Guest Reviews
- David (4/5): Don’t stay here. - Small room, bathroom was a broken shower, toilet by side of shower and no room for a big guy to turn around to the wash basin. Size of a telephone box. Door to bathroom kicked in. No where to hang clothes. Table pockmarked with heat damage? Comforting bang of outside door every time someone cam up or went down stairs. Front door had to be slammed to close as it scratched the floor. Pillows were flat.
- Jennifer (4/5): - i didnt realize that this was a hostel type room.
It was quiet but very very basic, good thing i only needed to sleep after my long flight.
This wasn't the type of 'hotel' room youd wanna spend awake time in.
- Nathan (2/5): - I literally have no idea how the council hasn’t closed this place down. Lots of mould. Dark steep narrow stair cases where if you was to fall there’s a huge window left open at the bottom of you went through that it’s quite the drop!
- Mark (4/5): - Acceptable cleanliness; stair lighting broken on 2nd/3rd floors; noise from park outside. Locstion good for train stations and walking to Finsbury and Islington.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ideal for a one night stay. - Ideal budget friendly room. I was only staying in it for one night, was very practical for what i needed it for. Moderately comfortable bed and cozy. Fan and tv in the room was a nice touch.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Very dirty and disgusting place I ever seen . I didn’t even stay for an hour .
- Jill (10/5): No frills rooms for convenience - Friendly service. No frills. Simply rooms convenient and safe.
- Jill (10/5): London Rooms Convenient - London rooms located walking distance to main train station and restaurants with friendly service. No frills.
- rama (2/5): - Too much dusty, shower not working.
- Gary (2/5): - The reception staff for this property are amazing people but the the hygiene standards for KX rooms is extremely shocking! When I arrived to apparently a clean room I found chewing gum stuck on the wall, dust & dirt everywhere including the fan, tv, mirrors and even the sink. I know it’s a budget hotel but I’ve stayed in hostels that are cleaner than this place. After checking out the room I had to ask for cleaning materials just to clean my room before I stayed there.
Now onto the communal shower. The shower head didn’t work while the flooring is lifting up and you feel like you’re going to fall through to the next floor down.
All in all this property is now worth staying in just to save a few pounds. I can’t stress this enough to stay away and book somewhere that doesn’t have piss stains on the mattress topper!
- Jan (2/5): Worst place ever. Don’t waste your money. - It was the worst place I’ve ever stayed, and I have backpacked in New Delhi. Didn’t get a code despite having checked in online twice because my card hadn’t gone through. Why didn’t they ring??? Fire exit blocked. Fire door sign upside down behind the junk on the floor. Toilet filthy, no toilet paper. Shower ghastly, broken, didn’t drain, drain cover missing, standing water and a vile smell. No room to undress unless you stand in the shower. Fire safety notices in rooms not filled in. Window filthy and broken, repaired with tacky back. No soap or plug and another foul smell when the tap was run. Scaffolding outside so anyone could get in. All paint chipped and peeling. Walls and floor filthy. No mattress protector. Safe not fixed to wall. One cup which was cracked and dirty. Noisy floor and door. Sensor for lights didn’t work until second floor had to use my phone on the stairs. Finally -that awful crack den painting!!!! Chipped and foul. See pics I posted, not the hotel ones, don’t know where they took those.
- Ellen (2/5): - For this price (BP 100 per person) a bed of only 1,2 meters for 2 persons, a bathroom, smaller than in a camper, you couldn't close the door using the toilet. The shower & toilet together was max 1,5 meters wide. It was impossible using the shower without making everything wet.
I would not recommend this hotel. Pictures at the side are not according reality!
- SheffieldTopjoiner (2/5): Worse hotel/Hostel we’ve ever stopped in - Stopped here a few days ago, how this place is still open is beyond me.
From going down the tight stair case to ourRoom /Dungeon we couldn’t believe the state of the place.
The smell hits you going down the stair case and know different when entering our room 60.
The room was smelly and when entering the bathroom and toilet your greeted by the smell of mould and then looking at the ceiling there was mould and dirt all over the ceiling.
