From the very first moment, you can feel the timeless elegance of the property: the location is perfect, right in the city center, and the design beautifully blends history and refinement. Every space reflects the authentic charm of Milan. I stayed in a suite, spacious, beautifully appointed, and exceptionally comfortable. It was quiet, bright, tastefully decorated, and equipped with every detail designed for relaxation. I slept wonderfully. The dining experience was equally excellent: top-quality cuisine and impeccable service. Breakfast was one of my favorite moments — enjoying it in the outdoor seating area overlooking the small square is something truly special, a little luxury that makes the start of the day unique. The aperitivo at Gerry’s Bar is also not to be missed: a true Milanese living room, elegant and welcoming, where time seems to slow down and every detail is carefully considered. But what truly makes this hotel memorable is the service: professional, discreet, and attentive, “old-fashioned” in the best possible way, a rarity nowadays. In summary, an experience I highly recommend without hesitation. The Grand Hotel in Milan is a guarantee of excellence in every respect. I look forward to returning.

I've stayed in a lot of terrific hotels during my European travels across the decades, but never have I stayed in one whose orgins go back to 1863 and whose historic guest roster is astonishing and whose ambiance is a symmetry of vintage and contemporary and whose efficient staff is courteous, friendly and accommodating. In fact, the Grand Hotel et de Milan is the most unique one I've ever experienced not so much because my wife, the Olympic swimmer Kathy Drum, and I found our stylishly attired corner room on the fifth floor with a balcony exceedingly clean, comforting and relaxing throughout our eight-day stay, or not because its Michelin Ristorante Don Carlo turned out to be an exquisite culinary event, or not because our breakfast with its many fresh, tasty goodies and its extraordinary crew of attentive waiters overseen by manager Ivano Quaini turned out to be a daily morning delight, or not because another extraordinary crew, the six concierges overseen by the Head One, Walter Milia, fulfilled our every request with a glad promptness, or not because its enchanting, picturesque, chandeliered lobby that seamlessly leads into a plush domed lounge with lengthy hanging, flared, silk curtains and elegant furnishings known as Gerry's Bar that turned out having, incredibly, my favorite Kentucky rye whiskey, the legendary Old Overholt, which I quickly ordered on my first day and a few more times during my visit. There is so much to like about this timelessly resplendent 92-room hotel that evinces a fin de siecle aura from its storied past, but what titillates me most is I never thought in my wildest imagination that I would one day reside in an establishment that has hosted seven American presidents, Ulysses S. Grant, John F. Kennedy, Harry S. Truman, Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Joe Biden, and four American Supreme Court Justices, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Sandra Day O'Connor, Earl Warren and John Paul Stevens. But of course the Grand over the years has had an endless stream of A-list clientele such as Enrico Caruso--its excellent lobby bistro is named after him---Maria Callas, Luciano Pavarotti, Rudolf Nureyev, Margot Fonteyn, Arturo Toscanini, Ernest Hemingway, Winston Churchill, Mark Twain, Charlie Chaplin, Gen. George C. Marshall, Jack Benny, Jimmy Durante, Richard Burton, Madonna, Paul Newman, Marcello Mastroianni, Robert De Niro, Vittorio de Sica, and dozens of other well-known directors, actors, politicians, entertainers and European royalty figures. Even American athletic icons like Bill Russell and Jesse Owens and Arnold Palmer have been guests. But the one who had the greatest impact on the Grand Hotel et de Milan having world wide stature since the 19th century is Giuseppe Verdi, Italy's most famous composer celebrated for his operas such as La Traviata, Rigoletto, Aida, Otello, Nabucco, Falstaff and 22 others during his prolific career. Verdi started living at the Grand in 1872---he also had a residence in the country at Sant'Agata---and created his final two masterpieces, Otello and Falstaff, in his suite that the Grand's amiable front office director Stefano Donati says hasn't changed since Verdi passed away in it on January 27, 1901. ``Verdi's place here became known as the living room of La Scala,'' says Donati, who showed me around Verdi's Suite 105 that is festooned with monochromatic photos of famous people---including himself---and old art renderings and various other relics of interest. ``You wouldn't believe how loud it would be around here sometimes after one of Verdi's operas at La Scala, especially after a premier. After the Otello one in 1887, the adoring crowd in front of La Scala unhooked the horses from Verdi's carriage and pulled it down Via Manzoni to our hotel with Verdi and the tenor Francesco Tamagno in it to wild applause and cheers. They kept it up after Verdi went to his suite, and then a few minutes later he stepped onto his balcony and the tenor Tamagno did an encore to the wildly cheering crowd. That became a regular event here after many of Verdi's operas.`` Wealthy opera devotees can rent out the suite, and sleep in Verdi's bed, but the steep price isn't for those on a budget like me, or are financially faint of heart. If you're seeking a charming five-star hotel in Milan with an unmatched cultural heritage in the midst of a bustling city center near many of its most prominent landmarks, then the Grand Hotel et de Milan would be your Nirvana. I mean, you walk outside its front door and suddenly you're strolling along on the most expensive luxury apparel street on the planet, Via Montenapoleone, with an endless array of upscale boutiques and brands like Valentino, Channel, Van Cleef & Arpels, Versace, Armani, Cartiers, Bulgari, Gucci, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Harry Winston, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, etc., etc., etc. that stretches longer and is more intimate than Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. And if you choose to walk five minutes from the Grand in the opposite direction you will be at the sainted opera house, Teatro alla La Scala. And five more minutes of walking will take you to the ornate Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle and its arcade of restaurants and high-end jewelers and shopping outlets that is located in front of Milan's massive, spectacularly statue-bedecked (3,400) Duomo, one of the largest churches in the world and a memorable sight to behold. What a stellar location! What a stellar atmosphere! What a history! (Caruso in the Grand's Suite 306 cut the first base plate record in music annals singing 10 arias into a Gramophone funnel) What stellar service! I found out the latter each morning of my stay when I'd trudge down to the front desk before breakfast and inform one of the receptionists or concierges I'd like my room cleaned. And forty-five minutes later after we ate, my wife and I each time would return to our room finding the bed made with new sheets, the bathroom stocked with new towels and wash clothes, and the room thoroughly vacuumed and cleansed with complimentary chocolates left on the bed. The majestic Grand Hotel et de Milan is, to disinter a ghastly cliche, one of a kind!

