Guest Reviews
- Dejan (9/5): An unconventional hotel with six rooms on the third floor in an old building but with great charm. - The hotel is located on the third floor of a building in a dense and busy neighbourhood with plenty of noise but this was not a problem as the nights we quiet and calm. The beds were comfortable and clean and the staff was exceptionally hospital, polite and helpful. I would like to express special thanks to Mohamed and Bahaa who did everything they could to make us feel welcome and pleasant. The location is excellent if you want to explore an extremely busy Cairo and tis is what we wanted to do in the first place. One of the appliances broke during our stay but was quickly fixed.
- Paula (4/5): Ridiculously overpriced for a very average room where the staff don’t bother cleaning. - Location was good There was nowhere to eat breakfast other than trying to sit on the bed, trying to balance a huge tray. The staff suggested eating on the balcony, but the table and chairs were filthy out there.
The shower unit was so small that when you showered, there was wet shower curtain constantly slapping against your body (yuk!) and the floor flooded every time.
Also for the first three days, nobody cleaned the room, gave us clean towels, or even replaced the toilet roll. On our last day, a different, older guy appeared. I asked him about these issues and he said “well of course, it’s your right to have clean towels and the room cleaned. You don’t need to ask so politely”. Well nobody bothered doing it before he turned up!!

- YvetteVM (7/5): Tevreden - Het ontbijt was goed.

- Elena (10/5): Precious - The kindness of the staff was precious! We had long talks with Bahaa and Josef (sorry if i spelled wrongly the names). They helped us in every occasion and made our stay so pleasant that we left there a piece of our heart.
Truly recommended.

- Tor Steffen (10/5): Recommended! - The host and staff were very accommodating and helpful. The host was very engaged in making my stay in Cairo as good as possible by giving advice, explanations, and suggestions. The location is very good in downtown Cairo. Breakfast was excellent!
- John James (8/5): Feeling welcome in Cairo - Crown Hotel is well located. Easy access to the main sightseeing spots and museums.
The manager is really welcoming and always ready to help. On the third day he prepared us a tasty and filling Egyptian breakfast that we thoroughly enjoyed (we liked the fact that breakfast is served directly to the room). He spent time for us to suggest things to see and do and how to get there. Everything done with great heart and care. Aspects that I really appreciate and in nowadays is not so easy to find.
The beds were comfy and I slept really well. Truly surprised because in Cairo, is really a city that never sleeps.
I can be sure that in Cairo, quality/price wise, this is a really good accomodation.
Thank you again to the Manager and the team. Noise issue, but I think this is Cairo. A city that truly never sleeps. Hotel cannot do anything about it.
- Jorge Marcos (9/5): Location and friendly - Location and very friendly staff The old Cairo
- Yurii (10/5): 4* level of rooms, city center, professional management - Clean rooms, very professional manager at reception name Yusuf.
- Rizzotto (7/5): -
- Rémy (10/5): - Très bel accueil, très sympathique.
A very warm welcome, very friendly.
- noor azmi (9/5): Very comfortable stay, the double balcony was awesome - Everything, the staff are very nice people, attentive to our needs. Breakfast was delicious. However two items need improvement as in the comments below Old dust on some of the furniture .
Bathroom easily wet

- Dmitriisapelkin (10/5): -
- Maciej_pl_ (2/5): Disappointing - - very good, central location
- good air conditioning - wrong room description: I booked a Deluxe room with balcony but it turned out that there was no balcony
- hotel staff assured me that they can upgrade me to a twin room with a balcony free of charge which I didnt mind
- upon arrival I was given a single room with a window facing internal dirty patio
- the room I paid for was made available to a guest whose flight was departing late in the afternoon so I had to be in a single room because of that (here comes a total lack of professionalism from the hotel staff because they lied multiple times about when my room would be available. My flight was also late at night but i booked an additional night just to be able to stay in the room and take a shower in the evening before leaving)
- when I finally moved into my room at 19:00 ( I arrived at 13:00 in the hotel) it was dirty, there was hair on the bedsheets of the previous guest, his clothes in the wardrobe and dirty boxers in the bathroom along with a used towel - what kind of hotel would a new guest in without checking the state of the room
- I had an impression the staff is there not to assist guest and provide service but to enjoy each others company. They bring in friends, sit on sofas and talk, I didnt see any of them working except the time I was given breakfast
- WIFI did not work most of the time - I was told it would be fixed soon - never happened
- time is interpreted very freely by the staff - 'in 5 minutes means maybe 40 minutes maybe 1hr' - everytime

- Ieva (10/5): Exceptional - I would like to thank all the hotel staff for the wonderful welcome. We felt like family from the first moment. I especially want to mention Ahmed Alshi, who was a wonderful friend throughout my stay. He made sure I felt at home and even worried about me in the evening - this just shows how much attention and care was put into my stay. I also want to mention that the maids were truly amazing and took care of my every need. Although it is a pity that I cannot speak Arabic, it did not diminish my experience at all - everyone was very kind and helpful. I experienced so many good emotions that I even decided to come back here soon. Thank you for this wonderful experience! its just ben shot holiday
- Petros (9/5): Nice location, very kind and helpful staff. - Location, very kind and helpful staff. It would be nice a bit more space / furniture for breakfast.
