Guest Reviews
- belinda (8/5): Always a great stay - Great location, staff friendly, funky rooms
- Mary (10/5): Will continue to stay here when I am in Sydney - The staff are wonderful and kind to help me, as I had a large amount of luggage. They are pet friendly allowing my cat to stay with me. They had my room set up to accommodate him as well.
- Laura (7/5): Good value for money but noisy! - Location was great. Rooms were clean. Overall good value for money. Walls are incredibly thin. Can hear tv’s, music, even people just coughing in neighbouring rooms. Makes it hard to sleep.
- Pia Watkins (8/5): Cute little hotel close to Darling Harbour - The Ultimo was neat and quirky with cute brick work in the room giving a warm and welcoming feeling. The walls are a little thin and you can hear street traffic and the conversation in the room next door (happy they fell asleep early).
- Shaun (9/5): Great location, great staff. Clean, friendly, affordable. We will definitely stay here again. - The staff were great and friendly. The location is great situated in Chinatown. Spoilt for places to go, see and eat.
- Natalie (9/5): A great hotel, staff, location and value for money. - Great location, staff and facilities. Nothing.
- Christopher (10/5): Overall a great place to stay. - Great location. Good value. Incredibly clean and comfortable room. Stayed on level 3 which is their new floor. Felt very safe. My only gripe was that I flew into Sydney from Bali and did the red-eye flight which arrived at 6am, so I paid $20 for early check in at 8am.
At 1pm, the guy from reception is banging on the door, which woke me up from my slumber as I was exhausted from my early arrival. He had a bit of an attitude and said “you do know it’s 1pm and check out is at 11am sir?”
I said yes, I know that, mate I only arrived in this room at 8am and paid for early check in. He said, what? This room? I said yes, mate. He basically huffed and said oh, don’t worry about it then and walked off. No apology to me for the disturbance - nothing. Incredibly poor experience in my opinion. No offer of a refund for my early check in fee so I could sleep - which he woke me up from! Whoever the guy is, needs to read the notes/details of the booking if someone has checked in early..
- Hannah (5/5): We chose it for budget reasons and the budget was satisfied, even if we weren’t. - Location fantastic. Room clean and fine. Good bathroom. No milk in fridge. Aircon rattled at random times at night. Pillows flat. Aircon stuck on 20deg (too warm) and we had to call front desk except the phone was broken.
- Annika (9/5): -
- Natalie (9/5): Clean, modern, and excellent location - Really clean and spacious rooms. The front desk staff were amazing and kindly gave me a room upgrade and early check in, which was so appreciated. The location couldn’t be more central, it’s right in the heart of Chinatown and a one minute walk to the light rail. I would definitely stay here again. Nothing
- Keejana (8/5): -
- Peter (8/5): -
- Natasha (7/5): Great location, helpful staff, good value for money. - Great Location, Friendly staff and clean facilities. Beds were comfortable and the price was great!
- April (8/5): - The location and staff are friendly & helpful. NA
- Jodie (9/5): -
- Hung Cuong (8/5): -
- Emma (10/5): -
- Joanne (5/5): Disappointing - Comfy bed and handy location The noise - I was put in a room that had an adjoining room door right in front of the lift/staircase. So between the two doors in my room I could hear EVERYTHING. The neighbours talking, bashing their bathroom door open and closed, every single person coming and going from the level via the lift or stairs.... makes for an impossible sleep. Not to mention the housekeeping liked to smash everything into the walls, skirting boards etc every morning nice and early.
There was no where comfortable to sit in the room - just the bed and 2 uncomfortable dining chairs. Not enough lamps to have light in the room without having the big overhead light on. Overall being in the room itself was noisy and uncomfortable.
Wouldn't stay again.
- Patrick (10/5): -
- Andrei (7/5): - The location and pet friendly Lift take time
- Francoise (5/5): - The bed was comfortable and the room was clean The receptionist was unhelpful. She was polite but suggested I google the location of parking (such a gen Z thing to do). If she had a mao that would be helpful. The parking was not on location and I ended up parking at a Wilsins which was more expensive. The chair in the room was wobbly and stained. My room was 230. The website needs to be expilicite regarding the tiny room size.
- Graeme (8/5): Was comfortable - No couch & no door on single bed as in pictures
- Camille Moniquec (10/5): -
- David (8/5): -
- Jenny (10/5): - Staff were courteous & helpful.
- Sharon (5/5): If you can get a good rate, it’s fine for a short stay. Might be tough for a light sleeper. - Location is handy for Light Rail connections, both down George St and across to Central, with the connection to the airport. Lots of eating options, being in Chinatown and near Darling Harbour. Staff were pleasant. I only saw my room on level 1. Rough warehouse(?) conversion. Very cheap room fit out but you get what you pay for. It was mostly clean and reasonably comfortable. Noise from back lane garbage trucks but not constant.
