- Y1169VAstuartb (6/5): Basic but fine - I stayed here for a work trip, so didn't have to pay for it myself thankfully. Probably wouldn't book it if I had a choice. Pros: - Good location. Quite close to the centre but far enough out that it's not as chaotic, and the uni area it's in is pretty nice. Some good restaurants etc around. Metro isn't too far away. - Staff were nice enough and helped where they could. - Room was fairly big. Cons: - Quite grimy. Not exactly unclean, but dated. A fair bit of damage to bed headboard etc, and the shower was a bit mouldy. Plug sockets not properly installed so you could see the wiring, which wasn't great. Nothing too bad, but could do with a refresh. - Staff when I was there spoke very little English. Fair enough, it's Italy, but you'd expect the person at the desk to be able to communicate in English reasonably well given the international clientele. - Opposite student bars which can be very loud on an evening, which can be an issue if you're in a room overlooking the road. - Walls are quite thin. All in all fine for a solo adult on a business trip - it's a decent bed and the air conditioning worked fine. Wouldn't recommend for a holiday unless you're using it purely to sleep in and aren't spending any time in the room. Certainly not somewhere to stay if you're looking for anything remotely romantic, or if you're travelling with kids.

Walk in one direction from hotel it’s messy, walk any other direction and it’s nice - plenty of dining options as well as a farmers market and laundry near by. Out of a score from 1-10, I give the Athena Hotel and staff a 20❤️❤️

Very nice people working here and they're so friendly. The room is have a good space and adequate for moving inside. . Furniture was good Nice view for street to see people walking around

We are between bologna and policlinico station. From here in 10 minutes you can arrive in colosseo by metro b. The hotel is near termini station and also near tiburtina Station. Very good experience!

- 940belindaj (6/5): you pay for what you get - the hotel is on the outskirt of the main city, about 15 mins walk to the underground and then a short ride to the the main part of rome, it was only a short ride and paid 1.5 euros there and on way back, works the same way as london, swipe card for each way of destination easy peesy. the hotel is very basic, double room and bathroom which contains a shower and hairdryer, there is a tv which shows only italian channels but tbf was not in the room long enough to watch it. there is also a mini fridge in the room for you to fill up as desired .the bedroom was very dated and looked like it could of done with a good clean there is an option to have breakfast for 5 euros per person, again very basic, croissants, jam, butter, cereal, yogurts, tea and coffee. i personally wouldn't go here again as it was quite loud outside in the local bars and the first night we had to move rooms because of the noise from the young locals but the hotel staff were very helpful and moved us the following day to a room at the back of the hotel , all the staff were very helpful and polite. i would however pay the extra for perhaps a 4 star next time.

The whole floor is very small and the rooms are right next to reception/coffee area. So at 7 am, you can hear the coffee machine being cleaned. - Beds are hard as rocks, really uncomfortable. Good: - Receptionist there all night, we checked in late. - A few restaurants nearby to eat something - Building has secure entrance with buzzer so feels safe - Didn't see any bugs

Es gibt ein paar Restaurants in der Nähe, und Nahe der U-Bahn-Haltestelle einen kleinen Supermarkt. Es sind drei Stationen bis zu Termini (Hbf).

The employee told us that he did not authorize us and began to move our belongings from one place to another without our authorization in a rude manner. Finally, we ate outside (balcony) with drizzle, cold, thunder and lightning. Very unpleasant experience in this hotel with employees who logically do not know what it means to work in this industry.

Porém o quarto estava reformado e tudo funcionando: janelas anti ruido Ar condicionado individual TV com todos os canais Internet com bom sinal Frigobar que manter de fato os produtos gelados. Boa localização. (proximo do metro 10 minutos e varios comercio por perto). Ponto de atenção: Banheiro nao possui um box o que gera molhaceira na hora do banho. Café da manha é bem fraco, é servido no quarto, não há espaço, então você fala o que deseja de cafe no momento do check in e eles providenciar dentro do possivel.

- Matthew (6/5): Needs some work - This is not a negative review as much as it is an honest review. The staff was friendly and nice although she had a hard time finding change for a 50euro. The rooms were clean but very dated. Beds were uncomfortable, showers leaked so badly we ran it at half pressure so we didn’t soak the walls. No sink in bathroom, the lighting was flickery and sometime took a couple tries to get turned on. Found a big ugly bug but quickly squashed it. It was the last we saw. Kind of hard find the entrance. For the price we paid it seems reasonable to make a few upgrades

Accueil sympathique, chambre spacieuse, calme et propre. Seul bémol: petit-déjeuner très léger servi en chambre. Nous avons simplement repris un excellent et copieux petit-déjeuner dans une pasticceria à proximité pour 3 euros par personne. Donc séjour parfait.

