Lovely staff, very friendly and helpful, even when circumstances were working against them, they made every effort to accommodate our requests. Very good food in bar and restaurant. Very good gym. It was disappointing on several points. We had a 1 bedroom suite for 3 nights which had very tired decor, broken window blinds, no in-room fridge, antiquated heating/air con system, erratic water temperature for showering, often just lukewarm water. Given that we were paying almost $1000 per night, we really expected a higher level of comfort and amenities from the room. My husband had stayed here often 30 years ago and remembered the hotel fondly for quality and charm. Sadly, he felt the hotel had not moved with the times, despite recent and ongoing refurbishment and the room just felt old and shabby.

Yes the rooms are small but they are comfortable and the staff is fantastic. Nice hotel bar for quick drinks. As a Marriott property you’ll get your points and enjoy benefits of your status.

• Nadine (4/5): Nie wieder - Lage nahe Rockefeller Center, Times Square, 5th Avenue Shopping Jennie von der Reception war der einzige Lichtblick in diesem Haus! Zimmer in einem absolut schäbigem Zustand, ausgenommen Badezimmer. Ich habe das Zimmer beanstandet und auf einen Wechsel bestanden. Es wurde behauptet, dass die ausgebucht seien. Da habe ich auf eine gründliche Reinigung bestanden. Der komische Geschmack im Zimmer blieb. Die Reinigung hat zwar den Staub entfernt, aber der Teppich und Vorhang blieben schmuddelig. Auch die Gänge sind sehr trüb und schmuddelig. Das Frühstück ist sogar für NY Verhältnisse überteuert und mein scrambled egg war ungeniessbar (zudem noch mit Haaren…)

• NewYorktravelers50 (4/5): Why is this an Autograph Collection hotel? - I was greatly disappointed in this hotel. It was classified as an Autograph Collection hotel, which generally is upscale. My room was fairly shabby, with ripped and frayed carpeting. Could hardly fit in the bathroom it was so small. Some of the staff were unhelpful, borderline rude. As someone said earlier, they act like they are doing you a favor by helping you.

• Mary (9/5): Loved the location, loved the history and the staff was outstanding. - Loved the location and staff. I feel the hotel needs to be updated by restoring it to its original beauty. Sadly it’s not the same as our previous stays at the Algonquin.
• Suntan1111 (2/5): Terrible - We have always loved to stay at the Algonquin Hotel. With that being said, our last visit was heart wrenching as we have not been in a couple of years. All of the charm and the magic of this hotel has been completely sucked out by the renovations. The people checking in and checking out as we were standing there seemed to be more interested in other places and trying to save a dollar while they were staying there. Very sad that the round table nostalgia, and the beautiful cats that would greet us are now a figment of the past.

