Guest Reviews
- Richard (10/5): - Inexpensive accommadations a mere steps from the best beach on the island for the price paid. Not a high-class cookie cutter hotel - a place with character not owned by a big corporation.
- Lutz (8/5): - I served its purpose. My visit was during the off season so things were a little quiter but the staff were stoill very good. The place could use a few coats of paint and a refresh, but I shall return next year at the same time.
- Nyree (10/5): - The Anguilla Great House was just perfect for our needs!! The food was wonderful and the staff were amazing!! Already planning to go back!!
- Dawn (2/5): - The rooms were out-dated black mold in room 111 , in the sink and shower and hair in shower the walls were dirty through-out basically my room was horriblle for the price i paid i will never go back and will share this experience.
- Richard (10/5): - The beach is so pristine and tranquil.
- Jose (10/5): Best service, super quite and natural. - The location is quiet, safe and clean. The facilities are at the bare minimum of comfort level but they are quiet and everything you need is there for you. There is nothing by luxurious about this hotel which makes it a perfect nature retreat. The bathroom was a regular shower with sink and toilet. The bed was confortable and the AC was absolutely amazing. Has a tv and a back door to dry your clothes there. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The room came woth continental breakfast which was just scramble eggs, sausage, toast oatmeal, cereal and coffe/tea and again its not luxurious but it was delicious. Chelsey (or chelsy) was our server and she was absolutely on top of everything and super friendly. She recommended a few spots and since we were the only ones at the hotel, we kept chatting with her. Best server ever!!! The location is away from everything so if you want snacks make sure you grab them beforehand. The beach was safe and we even walked around late at night. I will recommend this place if you don't need any luxuries.
- Checo (8/5): - The place is quite and hase a nice ocean view
- Richard (8/5): Excellent location - The hotel is on the most beautiful beach in all of Anguilla. We were in the room second closest to the beach, so it was less than a 50 ft walk. The room was comfortably air conditioned. The decor was a bit dated, but overall fine. The only complaint was that there was no shower head covering so the water came out in an extremely forceful straight stream.
- Shawnay (6/5): - The place is in need of some upkeep and modernization. The showers are old and the grout needs to be redone. Levers and knobs kept falling off of doors and windows. Needs an upgrade. Really disappointed in the food options in the evenings. The menu should be redone and prices reconsidered. Too Americanized and should give a sample of local fare. The beachside bar and grill was appropriate but closed so early it was not an option if you had daytime excursions planned offsite. It should be open later.
- kendick (10/5): - Great beach and staff. The quality of breakfast varied by day
- Maurice (2/5): Very bad hotel experience - Not sure how this star was rated an 8. This hotel was severely outdated. Shower head was rusted, bath sink had rust stains from the hair dryer. The towel rack in the shower had rust stains. The linen seem clean but had a stain on comforter. The furniture was old, it rained for 10-20 minutes several hours later the ceiling in my room was leaking. Hotel staff is not 24/7. Doors are not sealed from top to bottom so bugs can get in the room. Coach had stains and seem like the hotel suffer from rain damage.
The outside grounds are well maintained, walks right out to the beach. Restaurant service were good. This is a stopping ground for boat tours. So there are times when the area gets a little busy. Does have its own maintained pool that is very clean. While it is on the slower side of the beach it is close to everything else
- scottdcarter (10/5): Beautiful Beach, Simple, Clean, Friendly - We think the Anguilla Great House is one of the best values on the island. The staff is extremely friendly and keeps our rooms clean every day. The rooms are nothing fancy but the location is unbeatable. Rendezvous Bay is absolutely gorgeous. Waking up and going for walks in the beach is top notch. Highly recommend if you're looking for simple, clean, great location and friendly staff.
- Yolaundra (8/5): - This is a great spot. Right on the beach and beautiful. The staff was very accommodating. The rooms could have been a little more furnished, but it was truly all you really needed. My issue was with my television and not having a “Do not disturb” sign. One of the young ladies found one and brought it to my room. I had a great day.
- SuzanneSR (8/5): Simple Hotel with Beautiful Beach, Good Restaurant, and Great Staff! - This hotel is a simple place to lay your head and shower. The beach view is outstanding, and getting into the water is so simple. We ate breakfast each morning, and I found out after the first day that there is free coffee, tea, cereals, boiled eggs, juice, and apples. I wish someone had mentioned this to us at check-in. Chelsea, our favorite waitress, let us know on our second day. We ordered eggs, omelettes, or pancakes each day. Our food was always delivered fast and piping hot.
