Guest Reviews
- Bob (10/5): East side hotel - Perfect location, not to expensive either
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Doors to rooms slam really loud. Although they said certain breakfast items were supposed to be available at cafe, no bottled water, granola bars or other items were available. Safe in room did not work. Single bed was super tiny in width and length.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I didn't like the size of the room , I requested double bed room. However according to hotel double bed means single bed. I was unaware if this and had to share a small room with three people.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Typical budget hotel. Room and shower was small, clean. Hallways are tiny and there was very little soundproofing. Voices and doors were loud outside of the room.
- briankR3770NZ (10/5): Great Experience - I have stayed at this hotel multiple times always happy with my stay. The room is clean and the area has lots of resturants. The room is clean and the staff is friendly. Nubi at the desk greets you every morning with a huge smile.
- Kimberly (8/5): - The location, service and amenities was great, but I would suggest a little makeover.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was very, very small even by midtown NYC budget hotel standards. Still, the room was clean, everything worked and the included breakfast was a big plus. Good location, good staff too. If you just need a place to sleep and are not claustrophobic it's a good choice.
- Fishvet (2/5): Management does not act in good faith - I cancelled my reservation at this hotel but they insisted that I had 2 reservations and charged me for one night as a no show. I emailed them the cancellation email as well as a print of my Choice Privileges account showing the single reservation with cancellation but they refuse to reverse the charges. When calling the hotel the first time, they wouldn't let me speak to a manager but insisted I had in fact checked in. When I informed them that I'd never even stepped foot in the hotel, they back pedaled and told me that a manager would call me. No one ever did. I called back a couple of days later and was told that no manager would be there for the next four days (!) but someone would call. Again, no one did. After contacting Choice Hotels guest relations, they too told me that despite my acting in good faith and believing I'd cancelled my reservation, they would not reverse the charge so I've therefore cancelled my Choice Privileges membership and will never stay at another Clarion, Rodeway, Ascend, etc. Between other hotel companies with better customer service and Airbnb, there's no great loss.
- MaevaBrq (2/5): My worst experience - Not corresponding at all to my expectations.
Absoluty not a good value for money.
And the great thing is COCKROACH !!!!
Not he first time, after having seen unfortunate too late other comments.
No excuses made by the manager, just a ridiculous reduction for a room AT more 200€/night.
No change of room, really disappointed, it ruined my stay.
TO AVOID !!!!
- Yudi (2/5): - What a nightmare, elevator did not work for 3 out of 4 days. Room is as small as your home's bathroom, imagine the bathroom size. Breakfast "included" is just 3 items consisting of uncooked hash browns, burned sausages and little pieces of bacon. Toilet got clogged and they took a whole day to fix it. If it wasnt because it was a holiday weekend I would have stayed in another hotel but unfortunately all hotels were full
- Verified traveler (6/5): Free Night Nightmare - The reason why I am not giving a bad review to this hotel nor showing photos of initial room,, is due to the property Manager who accommodated me as best he could. My initial reaction was not pleasant. And it got exasperated when I contacted Hotels.com's Customer Service to complaint about my experience. The room given was not at all what I had expected, nor seen advertised when determining which hotel to stay during my weekend escape. I became mostly furious when the customer representative virtually told me, that I should probably not mind the room, as I had "received a free hotel stay." She sort of implied this to which I had to tell her that I had paid for all the hotels prior to receiving this "alleged free hotel stay." I had to actually pay an additional $103.00 as the hotel charges an estimate of $200 plus fees. And sorry, this is a 2 1/2 🌟 hotel, there are way better hotels for that price! And I was not given options to book another room at a different hotel. I was practically forced to accept the deal the manager would offer, like it or not. Hence, I am appreciative of Sabine , the manager going out of his way to assist me. Biut quite disappointed in Hotels.Com.
- 469brandona (2/5): I wouldn't stay longer than a night, if it at all - The location is probably the only good thing I could say about the hotel. Check in was a miserable experience with the front desk guy telling me my ID was expired and I was under 21 when it clearly wasn't, I'm 22, and he wasn't welcoming at all. He then proceeded to put in this small closet sized room, the door couldn't even fully open, and then we had to move rooms because it was recently exterminated. The tv has about 20 basic channels which mostly showed news, so much for that. None of the employees said at least a "Hi" during the entire stay. The entire hotel is small and unappealing inside. Breakfast is basic and digusting. During breakfast, I was approached by an employee no good morning or any greeting just asking for my room number for no reason. As a fellow hotel front desk employee, I found this to be odd and I don't want to assume profiling but it seemed like he wanted to check if I actually paid to be there as he asked no one else (A white couple and lady) for their room numbers. I wouldn't come back unless this was the last hotel in NYC and even then would I be hesitant. I highly do not recommend.
