- Michelle (4/5): Property Shut Down - The property was shut down during my stay. No response from the property management about a refund for the last night. Prior to the shutdown, my review still would not have been very complimentary. I stayed here before several years ago and while it was definitely dated then, it was clean and convenient. This time it was still very dated but in need of repairs. There was water leaking under the wall in the bathroom. The chain for the pull shade in the bedroom came off in my hand. The thermostat was broken. And no hot water on my final morning there. It’s unfortunate because the property has potential but clearly has not been well run and just fallen into further disrepair. And, shutdown for alleged non payment of sales taxes.
- Charles (10/5): - The hotel close enough to walk to many things from Broadway, Time Square, and Central Park. And just a bit of a longer walk to the NY Public Library and St. Patrick's Cathedral. The room was large and spacious. All in all, would stay here again.
- Gabriel (8/5): 8th floor or 1st - I usually stay in New York City on one night business trips. All I'm looking for is a clean, quiet, and safe place to sleep. Unfortunately, this hotel only hit two out of three. I was in a room on the 8th floor but it sounded like I was on the ground floor. I could hear all of the traffic noise all night long. The windows were also extremely drafty, which I believe contributed to the excessive noise in the room.

- Naomi (2/5): Terrible hotel - Terrible hotel. When we arrived to check in the room was fully paid for, but they required a credit card for incidentals. however, their credit card system was down and not accepting American Express or Apple Pay, which were the only two payment options we had. They clearly state that they accept American Express but they told us they cannot accept either one of the payment options we had. They would not let us check in unless we went and got a prepaid Visa card. This is truly unacceptable service when it is the hotels problem that their payment system was not working. They also could not accept any cash. The manager was not on duty and could only be reached by email. They basically held us hostage in the lobby for over an hour. once we finally were able to check in the hotel is really very old and a dump. The room was spacious enough and appeared clean however the shower handle broke off and only one towel was provided for a room that can sleep four adults. Teeny tiny soap and shampoo were provided. The mirror in the bathroom was cracked, as if someone had thrown a rock at it and it had some tape all over it.

I couldn’t call to front desk because phones in room doesn’t work and when I tried to call from my phone said number provided in room for front desk was disconnected. Old building, but ok condition. Great location. Biggest complaint by far was noise and I was on the 14th floor. Heard every car, siren, machine, bird chirping, butterfly wing flap etc!

- brittley938 (8/5): Has so much potential - I gave this 4 and I feel that’s being a bit generous but this hotel doesn’t deserve the lower rating it does have. We booked the Blakely off a recommendation from a friend even though the reviews seemed off putting. We stayed for 5 nights. When we checked in the room wasn’t quite ready but the bellhop was super kind and insisted we leave our bags and go explore. This gentleman was the best employee we dealt with! The room is dated but has so much charm and character for an old style NY hotel. It could definitely use some new mattresses and maybe reupholster some of the furniture though. It also needs more insulation or more solid doors as we could hear everyone in the room over at all hours. This isn’t entirely the hotels fault, being considerate of other guests during a stay also goes along way. The windows definitely need upgrading as there is zero sound dampening from them. None of these things are deal breakers though. Our only real complaint is 2 mornings we woke up to no hot water. This is a complaint I’d seen in past reviews as well. Not having hot water is just not acceptable and the hotel needs to make this a priority to do whatever possible to fix this ongoing issue. And the girl at the front desk surely knows this as an issue didn’t need to be rude and ask ‘did you let the water run?’ Like that wasn’t already obvious. All that to say next time we book for NY I will check recent reviews for this hotel and if it seems they’d made positive changes we’d happily book again.

Other than the location which turned out to be not so good. The hotel turned out to be worst that I eva could've expected. I can not recommend a stay at the Blakely. I have stayed at other older hotels but they were at least clean and had been basically maintained. We had multiple issues with everything from cosmetic to Mechanical problems. Toilet wouldn't flush , tub/ shower had holes, floor and shower tiles were broken . Ceiling had holes from water stains with mold and sheetrock damage. Wall paper was falling down Exterior windows wouldn't close and had gaps , rain water leaked into room. TV only had 5 channels. List goes on with too much to list. Obviously the owners does not care about reviews or services. Extreme disappointment. Bookers beware.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Fine NYC hotel - The hotel was conveniently located. It is has nice character. I was able to check in quickly. My room was very nicely sized for a NYC hotel. While parts of the hotel are a little drabby, it has character. My only complaint was that there was a parking garage on the street level and all through the night the garage door alarm would go off when it opened, which woke me up repeatedly. I did not sleep well.