- Petros (9/5): Very nice location, very kind and helpful staff. - Location, very kind and helpfull staff. It would be nice to have a bit more space/ furniture for the breakfast.
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing, delicious vegetarian breakfast - and huge! It did me for lunch too.
Gorgeous fresh mango juice on check in.
I was upgraded to a larger room free of charge.
It has the charming feel of a small family run place and the staff are very obliging. Breakfast arrived much later than I had requested it the night before - but it was worth the wait, so all good!
- Artur (9/5): Superb - Spent 8 nights at Crown with my teenage daughters, and it was a lovely stay!
The staff was young and friendly, especially Ahmed. He gave us useful tips and recommendations, and if we missed breakfast due to an early day trip, he'd surprise us in the evening with desserts and refreshments. He even helped get our laundry cleaned after a desert trip. Always ready to help but never intrusive – and he was the only person in Egypt who didn’t accept tips!
The area felt safe and was also very accessible (if there’s such a thing in Cairo). It was relatively quiet, except when Salah played for Liverpool—then the neighbourhood came alive!
The building itself may be early 20th-century European—you could politely call it "faded grandeur", but I loved its style. The iron cage vintage lift was charming, though if you’re not into adventures, you can take the stairs to the third floor, where the hotel is located. The other floors are occupied by local businesses with friendly owners, which added to the place’s character.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere here! Would definitely recommend it.
- Wanda (9/5): Superb - The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean and quiet. The breakfast was very good.
- Kamilla (8/5): Very good - The hotel is in a perfect place to discover Cairo. The staff is very friendly and helpful, we even got a free upgrade. The room was clean and spacious and the bed was comfortable. We got good breakfast to the room every morning. The bathroom could have been more comfortable, but it was fine.
The street was noisy, but it was worth it for the good location.
- Brandi (10/5): Wonderful service, rooms as advertised. - The staff at Crown Hotel went above and beyond to meet our needs and expectations. We arrived early in the morning before our room was ready, and the staff allowed us to use a different room to freshen up and use the bathroom. We left our luggage at the hotel during the day before our room was ready.
The room was nicely decorated and comfortable, with many small touches. There is even a small balcony off of the rooms. The heat was much appreciated overnight in December, and there were additional blankets and pillows should we have needed them. There was a fridge and the staff gave us waters upon arrival.
In a sea of questionable reviews and false advertising for Cairo Hotels, Crown Hotel did provide a great service for a great value. The rooms were per the description and the staff were very helpful. I would stay here again. Everything was great.
- Martin (9/5): Superb - They checked us the railwayticket from Cairo to Alexandria..very friendly service, good location in the center. Just a little critic...we told them to have vegetarian breakfast..unfortunately two times there was a little slice sausage on the plate but the rest is vegetarian:-)
- Eva (10/5): Very comfy and vfm place in downtown Cairo! - Crown hotel is at a very central location of downtown Cairo but on a street that isn’t as busy as the main ones. Walking distance to the Egyptian museum and Khan al khalili. The room was clean, quiet and very comfortable! The breakfast was great and the also offered free bottles of water (first time this occurs to me in Egypt!) and amazing mango juice upon arrival! The staff was very nice and accommodating. We surely recommend this place!