The rooms are very tired and have been freshly painted on the outside. The place could use a renovation, but it did the trick for us. The gingerbread cottages are cute from the outside. There is no room safe, and carrying my passport made me nervous.
Cocos is their beach bar, serving delicious piña coladas, Margherita pizzas, and other simple dishes. The prices are quite reasonable, and my two favorite waitstaff, Chelsea and Diana, always provided us with excellent service.
At the Caribe restaurant, we had delicious lobster pasta! It was so good I had it twice during our four-day stay.
The beach chairs were really worn out, but the view was priceless. Getting into the water was so easy, and I was able to enjoy this beach, unlike some other five-star places properties. Next time, I would bring my beach towels; the towels are small and have some holes.
The housekeeping staff did an incredible job for an affordable property. They kept our room clean and were always available if we needed anything. Be sure to tip these hardworking individuals; they truly deserve it. We had everything we needed from them, including plenty of shampoo and more.
The staff at the reception desk was outstanding. They even allowed us to check in a couple of hours early. The girls were all friendly and helped arrange our transportation to the Ferry.
The owner is an older gentleman whom we met on this trip. He was pleasant and took time talking to my husband. This is a family-owned property that has been in the family for many years.
In a nutshell, this is a bare bones property with excellent staff and clean rooms on one of the most beautiful beaches. It cost us $200 a night with taxes, and we would stay there again in a heartbeat. I can't wait for next year!
- Jeanette (8/5): - Comfortable stay for the day
- Jeff (4/5): - Great beach
- Heather (10/5): - We had a fabulous stay at the Great House. Yes the property is older but it’s super clean, and it’s on the beach. The service & the food at the restaurants was exceptional. There are also several other local place to eat within walking distance on the beach. We will definitely be back.
- Johnya (10/5): - Easy accessibility to courteous and knowledgeable staff.
- Maria do Carmo (8/5): - Hi! We think the property and resort Anguilla Great House, although very simple, is a good discovery for the price. It is a quiet environment and the staff is pleasant and accommodating.
The restaurant offers good food; the price is a bit high. The resort offers a simple free breakfast. We suggest a bit more variety because it is always the same.
The wifi works well and everything else. And the best feature is that one of the most beautiful and great beaches in Anguilla is just in front of the resort. The beach is magnificent and there are beach chairs and a bar restaurant. All lovely!
We recommend the resort to travelers who will spend most of the day on the beach and do not wish to pay the Caribbean prices for five star hotels, and instead prefer longer stays. There are other restaurants on the beach. All good! We definitely recommend the resort and thank Sandy for her excellent help and the entire staff for their kind service. Eggers
- Bianca (10/5): - Wonderful
Stay beautiful beach
- Margaret (2/5): - Lovely location but it needed to be rebuilt
Worst property I had ever stayed in!
Staff tried but difficult for them!
- Shane (10/5): - The Staff and property was Amazing
- Derek (10/5): Authentic Local Chill. - Amazing location. Friendly staff. Great local vibe. Drinks and food at the beach bar were delicious and reasonably priced.
Live music on Sundays popular with the locals. Great place to meet and chill with both guests and Anguillans, some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.
- Trent (10/5): - Great location! The beach is amazing!
- Dave (6/5): - Anguilla Great House is a very traditional Caribbean resort with friendly staff and great location. I struggled with the number of non resort patrons that were allowed to park chairs, umbrella’s and themselves on the grounds, many not patronizing at all. Security was a concern.
The room is large, comfortable, but lacking in furniture and some basic necessities for a beach vacation, like table/chairs, microwave, coffee maker, ice, room safe.
I think a missed opportunity to offer a meal plan (hot breakfast & dinner) that would allow patrons to identify, mingle and get to know each other, a sense of community if you like and better utilize the restaurant. Also, connecting with office staff to arrange/book reservation was impossible. Emails not returned, no toll free option, no website, did not allow direct booking and had to go through 3rd party and pay more.

We plan to return, but will book direct now that we have a contact. A little investment and TLC and this would easily be a strong 4 or 5 rating.
