Guest Reviews
- Adam (10/5): enjoyed every minute we stayed there - room was excellent
bed comfortable
all amenities excellent I use rollator
It was good if the hotel will provide a means to use it snd not need to drag it alone on the stairs
or have to pay the doorman each yime i leave or return to the hotel
- Helane (6/5): Overpriced for the conditions other than the location. - Location Facilities are very old and worn, slowest elevator, bathrooms are dated.
- Federico Alberto (8/5): Good option but can improve details - The location Mattresses were very soft and old, very bad pillow as well.
They should refurbish the beds.
- Kellie (9/5): I would definitely stay again. The location was perfect!! - Perfect location! Staff was friendly and helpful. Not much to dislike. If I had to anything it would be that the AC was temperamental and hard to adjust to our personal liking. Also the beds were comfortable, but the mattress pads were a bit too “noisy”.

- Helane (6/5): Good location, fair accommodations. - Location Facilities are old and elevator is ridiculously slow.
- Maya (8/5): -
- Valery (7/5): Really lovely location and enjoyed walking over to the park. - Location, clean, friendly staff Their radiator and air ducts made quite a bit of noise
- Wood MD (8/5): Comfortable hotel in a very accessible location in New York. - Location
Great staff No in room refrigerator
Only 2 Elevators and they were slow

- Richard (8/5): Hotel was clean and comfortable. Subway access was close, just around the corner. - Our room was on the 6th floor. We faced east. Room was with 2 full beds. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, pillows were good. shower was great. AC worked great and cooled room well. Could open windows slightly if you desired. Curtains blocked most light to darken room well. Had a window in bathroom and now vent fan. Opening window didn't help with steam on window at all. Also, with window open the couple inches, if you don't close the shower curtain, people from across the street could see into bathroom if they wanted. Closing shower curtain doesn't allow for steam to be able to escape.
Elevator door doesnt open completely and you bump into the 6 inches that sticks out thinking it is still opening more. From outside, it is flush. Therefore, door is larger than fixed side of elevator. Nothing they can do about it but i found it annoying.

- Catherine (8/5): The Lucerne is in a good location and not too expensive. - Easy access to Nice Matin and the closeness of all kinds of shops. Toilet seat too low.
- Ellen (9/5): We would definitely stay here again - location, comfort especially the beds nothing
- Bozena (9/5): would’ve been perfect if elevators had been reliable - location, staff, old fashioned charm, comfort broken elevators
- Paul (5/5): Good stay elevator issue made an otherwise good vacation frustrating. - I liked the property. I have stayed at the hotel before and had a great experience. Upon arrival the hotel has two elevators one of which was not working. That evening the second elevator quit working requiring all the guests to take the stairs to their rooms. We had to go six floors many had to go as high as 12 floors. The next day they had one elevator working intermittently and although they worked diligently to try and get the elevator’s working normally the issues continued from Thursday evening through Saturday.
- Julia (10/5): - Staff
- George (4/5): Overall decent. If the valet and elevators weren’t in play this would have been great from decent. - Location was amazing. We were specifically going to the America Museum of Natural History so this was ideal walking distance. I called and they said they would valet my truck. I get there and I can’t valet my truck. Had to park at a garage over on 83rd. Then the elevators both were not working. One completely out of service and the other being manually operated. I get there are emergencies but having to go down 8 flights of stairs with 2 young kids because after 5 8 minutes they can’t send the elevator up and it’s breakfast time, it wasn’t something I had expected to deal with.
- Tina (8/5): Nice, quiet place to stay - Great location, friendly staff

- Ariel Bar (1/5):

