Guest Reviews
- Erik (4/5): - Price was high for the condition plus they charge extra fee when you check in. I only stayed 1 night... The sheets need to be washed/cleaned much better with bleach and better detergent. The pillows had makeup and lots of stains everywhere on sheets. The rooms need more attention please.
- Robin (6/5): - It’s a very quiet area to get away from all the noise as I was on vacation from Houston, tx. I got the back corner room an they have plenty of cameras. The only thing that could have front
- ROSA ELENA (4/5): - La atención
- Arturo (8/5): - Le falto , toallas para la alberca , y limpieza en la habitación.
- Javi (10/5): - Very nice custom service
- Patricia (8/5): - Great location a short walk to shopping dinning and beach
- Jamie (8/5): - Walkable if u can walk. Quiet at night. Clean & modest for price point. Will likely return
- Janet (6/5): - We arrived later in nite. It would be nice if there was a bottle of water and plastic glasses in room. Ac good. Grounds very pretty . Nice pool. Front desk man very nice at check in. Very Quiet property. Woke up to the birds singing.
- Yu (6/5): - The property located at very convenient location. Easy transportation and close to everything.
But the hotel room conditions like the brick wall and ceiling and furniture need upgrade for sure. Also the water pressure for the toilet is very low. It takes lots of attempts to flush. The wifi signal was not good as well.
- Jared (4/5): - no era amable y estaba sucio el cuarto y también las camas. no tan seguras las puertas y muy oscuro todo
- Constantin (6/5): - The hotel location looks like a residential area on the lagoon side; however is not far from Presidente Intercontinental hotel, where one can enjoy first class facilities on the beach, restaurants, large pool, etc. To do that you need to pass through hotel lobby to access above facilities. Public transportation toward Downtown is fairly convenient R1 and R2 busses, just 50 cents USD fare. Overall, Grand Royal Lagoon hotel for the budget price is acceptable.
- Ana Luisa (10/5): - Everything
- shantal (2/5): - Minutes after checking in , there was a power outage, and everyone else had electricity , there was no WiFi in the rooms , they didn't want to give a refund and nobody wanted to talk ,they said there was the manager , they also charged me $40 for sanitation , after already paying so much for a dirty nasty, uncomfortable room
- Verified traveler (4/5): Necesitan invertirle dinero.
- howard (2/5): - On the first day There was no light and no running water, when I ask the manger what’s wrong they said that Mexico electric company is the problem ,and light will come back in two days time. There’s no internet in the rooms however you can get internet in the middle of the property but you have to be careful of crocodile. Then I rent an apartment down the street and it has electricity so I ask for a refund and they did not give it to me.
- Sanjida (4/5): - Lack of in-hotel facilities, cleanliness issues and lack of hotel staffs.
- Julie (8/5): - First we were suprise not having any balconey, never thought I had to ask for this in hotel. But there were a little cute spot outside to hangout, it was just perfect.
For the price it was really good, calm and clean.
It's not a 5 stars, but we didn't pay for that neither!
- Davis (10/5): - Quiet, clean and comfortable
- Pedro (6/5): - Good location. It´s Ok for the pice
- Larissa (8/5): - It is a good hotel for the price.
- Michelle Ann Del (8/5): - Expedia had pictures of a room that doesn’t exist at this small hotel. Unfortunately, I booked the room that doesn’t exist. Hotel staffer Francisco was very helpful. The next day he was able to offer a room, while not the room I had booked, the room offered was a good alternative for us. This is a very basic hotel. If you want frills, go somewhere else. Cable TV is Spanish language only. Our stay was very pleasant. Location is close to shopping and restaurants. We will stay here again.
- Jorge A (2/5): Terrible - Solamente diré que es el peor lugar en Cancún en donde me he hospedado.
- Asela (8/5): - Everything was good, excellent services!!
- Mohamed (8/5): - i liked it
- Adrian (8/5): - Bien ubicada, cerca de la zona Hotelera
- David (6/5): - Cheap so want expecting wonders just the things that it says in the description or wifi in room... None. Refrigerator... None. Staff was good and the shower was probably the best we'd found down here unlimited hot water and pressure that forces you to be careful! Beds were very hard and you'll toss and turn often. Great location quiet but close to everything
- CURTIS WAYNE (2/5): - The desk clerk wouldn't call for a confirmation of my shuttle and they left me.
