I had to ask several times for a bed to be put in our room for our grown up daughter, even though I confirmed the booking was for three people prior to arrival . I found that the staff were ok , not great . I just felt their service was perfunctory and not the standard expected . Breakfast was again just ok . It could be so much better . Three people on a table designed for two is eminently unsuitable, especially when staff were so slow at removing dirty plates . Also the pastry and bread choices were very limited. Absolutely not value for money . Poor.

All the taxes that are added on at the end, rates should include the taxes, after all they don’t change?

Robert (5/5): Overpriced with a sloppy housekeeping staff - The hotel has a high concept interior design - it's like walking into a Wes Anderson film. But I don't like Wes Anderson movies. Great attention to design details in the restaurant and main floor lobby. High quality fabrics used on the dining room chairs. Great subway access just one-half block away allows a two-stop arrival in the theater district. Housekeeping was a total bust. They twice cleaned the room but neglected to refill the coffee maker with fresh capsules or take away the used ones. They also left our dirty coffee cups sitting on the credenza. And one night, after turndown service, there were long black hairs in one of the bathroom sinks - a total ick moment. The total paid for a four night stay was $6,000. That money would be better spent at the Baccarat which I plan to return to. Also, after one breakfast in the dining room, we vowed never to return.

GulliverDS (4/5): Fourth time is definitely not the charm at this hotel. - This was probably our fourth time staying at this hotel. Unfortunately, 4th is not a charm! When we initially arrived with our car, there were pylons in the street in front of the hotel, and in order for us to stop and unload our bags, these pylons needed to be removed. Despite our sounding the horn, no one from the hotel came out to help, so my wife found herself moving the pylons on her own. The junior suite that we had reserved was comfortable enough, however, the issues we had with the hotel were largely with the restaurant. We had breakfasts and a food allowance since we booked through AMEX and these credits were for the Fine Resorts and Hotels program. Two days in a row for breakfast, we had disappointing service coupled with incompletely cooked dishes. The first day, the problem was with pancakes that were not cooked throughout. When being sent back, there was an inordinate delay in getting a new order, and I finished my breakfast and basically stared at empty plates for 20-25 minutes. During this somewhat extended delay, I requested another pot of coffee, with this request basically forgotten. We did speak with the restaurant manager, who apologized profusely. Thinking that this couldn’t happen again, the next morning we had a bit of a repeat performance, This time it was basically cold sides of grilled tomatoes and portobello mushrooms — these being intended to be hot, with the rest of the meal. Again, extraordinarily inattentive service. Speaking again with the restaurant manager, I asked him why they (1) automatically add a 20% service charge, even when the service is anything but befitting a generous tip, and (2) have the audacity to exclude the MANDATORY gratuity from the breakfast and food allowance, requiring us to pay for the gratuity on our checkout. He did agree to provide us with credit for these charges, however, to our surprise, such credit was not reflected on our bill upon checkout. For the third day, the hotel manager came to our table and told us that he hoped that we would receive good service on this third day, and was apologetic. When asked whether there might be some expression of good faith concession on our bill, he handed us his business card and essentially said, contact him if/when we might come back to the hotel. I told him that we might have a different view of returning if some concession commensurate with the poor service had been provided, but none was forthcoming. In the category of another annoyance, the room charges from the mini bar are not counted towards the $100 per day food and beverage credit for the AMEX Fine Resorts and Hotels program. I made the mistake of taking a Celsius drink on the first day, which amounted to the princely sum of $10 — and no credit. This is a tacky policy, particularly for a room for which we charged approximately $1,000 per night. On the positive side, the hotel and our room were nicely furnished, and the food was not bad (except for the dishes cited above in the breakfasts). Would we return, most likely not.

Richard-IV-NL (10/5): Fabulous hotel and experience - Where to start? We visited the Whitby in August 2022 and still experience after-glow. Everything was a delight from checking in, the Deluxe Room on the top floors to the amazing breakfast and the bone China designed by Kit Kemp which made breakfast a feast for the eyes. Did we mention the delicious food? Even though it was too hot outside most of the times, it was pleasant to be able to open a window. The bathroom was excellent (we didn't miss a tub which we usually do). The room and hotel are as splendid as they look on the photos. Super helpful staff (so helpfull that it is a shame that we have forgotten some of their names). Wonderful mattress and sleep experience. The location is perfect if you want to visit... Manhattan. The MoMa, Central Park, all a stone throw away. Why not stroll to the Metropolitan Museum or the Guggenheim, about a 30-35 min walk away? We immediately felt at home, and also important: at ease, in this luxurious hotel which was a bit above our means but we had something to celebrate. If we have something to celebrate again we would love to return.