The toilet door and the bathroom door would not shut completely and you couldn’t sit on the toilet without banging your head on the door
The TV remote wouldn’t work, there was no door closer on the entrance fire door and the stair case fire door the place can’t operate without these items and needs closing down until rectified, my wife dropped her make up and it rolled under the small sette so we had to pull this out and once we’d done that we could see a empty vape and a pile of dust I don’t think this had been cleaned for months. At night we slept in our clothes we didn’t want to put the on the furniture or floor and to make matters worse this was advertised as a superior room. Hope you don’t ever visit anywhere as bad as this place
- Mary (6/5): - At 8pm arrival, reception was closed and the doors were locked and there were no responses to the phone numbers posted when we called. I found an email in my spam they had sent (from a different email) hours earlier with a code to enter. No staff to be found. The shower wouldn't drain, so it was unusable. There were bugs on the beds, in the towels and on the wall. We were too exhausted to find a new place, so we slept on top of the beds in our clothes and left early. Stellar location, and creative paint jobs, but too much of a hassle to gain entry.
- Verified traveler (4/5): No towel - The shower on my floor was out of order (maybe fixing it from when I stayed there a couple of months), but didn't matter as no towel was provided. Comfortable bed, but not being able to shower wasn't a great start to the day.
- atwistedtreep (2/5): Unsafe, unclean, uncontactable - Unsafe, unclean, uncontactable
This is the only time I have ever refused to stay in a hotel.
Putrid smell
Dark corridors
Same code for the front door and the bedroom
Dirty beyond belief
Felt like walking into a crack den
This is not a safe place and I would never step foot in it again
And there was no one to contact!
- Wassila (2/5): A eviter.
- Nicholas (8/5): Self service Hotel - Self check in worked out well. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Shared shower could do with a new hose and floor needs attention. Nearly knocked myself out on low door frame when the motion sensors didn't turn hallway lights on. But otherwise good value for the stay.
- Alejandro (10/5): - .
- Les (10/5): Great Value - A very good value room in a great location for access to public transport. The room is clean amd comfortable, which was perfect for our needs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Bien - La habitación estaba limpia, aunque la cama tenía alguna mancha.
Había calefacción así que no se pasa frío.
La ducha estaba regular pero para usarla una vez sin problema. El wc compartido estaba limpio.
- r0bin1992 (2/5): Do not book here! - We booked for 2 nights and honestly … I’ve stayed in cleaner and better accommodation in slums. The room was filthy, there was blood and other fluid splatters on the wall, dust bunnies on the floor and stains on the bed sheets & pillow cases. The toilet & shower was shared and again, filthy. The shower didn’t even have a basin it was just Lino on the floor and the wood was rotten underneath so felt like I was going to fall through & locks didn’t work as had people just walking in! It was more of a hostel except no reception or staff as you get given a code to enter and for your room. We were told to come at 3pm and instead arrived at 3:30pm and the girls still had all the bags of dirty washing in our room! DO NOT BOOK HERE, the only plus was it was a great location and matress was comfy (yet stained).
- Paul (4/5): Don’t Do It - Very poor, looks nothing like the photos in real life, it’s run down, dirty and the beds are terribly uncomfortable. £97 for that? I don’t think so. NEVER again
- Nicolalaud (4/5): Hope you don’t like showering - Overall the room is a cheap stay, I actually picked the room because it had better reviews than other more expensive hotels. However I felt it didn’t even offer the basics in a nice way. The shower was so dark with the light not really working, the handle hanging off and a strong smell of mould. The shower on the floor below was out of action. The floors (especially the stairs haven’t been hoovered in a while). The guy I spoke to stated what I expected for the price - really how much does it cost to pick up rubbish in your corridors from repairs?
- samanthamY5397XR (2/5): Would never recommend - I had booked this accommodation months in advance through booking.com I requested to change the date and booking. Com approved date change I had confirmation and confirmation of payment, once I turned up it was very late as I was travelling 10.30 pm and the owner advised it had been cancelled I said what ? I have proof of payment and accomodation dates he said nope you will have to ring booking. Com
Not my fault if you want to stay you can pay 130 pounds . So we ended up paying twice and we had no where else to go so we had no choice. He didn’t care, service was terrible also the room was very small and had a Portaloo like toliet with a tiny shower! Would never recommend staying there at all ! Ripp off I say !
- Verified traveler (2/5): - On arriving I found the sink blocked, no towels and there was a bad smell in the room (likely to be from the blocked sink).
Contacted reception which is in the next door hotel. No other rooms.
This is a budget hotel, right, so do keep this in mind when booking.
Only good thing is that it’s close to Kings Cross, but was up at 6 am and decided to find somewhere away from hotel to wait on my train later in the morning.
