Guest Reviews
- anthonyaS5562YG (10/5): Highly Recommend to travelers - I am frequent travelers and I made it sure that I will be staying if I am in Los Angeles area especially in ktown. The hotel location is in the middle of ktown, close to all restuarants, grocery and few minutes away by metro train to DTLA. Located in the safest area in LA and the property itself has security by itself that you cannot by pass. Room and wide and clean, the front desk every time I check in area nice people. I will highly recommend to all travelers if they come to LA, try considering Shelter Hotel for your unique experience.
- Todd (2/5): - BEWARE! These are non-refundable rooms for a reason. Once you walk into the lobby, you'll want your money back. The rooms are even worse. I stayed here 15 years ago and it was a fun, hip, boutique hotel in Koreatown. The pictures on the listing looked like what I remembered. But when we arrived to check-in, the place was a disaster. Plastic sheeting and construction everywhere, everything in sight was broken or worn, and the place smelled of mildew or water damage. Our room had furniture that looked like an animal had clawed at it. My fiancé made the mistake of touching the bathroom door frame and put her hand in mystery goo. We felt uncomfortable and unsafe and told the desk we were leaving. They couldn't have cared less. They almost took pride in the fact that there would be no refund. They also refused to grant any money back when Expedia intervened. Horrible experience all around.
- Odalys (10/5): - Not bad for what it was
- Gonzalo (10/5): Great service! - Great hotel for our business trip. The reception staff in the mornings were very friendly throughout our stay and very helpful with whatever we needed.
- Terrance (10/5): - The staff is really nice and friendly. Super helpful.
- Andrew (6/5): - This is hard to share as I've been staying at this hotel since 2013. The time has come to renovate the rooms and freshen things up.
- madelynn (10/5): - Very nice
- Christine (10/5): - The staff was super friendly
- Laura (6/5): - Positives: Convenient location in Ktown, spacious rooms, well appointed bathroom, friendly, helpful, responsive staff
Negatives: Property needs to be better cleaned and maintained. Spots and stains on window shades and curtains, burned out light bulb, pool has lots of yucky stuff floating in it
- marc (2/5): - I am disabled and cannot move very well but they demanded I get out by 11. they were mean. and threw Mr out of the shower sand mty things. I want half rewfund
- Victor (6/5): - No real complaints about the property but nothing really stood out either. I’d stay there again.
- marc (2/5): - They knew I am disabled and treated me if I could use my left leg without severe pain. I had to mo ask for help rmmto get my barks upstair
They replied we don’t do that there is no staff after l4PM. I asked for a dolly limping along in pain. Then when the room was right next to elevator I had fire innmybeyes. How mean
- G (10/5): - Great experience and definitely would boon again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I only would choose this place for location. Otherwise, there are some rough edges I just couldn’t think it is okay. For example, the shower was half broken, not enough charging port, and cleanliness around the room.
- Neal (6/5): - It was alright
- Veronica (8/5): - It was clean and the staff what very nice, Luis was very nice also the young lady that was there was also very friendly. The older gentleman not so much, he was actually a bit short and rude. The room was clean and everything worked. I do Wish there was a microwave in the room it was a little inconvenient to run down to the lobby to warm up food. I would consider returning in the near future.
- Natalie (8/5): Would book again (maybe after lamp is replaced!) - My partner and I are overall very pleased with this hotel! Frankly we went in a little nervous based on some reviews we saw mentioning rude employees and bugs but we encountered neither. Staff was friendly and accommodating and the room was comfy and clean enough. The grout in the bathroom was maybe not 100% spotless and the window exterior was dirty but those things are minor and considering the fair price and great location we can’t complain. The hotel was easily walkable to food, drinks, and retail, but far enough so there wasn’t much street noise.
Our only complaint is that the bedside table lamp (just one table and lamp for a king size bed) made a concerning buzzing sound and would flicker on and off. We ended up just not using it. But in the grand scheme of things it didn’t put a damper on our stay and I’d absolutely consider booking here again.
- Martin (4/5): - The lobby and facilities were nice, and as far as being in K-Town goes you could do worse. However, the sheets on our bed were consistently dirty and stained. I believe clean sheets and a clean room, above all else, should be the bare minimum.
