Impossible to drive into the parking and every time someone has to inform the staff in the lobby so security opens the door for the parking. Having said that staff were lovely and kind.

- 973haliman (2/5): Not worth it - Upon check in, the lady at the reception was very rude but we let it slide, my friend and I as I just come from the hospital from a major surgery. Then the room I was assigned, where do I begin. It was dirty, had cockroach poop on the bathroom sink which by the way was also clogged it filled up after just washing hands. Then the small mini fridge had a masked smell and wasn’t even on. Lastly we asked whether it was a smoking room, not to smoke but rather to move to a non smoking because we couldn’t put it with the perfume that was used to hide the smell of tobacco. To our surprise the guy attending to the rooms just replied that we can smoke no issues. The bath tab looked like it wasn’t cleaned prior to us checking in. I was so disappointed over all.

Finally, no one opened the door When they open, the parking lot is very small with limited access. No one is responsible for the lobby department. - TheAdimondo (4/5): Poor and blatantly greedy Egyptian-Indian Management - Stayed there twice, end of January/beginning of February and end of February. They state 4 stars, but I confirm it is a low level 3 stars hotel. Management is Egyptian-Indian and the quality of the rooms and services is accordingly. As the Chinese saying goes, fish stinks from the head. The hotel caters mainly for lower middle class Indians. The check-in at my 2nd stay was pure disaster. Arrived at 1pm. Oficial check-in time was 2pm. So the let me wait one hour. At 2pm they still weren’t able to check me in. They were overtaxed with groups of Indians. Had to leave in order to do my errands. Deposited my luggage and returned at 7pm at which time I still had to wait until the check-in procedure had been carried out completely. Definitely not a 4 stars hotel. Room was basicly clean, however not spotless clean – filthy carpets and couches, hair threads in the bathroom. Sink and bathtub were clogged. Remote control for the TV-set was missing. Poor reception of TV-channels. Lots of channels from the list on the bedside table were missing alltogether. The connection point between shower head and hose was leaky. Talked the snags with the reception staff point by point. They managed to fix them partially. After switching off the TV-set the screen showed a blue display which disappeared only after about 2 hours – hard to fall asleep under such circumstances. Didn’t have any breakfast, however had a stroll around the buffet: cheap products, smell was unbearable. Had a guest for short time on my room and they levied a visitor charge of 200 AED (55 USD) which in my opinion is sheer blatant greediness and reflects the criminogenic energy of the management. Rest rooms in the lobby area are a disaster: clogged and dirty WCs, no soap, water supply let to desire, water taps defect. My suggestion is to use the toilets on the rooftop. Staff was courteous, however not all of them were well trained. Asked the concierge to arrange a restaurant reservation for me and he was simply incapable to tackle it. He had obviously difficulties with tipping Latin letters. Reception assisted with the task. On the 5th floor there’s Tehran Club and a bar which are frequented by hordes of Iranian and Central Asian prostitutes, their pimps and clients. Acccordingly, there’s a brisk trade in the lobby and in the lifts during literally every night of the week.

The pool area was pleasant. Breakfast was good and the Indian buffet dinner had a good selection of dishes. Nice coffe in the coffee shop although a little expensive. I would happily return.

The bathroom was terrible to say the least, mould all over, if we had being staying more than one night we would have changed hotels. The breakfast did not cater for international or European guests. - B3333 (2/5): Cockroaches... really - Cockroaches at the bar and floors, human hair in the bathtub, dirty smell, very slow response and checking, too busy to clean the room are some of the bad experience i encountered during my four-night stay at this hotel. Despite their action to correct these issues, still you cannot fix which is unfixable especially the part of watching a cockroach climbing all the way up to the peanuts dish (I got the video to prove it) and despite the call to the bartender to check and see and the attempts of the manager to ask me to delete the video but i could not keep shut with all respect to the staff. i think this hotel needs truly a new hotel. you can live with some insects on the floor or walls but when it comes to food and health a person cannot stay shut. Having a dirty room and complaining where the staff try to find you a better room is a normal thing but the new room got cockroaches is a bit unhealthy and i agreed to put everything behind me and move on to another bigger room despite lacking the little details. But watching a cockroach climbing and ending up in the peanut's dish is unacceptable because usually having one member of the cockroach family scouting means other members of the family are nearby. Dubai is famous for its organization, strict rules and regulations and of course caring about the health of people and this is what makes Dubai unique but how can a hotel such as this be like this in a beautiful city like Dubai. If you cannot clean your hotel then don't open to public. I wish the hotel would accept my criticism and fix it.

- 392adamb (2/5): ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! Not recommended at all - I rarely submit a negative review because I try to see the positives in a situation. The hotel is in a good location with plenty of restaurants, supermarkets & nightclubs in the area. There is a nightclub on the ground floor of this building which makes it very noisy. Planes fly LITERALLY just metres above the roof which makes it quite deafening. The hotel is very old and run down and needs serious updating. The furniture is old and chipped. The photos are NOT accurate! The drain in my bathroom basin was blocked did not work. They said they would fix it immediately and I waited almost five hours until 2am for it to be fixed. There was a 4-metre patch of carpet in the hallway that was absolutely saturated. Two telephones in my room and neither of them worked. They were kind enough to offer me a 1pm checkout then they started calling me at 12:15 telling me to get out of the room . The hotel is a DUMP! I only stayed one night because I was in transit between China and Oman. I wanted to be close to Dubai and Sharjah airports. I would not recommend this hotel for a stay of more than one night. JUST DON'T DO IT!