We were looking for a place to rest after fitting in many city adventures to our days. The water pressure in the shower was AMAZING. The room was clean and the staff were friendly and attentive!

- clintonw2025 (2/5): Don't stay here! - My family stayed there in Dec'24 and wish we booked somewhere else. Yes the location is good, but does not make up for the room and service which were some of the worst I have ever seen in our global travels. I emailed the below points to the manager while there and in summary the response I received was that I got a good price for the area and these complaints are rare (maybe they should read the reviews online what a joke). This is the list in the first 2nights I emailed: 1. When we arrived there were only 2 bath towels, 1 glass and 1 coffee mug and 1 toilet roll for 4 of us. 2. We had no hot water at 9:30pm after returning from a show in the winter cold and that is hard with children as could not shower. Had to just go to bed. (This actually happened for two nights). 3. Second day there and after arriving back after a day out, the cleaner had taken all the 4 used towels we put on the floor for replacing and left us just one of the dirty towels they hung up again on the bath rail. Not okay. We don’t expect perfectly made beds, part of the bedding was even tucked in and hanging out. 3. Beside the room being very dated which we can accept, here are all the room issues: -Shower was dirty with peeling silicone all over the shower walls/floor. (someone siliconed over the tile grout and thought that was a fix at some point). -Shower tap handle kept falling off. -Shower door seal hanging and broken. -Toilet wouldn't stop making a noise, constant flush sound. -Microwave was faulty and had to be replaced. -Bedside lamp switch was broken so couldn't use it. The reception staff just looked at me and didn't even apologise once for anything. Trust me when I say book somewhere else and even pay more if you need to. Worst hotel experience ever for my family.

They could also use more staffing because we called so many times before we arrived and never got an answer, even while we stayed and called from the room we got no answer. Room was very roomy for our family of 5 we also have a mini kitchen and big bathroom which was great but AC didn’t work and we didn’t feel like going downstairs again to call someone. If they just renovate a little and invest in upgrading everything this would be the ideal place to stay.

The only problems were they seriously need to sound proof the windows. They should also update the accommodations. Shabby Sheik is cool but not when it is torn or broken. The curtains were torn with holes in them as well as my towels. The staff was great and I would go back.
- Sharon (6/5): - I read horror reviews so was really worried about what we would find. Firstly, location is fantastic. Size of the room is great. Yes, it is dated but that's not a deal breaker for me. There were some things that definitely let the experience down. We had 1 towel in our room for 4 people. I asked for more towels which were sent up. But the next day those 4 towels were taken and replaced with... 1 towel. So from then on I tried to catch the housekeepers cart to grab the towels myself. Such a silly thing for them to repeatedly get wrong. Also insufficient toiletries and crockery for 4 people. Showers were great first few days.but after that barely warm. The quilts on the beds did not have quilt covers - just the bare quilt with a sheet underneath. Staff were friendly with each interaction and happy to assist with baggage on our day of checkout for $2 a bag. It was safe and clean with a great location. Shame those other things brought down the experience.

Of the six mornings I was there, there was no hot water for three of the mornings — that’s 50% of the mornings that I was there. I actually had to go to a salon for a wash and blow dry, a rather pricey alternative to having running hot water in my room. November 17 was the worst, as hot water was not restored until the afternoon.

- Verified traveler (6/5): - This was a 4 night stay....The rooms were a good size considering the location. We even had room for an additional twin size air mattress. We booked the room for 4 people but we never received more than 3 washcloths after repeatedly asking for them. They brought us additional linens while we were out which included an ample supply of hand towels which we ended up having to use as washcloths. We ran out of toilet paper by the last day of our stay because they never replaced the empty roll. Price was good for the location compared to nearby hotels considering the time for our stay...but don't have too high of expectations.

