- 87mallikab (10/5): Maxwell Reserve - a review - Maxwell has truly become a home away from home for me. I’m in Singapore almost every month for work, and ever since I made the switch to this hotel, I haven’t looked back. Before I’ve even stepped out of the car, I’m greeted with “Welcome back, Ms. Mallika” — Randy never misses to greet me. Simar is always there with a warm smile, ready to help with my bags, and that level of consistency carries through the entire team. The service is thoughtful, personal, and genuinely warm — something that’s rare to find at this level, consistently. On top of that, the food is incredible. The room service menu is a favourite (try their Fussili pasta), breakfast never disappoints, and overall, every stay just feels easy. If you’re heading to Singapore, I couldn’t recommend it more. And if you do make your way over there, please say hi to Randy for me.

The hotel said that was offered for the next level of room but I couldn't find that exception on this site

Location was amazing - very close to chinatown and the surrounding areas was really great too. Would definitely stay here again and for longer next time. We also got a free upgrade to a king size room, which was an amazing bonus! Room was tiny - only thing I can think of.

- Jacqueline (9/5): Heart of Chinatown in hotel with style and character - Fantastic location in Chinatown and a very characterful hotel. Major building work next door which meant our room window was screened off but this was not a problem and meant any noise disruption was very limited. Our booking included both an excellent breakfast and access to the lounge with complimentary drinks and appetisers. The availability (and relaxed style) of this turned this into a great value stay. Room aircon was very effective but not chilly or noisy. Daily room cleaning was late afternoon by which time we had generally returned to our room and so this was not convenient.

It is very well organised and interesting. The staff are wonderful. Friendly, helpful and attentive. Randy greeted us by name as we came and went and it was a very personalized and friendly atmosphere everywhere in the hotel. The room was small but beautiful and the bed was comfortable. The Shikar Restaurant was set up like a library and was tastefully decorated. We really enjoyed our stay and the personal approach made it something special.

- Susan (9/5): Historic hotel steeped in service and tradition. - This is an amazing hotel. They are strict about the 3pm check in time, but when I showed up just after 9am, I was able to not only leave my luggage, but also have a shower and go in the pool and chill a bit. Then when I returned to the hotel at 3, the luggage was already in my room for me. My package included the executive lounge, which gives you free drinks and snacks in the afternoon, plus free cocktails and nibbles in the evening. Amazing. Breakfast is first class from a menu, made to order. Gluten free options are very good, with Cultivate GF Vegan restaurant on site. If they didn't have gluten free, then they made things for me. The staff are very friendly and attentive, okay maybe some more than others, but I really appreciated them knowing my name and greeting me. The female staff are generally more reserved. I really enjoyed my stay, and it is the first hotel where I have been sorry to leave at the end of my stay. My bedroom was a single and was a bit on the narrow side and lacked a lot of storage for clothes. It did have an amazing mini bar in the wardrobe though. The bed was comfy and I slept well. For a longer stay, more storage would have been welcome.

- -MyLifeOfTravel- (4/5): Needs Improvement - We stayed three nights for holiday and arrived very late from a long flight. We were "upgraded" to a room with small balcony - unfortunately the balcony was unusable since it was less than 6" from a steel wall for the construction project next door. The room was tiny!! There was no place to open a small carryon suitcase except in front of the door. Room was clean, but very uncomfortable due to the size. The club lounge was a section of the main dining room. Service was spotty - one day fantastic - quick and friendly, the next day it took 20 minutes to get a menu and then the staff were arguing over orders and table service.

- phangj (8/5): Great location and classic charm, but breakfast needs work - I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The room is well-maintained and feature a lovely classic style of decoration that adds a lot of charm. Cleanliness is clearly a priority here, as the space was spotless. The service was decent as the staff were polite and handled requests efficiently. However, it is worth noting that my room faced the pool. While it was quiet in terms of other guests, the views were quite limited. Additionally, there is a construction site next to the hotel. The true highlight is the location, which is absolutely unbeatable. It is so convenient having easy access to the train stations, and there are plenty of eateries nearby. My only other criticism would be the breakfast. While it was continental, the options were quite limited. This is definitely an area that could be enhanced. Overall, a solid choice if location comfort is your top priority.

