Guest Reviews
- jmy (10/5): Génial 👍 - Très bon accueil, arrangeant et à l’écoute très bien situé. Le petit déjeuner est formidable. L’emplacement aussi nous recommandons.🙏
- Christopher Jon (10/5): - Lovely location. Beautiful views.
Extremely helpful family. They came searching for us looking for a lost tourist car...
Very comfortable bed.
Great breakfast.
- G J M (6/5): - Uitzicht. Bedden keihard matras en sliepen naast restaurant. Daardoor niet op je kamer kunnen zitten die van schrootjes gemaakt was uit de tijd niet gezellig. Ontbijt was laatste dag teleurstellend. Brood wat over was niet goed.
- quentin (10/5): -
- Lanfranco (8/5): Posto carino comodo accogliente semplice ma particolare - Posizione atmosfera cortesia colazione piacevole e con prodotti locali
- Jeffrey (10/5): -
- Luke (9/5): 2 night stay - Great location. Free parking on premises which means you could leave your car and wander the streets of Gjirokaster on foot. I wouldn't advise driving if I didn't need too.
The hosts were super welcoming and were happy to help out with everything. Breakfast was okay. Views were amazing from the deck Bed wasn't overly comfortable.
If you are above the kitchen it can get a little noisy downstairs at bedtime as they also run a restaurant.
- Harry (9/5): Gastvrijheid en prachtig uitzicht. - Prachtige locatie, schitterend uitzicht. Prive parkeren.
We hebben zeer genoten van de lokale gerechten bij het diner. Alle bezienswaardigheden in Gjirokaster zijn binnen 15 minuten bereikbaar. En natte de enorme gastvrijheid en aandacht van de gastvrouw. Waterdruk in douche was zeer laag. Daardoor lastig om de haren te wassen.
- Cypers (9/5): - lieve mensen

- Guest (10/5): I would definitely recommend to stay at the place. - Bake guesthouse has a fantastic view of the city and best location to visit the castle and the Bazaar. . The host are very welcoming and friendly people. Breakfast was great and healthy. The rooms were very clean and equipped. Our family occupied 6 rooms. We had little kids with us and the host was very understanding about them. We asked for home made dinner and the lady-host is an amazing cook 🩷. Everything was perfect! Next time I will stay a little longer to enjoy the city.
- Anna Ornela (9/5): I would suggest the property to everyone that wants to visit the city of Gjirokastra - The style of the house was traditional and very well decorated. It was comfortable with all the facilities and the host was kind and let us know all the needed information.
Amazing breakfast, all family were pleased and children enjoyed the stay. I don’t think it was something that I didn’t like. Everything was perfect.
- lucie (10/5): -
- Veronika (9/5): Skvělá poloha a ještě lepší snídaně - Skvělá lokalita kousek na hrad i do starého centra města, možnost parkovat u ubytování. Milá hostitelka, ktera byla vždy k dispozici. Dostali jsme nabídku pokoje s manželskou postelí. Bohatá a výborná snídaně. Z ubytování luxusní výhled. Pokoj byl bez oken s průzorem do chodby, ale byla možnost sednout si na terasu před pokojem.
- Kristiina (9/5): - The host was very nice and welcoming. Location is up the hill, all very close to castle and market. There is a private parking available which is great, room was big and spacious, breakfast was local style and plentiful. Views from the house to the city were amazing and there is patio to enjoy it from. For people from flat country as ourselves, though there is a parking, arriving to that parking in front of the house is quite a challenge. So I would not choose this if I am not really used to mountains/narrow roads and would come by car.
- Debra (9/5): Lovely stay high up in the village of Gjirokaster - Very friendly host Harkila was very caring and wanted to make sure we had all we needed. She served a very nice breakfast.
- Hamard (1/5): Dishonest. Avoid. Dreadful experience. - Bed sheets were clean.
Breakfast was décent. The room had a strong musty smell, probably due to dirty carpets. The bathroom, for its part, smelled of sewage, which clearly discouraged us from showering — an intolerable situation for a supposedly four-star establishment. What kind of host subjects their guests to that?!
