Felt very safe and the staff were lovely, got up at 6am to make us breakfast before our safari. Room was comfortable and shower hot and great pressure

• petrus erasmus (PJ) (5/5): The stay was comfortable but why are there no milk for coffee/tea in the rooms? - The bed was comfortable. I had to wait outside in the rain and dark trying to get into the place/pressing the button. Even though I made an online booking earlier that day, there was no staff to open for me. Standing outside, sopping wet in the dark was not a pleasant experience.

• Emily (10/5): Definitely would stay again! - We loved our stay at Melville Turret Guesthouse!! We stayed in the huge loft on the second floor and the bed was so comfy I didn’t ever want to leave. The room was huge and it was nice to have a fridge and microwave. it was walking distance to plenty of bars and restaurants and the neighborhood is very cute and quiet. But the best part of the stay was Koos! We asked him for advice on roadtripping around South Africa and he was full of good info and helped make the rest of our trip unforgettable! Nothing!

The site seemed well secured and there was a guard as well. Room was very quiet. Staff is very friendly and helpful. It has the right number of rooms to be personal but also not too small It was all good.

• Neels (7/5): - Staff excellent and very friendly. Enjoyed a healthy breakfast with good coffee, real fruit juices and fresh yogurt. Parking is a problem. Bathroom need some maintenance - no bath plug. Complementary ground coffee, only two cups, while we stay for three days. No dishcloth and no dish soap. This unit is a risk at night time, going to the bathroom with all the steps in the room.

• Pascal (8/5): Bon plan à Melville - Belle villa dans le quartier tranquille de Melville. On peut s'y promener à pieds à toute heure, restaurants et cafés branchés à 5 mn. En 10-15 mn de taxi on rejoint facilement le centre ou rosebank. La gérante est très gentille. Le petit déjeuner est basique mais bon. Les chambres sont un peu vieillottes mais confortables et propres. Et il y a du chauffage pour les nuits fraîches. Globalement un très bon rapport qualité prix. La chambre familiale est en fait un cuisine-chambre, donc les enfants dorment dans la cuisine salle a manger.
• Michiel (7/5): Charming place in nice area - Location is perfect: nice area, building with character. Charming accomodation with sufficient rooms. Beds were nice. Hostess was adorable and very helpful. Bath/shower drain could not handle the water, so showering while standing in your own water: hate that. Also breakfast was very poor (we booked it because of the positive reviews on Booking!): watery coffee, limited filling, cheap orange juice and bread. There is a very good bakery just two blocks away! Please get your bread there, buy some nice cheese and jams and people will come back for your breakfast alone! (also if you double the price).

We have stayed here many times, as it is close to the hospital. Walkable area, close to restaurants and shopping. There was nothing not to like. The property is aging well, but will need some TLC in the near future.

Suggestions for improvement : The garden light outside the bedrooms could be dimmed somewhat as it shines brightly into the rooms at night. Suggest switching to a 40W globe.

Our loft room was very comfortable with a great bath and plenty of space. Prisca was very welcoming and helpful. It’s a safe two block walk to bars and restaurants in Melville. Highly recommended!

Prisca, the manager is such a lovely and caring lady who takes care of the guests with utmost attention. She is the sunshine of place. The room we had is in need of some repairs, mainly the door and the shower. Door wouldn't close correctly unless you lock it with the keys.

• Kathy (9/5): Wonderful, what a true GEM of a place to stay while in Johannesburg - I liked everything - it was in a very good area, and there was even a security guard at the street corner near their complex - I felt totally safe and I walked all over the Melville and Parkview areas without feeling threatened. The lodge itself was so wonderful, cute design and a nice area for sitting outside if you wished. The room was so clean and a very nice bed and I had the room with the full bath, what a treat that was for me. I loved this place so much that I stayed there twice during my time in South Africa as I had to come to Johannesburg 3x, the last time I landed back in JoBurg late and had an early am departure so I stayed near the airport, just made it simpler or I'd have stayed there. ALSO - The staff were incredible, Top Notch all the way, they were warm and welcoming and attended to so many guests needs, you felt like you were with family, I'd recommend this place to anyone, it is easy to get to and there are tons of shops, pubs and restaurants just a 5-7 minute away (a safe walk too). :) There was nothing I did not like, they were accommodating in every sense and were wonderful

Owner Brilliant as always, knew what we needed before we even knew. Bathroom spotless and all needed was supplied. Hot water in the blink of an eye. As always a perfect stay. Major Thank you for everything Can't name any as there is nothing to complain about
• Katarzyna (10/5): Exceptional - This is a beautiful guesthouse in a quiet and safe neighbourhood with a lovely lady managing it. The loft room is fantastic, with big bathtube, TV with Netflix and Youtube, super comfy bed and well-equipped kitchen annex - a real gem. The area is very well protected, we walked there at night and it felt very safe, it's close to nice restaurants and a bit further but still perfectly walkable to the big supermarket and liquor store. The venue has a very pretty garden with pleasant seating options. We had some time before our flight and the managing lady let us leave our luggage to walk around and then stay in the garden as long as we needed which was very nice. The breakfast was very good, they could accommodate to our vegetarian requests:) All in all, we are sorry we didn't have more time to stay there for longer and if again in Joburg I think we'll choose this place again:) all perfect:)

The owner or lady in charge and staff were very kind and accommodating. The TV has a Netflix subscription which meant I could view my shows. I was highly impressed. Truly value for money.