- Steven (4/5): - The property is nicely located near Central Park, many restaurants, subway etc but the hotel is listed as a 4 star on Expedia and it is far from a 4. I would maybe give it a 2 or 2.5 at most. The elevator is extremely small so if you don’t like small spaces and don’t want to walk 20 flights of stairs this is not the hotel for you. The rooms are small but I’m kind of expected in NYC. We did find hair in the shower/tub, door latch was broken off, some shoved an ear plug into the peep hole so people couldn’t look in, the walls are paper thin… but a least there was AC because the hallways and lobby were super hot. Will not be staying here in the future.

- Kirsten (4/5): This poor hotel is literally falling apart - Front desk couldn't check us in at 5 pm because of broken ACs and water leaks in their available rooms, needed an hour or so to find a room for us. Everywhere you looked was peeling wallpaper, scuffed furniture, broken fixtures. Nothing in this hotel has been repaired or replaced in decades. Toiletries and towels were bare-minimum and staffing was skeletal, even on a weekend. The front desk didn't even have toothpaste. At least it was clean, and the AC and plumbing worked. But don't expect anything more than a bed and a bathroom in a convenient midtown location.

- John (4/5): Stay away from 203 - Check in was smooth, we were early and they allowed us to store our bags while we went out. When we returned they told us the room we paid for was unavailable, and gave us rm 203 for the night. The AC was broken and pumped warm air. We told the desk and they told us twice that theyd send some one to look at it, and no one ever showed up. We also had to call for extra pillows and towels, and were told that there was a towel shortage... We finally were given some fans from the lobby to make the night slightly bearable. Next morning we asked again about the AC or to change rooms. At approx 2pm we were told that they could accomodate and we needed to move our stuff asap. New room had AC, however it leaked all over the floor, and the carpet was a pond.. We didnt complain this time, just happy to sleep comfortably. Rooms were large, with a kitchenette area.
- Brooke (8/5): It’s good - The Blakely is a super nice hotel with nice people who work there. We asked to check in a little early due to our earlier arrival than planned and they were so accommodating. However, the blankets are not comfortable and the air conditioner leaked until the carpet was soaked completely on one side of the bed. After one cleaning, they never gave us any towels and we had to go ask for them. They didn’t seem to understand we needed enough towels for a family of 4 and we ended up sharing the entire trip. The atmosphere is cute though and the people are nice so I would probably choose the Blakely again due to that and location.

Also are amenities like fridge, freezer, microwave, glassware, plates and microwave (and the wine opener) all present in it's new incarnation. We miss the wine glasses and the restaurant.. All in all, happy to see this property being revived.
- sharif (2/5): AVOID THIS PLACE - SHADY AND BROKE DOWN - Hotels.com and I tried several times to reach the property prior to my stay to request a rollaway bed, no reply to several attempts by both. Air conditioning Broken throughout hotel. Several (probably every) Guests complained of broken A/C throughout the building - In hottest week of a sweltering Summer in NY! Several guests also heard complaining about things being stolen from their room. Something went missing from our room. Phones in room to front desk all broken - you have to go out in the sweltering hotel to ask for anything. Towels all mismatched and cheap and scratchy. If I could give less than 0 out of 10 stars I would. Worst. Week. EVER!!!!
- Emily (6/5): - Overall this hotel was a decent for a vacation on a budget. The fridge and microwave were a huge bonus for heating up breakfasts in the morning. However, we ended up in 3 different rooms over the course of 5 days due to the AC freezing up. When the AC was at its best, the rooms were still not cooler than 75 degrees. The staff was very accommodating and more than happy to switch our rooms. The water filter system only fills a 20 oz bottle before it runs out so we bought gallons of water from a nearby market. The location is amazing as it is right near the subway entrance. Overall, I would have paid more money to stay elsewhere (had I known what I know now) but it didn’t ruin our vacation by any means.

There are no USB ports, very few outlets, only one night stand on one side of a king bed, odd light switch placement so we had to get out of bed in order to turn off lights instead of just turning off a nightstand lamp. No kleenex, lotion or hair conditioner, only body wash and shampoo. No one answered the phone for the front desk in the evenings so when we discovered the first room we'd been given had a running toilet we had to go down to the lobby to get our room changed.