• Julia (8/5): Historic hotel in NYC - The location was perfect for our sightseeing plans. It was easy to get a cab at the hotel. There was a $45 food/beverage credit every day. The food was very good at the restaurant. The first room we were given was very small with a bathroom you couldn’t turn around in. We asked to be moved and were accommodated. This room might be ok for a single traveler but not a couple. There is no room service at this hotel.
• christybU2451BL (2/5): Very unwelcoming front desk staff! - My mother and I decided to take a trip to NYC together as she has been dealing with some very serious health issue's and knew she would not be able to travel like this again very soon. This was a trip that we had dreamed of taking together for years and she was excited to stay at this hotel as she and her husband had a beautiful experience here in 2024. Unfortunately, that was NOT the case for us and it all began with checking in on Oct 23rd (pm shift) Her credit card kept getting declined and instead of offering assistance, the woman working front desk blatantly made fun of my mother, as if she wasn't doing something correct and was treating her like she was an idiot. She offered no assistance but instead kept yelling "OH MY GODDD!!" and putting her head in her hands, laughing and shaking her head while my mother struggled. We used another card, even though we knew the original form of payment had more than enough on it and went about our way. When we checked into the room, there was dust over every surface top and pubic hair all through the tub and the handles kept falling off the shower. Day 2, we again were met with rude front desk staff and were promply ignored for a good minute or so until greeted with an actual sneer from the one in the bright pink lipstick. Later that evening, we come down the elevator to go to the lobby for a drink at the hotel lounge before we go out for dinner and were re-directed to the basement staff exit and told that the lobby and amenities were closed to the hotel guests as the New Yorker had bought it out for a party so we were not even able to access the amenities we had paid for in choosing this hotel. After our 3 days, we checked into the Iroquois next door and found out from their very lovely and kind front staff that the reason my moms card wasn't going through previously at the Algonquin was bc it was an international card and the numbers needed to be manually entered in by front desk reception, as they did this they even offered us a bottle of water while we waited and we were treated much more warmly and respectfully during our stay at the Iroquois. The pros to our stay at the Algonquin were great location (but you can get that at many others resorts close by) the doorman was so helpful and kind, the beds were comfy and the hotel was set in a beautiful atmosphere. Too bad this was all ruined by the ugliness of the front desk staff and the dirtiness of the room. Overall, the value was greatly dimished due to unfriendly staff as well as the fact that we were not allowed to use the amenities we had paid for for an entire evening. Go next door and be happy you did!
• Mary (7/5): Otherwise we enjoyed the hotel and breakfast. - Historic The property was fine, however we found one member of the staff on duty Sunday morning, 10/19, to be unhelpful and unprofessional as she responded curtly when asked about there being no luggage storage for the day because (apparently) a bellhop had not reported to work that day. She was snippy and uppity and acted as though we shouldn’t even be asking for services. She shouldn’t be in a career of hospitality.
• SeeTheW0rld62 (8/5): Nice hotel in great location - This was my first time at The Algonquin. I really enjoyed it. It's an older hotel, which I like and it's in good condition. My room was fairly small, but that's not unusual in Midtown. It was located in the back of the hotel, so it was quiet, which is unusual. The location on 44th near 6th was perfect! I was only 2-3 blocks from the shows I went to and also close to Times Square. Service at the hotel was excellent.
• Compass36324661124 (2/5): Oldest hotel in NYC and it shows. - Check in experience was just plain bad. The woman at the front desk was quite unpleasant and clearly didn’t want to be there. The lobby appeared nice and newly renovated. The rooms are tiny and appeared to have taken a beating and they just painted over the dings and dents. Windows were so filthy I couldn’t barely see through them and couldn’t close the window tightly because of the cheesy air conditioner hanging out of it. I would not stay here again.

• Go63489189403 (4/5): Not Up to Standards - Unfortunately, this hotel is in major need of renovation. Wallpaper was pealing as was paint in various locations. Mattress may have been original, as it was as worn as any I’ve experienced. Elevators appeared to have never been polished. It comes across as shabby and not at the level of an Autograph collection hotel. We’re Lifetime Platinum with Marriott, and we love some of their properties. However, Marriott apparently has increasingly lax standards, and we’re finding it wise to look beyond hotels in the BonVoy group. In addition to upkeep and appearance issues, cleanliness was deficient. Without going into detail, the toilet clearly had not been cleaned before we arrived. Then there’s the obnoxious $45/day Destination Fee. Just increase rates and call it what it is. Once and done for us at this hotel.

• stephenaY6633QN (6/5): Disappointed. Expected more. - Did not have an overall great experience at this hotel; was not as impressed as I thought I would be. The bar was nice, and the $45 credit was a good perk I suppose, but I was still pretty frustrated with the lackadaisical nature in which my concern with my hotel room was handled (or wasn't handled in this case). The A/C in my room didn't work, and I asked twice to have someone look at it, but no one did. It wasn't the greatest experience, and the room was really dusty, so I'm assuming someone hadn't stayed in there in a while, which may have been why no one even noticed the A/C not working. There were a couple of times where I was close to just keeping my room door open to allow the hall A/C to cool my room. No acceptable nonetheless. Definitely not something I'd expect from an Autograph Property. Hopefully others have a different experience and this isn't a norm.