- Paul (9/5): -
- Megan (8/5): Fab location and amazing staff - thanks for a great stay! - The location was perfectly central The blinds did not cover the whole window so very early light woke us
- Michelle (8/5): - Great location and just the right size
- Danh Huyen Diep (5/5): -
- Robert (8/5): - Location was great, although this also meant noise. The hotel design itself is great. Nothing was missing, it looked modern and clean. Noise from the alley behind. Being so close to a mall meant early morning service noises.
- Robyn (9/5): -
- Kayla (10/5): -

- Briana (9/5): great location, good value for money. - Amazing location, directly opposite entrance to Haymarket in China Town. King room is quite small but we were upgraded to a family room when we returned and that was great. Beds were really comfortable. I did need to ask reception to turn heating on in the room as it was cold and when turned off at night the bedding was not really warm enough and there are no extra blankets available in the room. but that was the only problem. would highly recommend.
- Nora (9/5): -
- Meagan (9/5): Great location for a great price! - The renovation work to an old Aussie pub was lovely. Bathrooms were modern and additional layers were on the window. Staff were friendly. Our room was right across the street from the pub - which has a last drinks at 2am, and 4am on weekends. Sound wasn’t too bad if you’re a heavy sleeper, but definitely ask ahead if you’re a light sleeper!
- Briana (9/5): would recommend to anyone wanting a great value hotel in fantastic location - fabulous location opposite haymarket in china town. beds really comfortable some extra blankets in the room
- Floortje (8/5): - Locatie is top centraal, alles was netjes en school
- Debra (7/5): -
- Robert (9/5): -
- Erlies (10/5): -
- Roxanne (8/5): - Locatie was top, midden in China Town en naast St Paddy's Market. Leuk personeel. Jammer dat ze geen ontbijt serveren.
- Ethlyn (8/5): - location renovations
- Marla (10/5): Wonderful Stay. - We found the Hotel awesome. Staff were good too.. Especially Francisco, Jody..
- Greg (9/5): -
- Laura (8/5): -
- Karl (8/5): Great for a city stay! - -The location is fantastic to be based in Sydney's CBD. It''s opposite the market for fresh fruit and various foodstuff, and there are fantastic restaurants just outside the hotel and a Woolworths is a few steps away - yet it's not an overly noisy spot.
-The (single) room was cozy with a modern touch-up, which may for an inviting space.
-The ensuite shower was very clean and even had wash towels and body lotion (which are not always offered at other properties). -The layout of the room and spare furniture (a single chair) means sitting straight upright whilst watching tv (a footstool might've maybe helped: you can't reposition the tv to watch it from the bed)
-My card was charged as credit even though I had asked for the EFTPOS option
- Lesley (8/5): -
- Steve (6/5): - Excellent, friendly staff.
Very convenient for Central Station and Light Rail.
Excellent shower room. The room was ridiculously small for two people travelling with two suitcases.
No storage whatsoever.
- Viivi (7/5): - Good location, clean
- Phillip (7/5): -
- Gary (7/5): Great location and great connection to public transport. - Great location. Good size room. Great connections to public transport A little bit noisy. But the addition of double glazed windows certainly helped. Unfortunately our air con was on the blink so had to open a window the last night of our stay.
- Samantha (10/5): Give Ultimo a go! - We stayed in a standard queen room (a place to get ready and sleep). The room was fantastic equipped with tea/coffee, iron/board, hairdryer, soaps/moisturisers. For the price: location, amenities, cleanliness and staff assistance - we were very impressed. As were our guests in the King and Family rooms. We will be back. Thanks Ultimo!
- Mollie (8/5): - Location was perfect for our group. Room size was great. Shower was good. Blind had a gap so bed closest to the window had light right on the pillow making it hard to sleep
- Amanda (10/5): Great value for money in a very accessible part of town. - Great communication from staff
- cjbarles (8/5): Good for the price, Greta location - Great location close to public transport options, walking distance to Darlington Harbour, George Street and right in Chinatown. The facilities were clean, comfortable and there was free water in the lobby. Room was facing the alley and was sectioned into 3 areas so very little natural light apart from the section with the bed containing the window.
- Scott (1/5): -
- Margaret (6/5): Great value for an overnight stay. - It was clean. The bed was comfortable .
Staff were very friendly and most helpful. My room didn’t have any natural light. Felt slightly claustrophobic.
- Julian (9/5): Friendly welcoming staff, the comfortable room furnishings like the double bed and its closeness to many restaurants. - It’s close location to central station, the comfortable room and overall good value for money. Had no complaints or issues at all.
- Michelle (8/5): - So close to everything The international staff were not very friendly. The others were lovely though
- Bradley (9/5): -
- Hannah (7/5): It was satisfactory. - The location The bed moved because it was on wheels. The body wash container was empty.
