Guest Reviews
- Kathryn (8/5): - Property basic but fine. Clean and comfortable
- Hind (10/5): Berlin - Convenient hotel with plenty of facilities nearby and very good for transport and links. Was in a quiet residential area.
- Lesley (8/5): - Lovely hotel & very reasonably priced . Staff friendly. Breakfast was great . Lovely big bedroom but very uncomfortable to be in because of the heat.
- Mark (10/5): - The hotel is very clean and the staff are all very helpful. Although not walking distance to the main sites there are public transport links nearby. Nice little bar and restaurant, We didn't try breakfast but it looked like there was a good choice.
We had an economy room and the beds were really hard.
We didn't request housekeeping to come in to our room but they came in anyway.
- Anders (6/5): Dårlig seng - Man kunne mærke fjedrene i madrassen i sengen
- Marc (6/5): - .
- Natasha (8/5): Convenient and comfortable stay - It was nice. A very large and comfortable room. Staff were friendly and helpful. Supermarket conveniently located around the corner
- Mikael (8/5): Helt ok - Inga elkontakter vid sängarna. En sänglamporna var trasig! Mattan mycket smutsig och fläckig. Mögeldoft i det fina badrummet. Dyr frukost!..
- Daniela (8/5): - I liked the unique build of the hotel and the meet room I stayed in.
- Klaus (8/5): - Im großen und ganzen okay ,war ja auch schon dass vierte Mal hier, alles gut weiter so
- Tami Leigh (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay here! It is so quiet & peaceful. The hotel is also very convenient to the train station as well as markets and a couple of nice restaurants! I highly recommend this hotel.
- TH F (10/5): Aanbevolen!
- IAN (8/5): - great place to stay
- Julian (8/5): Good in parts - Chosen because conveniently situated for our cvisit to family. Also it's near the U-Bahn. Mostly friendly staff though one was a little brusque when we pointed out their coffee machine was broken. Staff take smoking breaks immediately outside main entrance hence a constant smell of cigarette smoke in the foyer area. In the room we would have liked coffee/tea facilities and a clothes hook in the bathroom. Oh, and at least one BBC channel on the TV/Radio would have been handy; all other countries were represented. WiFi kept dropping frequently.
- Mercedes (10/5): - Excellent location !!!!
Clean, nice big rooms. Breakfast was incredible. Great price. The employees very helpful !!!
- Tyson (10/5): - Helpful, friendly staff, and a clean, comfortable room. Also waived a late check-out fee, given that I woke up late, and forgot that the checkout time was 11am. Thanks!
- Bernd (10/5): - Management was patient and professional. I particularly appreciated that management was understanding in regards to a payment issue that arose due to someone attempting to perpetrate identity theft against me when I first traveled to Germany in August.
I also enjoyed the breakfast buffet. But then again I always enjoy a breakfast consistent with German cultural practices!!
- Steen (8/5): - Fint hotel og rigtig god morgen mad til en god pris
- Anni (8/5): - Meget specielt i disse Coronatider.
Ingen gæster og morgenmaden var en pose med sandwich, kage, æble og juice. Fri kaffe i restauranten.
Bøvl med nettet på grund af for mange enheder - vel normalt man har telefon og computer med, når det er et arbejdsophold
Gode gratis parkeringsmuligheder ved hotellet
- Viktorija (10/5): Great Hotel ! - Everything was perfect, as expected 😊
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I bought a package with Expedia of flights and hotel. Flights were cancelled but Expedia and Hotel refused refund on Hotel room. Really poor. Hope Expedia go bust.
- Matteo (6/5): - Prenotato doppia con matrimoniale. Mi hanno dato una singola con letto singolo.
- Verified traveler (10/5): good for the price! - very friendly staff, the room is very spacious. supermarket is just downstairs, public transport is convenient as well.
- Fatemeh (8/5): Convenient place close to the airport - A large room close to the airport and both the bus and ubahn station. The check in process was a bit slow, but all in all was good.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Convenient location for public transport to and from airport and underground.
Buffet somewhat disappointing...ran out of options an hour before official end of breakfast serving. Room refreshment stock not replaced daily.
- Stephanie (10/5): Great hotel stay - Very good hotel, with friendly staff, available to answer any questions 24/7. Breakfast was great with many options to choose from, hot & cold buffet.