The the staff's credit when we asked for a change on the first day they did so quickly and added clean ones, but during our last night when they replaced them as part of their daily cleaning they were dirty again.
- Curiosity14997937289 (10/5): Great Location for Museum Visits - I stayed at Shelter because I saw it was rated highly for people traveling alone. I had an excellent stay there and will be recommending it to all my friends. My goal was to visit as many museums as possible during a 4 day stay.
From Shelter you can take the bus down Wilshire to:
LaBrea Tar Pits
LACMA
The Academy of Motion Pictures
Peterson Automotive (I did not get to this one but would visit next time!)
You can take the Metro to:
The Broad
MOCA (did not visit this one but next time!)
You are close to three fabulous breakfast spots:
Open Market, Egg Tuck and Donut King
The Hotel was so clean! And very quiet and I had the pool to myself in the afternoon.
Koreatown was a great choice - I felt safe and the staff was very nice! I also had two Uber drivers and one bartender who lived in K-Town so that tells me it is a good neighborhood.
- Stephen (10/5): Shelter - For the most part very nice. Short walk to Korean town. 1 block is a nice restaurant and grocery store. Rooms are big.
However, my view was into somebody's apartment with their balcony full of trash. No privacy curtains in room.
WARNING: There is a $20 fee added on each night for reason unclear. This is not a resort.
Probably would stay here again.
- Oscar (8/5): - This place is a comfortable place to stay and affordable as well. The downside is it’s in a sorta sketchy neighborhood (homeless people around). However there is taco places and a 711 within a couple blocks.
- Maps28004040597 (2/5): Bad business - I was surprised and disappointed by the $20/night “resort fee” and $30/night for parking. The daytime desk manager was helpful/courteous, but the night manager refused to let us into the garage because he “thought we weren’t paying” — insane behavior. The rooms are fine, nothing special, and if it weren’t for the hidden fees they’d be priced fairly. The neighborhood has better options at the cost I ultimately paid.
- Jeff (4/5): Be Flexible - If this hotel wants to keep its customers, it should be more flexible. Checkout time was 1130. I had an extenuating circumstance that maybe should have allowed me to stay in the room an hour longer during my stay, as many hotels will allow for. This hotel not only didn’t budge, but someone came up to my room at 1130 to kick me out of it.
Water in the shower was not 100% hot either. Choose someplace else to stay. LA has plenty of options.
- kathleen (10/5): - Love this little boutique hotel. Always clean & quiet. Staff friendly. Easy check in.
- Gonzalo (10/5): Great Hotel - Excellent, great attention and the room was just what we need it
- Daralynn (10/5): - Love this place
- Laura (10/5): - This hotel exceeded my expectations! From some previous reviews, I worried it might be a little run down or not that clean. I'm in my early sixties, so really didn't want to be anywhere funky. I was pleasantly surprised to find that both the rooms and the common areas are extremely clean and the staff is very available, friendly, and helpful. My room was large, sunny, and comfortable, with a good lay out. I don't love K-town but the block of the hotel is somewhat cleaner and calmer than most other parts of the neighborhood. The price is very fair for a hotel in a major coastal city. I will definitely return.
- Daralynn (8/5): - Very awesome hotel with cool decor only downside was the stomping above me
- Daniel (10/5): - Its great!!!
- Aaron (10/5): - Great room at a reasonable price in a great location.
- Maria (8/5): - It was a nice place convenient and clean. I was not happy with the fact that i had to pay extra for parking and they didnt have a iron or microwave.
- Jack (4/5): - Great room rate, but… water ran cold. Towels were small. Otherwise the room was comfortable.
- Ericka (10/5): - Stayed one night, check in was easy room was big and clean, easy parking I will come back
- Michael (10/5): - The lobby is uniquely decorated in a good way. The staff were friendly, the room was clean. Over all I'm very satisfied with my stay. My only real concern was there was no security bar to go across the door like most hotels for when you are in the room and don't want to depend on the door lock/dead bolt. This is cheap to buy and install. There is an ice machine and microwave around the corner from the check in desk. This should be explained to the quest when they check in as there is no microwave in the room. I didn't see a ice machine on the floor I stayed on. Not a big deal but I discovered the ice machine and microwave in the lobby area by walking around. These are suggestion not show stoppers. I recommend this hotel. It was nice they have there own parking under the hotel. Finding a parking spot is almost impossible in the area otherwise.