• ImmerWandern (8/5): A historic hotel for a memorable stay especially for lovers of American literature - We enjoyed our stay at the Algonquin. As mentioned by other reviewers, the location in Midtown can’t be beat. Bryant Square and the main NYC public library building, Fifth Avenue, Times Square, Grand Central Station are but a few of the iconic locations within a short distance walk. There is no question that this is an older building evoking an era of a century ago. And for many that is a major attraction. However for those not aware of the history of the hotel, the features or lack there of in the building might come as an unwelcome surprise. There is no soaring lobby. The interior design and decor are definitely from a different era. completing the retro atmosphere was a newspaper rack with wooden frames that allowed one to hold the newspaper. There are multiple couches and chairs, all leather-upholstered, available for guests and visits to sit down, which was a pleasant aspect to this lobby. The service is pretty good at the front desk/reception, and the doorman were generally friendly. The umbrellas were certainly much appreciated when it rained. The small reception area, however, meant that only two parties could be held at one time which made for a busy scene and sometimes frustrated guests. Our checkout process was a little delayed because of this. We enjoyed late snacks and drinks at The Blue Bar and Lounge. It was during one of our late evening drinks that we spotted the house, cat, Hamlet. Apparently they have been multiple generations of this house, cat, the name, Hamlet, having been chosen in honor of famed actor, John Barrymore and his most famous role. There have been female cats, however, whose names have all been Matilda. As expected, the elevator is small, so avoid bringing a large baggage or a lot of luggage when staying here. As expected, our room was not particularly large but there was enough space around the bed for our rolling hand carry luggage. There was a small closet with a safe. Toilet was of a surprisingly decent size and included a bathtub/shower. There was no significant view out the window, other than a neighboring building. Street noise was not an issue during our stay. Also, not surprisingly, there was evidence of wear and tear, especially in the furnishings. The bathtub enamel showed a lot of chipping. Definitely consider exploring the hotel if time allows. The hallways featured framed copies of the cover of the New Yorker magazine. The magazine had been founded about a century echo by one of the members of the famed Round Table. They were a group of New York City writers, critics, actors and actresses, playrights and journalists. There is definitely a lot of history to be appreciated at the Algonquin.

• JR1819 (10/5): Superb Ambiance, Staff, and Cuisine - Lovely lobby, and very special dining area where Dorothy Parker once held court — a great experience. The morning reception desk associate, Jennie Flores, was extremely helpful and welcoming. As I told her when we checked out, “Hay Flores en su sonrisa.” (There are flowers in your smile.)
• samuelp435 (10/5): Algonquin did not disappoint. - Enjoyed our stay at the Algonquin. It's location is perfect for walking to the Theaters. Hotel staff were very attentive, especially the Doorman who went out of his way to get us to our taxi during a parade that had blocked a number of streets.
• Jennifer (10/5): Elegance and comfort in an historic mid-town hotel! - Wonderful, renovated rooms in an historic midtown hotel! Fabulous bar food and service (great truffle fries and martinis). Breakfast was amazing - best French toast imaginable. Managed to feel both upscale and down home friendly at the same time. Nothing.
• BryceS94 (10/5): This is our favorite hotel in NYC - We stayed at the Algonquin Hotel last week yo celebrate my wife’s birthday. The Algonquin is a historic hotel on West 44th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. It is a small hotel, an oasis of calm in midtown Manhattan. When we stayed, we learned the hotel was 94% occupied that night, but the lobby was peaceful. In addition to its connection to the publishing industry, specifically the New Yorker magazine in the 1920’s, the hotel is famous for Hamlet, the hotel cat. On this occasion, Hamlet was at the vet for a couple of days. We missed Hamlet on this trip. We were upgraded to a suite, one of the occasional perms when you are a Marriott higher tier member. All the rooms have great bathrooms. The air conditioning is great. The beds are comfy. The staff is friendly. This is our favorite hotel in New York. We keep coming back. We have been fortunate to find good rates on the Marriott website, if our dates are flexible.