The decor was very old-fashioned, giving the impression of sleeping at a grandmother's house — which we had already suspected from the photos, so that wasn’t a real surprise.
The Wi-Fi, although advertised, was turned off during the night and not turned back on in the morning, which is unacceptable.
But the rest of the experience was a disaster. When we opened the bathroom door to brush our teeth, the handle came off in our hands. When we mentioned it to the host — out of honesty — she immediately accused us of having broken it, even though it had clearly already been glued back together (we could see the glue marks). Despite our explanations and visible evidence, she insisted that we pay for it.
To avoid conflict, my friend chose to pay in cash, as the host’s husband was beginning to show signs of irritation, which made us feel unsafe. We were refused card payment, which already seemed odd — but we understood why afterwards: just one minute after our departure, the host reported on Booking that we had never shown up, likely to prevent us from leaving a deserved negative review.
I then posted a review on her Google page, with screenshots proving everything I said. The host had the audacity to publicly accuse us of lying.
This is all profoundly dishonest — an absolute disgrace.
After I filed a complaint with Booking and submitted a video proving that we were indeed in the room, the host suddenly changed her version of events and finally admitted that she had received us, thus implicitly acknowledging that she had lied.
Madam, it’s time to take responsibility for the shameful way you treated me and my friend. You ruined our stay, and we were left disgusted for the rest of the day.
- Sandra (10/5): Wonderful welcome to Gjirokaster Old Town! - Host family were very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We had a late lunch and an early breakfast prepared by them, and both were traditional and excellent. The room was very cozy. We felt right at home. This traditional home is very close to the bazaar, Zekate House, and the castle: location, location, location!
- Liz (10/5): Fantastic views, very central location - Great location only 5 minutes walk from the old bazaar. The terrace that our room extended onto had the most amazing views over the valley and the city. It was beautiful to sit and watch sunrise, sunset, and the change of the colours. Very quiet area. Breakfast was typical Albanian with more than we could eat and delicious. Good sized room. Very helpful and welcoming host.
- Gween (9/5): Superb - Incrivel staff
- Giulia (9/5): Superb -
- Rhonda (10/5): Charming and friendly stay in the old town - Location: short walk to the castle, bazaar, restaurants and traditional houses. Stellar view of the town and valley. The distance to the bus station didn't matter because our hosts picked us up and gave us a ride back with no charge. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Dinner at the guesthouse of traditional Albanian dishes was tasty and so generous we had enough for lunch the next day! There were both indoor & outdoor spaces for chilling out. Our hosts were friendly, caring and ensured we had everything we needed for our stay.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful setting - could not have been better. Very quiet while being so close to everything in the Old Town. Fabulous views from the large terrace. Our host Harikloi prepared such a delicious breakfast and dinner we didn’t need or want to go elsewhere. Our room and all areas were very comfortable and so clean. Harikloi and her husband could not have been more helpful, also providing transport to the bus station as requested.
- Rinie (9/5): Superb - The hospitality of the owners Nothing
- Anne-marie (10/5): Wonderful everything - Everything was amazing
The hosts were great and we chose to eat in the restaurant both nights which was a great decision
The food, the welcome, the view, the location all perfect Leaving!
- Salla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mohan (10/5): Exceptional - Hosts are lovely.........thank you!
- Timothé (8/5): Great location ! - We stayed two nights in Guest House Bake in Gjirokaster, the room and bathroom were clean and confortable. The AC was enjoyable and much needed in the summer heat.
The location of the house is ideal, up in the hills, in the old town, close to the castle and monuments to visit. The terrasse had a great view of the valley and the mountains.
The Bake family was very welcoming and helpful.
Thank you ! We would suggest adding more opaque curtains/shutters to prevent to much light from coming in the room early in the morning.
- Dalibor (9/5): Pleasant accommodation in Gjirokaster - Location - only 5 min walking to the city center, but in the quiet place
Friendly and helpful owner
Tasty breakfast
- Kasia (6/5): Pleasant - The hostess was really kind and helpful. They have a beautiful view from the rooftop and great house wine. The room was not very comfortable (the matterace in bed was very old and you sink in it). You feel the humid there...