We paid more money for this room and we did not get this money back. Hopefully they have changed it in their website to avoid more disappointment guests.

Grand old hotel in old style, but well-kept. Everything was clean, spic and span even. Everything worked despite all being kept in the old style. Staff was very courteous and helpful when needed. Breakfast offered great selection of tasty foods.

We came back from the concert at around 1 am and found bottles of water and sweets waiting for us. A true act of kindness and service. The staff made us feel welcome and was super efficient and professional when it came to checking in, bringing out suitcases, and helping us with taxis and with every meal.

Comfortable suites. Warning that this property can be very busy during a Milan fashion week. This led to slow service at the bar & spotty service at the restaurant. One fix is to get to the breakfast buffet early, as they typically run out of eggs by 10am
- ALFRED99 (10/5): Great service and Grandeur. - A very elegant Hotel located a short walk from La Scala, minutes away from The Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and with a Metro Station next door. A warm greeting on arrival minus our luggage (courtesy of KLM Airlines) helpful and efficient check in and quickly to our room. Reception staff kindly provided emergency toiletries. Our room 202 looking out to the inner garden/courtyard was spacious, clean and beautifully furnished with a large comfortable king bed, sofa's, chairs and desk, excellent device charger, coffee machine, kettle, tea and coffee provisions, TV and daily bottled water. Plenty of storage and hanging space, a coat/trouser hangar although the safe was positioned very low in a wardrobe. Bathroom comprised good sized washbasin, large mirror, toilet unit and bidet, plenty of good quality towels and linen. Regrettably it is an over bath shower which is tricky for us less agile folk and you cannot actually stand under the main rain shower head as it is too close to the wall. There is a hand held shower spray and safety mat. The main room was very relaxing and restful although there is a little traffic noise mainly from the trams. Housekeeping was immaculate. Breakfast was enjoyed in a nice dining room where the staff are pleasant, helpful and efficient. Maybe the tables are a bit close together but the buffet and cook to order produce is extensive although a lot of food at a lower table is not covered. The nearby warm counter is just too cluttered so you cannot put your plate down, hold a tureen lid and plate your food all at once. Part of the dining space is in a conservatory so you can watch the early morning commuters. Dining out do consider ANyMA restaurant, Via Maroncelli 15 for real flavours of Spain and Italy. In summary a most enjoyable stay despite our luggage tribulations much alleviated by the very caring and helpful staff who could not have been more supportive and helpful. Stay here to enjoy traditional elegance and style coupled with first class service.

