- Koidu (10/5): Friendly staff at a hotel with a great location! - A hotel in an excellent location, just a few minutes’ walk from Dam Square. The hotel has a beautiful garden that feels like an oasis. In the garden, there is the Oriole Garden Bistro restaurant. We ate there and really enjoyed the food. But the most pleasant part was the staff — very helpful and friendly!

- Patrick (10/5): Grand luxury and comfort in a quiet hotel in the historic center of Amsterdam - Everything went well. very comfortable stay with helpful staff I was in a room that was split level, so I didn't care for having to navigate going up steps in the dark at night to use the toilet.

Their restaurant, Oriole, is by far my favorite restaurant in Amsterdam, the food and atmosphere are outstanding. The breakfast is also excellent, with a great selection and high-quality products. I highly recommend this hotel for an unforgettable stay in Amsterdam.

The property is dated, poorly maintained, and far below the standards one would expect from this category. The rooms are plain and not particularly clean, while the minibar is practically empty. The bathroom is also disappointing, with very low-quality toiletries. Overall, there is a complete lack of the comfort and attention to detail that should define a true 5-star experience. The only positive aspect is the staff: at breakfast, Florin stands out for his professionalism and friendliness, and the reception team is also helpful and competent. A disappointing experience and not in line with expectations.

Perfect for a weekend getaway. I will definitely come back! Breakfast was very limited and did not serve hot food except for omelette. It was not worth €55 per person.

- sw0rdies (10/5): Period prestige with exceptional service - Fantastic location – everything is an easy walk. Service at this hotel is special, everyone operates at a high standard. From Andrei who checked us in to Jonathan the Concierge (he knows his stuff) to the lady in the bar (lives in Rotterdam), the French woman in the restaurant and the gentleman who controls the restaurants (what a character). The hotel is admittedly on the tired side, and a renovation has already commenced (albeit there is impact on guests). Having said that, the charm of the hotel and the size of the room work well add the overall experience. Every now and again there is a bit of a drain smell that wafts into the room but its brief and an open window resolves it quickly. The red light district is a couple of hundred metres down the road, but it doesn’t negatively impact the experience in any way. There are lots of food options and coffee shops nearby (speak to Jonathan). A recommendation is “Die Laaste Krummel” for breakie/ coffee/ cake. Also, the canal tour is a must. There is a good sauna and indoor pool if you have time and the main bar nice and you can order wine off any of the restaurant menus. Checkout was efficient. We caught an Uber to the airport and it cost us less than 30 Euros.

The hotel offers a fantastic location and an impressive building with rich history and architecture. What truly sets it apart is the team. From reception to the breakfast room, bar and spa, everyone was consistently friendly, helpful and professional. A few people stood out in particular: Lara at reception, who was always polite, warm and eager to assist; Esther from the breakfast team, who was delightful and offered great recommendations both for food and activities in the city; and Florin, the star of the breakfast team, whose positivity is contagious and who always goes above and beyond. Although I couldn’t catch the names of everyone I interacted with, every team member was smiling, attentive and helpful. The team is undoubtedly the hotel’s greatest asset. I highly recommend taking the breakfast: the food is fantastic and the selection is impressive. And don’t hesitate to ask for bubbles, as they serve a lovely Crémant. We also enjoyed the spa, which is relaxing and well equipped with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym. We were a group of four staying for a long weekend, and we will definitely be back.

