We were upgraded on arrival due to a fellow guest on the floor below having just had surgery and the hotel staff wanted to assist with a quiet recovery which tells you how much they care about guest comfort. We were on the 16th floor. Rooms were extremely generous in size, very comfy and all staff incredibly helpful. Andy the Bellmen was a highlight, helping us out everyday with great ideas and places to go. Truly enhanced our NY experience. Everything was an easy walk from the hotel, restaurants, attractions, subway entrances….a real breeze to find our way around. - JRuggs1955 (10/5): Our best NYC hotel experience. - We had a four-night stay in an Executive Junior Suite Queen. It was a quiet, comfortable room with plenty of space. The kitchenette was very handy with fresh bottles of water every morning. The location is within walking distance of MOMA, the Frick, other museums, and Broadway, as well as multiple dining locations. The attached restaurant, Spice Symphony, has excellent food and a lunch special that is well worth the price. The staff is extremely friendly. and helpful. We hope to return here the next time we visit NYC.

- Explorer760206 (10/5): Great stay 8/10 - xmas & newyear - We stayed in san carlos hotel over xmas and newyear me, myself and my sister in law in a double Queen room for 10 nights on our trip to newyork. 10/10 for the hotel staff was really helpful from start too end including the bell men who helped with our cases & arranging transport from the hotel too JFK airport, even after being delayed and no extended check out available they offered floor 2 & the gym too freshen up. 8/10 for the room, no window to open which made the room quite stuffy/ no kitchenette, no kettle apart from a poor quality coffee machine, iron was also quite poor. Walls are also quite thin as we could hear next doors TV blaring at early hours. Great location about 45/60 min drive too JFK, quiet area, 15/20 walk too times square, convenience store on the bottom off the road and also next door too McDonalds, facing is a really good bagel restraunt - recommend All round great trip and would definite stay in the hotel again.

I decided to take a chance and booked San Carlos Hotel after reading the reviews. My husband and I were traveling with another couple and booked 2 rooms. We were not disappointed. San Carlos exceeded our expectations. The hotel was a short (5 min.) walk from GCS. It was close to Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center and Time Square. The hotel was immaculate, the room spacious and the staff was friendly. It not will be my go to hotel when visiting the city!

The staff was so friendly, especially the guy who checked us in (I didn't get his name). Location is right near Radio city and St. Patrick's Cathedral and Rockerfeller Center. We walked just about everywhere. We had them hold our luggage since we had a later flight and Bobby was very friendly. I'd definitely stay here again while in NYC.

Hotel is in a great location, plenty of places to eat nearby and close to Rockefeller Center. While the room was a bit dated, it was large and very clean. The staff were very friendly. The thing that stood out the most was the incredible staff. CARLOS WAS A TOTAL HERO!!! We arrived after a long flight with our 4 children only to find I had booked the hotel for 2026 and arrived a year early!! Carlos went above and beyond to help us and sort out the situation all while not making me feel like a total idiot for making the mistake. He really did make our stay in New York memorable when it could have been a disaster, we are so grateful.

- Meander35665307545 (4/5): Not good for light sleepers - The rooms were nice and the beds were comfortable. At prime sleeping hours (9:30-10:30) there was a constant rolling sound coming from the walls. It was impossible to sleep hearing the sound coming through the walls or the ceiling. The walls are paper thin. If you are a light sleeper I would recommend not staying on the second floor. Maybe request a higher floor. If you are a deep sleeper it may not be a problem.

From the warm welcome when we arrived, to the incredibly central location with everything within walking distance, it made our stay perfect. The room was outstanding and the service was truly incredible. If I could give it ten stars, I would.