- Svetlana (1/5): Not worthy at all - Absolutely nothing Lazy personnel who is not helpful at all. The hotel occupies one floor in a building and looks more like a communal shared apartment with separate rooms where you can hear your neighbors from all around. It is poorly furnished with interior reminding rather an old country house where the hosts decided to stock old furniture. There was no toilet paper when we arrived and we had to ask for it. This type of living should cost 20 euro max and is not worthy of what we paid. Horrible impression from the city. If we are ever in Cairo we’d rather stay in the famous hotel chain
- Denise (9/5): Friendly helpful staff, convenient location - Family feel, friendly staff, like to help. Kindly provided little gifts such as free dessert brought to room, coffee offered after returning from sightseeing, I stayed for the location to walk to the main train station as well as many other things but Reception called Uber for me to go to the station, very convenient.
Very nice breakfast delivered to room. Hotel is in Old heritage style building, entrance feels old with old style lift, but always people down stairs to help and the floor where hotel is is nicely decorated. Booking.com said all rooms have balcony and view but my single room had only small window to a wall and no natural light, also cigarette smell, maybe from street below.very small shower/toilet if that's an issue. the second day I was upgraded to a nice larger room with 3
windows.
No restaurant if that's an issue.
- Anselm (10/5): Exceptional - Located at downtown Cairo and like in the center of all attractions. You can reach old egypt museum and Khan el-Khalili bazaar by foot. Short taxi ride to Muhammad Ali Mosque. Close to highway to Giza. It is also a bank district so lots of ATMs around.
Very friendly staff and nice clean rooms in the 3rd floor (there is a lift) of a magnificent 19th century building. Located in a side road and so enough distance to traffic. Sanitary facilities clean and working fine.
Highly recommended.
- Ismail (6/5): Pleasant stay at downtown - Staff is very helpful. The location is good if you look for somewhere in downtown. The street is noisy and the sound isolation is poor
- Fereshteh (5/5): Good location, very kind and helpful staff but they need to improve their bathroom and the quality of their breakfast. - The location was good and staff very very kind and helpful. What I didn’t like was their bathroom, it was small and awkward shape and small. Water pressure wasn’t good and the temperature of the water kept changing.
The other thing was their breakfast, it wasn’t what they advertised. I was disappointed with their breakfast.
- Victor (8/5): Fine pit stop in downtown Cairo - Small 1-floor budget hotel located in downtown Cairo, convenient to catch an uber or go to the ATM a block away. It is located on the third floor but there is a small elevator so no stairs needed thankfully. Also, I came late in the night from my flight, and there was someone to check me in and offer a free welcome juice drink. The internet was decent. The breakfast was delivered to my room and of surprisingly good quality. Bed was pretty comfortable. Not really within the management's control, but water pressure was very weak during daytime. There is a nearby mosque that started announcing the morning prayers at 430 AM in addition to traffic and dogs barking nearby, so I recommend wearing ear plugs to sleep.
- Michaela (7/5): Welcoming staff but noisy and smelly stay - Very helpful and welcoming staff Could improve on overall cleaning and keeping surfaces in room sweeped and dusted. Constant sewer smell in the bathroom - and into the whole room. Not a quiet location - earplugs reccomended
- Peter (1/5): Awful. Do not stay here. - Nothing. The location and facilities were so bad we didn't stay, but still got charged for the 3 nights we'd booked. The location is down a dingy, dark alley. The "hotel" takes about 1/2 a floor this office building. The elevator is extremely dodgy/unsafe. The breakfast was offered to be eaten in our room or reception. The room was very noisy with traffic noise.
I have no idea how booking.com rates this as superb, 9.3. I think their families must have been writing fake reviews.
No refund has been received.
- Ayah (8/5): Very good - Location is near to downtown
The room is big and clean
The staff are kind and friendly Nothing
- Nichola (10/5): First day in Egypt ever. Staff made us feel very safe with advice. - Incredibly helpful staff. Where to go and eat. Went above and beyond.
- Ozzymike (9/5): Superb -
- Marnie (10/5): Great place to stay for your trip to Cairo. - I loved everything about this property. A small and intimate and friendly property. Very attentive, friendly, and helpful staff. Great location to walk to many things, including a bustling downtown. But neighborhood is safe and with the windows closed very quiet. Nothing
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, amazing staff, very clean room! Highly recommended if you want to stay in Cairo and explore the city! Again; location and staff are amazing! Near main road, but on a quiet street. Had good night rests during all my nights. Good fresh breakfast :)))
- Bastien (10/5): Exceptional - It feels like home!
