Guest Reviews
- Osemo Omba (10/5): fanastatic. We will come back! - I informed that manager that we we booked the venue for 26th wedding anniversary. What a job, they did! They went full out to make the room AMAZING. They also give us complementary bottle of wine, chocolates. We also booked a table for a 5 course dinner. Again AMAZING. So much more to make us feel special!
- DickM245 (4/5): Underwhelming - Hotel needs revamping, feels tired and old, in room facilities not great The TV is
Positioned in a very odd place, so cant be seen from the lounge or bedroom
- Natasha (9/5): Stunning Boutique Hotel in Dunkeld - Very large room, comfortable beds, lovely breakfast. Nothing
- DubaiTraveller1982 (4/5): Dated and overpriced - a huge disappointment - Ten Bompas advertises itself as a boutique-style hotel with a small number of suites. The reality is that the whole property is extremely dated and in need of maintenance/renovation, and the rooms are tired and aesthetically unpleasant. Furniture that looks like it comes from the 1970s, a bathroom with chipped paintwork and a cheap non-adjustable hand shower, and one of the windows next to the entrance door had no curtain, meaning it is impossible to make the room completely dark at night.
The only positive comment I can make was that the cooked breakfast was of a good standard.
To be charged more than US$250 a night for this quality of accommodation is simply a joke.

- vatravelergirl (10/5): Gem in Johannesburg! - Can not say enough great things about Ten Bompas. I had given up on "Boutique Hotels." IMO, that had become code for Over Promise, Over Charge, Under Deliver, Under Whelm. NOT Ten Bompas. As the OG South African Boutique Hotel, it is the real deal. The entire staff is outstanding. Top to bottom. We arrived after travel in Namibia with a TON of laundry, which we would never have done had we known it was included. Bless the housekeeper - she got it done! She earned every Rand of her tip, thank you again! Every single person on the property exemplifies the true meaning of Hospitality. I will only shoutout GM Sean by name, as I don't want to start a list and leave someone out. Also, we loved the food. The Chicken was the best chicken I've had in South Africa! Top it all off, it is a Marriott Property. If you get a chance - stay!!! And, yes, the fireplace is wood burning - such a rare treat these days!
- Stephen van coller (7/5): convenient place with big rooms - breakfast good - dinner service on the Thursday and week end was poor although food was good take less than 90 minutes to serve food
- Lynn (7/5): - Generally good but room very small with flickering light which challenged sleep V small room for the price
- Lynn (8/5): Comfortable spacious space - Lovely spacious room and facilities

- rgoed2025 (8/5): A great stay at Ten Bompas again!! - Ten Bompas has been delivering constant quality service since we have been guests, over 20 years now!! The staff is so genuinely caring and they look after you in the warmest way. The fire in the room was the highlight of our stay!!
- Raffaella (9/5): Ten Bompas always offers excellent service and staff is genuinely caring - Staff and location Although facilities could be revamped, friendliness and kindness of staff make up entirely for a perfect stay
- Neikco (10/5): Such a hospitable stay and beautiful property! - I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Ten Bompas. Sean and the team were beyond welcoming, the meals at the restaurant on site were delightful (and they brought out the space heater for me), and the room was spacious, comfortable, and actually felt like home (a rarity). I was there overnight in transit and needed to work the entire day (including virtual meetings) before my flight home the following night. The hotel extended me the courtesy of allowing me to remain in my room for the full day to work comfortably. Sean then provided me a tour of the hotel and the property including its conference spaces and the grounds, showed me another property owned by their group, and connected me with the owners for future travel. As a hotel geek and someone always searching for the rare gem of a true home-away-from-home feel, that was a really nice touch. I can’t wait to try that unique property as well. Thanks again to Sean and everyone at Ten Bompas.

- Peterisme (10/5): Peaceful, luxurious gem amidst the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg - A true sanctuary and oasis, centrally located with easy access to activities, events, memorials, museums, and the airport in the heart of Johannesburg.
The facility is full of interesting architecture and features and our room was absolutely wonderful. What a treat to find a fully functional and high-quality steam room in our bathroom area!
The facility has an inside, quiet and peaceful garden/pool area to relax and unwind after a day of touring or to get going in the morning with a peaceful start.
The staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful at every step they clearly understand the meaning of service!
The food and selection on the menu was wonderful with gems here and there from the hotels own private garden.
We will absolutely be back and not thank Sean and his staff enough for the amazing visit!

- 1029stellaf (10/5): Boutique Hotel in Johannesburg - Such a nice, small boutique hotel. Great for our family. Rooms are all suites; beds are SO comfy, and the bathrooms spotless and well-equipped. Security was evident and we felt safe at all times. Not a walkable location, but we took Uber and had no problems. Breakfast was delicious. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our introduction to Joburg and South Africa at Ten Bompas was great!

- 371deenab (10/5): Unexpected Surprise - After missing our international flight from Johannesburg back to the states, our departure was delayed by 2 days. As a frequent Marriott guest, I found Ten Bompas on my Phone App. My husband and I were both exhausted from our three week stay in South Africa, and wanted nothing more than to get home. We were very pleasantly surprised when we checked in to our Suite (Room Two) with a Wood Burning fireplace. Our two day stay quickly turned into a pleasant stay as we spent time in the room, relaxing, with an awesome fire. The staff were excellent, went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. I would absolutely stay here again, and I would request Room Two!