- Dianna (10/5): Anguilla Great House Review - Great chill place to stay on Rendezvous Bay in Anguilla. Excellent daily housekeeping, good food in restaurants, beautiful beach, plentiful beach chairs, great beach bar
- Oliver (4/5): - Property is old and not kept up. Beds are hard, shower spray broken, toilet broken. For a cheap place to stay you get what you pay for. Beach is beautiful but couldn't get a beach chair.
Dinning food was great but breakfast continental spread was pathetic, Froot Loops and corn flakes and a plastic container of muffins.
- Robin (10/5): - Location on the water was just fantastic they have palm trees that give you shade plenty of lounge chairs to make use of... For the price I was very happy to have such great employees location 🏝️ for the beach & the best water without waves to enjoy! hank you Danica, Sabrina, Will, Diana & Darlene... All the Others Also👏👏👏.. an 😊ldie and Goldie
If you want something shiny and new there is plenty of those big hotels that cost an arm and a leg to stay at this place had everything I needed and I like that the most about it ..it's the real deal.. cool little bungalows on the edge of the sand and steps from the water!!!
- Kristan (8/5): Charming, yet basic. - The property is bare bones, slightly outdated, but clean and comfy. Sparcely decorated, but you are not there for the decorations lol. Short walk to a quiet beach and just amazing views. It is very tranquil, safe, and the staff was nothing short of amazing and accommodating. Lots of parking but there are 2 entrances so keep that in mind when googling. Would definitely return.
- Amanda (2/5): Unacceptable conditions for travel - The property is incredibly dated and in need of a major overhaul. My room had ants in the bathroom and in the bar of soap. You could see into my shower from the outside. The front door had a 5 inch gap around it letting in warm air counteracting the AC. The lamps didn't even have lampshades. My colleague was told his purchased room wasn't available due to flooding and he would be moved each night- not ideal for a business trip. People were partying in the parking lot adjacent to the room with music blasting from their cars. The parking lot itself is full of craters that fill with water and create mud. Wait until it's not peak season and book elsewhere.
- Shelly (10/5): - We just enjoyed a 1 week stay here. The property is older but offers all you need to relax and enjoy on an absolutely gorgeous beach with a restaurant on site. We will be back for at least a week next year. All of the staff was so friendly and accommodating
- Sherry (6/5): - The property is very out dated and run down. We were in room 111, the doors to the room did not seal tightly, when closed as you could see light shining through. The toilet would flush on its own arbitrarily throughout the day and night, which was very annoying. The bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable, the mattress was caved in on one side, not to mention the noise it made getting in and out of it. The main restaurant’s food was good, but the menu was very limited on choices. The resort staff was friendly and helpful, the location is great, it’s just too bad that it’s in the condition it is. This was our first visit to Anguilla and definitely not our last, but we will stay somewhere else next time.
- Elizabeth (6/5): Needs much more than just an update - All hotel personnel were great—very friendly and service oriented. Beach is very nice. Hotel itself is incredibly outdated and in really bad shape. Our bathroom door didn’t close all the way. No lampshades and one of the lightbulbs was useless at 25 watts so we bought one at the grocery store. The lightbulb in the other lamp was super fluorescent. We paid for an ocean view and while we were the first cottage from the beach there were no windows that allowed us to see the ocean or beach.
- Constance (8/5): - We love Great House, although the rooms could use some additional furniture - like a dresser or shelves for clothing, and better light for reading.
Beach loungers with cushions would be a welcome upgrade!
The beach is our favorite on all the islands we’ve visited. The palm trees provide shade when it’s needed, and the water is almost always calm.
- jeffrey (10/5): - Love it! Very comfortable and beautiful Rendezvous Bay. Second time and will go back.
- Cherie (2/5): - My room was infected with ants and the shower water kept drpping loudly. We were moved to a room with no air conditioning. Thank goodness i was only there one night.
- Joseph (8/5): - Nice beach. Limited menu.
- Dorothee (8/5): - The reviews were all correct. The place needs a little updating but the staff and also the fun repeat customers make it a great place.
The beach was amazing we took amazing walks with our babies.
The two smalls downsides I've communicated to them. They have a few too many ants in the room (which they assisted us with) and also the dining experience at breakfast and at night are very unappealing. Everything else was really great :)
- frederick (10/5): - We had a lovely stay, reasonably priced. The staff were very helpful and so friendly. The rooms could use a little updating, but they were clean, the bed seemed new, very comfortable. I would definably stay there again!