Location is also excellent to explore the city and access public transport. We had a canal side room, I am a light sleeper and the constant noise from tourists woke me up several times. Our last day saw an influx of a conference who overtook every single lounge area leaving nowhere at all for us to sit which was unfortunate. We stayed in the Lodewijck Napoleon Suite. Very spacious. High ceilings, exposed beams, and a well thought-out layout. Separate living, dining, and sleeping areas make the suite feel more like an apartment than a hotel room. The bed was extremely comfortable. Bathrooms were generous and well equipped. Everything felt quiet and private. The butler service deserves special mention. Discreet, friendly, and genuinely helpful. Assistance with unpacking and packing our luggage was much appreciated and added a sense of ease to the stay. We also joined a short historical tour of the hotel, which was informative and well presented. A nice way to understand the building and its past without it feeling overly staged. Food and beverage were consistently strong. Breakfast via room service was of excellent quality. Well prepared, fresh, and delivered exactly as ordered. Dining at Bridges was another highlight. The signature menu was impressive, especially the fish filleted tableside. A rare touch these days and a clear sign of real culinary skill. We also enjoyed Afternoon Tea in the Library. The setting is beautiful and very relaxed. The quality of the food was excellent. The service, while friendly, could have been a bit quicker and better coordinated. Still, the overall experience was very positive. One small point for improvement would be the arrival and check-in process. All details had been provided in advance and our driver announced us ahead of arrival. A smoother in-suite check-in, allowing guests to go directly from the car to the room, would have felt more appropriate at this level and avoided waiting at reception. This is a minor note, but worth mentioning. Overall, a very pleasant and refined stay at The Grand. A hotel with character, strong service culture, and a clear sense of confidence. We would gladly return.
- TinaTeto (6/5): Very disappointing - Reading some of the tripadvisor reviews I wonder have I strayed into a parallel universe and stayed at a different hotel? While the hotel is perfectly serviceable, it is really nothing out of the ordinary. The staff were professional but not overly friendly. On most occasions they hardly acknowledged you walking through reception. The reception areas are nicely decorated but the corridors and rooms are tired, tired, tired. Our bathroom was quite stained and had an unpleasant aroma. The carpets were worn and the pillows only fit for the bin. Much is made of their cloud like beds and it was like sleeping in a marshmallow - but not in a good way. Far too soft. As I knew my husband would have to do some work when we were there I chose the hotel as it had a pool which I looked forward to using. I only used it once as it was so cold and the sauna was lukewarm at best - there was a steam room but no steam! The breakfast was one of the worst I have experienced in a 5 star hotel. Service was slow and when it arrived the food was cold. The buffet section was extremely basic and boring after a couple of days. I really wish we had made a better choice. If you are looking for some character in Amsterdam I am sure there are much better options.

The beds are super comfortable and I really like the overall decor of the hotel and the rooms. Food/beverages at the bars and restaurants are very good. The staff is super friendly, Mar at front desk is great! She made us feel welcome right from the start. I was worried about staying at a hotel so close to the city center and red light district, but the hotel is very quiet and you can really rest.

The hotel itself is fabulous, the food was top class and the service was spot-on from start to finish. Friendly, professional, and somehow always there exactly when you needed them — hospitality ninja skills. If this is how they treat business guests, I can only imagine how good a proper stay would be. Keep doing what you’re doing — you’ve nailed it. We always come to this hotel and have a great time. However, there are a few issues that need immediate attention: 1. Shower glass is getting old and water is invariably leaking out to fill the bathtub. 2. Terrible spa facility with broken jacuzzi, water jets in pool and lack of any attendant. 3. Despite a clear sign that kids can’t come to the pool after 6 pm. The pool is often filled with kids playing and shouting and splashing which is VERY disturbing. Despite alerting the front desk staff, NOTHING was done! 4. OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive for the value you get in return. These things have to be fixed ASAP

Beyond that, it is absolutely not up to Sofitel standards. The rooms are dated, the carpets are stained, and the bathroom has only one sink made of a kind of molded plastic that feels very low quality. The fridge motor is noisy. In addition, our room was not cleaned on January 17. It was only attended to at 6:30 p.m. after two reminders at reception—and when I say “cleaned,” only the towels were changed. The carpet was not vacuumed, the trash was not emptied, and the bed was carelessly made, without pulling the fitted sheet or fluffing the pillows. In short, the hotel has clear management and quality control issues. No commercial gesture was offered. Not even an apology at checkout. So I would advise you to stay away. It is expensive for what it is.

I happened to be alone this winter for my birthday and Christmas, and this was my first visit to Amsterdam. As an Accor Platinum, I got upgraded to a Junior Suite and tears literally filled my eyes when I saw the room and felt the most comfortable bed in existence!! Two windows show gorgeous views on the city and canal side. The staff made me feel at home from the first "Bonjour", and any requests were fulfilled quickly and with care. Location is great, I never needed a taxi or public transportation, very walkable! Also the hotel is incredibly safe with a solid gated entrance and round the clock security (and everyone knows your name by the second day :) I know how lucky I am to have had my first experience in this city in such a magnificent hotel, it will always hold a place in my heart and I wish so much to come back again one day soon.

The location is absolutely perfect—central to everything we wanted to see—but it was the service that truly stood out. The team was attentive, helpful, and offered incredibly warm hospitality throughout our visit. I’d like to give special commendations to several team members who made our stay memorable: - Mar at reception was excellent. - Kai and David at the concierge provided star-quality service. - Cecilia made our Afternoon Tea brilliant.