- 617terris (8/5): Service was very helpful; Excellent location. - There was a mix up in my room reservation and the hotel manager and front desk people went out of their way to resolve it in a satisfactory manner. Great location as well with many dining options and convenient for getting around the city.
- Super8TaosGM (8/5): First Stay In NYC - There is one reason I went out of my way to write this review, the front desk clerk Chris. He was incredibly professional, hospitable, prompt, and hardworking. The poor guy had been pulling an 11 hour shift for 2 of his peers who were unable to make it. Yet he didn't complain, and still had a smile on his face. As a General Manager myself, I can appreciate that level of professionalism, passion, and commitment for the job. He truly is an asset to this establishment and I hope management is not taking him for granted, otherwise I might have to offer him a job elsewhere ;)
- David (2/5): if you are looking for a bed, and that's all - The hotel was just not that great, small rooms, smelled a bit antiseptic. Wasn't really what we were expecting compared the pictures. We ended up not staying and leaving
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nothing special - It was ok but I was disappointed as it was booked for my parents 40th wedding anniversary and I had pointed this out when I booked it but also when they came to check in. Nothing was done for them, which was very disappointing.
- K552QAmattw (2/5): Scary, Drug Dealers, Homeless Living There, Dirty, Stay Away - This place was nothing like we were expecting from a chain hotel on Park Avenue in NYC. We paid over $170 a night, and were woken up all night by constant knocking and drug dealing across the hall. People are living in most of the rooms, the place is smaller than a closet and less clean than a YMCA we once stayed in. Reeked of marijuana, the breakfast is a joke, the view was a pile of trash on top of a broken down roof. Absolutely terrible. We did NOT feel safe here. Do NOT stay here! Awful, awful, can't say enough bad things.
- NotEntirelyLost (10/5): Convenient, clean, mid-range hotel. - I stayed three nights in July. I had a room with one double bed. The room was quite small, but at this price range, in NYC, not unexpected. The room and bathroom were very clean. I appreciated the grab bar next to the tub. The water pressure and hot water were good. The window ac has been replaced with a new style unit that is positioned up on the wall. It worked very well. The bed was very comfortable (it was soft, which I liked), and the carpet appeared to be fairly new. The elevator is rather slow, but it worked. In the room I had, with the double bed, the window did mostly face a brick wall, however this probably made it quieter than the rooms in the front, that face Park Ave. The hotel is located just one short block away from a subway entrance. Also, several places to get food are just a few doors down. The staff were all pleasant, especially Pedro and Sarah, who were very helpful with directions and tips on transportation.
- Gina (10/5): - Nice room, clean. Not all rooms have a private bath so be careful. Very small but it’s New York.... you get to live like they do.
- Johan (8/5): - The person on duty at restuarant in the mornings were very helpfull and friendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): Tiny but safe - John at front desk was great, so was breakfast attendant. Valley worked out good, garage picked up vehicle and dropped off at door when ready, not on site. Rooms are TINY and soso clean. Location is great
- Robert (8/5): Convenient and reasonably priced - This hotel is in a good location and reasonable tariff for New York
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - Great people at the reception and breakfast area. Pancakes are a bonus! And the location is amazing :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s a fairly basic hotel but it is serves its purpose. A decent bed, small but private bathroom and a lock on the door. Breakfast was very good with a reasonable selection of items. Staff were very pleasant. AC unit was a bit noisy but not the end of the world. Quite happy as it was a good price point for Manhattan.
- 711mauded (4/5): Disappointed - I have stayed at other Choice Hotel in New York City including the Midtown West comfort Inn which I had a amazing stay.
The Clarion..... positive
Super nice staff, clean room, free breakfast, comfortable bed.
Negative:
Really sketchy people staying there.
My first 2 nights were ok. Third and final night was a nightmare as a “girl of all trades “ had her clients coming in and out of her room every hour and had music blasting all night.
The police also showed up on my floor to kick someone out who was smoking drugs.
I mentioned it the next morning as I went for breakfast they were apologetic about it but I find it unsafe and did not enjoy not sleeping at all on my final night.
Again staff really friendly and helpful but really sketchy hotel and guests I didn’t feel comfortable staying there.
There should be no “visitors”
every hours of the night showing up one after another in the room in front of mine.
With the small hallway you can hear everything....
Would not recommend or go back. Very disappointed stay......
