Guest Reviews
- C (10/5): One night stay on a biking trip. - Previous online reviews I read were not so good, but completely unfounded.
We found it to be a charming little hotel. Front of house and reception staff couldn’t have been more helpful.
Room very small but for the price we paid was perfectly good. Very clean, quiet, comfortable bed. Great shower.
Many thanks. Will come again
- Alba (10/5): - El precio tan adsequivle y la facilidad de reservar y hacer el chek-un y chek-out.
- Kilian (10/5): - Está ubicado en un sitio muy natural y muy tranquilo.
- Agustin (10/5): Muy bien - Todo bien
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not exciting at all - The guy from Honduras upon checking in was not welcoming at all. Gave us room next to elevator which we refused got a room on attic which was not ready. His colleague from Spain is nice and helpful.
Trato familiar. repetiremos
- JEAN-JACQUES (6/5): - hôtel correct bon rapport qualité prix
- David (8/5): - Room was good for the price but breakfast not good
- MrSchnow (2/5): Quirky old hotel - The Hotel Antic is a shabby 1970s hotel located on the side of the road running along a river valley. The road is not too noisy/busy and the mountain views are good. There is a free ski bus to/from Arcalis but you really need your own transport since there is nothing else around the hotel.
The old Manager claims it’s a “family” hotel which seems her justification to run the hotel for the benefit of the staff rather than the guests. An old dog has free rein so when it’s not laying down blocking the narrow corridors it’s on the only sofa sleeping, farting, snoring or barking. Not aggressive but it is a golden Labrador so it sheds hair continually adding to the overall grubbiness.
The Antic has a long maintenance list suggesting years of underinvestment. Inside the bedrooms the furniture and fittings are old and decrepit. Blankets and sheets rather than a duvet cover rock hard mattresses. The sewer smells inside the upstairs corridors make you gag however you get little sympathy from the staff who simply shrug it off as country life in Andorra.
The kitchen uses the cheapest and easiest to cook food ingredients. The Long-life bread products taste as stale on the first day as on the last. Few people in my group (53 adults and children) ate much because it was variously undercooked, overcooked or lacked a palatable taste or flavour. The nightly full food waste bin irritated the hotel staff who felt insulted the guests didn’t like their food.
After being served sausages Wednesday night we were dismayed to be given the warmed up uneaten sausages again on Thursday. Later that evening we subsequently tried to organise a take-away pizza delivery but the hotel manager got very upset and offered us a nice meal the following night to make up for the sausages.
We had no idea.
The pièce de résistance was euphemistically called “burger and chips”. It consisted of a pink-grey slab of mechanically recovered meat by-product lurking in a bun and accompanied by a small packet of discount store crisps. (No deep fat fryer = no chips.) The vegetarians had a special treat too, a gruesome chickpea stew alternative. The less said about this the better.
As we were preparing to leave (escape?) the hotel supervisor had a random and inexplicable rant about our group having “no respect for the rights of workers” before running off in tears into the kitchen. (Not eating up all their lovingly prepared food perhaps? Who would know?)
The spectre of the Hotel Antic remained with us all the way home since a number in our party succumbed to a bout of sickness and diarrhoea on the coach in the middle of the night. That journey will not be forgotten in a hurry...
Would I go there again?
May 2019 a new hotel manager takes over so if the hotel is properly refurbished and new staff employed and trained then yes, why not? Andorra is a lovely country; it was just the diabolical food at the Antic that wrecked it for us.
- Char1205 (2/5): A Promising Start That Sloped Downhill - When we first arrived at the Hotel, the staff could not have been more attentive and welcoming, and rooming were quickly allocated. We were part of a trip with a big group, and they went out of their way to make us very welcome.
We were given Wi-fi. However, were warned to use it sparingly because it could crash at any moment. The issue was, it barely worked above the first floor.
As soon as I got into the room, I was greeted with the most horrific stench in the bathroom that made me gag. I immediately went down and was offered another room. However, it smelt just as bad. When I queried the staff about this, they simply shrugged and said there was nothing they could do- and that they would put some spray in there (which they didn’t, and every morning to afternoon the place reeked).
The decor was rustic at the very best, but outdated and a lot of cracks in tiles and rickety beds meant that we were not at ease at all. The floors were clearly not clean, as we were asked to wear slippers around the hotel. Mine were new, and by the end they were absolutely filthy. The water was temperamental for showers and the grout around the sides was very off-putting.
The bar area was nice enough, and we spent most evenings in there. The only downside of this was that we were asked to move several times because the staff wanted to eat their meals. Now, I don’t begrudge the staff having food, but there were several other unused areas that they could eat in, yet decided to occupy an extremely populated area in the hotel.
The biggest disappointment of all were the meals provided. The breakfast was repetitive and tiresome (there’s only so many coco pops and stale bread you can take). The first night was absolutely delightful, as there were delicious meatballs on offer. However, after our group had taken a disliking to a meal the third night, it was simply reheated and served up again- and when we complained, they seemed to take great offence.
Overall, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again- there needs to be some serious refurbishment and some fresher food on the menu.
- Lkcghnm (2/5): My experience there - When I first walk out of the bus to enter the hotel I already smelt cow poo. And as I rushed inside to get the keys and go to my room I saw holes and dents around the room and I had to write down where they were so they wouldnt charge me for damaging property. And on the website it says free wi-fi but when I asked for it they never gave it to me because it apparently wasn’t working. And the food for dinner and breakfast was plain and repetitive as it was always the same disgusting food and I even found a hair in my spaghetti.