The breakfast is great and so is the restaurant food. The staff at the restaurant were lovely. Christian, a long time employee at the restaurant was very helpful & knowledgeable. Our chk in was smooth, thanks to the reception & the ushers at the door. The rooms were airy & spacious, beautifully serviced & with modern amenities & ample closet space. Room had a view of the Duomo. Every night we were provided with lovely treats & of course the welcome drink in the room. The hotel promptly catered to all our requests & we loved our stay. I am a fan of Italian & French Concierge because of their knowledge & reach. The Concierge team here did not disappoint, all restaurant & activity suggestions were super. Special thanks to Walter & the team. Note: I love Ortigia & the Ortigia products provided in the bathroom were a lovely surprise. Our 5 nights stay in Milan was perfect!

- TravelDad75 (10/5): An Oasis During Milan Heat Wave - We absolutely LOVED this hotel! We were upgraded, and checked in upon arrival, based on our Amex Travel booking. This is a classic grand dame hotel. In the middle of a heat wave in Milan, I always loved walking back into this beautiful hotel. Its an oasis and the air conditioning is amazing, which is not always the case with European hotels. The service is impeccable and the rooms are gorgeous. One thing I really appreciated: daily free water bottles in the room. The old school room keys were super cool. Its also very convenient, sitting right next to a metro stop. We took the airport train to Milano Centrale and then took a quick metro ride (M3 line) to the hotel. The Duomo is an easy 7 minute walk. I would not hesitate to book this hotel again.

ACs work perfect exactly like the ones we have back home in the UAE. The rooms are very spacious, usually with many windows and balcony. The staff are amazing, theyre so helpful and friendly. Housekeeping is the best, they clean the rooms twice even in the turn down service they clean the rooms and replace towels, tissues, etc.. 🌟 These things make us always come back to this hotel. 🌟 The only thing they can improve in is the breakfast options, there has to be more variety of food for international guests. However, room service food is really good!

I did not like at all the vanity goods , the smell was awful , I could not use the hand wash liquid , it smells so bad , you should change it , I had to buy a soap for me not to use the ones hotel offered . Also the brand of vanity items was very strange and not famous as The Leading Hotel member should offer high class vanity items. This is the only thing I want to complain about. Also I suggest to offer better quality chocolate with coffee in the lobby bar . It was not good .