Super nice staff, very clean room and comfortable beds.
We'll go back to Crown Hotel for our next visit to Cairo.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - The room was spacious with lovely decor and had not one but two balconies where we could have breakfast. The location was perfect and once we mastered the layout of the streets, we could walk or take the metro to pretty much anywhere. As for the staff, they went above and beyond. Nothing was too much trouble for them and all the little extras such as arranging for an Egyptian breakfast, welcome drinks and arranging transport were very much appreciated. We would definitely go back.. Everything was great.
- Lois (9/5): Excellent service, very central location - Breakfast was fresh and delicious. Similar breakfast platter to others I’ve had in Egypt, but this came with more fresh fruit, fresh juice, it was lovely.
Hotel staff were so accommodating and helpful. They gave us recommendations for the area, extra drinks and water when we asked, and assisted us with anything we asked about. Service was 10/10.
This place is probably the best we could get in Cairo without booking a 5* hotel. Room was a bit dated and Egyptian beds are more solid than we were used to. However, it met our needs well and compared to a couple of stays in Egypt, this was by far the best experience.
- Yulia (10/5): We we’re staying for 2 nights in February. From the first moment we felt like home. The staff was so friendly- helped us - The location was excellent! Tahrir square and the metro station is in 10 min walk. McDonald’s is 10 min walk. The staff is so friendly and helpful! Surely recommend this place. Can not add anything.
- Yingshuo (10/5): Exceptional - 100% recommended, not only because central and quite location, friendly stuff, delicious breakfast, but also for care to guest, flexibility, and honest attitude for lost and found service.
Hope your business goes better and better Toilet is a bit narrowed.
- Fernando (9/5): Two happy days - Very nice staff. Excellent breakfast. Noise from the street the first night
- Ben (10/5): Worth the money and very nice staff - Staff were amazing. Very friendly and we’re always happy to help. They provided a breakfast every morning which is brought to your room and the room was spacious and clean. Value for money I would say 10/10. I can’t think of anything. There were no issues.
- Gianbattista (7/5): Good - staff were very good, willing to help us in a couple af problems we had during our stay, the only inconvenient was that the hotel is located in the center of Cairo, which is very noisy until late hours we stayed only 1 night, had the stay been longer it would have been a problem
- Daren (5/5): Shame on you - Had previously rated Crown a 10 on stay about a year ago. Facilities are roughly same but maybe aging a bit. However what really was disturbing is the insistence i paid usd cash this trip and they would not take my card. Then proceeded to encourage me to exchange a little extra. Did so at the official rate. I was only aware of the black market rate after my stay which is currently 100% higher. My bad for not knowing but shame on Crown for effectively stealing
- Koenraad (10/5): Exceptional - Very helpfull staff - very clean and nice room
- François (8/5): Good option for central Cairo - The location is central and perfect to reach almost all must-visit sites by walking (souq khan al khalili, mosques, zamalek etc etc).
The staff is very nice and helpful and will be very happy to give recommendations and assistance.
While you won’t be given option for your breakfast food, it is of good quality, home-made and copious. This is technically not a hotel but an apartment on the third floor of the building converted into a guest house. While this makes it a cosy place, you will hear everything from your co-guests or from the kitchen.
More attention should be given to cleanliness and efforts should be made in the bathroom to get more water pressure.
Slightly over-priced
- Gopalakrishnan (5/5): Poor hotel with great staff - Excellent and helpful staff, who went the extra mile. The approach is from a very crowded and dusty street. Ramshackle building houses the hotel in the 3rd floor with 6 rooms, no more! No common space, no room for table and chairs in the room. Breakfast served and taken on the bed. Cramped accommodation, no restaurant attached, no other services. Poor breakfast.
- Manju (9/5): Superb - Staff were exceptional and exemplary in their behaviour. Nothing was too much for them . All the rooms are on the 3 rd floor . Breakfast was provided in one’s room. No dedicated dining room or restaurant. Some of the rooms are quite small . The hotel was homely and the warmth of the staff was personal and was so impressive that nothing else mattered. Would go back any day purely for this . In a very congested area. No restaurant. Staff brought in whatever was requested for meals