107robbb (10/5): Family Christmas Trip - We took a family road trip from Richmond to NYC over 6 days and a new hotel each night. Our final stop was at the Whitby for two nights. We somewhat knew what to expect with a Firmdale property, but I’ll have to say I’m sold on the Whitby. They expected us, knew our names, welcomed us like family (there was 10 of us). The rooms were exceptional, and staff was incredible. If your in the fence about it, hands down it’s the best place we’ve stayed in NYC and we’ve stayed at all of them. Thanks for a great trip guys!

The Whitby will rank as one of very best places I have ever stayed. The decor is unique throughout the public areas (as it is in every room, which I saw when I was given a “tour”). The staff without exception are charming and helpful and respond to every request with lightening speed. The room we stayed in, a junior suite, was roomy, bright and beautifully furnished and comfortable. The bathroom was large and exquisite with wonderful modern vintage replicas of sinks, taps and fittings with a roomy powerful shower and delightful liquid “extras”. The cupboards were spacious and well lit Moving on to the bar and restaurant, they were again beautiful rooms almost always “buzzy” with outstanding service and a very “modern” choice of food. There is a very well equipped gym in the lower ground floor And, I almost forgot the wonderful location, virtually on 5th Avenue. We will wholeheartedly recommend this property to our clients

FlyinFinn1 (10/5): Excellent Midtown Hotel with Amazing Style - Excellent hotel in midtown with amazing style. While boutique, it worked very well for me for business in the area. I did not like my first room because it was on a lower floor facing the loud street (those garbage trucks at night in the city). I asked for a higher floor and they immediately upgraded me to a terrace room on the back side which was stunning. Nicely done. Service was very attentive and the room service was good (not great) but delivered quickly. Their signature bath scents are superb, beds soft and again I love the decor which feels very residential and upscale.

And excellent, very friendly and unfailingly helpful staff. Room 1007 is an absolute delight and as a fan of artist Holly Frean, I was delighted to find a large dog painting on our wall. Sheer perfection! Thank you also to Bianca for her help.

Felicitas (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the friendly and happy design of the hotel and rooms; it was extravagant and gave a good feeling. Employees especially concierge have been very helpful and friendly. we loved the walking distance to central park in the morning and the live jazz evening in the hotel bar for evening. i was surprised about the silence in the rooms, especially since we have been so centrally located. We loved our terrace to sit in the mornings or evenings. we will be back again! it was sometimes challenging to get someone on the phone (room service) at busy hours. but whenever i went to the reception, people were more than helpful - outstanding helpful.

The hotel is in a Great location, right near 5 th ave, the staff is lovely and helpful, the rooms are spacious, comfortable, immaculate and well appointed, I slept well as great sleep quality! The restaurant is excellent! The food is delicious and inventive. Hope to return soon.

Hiroshi (9/5): Definitely, Firmdale Group - It is a member of the Firmdale Hotels group, and its atmosphere, facilities, and services are almost the same as those of the Haymarket Hotel, which is also a member of the Firmdale Hotels group. The staff is friendly and helpful, and when I asked for something, they were quick to respond. I had to leave my key with them every time I went out, but I guess many people remember the room numbers of guests and their room numbers, so when I came back from outing and went to the reception, I found my key right away. The heating mechanism of the towel rack (towel rail) was stopped, although this may be unavoidable since it was summer. It was a bit disappointing, as a warm towel rack is a pleasant thing. Also, there was no tea or coffee in the room, so I asked for a tea set (tea tray). It was nice that they brought it to me right away, but I was disappointed that it did not come with a milk pot or that the set was not updated daily. I am sure they would have done it if we had told them, but since our stay was short this time, we did not dare to request it either. In addition, we had mistakenly thought that all rooms in the Firmdale Hotel Group were equipped with a bathtub, so we were a little disappointed that there was no bathtub in this room, even though it was our own mistake.