- Maria (6/5): - The beds are horrible one you can feel the springs from the mattress and other bed it's us hard us a rock only a sheet on the bed.
- James (8/5): - It was what i expected from a budget hotel. Was clean and pool and grounds were nice place to relax outside. Needs new beds and furniture i. Rooms very dated. But i would stay there again
- Betty jean (10/5): - Great places to stay cold AC clean rooms only backing is Wi-Fi reception isn't great
- Larissa (6/5): - It’s a nice cozy hotel near the lagoon and walking distance to the beach and supermarket. It has a swimming pool and garden. It’s right a budget. I would stay there again.
- Mark (8/5): - Perfect for MY need to crash for a layover. Helpful to jnsure an early AM cab to airport for Internacional departure
- Francis (2/5): - The lady lied to us saying Cancun had a mandatory mask use and wouldn't let us come in without a mask. Which we found out was a lie afterwards. They had no water to drink no shampoo no soap nothing extra because they were scared to get sick. We were not sick. Could be a very nice place to stay.
- Ceceile (6/5): - Great price,Nice lawns/views, poolside lounge, picnic tables & cabanas. Room cleaning daily. Very quiet area with good, safe walking places/ eatery. Close to Captain Hook evening cruise shows and dining. Wear a mask when checking in/ out at front office though. I would stay there again.
- james (8/5): Good budget hotel - Hotel is fine if your looking to travel on a budget. Its close to hotel zone.rooms are clean but dated.there is no restaurant but there are lots of places real close great place to stay if you just want a hotel with no frills.
- Anton (8/5): - I give 4 stars because it was exactly and what I expected and wanted, a mid range hotel that is tucked out the way but within waking distance of everything. This included the 360 surf hire shack, one of the main activities I wanted to do during my 2 weeks in Cancun.
The room was of a decent standard for the price with comfy king-size bed, wifi, security box, pool, and 24 hour hot water. The staff were helpful and friendly enough.
Only thing I would say was that it seemed to be more local families staying there so wasn't as much opportunity to meet people, as a solo traveller, but that's not on the hotel so if you are looking for a reasonable room in a good location (regular buses run if you don't like to walk) and at a reasonable price you could do a lot worse!
- David Aaron Lichtenstein (10/5): - Great hotel - wonderful location - just a short walk to the beach, restaurants, stores, etc. My room was very clean and well sized and had everything I needed. All of the staff were polite and kind. I would highly recommend for one looking for a reasonably priced accommodation in the Cancun hotel zone
- Aaron (4/5): - Dirty. Wads of hair on stairs. In shower. Horrible house cleaning
- TRACEY (6/5): - The staff was good but to our standards it was not where we would normally stay.. we bought cleaning supplies to clean the r room. Beds hard everything is outdated. But if you're not gonna spend time in the room and just sleep on a budget then this is your place.
- Lance (6/5): - There is some holes in the building and there is animals that go through them. When we stayed there was a small lizard that came in are room. There were bugs in the room as well. They also charge you commission when you get there even after you already paid for everything online and they only take cash for it with no receipt which makes me think they made that part up.
- Raúl Antonio (10/5): - Restauración
- MIlagros (2/5): - The lady at the front was very rude. Did not greet us. The room is fine if you just need place to sleep. Nothing grand. But the front desk lady really needs some customer service training!
- Stephen (10/5): - A nice property that let's you enjoy a good nights rest. Convenient and easy to access transportation and the HZ.
- Patricia (6/5): - The pictures on the website do not reflect the actual conditions of the hotel. If you’re going to be exploring and sight seeing & if you’re not going to spend time in the hotel, it’s ok but if you’re planning to spend most of the time holed in, just look for alternatives. There’s no personal treatment by the check in clerk- not really rude but not friendly either.
- Andrew (8/5): - If your on a budget this works
The rooms are clean the shower is amazing the beds hard which I love , small balcony AC works well tv is good if you speak Spanish. Location is a nice 12-15 minute walk to the coco bongo beach.clubs and shopping. Nice little pool very good restaurant 10 doors down . Budget hotel yes worth the $ definitely
- Adolfo (10/5): - Good deal
- David (10/5): - Great hotel! The location is perfect - in the heart of the hotel zone, walkable to a great beach, tons of restaurants, stores, etc. My room was clean and comfortable, and everyone I interacted with was polite and helpful. Definitely a great value and a place I plan on returning to.
