- ALEXANDER (9/5): Nice hotel, but a couple of things let it down. - The staff were lovely, breakfast had plenty of choice, and the hotel itself looks great. The location is hard to beat — you’re literally a few steps away from the main pedestrian street with all the shops and restaurants, but because the hotel is slightly tucked away, you don’t hear any of that noise. It was super quiet at night, which we really appreciated. All the big sights are an easy walk too. The only real issue was our room. We were put right next to the lift, and every time it arrived there was a loud chime. The room door has gaps and basically no soundproofing, so we heard that beep constantly. It got old really fast, especially when you’re trying to relax or sleep. If you book here, just make sure you ask for a room far from the elevator. A couple of other things surprised us. At check-in they took a deposit that was close to 50% of what we paid for the whole stay. That’s a big chunk of money to have on hold, and it wasn’t made clear beforehand. Also, the hotel rules mention a fine if you lose your key card. I’ve never come across that in a five-star place before — felt a bit stingy

- Compass54571994720 (10/5): Impressive entrance and very comfortable rooms - As the name indicates, the hotel is centrally located. We had Club rooms and checked in on the club floor. The Club team were very helpful. The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable. I was able to pay for an extra late check out (6pm) which was very helpful. Breakfast was extensive and served downstairs in the impressive salon. Soy bean milk was available.

There was no meat at all. Though there was a chef cooking excellent noodle soup. This is the reason while a point was deducted.

- CCKiWeTO (10/5): Excellent location - Amazing location just steps from Nanjing Street and not far from Metro station that is on the line to PVG. Lots of other hotels/stores/restaurants nearby. Breakfast was good with typical spread. Probably the hotel with the most English speaking staff of all the hotels i stayed at for this trip. Rooms are spacious, and showers are great. Speedy housekeepers seems to know exactly when you left your room to clean it so kudos. Amenities are present, although some like hot tub showing it's wear/tear.

Putting all the required ingredients in is one thing, but sometimes it’s the execution that results in a good drink.

They try to accommodate as best they can, but not always to your satisfaction. Our only dislike is, in the evenings the room tends to be very warm. We had to open the windows to get cool air. Can't imagine if it was in summer. WE approached the front desk after the first night, and they told us the tech would check our room. It was the same again after the second night. We did not bother to ask again as we were leaving on the third day.

- John Zhao Nian (9/5): 一次接近完美的入住體驗，上海大酒店有高质量的服務水準 - 因是半夜的航班我們是凌晨兩點過才到酒店，承蒙禮賓部的Francis Zhang 的熱情接待同時也认出我們儿年前也來住宿過，真是故鄉遇熟人，－掃疲乏之態. 第二天換到套房時前台的Jasmine 和她的同事非常熱情又麻利地邦我們完成換房的工作，效率很高，態度又好. 我們夫妻住了6晚，女兒她們四人住了3晚倆個小外孫女因幾年前來住過，這次重溫舊夢，感情依舊，對上海大酒店是贊不絕口. 住宿期間多次進出大門又是去廸斯尼女兒她們需寄放行李，禮賓部張經理等人都是非常客氣，服務週到. 客房阿姨打掃認真負責使我們有回家感覺。 歺飲部亮點：咖哩牛肉面的師傅現拉現煑，牛肉面口感很好，湯汁鮮美，咖哩放得也恰到好處，值得表揚；因太太身體不放便下樓吃早餐，需本人帶些粥之類食品給她，有早餐廳的員工（經理）很溫馨地替我准備了塑料食盒及塑料袋方便㩗帶. 謝謝了. 早餐品種較少，選擇不太多，－些中式早點如菜包，肉包放的時間較長，吃的時候已經涼了或者接近凉了，西式早点品種少。個別員工尚有提升服務質量的空間.

- Eleanor (9/5): Lovely staff - Jasmine Sun and Annie Ding are two of the staff that have been so helpful throughout the trip. They have been so kind and made our stay even better. It's all about the staff! I paid for a double room for two adults and a small child. I was a bit put out when they asked me to pay for an extra breakfast, which is not cheap, for the child when we are already paying quite a lot to stay at the hotel for the week. Given the child is sharing a bed with me, it felt a bit...ungenerous.

- Baris (8/5): Great rooms and staff, but poor Wi-Fi and mediocre breakfast - As for the breakfast, it was very ordinary for a hotel of this caliber. I would describe it as a standard 3-star hotel breakfast, yet it was priced like a 5-star experience. Compared to similar hotels, their breakfast options are usually two or three times more diverse and much more delicious. The hotel's Wi-Fi was quite slow, and most Western apps either wouldn't load or were extremely unresponsive.

- Indranil2u (10/5): Great Luxury in Shanghai - One of the best luxury hotels I have stayed. Great value for the luxury provided. Great amenities and very clean and well kept room. The bedding quality was excellent and so the quality of sleep. Everything in the room had a quality of luxury around it. It mixed traditional feel in the room and modern technology very well. Our requests were delivered using a robot! The location was excellent for first time visitors, with great connectivity to airports and train stations, all good places to eat nearby. Note that they require a deposit to be paid when you arrive even for pre-booked reservations. Highly recommended.

The air con was just too hot in the room to sleep. We ended up turning it right off and opening the window the tiniest bit for a bit of fresh air. It was really cold outside (2 degrees) but the room didn’t need to be so warm.