- world_beauty_seeker (8/5): Cute little hotel in Rome - The 24 hours reception is very kind en helpful. The rooms are clean and the balcony is very cute! The building looks a bit old but it totally fits in Rome. We stayed for 12 nights. There is an elevator available, but not for the first steps. It is a bit far (30 min walk) from the train station, but you can also take the bus or the electric scooters.

- Adventure722737 (4/5): Awful, do not recommend! - Stayed for 3 days with a friend, very basic tiny room. A/C didn’t work. Bed comfortable and most of the staff is friendly. The shower was awful was only boiling hot or freezing cold. We did see insects in the shower the place was clean but we were definitely aware after seeing the insects. Walls was very thin, can hear everything and we were behind reception so we could hear the phone ringing all night. Breakfast wasn’t a lot to it but alright considering it’s come free food with it. If your from the UK you will need an Italian 3 pin plug not and EU plug we asked for an adapter which we got and then a rude member of staff asking for a tip for this which made us uncomfortable as we didn’t know about this with Italian plugs and we had both been to Italy before and not needed the Italian 3 pin plugs. Wouldn’t come back pay more money for a better and cleaner hotel.

Close to a metro stop it's very quick into the centre and about 20 min walk from the main train station which has direct trains to Fiumicino airport. It's by no means a 5* hotel, everything is very basic, but if you're just looking for a clean, easy place to stay, then it's absolutely perfect!

- Jekatha (10/5): Clean Hotel and helpfful staff! - Very clean and there is room service everyday. It isn't walk able to the main attraction but it's only 5-10 mins on the metro which I found to be ideal as it's more peaceful where I stayed. The touristy places were a little loud and cramped at peak times so this was ideal and the metro is super cheap. It's great location for sight seeing and even for hopping to the next city as the main termini is only 2 metro stops away.

Helpful and kindness for all of the staff, complete breakfast, flexibility and suitable for tourist or people that visit Rome on the run, 10-15 min walking to Termini central station. Located in a crowdy area (universities), however, it's a pretty good deal, with quiteness and lots of places for get food nearly at any hour, even at night time.

Hotel is in a very safe area close enough to the metro and buses. You cannot go wrong with their breakfast. My only downside was the comfort of the bed, although the linen is clean. - JK (4/5): Not much to say.. poor experince - On arrival no lift working. Was aware of this issue from a previous review and noted that the lift was out of order ! No proper information about the room service and what is where. Went to the our room, and found you could not lock the bathroom. I was with my family imagine suddenly walking into the bathroom! Asked the staff about this who seemed to brush it aside and abruptly told me that I should have opted for more expensive hotel or a better hotel! At breakfast some items of food seemed to finished and when we asked , the reply you are too late they are finished.. eg boiled eggs. Overall poor service and wont be going again.

The shower cubicle is so small that a big person would find it hard to use, but I am normal sized so I had no problems. The room was extremely clean, the personnel friendly, and I found that I had everything I needed. There was no desk though, only a bed, a cupboard, a bedside table, and washing facilities, The Wifi worked well most of the time but tended to slow down at night. There's TV and air conditioning.

- noel (6/5): Small nice little hotel. - Small little hotel in A nice area. Very close to the metro stations about a 10 minute walk and bus stops all over. You get what you pay for so you can't expect much. Very clean hotel they made sure everything was clean and the staff was very nice and friendly. The only thing that I did not like is that there was no air conditioning in the room. You also have to pay a $4 euro tax fee at the end of your stay.

- welsh family (8/5): Perfection in a bag - Great place to stay 20 minutes walk to central Rome myself, wife and 4 year old had a lovely place to lay our heads for our 10 nights away, will be staying there next time. Breakfast was a good variation of continental and the staff were very accomoodating to ill Italian vocabularies from trying Welsh people, thanks for their assistance in teaching my son the pleasantries of the Italian language, all the best.