- venustiano (2/5): Don’t Stay here!!! - I thought I had found a great deal for stayed but I didn’t . I end up paying more with all these extras charges that they add on once you checked in and they overcharged for parking!!! I couldn’t stayed at better hotel . Never again!!
- Thomas (10/5): - It was safe and quiet.
- Kyungil (8/5): - goog
- Al (10/5): - What i loke about this hotel was that ot was very clean and thre staff very friendly. Would stay here again
- TemplateTravel (10/5): Great place to explore Koreatown from - Shelter Hotel is a decent hotel for exploring Koreatown here in LA. It isn't going to be a super luxury experience, but it is a clean and comfortable place to sleep in. You're just steps away from great Korean food and drinks, and other LA locations are just a rideshare or drive away.
- Kirby (10/5): - Delightful property in Koreatown. Clean and neat. Still have daily cleaning service. Parking garage on the property with gate. Very quiet. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful.
- Sae Hoon (10/5): - Good place
- Samantha (10/5): - Excellent customer service and care. Good price and affordable. Decorations are pretty, quiet, safe and clean hotel. Will definitely recommend.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Customer service was really great. Room was very clean, the shampoo, conditioner, and soap seemed to be fairly good quality. Definitely would stay here again.
- Marylene (10/5): - Staff was very friendly bed very comfortable
Just a bit expensive
- paulwK7290RS (4/5): Ok… not great - Newly painted, rooms clean. No amenities, no real lobby no late check outs and they knocked on my door (an hour before check out) with the do not disturb sign on to ask if I was checking out.
Shower plumbing didn’t switch the tub/shower so both on all times.
Neighborhood is not the best or worst, maybe don’t walk after dark.
Staff must have issues with some customers… they treated me like I was a bother more than a customer. I was hoping that this hotel would be a better experience but alas.
- Jerry (4/5): - Like: Room was nice and clean.
Dislikes: No body wash, shampoo or conditioner provided on 2nd day. No coffee or coffee cups also. Had to call front desk. $52 unexpected service charge. What service? No breakfast, free wine tasting as in the past. Desk clerk said it was for wi-fi. What?!! $90 parking fee!
- JENNIFER (10/5): - Clean, beautiful design, convenient location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Right in Koreatown - We have stayed at The Shelter Hotel a number of times when business brings us to the Koreatown area of Los Angeles. It is an older, eclectic building that has been well maintained. The rooms are all spacious and the furnishings funky and fun. Be aware that 4th floor rooms have a step up into the bathroom area. Parking is under the building an is convenient for a standard size vehicle otherwise it is street parking which might be difficult to find or far from the hotel. Internet has always been satisfactory. There is a resort and a parking fee.
- 69Pagoda (2/5): Christmas Redux - turned away @ the Inn - Imagine being turned away from renting a room when your RV just burned to the ground. With your wife and four-year-old, who had been up all night and just escaped a harrowing experience with their lives. With three small dogs in tow, after being told repeatedly on the phone it wouldn't be a problem- if you just paid hundreds of dollars more for the privilege. If this is what you're looking for in your motel, then look no farther - you've found your dream accommodations - or lack there of in this anti-shelter business.
At 3am the engine died as my family slept in our Ford E-450 converted bus. As I pulled to the shoulder first smoke, then flames began to lick out from under the hood. The RV was loaded up with belongings on the roof, bikes and motorcycles front and back, like a modern interpretation of a moment from a "Grapes Of Wrath" chapter.
The fire exploded out of control while I used up the only two fire extinguishers. I rushed back inside the RV to wake my family as fire began to lick front of the RV, closing off escape from the only doors. I kicked out a window at the back my wife then wiggled out through. My 4yr old was crying about losing all his Christmas presents more than the fire which now towered over the front of what had been our home as we moved to a new house in Mexico.
It took 3 hours for the fire to be extinguished. Ride hailing companies confirmed again and again someone would come and take us to Shelter, but never arrived. Finally CHP pushed a driver to show up. We were exhausted and traumatized but from repeated phone calls to the night clerk, we were reassured a bed, room was waiting and our dogs could join us. We were soon disappointed.