Close to public transport and the airport.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The hotel was fine and clean. Not bad for the price but we felt we were a nuisance to the staff. They were not helpful at all!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good, clean hotel. Excellent value for money. Very convenient for Tegel airport
- Joe (10/5): - Room was clean, affordable, included a balcony, and the staff was friendly. Very close bus stop to the Tegel (TXL) airport.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Interior a bit older. Carpet in the sleeping area and tiles in the bathroom were in bad condition, here you could spend some time to give the room a new shine. The exterior color balcony should be renewed.
Which in my opinion is a very important point are the room key. Here I would recommend a KeyCard system because keys are far too complicated to handle.
- Ela (8/5): - The hotel room was cery comfortable, although I found the lighting insufficient: there was a little desk with no direct daylight. I had to use my portable reading light in order to write some postcards or take notes in my journal. That’s a bit ridiculous. The lamps over the bed were also inappropriate as reading lights. During my stay wifi didn’t work in the room. This was hopefully a temporary issue. Otherwise the staff were great, the bathroom was v clean. I would definitely recommend it for a budget stay in Berlin. The hotel location is also great, a couple minutes walk to line U7, walking distance to several museums around Charlottenburg castle, not to mention the park and a nice riverside walk.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid - Much better choices in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - My room was all the way on the end of a long hallway and I heard every movement in the Treppenhaus. The heat could not be turned all the way off, so my room was a bit stuffy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Location - We love the location. It’s a perfect location if you have an early morning flight from Berlin Tegel Airport. The bus stop is direct in front of the hotel. So you don‘t need to drag your luggage much. Just conveniently take the bus to the airport. The hotel staffs are nice and helpful but the room condition is old. The hotel needs a makeover.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love the price, breakfast, the staff. The rooms are great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location with buses, trains & trams all in a short walking distance from the hotel. Easy to get to all parts of Berlin from here. Lots to do in Charlottenburg within walking distance. Hotel itself was a little basic but pleasant. We arrived early but they had a secure luggage room we could leave our stuff, water, hot drinks & fruit available & a pc with printer we could use & a bar we could access. The bar was very expensive. Staff also offered maps & discount offers for many museums and cultural points of interest. Our room itself was very simple however considering it was on a main road it was very quiet, warm & safe.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel in great location for us, would highly recommend
- Sabine (8/5): - The breakfast was very good. Room was clean. The aestetic of the room was not the most pretty
- Eero (10/5): Good stay - Nice room and good bed. Happy to stay here again. Only negative is very slow WiFi.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The communal/bar area could have been bigger lack of seats
- Ariel (6/5): - The hotel is kind of old now, the staff not really friendly
- Alexander (8/5): - Budget hotel for short stay in Berlin. Parking needs to requested before arrival.
- Rajasooriyar (8/5): - I really loved the environment and of the course the place
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Bed mattress very hard and no tea or coffee facilities in the room. There was a lot of road noise as I was near a smoking area. However staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to the places i needed do go to. Staff very helpful and pleasant at all times
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very good place for the money spent. The issue I saw regarding comfort was that the room was very warm due to the temperature outside and there was no airconditioning to compensate.
Very convenient place if you wanna be at the airport <15mins
- Diana (8/5): Good value - It was perfectly serviceable for the price, but nothing luxurious. Fine for my purposes, which were to catch an early morning flight out of Tegel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - In a convenient position for us for visiting family, This time we were disappointed. The weather was very, very hot and as there is no air con we asked for a fan. We were told all the fans had been taken. we had 2 children aged 5 and 10 and it was unbearable in our room. We managed to obtain one the next day but there should be a fan in every room as standard. (air con would be preferable)There are better value hotels and we will try one of those next time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff was excellent and very helpful with recommendations on places to eat. Would not mind staying here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfectly located, in front of The bus to the airport.
Bakery and grocery store at the foot of the hôtel.
- Randall (8/5): - The color of green on exterior walls is ugly and i was afraid i had bargained for a "dump". The lobby should be a brighter, warm color.
I loved everything about my room- the walls, draperies, instant hot water, several English speaking tv channels, comfort bed. The desk forgot to tell me that you have to signin to wifi each day. Wifi was good on my 3rd floor room, but i did have to reconnect each day.
Nice, professional staff.
Coffee should be available in the lobby sooner than 11am, say 6 or 7am .
- Serkan (10/5): Nice place to stay in Berlin - We were given one of the kid friendly room and it was amazing for kids. Beds were very comfortible. We found everything we expected from a hotel. There is supermarket just underneath the hotel and metro connection is only 200mt away.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good buffet breakfast, adequate room and friendly staff.