- Mas (6/5): bed and breakfast, within city range - The hotel is in a nice quiet area which appears local and is about 20 minutes away from the city centre by taxi-which can eventually become pricey as we were there for 6 nights. I suggest the metro which is far cheaper and takes you straight to many of the tourist sites, for example the Coliseum. The staff were helpful when it came to calling a taxi when needed, as well as guiding us towards the closest metro station (which is 'Bologna'). However, when we first entered our given hotel room it appeared very different from what we saw in the picture: For a "family room" there was hardly any mobility, the beds were very close together-one of the beds were a foldable bed and gave myself back pains the entirety we were there, we had to often swap who slept on it every night. It didn't help that the air conditioning-which was situated directly above the foldable bed- leaked every night. The dripping was loud, thus got irritating. The facilities which were provided with the hotel were an advantage though. The bathroom was very clean. The cleaning staff were excellent as they provided us with clean towels every day, cleaned the room and changed the bins. Moreover, the room has a working fridge and tv (which we eventually got to work but had nothing of interest on it as it was all in Italian). The breakfast was nice and had a good variety. Any problems we had the staff tried to respond quick, we even got offered new rooms (separate) due to the AC, but decided to stay where we were.

He began yelling at my friend and I and refused to listen to reason or compromise for quite some time before I managed to calm him down. It is not my job to deal with his anger issues, but I had to do so because I was afraid he might trash the room or steal from me later. I'm glad that I only ran into him the night before I checked out. The breakfast was decent, and the room was clean, but it was so hot and stuffy.

- Stella (6/5): Reasonable but noisy. - Stayed in single room. Staff were very friendly and nice. Breakfast each morning was excellent with variety, even eggs, salami, toaster, coffee maker, pastries. The best breakfast by far of all hotels I stayed at. The downside was the single room I had had very, very thin walls and I could hear very loud noises and laughter. Unsure if it was uni students or guests. Very noisy and I was not able to rest. Wish I had another quieter room. Ask for quiet room. Staff and hotel in all other ways good. Kind girls at reception.
- K Sz (6/5): Short trip to Rome - Location of hotel is great, close enough to the downtown. Rooms' quality might vary, but for this price I can't complain. Some of the staff are really very nice, some of them are not as nice. The breakfast is disappointing, I wouldn't call it breakfast. Wi-fi was available in our room in very good quality.
- Philip (8/5): Value for Money - Directions to hotel from Termini station proved sound and although 20 minutes + to walk I found hotel without difficulty despite evening darkness. Room was clean and functional except for TV, quiet and undisturbed at night. Once I mastered public transport found closer route by tram. Value for money.

- HR (10/5): Athena Hotel is brilliant! - Athena hotel was truly a great choice, from the location to its staff, my family and I had a brilliant stay for seven nights. The hotel has so many shops near buy so you won't go hungry and has great links to the main hub, Termini Station. We walked there everyday and it took us about fifteen mins. The staff were amazing, in particular the two female members of the team, but all staff were helpful! Our hot water wasn't working for a bit and one of the staff immediately issued another room to have a shower in, the service is brilliant! Our room was clean and it had air con and a TV, both worked. The breakfast was delicious with a wide range of foods available. Our experience as a family was really good and we found it hard to fault the hotel. It was brilliant!
- couple in 50s (4/5): You need to accept you are in the university area - The reception is on the first floor no signs bit annoying when you arrive late. Make sure the room you get is what you booked we had to change rooms as the one we got was not what we booked and we were not impressed to wast our holiday sorting it out
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good place to stay on a budget. - I stayed there for two nights and had a queen bed. The room was relatively small but was clean and had a little balcony. The bathroom and the shower were also small but OK. The hotel is close to metro stations which makes it easy to get to the city centre and attractions. It is also located out of the touristic area and near the University of Rome (thus a student neighbourhood) and therefore there are a lot of cheap places to eat nearby. Overall, it is a good place to stay and what you get worth what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Friendly staff but - Friendly very helpful staff but what let it down was the air conditioning unit was insufficient and with it being so hot meant we could not sleep the whole time, the room was poorly lit dark and dingy. If the air con worked it would be an ok place if you needed somewhere to lay your head but there are definitely no thrills, not somewhere you want to spend much time.
- Elena (10/5): Great family run hotel and very close to the city. - The hotel was really good. The staff was very helpful with directions and other information and exceptionally friendly. The breakfast was very good especially the freshly prepared cappuccino . We had free WiFi and could also use a laptop and tablet free of charge. The location was excellent, only 30 minutes walk from the central train station termini, and a 5 minutes walk to the metro station. Within 15 minutes all major attractions in Rome could be reached from there. All together it was a very pleasant stay and I would definitely recommend this hotel!
- travellover (6/5): single room is very small - The single room is very small, 10 sq. meters maximum. No air conditioner, so have to open the window, then you hear all kinds of noise, the elevator, the next door's TV, toilet flushing, etc. I see someone is complaining about the breakfast in their review. But I think the food is ok, at least there're choices. You won't complain any more after you only have 1 croissant for breakfast at some other place in Rome.