- Heidi Williams (10/5): Great location, beautiful hotel with excellent service and staff in the Upper West Side. - Great hotel in a great part of the upper west side with friendly staff and very spacious NYC rooms. Less than a block from the subway and less than two blocks from a safe greenway for exercising. No complaints from our family at all.
- Denise (10/5): Great sisters trip - Great location and kind responsive staff Think walls, could hear neighbors and pipes
- W700ENallisonb (10/5): Lucerne Hotel is a great place to stay in the UWS! - This was a great experience!
Clean and friendly! The bed was super comfy, and the bathroom very clean. Will be returning for a wedding later this month.
- johnsY9955MA (8/5): Very pleasant stay in the Upper West Side - My wife and I took our grandson to NY City for a few days during spring break and we stayed at the Lucerne Hotel. It was a very pleasant stay. The staff were courteous and accommodating throughout. The room was small (typical for NY City) but quite clean with a fully tiled bath and shower. It was also very quiet, which may be common at older hotels. Even though the bathroom toilet was equipped with the powerful industrial flushing mechanism necessary in large hotels, we never heard any noise from other rooms at all. Our room was on the 11th floor and, with the windows open, we could hear some street noise, but that was distant and actually pleasantly soporific when trying to drop off to sleep. The hallway music was soft muted jazz, a huge relief from the heavy pop so often heard in hotels these days (I thought it was very "Upper West Side").
We chose the hotel because there appear to be very few hotels on the Upper West Side and we love nearby Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. All are only a block or two away. The hotel is also on the "1" train so we were able to travel easily downtown to the High Line and other sites.
The neighborhood is lovely, very residential but bustling with life. We had breakfast at the old classic Jewish deli Barney Greengrass nearby, and our lunch in the Hotel restaurant was fine -- the service was good and the dining room had big windows perfect for "people watching."
A few nits -- there are only two elevators so during peak times (check-in and check-out) there can be a wait. Also, the hotel lobby is dark and small and not particularly welcoming to tired travelers -- it could really use some decorating attention.
- Constance (10/5): Great location, lovely staff, excellent restaurant and large comfortable room, altogether very nice! - Great location for us.
- Church (8/5): Very pleasant. - The location is great . Loved the dining room for breakfast and after dinner drinks .
Good bed . The bathroom lighting was too dark . And there was no magnifying mirror.
- EUGENIO (9/5): Excellent; mildly overpriced; but I would have no reserves to comeback. - Excellent location and neighborhood Coffee and tea shop with bakery in addition to the restaurant
- LudwellMom (10/5): Lovely property! - Lovely property in a prime location. The very competitive 2-night rate I got was exceptional (less than $200/night). Staff is delightful, rooms are very nice.

- 820mattheww (10/5): Great Location - The location of the Lucerne is perfect for us, as former residents of the Upper West Side. The staff members are all courteous and cheerful. Nice Matin is a wonderful restaurant.
- Guillermo Ferraris (10/5): - Everything! A great hotel in a wonderful neighborhood in the Upper West Side, on Amsterdam Ave. and just a block away from Broadway. One step away from Central Park, one step away from the Subway. Excellent service. N/A

- Quest56357616143 (6/5): Upper West side for the win - Great location....excellent bell staff!!! They were so helpful and nice.
Front desk staff not so friendly or attentive....they make you feel as though you are inconveniencing them. Rooms are fine....mattress was very worn. Room was exceptionally clean. Hotel has charm. Neighborhood is awesome. IF I come back to New York I will definitely stay in the Upper West side.

- Kimberly (10/5): Fantastic stay - King Suite has pullout couch and door between bedroom/living room - We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Lucerne. We stayed in the King Suite for a week. Everything was updated and very comfortable and HUGE. The living room in the king suite came with a pull out couch, which was great as we had two little kids. There is a door separating the living room and bedroom, which we could not tell from the photos and is so helpful when traveling as a family. The kitchenette is small - just a microwave and minifridge. There are no plates or utensils, but we bought plastic ones and dish soap for the bathroom. The cleaning staff and bell/doormen were SO nice and helpful. We love the UWS - fantastic location near the park and museums and easy subway access. Nothing - truly fantastic stay at this hotel!! Especially for a family.
- Collins (8/5): - Great location -close walking distance to MET & Guggenheim and public transportation. Lovely architecture. Clean. Comfortable. Great neighborhood/restaurant access.
Lovely staff.
- CarolannM721 (10/5): One night stay on the way back from a long trip... - Room was clean and quiet, desk and maintenance staff welcoming. The door guys are helpful with a cab, the front door and the elevator. I feel I can rely on the Lucerne to be my place to be cozy and at home whenever I head back to NYC.
- MRO101 (8/5): Very Nice for Beacon Theatre Event Stay - Great choice if you are going to see a show at the Beacon Theatre. Comfortable, clean room, nice bath, nice lobby. Nice Matin restaurant on 1st floor of the hotel was fabulous for breakfast and dinner. Good value.
- Angela (5/5): Great location but front desk staff was rude and hotel is super old with no renovations. - Location was great Hotel needs to be updated badly. I feel like we time traveled to the early 80s, but not in a good way. Adding outlets to night stands would be a good start.