He took the time to give us a tour of the hotel and shared the stories behind the items inside the building. It was fascinating to learn that everything had a deeper meaning, and his effort really made the experience more memorable. The room was extremely small, making it very difficult to even fit luggage inside. There was no proper space to store bags, which made the stay quite uncomfortable. Considering the amount I paid, I don’t feel it offered good value for money at all. Our TV wasn’t working, so we contacted reception and a staff member was sent to assist. However, upon arrival, there was a noticeable smell of alcohol on his breath, which made us uncomfortable, so we chose not to proceed with the assistance. Additionally, there were multiple occasions where staff knocked only once and then used a master key to enter the room. Fortunately, we had the chain lock in place. This was extremely concerning, as it did not feel like our privacy was being properly respected.

The hotel overall was quite dark inside and it was unfortunate as there were many documents on display in the corridors but the lighting was so dim we could not read them. Our room was very small and dark due to the shutters outside to protect the building from the he construction site right next door.

- Chris (4/5): Tiny, tiny rooms spoilt the stay. - The bar, restaurant and lobby look great - just what we wanted. The location is also superb- near Maxwell MRT and food court. We had a loft room away from the construction so that didn’t bother us at all. It’s the size of the room that’s the problem. If you have any luggage whatsoever you’ll struggle. There is a double wardrobe but one side is the minibar (£70 1/2 bottle of gin anyone??) and the other side is the safe, robes and ironing board. Which just leaves the one shelf which you end up using to store the pointless ornamental cushions as there’s no space on the floor as there is no floor.

They immediately moved us to another room on the first floor which was much better.

The building work is just feet away from the hotel, work starts at 8:00 am and is noisy. The room window was feet away from a concrete wall and very dark. The room was tiny and had no storage space and nowhere to sit. The breakfast was miserly and poor quality with only one option from a selection. Eg 1 bacon or 1 sausage etc. The first day we had to wander around to get someone to serve us. The toast looked and tasted like stale white bread. The restaurant staff were disorganised and unhelpful and the service was very slow.

First room we were given had a hugh mini bar, no shelves or drawers. Luggage rack to small to hold even a carry on. Was given a different room on street level that had draws and shelves. Curtains had to kept shut. Room need higher wattage light bulbs.

Hotel is short walks to several subway stations and lines. Room was clean and fun decor with a full bar in the closet. I was welcomed on arrival and room available early. Really good breakfast, and vegan restaurant on site (plus a steak house if that's your thing). Swimming pool is great for lap swimming, not for hanging out, and nice gym.

- Edwin Brent (9/5): Great stay - relaxing, extremely comfortable, excellent location - Extremely comfortable, luxe hotel with a fascinating collection of historical artefacts. The room was beautifully appointed, and certainly large enough for a solo traveler or couple. The staff were all attentive, lovely and helpful - even remembering my name. Fabulous location to start exploring Chinatown, the Maxwell Food Centre and some of the great nearby upscale dining experiences and close to several transport options to get even further around the city. Not being a club member, breakfast was an add-on and the ordering process just a tad confusing. I'm not quite sure about the selection of local photographs in my room's toilet - seemed like I was being judged by some random instagram celebrity lol
- Gail (9/5): Great interior, thourouhly enjoyed the executive club, a little gem of a hotel hidden in a great location! A - Excellent location. The interior design is exceptional and well thought out. The story and items on display gave added charm like no where else has in Singapore.We loved the executive lounge and the ambiance of sitting in a library, the club menu was great value for money. Opportunities for consideration, the hanging space was extremely limited and I was unable to hang dresses in the wardrobe due to the length of the rail and ironing board etc. A couple of wall hooks would easily rectify the issue. The pillar in the middle of the room and the location of the bed made it extremely difficult to get in and out of bed. Some creamer in the room would be nice to have with the tea and coffee supplies. The carpet in the downstairs room corridor is a trip hazard as it is worn and protrudes upwards.

- DannyEu (10/5): Decent stay - Three years in a row I come back to this hotel and it is still as good as it was, despite the construction beside the hotel is still going on. As a Platinum Elite member I was upgraded to Salon Suite (201) it is facing the front road and the side window is facing the construction side. You can hear the noise, despite lessen, it can still be annoying in the morning. The construction stopped at 10pm and started as early as 8am if I’m not mistaken. So it is not for light sleeper. Other than the noise, other things are perfect. I always choose this hotel because the location is good, staffs are kind and attentive. Breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktail at executive lounge are the bonuses of the stay and the reason why I keep going back. The small gym is good enough for a quick workout, needless to say the pool is insta-worthy.