- Aimy (2/5): - I want to start by saying that this was booked by Expedia and was meant to be with breakfast which I paid extra for but when the confirmation came it was without breakfast. It definitely did not mention that it was 3PM check in time because had I known this prior to my arrival I would not have booked this property. Our flight was an early morning one and when we arrived they told us that we couldn’t check in until 3PM nor did they have “any available rooms” that we could purchase even though we should have been a complimentary one seeing as we were leaving at midnight the night we was leaving. The staff did not care that we had just got off a flight and made us sit in the waiting area for number of hours before we finally got our room. They wouldn’t declare the difference in price for with or without breakfast and had no idea how it could have happened. There was many other people in similar situations as a lot of them were in the waiting area.. check out time is also early so need to bear that in mind. Room card kept not working so daily had to go downstairs to make it work again. Terrible experience not sure how this is a 4* hotel.

I had problems in some other hotels in Dubai with the air condition blowing right onto my bed (and body), which makes me sick. In this one I never have this problem. And I sleep very well here.

- S (2/5): Terrible experience - When I got to the hotel after a long flight I found out that the air conditioning was off although it was 40 degrees outside I then switched it on only to find out that it was faulty The engineer cane to fix it but all night I could not sleep as the air conditioning was not working still I complained to the manager on the following morning but there was no apology nor did they refund my money

- Stephen (8/5): Good hotel, spacious room and ensuite - Very friendly and professional staff, huge bed and I'm 6'4. The ensuite bathroom was really big but could do with a deep clean around the tub and a lick of paint. I would hundred percent stay there again and recommend it to other travelers.

I would give it 5 out of 5 for everything, however, slight disappointment was the 100 AED entry fee to the Stars Studio club which was previously free.

- Theresa (Tracy) (8/5): Good Location; Friendly and Helpful Staff - I very much enjoyed my 4-night stay at the Grand Excelsior. The hotel is in a good location, well known to taxi drivers and only a 10-15 minute walk from a metro station. The Concierge and Front Desk were extremely helpful and there is a splendid breakfast on offer. I attend an annual event in the World Trade Centre, and have every intention of returning to the Grand Excelsior next year.

- John (4/5): An unfortunate choice of hotel - The hotel itself is nice. Clean, comfortable. The location of the hotel is the issue (at least for me). It's on the flightpath to Dubai airport and 24/7 there are airplanes flying no more than 500 feet over the hotel. The rooms are soundproof so it dampens considerably the noise; however, the pool is a rooftop one (and bears little resemblance to the photos) so you get the full brunt of an A380's 4 engines as it flies a couple of 100 feet over you (relaxing its not). The nightclub next door has music every night until 3am. Again, the soundproofing dampens a lot of the noise but you can still hear the boom boom boom!! There is nothing the hotel can do about it. It's entirely my own doing for not properly researching before I left. Anyway, if the above doesn't put you off, then I would recommend it especially if you like Indian food as there a loads of good non touristy restaurants within walking distance. I never once paid more than £10 for a really good meal.

- Andrew (8/5): excelsior exspensive - way over priced drinks £6 for a coke beers ranging from £10 a pint to £16 a pint (bottled beers) food is about the right price it is best to book packages rather than pay on the day staff are very helpful though, on a very poor note smoking is permitted in bars so when you get back to your room you will smell like an ash tray like it or not . Premiership football and champions league are shown in the sports bar but the satellite / cable channels in the rooms are a waste of time only bbc news 24 for uk viewers no pay per view available in rooms airport shuttle is 95 AED were a taxi is 25 AED overall a nice hotel its a little dated but comfortable. Meal packages are on a buffet basis you do get a varied selection at every sitting we had no issues with the food offered. The curries are very good but a bit on the spicy side. If you are thinking of hiring a car good luck you will need it the standard of driving is very poor my advice is stick to the taxis and just hold on.

- Viviana (8/5): Pleasant staff - I really miss the staff after leaving the hotel and going to Abu Dhabi. The hotel has a restaurant with buffet, room was comfortable including the bed. The location was easy to find and very fast ro get Uber. Lobby always clean.

- Thomas (10/5): Actually a good hotel at a reasonable price - I have been there for almost a month. I came to really like the staff and they were very helpful. The Manager for the reservations was able to accommodate all my requests, and the reception was good, and the staff in the lobby were also on the ball and helping out in things. The room comfort is really good and especially I was happy with the beds. Very nice to sleep in. The location is very close to the airport and one can reach Sharjah, Dubai Downtown, Airport, all in a short time. The surroundings are not so great, but one has a big supermarket, cheap food, and pretty much everything one needs to walking distance. If you don't want to spend the price of a nifty 5star luxury, this one has pretty much all one needs in a good standard, and one can afford to stay for a month without going broke.