The corridors, stairs, lifts are a little tired and need a refresh. There was also repair work happening outside the entry and on pavements.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It's hard to rate!
The problem was I booked two rooms, one for my in laws and one for us, my husband and I. So the rooms were suppose to be rooms with queen or two twin beds for 4 adults. We did not check in at the same time. My in laws checked in first. So they gave my sister in law a very tiny room with two bunk beds, the two ladders stick out that they had no room to walk around. It’s obviously the kids’room. My sister complained and they replied the 2 bunk beds were for 4 people. My sister said we booked 2 rooms, not one room, and we think the staff were well aware of that because we showed them the paper printed from Expedia which showed very clear: bedroom 1, bedroom 2. But they did not exchange the room for my inlaws.
When my husband and I came to check in around 7pm, the staff knew better to give us a nice room just like picture on our reservation. And by the time we heard from our sister and visit her room that we knew they were treated unfairly, it’s too late, since we only had a few hours more before leaving.
At the check out early morning, when I returned the key, the lady staff just demanded firmly “37 euro!” without giving any details about that charge. I said “I paid everything upfront at the time I reserved.” She stated short and strong again “No, 37euro!” I refused again, repeated the same reason. Then she said she’ll check and looked in the computer in front of her then said “ya, right, sorry”. I suspected that she did this with many guests.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Breakfast was brilliant. Looks rundown from the outside
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I have nothing bad to say at all about anything in this hotel...super clean...amazing staff...great service...i am absolutely positive my next stay in berlin will be at the hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quiet location and great for public transport links. Handy for airport transfer and great Italian restaurant near by.
- Jad (4/5): - Property was functional and well equipped. The issue is the room stank of smoke to the point that all my clothes smelt the same. After two days, I noticed that the worst area was the toilet, and the shower curtain was potentially the fixer of the smell. Very disappointing to have that in a non smoking room.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very basic and dated room.
Nice staff at the reception.
Close to the airport but far from the city attractions.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice experience all round. It was lovely to arrive and get in from the cold and wet, nice and warm inside and very pleasant reception staff. The room was spotless and bed so comfortable with nice bedding. The hotel is very stylish and clean and so peaceful, once in my room i heard no disturbing noise, inside or even from the street, and must not forget the freat choice of buffet breakfast.
- Abc (6/5): - Excellent location. Small dated room with no kettle. Nothing like the photographs. Very good shower. Convenient supermarket outside and bus direct to airport. Have to keep logging into WiFi, which is very slow at night. Convenient printer as seemed to always need to print tickets instead of showing on phone. Good free luggage room and fast checkout.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The wifi is too slow.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great Room close to airport picked up by bus right in front.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Superb location for family. Local grocery store and some tasty restaurants. Great transport links. Definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Terrible customer service for the staff counter - who never respect Q system. She served customer who came after me and I am just like transparent object standing in front of her.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hotel some staff were very helpful. Easy access to public transport
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It's very near the tegel airport. Check in was easy and quick. It'll be better if there are more power points and if they can do something about one of the lights that isn't functioning well.
- ClaudiaOxee (2/5): - We arrived on Monday night, Nov. 12th. Check-in agent was extremely uncaring and not helpful to us considering it was late, we were tired from driving from Ingolstadt (five hours), It was raining and there was no clear signage re: parking.. When I asked agent, he was rude and unclear. Once we drove down into the garage, again, there was no signage re: entrance to hotel with all our luggage. We carried everything up, two flights of stairs to the lobby. We complained about lack of communication. By then, there was another agent. He too was rude. Neither one of these men had the professionalism and courtesy required to be at the front desk for welcoming guests!
- Maureen (6/5): - The staff was competent but not friendly. The room was small and bathroom was tiny. May be ok for one person there on business.
We only stayed there because it was the closest hotel to our children.
- Eloco (6/5): - Looked way better in pictures. We booked the comfort room which starts on 3rd floor but we were given the room on floor 2. I doubt we got the comfort room. Very small bathroom and toilet. No hotel car park. Parking in the street if you can find one. Goodluck to that. Staff Ok types
- Sam (8/5): - Good hotel. Perfect location: walking distance to the palais and several museums.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Convenient and close location to/from Tegel airport. Mark, at the front desk, was very helpful and welcoming. He also helped us book a cab to pick us up in the morning so we could get to the airport. Rooms were very clean and beds comfortable. Simple hotel and good price.