• gmromans (8/5): Stellar Staff - Maria, at the front desk, was friendly and professional who went way above and beyond to accommodate a last minute check in. She really was wonderful. The rooms are small and a bit outdated, but very quiet. The breakfast was quite expensive and though the dining area was not busy and staffed by two servers, the service was quite slow, to the point that we were puzzled as to the difference between the three tables that were being served in the restaurant at the time. For instance, a group who arrived after us made it through half of their hot breakfast before our fruit plate was delivered. It was just odd. Regardless, we are still appreciative of Maria’s kindness when we first checked in.
• Graeme Kay (5/5): Great history, great location, but you need a big room - Location in mid-town Manhattan was perfect for our activities. The Algonquin delivers on the old-fashioned vibe, which we prefer to the glass-and-stainless-steel Scandi-minimalism with hideous colour palettes which so many hotels offer nowadays. We were staying for 8 nights and had a problem which seems to be becoming more prevalent in hotels - no adequate storage in the double room we were allocated. We do not travel with ridiculous amounts of stuff - we're not on cruise ships - but we had to implore the staff to find us a room with enough storage to be able to unpack our bags. Why should guests staying for more than maybe one night be expected to live out of suitcases? To their credit, the staff found us a small suite with a walk-in cupboard, a dresser and a large chest of drawers. It made our stay, but if that had not been possible, we might have had to check out...

• P1970CAnicka (2/5): The worst Marriott Staff we have ever encountered! - We are Titanium Elite Marriott Bonvoy Members. We stay in Marriott Hotels 5-6 days a week. This is the most Pathetic and Unprofessional Property we have ever encountered. The front desk staff are rude arrogant and disrespectful! We were able to find out and write down the 2 who were the most rude. Maria and Marissa! I don't know who hired these two and why they are still employed, they should not be employed in any position that involves public interaction. The two bartenders from the Dominican republic were very professional. They should be the food and beverage managers. The beverage manager who was a mexican man was a joke. He came to our bartender and asked the bartender for something in Spanish. He didn't know my wife was born in Spain and spoke fluent Spanish. The bartender told the manager he was helping us. The little mexican manager said "they can wait, I come first." All the while not knowing my wife understood the whole conversation. Four of the wait staff stared at my wife and some of the other women and made her feel uncomfortable. We did not get their names. The valet Sean was excellent. The bell hop who was of Asian decent was excellent. They should be running the hotel. The rooms were dated, as we expected. The suite they gave us on the 3rd floor looked completely different than our Marriott Bonvoy photo. My advice steer clear of this Hotel until the Hotel manager wises up and puts a Professional staff at the front desk and in the dining room.......
• Heliodor (7/5): A friendly informal New York traditional hotel, comfortable and welcoming. Would book again. - Well placed, easy to get a cab or public transport. Generally friendly staff. We were the only non American guests. Good bar and food service, nice breakfasts, but a great local diner next door also. Grand Art Deco styling. Nice almost family feeling to hotel. Noisy aircon. Comfortable room, but not really big enough as we had large suitcases, having come over on QM2 liner. Cleaning could have been more thorough. At weekend, front desk proclaimed they ‘didn’t do concierge’ so couldn’t help with reservations or even recommendations. Except Deina who was very friendly and helpful.

The hotel and location are nice, but unfortunately the staff is incredibly rude and unhelpful - particularly at the restaurant (breakfast). The only thing they seem to care about is to charge you as much as possible to bank their tips (automatically added). The experience at the front desk was also average. There is a serious attitude problem with staff at this hotel.

Our taxis were waiting on us as we stepped out every time. We also had dinner the night we arrived. The missus had the truffle fries and house salad. I had the burger and fries. They were both excellent. Cooked right, served right and attended to dutifully with a smile. To Marriott's credit they did do a classy job of moving the Blue Bar inside the lobby/dining room. Keeping the round table and giving it a hallowed spot in a cove is pretty sweet too. We'll be back, again. Even though Marriott closed the Oak Room, the spirit of the Algonquin is stronger than any corporate makeover. Now, I'm just an old ad guy musing about how a little promotion around the Gonk's place in history could lead to something other than having to make more space for PowerPoint presentations. But I digress...
• O83AWjc (10/5): My favorite stay in NYC - The “Gonk” is our happy place. We’re fans of the historic and the Algonquin Hotel has 12 floors of it. We’ve been coming since before the current owners, Marriott Autograph. I cannot say I’m completely happy with the changes but it’s still The Algonquin Hotel. We love the place. I’m a fan of history and the literary figures that permeate the walls. The missus is also a fan of classical Architecture. My only nit is that they don’t amp up that. Themed literary nights whereby you get a free period cocktail for dressing like one of the infamous Vicious Circle and be able to site at least three good quotes. Could lead to some serious bar biz. Just sayin…