The rooms are oppressively small and impractically arranged. There is virtually no space to unpack, even if you are traveling with nothing more than a modest backpack. Room 207, in particular, is positioned directly beside the elevator shaft; every ascent or descent sends a tremor through the bed frame. While the hotel boasts multiple lifts, other guests have reported additional disturbances — a cursory glance at recent reviews will confirm this pattern. The view from the window is equally dispiriting: exposed pipes and flaking walls replace any notion of comfort or aesthetic consideration. The rooftop pool resembles a university dormitory facility — wholly out of character with the hotel’s branding and hardly conducive to relaxation. Immediately adjacent to the property, an extensive construction site operates at full scale. Heavy machinery runs incessantly; the building vibrates; fine dust permeates the air. The project is scheduled to continue until 2028, making any expectation of tranquility unrealistic for the foreseeable future. Guest amenities are of strikingly poor quality. The bottled water induced nausea. The slippers are made of abrasive plastic that bites into the skin. The toiletries are sticky and unpleasant, and even the toothpaste tastes aggressively synthetic. A persistent, offensive odor emanates from the toilet. The furniture is fabricated from low-grade particle board rather than solid wood, further underscoring the disparity between presentation and reality. As for the dining experience: portions are calculatedly meager, ensuring no guest leaves satisfied. Considering the food is excessively greasy and devoid of flavor, the miniature servings may be a small mercy. In any case, one should not expect a nourishing or substantial breakfast. In summary, the hotel’s aesthetic promises far more than it delivers.

- GlobaltravellerG (8/5): Good location - The hotel is well located across the road from the Maxwell Food Centre with reasonably priced (and pretty good) hawker food. There are also lots of small upmarket restaurants and bars in the area, albeit charging much higher prices. The rest of China Town, including the beautiful Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, is an easy walk. Construction work next door is set to go on for quite a while yet. This means that some rooms will have obstructed views. During our short stay we found out that some of the upper rooms don’t have windows anyway and use lighting from a skylight so it pays to understand what room you are committing yourself to. Breakfast at Cultivate was delicious and fresh but, again, it pays to understand what you are ordering. My fruit bowl, eggs and bacon were excellent but my wife’s pancakes were the size of pikelets and another of her berry dishes only had a few berries. Overall we enjoyed the stay. The staff were excellent and everything felt clean. Would I stay there again? Perhaps … this is a nice little hotel … but there are other similarly priced hotels in the area that we would want to check out first.
- Louise (8/5): A very comfortable stay - Excellent location in a beautiful building. The staff were always incredibly welcoming and attentive and we enjoyed a delicious breakfast daily. Very comfortable , I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again! The tiniest detail, but I think it would be beneficial to have an extra fork for breakfast as often the starters and main course would arrive at the same time; due to not wanting the hot food to go cold, the fruit / pasties would be left until the end but by which point, the fork may be dirty with egg etc. Adding milk / creamers to the room to enjoy with tea and coffee would also be beneficial.

- kanakak2024 (8/5): Beautiful hotel with great vibes - The lobby felt more luxurious than it looked in photos, and I felt reassured as soon as I entered. I booked a Le Colonial Queen room for one night and two days and added the club lounge access benefit. Compared to the price, this hotel offered very good value within Singapore. For example, the complimentary cocktails included with the club lounge access came in three varieties, which was especially appreciated given how expensive alcohol is in this country. Breakfast offered a wide selection, allowing guests to freely choose from dishes representing various cultures. Everything was delicious, and the relaxed atmosphere of the lounge made it even more enjoyable. The room itself was on the smaller side, but the air conditioning was easy to adjust, and the soft, dim lighting created a calming environment. Personally, I found it very relaxing and to my taste.
- Ewen (6/5): Not the best... - A beautifully appointed historic building with interesting artifacts and history on display. One side of the property is badly affected by the huge construction site bang up against it which was not mentioned on Booking.com and has been clearly been going on for some time. This resulted in the curtains being closed 24/7 in the main restaurant which was not pleasant and absolutely no daylight in the rooms facing it. The Club Room is a sectioned area of the restaurant with a rather disappointing afternoon menu and chaotic service.

- John (9/5): An interesting hotel in a great location. - Great location close to Chinatown, MRT station and Maxwell Road Hawker center. Friendly staff and a number of good food options in the hotel and within easy reach. Hotel decor was excellent and we appreciated the historical themes. In room Nespresso. Room was small and has the potential to feel cramped especially for longer stays. Little in room storage. Adjacent noisy building works although this will eventually cease.