- Eva (9/5): Great location, wonderful hostess & host! - Great location and a wonderful hostess! We couldn’t possibly been better treated! A very warm welcome, always attentive and helpful. We certainly recommend Guest House Bake to those planning to stay a few nights in beautiful Gjirokastre!
- Travelsmith (10/5): Exceptional - Very kind hosts.
Beautiful view from the terraces.
Walking distance from castle, bazar (centre) and Zakati house.
- Andrew (10/5): Great Guest House experience - Our hosts were fantastic and made us feel at home. Breakfast was great too. Location very good. The steep hills!
- Abdoul (10/5): Exceptional - The location good just 5 mins walk to the old town, the host is very nice and very kind, good breakfast and a beautiful view from the hotel. The breakfast is limited because we are 2 in the hotel i think so that they kept like this, that's all
- Cristiana (10/5): Exceptional - Great location! Amazing host: very kind and helfull! The view from the location is beautifull! Exquisit breakfast with local products in a sunny terrace. A true local experience.
The room had all the commodities, even a small kitchen.
- Lucy (10/5): Fantastic stay here, thank you very much! - The couple running the business are so friendly! They even gave us a free lift into the new town to get our bus! Delicious and varied breakfast and super comfortable bed! Just a warning that it is up a steep hill - but so is all of Gjirokastër!
- Bernard (10/5): Guest House Bake is very well situated and the hospitality of Harikla and her husband is wonderful! - The hospitality of Harikla and her husband were wonderful! She was always very kind and helpful, ready to do whatever we asked for or whatever we needed! She made us feel really comfortable. Everytime, even though she is really working very hard, we always got a big smile and: "are you okay? Is there anything you need?"... Lovely!
The guest house is also very well situated, very close to the center of the city (perhaps not so easy to find, but once you know the way... no problem anyway!)
- Anna (10/5): 200% recommendation !! - I stayed one night with my father during our journey in Albania and we loved staying at the Guest House Bake!! The hosts are so thoughtful and kind. The location is amazing (the view is so good from the terrace). The food was also delicious. Faleminderit for everything, we wish you the best for your season ! Do not hesitate to stay at the guest house if you are going to Gijokaster:))
- Corinna (8/5): Very good -
- Anne (9/5): Nice place. - Friendly caring staff. Clean spacious room with outside sitting area. Lovely view Charged a lot for a meal, wine and laundry.
- Bernhard (10/5): Exceptional - It is located in a quiet area of the very central part of Gjirokastra. The host was very welcoming, attentive and helpful. We recommend to try the local cuisine in the restaurant. Breakfast also left nothing to be desired.
- John (9/5): Great place for a short break - Great for a two night stay and only a 5 minute walk to the old town. Views from the terrace are amazing Nothing
- Danny (9/5): Cozy appartment with nice host and delicious food - The Host was super friendly and helped out where she could, good english, conversations where no problem at all. Nice view of the city, parking spot right at the accommodation, self-cooked dinner with delicious local dishes. Breakfast is in simple Albanian style but good. Everything sightseeing related (castle, tunnel) can be reached on foot.
In case you are wondering about the parking condition: Gjirokaster (old town) is hilly with lots of small steep streets, no matter which accommodation you choose. We found it with google maps on the first try coming from Korce. Nothing.
- Gintare (10/5): Exceptional - Thank you very much! Best place to stay i Gjirokaster! Amazing view from the roof, lovely staff, home made brakfast! Lovely 🥰 Rooms is big, ac working good, everything what you need! Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏🏻 absolutely nothing 🙌🏻
- Kamil (9/5): Superb - Cozy place.
Friendly host.
Eggs for breakfast 👍 Rooms are not noise isolated. You can hear your neighbours talk on evenings making it somewhat difficult to relax and fall asleep
- Deirdre (10/5): Wonderful! - Small family run home guesthouse, very comfortable, quiet, great views, in the old town. Hirakla and her family were superb hosts, warm, friendly, attentive. Breakfast on the terrace, and home cooked meals, with wine, all made with produce from their garden. Nothing!