- Rebecca M P (4/5): The cheapest we could find on a Friday night...good value, but nothing special - My boyfriend and I spent our last night in Rome at the Athena because the hotel we had stayed at the night before (Diplomatic Hotel) near the Vatican was triple the price, and we just couldn't afford it. The closest metro stop is Policlinico, and it was a bit of a walk (20 minutes) to the hotel, but a very straight shot. We would not stay there again unless we were in a similar situation of not wanting to pay $300 for our last night in Rome knowing that we had to be out the door on the way to the airport at 6 AM. The hotel is in a university zone, so there is a decent selection of eateries and bars. The hotel staff was fantastic. Both the male receptionists that we dealt with were exceedingly hospitable, giving us recommendations on where to eat and setting up a taxi to take us to the airport. In the morning he even gave us yogurt and bread to go since we left before breakfast started. Oh, and five minutes after getting in bed, the entire bed fell to the floor. It's was pretty comfortable after that, and the staff made know fuss about it. I got the impression it wasn't the first time a bed had collapsed!
- Peter (8/5): Traditional Italian hotel. - Good location metro (Bologna, blue line) 10min away. Shops, restaurant, cafe and pizzeria near by. None tourist area. Cheep electronic shop minute away. Be prepare to try your Italian in the shops.
- J Taylor (10/5): Enjoyable - For the price you can expect the hotel to be a bit utilitarian. The building is a little old and power/phone/etc. are run in conduits on the walls rather than inside the wall. It doesn't look bad, but it might not have the seamless, finished look you're accustomed to. The building and room was very clean, and the staff worked hard to keep it that way. Speaking of the staff, they are very nice. Depending on who's working the desk, their English might be a bit basic but certainly they know enough to get you checked in, etc. It would be helpful to bring an Italian-English dictionary or similar just in case. They are very patient in trying to understand you and what you need. (I wold have formed this in to readable paragraphs but apparently this review system doesn't allow that. Sorry.)
- Prynce J (6/5): Budget Hotel, Don't expect any Luxury !! - This Hotel meets all the basics needs, Not bad for location and transportation is easily accessible. The all inclusive breakfast is very limited and you'd be better off having breakfast outside the Hotel. For what its worth its convenient for low budget purposes but should you require some pampering,entertainment good food etc this is not the place for that. However for a quick sleep and go its perfectly ideal.
- Jim (8/5): Good budget hotel - A basic but pleasant hotel. Friendly staff. About 5 to10 mins walk from Metro station, just 2 stops from Termini. Note that the hotel reception is on the first floor of the building, not clearly marked when you walk in the front door. We had a good 4 night stay at a good price. The desk staff were helpful in advising which buses and routes to take to visit Rome's many wonders.
- Ayayayay (8/5): Very good value for money - Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the amenities are OK, the staff is super friendly and it is located at 20 minutes walking distance from the central station.
- Pawel (4/5): Bizarre, dirty, but good location - When I checked in I was sent to another building around 100 meters away, to find that my room was actually a room in an ordinary apartment that had been converted to a hotel room. Not the best situation to find when you are tired and just want to relax. The room and the bathroom were fairly dirty, the converted apartment was noisy and the level of privacy was fairly substandard -- the owner/caretaker spent most of his time strutting around the corridor in his pyjamas. The shower trickled some warm water but without any pressure. Still the location is good, so if all you want to do is sleep (and you are a heavy sleeper.)

- jpah (8/5): Up to seasons - Except Summer, it's good to stay there for relaxation, because of lack of air conditionner. Breasfast and free internet are very good and helpful. And except sleeping, the room is not big enough.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good value close to centre of Rome. - This is good value and a good standard for a budget hotel.. Entry is down a side street and you have to press a button to gain entry. Then up a small lift to reception on the first floor. Breakfast is fine and I will stay here next time unless I am richer.
- Pasta Luigi (2/5): Avoid this one! - Although reservation was made over six months in advance, the assigned room was tiny at 6 X 9 feet with windows opening into an elevator shaft. Just big enough for an Army style cot, small refrig and a tiny TV. Bathroom was about 6 X 3. Desk person handed me a bottle of wine at check in and mumbled something about small room. The floor was dirty. I would not stay in this hotel again or recommend it.