- davidfL2487GF (2/5): Go elsewhere - really. - Easily the worst place I’ve ever stayed! I’d rather pay double and go anywhere else. Filthy floor, curtains, tv and every other surface, graffiti style walls, doors and halls, three floors up without a lift. The electrics were suspect and in the event of a fire we were up three floors with a narrow steep staircase to go down in case of a fire.
The shower and toilet ‘box’ were way too small (my head banged the door whilst sitting on the loo, and I’m quite short!). Toilet seat was broken and temperature of shower couldn’t be controlled.
Good points: it was cheap, it had a bed with clean sheets and there were clean towels and it was very close to St Pancras for the Eurostar.
My wife cut her finger on a cracked tea cup, a bottle of milk had been put outside the window on a ledge,
Do yourself a favour and book elsewhere!
- Stephen (2/5): Wouldnt stay here if you want a peaceful evening - Couldn't sleep until 2am due to it being over the trains it was really loud and made the whole room shake
- Christopher (2/5): No heating, no blankets and no information - I checked in online, which was great. They sent all the information by text and email.
However the toilet wasn't easy to find and the radiators didn't work. There was no extra blanket and it was freezing during the night.
Worst night, I've ever had. I'm now ill
- Stephen (4/5): Miserable - Parking wasnt available. Rooms dirty and dated. Bathroom was tiny. Hairs in bed. Reception lad was canny though. Would have complained but had to leave early before traffic wardens were about.
- MAN SHAN (8/5): - K X Rooms near the London King’s Cross Station.
Fast check in and out .
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great No Frills Stay - Five of us stayed for one night perfect for a group, really close to Kings Cross Station for a reasonable price.
- ryan (4/5): Grubby but good location - The room was grubby, bathroom wasn’t very clean and only one pillow per person. Good location. Check in was automatic but did give later check in time than advertised. Wouldn’t stay again. Bed is not comfortable and strange set up where the extractor fan is in the toilet but not the bathroom / shower.
- Christopher (2/5): Dirty and cramped - Very dirty hotel room. There were insects dirt and hair on the floor. Bathroom was tiny. Bed was uncomfortable. It was also very noisy.
- daniel (8/5): - Basic property, price was a lot less than other cheap hotels but it’s very basic. Worth the stay if I’m you’re after no frills
- maddin352 (2/5): Disgusting! - Absolutely disgusting!! What a dive!! For £120 for one night! It’s terrible! Dirty towels. Dirty shower curtain! Left the heating on number 5 when it was hot outside, room was unbearable! Would not recommend. Would not stay again!! Terrible! Left no toilet roll also.
- jessicajodpur86 (6/5): Decent place for sleep after a night out in Camden. - This hotel is very close to Kings Cross and St Pancreas and is really easy to find. It’s about a 15 minute walk to Camden and in the other direction to the British Museum.
Contactless check-in was easy, no problem with any of the door lock systems. Saw a couple of cleaners but no front desk staff to speak of. The front desk is situated in the hotel next door.
On the first floor there are three rooms that share a separate toilet and shower. Toilet and shower were both clean and the shower was serviceable.
The hotel / hostel is a bit run down and definitely well used. Our room was pretty small and the bed wasn’t the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. Room temperature was fine, but we did visit in February. The room had a sink and some tea and coffee making facilities.
When we visited there didn’t seem to be any other guests on our floor and I only heard people once during the night.
This place is not the Ritz, but if you are looking for a place to sleep near Kings Cross or to get your head down after a gig in Camden this place does that job, for not too much money by London standards.
- Andrea (8/5): Nice enough - Does what it says on the tin! We picked it because of the proximity to the Eurostar for an early morning train. Couldn’t have stayed there more than one night because the room was small but did exactly what we needed it for, somewhere to sleep! Loved the ease of check in and not having to faff around with keys!
- Adam Joshua (10/5): - Much more then what I was expecting for this price! Normally you get a room the size of a closet in London for the price I paid, but not at this hotel! The room was not fancy but huge and it had a kitchen so I could get groceries. Also the location is perfect! Every metro line in the city comes right there! No transfers necessary.
- Kelly (6/5): - We didn’t pay a lot for the property and expected it to be basic which it was.
It was clean & tidy, staff were friendly also.
Strange layout in terms of the shower being in the kitchen so if anyone wanted to make a cuppa and you wanted a shower you’d be totally visible.
They have tried to make the best use of the space by giving you kitchen facilities but when there are 4/5 in the room I’d rather have had a bigger bathroom with just a fridge / kettle to use than a shower in a kitchen.