- lauramJ8903AM (8/5): Good stay - I stayed for four nights in September 2018. Had a wonderful stay. Two desk clerks greeted me, both male, I want to say Yuri and Juan were their names? They were SOOO helpful with ideas for food and attractions. The breakfast attendant was friendly, too. Yes, the hallways were small, and the room was too, but I have never found a room in NYC that wasn't small, unless you pay over $300 a night. Breakfast was everything I needed, and saved me $10 a day. Plenty of outlets by the bed (I have a c-pap, 2 phones and an Ipad). Coffee maker a huge plus. Fridge would have been nice, but not a deal breaker. Location was great. I travel solo, so it is important to me to feel safe. My only complaint (and it would be a plus for many other people) was that the bed was too soft.
- FannyCrackhead (10/5): Nice place to stay - Everything was fairly good. The room was clean, bathroom was clean, it was more spacious than what I expected for being in Manhattan. The breakfast was just ok, but it was free and a way to start the day without having to pay crazy NY restaurant prices. I would have probably given it 4 stars if it weren't for the people working there - they were all so fantastic! So helpful, so friendly, so nice, even when they had to be there working on New Year's. They gave us recommendations for local restaurants, went to the kitchen to get us silverware when we got late-night food delivery that didn't have any utensils, always greeted us with a smile and some friendly conversation - overall they were just great!
- kworthmom (8/5): Good for the price and location - We enjoyed our stay here. We found all the employees friendly and helpful. Housekeeping seemed attentive and thorough. Room 301 had 2 double beds and the room itself was quite large. I wasn't a big fan of breakfast, but it was arranged nicely. Only complaint is we asked that the credit card we reserved the room with be changed at check in. They took our new card and id and said it was no problem. I noticed when I got home that they had run the charges on the original card.
- Thomas (4/5): - The smallest hotel room I have ever seen. I literally couldn't open the door
all the as it hit the dresser. The room was also old and needs a lot of updating.
- jmdoyon (4/5): Tired hotel, hot water problems - Stayed 2 nights, Friday and Saturday. Hotel is well located and the staff is friendly. That’s all the positive comments.
Hot water was out *both* mornings! Both times I got the same explanation- front desk said it was a broken pump and it would be fixed in 2 hours. Unacceptable.
Carpets are old and tired in halls and in the room. Furniture too.
Smells— staff uses overly scented cleaning supplies, noticeable and unpleasant for me.
Bed very soft.
Will not return.
- Catherine (8/5): Smallest hotel room I’ve ever seen - Room was minuscule! About 10x12 feet including bathroom. (I got the twin bed room) Just me and I only need to sleep and shower so it was fine though. Hotel is old but everything worked and it was clean. Walls are thin so you can hear others easily. Staff was friendly.
- Sabrina (2/5): - Not a nice place ! I want a refund!
- ariunwritten (2/5): Not happy - I called trying to pay my reservation before I got there. John answered the phone and told me I couldn't do that. I asked if he could send me a credit card authorization form. He then hung up on me. He wouldn't even give me his name or the name of the manager when I called back. When I actually got to the hotel I instantly recognized his voice. The manager was NEVER there and never addressed the issue. 2. I was told my card wouldn't be authorized, and then it was by the manager..BIG SURPRISE. I was less upset about the authorization and more upset about John. He was the most rude and condescending hotel employee i've ever encountered Pedro and the other girl that checked me in and out were VERY nice and accommodating. The girl that was there when I left was ok, but kinda snooty. She saw me struggling with my bags and didn't try to help. She just looked and smirked. The bed was the most uncomfortable thing i've ever paid to sleep on. I knew the room would be small because it's New York, but it was the size of a matchbox. The front desk needs a revamp BADLY. The highlight of my stay was the fact that I was barely in the room. I promise I won't be back.
- Noam (6/5): - cons - ordered twin room and got a small single room. The hotel insisted its a twin room, and i needed to pay and upgrade to a larger with larger bed. The hotel management was supposed to contact me after check out to discuss the extra charge, but they never did. I had a problem with the sink, but it was fixed quickly. A/C was noisy and didn't really cool. Water pressure was a bit low. Pillows were not comfortable.
Pros - staff is excellent, very attentive. Room was clean, bathroom was spacious. Bed was comfortable.