Pema, one of the housekeepers, and Candace at the reception/check-in desk, were particularly helpful. Was quiet all night outside our room and only minimal noise in hall during morning/daytime. Excellent location and excellent price. Only downside is their parking is 3 blocks away, in a garage next to Memorial Sloan Kettering. I suspect other hotels in the area also don’t have attached parking garages—because the parking garage had a list of several hotels who validate parking in that garage for their guests. Anyway, it was only a minor inconvenience—we would stay here again, in a heartbeat!!
- 171iani (10/5): A hotel with a great location with excellent staff service - We booked San Carlos after our Sonder accommodation was cancelled the night before we were due to travel to New York. Thankfully, the San Carlos was available and we are so glad it was. From our arrival to our departure the staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble for them. We had a Premier Room for 3 of us, which included our 18 years old son, who was very comfortable sleeping on the sofa bed. The room also had a separate toilet as well as the main bathroom. The room was spacious, very clean and whilst not modern, it had the charm of a New York hotel. The location is perfect to visit New York, near to many of the main locations with a subway walking distance away. Nearby, there are plenty of places to eat for breakfast like Slate, there is no shortage of choice. We eat at nearby Club A Steakhouse which was excellent. We also travelled to the Tribeca area and eat at Gigino Trattoria for a family celebration with friends based in New York which was another amazing evening. Overall, San Carlos was perfect for us and gave us everything we needed and more.

The staff were lovely they were so friendly & helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was clear & welcoming, they put a kettle in our room as my mum doesn’t drink coffee and a coffee machine is in the room. The room was cleaned daily too which was nice. This was a great base to all the attractions we went to, we walked to most and was able to get the subway or uber to others. Would definitely stay again & would recommend to those looking to be close to all the sites but not in the thick of it.

It was a 24-minute walk to our Broadway show. It was a 12-minute walk to Grand Central. There were quite a few restaurants and coffee shops right around that neighborhood.

Our son stayed with us two nights on the sofa bed. It was comfortable. Everything was clean and we had plenty of room. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had to leave very early, and the bellman walked a block over and hailed us a cab at 6 a.m.

- 546paulg (10/5): Perfect for a family on a budget. - We are a family on a budget. The San Carlos was just perfect for what we wanted. It is a great location in Midtown New York, walkable to most places and surrounded by useful Metro stops if not. Also some good room options. We have four of us, and our kids are adult sized. So we chose a one bedroom suite (room 801) with extra for a rollaway bed and it was perfect. We have a fridge and a microwave and a kettle and a coffee machine and so we could mix how we ate. Their customer service is excellent, as in if we called for help we got it within minutes. The beds were comfortable and for the price we paid we have no complaints. Is it perfect? No. But you don’t get perfection for what we were able to pay. But it was clean, and good size, and worked well for us. I thoroughly recommend it.

The staff are always so friendly, the rooms large for city standards and the location can’t be beat for all NYC activities. The beds are so comfortable and the bedding really nice. Somehow we have always gotten upgraded to a room with a kitchenette and good coffee and coffee maker provided. We will always try to stay here on future travels to NYC.

He also said that since I was on 12th floor, I shouldnt hear much. Wrong. Garbage trucks, people yelling in the streets, sirens, you name it. Eh. Will stay in luxury hotel next time.

- TRS1952 (10/5): This hotel is an upmarket experience for the choosy, with average deep pockets. - My wife and I are staying in NY before we go on our cruise from Manhattan. We needed a centralised hotel but without paying the $1000 dollar per night price tag that is very easily reached here. We finally chose the San Carlos hotel Which was $450 a night. Now we can afford this but we usually would pay perhaps only half this rate in the UK. So how does this price fit? The San Carlos is classed as a 4* hotel and is situated right in the heart of Manhattan on 150/50th close to Lexington Ave just round the corner from the Waldorf Hotel. It does not have a gym, or a restaurant, or a roof top bar. But who needs them when breakfast can be had across the road at a very reasonable price or dinner next door at one of the best Chinese/ Indian restaurants in New York. In this part of town there are bars a plenty so the any perceived loss, is very easily mitigated. The reception is excellent and efficient and makes you very welcome. All the staff including doorman are well versed in looking after you and make you feel that you are staying in a special hotel in a special place. Questions on how to get around NY and where to go, are answered expertly. We have never used the underground in NY, but with the help of the Concierge at the hotel we felt comfortable to try it and it worked well for us. The rooms are large and airy clean and have all the amenities that you expect from a 4* hotel. We had all that we needed for our short stay, but I am confident that if we did need something then the hotel would endeavour to provide it. The beds are firm and comfortable but too large for us making you feel like a pea on a drum lost for the arms of a partner. The internet is excellent with easy access. My only criticism is that the room only has on easy chair and tiny side table. I would have expected easy chairs and there is room for another. However, it’s a three day stay, and I am confident if I asked the hotel for another chair then they would oblige. There is no view from our room window, but it was not required on our stay. So if it’s a central hotel at mid price in New York that you seek and you are happy enough to find food and recreation outside of the hotel, then this is the place. It’s an upmarket experience for the choosy, with an average deep pocket. Within two min you are the Subway ( Underground )