- GoFrogs2005 (10/5): Nice and Quiet hotel stay for NYC vacation. - We booked the Lucerne to stay away from the noise of times square and because I'm not the biggest fan of heights. It was a perfect combo. It was within easy walking distance of some museums and Central Park, and the subway station with the train to take you to the heart of Times Square was an easy 1 block walk. The room was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful. They even offer a car service to take you to the airport that's significantly less than what Uber was charging.
- mjdrex (10/5): I'd go back to the Lucerne right now if I could. - I got to stay here for a week and can't recommend it highly enough. The location is great: lots of restaurants to choose from and two museums a short walk away. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. They helped make the week go by in a flash.

- david (10/5): Classy vintage hotel that is close to all manhattan sites. - Very knowledgeable staff. Rooms are nice. It is a vintage hotel that has been updated. Great water pressure and heat 🔥🔥 in the shower. Also love the door men that open the door for you. Great touch. Location is excellent for subway and bus pickup/dropoff.- 1 block or less. Makes navigating NYC easier. Elevate works as it supposed to but it is a little slow. Also the door for it does not always open completely. I bumped into it.a couple times when I didn’t pay attention good.
- Margaret (10/5): -
- afburns (10/5): Excellent place to stay. - We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The restaurants nearby are excellent and offer great variety, and there are two subway lines within easy walking distance. The area is not too touristy, and really feels like a neighborhood you could live in. The staff were responsive and very friendly.

- 789nikhilw (2/5): Poor experience with group sales representative - I recently traveled to New York City for a business trip with a team from various departments within our firm. Because our schedule was tight, our company’s travel department asked that we coordinate arrangements directly with the hotel. A colleague and I handled the planning and booking for the entire group, so we had fairly extensive communication with the hotel in advance of our stay.
On the positive side, the location is excellent. The property is within easy walking distance of Central Park and close to nearby subway stations, which made navigating the city very convenient for our group’s meetings and evening plans.
The historic building is beautiful, but the accommodations themselves felt dated. The rooms appear to have seen little recent updating, but that wasn't our main concern.
What stood out most, however, was our experience with the hotel’s group sales representative during the planning process. We were unaccustomed to handling travel details directly and were hoping to have a smooth experience with a professional who would respectfully guide us. Given that we were coordinating logistics for multiple guests, we anticipated clear and professional communication. Instead, many of the responses my associate received were unexpectedly curt, and sometimes outright impatient and rude. Emails were often extremely brief, sometimes just a single word, and frequently lacked punctuation or the kind of basic etiquette and detail that would help clarify next steps. The tone came across as dismissive rather than supportive, and wholly unprofessional. I didn't feel like our business was valued.
Coordinating travel for a group inevitably involves numerous questions and adjustments, and in that context a courteous and informative point of contact is essential. Even small gestures of professionalism and politeness can make a significant difference when guests are organizing a complex stay.
While the hotel’s location is undeniably convenient, our experience with the group booking process left a disappointing impression. We will not be returning for our next trip. A more responsive and professional approach from the group sales representative would greatly improve the overall experience for guests planning organized trips and garner more return business.
- frankiew962 (10/5): Absolutely loved this Upper West Side Hotel! - I found this hotel through a google search for fragrance free hotels (I get headaches from air fresheners) in NYC and this one popped up. There is no scent on the sheets or towels or in the room. I loved that you can open the windows and get fresh air in the room. The hotel is well appointed. We booked the hotel for a Spring Break trip with my 12 and 13 year old daughter and son to show them the city. Best location - Loved that I could wake up early while they slept in and go for walks in Central Park and Riverside Park which were just blocks away. Everything you need is literally a block away from the hotel, Walgreens, subway, grocery market, Bagel Shop, restaurants. The Nice Matin - the adjoining restaurant has great coffee and breakfast. It is an older building so there was no fan in the bathroom but we just opened the bathroom window to let steam out after a shower. Beds were very comfortable. We booked a Queen Suite with 2 queens and my son slept on the fold out couch in the other room. I feel like it was a great value for the amount of space we had. The hotel staff is courteous and helpful and they have doormen that open the doors for you when you come in and walk out; it felt so fancy! We stayed 5 nights and never had any issues. The housekeeping did a good job and the room and hotel felt clean. I would definitely come back and stay at the Lucerne again!
- Jen1116 (10/5): We'll be back - We stayed here to visit a school in Morningside heights. It was a terrific location and everyone at the hotel very helpful and friendly. The restaurant downstairs is terrific. The hotel is a good value compared with other NYC hotels, although none of them are inexpensive. We were able to find street parking for the entire stay (weekdays). Would definitely come back.
- Bruno (8/5): -
- Michelle (8/5): Great location. Hotel needs a renovation but priced correctly - We had a large room with a separate area with a little lounge Heating did not seem to be working in our room. It did work in bathroom and lounge area