- Chien Ling (8/5): - everything is good but facility is a bit old...
- Christopher (10/5): - Amazing hotel in a great spot to explore the city. The staff was very helpful! Would definitely stay here again
- Kevin (8/5): - I stayed here in August 2018. Nice hotel - clean rooms but super soft pillows which are not my favorite. Very handy location on X9 bus line from Tegel airport. The bus stops right at the hotel. There is a bike rental who is linked to hotel and I got a nice bike for 5€/day. Parts of Berlin I was interested in are flat as a pancake so cycling around is great. Restaurant at hotel served great schnitzel.
- deb (10/5): Great hotel location staff very friendly helpful - Enjoyed our stay great breakfast near metro station good quiet location and quiet room on back would recommend
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, nice staff, right next to a grocery store as well. Only thing that was a hard part was finding parking on the street.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome hotel! - We were on a family trip around Europe and had a wonderful experience at the Econtel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, room very clean and breakfast (22 Euros for the family of 4!) very good. We'll definitely stay there again.
- Boris (8/5): - Great location, 3min to metro and always easy to find free public parking. Big supermarket downstairs and many restaurants around. Clean rooms but small shower. Minibar only in business rooms and up, got free upgrade to that. Bit 80’s style but modernized.
Haven’t tried restaurant and breakfast.
Quiet at night, if you’re into Berlin streets nightlife maybe go for more central spots.
All in all good for my liking.
- Chris (8/5): Good location - A great spot very close to Tegel which was our primary purpose with an early flight and rental to return. That said, had a great walk along the river to Charlottenburg Palace followed by dinner just across the river - all a very close walk. The room was all we needed, compact and very clean
- Vicky (6/5): Ok, a bit dated- but it was far too hot! - Pretty small room, a bit 90s in decor but it was fine, pillows not so great, no fridge in room (you have to pay extra, even in the comfort rooms, even in a heat wave). Key entry was old fashioned (but at least it worked) and our door was a bit tricky, so I was glad I had hubby with me! My big grumble is that we were staying in the middle of a heatwave and there was no Aircon or fans in the rooms, so it was unbearable. There was aircon in the restaurant, but it wasn't on, which is unacceptable. It did seem to be working in the ladies loos in the restaurant. On the plus side, the room was clean, the shower was good, and the bed would have been comfortable had it been less hot. You could at least open a window, so that helped a bit, and I appreciate Aircon is a lot of money to install, but I do think when it's so unusually hot, the hotel could get some fans and offer them to customers! Or maybe offer a complimentary bottle of water instead of still insisting on payment for those in rooms when it's this bad- or offering a fridge. I did see the free tea and coffee in the foyer, but water is a basic requirement in this heat. Breakfast was pretty good, but it did cost 11 euros a head, having eaten in several places nearby, I think it was a bit overpriced. I think I wouldn't stay again to be honest, unless there was some investment in the hotel first, although the location is convenient for me and it was clean, so I wouldn't say I'd never go back.
- Linda (10/5): - Great hotel near all the tourist sites. I'm glad it was only for one night though because the room would have been too small for our family of four (two adults, two teenagers); it was okay for one night though. Close to a grocery store and restaurants, also quick trip to the airport (Tiegel). Easy parking on the street. Room was clean except for mildew in the shower. The shower also did not have a pan to contain the water, so water spread out over the floor and was messy.
- Lupipe (2/5): - This review is solely based on other comperable hotels based on price range without comparing to upscale hotels. Reception tried to upsell on a breakfast, I had declined and asked for a fan because rooms do not have AC, the receptionist wanted me to go and find it myself. Along with other issues I had, reception made no effort in helping or assisting.
The rooms smell like damp old towels or like the carpet had not been washed in years. Based on the pictures the hotel rooms look nothing like what was advertised. PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED! The bathroom is incredibly small and narrow. The beds and pillows were extremely uncomfortable. The room was hot due to the lack of AC and ventilation system, even though outside it was windy and cool. It’s an outdated hotel that for the price is not worth it. For $40 more, I would’ve upgraded to a upscale hotel chain.
- Troy (6/5): Budget Hotel - Everything about the hotel is what you expect. Nothing fancy but still a good place to stay on a budget. However when we arrived they had overbooked the room we requested and the only room they had with two beds was a downgraded room. Overall the stay was fine other then the room downgrade.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was very close to bus stops so makes it convenient to get to. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. The room was small but clean and comfortable.