When we arrived, the Night Shift was long gone & the day crew could find no record of our reservation or needs. The night front desk manager was called at home, he confirmed our story, but the new manager was not impressed. Only if we paid over $500 for a single bedroom advertised for $140 could we stay the night. We had no choice, and reluctantly agreed.
But the manager then demanded to know where our car was? We reminded him it was in ashes being towed to an impound - REMEMBER? - that's why we were there.
Incredibly, he declared that without a car, it was a strict policy not to rent a room to people who were just dropped off & without a vehicle!!!!!
With a crying child, visibly shaken wife, we reluctantly went back on the road to find a real actual shelter hotel, with the few smoke tinged articles we had saved, hands darkened with soot fro fighting the emulation of all our possessions.
We took solace we weren't the first family turned away from an Inn at Christmas.
But our strong recommendation is to seek real shelter anyplace else.
- joel (8/5): Great place but Parking is too expensive. - Great place to stay. Close to restaurants. Onsite paid parking is way too expensive at $30 a night - almost a deal breaker.
- Yanitza (10/5): - Cute boutique hotel!
- Ron (10/5): - The decor of the property is colorful and bright, with cozy common areas to relax in. Room was very clean and the bed was the most comfy in several years of hotel stays, the location was only a couple the H-Mart, Metro, and dozens of Korean food gems, and almost as close to many Mexican places 3 blocks away on 3rd Street. I fly/drive in from San Francisco for K-Pop shows, and this is officially my Go-To place from now on.
- TravellerGal (6/5): LA Ladies Weekend @ The Shelter - We booked The Shelter Hotel as a home base for exploring LA. We were able to check in early around 12:30pm and were assigned a room the 2nd floor with a king bed and sofa.
Our room was a good size for two people but the air conditioner was loud! We also had a small bar fridge which was great for keeping drinks/water cold. Our shower was broken so the pressure was not great but there was plenty of hot water.
We didn't have a car so no need for parking. The hotel location was walkable to a few bus lines and subway stops so not too bad for access to transit.
The neighbourhood was very quiet and residential. Felt safe during the day and night. Walked out to get coffee in the morning (Blue Bottle and Spark very close to hotel) and checked out EMC Seafood for happy hour and drinks. Also a large H-Mart very close by for grabbing snacks and drinks. Don't bother walking to the Target on 6th Ave. The H-Mart is much bigger, cleaner and has better selection.
We did go to the pool area - the pool was on the smaller size but cool enough for a dip on a very hot day! You can get pool towels from the front desk.
The lobby and hallways had a very strong cleaning solution scent but the room was clean and comfortable.
The Shelter is not the most glamourous accommodations but it was fine for a few night's stay. We were barely in our room as we were out exploring the city.
- Gonzalo (10/5): Clean and safe - The hotel is in a good location, very safe and you can easily walk to restaurants, super markets and others. The room was very clean, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom clean and spacious.
- LJ (10/5): - I’ve been coming back to this hotel since 2018. This time, I stayed for 8 days. I LOVE this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cute! - Cute, boutique hotel! Room was really big and clean. Very trendy and in a quiet part of Ktown. Staff were friendly.
- Janine Genevive (10/5): - The place and staff were awesome. We only wish we had a shelf/cabinet in our room for our clothes, but overall we were happy and have enjoyed our time here. Area is safe and quiet and close to great Korean restaurants! We will definitely visit this hotel when we come back!
- Sydney (10/5): - Great location and staff
- Kathryn (10/5): - Easy place to stay for a night. Super clean and easy to find.
- Robjob18 (10/5): A great stay for the value! - For the value/price paid Shelter hotel EXCEEDED my expectation. The hotel has a cool, boutique vibe and is nicely updated. I loved how pet friendly they were and the amenities (the pool that guests don’t seem to use, the ping pong, etc). There isn’t breakfast or a bar area, but that was fine by me. The rooms are large, the space is clean, and the neighborhood is walkable. I was pleasantly surprised by this stay especially compared to other hotels in this price range. Highly recommended
*FYI I didn’t have a car, but parking is $30 day, there is a $20/night “amenity fee”, and pets are $40 for the stay (which is quite reasonable)
- Griffin (10/5): - property was great, but I didn't like the parking fee.