- Gareth (10/5): - Really good place, the beach out front was actually better than the famous ones on island. Staff great. Quiet place, spacious and peaceful
- Patricia (8/5): - The property is a great location set back from the beach with cottage type rooms. The rooms were clean but some outlets didn’t work so they had extension cord running from fridge through room to get to an outlet that worked. The restaurant was nice had great breakfast choices. Dinner was good i got the pasta and liked it. The wine was not very good especially for the price. The first glass you could tell was bad from sitting out for a long time the second glass was better as they probably opened a new bottle but still not a great brand choice for a Cabernet. Overall i would probably stay there again because the beach was beautiful with a couple beach bars to walk to. The staff were all pleasant and accommodating.
- Christopher (10/5): A Lovely Hidden Gem! - I would give 5 stars all around, except I must agree with the other reviews that it could use some updating. Regardless, the bed was comfy, every staff member was so friendly and kind, the grounds are well maintained, the views are perfection and you can’t beat the price! Our neighbors were all repeat guests of at least a decade and that speaks volumes- just don’t expect anything fancy (if that’s what you want you can pay 1k+ a night at the resort a few lots down…) and you’ll be in heaven!
- suzannerG5284GT (4/5): Two star hotel needing a renovation with nice staff - I am not sure if there are rooms that have been updated Our room was definitely not one of them I am confused about some of the 10/10 reviews The staff is very nice and the location is good on a beautiful stretch of beach The place needs a major renovation Cost was almost $400 a night Room was a decent size Shocked that there is no room safe I hated carrying my passport around with all my cash etc Locals swim in the pool and use the chairs Room cleanliness wasn’t too bad Grounds run down The staff was nice to let us in our room an hour earlier Tasty’s was awesome right on the beach We loved the live music and excellent service Staff gave us a bottle of water I wouldn’t come back to this place Happy it was only for one night
- Robert (8/5): - right on the beach, clean, dining room and beach shake are very good and reasonably priced. Beach is probably the best on the island
- Mariya (10/5): - Great value and right on the beach. Incredible staff - would stay again even though it’s bare bones!
- Yosef (2/5): Not a normal place to stay - I felt like we were staying on camping grounds rather than a resort. The place offered very limited anything. No where to buy snacks, internet service was bad, our shower barely had hot water and no stream, the room was old, had rips in the lamp shades, you could hear your neighbors, the staff wasn’t friendly in the lobby and place was managed extremely inefficiently. Never will recommend this place for what is charged.
- J (2/5): - Beautiful Beaches, typical Caribbean oasis which hasn’t figured out customer service yet. The property needs an upgrade. Some of the staff work as a team to give you inaccurate dinning bills and the taxes in Anguilla are too high. Aging property which requires more development and a staffing overhaul!
- Alvin (10/5): - Beautiful beach!
- victoria (10/5): - This was our second time staying here and we love it! I think they have one of the best beaches! The staff, food, and drinks (especially the rum punch) are the best! Unfortunately, because of family crisis, we had to leave a day earlier. I hope we can get refunded for that; we can't wait to return again!
- Cheryl (10/5): - Right on one of the BEST beaches on the island!
- Samuel Allen (10/5): - An older property but clean. The beach is amazing. The staff wonderful. Great internet throughout.
- Jennifer (10/5): - My husband and I found this property last minute due to an unfortunate issue with our previous accommodations for our honeymoon and they were available and exactly what we were looking for. The beach is literally steps from our front door and the staff are absolutely amazing! This is a gem of a find on the island and we will definitely be back!
- James (10/5): - Very quiet and relaxing property older but very clean.
Staff is excellent beach and water are beautiful.
Very relaxing and quiet island vibe
Food is excellent.
- Karla (10/5): - The staff were very friendly. The food for lunch was really good especially the curry chicken.