- Constantin-alexandru (7/5): Stay close to the Gjirokaster city centre - Staff: They were very helpful and nice.
Breakfast: Although it was very basic you could find something worth your while.
Bathroom: It was big enough. The toilet flushed properly and there was hot water always. Room: It was not quiet. In the morning I could hear many birds chirping as the owners have a lot of parrots. Thus I couldn't sleep well. The bed was also uncomfortable. The blinders let too much light in.
- Leoš (9/5): Superb - Owners are very kind. Nice view, very good breakfast.
- Tomasan (7/5): Good - In general the accomodation was nice with very kind and helpful owners. The view from the common terrace at the city and the mountains was also beautiful. The only thing is that I have no idea from where the 4-stars are coming it was completely different type of accomodation. Now checking back the expected equipment wasn't corresponding to reality either.
- Martinus (10/5): Super stay and a super friendly and helpful host! -
- Leida (8/5): Very good -
- Alket (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly, convenient and clean Nothing
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely atmosphere, incredible view and even better host. Will definitely stay again. Fantastic experience.
- Andi (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean. The owner is very kind and attentive to help make your stay as good as possible. Rooms are big with a lot of space. Bathroom and shower were clean and spacey. Overall nothing missing on the room and our whole stay was pleasant Nothing
- Genci (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Anar (8/5): Very good -
- Keighley (9/5): Fantastic relaxing stay at Guest House Bake! - Harikla and her Husband were very lovely warming accomodating people. They would help at any instance. They offered taxi services and helped us get our bus sorted for next journey. Room was well equipped with some kitchen appliances and cutlery however did not have soap or sponge for washing these up which is a very minor hindrance.
- Siu (10/5): I am glad with my stay at Guest House Bake during my holiday. - The staying can give you not only a comfortable feeling, but as well as a chance going along with a Albania family during the holiday. The surrounding is filled up with flowers and fruit trees, and they will cook Traditional Albania home made food for you. This is super that the location is so close to the major sight seeing places by walking.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Pavlina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristel (10/5): amazing place to stay in gjirokastra - I loved the stay there. the place was in great location I loved the mornings they were the best because of the view and the amazing food in the morning that they provided. the place was extremely clean and the location was amazing for the bazaar part of the city. 10/10 the shower was a bit cold but besides that everything was excellent
- Bejleri (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts are very kind and friendly. The room was very clean and comfy. The location was very easy to find, near to the center and also has an amazin view that you can enjoy while eating an traditional and very tasty breakfast.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Good location, short walk from main streets of the town. Good value. Lovely hosts. Scenery of mountains at breakfast was terrific - see my photo:) Very good breakfast included in price with good range of food and drink with host ready to help. Taxi from new town where bus from Saranda dropped us was 500L and host conveniently was able to take us back to that stop when we left for same amount - appreciated as friend had a broken ankle and better than waiting for a taxi. Would very happily stay here next time. Lunch/dinner menu looked very good but we were meeting friends both nights so didn't take up option. Room was very good
- Joshua (10/5): Wonderful overall despite narrow roads and difficult location to find. - We had a great time overall. The only difficult part was finding the place and safely getting there as the roads are all very narrow and it’s difficult to find the place. However our host was very helpful. She met us near the place and even rode with us to guide us there and did the same to help us get out safely! The difficulty of getting there and the narrow roads for driving there which is normal for this region.
- Andreunavarro (7/5): Walking distance from everything - the location, free parking in the premises and you can walk everywhere No shower curtain and low pressure water. The bedroom didn't have blinds
- Javier (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rob (9/5): Great guest house in the old city center of Gjirokaster - The location and view of this guest house is really fantastic. All the touristic attractions are easy reachable by foot. Moreover, the host was really kind, helping us getting the car to the parking and telling us what would be nice things to see around. It is just very difficult to find the hotel in these old streets, Google maps showed us a route that is not even accessible by car. If you are in the same struggle as us, just park your car and call the host. She is more than willing to show you the way!