- Elizabeth (6/5): Convenient hotel. - The beds were a little hard, the room a little warm, but location and breakfast were great.
- Charl (4/5): Maybe for locals or one nighters... - I wasn’t thrilled that there was no kettle in the room - there is a ‘coffee stand’ open until 4pm and that’s all the way down at reception.
The view wasn’t great which isn’t their fault, but we overlooked the kitchen roof which was open, and I was woken every single morning to the sound of cutlery being dropped etc.
The door to the bathroom is a slightly frosted glass door, which is AWFUL when sharing a room. You can see everything. Not only is there this, there is very little ventillation, so the bathroom smells abit stale.. btw, if you like a towel bigger than a napkin, take your own!
In the bedroom there is no main light, only one by the door which means you have to use the extremely bright over-head-on-the-bed lamps to see anything - not good.
Ontop of this, the lack of plug sockets, particularly around the bed, is very Nineties (in which i mean ‘none-existent’).
Last but not least, the breakfast is VERY expensive for what it is. 11€ pppd. They have a mix of childrens cereal, very tiny plates, and a small mixture ‘breakfast foods’. However, if you are concerned with vegetarianism or veganism, you won’t want the mixed breakfast foods. E.g., the beans are kept infront in the same drop bit as the hot dog sausages in water so the beans taste like hot dog water. The eggs are boiled and unwashed, therefore boiled and the shell is covered in bird poop.
Seriously seriously underwhelmed by this whole hotel and it’s a shame because the staff are SO nice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful place.I highly recommended this hotel clean and staff very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hotel.lovely powerful shower.was really impressed actually.good location from tegel airport.
The staff could of been a bit more pleasant in the morning when I checked out.the lady had a real strop with me I think
- Arkadiusz (8/5): Check in anytime and have comfortable stay - Was travelling back from Poland to Switzerland and had to do a stop over in the middle of the night. Surprisingly few hotels do 24 hour check in so we decided to give Econtel a try. We did not regret it as we were check in with ease and up in our room within a few minutes. Nothing fancy about the room but bed was comfortable and allowed us to get the rest we needed to continue our trip. Hotel is right beside a grocery store which allowed us to grab a few snack items and is also near the main area of Berlin where all the restaurants are.
- Paul (8/5): - Pluses: convenient location, comfy bed and pillow, clean room and bathroom, easy access from TXL airport, stores and small restaurants in the area, quiet neighborhood
Minuses: no ac, no water kettle or coffee maker
Good for SHORT stay, especially between flights (TXL Airport)
- Gang (10/5): Choose Econtel in Berlin for location and quiet. - We made a specific trip from Hamburg to Berlin after our MSC cruise to admire that great city. Our choice of this hotel was right for us, not only in terms of its great location from public transportation by U train but also in terms of a feel of safety in that area.
- Christopher (10/5): Comfortable and nicely situated - The hotel was clean, well maintained and comfortable, with very helpful staff
It's close to Mierendorffplatz U-bahn, there are places to eat and Charlottenburg Schloss is nearby. I definitely recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Never again - This hotel has nothing within walking distance, except a supermarket. You have to take the bus or train every where. While most European hotel rooms are small the restroom was extremely small. It was uncomfortable taking a shower because you have no room to move. Also the shower curtain was not long enough or strong enough. Water constantly got on the floor when taking a shower. The receptionist whether male or female were not friendly at all. I would never go back nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Marti (8/5): Good value for money - This hotel is really good value for money and was conveniently located walking distance from a course I attended. The area is a bit suspect and I was nervous to walk at night. Any restaurants are a bit of a walk away. The breakfast in the hotel was good and the staff very friendly and helpful.
- Primavera (10/5): Good for a stay before flying out of TXL - Very comfortable, clean and economic place without much ado, when you goal is to have a place to sleep because you are strolling Berlin anyway or you have to have a stopover before flying out of TXL, which is 15 min by bus. They even have a bar!
- S (8/5): Considered a good hotel - Located in a quiet residential area with good access to bus to kurfersedamm and u-bahn to many places. Direct bus access from Tegel airport. There's 2 asian eateries nearby and a large supermarket next to hotel. No kettle provided in room.
- Loren (6/5): You won't love it, you won't hate it. - There is absolutely nothing fancy or special about this hotel, but it has all the basic necessities including a 2-minute walk to the U-Bahn and a decent breakfast.
- Frank (8/5): Nice and close to the airport. - It’s a little short on places to eat. There was not much variety in the types of food.