- ChloeTokyo (8/5): Old Classic - 作曲家ヴェルディが晩年住んでいた他、マリアカラスがスカラでの公演では定宿にしていた、スカラ座に由縁のある老舗ランドマークホテルです。 ファッションのモンテナポリオーネ通りのすぐ横、スカラ座にも近く、ブレア地区やドゥオモにも行きやすい便利な立地。 地下鉄の乗り場もすぐ横です。 グランドホテルという割には、エントランスも小さく、忙しいアレサンドロマンゾーニ通り前に、車をチェクインの際の荷物下ろし程度以上駐車する場所はありません。 ですが、ドアマンは常駐しており不便は感じず、親切で、いつもボンジョルノとドアを開け迎えてくれます。 ロビー奥のサロンは美しく、落ち着いた雰囲気。 居心地の良いソファーで、お酒や軽い食事が頂けます。 お部屋は、アップグレードして頂いたせいか分かりませんが、イタリアの狭いスタンダードより広めでゆったりしていました。 金銀の豪華さはなく、古典的。 グレー大理石のバスルームはシンク二つ、大きめなバスタブとシャワー共（またもや、慣れない水の飛び散る半ガラス。写真参照）。 テーブルに、ワインとグラスがあり、これはウェルカムのサービス？と思ってフロントに聞いたら違いました。 「どうぞお飲みください。お客様は100ユーロのクレジットがありますので、それをお使いいただけます。」 とのお返事。 ちょっと紛らわしい、ミニバーの所に置いて欲しかった。 カード式の鍵が多くなった今、このホテルでは、昔ながらの大きな重たい鍵です。 ですので外出時に持ち歩くには重たく、ロビーで預けることが多くなります。 その度にフロントスタッフに手間をかけるのが気が引けましたが、皆感じよくプロフェッショナルでした。 朝食のブッフェは小さく見えますが、一通り揃っていて美味しく、甘いスイーツやパンも充実。ちょっと置いてあったオリーブオイルやバルサミコの質が良かったです。 このホテルは、他の近辺５つ星ホテルと立地、質、クラス、サービスを比べることはできませんでしたが、お値段は半分ほどになります。 その点を考慮すると、お得で居心地の良い滞在になるかと思います。 This historic landmark hotel has deep ties to La Scala: composer Verdi lived here in his later years, and Maria Callas made it her regular stay during her performances at La Scala. It is located just beside the fashionable Via Montenapoleone and close to La Scala, making it a convenient location with easy access to the Brera district and the Duomo. There's also a metro station right nearby. Despite being called a “Grand Hotel,” the entrance is rather small, and being on the busy Via Alessandro Manzoni, there’s no space to park a car beyond the quick unloading of luggage during check-in. However, a doorman is always present, making things easy and convenient. He’s kind and always greets you with a cheerful “Buongiorno” while opening the door. The salon at the back of the lobby is beautiful and has a calm, refined atmosphere. You can enjoy drinks or light meals on the comfortable sofas. Our room was more spacious and relaxed than the typical small Italian standard—possibly due to an upgrade. It wasn’t gaudy with gold and silver, but rather had a classic style. The gray marble bathroom had two sinks, a large bathtub, and a shower . There was a bottle of wine and glasses on the table, and I asked the front desk if it was a welcome gift. They said no, but: “Please feel free to enjoy it. You have a €100 hotel credit, so you can use it for that.” It was a little misleading—I would have preferred it to be placed in the minibar area. In a time when keycards are the norm, this hotel still uses the traditional large, heavy keys. Because of this, carrying it around while going out is a bit inconvenient, so we often left it at the front desk. I felt a little bad about making the staff go through the trouble each time, but they were all pleasant and professional. The breakfast buffet may look small, but it has a full selection and is delicious. There's a good variety of sweet pastries and breads. I haven’t compared this hotel’s location, quality, class, or service to other nearby five-star hotels, but the price is about half of those. Considering that, I think it offers a great value and a very comfortable stay.
- susanpH4879YY (10/5): Magnificent hotel in the heart of Milano - As soon as we walked into the Grand Hotel de Milan we were greeted with warm Milanese hospitality and were immediately blown away by the beauty and grandeur of the hotel’s magnificent lobby - it felt like we were taking a step back in time (in the best way possible). We were escorted to our beautiful room that was so lovely and well appointed. The entire staff was extremely attentive give during our entire stay, especially the concierges who helped us find restaurants that were “off the beaten path” and neighborhoods that we wanted to explore. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet - it was fabulous. I will recommend the Grand Hotel de Milan to everyone I know and will most definitely be back - it truly is an all-around fantastic hotel in heart of the beautiful city of Milano.