- Luismanibarro (10/5): Heart of the old town - I enjoyed the service of the lovely owners, always nice, willing to meet any need I might have. Nothing in particular
- Robert (7/5): Good -
- Constantin (10/5): Relaxing - Nice, warm, accomodating host. Spacious room, nice view. The restaurant has a nice variety of traditional foods. There is an alley to park the car in case that's the method of transportation. The location is quiet, but a short walk away from the Old Town.
- Nikos (8/5): Good value for money - The city center is within walking distance. The owners are very kind and helpful. Free private parking. Coffee is charged extra, €1 or €2 depending on the coffee! The breakfast area is exposed to the sun. Steep stairs to room.
Narrow roads for the car to reach the rooms
- Adam (5/5): too many buts to come back - Location very close to city center, very nice view around. Apartment clean. The cheap room we got (we did not know why it was cheaper, but apparently following are the reasons) was just next to terrace where breakfast is served. That would not be an issue, but the room has no air conditioning and in order to keep low temperature we were encouraged to open the main door and close only mosquito net door. This did the job, but shortly after 6 started preparations for breakfast, coffee machine and loud radio woke up all of us and that was end of the sleep.
Breakfast was below average, simple choice. If you want a coffee, it is charged extra 1EUR !!!! Come on. Beds are strange. You can feel literally each spring in it. I had a good sleep (until breakfast preparations), but rest of the family was not happy. Maybe somebody may like it, but this is first time I had something like this ever.
If you are driving a car, BE CAREFUL. Location of this apartment if almost at the top of the city and there leads literally a MAZE of one way narrow steep roads. Believe me, way up can ruin your day, especially if you are driving at night and pick wrong turn. Owners helped us, came to us and showed the way, but this was stressful and time consuming. I know many others were also lost. If you are using google, you have to arrive from Rruga Bashkim Kokona and call owners if you are lost.
Most likely other rooms were better concerning the noise, but they were considerable more expensive. For this price you can have a better sleep and breakfast in Albania.
- Chiara (10/5): Amazing - The host was amazing. She suggested us many places to visit and restaurants and helped us a lot.
- Arevik (8/5): Very good -
- Endrit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Seed (10/5): Very fresh! - Very fresh and clean room. Amazing view from the hotel.
- Nina (10/5): Friendly homestay experience - Welcoming staff, true Albania experience, beautiful views, parking on the premise. Dated matress, otherwise everything perfect!
- Alexandre (10/5): Exceptional - The owners are very nice and like to receive people in their house. The view is awesome and located very close to the center. Which makes it a bit difficult to access by car as the street are very narrow and steep and there is a lot of traffic. But the host was very helpful and helped us find our way to reach the parking. Only possible to pay by cash
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Juliette (10/5): Exceptional - The place is wonderfully located overhanging the Drin valley and next to Girokaster castle. The hosts are lovely and make you feel at home. We highly recommend.

No kitchen, bathtub, fridge.
- Violeta (10/5): Thank you a lot! - The hosts family were very nice and friendly. Helped us a lot during our stay as one of the family members required a visit to the doctors, they were very open to accompany us to the hospital, and get involved into the discussion, offered dietic food and herbal tea.
The hosts came to meet us in the city when we could not find the correct way too the place.
The rooms are comfortable and clean.
A great view over the Gjirokaster city from the courtyard.
The hosts offered us to try their own wine, which is very good.
- Dragos (10/5): Great experience! - Our host Harikla and her husband have been very accommodating and made our stay pleasant. Great communication, basic but delicious breakfast, stunning views in the morning, clean room, quiet location. We needed some help to navigate the toads with the car and our hosts kindly offered to help. I also appreciated the free private parking. The homemade fig jam was delicious! Maybe specific to our room, but there were no windows to the outside so the air was a bit stale during the night with the door closed. The spring mattress on the twin beds is not comfy, but the full bed is good.