- Kenneth (8/5): - Perfect location for a foodie looking to explore Koreatown
- Anthony (10/5): Excellent Value - Always stay at Shelter in Ktown. Easy accessibility and great price/value metric. Mister Ash & Team Shelter TCB...TY
PS-Dog Friendly
- Sandra (10/5): - Very clean. Extremely comfortable beds. QUIET! Off the beaten path so no traffic or airport noise. Staff was polite if a little standoffish. Room could have used something to advertise the amenities. I read about several when I booked but there was no indication on arrival there were any amenities at all.
Overall I liked the decor, my daughter said it reminded her of squid game and after she said so I couldn’t unsee it lol! There is even a grotto open to the sky in the middle of the building and it’s painted sky blue.
- Deanna J (10/5): - The property was very nice. The room was great. The staff was very nice. I will stay at this hotel again the next time i go to Los Angeles.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Wknd spot only - It wasn’t worth the high Thanksgiving wknd prices I paid. As others have noted the $20 a day resort fee is ridiculous. It was incredibly loud Mon morning with construction noise outside. Would not recc for a weekday stay. But as a last min wknd spot, it was fine. Several cosmetic updates needed. Huge water stain on my lamp shade. Rust spots on tub ledge. There is a disinfectant smell that u get used too. Area was safe. I walked back from a bus drop off at the Line Hotel late at night on Sat & Sun. 24 front desk. Tea kettle in the lobby for hot water. Coffee machine in room. The lobby is super cute. And the rooms are nicely decorated. Elevator is slow so quicker to take stairs.
- Tafiya Itiaba (10/5): - I really enjoyed staying here! Great location (K-town), walking distance to many great bars, restaurants. Decent Uber rates to various areas of the city, clean and spacious rooms. Would definitely stay here again my next stay in LA! I was honestly pretty surprised.
- Gary (8/5): Good Hotel - Great Location - Silly Resort Fee - The hotel charges a $20/night "resort fee", but is far from a "resort". Its in a great location in Koreatown. A good place to stay.
- Burks (10/5): - A great value! And good neighborhood location.
- joshua (6/5): Nice hotel bad management - Nice boutique feel but overpriced amenities. Parking30 per day per car with a resort fee and yet no pool or amenities. Plus they call you room 3 times before check out to make sure you check out. Also they falsely accused me of listening to other peoples rooms when I paused i the hall before I got to my room..
- JustinR3 (8/5): Ideal Hotel in Koreatown - This hotel is in a great location in Koreatown. It is in a nice part of the neighborhood. It was a 2 minute walk to the central part of k-town. That's where all the restaurants, stores and leisure activities.
The staff were super friendly. I have nothing but great things to say about them.
The room was super clean however, it is time for an upgrade. My room's rug had a rather hole in it. The curtians were stained and the AC was old and loud. That being said, the room was in good condition. Its time to upgrade.
Also, the hotel needs to get rid of the hallway carpet and put either wood floors or new carpet.
I would recommend this hotel. It was a nice stay.
- Dror (4/5): - Price was reasonable but value was not. Very strange smell in the hotel, including the room. Feels unhealthy air to breath. They put colors and funky design of lobby, but building is old and depressing design, and room interior, especially of bathroom, is basic and old.
You get what you pay for, but for extra $40-$50/night might be better to go to newer hotels downtown.
- Cody (10/5): - They gave me space for my bike.
- Myrna (6/5): In the end it’s expensive with all the fee’s - Over priced. $20 service fee per night, when you never request one. And $30 per night parking when sometimes there’s no parking you have to wait.
- Alma (10/5): - N/a
- Louis R (2/5): - The deposit required was extremely unexceptionable 200$
Plus I was overcharged
- Aiman (2/5): - Racist guy working front desk night Sunday 9/19
- jenLeCreate (8/5): Just stayed for the night, but would happily stay again - This place was cool - different from the chain hotels. Located in Koreatown with parking garage underneath and 48 rooms. You can leave your car at home as this is metro friendly and restaurants/attractions are easily walkable.
I booked directly online and since I was staying only the 1 night, the deposit represented the room cost and was paid at that time (the only balance was the $20 service fee (daily)). Hotel easy to find and is kinda a boutique type place reflecting the furniture and artwork in the common area as well as each room. They have tea/coffee and afternoon wine available in the common area. Looked kinda cute but I passed as no vegan options and I had things to do and places to see.