Bianca Burgos and Jamar at the front desk are incredible and we’ll go above and beyond to make sure you have a great stay! They exceeded my expectations The room itself is incredible tastefully decorated and absolutely comfortable Great location, Central New York What more could you ask for? Incredible concierge. Reservations at an almost impossible place to book last minute. ! Highly recommended
C5400BXloril (10/5): Gorgeous hotel, friendly staff, great location - Just back from a perfect weekend in New York staying at the wonderful Whitby Hotel. It was our first time staying at The Whitby but we plan to return soon and often (we come to New York from Boston for theater and art weekends). The hotel is beautiful, comfortable and fun. Kit Kemp's design work is a feast for the eyes plus tremendously comfortable. The designs are bright, colorful and unexpected. No minimalist grey, black, white and beige. Our room on the 7th floor was filled with light coming in the huge window. Super comfortable bed and pillows. Beautiful bathroom. Every staff member we encountered was warm and lovely. Breakfast, (we had room service), was delicious - Burrata scrambled eggs and avocado toast. Delicious English Breakfast Tea (loose with a British tea strainer). Altogether a wonderful stay!

Ray (9/5): A memorable visit. - Beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The amenities and the spacious rooms are all top quality. The common areas are the best I’ve ever seen. The fitness room is well maintained with the best quality equipment. The bar was beautiful but the cocktails were small pours compared to the high pricing. Our room wasn’t ready so we were told we would be called when the room was ready. We walked around for almost two hours before deciding to go back and wait in the lobby until the room was ready. As we passed by the front desk: “ oh by the way your room is ready “.

Maria (9/5): This hotel was gorgeous and a incredible experience. - Staying at The Whitby was amazing! The service was outstanding. The front desk personnel, doormen, housekeepers, bar and cafe staff made for a comfortable and homelike experience. The room was clean, quiet and well organized. Every detail was simply perfect. The decor itself is a feast for the eyes. A top notch hotel. We know where we'll be staying next time we visit NYC. Dining is a bit expensive.
Room-in-my-suitcase (10/5): Stylish & Charming, One Of Soho's Best. - The gorgeous Whitby Hotel enjoys a prime address in the heart of NYC & and is a stones throw from the MOMA and just 2 blocks from Central park. This hotel is stacked with amenities like a Fitness Center, a Drawing Room lined with books ( that I loved), a 300 seat Whitby theater, 2 destination eateries: The Whitby Bar & Restaurant and the Orangery: and foremost, superior designed accommodations. My Junior Terrace Suite was so accommodating with high ceilings, and done up in dozens of vivid colors patterns, oversized steel industrial windows, artwork that was both quirky and elegant, bright patterned headboards and furniture that is a melange of modern and vintage. The pinnacle amenity; however, was the corner terrace overlooking Manhattan rooftops. The bath was fabulous with double sink, large marbleized shower and stand alone tub. The Whitby Bar & Restaurant is the culinary sweet spot of the Whitby as it sports it's American dishes through all dayparts and afternoon tea. The dinner menu showcases food fare such as grilled fish, steak as well as the likes of ossobuco agnolotti. I enjoyed the Squash Soup and Dover Soles. The Bar serves an exciting spritzes menu in addition to a complete list of inventive cocktails. The Orangery restaurant, a beauty, is decorated with ceramics etched with NYC landmarks. It serves snacks and small dishes and afternoon tea. So, if you want to be surrounded by a great, colorfully designed hotel............then try the.................Whitby Hotel...............stylish & charming, one of Soho's best.
MissJ26 (10/5): Fabulous stay! - Checked in late December after a particularly unpleasant stay at another mid town hotel. Thank goodness! Walking into the Whitby is like walking into another world off the grey streets of Manhattan. Kit Kemps design takes you into a fun, colourful oasis with ultra comfortable, quiet and spacious rooms and some impeccable staff members to match. Great location , a bit too close to phenomenal shopping and to Central Park. One of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve experienced although some wait staff could do with being a little more cheery. The bar always lively and atmospheric, love the live music! The bar tenders went above and beyond. The new year’s celebrations were wonderful! Always welcomed so warmly into the hotel by Paul and Jerry. I will absolutely make this my ‘go to’ when in NYC. Well done Kathrin & team !

Tea was a set price of $ 75 with various tea options. It was nice and satisfying. Bathrooms were private and very clean. Would go again. (Made a reservation)
