Staff were amazing and could not be more helpful and the whole place is an experience in itself - even a well stocked honesty bar - a rare treat these days. Don’t expect straight walls and fitted cupboards but a well dressed Georgian (I think) Hotel with amazing service. This is our new favourite London hotel.

Rooms are very small and the tube runs underneath the hotel which means the beds shudder every few minutes during the night which gave me terrible motion sickness. The location is great though so depends on what matters to you most!
3unique (10/5): My idea of the perfect hotel - I think this is close to my idea of a perfect hotel. Though I had lived in London (more than three decades ago) I did know this part of London or the delights of Clerkenwell. But I am so glad we had reason to stay at The Rookery. This place is truly special. From the moment you arrive having to be buzzed in (it makes it feel like it is your private residence) to the welcome from team, to the wonderful surprise when you are told about the honesty bar in two of the three lounges and only topped by the door opening on to your requisite bedroom. The room was just lovely, no shower just a lovely roll top bath, no rushing here you have to relax. We had a great (superb coffee and orange juice) in our room and we availed ourselves of the honesty bar. Such a lovely idea, so generous and warm of spirit. Yes! we did write our drinks down. Others didn’t 😡. We enjoyed this hotel so much that wherever we want to be we will stay here. The other bonuses: - you are three minutes from Farringdon Station which means you are less than 45 minutes from Gatwick Airport - Clerkenwell is just fantastic - two minutes from the soon to closed but amazing and historic Smithfield market - minutes from St Paul’s, The Thames, The Globe…. - you could actually walk to the Ritz end of Piccadilly in less than an hour. DO stay it is a lovely lovely hotel. Thank you.

xtintore (2/5): Nice looking but lousy infrastructure - Nice looking but awful infrastructure, old and small beds despite asking for king size bed only got a 1,4m wide bed! The hotel does not have elevator, as it is the addition of three old townhouses, well decorated indeed, but still 3 old houses. Good location near train station.

41wendyp (8/5): Hidden Gem of hotel - Beautiful hotel a little gem found it very relaxing and loved that it was so different to were we normally stay when visiting London . Lovely room steeped in old history very comfortable bed slept well . The only little downside was the heating wasn’t working in room but they soon sorted with electrical heater . As weather had turned gets cold quick . But made up for it by sitting by fire reading lots of lovely books from there library. Most enjoyable stay thank you

Z4514PGjamesg (10/5): “You will have much pleasure in being in London.”—Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen herself would have felt at home at The Rookery—even though the imposing tower, which is presently obscured by scaffolding, is not even three decades old. But it has been constructed with such sensitivity from salvaged brick that it looks every bit as Georgian as the converted 18th-century shops that comprise the rest of this boutique hotel. The rooms themselves are furnished with antiques and decorated with exceptional taste—even the bathroom, with its burnished copper plumbing, high-tank toilet, and roll top tub. I was besotted with one room in particular: the Mary Lane, the exposed mortise-and-tenon beams, a remnant of the original building. What I didn’t appreciate were the 50 steps treaded every night to get there. The room also faces the street and there is the soft murmuration of night sounds—not, given the very comfortable duvet and feather pillows, that one will be awake long enough to be disturbed. In retrospect, though, a room on a lower floor, such as the Elizabeth Cormac, is just as beautiful and demands half the effort to enjoy. The Rookery also is only a three-minute walk from the Farringdon Underground Station. On the Circle Line, it will whisk you along the bank of the Thames to London’s most important sights. Or one can walk. St. Paul’s Cathedral is only 15 minutes away by foot; the British Museum, twice that—distances that, if there are traffic diversions, can easily take as long by cab. Better yet, The Viaduct Tavern is just 10 minutes away through the brightly painted arcade of Smithfield Market. Stroll over, order a gin and tonic with chipped ice or a London Pride, and congratulate yourself for having stayed at The Rookery. (A note: book directly. Rates will not be lower elsewhere, and there is advantage of dealing directly with hotel staff, who are uncommonly helpful—especially Thush.)
995liannee (10/5): The Rookery will change your life - My partner and I visited for my birthday and were utterly spoiled by the lovely staff who upgraded us to the incredible Rook's Nest suite, which was possibly the nicest birthday surprise I've ever had. I've stayed in all three of the sister hotels and I think The Rookery might just be my favourite. We wanted to pass on our gratitude to the generous and welcoming staff who made our stay a pleasure. Love this gem of a hotel with its peaceful library, wonderfully decadent rooms (with just the right level of Georgian naughtiness. That bath..!) and lovely resident cat, making it all feel like home. Bliss.
LeaS355 (10/5): Comfort, Convenience, and a Cozy Sense of History - We arrived at The Rookery after dark and even though it is an easy three minute walk from Farringdon Station, we almost missed it as the facade was covered with scaffolding. But, what a joy to be welcomed into its front hall, so rich in a sense of history. We loved our 3rd floor room - Sophie Rood - although travelers with heavy bags, take note. Toosh from the front desk kindly helped with our suitcases, but there is no elevator. That aside, we would want the same room next time. Its lighted fireplace, lovely portrait, beamed ceiling, and beautiful desk-turned-armoire embraced us. The room was clean and the bed wonderfully comfortable. We loved the beauty and comfort of the different common rooms, all of them furnished with comfy wing back chairs, period lamps, and antiques. The library was stunning. There is an honor bar and it was lovely to come back after a day of touring, mix a drink, and relax in this beautiful setting. Bagheera, the black cat, would saunter through for a visit which added to the sense of home. At the front desk, Dave, Alexandra, Muslum, Augustine, Robert, and Toosh were ever helpful and friendly in answering questions and making suggestions.I believe it was Muslum who recommended the nearby Fox and Anchor pub which we LOVED. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