Checkin was simple enough and I got to my room on the 3rd floor. Room had some nice artwork, small frig, window could open (yeah), was clean and had plenty of space for me. Took a quick shower - bathroom was clean and I headed out for my evening. Returned late at night, shower once again and slept well on the king sized bed.
I must admit, I did not spend a lot of time in the room, but would come back here again. Liked the location, staff was friendly, room clean, bed comfortable and price was reasonable. I liked the artwork and the hotel has a good feel to it.
- Dave (10/5): - Look forward to my delayed visit in April. Trip extended due to virus b
- oliavk (6/5): Good location - We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks, the location was just perfect as there’s many places around you can go walking.
Rooms are big and comfortable, but there’s a lot of humidity (our clothes were constantly wet)!
The stuff from the reception is very helpful and nice, the cleaning manager also was very nice and helpful when I found one day a cockroach in my bathroom...on the other hand some of the cleaning women were not very friendly.
- ELLERY (10/5): - I have nothing but praise for this hotel. I’ve left
- ElleryE2 (10/5): Glad to be back again. Happy as always. ALMOST perfect stay but I will for sure COME BACK AGAIN. - I’ve stayed here before and I was very pleased. I checked in Thursday night and was delighted to see how they revamped their lobby with a legit front desk, artsy couches and art pieces that gave this boutique hotel a boost to their aesthetics. The gentleman who checked me in was super sweet and nice. Quick and effective. The room given to me was on the 3rd floor and it was quiet just like the room they gave me 2 years ago. Housekeeping staff did such a great job. When you enter through the parking area, it already smells fresh and clean and sanitized. There’s a pool, ping pong table, free coffee, tea and wine. My bed was a king size and the channels on their tv is a lot. Something I don’t even see in giant hotel companies. Koreatown is a very safe area. $35 Uber ride from the airport. $30 ride to La Cañada golf resort ( even during traffic), and pretty close to WeHo and evening universal. The location is the bomb. So many Uber and Lime scooters around the area. You’re also going to be near Mariella’s tacos, Jollibee and California donuts.
As you can see, I wrote “almost perfect”. Two super Minor things happened during my stay that kinda left me a little salty 🤪 but not enough reason for me to discourage you from staying here. If you read the other reviews on Yelp, you’ll see a guy complaining about the check out time at 11:30am. It is posted on the front desk and if you’ve stayed in a hotel before, you know that it’s customary that 11:30-12pm is the check out and check in is at 3pm. So if you encounter that stupid complain, disregard him as he clearly have not stayed in a hotel before. I talk about this because it’s related to my tiny irked moments. When I checked in, I was told in a VERY RESPECTFUL way that I can’t have more than 1 more person in my hotel room when i asked what’s the protocol if my COUSIN picks me up late at night. I was taken aback by this as I am a 41 year old man who has zero plans of having a party in my room. I felt that I was seen as a defiant guest. HOWEVER, he saved himself by rushing towards my door to help me when he saw me carry heavy stuff and my hands were full. The other thing that bugged me ever so slightly was when at 11:23am today, as I’m headed down to the lobby to check out, my phone rings to remind me about the check out. Check out is at 11:30 so I decided that I’ll step out of my room at 11:25am as my flight got pushed to 8:15pm. When I reached the lobby, the front desk guy named Louie was very accommodating and listened to my gentle nudge that I understand that they’ve had shady customers before and reminded him that I am not one of them. So this goes to the management and not to the front desk employees: gage your customers. Especially returning customers like me who did not trash their room ( who follows hote protocol and also leaves a daily tip for the housekeeping staff) or someone like me who has not caused them any problems in the past. I hope the management reads this and maybe incorporate this culture: gage the client, check out their history with your hotel so if someone like me returns, nobody would feel like a first time hotel guest.
On a very good note: this small boutique hotel does NOT have a late check out option but they are Super willing to store your luggage while you kill time for your flight. I REALLY REALLY appreciated this.
YES. Stay here.
and for the guy who complained about the $20 a night self parking area, you clearly have not been to Koreatown as parking here is so painful. Pay the $20 for the parking.
Also, there is a $20 daily resort fee. If you can’t handle this, look for hotels that don’t charge this. Good luck though.
All in all: I am SUPER DELIGHTED with my stay at Shelter hotel for the 2nd time.