- Cindy (9/5): Spacious, clean, central and super obliging and efficient staff - Quite dated but fabulous large suites, with balcony, garden views, amazing staff and perfectly located for me,for both work and leisure
Nothing was too much trouble for the team, that they have and I will certainly be back
Thank you for making the start of a 2 week family trip to Thailand, easy and effortless 👍👍 Nothing ….
- Clinton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Excellent all round - Outstanding service from friendly staff
- Dudu (9/5): Superb -
- Le Roux (2/5): Avoid. - If you are traveling for business this is not the place. Rooms are massive, but old and dilapidated. I had a strong drain smell also in the bathroom. Late check-in and early departures for business is a disaster. No after hours room service, despite saying so on the website. No gym. No early coffee/breakfast. Avoid.

Excellent housekeeping staff Need more vegetarian choices in the menu
- Mofokeng (7/5): Good - Rooms were spacious
- P (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely stay at 10 Bompas - the rooms are large spacious suites with separate lounge area. Very clean and great attention to detail. Lovely big shower/steam room.
Restaurant and food were very nice.
Four us hung out here all day whilst waiting for a safari to start the next day and it was perfectly chilled so didn’t need to leave.

- Antonia (10/5): Lovely hotel with great location - Really appreciated the hotel allowing us to check in on Saturday morning after spending two nights on planes to get to Johannesburg from the US. Comfortable room, good wifi.
Location near Hyde Park mall was great for us to pick up supplies for a road trip to Kruger.
- Antonia (10/5): Great hotel - Great location. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable rooms. Appreciated early checkin after flying in to Johannesburg
- T1497OWjasond (10/5): Great experience. - I hesitate to write a review because selfishly I don’t want this place to be over booked when I am visiting Joburg. This place is amazing. The staff are always friendly and willing to help. The food is always good and I can say that of all the times I have stayed (many) I have never had a bad meal! Finally, the rooms make you feel like you are at home bs a hotel. They are all suites - rustic - but clean and have more than you will need. There are many good hotels in Sandton, but this beats them all.
- Errol (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (10/5): Beautiful property and very well located. Close to Sandton and Rosebank. Very quiet with a lovely warm atmosphere. My r - Beautiful property and very well located. Close to Sandton and Rosebank. Very quiet with a lovely warm atmosphere.
My room was amazing - really sizeable and every night a fire in the room was prepared for me. What a lovely touch.
The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendlier. Even did all my laundry and ironing for me.
Thank you for a wonderful stay! Nothing
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional -
- tnick48 (8/5): Tranquil surroundings but rooms could do with a facelift - I actually would have given a score of just under 4 if I could. This hotel has been around for quite a while and was conveniently located for me post a meal out. The hotel is part of the Marriott group now and am accustomed to the customary greeting and status recognition , etc, but none of this. First, the booking could not be found, and then it was with a comment that I was due the previous day, which I had amended. In Marriott properties, there is the option for a food voucher or 1000 points, but when I asked about this, there was a lack of any recognition of this, so I left it. Anyway the room is spacious with separate living and bedroom with balcony that is in the garden and is very peaceful. The first impression is that the rooms are dated and very dark, though to be fair, the garden can affect this. However, the overall decor was very reminiscent of 1990 hotels, as was the bathroom, but everything did work, especially the wifi. I can't remember the last time I saw a mini hifi system like there was in the room! Given its location, the peace and quiet were great, and the hotel does have backup power generation.
Not wanting to sound too harsh, but a revamp would be of great benefit, and considering that there are more up to date and cheaper hotels around (maybe per square metre, not so) the property would certainly benefit. I did enjoy my stay and provided all that I needed but was disappointed when comparing web pictures to reality. The location is very good with easy access to Sandton, etc, and highways. Hyde Park shopping centre is walking distance.
- Cholo (7/5): Good -
- Alan (9/5): Helpful kind staff - Very good food ..the only problem was that the coffee machine in room did not work and it was not possible to get an out of hours sandwich see above music playing all the time in public areas is ghastly.
- James (8/5): Great - It was a great place to unwind and relax. Request for early check was granted and the staff were excellent. Sadly, couldn't drink the wine, which was a nice touch. Will definitely return
- Kendal (9/5): Superb -
- Adele (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (9/5): Delicious Food and Great Service - Great quiet hotel with interesting cuisine
- Careen (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jonas (10/5): Small, centrally located hotel with great service and lot of charm - Super friendly staff, great attached restaurant (offering breakfast, lunch and dinner), spacious rooms (interior looks a bit outdated but in a very charming way), centrally located, nice green courtyard
- Damaria (10/5): Exceptional - The rooms were so spacious and beautiful. The manager in charge made sure our stay is perfect. The staff was friendly and the food very delicious
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - great location great staff
- Christopher (8/5): Overall a very good stay but some areas for improvement - The staff were very friendly and helpful. Emannuel was a real star and did an exceptional job. The room, sitting room and bathroom were very well equipped and large. They gave me a free bottle of wine and the home made chocolate in the room was exceptional. The bed provided a very comfortable sleep. The food, while good, was not up to past standards. The chairs at the pool were all dirty and covered in droppings from the trees. The bedrooms are a bit dated and showing signs of wear and tear.
- Kirsten (9/5): absolutely loved this property and it’s staff - highly recommend it - everything
- Melvyn (10/5): welcoming and warm and very nicely remembered that we had stayed there twice before - interesting architecture excellent layout with separate sitting area
- Kashif (7/5): Good -
- Qristo (10/5): Excellence, Peace and Tranquility - This is no modern hotel but the quality of the hotel is really high. Staff are very helpful, the meal is good and the environment is really peaceful, clean, safe and tranquil. Lovely hotel with just 10 guests in 10 suites, I would recommend and would also stay again.
- Nerisha (5/5): Passable -
- DrCDavisB (6/5): Nice garden, ok food - The food was ok. The place was pretty and very tidy. Nice garden and good facilities for meetings. The projector was located too close to the ceiling and was very hard to manage to improve the size and quality of the image. Location was close to Rosebank.