My partner and I arrived at the Algonquin and we were greeted by Jenny. She proceeded to check us in, and I asked if the resident cat was still there. Rather than replying with a simple yes or no, Jenny adopted a sarcastic, dismissive, and unprofessional tone in apparent effort to assert her authority. After I told her my partner and I were together, Jenny then decided to treat my life partner and me unequally. After learning he was Gold status member she only spoke to him, gave him the keys and wished him a good stay. She intentionally decided to to make me feel unwelcome and disrespected. I would not be surprised if she was anti-gay. On a positive note, the rooms was nice but small which is typical for NYC and the rest of the staff was professional. All it took was one bad apple to make a simple checkin experience rottten. Maybe the Marriot should reevalute who they hire to work the front desk of their hotels.

• DunamisArt (10/5): Downtown New York - My recent stay at the Algonquin Hotel in New York . Two 11th floor suites were bought, and to our pleasure the staff set them up next to each other which simplified a lot of things for our family. Right from check in, the Algonquin staff did everything possible to make us relaxed and comfortable. Check-in with Maria, who was at the front desk, was efficient as she received us in a friendly manner and answered all of the queries posed to her. Exceptional attention also goes to Tenzing ( I hope i got your name right), who is a wonderful example of hospitality from Nepal or Bhutan. As well as helping us settle into our respective rooms, he did us the courtesy of carrying three of my children's bags over to the Penn Club of NY, which was extraordinary service. Tenzing also organized our airport SUV transfer on the day of our departure with a fantastic driver Ramos. To my pleasant surprise, it was significantly less than the usual Blacklane or even Uber rates, and the quality of the service was excellent. The Housekeeping Team deserves high praise. On one occasion, I left my safe wide open with numerous valuables and cash in plain sight, yet not a single item was touched. Such honesty and integrity is rare and deeply appreciated. We also enjoyed the on-site restaurant for breakfast, which serves hearty meals ideal for late risers like us until noon. And finally, our gratitude goes to Jenne, who checked us out in a warm, professional manner that guaranteed we left smiling. For those in need of authentic hospitality, spacious and comfortable suites, and an unbeatable location in Midtown, The Algonquin comes highly recommended. Thank you to all team members for making the stay unforgettable. I am looking forward to coming back! I had decided to stay at the Algonquin mainly because 2 of kids were staying opposite at the Penn Club. We had 2 suites booked here, I was delighted when the staff made sure that these were adjacent to each other on the 11th fllor. This made the stay easier for us. As soon as we stepped into the hotel, the staff made sure that we felt welcome and at home. Maria at the front desk was extremely warm and welcoming. Another special thank you goes out to Tenzing (sorry if I misspelled your name!), a wonderful bellman from Nepal/Bhutan. He not only helped us get to our rooms, but went the extra mile of carrying 3 of my children’s bags to the Penn Club of NY which is across the street. This was definitely an incredibly above and beyond experience. Tenzing also arranged Ramos for our airport transfer (JFK) on the day of departure. I was pleased that the cost was very competitive compared to my usual Blacklane or an Uber. Once, we foolishly neglected to close our safe. (It was left wide open all Sunday) There was a lot of cash and other valuables fully visible, yet nothing was touched. Such honesty is absolutely appreciated. And last, but not least, I appreciate Jenne for giving me a smooth farewell. Thanks to every one of them for the remarkable stay as now, it would be hard to resist the urge of returning to this wonderful place while visiting the Big Apple. Furthermore Time Square, Broadway, Madison Ave, 5th Avenue, Bryant Park and a slew of restaurants are right next door. Central Park is also just a 20 minute walk.... Also thank you for the umbrellas that you provided on rainy days.