- danmV5500ZD (8/5): plusses and minuses - The room and bathroom were strikingly clean. The shower had an adjustment both for temperature, and force. The bed was comfortable and had 4 pillows. The central air conditioning was unique to me, and had a hard time figuring it out at first. The breakfast was very complete. BUT i was in for breakfast at 9:00 and it goes to 10:00, and i got the last pieces of bacon, the last egg, and the last of the home fries. The attendant was making no effort to bring out more, the tables had dirty dishes on them, and you had to ask if you wanted waffle mix. The room was incredible small, as were the hallways, how they use a maids cart is beyond me. The lobby did not seem air conditioned, felt bad for the desk clerks, and the one that checked me in was very nice in accommodating me for an early check in, something i am not used to in NYC. It was a good 1/2 hour walk to Times Square, and not conducive for my activities, so i might not stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice place with real service - yes the room was small, but what kind of a deal do you expect in NYC? The staff was most excellent and helpful. There is a place to store luggage. The bed was comfortable. The room was implacably clean. I am very happy with the Clarion. It is easily accessibly on the local train from Grand Central - and it is in a neighborhood full of quaint places to eat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Would stay here again - Perfect location. Near subway and major tourist areas. Room was perfect and clean.
- 25joeyd1 (10/5): small but comfortable - small rooms but great park ave location , reasonably priced especially for Manhattan & a great neighborhood bar right next store. Stayed a couple of nights & saw a lot of Manhattan. Only slept there but very comfortable & staff was accommodating.
- lwest2018 (2/5): Thieves work at this hotel - Besides the room being a tiny box, the housekeeping staff here are thieves.
My 9 year old sons Dallas cowboys wallet was stolen out of the closet that had $200 cash that had been given to him from his grandma for his birthday so he could buy souvenirs on our trip. The hotel staff did nothing to try and help us with this matter and insisted the housekeeper's do not steal here. Extremely disgusted, disappointed all around with this hotel and can only hope Karma will take care of the housekeeper that took my sons money!!! DO NOT STAY HERE! It's not worth saving a few dollars.
- Parisdakar2018 (2/5): Dreadful and Deceptive Stay - We, my out of town hotel manager friend and I, a frequent traveler to New York City, were told by hotel management that we would have a room big enough for both us with a bed large enough for both of us. Not only were we given a room which was nicknamed in-house The Coffin, for its small and tight rectangular size, we were told that for the succeeding nights were there, we would be moved to a larger room at no extra charge, only to be told the next day that we would be charged $150 more for each night. Sleeping against a wall with no room to turn is very uncomfortable. The rooms were so small that a family down the hall had to arrange their affairs outside their room seated on the floor. I heard vulgarity behind the front desk. If this establishment treats a fellow hotel manager from out of town like this unscrupulously, then ordinary customers can only expect worse treatment. A hotel highly un-recommended!
- Margaret (8/5): Great location, very comfortable, friendly - This is an older hotel with modern updates. Mattress was very comfortable, pillows are nice and fluffy, nice quality sheets, blankets, and thick towels. Bathroom shower, toilet, and sink are all new. Some old dirt/grunge around the doorframe, carpeting is not new but not bad.
Continental breakfast includes simple egg patties, sausage, hash browns, fresh waffles, and packaged fruit and pastries. Juices and basic coffee and Lipton teas.
Staff is friendly, professional and helpful.
Room is small, lobby is small but attractive. View out hotel room window is unattractive backs of buildings.
I stayed at the Redbury just around the corner and much prefer its stylish rooms and hotel ambiance and restaurant, but not sure the extra $ is worth it. You can go to Marta, the restaurant at the Redbury, for a meal but stay at the Clarion and save yourself some cash for other NYC expenses.
- landpilots (8/5): Clean, large room, friendly service - No, there isn't a large and glitzy lobby. And yes, the hallways are narrow and the elevator tight. But the room (402) was larger than I expected in NYC (2 double beds and plenty of floor space) and was clean and updated. So was the very nice updated bathroom. Minor issue in first room (202...also good size) and Pedro insisted on moving us even though we were perfectly happy with it. He is helpful and very nice!! Breakfast is typical....cereal, yogurt, egg patties (?), potatoes, bagels, small muffins, bread. Standard fare. Couldn't complain at all considering the good AAA rate we had. They parked our car and were very good at getting it as soon as they could when we needed it. Wi-fi not speedy fast but fine. Starbucks across the street and a great bagel place around the corner and 2 blocks down. Would stay again. (We were 2 adults and 17 year old teen). Thank you Pedro and also the other nice gentleman working morning of 2/10 and 2/11.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - convenient place for dinner and leasure! and near station.
- sallen1000 (2/5): Terrible Hotel - Having booked with Choice Hotels on many occasions I thought booking one on Park Avenue would have been a safe bet, how wrong was I.
Upon arrival I was offered a room with a small single bed in a room with less than 1 foot to the wall one side and less than 3 feet the other, the furniture was broken, the TV did not work on all channels, the chair was dirty and the bathroom just big enough for a small child.
I asked to move and eventually got a double room but it was dark, with suspect carpet, wallpaper coming off the wall by the wall brow, and the window would not close completely and as it was -14 degrees was less than ideal.