It looked a tad small from the outside, but once you entered, the place was a true gem. The staff were just sensational, always wanting to help, they even had a cat wandering around, just making it feel even more like home. The room was "old fashioned'. but that just added to the charm, the bed was magical, soft, clean and just superb. Everything was perfect and I can not wait to return next year with my wife to let her enjoy the experience. It was 10:10... My only slight comment that the shower was handheld, which was a little bit of a challenge, but OK for me

Susan (8/5): Charming Historic Hotel - The staff at the Rookery were wonderful! They were personable, professional and extremely helpful. My first room was on the top floor, and many flights up stairs. I was already exhausted and in pain from a tour I had been on, and just could not deal with more steps. The staff were amazing and were able to switch my room to the 1st floor. The hotel location in an up and coming area of London is interesting and convenient to many interesting sites south of the Thames, as well as Heathrow. I love the ambiance of the hotel and room comfort, but having only a clawfoot tub in the bathroom was a challenge.

I like to sleep with a window open and was able to, as the area is pedestrianised so lovely and quiet. The situation is great for St Pancras and visiting London. Staff were all delightful. Will definitely visit again and thoroughly recommend.

T7122GMpeterc (10/5): Good memories are made of this - Returning after many years away The Rookery lived up to all my best memories. The hospitality was as warm and friendly, the suite a delight of old world charm and comfort, the breakfasts, watched over by the vigilant resident cat, were delicious. Remarkably quiet and peaceful considering how close it is the hustle and bustle of Smithfield Market. Alright, I admit that mastering the twin taps of the antique shower took a bit of concentration, but it was well worth it for the relaxing flow of hot water after a hectic day. We will return.

Once I checked out, I was told it would take 48 hours for me to be credited back with the balance of the deposit minus the cost of my breakfast. Staff are very pleasant about this, but I wish I'd known at the time of booking.

The bed, while small, was comfortable, the bathroom very large, and the location couldn't be beat. The husband felt like there was too much noise outside (people, construction, etc.) but it is in the city, so not really something that can be avoided. We also enjoyed the lattes we ordered as breakfast each morning, which came with a few tasty biscuits. I would come back here but would see if they had a room w/ a king bed.
643ajk (10/5): Beautiful - The hotel is a beautiful with a Victorian theme throughout. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I recommend anyone stay here at least once. There are two lounge rooms with honesty bars and a beautiful library. I look forward to going back there again!

Casey (10/5): - We stayed in the Rook’s Nest suite which was amazing! The hotel had a wonderful selection of gins and a fabulous in room breakfast. The hotel cat was an added bonus.

Jennifer (10/5): - My partner and I were only able to stay one night here, but we both enjoyed our stay very much. The room was beautful and unique, as is the whole hotel. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I very much enjoyed the tea service. I would love to stay again if I get the chance.

The service was exceptional, the property was gorgeous, and the location was super convenient. We couldn't recommend it enough, especially for couples.

There is a great selection of gin, wine, as well as books and several areas to enjoy them in. We flew out of Gatwick and the train to the airport is about a block away from the hotel- we will be staying here every time we come in and out of London from now on!

Laura (10/5): - Really enjoyed my stay at The Rookery Hotel, the room was quaint with old fashioned tub for soaking, we loved making our own drinks downstairs in 2 separate areas and sitting outside in the garden to drink them. There was a man from Turkey (sorry forgot his name) that worked the front desk and he was very lovely. The area was a good location, good for transportation and walking. The only issue is they were doing interviews and closed a couple of the sitting rooms while we were there and we felt like we were in the way, when we wanted to sit there but other than that all was perfect!

Scott Thomas (10/5): - The Rookery had to be one of the best and most unique hotel experiences I've had. The antique furniture is beautifully chosen and arranged, but it is also very functional. It feels like getting to live for a short time in a Georgian fantasy.
Mark (10/5): Amazing Hotel - Stunning Interiors - Just a one night business stay. Stunning interiors and very comfortable. Wonderful friendly staff. Close to tube/train station and loads of bars/restaurants. Only caveat - there are no lifts, not a problem for myself but it could be for others.

susanna (10/5): - We have stayed at The Rookery several times now. We love the ambiance, the furnishings, the honesty bar, and the common areas. It is such an unusual but warm and inviting place. The staff are top notch and went out of their way to meet our needs and assist us in our plans. The tea tray delivered to our room was absolutely delightful and the breakfasts were wonderful. And who doesn't love a hotel with a cat!?!
Mary (10/5): Exceeds expectations - It was a long held wish to stay at The Rookery, and it totally exceeded my expectations. Really friendly staff gave me a very warm welcome. It's a very relaxed, informal vibe. The residents spaces are gorgeous - tasteful, ecclectic and comfortable. There's an honesty bar and a lovely outdoor area. Our room was beautiful, romantic and cocooning. The bathroom was spacious with a big claw footed bath. Breakfast is served to your room; I had fruit and granola and my husband had piccant mushrooms on toast. Fresh orange juice and good coffee. I couldn't falt The Rookery and would love to stay here again.

Quality furnishings and lovely atmosphere, but I thought overall just a tad under the quality of their sister hotel Batty Langleys. The kettle didn’t work in my room but was quickly replaced when I raised it with reception. The bed was very comfortable.