• Andrew (8/5): - We were upgraded to the Dorothy Palmer suite, whilst in some aspects it required updating and could do with a fridge in the room, overall a good hotel. The food and drinks were extremely expensive and the food repetitive. I was disheartened that the bar shut at 10pm on a few days so after a show we could not relax in the bar to finish the evening off. Annoyingly to us they put a 18% gratuity onto the bill and also a space for additional gratuity, it took away the how happy with the service element, as the service on most days was extremely poor, think it was because we did not add an extra gratuity, personalty I thought a basic beer in a small glass was 10 dollars plus tax and then 18% gratuity was excessive as it made a simple small beer very expensive compared to outside bars/restaurants. Overall a good hotel in a good area close to times square, but overall expensive for what you got, the receptionist when leaving said as we did not use the daily credit they had added it to our account no benefit for us but guess it was for them.

The historic nature of the hotel is wonderful, and the menus contain many interesting footnotes about the property! Front desk wanted to charge $1 each for a postcard stamp--this is ridiculous at this level of hotel.
• Jane (8/5): - Lovely old hotel with great staff and interesting features. Desk staff were really helpful with check in and booking restaurants. Food is available over long periods of time and offers variety and quality but is fairly expensive. Our king room was expensive but large and well decorated, although the bathroom was very cramped and the shower leaked badly. The springs in the bed squeaked loudly and the mattress was overdue for replacement. We enjoyed the references to the wit of Dorothy Parker and the round table. Overall an enjoyable stay but overpriced.

Shondra was also efficient and most obviously collaborative with her colleagues behind the desk. A plus. • flabuf (8/5): I want to give it more stars, but I just can't. - Everybody wants a five-star review, but not everybody is willing to do what it takes to deserve one. My stay at the Algonquin hotel has aspects of five stars and aspects of something less. My first impression of the hotel is that it is a quaint smaller hotel in New York City near but not in Times Square. One of the first things I notice as I’m waiting my turn to check in is that the bar area is fairly lively. It is on the small side but the people there are having fun. Shortly, the man in front of me is finished, and I go to check in where I am the front desk attended that night, Sharma Graham is pleasant, knowledgeable, and easy to talk with. she not only checks me in but she explains the destination charge in a way that it winds up being simply a prepaid bar and/or food bill with the added benefit of a credit for Lyft, A credit that I ultimately do not use but would make the destination charge an actual positive rather than just money out of your pocket. I’m on the 8th floor, and I’m the smallest room but nicely appointed with a desk, closet, small chest of drawers, and two night stands. The bathroom is similarly small but is set up such that it's easy for me to put my toilet set up the way I like to. So, ultimately, the room is everything I need for a two night stay. I would add that I had some difficulty with my reservations in that I made them through two different organizations using up points from two different credit cards to pay for the stay. Sharma created a space where this was absolutely no problem. The other thing that happened with her the next evening when I came in and had questions about the destination fee/food credit she explained it to me showing me my actual bill and the hotel updates its computers at 4:00 in the morning wherein the bill would reflect the $45.00 credit. So about the food, the hamburger that I had the first night was excellent. The bartender made a really good Manhattan also. Breakfasts, on the other hand, were pretty much on the mediocre side, especially for the amount that they charge. So I struggle a little bit, wanting to give her 5 stars and give the hotel 3 plus. If it was a 10-point scale, I would give them 8. I would book here again.

If you like stepping back in time in comfort, this is a great place. And we loved meeting Hamlet. The AC worked well, although it was a little loud. Have been here before and will be back again.

• Albert (10/5): Changing with the times. - The Algonquin has been my favorite hotel in the city for almost 50 years. It has changed to keep up with the times. I miss man of the old charming features, the lobby recalling the days of glory with the Round Table, the waiters in tuxes, the laid back decor. The new Algonquin is still very special. it is very pleasant. The house kitty Matilda is sadly gone, but Hamlet has replaced her. He is a little shy, but makes the rounds of his place. The rooms are a little small but very comfortable. Wonderful place to stay in the city.