- Tanya (7/5): -
- Rizalyn (10/5): It was good during my stay. - Near Chinatown Nothing
- Dominic (8/5): - Everything was great friendly very helpful staff
I left my keys in my room & they located them & returned to me by post very promptly much appreciated
- David (4/5): - Thin walls and noise travelled.
- John (8/5): -
- Randolph (10/5): Awesome Hotel - The hotel was convenient located close to the light rail and the CBD area. The room rate was great for where it is located surrounded by really good restaurants and shopping areas. I think there could have been more TV channels to choose from. It's pretty limited.
- Alexandra (10/5): - Nice room, clean, comfortable, good shower, nice amenities. Excellent location. Would stay again.
- Joshua (10/5): - Everything
- Dates (10/5): - All of it 00
- Mariano (10/5): It was excellent and nice stay - We like the staff in the reception very accomodating and specially the location near to everything. Nothing all is good
- Yen Nhi (10/5): -
- Tim (9/5): Great location, lovely ambience and modern amenities - Old fashioned feel with plenty of room, but modern amenities, including excellent beds. Also a really good deal with a nearby parking facility - make sure you use it! We didn’t and later regretted the extra cost. Nothing not to like
- Doug (7/5): Adequate. Good location. - Great location Very little space, lots of trip hazards in the room and they didn’t service it during the stay despite requesting this.
- Yanzhou (10/5): -
- Beau (7/5): Passable but not exceptional. - Central proximity. Lack of natural light in the room.
- william (10/5): - Staff were very friendly and rooms were very clean and spacious.
- Ashley (9/5): -
- Sorensen (8/5): -
- Anzbex (10/5): We will always choose the Ultimo as our first option to stay whilst in Sydney. - We always have a fantastic stay at The Ultimo . The location is absolutely perfect — right in the heart of Haymarket and within easy walking distance to George Street, Paddy’s Markets, Chinatown, the Capitol Theatre, Darling Harbour, public transport, shops, cafes, and restaurants. Everything feels just a stone’s throw away, which makes exploring Sydney so easy and convenient.
The rooms are always very clean, tidy, and well presented, with extremely comfortable beds for a great night’s sleep after busy days out in the city. The room itself was cosy, quiet, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
One of the standout parts of our experience at the Ultimo is the staff. Every staff member we have ever dealt with has been incredibly polite, welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, and they genuinely made us feel looked after throughout our stay.
Overall, this is a fantastic accommodation option for anyone wanting a clean, comfortable, and conveniently located place to stay in Sydney.
- George (8/5): -
- Arthit (8/5): -
- Alison (9/5): Fabulous position easy walking from Central, lovely staff, fabulous rooms and beds. - I had one of the new rooms on the third floor which was fabulous. Bedding was wonderful and everything new and clean. Bathroom was large and well lit. One thing not perfect was the water flow from the shower but apparently that has been an issue with the new rooms and is being fixed.
Also no USB ports for phone charging,
- Paul (10/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): 10/10 - I've never been so satisfied, I totally recommend The Ultimo Hotel!
The stuff is kind, organized and helpful. I needed some time extra before the check in and after the checkout as well and I got it for free. They new I was moving so I had with me all my stuff and they upgraded me the room for free. I think that's wonderful.
The room was clean, wide, comfortable and the location is perfect.
Loved it! Nothing, I liked everything!
- Opal (7/5): Loved the location. - The two young men who greeted us with enthusiasm and were very helpful in providing local knowledge and restaurant recommendations. Location for an event. Paper thin walls. Could hear everything next door. YIKES! Usual layout of room, had to be careful not to trip entering the bathroom and lower room.
The interaction with early morning reception staff unwelcoming or friendly.
- Megan (10/5): - We regularly stay at the ultimo when we visit sydney. It is close to light rails and Central station. The price is always a fantastic price. Comfortable beds.
- Kristie (9/5): - Great location, lots of food around and easy to jump on light rail to get around. Had some stairs to get to room had to lift luggage bags up them
- Luis (9/5): -
- Jenny (9/5): -
- Jennifer (8/5): Comfortable and charming, right in the heart of China town and Thai town! - Charming building - modern fitout - PERFECT location near central station! Would have loved a gym but fantastic otherwise!
- Anne (9/5): - The bed was so comfortable, the shower was excellent , it was a good sized room, the position was great. Everything you want in a one night stay. Nothing really.
- Pratt (10/5): - The location is the best Nothing
- Lydia (10/5): Great stay, my boys loved it,a unique experience for them. - Right in china town, clean, modern and very nice staff. Nothing
- LESA (10/5): - Modern. Freshly painted spacious room Water pressure in the shower was the only negative.