As a base the location is great.
Staff were really helpful and friendly.
Overall for what was paid it was ok and just as expected as a base.
- themegaughins2 (6/5): Very small and needs maintenance! - Very close to Kings Cross station, which is why we booked it.
Contactless checkin using an access code for the main door and room door.
Clean room, dust free.
That’s where the positives end.
Seriously small room, and even smaller bathroom.
The whole place is run down, with chipped paint everywhere and holes in the window frame / walls. There is graffiti murals everywhere which gives it a distressed urban feel, but you cannot attribute the poor maintenance to that really.
The bed was broken, but sleep-able. The mattress was very bouncy which meant that if one person moved in the night, the other would wake up to by being bounced up and down!
The room was very warm.
The staircase is super narrow and we were on the top floor (3rd). There are three rooms on each floor. I was wondering what would happen if you had to evacuate in the night, having everyone going down the very narrow stairs with no room to pass?
The bathroom is “tanked”, so water goes everywhere.
I know London is not comparable to other places, and you pay for convenience, but £100 a night felt steep for what was essentially a budget student’s attic room.
- Helen (6/5): Where are the toilets? - You don’t see anybody at check in - a code is just sent to you. Which would be fine if toilets were signposted well and/or easy to find. I stayed there for 2 nights (luckily I was working early and late) because I am still unsure where the toilets are here.
The room was basic but the bed was comfortable and I stayed during high temperatures so it was nice that the window was large and easy to open for night times (which other hotels in the area don’t have). The shower was fine - just a cubicle room on each floor. The location is perfect.
- anna (10/5): - Great location, very clean comfortable room. Exceeded my expectations!
- Verified traveler (2/5): No bathrooms AVOID - WARNING this hotel has no bathrooms yet you are not told this until after you book. Then they refuse to refund tell you no payment taken. Then fradulently take payment without authorisation
- Yvonne (8/5): - Perfekte Lage. Witzige Raumgestaltung. Super gemütliches Bett. Haus ist bisschen in die Jahre gekommen, aber ok. Ich habe mich sehr wohl gefühlt. Coop, Pubs, Kings Cross usw nur paar Meter entfernt.
- Verified traveler (6/5): An Okay Short Stay - I chose KX Rooms because it seemed to have a fun aesthetic. The graffiti style was a neat idea and it seemed very stand out for its location. Though, admittedly, it did need a refresh as it seemed to be getting obviously worn down. Though it does seem like some maintenance is happening.
Check in is done a couple of doors down, and the guys running the place were friendly and helpful. The room given was on the third floor. There is no lift, so I don't recommend it if you have bulky luggage.
While the room was comfortable and clean, it was really small, especially for two people. The double bed provided was a squeeze for two, though on the plus side, it was comfy; though, it really needed more pillows.
Our ensuite bathroom was incredibly tiny. It reminded me a lot of a caravan toilet and shower. It was a cramped experience, only placated by the fact that it was clean and we consistently had hot water. Though, randomly, the water turned off once while I was in the middle of a shower, luckily only lasting a minute before reinstating itself. Not great really.
Other niggles includes the radiator not working properly, one plug socket not working at all, and the window ledge wasn't properly attached. The fire door slamming could be felt through the wall, which disturbed sleep.
While it had its issues, it was alright all in all to suit a short stay. Clean, comfortable and well located next to Kings Cross/St Pancreas for travel connections. It just needs fixing up to improve it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Bit weird but OK value for money - Perfectly located in central London but the room itself is a bit weird. It's located in a low-cealing basement that has a damp smell to it in spite of leaky windows. However, sheets/bed as well as toilet facilities were clean and staff is friendly and helpful. The main door house key didn't work every time because it was a copy (they told us) but there was always someone to let us in, also during the night.
- Daniel (8/5): - .
- nbaines95 (4/5): Pros and Cons of this "Hotel" - I'll start with the positives - Great Location, not even 2 minutes away from Kings Cross and an Underground station at the top of the road. Comfy bed with decent bedding and a warm room which you can control and the staff were super friendly and offered to store our bags on checking out.
Negatives - I paid for a superior double with en-suite, on arrival we were lead to the basement to a room where you had to move in single file, it was dirty with dust webs in the corner and damp beside the bed. The bathroom is down a narrow, low height corridor, where my partner had to duck. The door to the toilet was broken so constantly ajar, the bathroom window was falling apart and open, meaning the bathroom was freezing as it had no heating. Again there was mould on the ceiling and shower curtain along with rust around the bathtub, sink and shower.