Everyone, from the bellman, front desk staff, to the restaurant team, were friendly and welcoming. I had read the rooms were small, and they are, but the ceilings are high and my bathroom shower was huge, I never felt uncomfortable. I was upgraded to a King room which was perfect for one. @patricecorrea who checked me in could not have been more nice! She was always at the front desk with a big smile ready to answer any question. I will definitely be back!
• 188vijayr (4/5): Tired, old hotel - This apparently is one of the oldest hotels in NY - but that's not an excuse for what's a tired, rundown property. I'm a Marriott-Bonvoy loyalist, and seasoned business traveler. And this is probably one of the most disappointing experiences I've had. The room was tiny, the AC unit ancient (and incredibly noisy), the shower mouldy, and everything had a worn, unkempt look to it. Worst of all - and despite feedback in previous reviews - hot water was hit and miss. All this for $500+ a night :/ This place has to do better. The only redeeming feature was the manager - a very pleasant European lady (I didn't get her name) - who was courteous and patient, listening to my in person feedback.

It’s always nice to be acknowledged without asking. There was also a cute bar with great cocktails, and a simple selection of food. Would definitely go back.

We love the boutique vibe this hotel offers, where you feel like you are home when you step inside off the streets of busy Manhattan. It's such a perfect combination of old world elegance and charm, and modern day NYC. We were upgraded to a beautiful modernized suite, and were so pleased with all of the amenities and accommodations. We can't recommend this hotel enough, it's like coming home!

• E1941ADmarkh (2/5): Homophobia in NYC - I have never been treated so poorly by the front desk staff at a hotel in my life. I was belittled and scolded by the woman at the front desk. The homophobia she projected was not something I have experienced since I was in my early 20s in the 1990s. I did not expect to be treated this way in New York City of all places. I had an issue with my room and as soon as I mentioned my "husband" the woman's tone changed dramatically. I eventually asked to speak with the manager and received the same treatment. I am totally shocked. I was really looking forward to staying in this hotel given its amazing history. Most of the staff was amazing and this happened on the last night my family was in town, so it did not ruin my time in NYC, but if we were staying longer, I would have switched hotels because I felt so uncomfortable staying there. I would caution anybody in the LGBTQIA+ community to think twice before booking a room in this establishment.

I was initially greeted by Marcus as he along with another gentleman took good care of us for the entire stay. We met Marissa at the reception counter and she greeted us with a wonderful warm smile and immediately assured me that all our rooms were being taken care of and how the process works. She was delightful for the 6 nights we were there. Marissa checked up on us with the rest of the team as well. It was a very good experience. John in the restaurant along with another gentleman did a very good job as well. All in all I think the team at the Algonquin has got it together.

• Patrick (10/5): - This is a great old hotel. The amenities are up to date though, and the rooms are very comfortable. Unfortunately, our heat wasn’t working. We reported that in the morning as we were checking out and they immediately gave us rewards points as a consolation, and said they would address it right away. We had drinks in the bar area and, while expensive (it is NYC, after all), they were great and service was wonderful. This hotel is also perfectly located for enjoying Broadway and the theaters. Definitely recommend.

• William (5/5): Loved my time in NYC but the hotel stay did not meet my expectations. - I was in town to see two shows on broadway and used to stay at this hotel many times, when it was under the original owners. Lived in NYC for many years and used to frequent the Algonquin for dinner and drinks before going to a show. I thought I would revisit on this trip and was very disappointed. The hotel itself looks very worn and tired. The staff were just OK, I almost felt that they blended in with the background and never went out of their way to show attention to the guests. My room 202 was far from what I expected, considering it's a Marriott. Took many minutes to get hot water, the top on one of the furniture pieces in the room was broken off with the potential that a guest could get cut from it, it appears the old heating system is not working and looks so ugly, the stand alone heating system didn't work very well, and the carpeting was torn near the entrance to the bathroom. This particular room is really tiny, I can live with that if everything else was correct. This room should have been placed on OOO until these issues were addressed. If Room 202 is an example of what the rest of the rooms look like, something needs to change at this property. I'm and ex Director with IHG and usually stay in one of our properties when in NYC but occasionally like to venture out. Maybe I should stick with what I know best. Thanks For Reading.