Finally the breakfast was disgusting with meat patties and bacon swimming on congealed fat, pastries and bread that was not fresh.
Choice Hotel group need to look at this place as it is dreadful.
- Rich (2/5): Probrably the worst room I have ever stayed in. - First of all they charged me 55 dollars to park. The room was the smallest room I have ever stayed in. They breakfast was not even edible. I would never recommend.
- X (6/5): Good location for budget travelers. - Small rooms, old building, and clunky elevator.
Service very friendly and helpful.
Area has great restaurants and 24 hour stores.
Hotel breakfast ok, weak coffee.
It was a good safe base to explore from.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Extremely Disappointed - I gladly paid $850.00 for 3 nights thinking it was an above average hotel, got a shocking surprise to find out it was just the opposite; dirty rugs, 2 adults in a full size bed (I felt robbed), elevator did not work for a while, female Hispanic receptionist poor manners, male receptionist/cook very professional (only positive experience). Definitely do not recommend.
- Kevin (8/5): Good value - Good location, nice price comfortable room.
- Oleksandr (8/5): Competititve price, decent conditions - Positive-nice competitive price, nice location, good personal, decent breakfast, fast Wi Fi, clean room. Not so good-room was very small.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice hotel, quiet, clean, well managed. Not a five star hotel, but deserves a 4 star rating
- John (2/5): Terrible place - Awful experience, surly staff, lousy beds, smelly rooms. Air conditioning was barely working.
Never again.
- Mallory (8/5): Gave us what we needed - The room were very small. But the bed was comfortable. It was sufficient for what we needed a place to stay the night that was safe and clean. Within walking distance of time square just 5 blocks from the Empire State Building. Only one block from a green line subway entrance. The clerks were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was tasty, but mainly just cereal or pasteries.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location in Midtown. - Great location near Midtown. Close to local grocery store, local taverns and shopping. Only a few blocks away from the Empire State building.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff is very friendly and helpful. Room was small but it gets the job done; you can't expect a big room in NYC for this price so that didn't bother me. Room was clean and everything was functional. Free breakfast was pretty good. Great location and easy to get to and from. I would gladly stay here again.
- Susan (10/5): Great value for location! - The location is excellent, due to its convenient Murray Hill location next to the 6 train. As a lifelong New Yorker, I can say that the Clarion is in a safe, comfortable location and you can't beat the price. The room was on the small side, but the bed was comfortable, the room was clean (dated, but clean), the temperature cozy, and the free breakfast was lovely. The staff kind and welcoming, I think this is a great inexpensive place and it suited my overnight stay after attending a gala just fine.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Small but close to subway and bars - Well, we knew that a hotel in New York would be small and any I have previously stayed in have been... but this is a whole new level of small. I would only recommend it if you are traveling alone. My husband and I stayed here for 5 days and he actually had to leave the room when I needed to get dressed and move around because there was simply no space. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was clean, but the rooms were outdated and the carpet/ walls were very dirty. The breakfast is what you would expect for a "complimentary breakfast" - not bad, not good. There is one elevator and it was old and slow. We took the stairs most of the time from the 3rd floor. Hot water ran out on our last night and was still out the morning we left, so we had to go without showers, which wasn't very ideal. The location is very close to the 28th street subway station, so that was a major plus. We also tried several different bars around the hotel and loved them - hole in the wall bars with great bartenders, drink specials and locals.... so if you're in to that kind of thing, this is a great location for that. We especially enjoyed Desmond's (next door), Wolfe Tone's and Whiskey... something. There are also a lot of convenient restaurants and a Walgreen's around the corner. It's far enough away from the lights and sounds and it's a grew location for subway use, but be prepared for the incredibly small size and lack of frills.
- Older retired (8/5): Pretty convenient. Staff was nice. - Overall the experience was very pleasant. Internet worked great, breakfast was good. Staff was very nice. Hotel was very clean and laid out well. I came for vacation so had no timetables or agenda. So any suggestions I have would just add to a nice experience. 1. The elevator took forever to come. I ended up walking up the stairs because each time I was convinced it was never coming. 2. The room at about midnight each night got very cold. I don't know if they turned down the heat but it was very cold and the covers were not adequate to deal with the cold. 3. The last day I was there there was no cold water. The only notification was a posted Xerox note on the elevator and one in the hall. There was no apology or anything and so I went without a shower because I couldn't brave the cold to endure an icy one.
- Michael (10/5): Quiet. - The staff at the front desk was efficient and pleasant. I had a ticket for valet parking in 5 minutes. Their protocol for valet parking is to dial "0" 40 minutes before you expect to depart and the car is available when you check out. It had to be the most quiet hotel room I have ever slept in. This was a Wednesday evening.