- Z5714VVjohnm (6/5): Not a great experience with additional charges - Although hotel is listed as a 4* it had no restaurant or bar area, there was an asian restaurant next door with access from the hotel that was fairly busy with take aways. Staff there were nice enough just not what we were looking for. There is a facility charge of $35 per day even though we are tourists and this would appear to be for business users no opt out here you have to pay whether you use the facility or not, bit of a rip off we thought, given that they were citing the use of a fax machine and gym area with 2 bottles of water, just appeared as another way to gain more money from the tourists, arrived after 23.50 on the first day out all the next day and left before 10am on the last day.

The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The location was excellent for both Broadway theaters and Central Park. Good selection of restaurants and shops are nearby. The location is walking distance from many of Manhattan’s most popular tourist attractions Grand Central Station, Empire State for example. The diner across the street is a great place to start your day off with a good breakfast. The only thing I wished I had done was to speak to the house keeping staff to stop letting the doors slam as they cleaned. Once or twice, sure, but 30-40 times in an hour was way too much annd we couldn’t sleep in. We only said something on the last day, and it was handled immediately, but it shouldn’t have been happening in the first place. We would absolutely stay here again. The noise took nothing from our stay.

The queen-bed size room with kitchenette is small, very small considering the photo that is shown as representing this room. The kitchenette is basically an area of about 3 feet wide with tiny microwave, coffee/tea maker with supplies, and a small refrigerator with tiny freezer. The only drawer contains supplies for meals for 2 people. It works but is very basic. Sometimes housekeeping staff replaced used plates, cups, and flatware with clean ones, but one day the staff just left them for me to wash. New coffee pouches were not replaced, body wash was out and not replaced for 3 days, no bath mat for one day, and no one had cleaned under the bed before my arrival - I found used slippers and one sock remained under the bed for my 6-day stay.

Our family and friends visit on an extended Labor Day weekend and we no longer even consider looking for any other hotel. All city transportation is close by, also it’s so conveniently located that private transportation (Uber,Lyft or taxi) are reasonably priced to anywhere in Manhattan and Queens for US open and airport. The staff was attentive and rooms were cleaned daily. The hotel is in an excellent location. Subway trains are very close by and is walking distance to Rockefeller Center and Grand Central Station. There are also several affordable places to eat close by. If you want a great cup of coffee, Manhattan Espresso Cafe is right behind the hotel. New York Luncheonette is right across the street. Ess-a-bagel and Metro Marche are within a block. All are excellent.

The rooms have air con and the staff are great. The kitchenette was so useful, with the coffee machine, fridge and microwave.

The location is unbeatable – just a short walk to iconic sights, yet tucked away enough to feel calm and welcoming after a day in the city. Our room was immaculately clean, spacious (a rare luxury in NYC!), and had that “welcome home” feeling you can’t fake. The beds were incredibly comfortable – the kind you melt into after walking the streets of New York all day. The staff were the real highlight. From the front desk to housekeeping, everyone was warm, professional, and genuinely eager to help. They went out of their way to accommodate our needs. We also appreciated the little touches the quiet atmosphere despite being in Midtown, and the attention to detail that made everything feel cared for. If you’re looking for a place that combines location, comfort, and exceptional service without the chaos of a huge hotel, San Carlos Hotel should be at the top of your list. We can’t wait to come back!

- Jennifer (10/5): - The hotel is in a great location. The rooms are comfortable, but show a little wear and tear like peeling wall paper, old carpet, etc. Overall, the rooms are clean and the bed was so comfortable. I would stay here again.

The subway was 1 block away which made our overall trip very easy to navigate. We would stay at the San Carlos again.