- Irving (8/5): - Beach
- Hristina (8/5): - Old Caribbean charming property, rooms need some updating but this is reflected in the price you pay. Location is unbeatable, beach is one of the best I've been to. I went end of June in low season and the property was not full at all. Beach is public so there were other people staying in front of the property on the loungers. I assume during peak season it will be busy and you may have to scramble to find a chair and shade. Rooms are clean with basic amenities and toiletries, as well as beach towels, good AC, large flat TV, fridge was nice addition. I would have liked to have a small safe in the room as well. The back door was not really safely locked, and anyone could have walked in if they wanted to. The shower heads need update. The chairs at the front porches are ancient, I almost couldn't get up once I sat down on one, please replace them, they are unusable in current condition except to dry my clothes on them. There was good free Wi-Fi in the room but not in the lobby. The prices at the beach bar are pretty reasonable, you can get bottled water as well. Food was good and everyone was nice and welcoming. Pool is small and not really clean; the sign says 8 people max in it. It would have been nice to have the faucet with water working, so we clean our feet from the sand after we leave the beach. I saw people cleaning their feet in the pool and don't think this is good practice. Overall, I had a relaxing few days there and would stay again if I come to visit the island.
- Larry (8/5): - Ladies were nice and helpful.
- Aimee (6/5): - The property was affordable, but it was somewhat rundown and unkept. The fridge in our room was barely cooling and there was no thermostat to make it cooler. The grounds had a lot of weeds and were not attractive. The beach loungers were in bad shape. The beach was not ever combed to remove trash or old, dried up seaweed. The restaurant is closed and the only available dining is the beach bar, which is limited and doesn't have a set closing time. The pool water was bath warm and it was full of sand and not ever cleaned. It did smell like chlorine though, so that is a plus. Responses to issues were quick and the housekeeping person did a great job.
- suzanne (10/5): - A little dated but otherwise great
- Lisa (8/5): - This hotel is in an excellent location on a gorgeous beach. It has good food and a friendly staff. The rooms are in need of some updating, unfortunately. I would stay here again though.
- james (10/5): - Our third trip there over 30 years. Will return!
- JACK (10/5): - Beautiful location. Wonderful staff. Room was perfect. Def worth the value!
- Brenna K (10/5): - The entire staff and guests at the Great House property feel like family. Been coming to the island for over 20 years and it’s like coming home when we walk down the stone pathway. The location, charm and hospitality cannot be beat.
- Stan (4/5): - The property was located on a very nice beach. The condition on the room was sub-standard. The service in the restaurant was very bad. The quality of the food was very average.
- Caribchakita (10/5): West Indian Style Splendor - We had booked our apartment for 7 nights but I really missed being on the water so we double booked ourselves by staying at Anguilla Great House (AGH) for our last two nights. We kept the West End flat leaving some of our belongings there since it was pre paid. I chose AGH for a few reasons. I moved to the Caribbean in the late 80’s and have a soft spot in my heart for old school West Indian style hotels. Some of my favorites included the former Long Bay in Antigua and Vue Point in Montserrat. Anguilla Great House (AGH) did not disappoint. We had a lovely end unit with partial sea views. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. The heart and soul of this hotel are the staff. Our hotel room was clean and neat. They could use some updates but we were very comfortable. The beach is a gem. There is plenty of shade. It should be noted, it is a popular spot for non guests and to that end we had to grab chairs early to ensure we had a spot. Sunday is very busy.
- Linda (8/5): - Great location!
Updates are needed in rooms-
Coffeemaker should be available in room at no extra charge
Staff was friendly
Restaurant is ok for breakfast & lunch, but not dinner
I would go back -very relaxing
- Janessa (8/5): Perfect location! - We loved the location and you can’t beat the price! The rooms could use some updating, but it was very clean. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable, but otherwise we were happy with our stay!
- Allan (2/5): - This property is very outdated. The pool wasn’t up and running, room had no soap or facecloths, no coffeemakers or bottled water. Night fest man was watching a show on his phone and didn’t give us the time of day. Would not recommend staying here.