- Linda (10/5): - Pleasant stay. Good breakfast. Price not as outrageous as other hotels in the area.
- Babette (10/5): - I like the location...13 minute walk from Grand Central Station...15 minutes from most anything else.
- Anne (4/5): Great service makes up for so-so hotel - The first room I checked into was horrible - the size of a shoe box and not clean. I found a room at another hotel. However, Pedro at the front desk, offered to find me a better room at the Clarion. He did and I stayed.
He was extremely helpful. If it weren't for him, I would give the whole hotel a bad rating.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Never a 2 star hotel of this kind. - This hotel is horrible for someone who is looking for luxury and is used to 3-4 star hotels. It is well-located but
1- king room is tiny for 2 people and looks dark.
2- elevators are too small and couldn't fit 2 people and their luggage.
3- room service doesn't exist. It's more room assistance and guidance, we didn't have the iron and iron table in our room and my sister had to go downstairs and take them herself.
4- the AC stopped working in the room
5- the breakfast was bad: very fake and it tasted like fresh frozen food
6- no fridge inside the room
7- no windows in the bedroom so no air inside the room: it was awful staying in the room.
8- the design of the room is outdated and scary: I felt I was in an horror movie from the 60s
Overall, the room is horrible for 2016, too small, can't breathe in, ugly!
However, the staff is helpful and willing to assist. The washrooms were super clean. I will never go there again and please don't go there too. The ratings are overrated: this hotel is not worth the money.
- Michael (2/5): - nasty hotel. floor was damp. roaches in lobby.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Honeymoon - Great Honeymoon
- Verified traveler (6/5): Served me well for my solo getaway - Went to New York for a solo getaway to do sight seeing and lots of photography. Hotel is well located. If you don't mind a walk then it's an hour and a half from Brooklyn, and about an hour to Central Park.
Hotel room was the size I expected for New York but well laid out. Breakfast was basic but pleasant.
Enjoyed the stay and would stay again if I was travelling solo. If I was travelling as a couple I might spend a bit more and stay somewhere slightly more up market, but that's just my preference.
- Niall (10/5): - Staff were very nice, breakfast was nice in the mornings
Hotel good do with a bit of freshing up Ie : New Carpets etc
But that in no way took away from a fantastic experience we had there..
- joyce (6/5): Good bang for the buck - It was a good hotel for the price. The room was very, very small, but clean and with a nice enough bathroom. Location was good, safe area, near subway station. Near Central Park. Complimentary breakfast was really nice. Eggs, sausage, bagels etc. nice breakfast room with tv. Staff were wonderful. Friendly and helpful.
- Lee (8/5): New York Break - nice comfortable hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, the continental breakfast was nice plenty of choice, the room was a little bit small for us, but as we only wanted it for sleeping after a busy day exploring the city.
nice location close to the majority of the attractions, Empire state building with in 10 minute walk, Grand central station with in 5-7 minute walk, plenty of café / eateries around the hotel, would recommend this hotel to stay at.
- Ed (8/5): Very Nice facility and Very Helpful and Kind Staff - i WAS IN PARK AVE AREA FOR A BUSINESS EVENT. The Clarion Park Ave was a great location for me, and the cost was very resonable. I was surprised to find that the facility was very comfortable, clean, and with a very nice sociable staff. The room and bathroom were very pleasantly clean and of decent size for NYC hotel rooms of this caliber. The verty nice hot breakfast and free internet were great to have during the few days of stay at the Clarion. I did not see any bugs or pest as I have experienced in other NYC hotels.
- Diana (6/5): Small but Convenient - If you're looking mainly for someplace to store your stuff and sleep in at night, this is the place for you. It's a great location near subway stations and within walking distance to a lot of Manhattan activities. The room itself is incredibly small, even by NYC standards. I traveled by myself and stayed in a single double bed, which was already pretty tight for one person. However the room and bathroom were pretty clean. Use the stairs when you can as the elevator can probably fit at most 3 people without luggage. The free breakfast was decent. There were some hot foods like eggs and sausage in addition to the usual continental fare.
- Pete (8/5): Small room, but clean and comfortable. - Small room with double bed, chest-of-drawers, coffee machine, desk, TV. bedside tables, in-built wardrobe and bathroom.
All areas in the room were clean and comfortable.
Reception staff were helpful and polite, and the older gentleman that looked after breakfast, bags etc. was very helpful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Review of Clarion Hotel Park Ave, NY. - Ok I am going to be very honest!