- James (4/5): - So old and smelly
Location is very convenient
They charged $30 per night for parking.
- Verified traveler (2/5): the worst - Want to be treated like a decent human being? Don’t stay at Shelter Hotel. A staff member told me to leave my room for cleaning. I checked in 24 hours before. My schedule was inflexible & I had nowhere to go. I declined cleaning. The staff member became enraged. Citing an arbitrary cleaning policy, he implied that, if I did not leave my room before 2pm, I would be removed. I went downstairs to report this man. Come to find, he was the manager of the entire place.
The manager is petulant and unprofessional. I’ll spare you a transcript demonstrating his embarrassing lack of social tact. What you need to know: he will belittle you, invite you to leave, and refuse to give you the contact information of those above him. (Almost as though he knows his behavior would have him fired!)
Get ready for snarky, sarcastic laughing, slouching, egotism, and zero sense of responsibility. If having a half-decent, safe environment is what you want out of your stay, don’t go to Shelter. I left because I was afraid this man would use the room key and bust into my room. Hotels are about more than a bed; I would have gone to a motel if I wanted to be treated like a dog. Cheap accomodations, shotty security, & dehumanizing service.
Honorable mentions, from the mouth of the manager:
“You feel unsafe? No one’s keeping you here. You can check out.”
“I will not give you the owner’s number. Complaints all go through me. HR goes through me. Call that [fraudulent] if you want.”
- Verified traveler (2/5): BEWARE - One step up from a roach motel, this small hotel has gone through extensive remodeling to make it passable as a hotel and not a motel. However, we pay for not just the room, but also the whole experience, and this is where the place fails. The general manager (who also claims he's a partner) was completely rude and condescending. We will never stay here again and wish we had read all the horrible reviews on Google (that mirror our complaints) before staying here.
- Brite (2/5): - The check in person his name was Glenn he was the rudest most disrespectful person I ever came across in my entire life. He insulted me by saying to me do I know how to read. He then was getting loud and raising his voice. I will never in my life stay here again
- Fabiana (6/5): One nighter - Cute place to stay, centrally locates. Biggest downfall for me not to return despite me liking the place is the exuberant parking and “spa” fee. There is. I spa and the parking is underground and is part of the building.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Underwhelming for the listed price - Very basic. Also, extra charges for having a pet and who knows what else. It ended up costing $100 more than the hotels.com advertised price for one night.
- Greg (2/5): - Had an issue with front desk and they refused to contact the manager or help me. Front desk was unhelpful and lied later on to Expedia when I filed a complaint. I’ve been a traveler for 30 years and the first time I have ever placed a bad review.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location easy parking clean rooms easy check in and out
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Plus: very clean, comfortable room, nicely decorated and quiet for LA. Minus: non-optional extra fee for somewhat limited amenities.
- barbara (4/5): - the rooms are decently big, beds are comfy and is nice enough
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place - The hotel was very clean and the bed was very comfortable And friendly staffs.
I had no complaints while my stay here. Definitely recommend. I would like to come back next trip in LA.
- Guy (8/5): Just Fine. - It was fine.
- Timothy (10/5): Respite in busy Koreatown - From beginning to end our experience was outstanding. We were met in the garage and helped with our luggage. Our handicap-accessible room was spacious, the internet was fast, and garage parking $ available. The common areas were inviting. We found the location to be great for walking to restaurants and other amenities. We will definitely return when returning to the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a no frills hotel. Location is great. Short drive to downtown, Staples Center, Hollywood Bowl, etc. Facilities are clean and staff is always friendly.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was very friendly and helpful. They responded to requests very quickly and were overall very welcoming and helpful.
- Caleb (8/5): just what I needed - Only really needed a bed and a bathroom with air conditioning, got It all in great condition. Very comfy and tidy, would consider staying there again.
- Barbara (10/5): Great Value - This is a great value hotel near my son's home. A perfect and safe place to stay...updated rooms, fun atmosphere and reasonable rate for both the stay and the parking. I will definitely stay here again.
- fivefourthreetwoone1 (8/5): Comfortable, affordable - Decent hotel at a reasonable price - it's a former Days Inn given a boutique lick. The common areas are not exactly well-executed, but the staff are extremely polite, the rooms are decent sized, clean and secure, and there's a pool.