We would definitely visit Singapore again. - The hotel is unique and ideally placed for visiting China Town and the Botanical Gardens. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Unfortunately during our three night stay, two of those nights were marred by very loud music coming from a rooftop bar opposite the hotel which continued until 2:30am. Currently there is some building work adjacent to the hotel 8:00am - 10:00pm, Monday - Saturday.

Ten minutes to Chinatown. Breakfast was included and was fabulous. Coffee was the best. Our room although a little small was lovely and the bed was so comfortable. A great and memorable stay.
- Escape59279302035 (2/5): Worst experience, completely missold - Disappointing stay due to lack of transparency and poor service. The room’s windows were completely blocked by construction, making it effectively windowless — something that was never disclosed prior to booking. Executive Lounge service was rude and unwelcoming. As a result, we checked out just two hours after check-in and did not stay the two nights booked. Not acceptable for a property of this standard or price.

- Irinirania (6/5): Mixed feelings! - We stayed at the hotel only for two nights during our short visit of Singapore on the 17th and 18th of January. We were dropped off by the transfer only to realize that the hotel was located right next to a huge construction site, something that we were not informed of. A very quick check-in procedure and we took the luggage by ourselves to the room. The room was lacking space, the window was blocked by the safety panels separating it from the construction nextdoor and the dazzling detail was that the sink was placed inside the bedroom right next to the wardrobe as the bathroom was quite small itself. We later realized that half the room area used to be a balcony which was closed at some point forming the room we were allocated. We called the reception asking about options only to be told that our next option would be the same room type on the 4th floor which we would have to reach through the stairs as no elevator was available for that floor. Not very pleased whilst we wouldn't allow anything spoil our time. On the positive side, it would only be fair to say that the hotel is conveniently located in the city, very close to the China town and the Marina Bay area and that paid us off. Moreover we also feel we should mention the warm hospitality of the tall guy welcoming us at the door ( sorry we cannot remember his name). All in all even though we enjoyed the city of Singapore, the experience of the hotel left us with mixed feelings.

Imødekommende personale og god beliggenhed lige op ad China Town og et lokalt Streetfood marked og undergrundsstation lige bag ved. Den inkluderede Afternoon Tea var en god oplevelse, hvor vi lige kunne samles og slappe af sidst på dagen. Drinks med tilhørende små retter nåede vi desværre kun en gang, med det var lækkert.

- DALE (8/5): Lovely Colonial Styled Boutique Hotel in Chinatown - the hotel is a wonderful boutique hotel in the heart of chinatown. it is tastefully decorated with a theme and story to each and every tidbit in hotel. old school colonial style. Room 103 was not acceptable for the experience we were seeking. The room is positioned at the end of the coridor to which the staff use to enter and exit the hotel. loud and the constant shutting of doors, detracted from the experience we received. i've never stay in the room again, let alone ajoining rooms 101 or 102, as it would be the same.

- 15rufust (4/5): Great location ruined by major construction next door - I would like to start with the positives. The hotel’s location is excellent for exploring Tanjong Pagar and Chinatown, two areas packed with interesting restaurants, bars, and street life. Many of the staff are also kind and helpful, particularly the housekeeping team. Unfortunately, despite these strengths, I cannot recommend this hotel. A major construction site, that looks to be ongoing for years, faces an entire side of the building, including many guest rooms and all the suites. The noise is irritating and starts early in the morning, making proper rest difficult. The hotel is clearly aware of the problem, as they have installed a three story high temporary green wall in front of the affected rooms. This blocks nearly all natural light and still does not eliminate the construction noise. I raised this issue with the front desk, but I was told that changing rooms would not be possible and that nothing could be done about the noise. While the latter may be true, it does not change the fact that the experience was significantly compromised. Singapore has many excellent hotel options, and unfortunately this property, in its current condition, is not one of them. I would strongly suggest choosing somewhere else.

It was our first time to Singapore and the location was the best. - The offer from the Maxwell for breakfast, afternoon snack and evening were excellent. The staff was pleasant and very nice. Very helpful and accommodating with the requests we had. The room lacks storage, there was no butler valet to put the suitcases on which they ended up residing on the floor during our stay. The pool area seems to be an after thought. I would have thought that more could have been done for that area.

Location was also very good right next to Chinatown and two minutes from an underground station ( Maxwell). Underground very easy and cheap to use to get around with very helpful staff. Wardrobe space was limited