- monikasS1067NA (8/5): Second time around - The Anguilla Great House captures the essence of Anguilla yrs ago. You get the feel of the island. It's a good down home vibe. There r roosters to wake u n the morning. You would want that, so u can grab your beach chair @ the beach, early before they run out. You don't want to miss the breakfast with complimentary coffee. It feels great to have a front and back porch to hang your towels, bathing suits, and leave your flip flops without anyone bothering them. A good reasonable price. You can request a microwave, which we did for 15.00 a day because there is no stove. Who needs to cook anyway, I'm on vacation. They will call a taxi for u to venture to Sandy Ground. Visit the Elvis Bar, it's culture style happy. Meet Charmaine who is a super bartender. Meet Will @ the Great House. He's willing to help u, if u ask him. He's a very busy man, but he will see that the job gets done. I would stay here again. I would invite another couple and I would probably bring my doggie. No dressing up needed. Lay back. Lay all the way back. Enjoy. Enjoy Anguilla. 🍷
- Helen (6/5): Fantastic staff, Ok Hotel. - Staff super fantastic, everyone, receptionist, waiters and especially the cleaners, all doing their best and do anything for you. And this is where reviews get difficult as the stay was not up to the standard of a basic hotel let alone a 3 star Caribben beach resort. Many comments but will keep to two areas that need improvment. Restaurant- needsto improve the experiance, felt like a school canteen at times, so limited on menu and was our last resort. Take a look at other places on Island and implement changes please. POOL- felt really cheated as the pool was only usable for one day of my stay, rest of the time it was full of sand and debris, yes we had a storm but why was no staff cleaning it out the next day. 9 days not usable, totally unacceptable. Great location, great staff but so sorry to say poor hotel.
- Patrick (4/5): I would not recommend staying here! - This place was really out dated. Our beds were as hard as rocks. There was no soap or body wash in the room. Our key for the door took a long time to figure it out.
The beach lounge chairs are a joke. They sag so bad in the middle your butt is nearly sitting on the ground!
This place needs a major overhaul!!
I will say however, that the staff was very friendly, helpful and kind. That’s the only good thing about this resort ! (Other than it did over look the bay)
It was a rip off of what we paid!
- Danielle (6/5): - The beach isn’t crowded and is clean but the garden view rooms are in need of repair. It’s not a luxury property but that’s also why they don’t charge a luxury price. If you want a newer more up to date room go to a different hotel. Personally I went to spend more time at the beach than in my room.
- Jason (10/5): - Beautiful beach
- Lorna (10/5): - Bungalows with porches, sea views and just steps away from the most magnificent 2 1/2 mile Rendezvous Bay beach. Family-owned.
- bradwY77OY (8/5): Value Hotel that Provides Good Value - The Anguilla Great House has GREAT setting — right on the water with the mountains of St. Martin in the background! The beach is right outside your door. The beach bar (Coconuts) run by Diane is a fun and the center of the action. The staff is friendly too. The rooms are basic - but the price difference between here and the more “luxury” hotels make that tolerable. A few improvements, like a coffee maker in the room, two luggage racks instead of one blinds that completely close the bathroom window, would be nice additions.
Keera, who is the breakfast waitress is always sweet and the coffee is only $3.00, so maybe that makes up for the lack of a coffee maker.
All told, this is a value hotel that provides a lot of value. It worked very well for us!
- Kathleen M. (8/5): - I loved staying at the Great House, the property is beautiful, great location, very friendly and accommodating staff, comfortable rooms.
Would be nice to install new shower heads.
Thank you for a wonderful week
- Cathy (10/5): - Third time here. Best value on the island. Not the fanciest but this resort has all you need. Clean rooms, beautiful beach, no stairs, good food and great staff.
- Cathy (10/5): - Second time here. Not the fanciest but it has all that you can ask for. Great beach, food, drinks and staff.
- Ghislaine (10/5): - We had a great time during our stay and would definitely return!
- william (10/5): - Have been staying here for years at this family owned resort. Wonderful people and it’s the best. Rent a car there so you can get to see the island
- Verified traveler (10/5): Island dream - The AGH is a slice of paradise! Modest amenities to lay on the beach and swim in the sea. Take a stroll to the left and have lunch or dinner at The Place or take a stroll to the right and have great bbq at the Sunshine Shack. All with incredibly beautiful views! This family owned beach resort will bring you back down to Earth to live in the moment.
- ted (10/5): - Great price. Great location
- Daniel (10/5): - I felt welcomed and safe. Beatiful area.
- Denise (8/5): - Friendly staff, beautiful beach,
- Judith (10/5): - The location on Rendezvous Bay is remarkable! The staff could not be friendlier or more accommodating.
- Cathy (10/5): - Very relaxed and friendly property. Excellent value. Wonderful staff. Recommend having a car.
- Jacoba (10/5): - The beach is stunning, the staff are super friendly. The atmosphere is laid back and very relaxing.
