wjwheel (10/5): Elevated comfort in the heart of Midtown - Stayed at the Sofitel New York this past weekend and it struck a really nice balance between classic and modern. The recent renovation is done well. The rooms feel elevated and thoughtfully designed rather than just updated. Everything from the layout to the finishes felt intentional, and it had a quieter, more understated sense of luxury that you do not always find in Midtown. Service was excellent throughout. The location is ideal if you want to be central without feeling like you are in the middle of chaos. I have stayed at a number of other places in the area, and this one stands out for how cohesive and well-run it feels. Definitely one I would come back to.

The rooms are comfortable but mattress was worn and bath marked. No interest in my requirements once I’d checked out, I requested a taxi later on my check out day and it was refused and I had to see the guys on the front door who got me a taxi which unfortunately ripped me off. Be very careful of the taxis waiting outside….
Happiness47086247895 (6/5): Not a 4.5 star hotel! Could be so much better. Missing the finer details. Breakfast not worth it! - The improvements of a "Luxury" room over the cheaper "Superior" room are hardly noticeable. More plush slippers and a better stocked mini bar, and that's about it. In fact, the superior room gets a couch, it's more spacious and have better view than the luxury room (which has two stools, a smaller internal space and looking over the HVAC of the opposite building). Requested for a quiet room, yes, the room assigned was away from the hotel elevators, but it shares a wall with the elevator shaft of the building behind, so the vibration and noise from the building behind travels through the wall during the day (it was like sleeping in the subway). Adding to the noise was the HVAC from the building opposite the hotel. Had to change rooms because we wanted to sleep in and rest in the hotel during the day. We really liked the hotel and room decor and the vibes. But for the price and in consideration of its "4.5 stars" status, I think Sofitel could afford to offer complimentary tea/coffee for the rooms? Made guests felt like the hotel will try to charge you on anything that's extra. Asked for a water kettle and waited for 45mins, no response no nothing, called again and was told they've lended all of them out to other guests. Would've been nice to inform me of that and not leave me waiting in the room expecting something to come! I could've saved the time and get what I want elsewhere. At the end they offered free tea that one time to make up for the delay and unavailability. The sense of stinginess goes to the breakfast as well. We thought it's going to be like any major top grade hotel where breakfast is served buffet style or we can order whatever we want from a list of options. At Sofitel NY, you can choose one breakfast set, one juice and one hot beverage, that's it. No extra egg, pancake, sausage, fruit, cereal nor an extra cup of coffee. Anything extra is chargeable. We stayed 3 nights, so by the 3rd morning we wanted to have a mix and match of different things, unfortunately, that is not an option at Sofitel. To add to this inflexibility, they ran out of smoked salmon! I mean, come on!! Don't know what's worse, no smoked salmon or the discovery of egg shells in the benedicts! We would also expect the crosisant to be warm. No, they were stone cold like the ones you just got from Costco. The breakfast I could only give a 2/5. The location was great, service was satisfactory (would not say the most attentive), it needs more info on the website about the rooms, and the breakfast (not worth trying at all).
nycstylelittlecannol (6/5): 3rd Time Wasn't a Charm - I stayed at the Sofitel NY for Thanksgiving, and was excited to see the new renovations completed. This was my 3rd stay, and prior, it was always fantastic. My room was always upgraded, ready early and received a welcome gift in the room. Unfortunately, this stay did not live up to prior stays. When I arrived, they gave me my key to the room, it did not work in the elevator. I had to go back to the front desk for another key. I get up to the room, open the door, and see other people's clothes on the sofa. The room was still occupied! I had to go back down to front desk, to get another key. This was not acceptable at all. I was able to get in the room early when I arrived at 10:30am, but it did not make up for the issues. I had a deluxe room, 350 sq feet which seemed small with a king size bed. The renovation is only cosmetic, it's nice, bathroom is the same which I always enjoyed. They give you a water bottle to fill at filling stations, but the water was not cold. The highlight of the stay was the restaurant, Social 45, which I enjoyed dinner. I did not feel the service was as good as before, and the issue with the room was a big negative. The location is the best part, but you can also stay at the Iroquois next door, their suite is larger and for a better price. I don't think I will be back, which is sad, but with so many other options in NYC, where I stay should be a perfect one.

NewYorkLu (10/5): Another great stay - We always stay at the Sofitel when we go to NYC. It’s centrally located and we loved the renovated look this time. The lobby feels more inviting and the decor throughout has been refreshed. The beautiful flower arrangement by the elevators is an elegant touch. The rooms are perfect for sleeping: quiet (we never hear neighboring rooms), dark (good blackout curtains), and cool (great AC). There’s excellent lighting in the bathroom, as well as a makeup mirror. We also noticed there was a clothes steamer in our closet, which is very handy. My only complaint is that you can hear other doors slamming loudly in the hallway. I don’t recall that being the case before the renovation, so I’m not sure if something changed. If a slow-closing mechanism could be installed, that would be much appreciated. Otherwise great stay!