- SapiensTravel (10/5): Small family hotel with excellent service and atmosphere. - Based in La Cortinada, nearly by Ordino, and way to Arcalis ( the best ski resort in Andorra ). You will be offered clean rooms, delicious food, great atmosphere, peace and seclusion around. You can sleep in complete silence, as in paradise. The hostess and the staff are very attentive and polite, will answer any of your questions and will help. I recommend to visit.
- Gooooga (8/5): Warm Cataluniyan hospitality - We felt at home with Rosa and her family who hosted us with all their heart and made an effort to cater to all our needs. The lovely home-cooked dinner and the generous breakfast were just what we needed at this stop on our trek on the GR11! e
- jalaliqbal (6/5): small room , over priced - the room was super small for 3 adults and a kid. it was clean. WC was good. but space was very less. it was very cold, so we had to ask for a heater. price was way too much. located just beside the main road, so was very easy to locate. Check in was smooth. ladies sitting the entry was kind and helpful they serve breakfast, which i feel was very expensive as well. wifi was not stable in 1st floor. well it has free parking place.
- FieldFace (10/5): Fantastic Value and great staff - We came here for a few nights as a group of 4 adults and 3 young children. We had 2 triple rooms the rooms where clean and comfy the restaurant was nice and the staff could not be more helpful and the price was fantastic.
- JackoGit (10/5): Comfortable atmosphere - Great place to stay! Real nice atmosphere with the workers in the hotel. Nice basic breakfast and great evening meals. Definitely recommended for families and friends staying in the winter season to go to the ski resorts as the bus stops right outside the hotel to take you 10 mins up to Arcalis ski resort. Also Pal-Arinsal is just a few minutes down the road which is a good back-up resort. I stayed here for a week and nothing bad to say about this hotel.
- BarceLove (10/5): Hotel Antic - Great choice. - Very nice atmosphere, clean rooms, excellent cuisine.
Good location, and very favorable prices.
Breakfast and dinner are included.
From the capital of Andorra to go 20 minutes.
Recommended for a quiet family holiday.
- reimira (6/5): A nice, low-budget place to stay - We stayed here one night during our road trip in France and Spain. Unfortunately our arrival in La Cortinada got quite delayed and we continued towards Spain early in the morning, so we didn't have much time here. The staff was very welcoming and nice, and I rather liked the bar/restaurant area (would've been nice to get to try the food but we were too late for that) where me and my boyfriend had a beer before heading to shower & bed. Our room was okay, although my bed was extremely squeaky, haha. The beds otherwise were of average comfort. Views are amazing in La Cortinada, and it was great to wake up and look out and see mountains! The breakfast was alright, nothing special but nothing to complain about either. All in all I would say that for our purposes (a cheap place to sleep during a road trip) this was a great choice.
It was a bit difficult to find Antic though; the location/coordinates were incorrect (although this we knew already when we were on our way, but we still had difficulties and couldn't find it before we called the host and asked for additional directions). Might be they've managed to fix this, but I'd advise you check it out before heading there (especially if you're driving)!
- JohnW761 (8/5): Great Value - We only stayed for one night, however very impressed with the staff on reception and in the bar area.Room was very comfortable with a nice view from our window. The price was fantastic considering the Tour de France was in town at that very time.Perfect for our overnight stay before driving in to France.
- merlinohad (10/5): “Staff is truly amazing, great pricing but nothing at a walking distance” - Other than the beautiful and cozy rooms and great prices, this place is all about the staff.
The receptionist Rosa was truly an angel: besides helping us with directions and recommendations for hikes, she literally drove after us and found us some 4 hours after we left to deliver us a passport we hadn't even noticed that we forgot in one of our rooms.
This is way more than you could expect from your regular hosts and we are truly grateful for this.
On the downsides, the town of La Cortinada isn't really that interesting and it's a bit remote from everything, and the Wifi is strong only in the common areas.
- sebkpg (10/5): The most welcoming place! - We stopped by the place to have a drink and get a chance to see the Tour de France nearby, and we ended up spending the entire day with the most welcoming hotel owners and staff (and clients from all over the world, i.e. Belgium, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Spain, Colombia, Japan, and Australia).
It did not matter whether people stayed at the hotel or not, whether they ordered drinks and food or not, or only used the place to watch the race on TV, and wait for the cyclists to ride past outside of the hotel: Rosa and the staff were genuinely great hosts to all of us!
- vistorpe (8/5): the hotel is OK, more than expected despite some issues - Although the elevator was off-service on our check out, the beds were not so bad and the breakfast wasn't thatgood, I enjoyed a lot this place enough for traveling, skiing near vallnord-ordino/arcalis and staying calm. The service was right and kind people.
- mohiki79 (10/5): Budget accomodation for skiing - Located half way between both areas of Vallnord (Arcalis and Pal-Arinsal), this hotel is very recomendable for skiing. Breakfast and dinner was buffet and despite not being splendid it was nice...specially after a full ski day. Service was very good, staff was prompt and was greeting you every time you cross them. Apart from that...beds could be more comfortable and if you are not planning on skiing theres not much to do in that area. Another plus is there is a free bus stop in front of the hotel to go straight to the ski court.
- annie1254 (10/5): HOME AWAY FROM HOME - A 2 Star HotelLthat delivers more than a five star hotel..in a five star hotel you dont get the warmth and attention you get here....Rosa is very accomodating, very honest, and veryY friendly woman and owner of this establishment..her husband is the chef and i take my hat off to the chef who prepares very delicious 4 course meals just like home and more...Prices are more than reasonable and even cheap..The very charming and friendly son Miguel Tends to you with drinks and even their lovely and delicious food or even an intellectual conversationabout T history or even life....I will certainly reccommend this experience to everyone and will surely go
back for more ....Thank you for everything