They were so kind to take around 70 parcels that i ordered from taobao and sent it all in our room once we arrived. I actually loved everything. Probably just add more toiletries in the bathroom? But otherwise, everything is perfect.

- Darth-Katsu (8/5): Location! - The best thing about this hotel is the location, right next to all the great shopping and restaurant s of Nanjing road and a few minute walk tonthe main bund area. You cant beat the location. We had very limited interaction with staff, the service staff like room cleaners were nice, fromt desk and the staff in the tax free office downstairs were kind of aburbt, and not warm and friendly as you wpuld expect from a hospitality standpoint. The room itself was very spacious with a large standing only shower. Since its winter time the room climate control is set to warm, and you are not able to change the settings. They can bring you a fan as the room doea get a bit stuffy even while its cold out. I opted to just open the window and hope no insect visiors came in. Overall we enjoyed our stay but this will be a one and done for us, there are so many options around town.

- wang2inc (2/5): Ridiculous 5 star rating for a scam hotel - I booked this hotel due to great reviews online and it’s supposedly 5 star ratings. Stayed from 26-28 Jan 2026, my experience was terrible. Let me elaborate: 1) Which hotel gives out amenities like toothpaste, toothbrush and hair combs at the checkin counter? Shouldn’t these be in the room - only motels do this. 2) During my stay, I switched on the “Do Not Disturb” light because I didn’t want visitors for that day. But my room was made up anyway - totally unacceptable! 3) The bath tub sinkhole is gold but this is disgustingly rusted - I could only use the shower instead. This is not 5-Star! 4) Chips and peanuts on the table put near the free coffee and tea sachets, no notice that it is chargeable. Was charged for it unknowingly! 5) Was told that one of my towels was “dirty” and I needed to pay for it. I asked for photo evidence argues that I never dirtied any towel, and even if it is - that’s not intentional. No evidence given, just told it will be debited from my deposit. The worst scam hotel I’ve ever stayed in. One would worry if there are any valuables in the hotel room too. Please be careful.

Perfect central location, Amazing rooms , amenities , comfy beds and the spa facilities were lovely. Atmosphere of hotel is great you could sit in the main lobby all day. Staff very helpful as well. - ERIC KAN (8/5): - Responsive and helpful staff. Clean room. Bathroom floor trap is slow in discharging water hence causes water ponding after a bath. Shower gel and shampoo comes in a tiny bottle hence have to request for more daily as my wife and I share a room.

Front office staff could be better train at handling clients. The best service rendered comes from the young concierge by the name of Mason, who is always acknowledging and nice .

We chose it for its very central location and excellent value for money, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. We stayed here for 3 nights in October 2025. We travelled directly from Pudong Airport to East Nanjing Road Station on Metro Line 2, then walked a short distance to the hotel, which made arrival incredibly easy and stress-free. Our room, a Deluxe Business Double Room, was impressively spacious and spotlessly clean, with daily housekeeping to a very high standard. The furniture and décor had a classic style, which we really appreciated, and overall the room felt comfortable, elegant, and welcoming. The staff spoke good English, and on our departure day they kindly helped us arrange a transfer to Shanghai Hongqiao Station, which was seamless and efficient. We did not take breakfast or any other meals at the hotel, simply because we wanted to explore the local food scene, and there were endless options just steps away from the hotel. If we ever return to Shanghai, this will be the only hotel we would consider staying in again. We walked almost everywhere to see the main central highlights and used the metro or Didi for places further afield – the location could not have been better.

Я люблю старые роскошные отели и этот один из них. Очень близко от метро, напротив есть круглосуточный маркет, до набережной от силы 15 минут пешком Будьте готовы к тому, что у вас по факту заселения попросят депозит. Я бронировала 2 суток, за первые сутки деньги списали с карты, когда заселялись - попросили разом оплатить проживание и депозит, платила наличными. Мол, за первые сутки списанные средства вернутся на карту позже. Эта процедура может обрабатываться до месяца, не очень удобно, что я теперь не могу потратить эти деньги в поездке

The location is excellent—just a 2-minute walk to Nanjing Road and very convenient for visiting the Bund. The suite was very spacious and comfortable. We stayed as a group of four and found it to be great value for money. The suite included one large bedroom, a separate living room, and a small working room that could be converted into an additional bedroom with an extra bed, which worked perfectly for us. The highlight of our stay was the exceptional service, especially from Francis Zhang, the concierge. He was extremely helpful, enthusiastic, and genuinely service-minded. He went above and beyond to assist with arrangements, recommend and book restaurants, and proactively arrange our airport transfer without being asked. His attentiveness and positive attitude made our stay smooth, stress-free, and truly enjoyable. “He significantly contributed to our 5-star experience”

- wang (10/5): Good to stay - I was stayed in Grand Central hotel Shanghai last December 3rd through December 17th with my husband. During our staying we feels hotel service is very nice and perfectional make us feels comfortable especially Andy the hotel front manager gave the kindness and worms service makes us feel very appreciated. I hope next time when I come to visit Shanghai again will stay in Grand Central hotel again. And I also will introduce all my friends about the Grand Central hotel Shanghai when they plan to come visit Shanghai.