- Myra (6/5): - Located beach front
- Vanessa (8/5): Great location and customer service! - This property is located on one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. With a short walk to the beach, it is both quiet and very accessible to beachfront. There are plenty of chairs and umbrellas, service at the beach bar, and a short walk to a handful of other restaurant options. The staff is very helpful and will work to manage any request. The manager, Will, was especially attentive and truly cares about the guests and staff. Overall, this was a very quiet resort with wonderful access. I would recommend a car on the island as the taxis are not quite as plentiful as some other island experiences. Rooms are spacious and beds comfortable. Great wifi as well if you are working!
- Leonard (6/5): - Nice location, staff helpful but property somewhat run down.
- Mark (10/5): - One of, if not, the best location on the Island. Wonderful staff, great food, awesome beach bar (where those that know go). If you go to Anguilla for the true Caribbean feel and love to swim in the ocean, you won't be disappointed, if you go for wash cloth swans and chocolate strawberries on your bed, go to one of the tourist traps. The Anguilla Great House is truly Anguilla at it's finest.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not-So-Great House - Lackluster grounds
No one in charge
Servers were not engaged. Aloof. Impatient. Unfriendly. Essentially, no beachside service.
Beach not kept clean, in need of raking
No Security service on grounds
Food was less than adequate. Pedestrian
We checked out after 2 days of a planned 7 day stay
CAVEAT -- Our opinion is just our feelings and observations after a short stay
- reedmangreg (10/5): The "good old" Caribbean! - If you saw Anguilla before your visit here it's probably because its amazing beaches... or perhaps because of one of those idyllic and unrealistic places like Four Seasons, Zemi/Hilton, Aurora and the like... which are nothing like the true Caribbean and in particular do not represent Anguilla at all, other than the very nice people working there, from what we have witnessed and experienced in 8 days here! The last time I have seen such a misrepresentation of a place was when we visited Bora Bora... and its hotels on the remote motus vs. mainland - but similarly to our Bora experience we found this misrepresentation to our liking; humble, friendly, down to earth and welcoming - and that's what we found exactly at Anguilla Great House - don't expect luxury here, it does need some TLC here and there but it is nevertheless a gem... one of the very last ones in this region of the world!
Location: Rendezvous Bay! We hesitated on splitting the stay originally on 3x Shoal Bay and 4x Nights Rendezvous Bay but were super happy ultimately we stayed all 7 here as despite the latter being super nice it's just the "unspoiled" aspect of the Rendezvous Bay and its palm trees that give its charm like no other beach on this island. The drive from the airport is pretty easy (if you rent with Avis you need to take a taxi ~$15 USD to get to their rental FYI... on the way back they will drop you off for free) and it's about 15m super easy main road drive - on the way here you will pass some grocery stores - if you go a bit further west pass the turn to the hotel you will end up at the Best Buy West - probably the biggest of them all and well equipped for water, beer etc. Also, at your disposal on the spot you have the hotel's restaurants Old Caribe & Coconuts, and next door walking distance Sunshine Shack and The Place - all 4 reviewed here separately if you want details. Hotel has a bar with excellent rum punch and beer is cold - what I am trying to say you don't need a car if you want to be just lazy and chill on one of the 2 best if not the best beaches on Anguilla! There is not that much going on on the island other than checking out beaches and restaurants so car is not a must, I say even though we had it for 8 days
Room: we had on the standard rooms with "garden view" vs "ocean view" - truth be said is that all have some kind of ocean view and although I was told they are all the same standard during the phone call prior to arrival, and our visit as we were offered 2 different rooms to chose from upon arrival, and the pictures here I can say that some rooms look better than the others - also, the doors to ours were a regular key vs. the building next to us looked like newer doors with the cards vs. keys so I bet there are some variances in the "standard" inside even though the views are the only "options" when booking - nevertheless, our room had a queen bed and an extra bed, huge bathroom with a shower, TV with cable, good WiFi, modern and silent A/C, and a small patio (all do) where you can chill in the morning or late afternoon depending on how sun affects you as it moves throughout the day. The bed was fine, though the pillows very difficult to sleep on but that's a personal taste I guess.