Read (7/5): Perfect location with average service. - Location, right between 5 and 6 avenues, close to the Theatre district with many dining options around. Perfect views from the room, the hotel is just after renovation. The staff is somewhat uninterested in what is going on. Everyone is polite but are not seem to be interested in helping the guest unless asked for. Room cleaning is ok, however nothing except the towels was replaced during the stay - no paper cups (!) for coffee, no Nespresso capsules, no drinks in the minibar, no bathrobes left on the floor to be changed. Every morning had to call the housekeeping and wait for 15-20 minutes for all those basic things.

mn415435 (8/5): Not what I was expecting - This hotel had pros and cons for me. Pros: The bed was supremely comfortable. One of the best beds I’ve ever slept in at a hotel. The rooms were quiet. The bathrooms were huge for NYC. The room was very clean. All the staff I interacted with were pleasant. Cons: I thought the hotel would be more chic. I didn’t really like the aesthetic. There were people hanging out in the lobby that detracted from the hotel ambiance. Wasn’t impressed with the restaurant and the free coffee was very weak - undrinkable for me. The view from the room was not that great. Overall…for a French hotel it wasn’t very French at all. But some good things about it.
glennsK1836BC (10/5): Beautiful, comfortable and friendly - My wife and I stayed here this past weekend during a high school reunion trip. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. From the moment we walked in, everyone was so helpful. We asked questions of the bellman, the concierge and the front desk and got great answers with a smile. Our room was terrific. I heard the hotel was recently refreshed - indeed it was like new including the lobby where we hung out for a bit as well as our room. We also loved the location being so close to Times Square, subways, restaurants, Bryant Park. We will definitely stay at Sofitel New York again!

Bijou you really are a jewel, it was a pleasure to meet you. The renovation, with lighter colour schemes, make the rooms seem larger and brighter. For Midtown room rates are quite good value. Location is great and this part of 44th St really provides an oasis of calm. The new long (and sociable) table in the bar/restaurant gives a nod to the bouillons parisiens, and while you won't dine out for the equivalent of 20 euro, the food is excellent and not overtly over-priced. Already looking forward to my stay in August.

Neetu (1/5): The Female Manager at the front desk is doing improper acts and. need to be exposed and sacked - Nothing as a woman manager - who runs the hotel and is in charge of the hotel needs to be sacked as she is doing fraud. She is constantly refusing guests even when booked via booking.com - stay away as she just cancels the bookings, and then tells you to book again direct via the Sofitel NY website. She ushers her staff to a room who firstly won’t be aligned to do this but then return to front desk and continue to push her illegal stance. The Female Manager in charge of the front desk - of the Sofitel NY is running a black market enterprise by canceling bookings - even though they are booked via bookings.com - canceling them and then telling you to rebook via the NY website. What happens when she cancels and the website says it’s fully booked and you’ve flown round the world for this. Don’t book at the Sofitel NY. We experienced this and found out she has done this to others. She needs to be investigated and we had to go to another hotel - even though we booked with bookings.com a week before.

But it was very good choice. All staffs especially at breakfast place, Arian Ronald, Benny and claire, they offered great service with smiles all the time. Even house keeping staffs were so nice. This could be one of the reason I want to definitely come back to Sofitel. I am Diamond at accor and I was welcomed as Diamond guest. Hope to see you all again.

Characteristic of each of the three hotels run by Mr. Schmidt at which we have stayed is a staff that clearly enjoys working there — happy, accommodating, friendly, welcoming and helpful! The NYC Sofitel is conveniently located in midtown, a few blocks from Times Square, Broadway and off-Broadway theaters, 5th Avenue shopping and fine dining options galore! Treat yourself with a stay next time you visit the Big Apple. You won’t be disappointed!

Brenda (5/5): Decent stay but on to the next for us. - Good location, clean and safe. Lack of touch points with staff, no one provided us with insight on our "Urban Experience Fee" of $45 per night plus tax. This fee includes a $25 daily food and beverage credit, premium WiFi, a reusable water bottle, 24-hour fitness studio access, a 15% Bloomingdale's discount, and local/domestic calls. We had to go online to figure it out. Also we never received our water bottle. They don’t offer complimentary water in the room everything is for a fee. Ordering room service comes with the automatic 20%. There are a lot of fees and little is offered for the price point of this hotel. I’ve found that with higher price point hotels we are often provided more for our money. Also I am not sure they change the bedding often and we know this is a pet friendly hotel because our pillows smelled like dog.

The location is perfect — right in Midtown Manhattan, yet surprisingly quiet. The hotel is elegant, very clean, and the rooms are comfortable and well maintained. A special shout-out to Kenia and Natalie at check-in — absolutely amazing! They were incredibly friendly, professional, and welcoming. Their service made a great first impression and truly set the tone for our stay. Highly recommended. We would definitely stay here again!

I checked in today, January 2nd, for a stay until January 6th, and I am already considering changing hotels due to how bad this experience has been. None of my prior requests were honored. I was placed on the 14th floor with a view of a wall, in a dark and depressing room. At check-in, no information was provided about hotel amenities or how breakfast works. I booked a rate that included breakfast, yet I was only told at the restaurant that I needed to notify staff in advance — this was never explained. A destination fee was also charged, but no one explained its purpose or what benefits it included. Overall, there was a clear lack of communication and transparency. I do not recommend this hotel. Much better options nearby, such as the Barclay Intercontinental or the Westhouse.