Upon my arrive, staff was very nice at front desk. She was consistent until we left. I was in a great location on Park Ave, however a few things bothered me. The room was so small, however because I was on Park Avenue, I was able to overlook the space. But in my two days there I was unable to sleep. The Bed was tiny, which is fine because it had to fit in a tiny room. But unfortunately the bed was so Uncomfortable, it was way too soft, almost like Jello. To make things worse all the Pillows were like Jello too. So I couldn't sit up and work. My back started hurting, and I definitely could not sleep. The net curtains and windows were neglected, very dirty, My plan was to extend and stay longer. However I checked into another Hotel after 2 days. Was the best solution in the End!
Clarion. Please you need better beds and Pillows and someone to wash the net curtains!! I would have got very mad if I traveled on an 8 hour flight to come to a wobbly jello like bed where I could not get any sleep.
The solutions for a good location.
Buy better beds and pillows. Have someone clean windows at least once a week. Wash net curtain blinds here and there!! I like the location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ideal location - Good central location with pleasant staff. First impressions good in welcoming Reception. Generally clean. Room very small.
- joni (10/5): Nice hotel - Very nice hotel not too far from everything you would want to do. Rooms are small but that is normal in New York City.
- Melissa (6/5): Not a Bad Little Deal - The location is superb. It's about a 10-minute walk from most prime mid-town locations including Penn Station. The room was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Good price, too.
However, this may have been the world's tiniest room. I'm 5'2" and could barely close the bathroom door if I was on the toilet and nearly tripped several other times because everything was so close together. And my neighbors sucked, but that wasn't the hotel's fault. I didn't spend much time in the room, so that wasn't too big of a deal.
I will stay here again, though. The friendly staff, proximity, price, and cleanliness made up for any (minor) annoyances.
- Verified traveler (4/5): I wouldn't unless I had to - Super small room, with a bathroom that made me choose to skip a shower in. The room was out of date and made me feel a bit dirty.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Merry Christmas - Well, for starters the room was very expensive ($270)for what we received! The smallest hotel room I ever stayed in for sure; double bed rooms only available; warm water only for showers that required a towel to be laid down or you'll fall and possibly break your neck. Our view was horrible! A dark narrow alley that let zero light in the room and an old fire escape... you absolutely could not tell whether it was daytime or nighttime...In terms value on the $, I'll give it a solid 2/10. Ive, stay at motels for $50 that were nicer, however, it's the season in NYC
- Agm (8/5): Good location - The staff is attentive and its in a good location. The 1 bedroom is small, but if you are not staying for ankong period of time and want something nice and affordable this is the place.
- Verified traveler (4/5): You get what you paid for - The first room they put me in was not only tiny, but it was damp, smelly, and the air conditioning doesn't work. I requested to be moved to a different room the second night, it was better and at least the ac worked. It's a minimalist hotel with nothing but a room to sleep in. But you get what you paid for.
- Karen G (2/5): Worse service ever!! - I stayed for one night. The hotel had continental breakfast included, which wasn't worth it. As I'm coming back to my room to rest a bit before checkout, I ran into the maid, who had taken off the bed linens and explained to me that it was to give the laundry room a head start. I have never experienced this before. I finally went downstairs to check out at 11, turns out check out was actually at noon, and as a explained everything to the Front Desk manager, she apologized said that wasn't supposed to happen and offered me a 25% discount on a future stay that I will absolutely never use. She, also took down my information and said that the hotel manager would be contacting me, but of course that never happened.
- Donna (8/5): smaller very nice hotel - Room and bathroom were very small but very clean
- Jonathan (8/5): Great Hotel for the price - Hotel is located in a vibrant area around 29th and Park Ave South. Union Square is one subway stop South. Lots of restaurants in all price ranges. The rooms like, all similar priced hotels, are small, but the bath room is larger than most. It is clean, safe, quiet with a courteous staff. Best of all the internet service actually provides the necessary bandwidth for all your business needs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Honest quality for price - A good hotel for a weekend in NYC. Staff was nice and we had a good stay at this hotel.
- Alan (10/5): Cozy and comfortable - My stay was very pleasant in what seemed to me an old style hotel in miniature. A small front desk was opposite a small lobby, furnished in old world European style. I went up a small elevator to a narrow corridor and down to a tiny room that, nonetheless, had everything I needed, set out in clean, efficient style. The next morning I found that the continental breakfast was, in fact, quite a full one in a small space and closely overseen by a friendly chef. All in all, I would recommend the Clarion to whoever prizes service over size.