Hotel Grounds: the grounds are fairly big and open considering that there aren't that many rooms, mostly because despite 2 buildings they are all a single floor - which makes it feel cozier vs. other places around the island. The pathways are nicely organized with flowers/trees/bushes + chickens roaming around :) we haven't used the swimming pool but it's literally between the Old Caribe and Coconuts restaurants - the parking lot on the property is big and open as well - there are no "fences" on this property which makes it probably feel bigger than it is but it's all for better as the only people in the area is pretty much people who stay at the Great House :)
Beach: Rendezvous Bay! I have reviewed it separately... it's quickly became my top 5 ever beach and I have seen quite a few of them in my life! I loved the little area at Great House with the natural shade... it felt like a mini oasis! The sun loungers/beach chairs are dated and supeeeeeeeeeeer firm/hard so getting in and out of them was definitely an exercise but they worked and it's all we really needed - though a softener would have been very welcome :) the Coconuts restaurant can bring food to your lounger or a drink/beer - you can all charge to the room for your convenience so you can be just lazy here :)
Food & restaurant options: breakfast and dinners are served at the Old Caribe, whereas during mid day lunch and snacks at the Coconuts - reviewed separately, the latter one does some insane rum punches for $8 USD - one of the best ones I had in Caribbean and certainly best on Anguilla, a steal value btw for the high prices on this beautiful island. We had a lunch at Sunshine Shack and The Place next door to the hotel easy walking distance on the beautiful Rendezvous Bay beach - both great and recommended as well. Again, food, bar, wine, everything is here to stay... but if you have a car I would say going for cocktails/sunset to the Sunset Lounge at Four Seasons (yes I can appreciate luxury too...) or sea food feast at Palm Grove Barbeque Grill in the Savannah Bay, tapas at Sandbar is a lot of fun. Also, if you prefer more of a "cafe" experience in the morning go to Mill House Cafe Bar & Bistro easy drive west for about 5 minutes, we ate there 3 times!
Things to do: Anguilla is all about beaches and food... sleep repeat and quite frankly in 8 days it didn't get old :) but probably doing these few little things helped: Anguilla Arch on the west coast is a must, so is the Pamead Shipwreck at Sandy Ground, Rhum Room for rum fanatics is a cool spot at Zemi/Hilton since there is no "traditional distillery/rum" attraction here (shame!), hunting for locally made souvenirs (veeeeeeeery limited options), and just doing nothing - when you are at beaches like Rendezvous Bay you just don't leave, it's a shame to leave a beautiful place like this! So grab a beer, grab a rum punch or a book :) and absorb it all with your eyes and soul!
Overall: it's a gem! It's extremely inexpensive for Anguilla standards, clean, in a pretty good shape and provides all necessary amenities to make your stay comfortable, people are great and welcoming, so if you want to visit a very nice island in this region of the world and beaches are your priority look now further... but if you are a "luxury slave" then look somewhere else... Caribbeans from our experience aren't about luxury... they are about the people who makes region special... welcoming, friendly, kindly hearted!
- Stewart (6/5): - Beautiful location on white sands, staff really friendly and happy. Room had any infestation and was reported daily but never dealt with which meant nothing could be stored in bathroom. Gaps around doors meant mosquitos could visit as they please.advertised as having Gym/Spa, this does not exist,
- Nigel (2/5): - Great location, However the property is very old and is in need of a complete overhaul. The room has no amenities. the showers spray everywhere but on your body! The furniture is very old. The property needs a complete rebuild, and not a repaint. A lot of patch work in the interior and exterior. It's like that tried to put lipstick on a pig. The price to stay here is not worth it!!!
- Robert (8/5): Our slice of Anguilla paradise - Excellent location on Rendezvous Bay and the beach. We explored the entire island and its many beaches and this was our favorite. The staff was very friendly, from restaurant waitstaff to housekeeping to groundskeepers to management. A very comfortable and affordable vacation. Rooms were spacious and well supplied with toiletries and towels. Coconuts Beach Bar was a plus!
- Suresh (10/5): - Pleasant, hard working staff. Brilliant location.
Charming property.
Large, clean units / rooms.
- william (10/5): - Great place to stay, no frills but the best beach on the island. Great food and we love the staff. Sixth time we’ve stayed there
- Ryan (10/5): - The entire staff was an absolute pleasure to work with. Everyone was so accommodating and friendly. It was very quiet and we felt very safe during our stay at the Anguilla Great House.
- Mary Ann (10/5): - Best beach on the island. Very nice & helpful staff. Our room was just steps from the bay & very comfortable. Staff went above & beyond to ensure we had a great stay.