Perhaps we just had a bad room, as other reviews are positive and the photos look great but even as a "budget hotel" felt conned out of our money, as the room was more like a fancy hostel.
- Natalie (4/5): Cons and Pros - Pros; Great Location, literally a couple of minutes walk to Kings Cross, Welcoming and Friendly staff - offered to store our bags, warm room with good heating and a comfy bed.
Cons; We booked a "superior double en-suite" for our stay as the room advertised looked lovely, however it was the complete opposite - the room was in the basement, very cramped and barely any room to move around unless one at a time, it was also full of dust and dirt on the floor. The bathroom was down a small corridoor and my partner (6ft) had to duck to avoid hitting his head, it was freezing due to the window being broken and no heating, there was mould on the ceiling and shower curtain, and again just looked dirty and dated.
Not sure what has happened in the last few months as we booked off reviews - perhaps we just got a shoddy room.
- fjodor1998 (10/5): Good price value, amazing hosts - We arrived an hour early but were allowed to enter our room already. People at the front desk were super friendly and eager to help out. Having our COVID day 2 test delivered at the front desk was no problem, there was someone on site at all times.
Room was rather small but why would you even care if you're in town to visit the city. Great price value in my opinion, especially for young people looking for an affordable yet trendy place to stay.
Very well located too. 20 min walk to Camden Town, 25min to Covent garden, King's Cross St Pancras is right around the corner. The latter offers a variety tube connections and railway services.
Most importantly; the nearest Nando's is an under 10min walk
- AC (8/5): Fine - Great service
- 15jass (10/5): Fantastic experience - I am an NHS key worker, who needed emergency accommodation on short notice. For an establishment that charges between 40-55 pounds, the facilities/rooms were brilliant. Clean, everything working, in a great location.
And the best bit was that they were offering free rooms for NHS workers during the Covid19 crisis...a fantastic bit of goodwill and community service by these guys.
Yannis on the front desk was friendly and so helpful.
Couldn't ask for anymore from KX Rooms.
- Serine (10/5): Masse for pengene. Sentralt. Billig. - + lett inn- og utsjekking. Fint rom. God seng. Har føner, vannkoker, te og kaffi. Veldig sentralt. Rent toalett og dusj. Billig, masse for pengene. Følte meg trygg i området.
- Ruth (10/5): Small but Comfortable - It was a small but clean and warm room. Booked as a double room but I think it would have been a squash to get 2 normal sized people into the double bed. There was no wardrobe and very little hanging space. The very good things were secure WiFi, in room safe and a fridge. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The stairs are narrow and steep as is normal in older town houses. I managed OK.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect for a short stay - Hotel was quite hard to find but was perfect for our night away. The man on the front desk was lovely and attentive. Very convenient location!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - cost effectiveness is good and also kind:) liked the place but the only one to wish is microwave oven was not there😅 but the good hings were much more. The best thing was location. the location is super close to euston station and underground.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything was fine, the place is small with basic needs ticked off, the place was clean but there was a tobacco smell in the room and the
- Miss Eleanor (8/5): Nice place - I had a really pleasant stay here. Its super close to kings cross train station which is cery handy for the tube etc. The toilets and shower were really clean and the room was small but it was warm and cozy.
- Daniel (10/5): Happy - Will book this hotel again.
- jrbranum (8/5): Would stay again but read for some notes/suggestions for travelers! - The hotel staff are amazing at this hotel - very kind, efficient, and helpful. We had a very late check-in and got confused and when I called the reception they helped us find exactly where the hotel was located.
A suggestion for the hotel would be to have a WhatsApp phone application so that international travelers can call using WhatsApp rather than use international calling.
I do think the price of the room was higher than it should be -- it's a very, very small space with shared toilets and a shared small shower. It kind of reminded me of an hostel rather than a hotel. The price is much too high when there are private hostels $35-$50 less per night nearby.
Another thing to note is it is not wheelchair/pram/knee or back problem friendly! There are a ton of stairs and the stairways are very narrow. There are no elevators so if you have lots of luggage be aware of that.
Overall, if the price per room went down I would stay here again. The staff were so kind and the location is great. We traveled very light and are both fit so the small shower (seriously, so small!), the stairs, and the small bedroom were fine for us.
- Akhil (6/5): Misleading - Very average facilities for the price paid. Not stated clearly on size of the room, shared bathrooms etc.