- Gregory (8/5): Clean, conveniently located, basic hotel - Enjoyed our 10 day stay at this hotel. It was clean, the staff was friendly and the location was first rate. As all of the reviews I read before I booked stated, the rooms are really, really small. I've been coming to NYC for 30 years, and this may be the smallest room I've ever stayed in. Usually, I don't spend much time in the room, so it was not an issue, but for some travelers who like to lounge in the room, forget it.
- Jasmine (8/5): Very Comfortable Beds! - Very comfortable rooms and a friendly and helpful staff made my stay at Clarion a memorable trip. The room was smaller than I expected, but the mattress was too comfortable to worry about anything else in the room. wonderful pillows as well. All in all, I didn't want for much. It's close to pretty much every type of store, and taxis constantly run up and down Park Ave. I will be staying there again!
- Glenn (8/5): Not fancy but solid place to stay - I was on a long weekend trip to visit old friends in NYC. I was not looking for a fancy hotel, just a place to sleep. This hotel worked perfectly for that need. Room was small, as expected in NYC, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Staff was always friendly when I passed through the lobby. Free internet was a nice added bonus since so many hotels today still charge for this feature. Is it a 5 star resort hotel, absolutely not, but if you are looking for a decent place to sleep at night this hotel will work perfectly for that purpose.
- Tae Koo (10/5): Centrally located hotel with high quality staff - My team stayed here for two days during the UN's GA week. We were extremely lucky enough to find this hotel at a reasonable rate! It's centrally located and very accessible! Most important, I would acknowledge the high quality customer service. Yuri, Jessica, Pedro, Ana, Rafael , just to mention a few, helped my team have the most comfortable stay here.
- William (8/5): Compact but convenient - The room is very small but is set efficiently. It is also very clean. All of the amenities were there: plenty of good towels, toiletries, etc. It was a quiet and convenient place to spend the night after the ballet.
- Denise (6/5): Small rooms but GREAT location. - The room was VERY small but clean and close to every thing. I am a walker so I walked to Empire State Bldg, Time Square, Grand Central. If you don't want to walk just hop on the subway. Several stations in close proximity. They offer breakfast which was decent. I did not like the fact that you couldn't make your own waffle. You had to wait for one guy that was not only the person running breakfast but the bell captain and sometimes front desk. But if you don't want their FREE breakfast you have plenty of choices. Several places to eat; Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Bread and Butter, Chipolte, McDonalds. Also several nicer restaurants located in the area. For the price I would return and/or recommend. I'd give it a 3.7.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Bed & Shower - Room very very small breakffast should be ready on time stated at the hotel. However they were not ready as the people went into the breakfast room.It
- kan (8/5): Location location just to sleep - Room and bathroom was very small. good only for 2 people. Didn't spend much time in room so was ok. Otherwise location is excellent for touring NY.
- Thomas (8/5): Clarion Hotel - Park Ave, NYC - The Clarion Hotel was able to respond to my room request at close to last minute. The staff was extremely helpful with direction, subway and bus directions, assisted in identifying a rental car agency nearby, etc. All was done with great knowledge of the city, especially in the local area. Breakfast was complimentary and quite good. I was very pleasantly satisfied with the accommodations and assistance provided by the staff. Thx of great stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): close enough to Grand Central for the money - This hotel was sufficient for our needs. We needed a place close to GCS to get us back and forth from the Metro Red train and to the #7 to get us to the US Open. Since we only really needed it to sleep at, I guess it did the job.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfectly fine for 1 day overnight stay - Had a perfectly pleasant time here, as others have noted the room is rather small, however this allows for A/C to work quickly, Wireless works well, and no real issues. Walls are kind of thin, so try not to listen to your neighbors conversation, but for the price and central location it's certainly adequate.
- Brandon (8/5): - Short and Sweet
- Verified traveler (6/5): - very small rooms. Hotel needs major refit. Price is cheap for where it is.....You should only stay here for the price!
- Jack A. (8/5): Good trip - Had to change rooms 3 times but staff was very accomodating and friendly, first room smelled like smoke, second room had too much traffic noise. Enjoyed their breakfast with waffles and other items free of charge...also had a free cookies/snack and coffee in the evening. Also kept my nutella in the pantry for my morning meals.
- Benjamin (8/5): Good price, good location - Located in a nice neighborhood on Park Ave. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. They have valet parking for $30/night, but we actually got lucky and found street parking. Rooms are clean, very small, but it's NYC, and for the price we were completely satisfied. Overall no complaints!
- Matthew (8/5): Pretty good - Me and my partner stayed only one night but our quick stay was pleasant thanks to clarion hotel. Like most reviews will say the rooms are a bit small in size but for a couples stay for a romantic weekend the size wont bother you. The service was all around good, pleasant people and an overall nice hotel