- Efren (6/5): - Good location
The bed was. NOt very confortable
The location was good
The tv don’t work
The AC was good.
- Andrea (4/5): - The room was super clean and tidy.
Wifi is terrible and could only use it around the pool.
Pool was dirty and cloudy, most of the times. No soundproof hotel, heard everything from the other rooms.
- Carlos (10/5): - It's good for what you pay.
- Gloria (10/5): - Excellent price for the location
- CRISTIAN (10/5): - Everything seemed excellent to me
- Andrew (8/5): Decent Budget Hotel - Hotel is a bit rundown and a bit far from the main area. However for the price it isn't bad. The front desk service was excellent, would stay again if just for a night or 2, but any longer I would look for something a little nicer.
- Nikaury (2/5): - Rooms were dirty with broken windows and all
- Verified traveler (2/5): I payed ahead and they didn’t find my reservation - When I got there they couldn’t find my reservation, and I had already payed my stayed.
- Matthew (4/5): - The hotel is inexpensive for a reason. Hotel is dated and it shows. Room walls are dirty, sheets were a little dirty. Pool looked clean. And the location is close to the main area and you can walk there. Staff was friendly. However, the WiFi had no signal in the rooms. For me, this was a deal breaker beyond the issues above. The property was open so I was concerend with security.
- Alexander Dietmar (10/5): - GREAT STAY
- Michael Angel Perez (6/5): - You get what you pay for. Mold issues in room and in bathroom. Pool was cloudy and a bit green.
- Marvin L (2/5): Not happy with hidden information - There was no phone in the room; when I checked in, the counter clerk told me about a $125.00 sanitation charge; the sanitation charge was not part of the advertisement. The small AC for the room was above the corner of the bed and dripped onto the bed, so I had to stay on one side instead of sleeping in the middle. All three pillows were flat and not comfortable at all.
- Hector (8/5): - Buena ubicacion buenas habitaciones
- Verified traveler (10/5): - GREAT PLACE
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was friendly, understanding and accommodating. The area is safe, clean and has great transportation. It could need some updates, but overall was great. Was a quiet place to come to at the end of the day to relax. Will definitely stay here next time!!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - AVOID THIS HOTEL! It is not worth it. This hotel was very shady from the beginning. The sheets were so smelly, there was ants everywhere, toilets wouldn’t flush, and the air conditioning was leaking. The only thing good about this place was the location. I would have overlooked all this had I not experienced such terrible customer service when my bag was stolen from reception. I requested to leave my bags at the front desk in case I would not be able to return before checkout time. Was told it was not a problem. When I came bag one bag was missing. I was told there was no way it was stolen since it was very secure always locked when everyone was away. I asked to see the security cameras, but they started acting sketchy and was told they did not have access to them. I requested to speak with the manager, he said cameras weren’t working, even though the camera at the front of the entrance was clearly ON. They didn’t offer to check the log of people coming in or ask around. They told me it was MY FAULT for leaving them there as they don’t usually allow people to leave bags there. I was NOT told this in the beginning, had I known, I would have left my bags in my room and asked another member of our party to stay behind. At no point was I told it was not allowed or that there was no security. Manager and staff were extremely unhelpful. Manager was rude and said there was nothing he could do. How can a hotel have ZERO security?! I had to argue for over an hour to come to a solution.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything was good
- Mike (8/5): - For price it was goos value
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great Location, for a great price. 15 minute walk from great beaches, bars, good restaurants.
- Arcelia (8/5): Location - Its small nice hotel with good price.. good location..good service & not so far to the beach...
- Oscar (8/5): - Sorry. But supplies and condition of the property is mediocre. Perfect location, but they need to upgrade this property.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent option for staying in Cancun at a fraction of the price of beach front hotels. Calm and quiet, ideal for families. Breakfast and lunch are of very good quality and pricing.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Breakfast was pretty bad. Hard toast! No bar. No fridge in room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very quiet and very personal, the management was very accommodating in upgrading my room again. This is the second time I’ve stayed here and will stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Small quaint property, but wifi was scarce. Off the beaten path.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent food, clean rooms a bit old but clean, and a close location for malls, restaurants etc.
- SC (4/5): - The online pictures doesn't show everything. There is only standup shower in the room. Window curtain is light, doesn't block sun lights. You can hear all the noise from inside the room. The room i was given, room deadbolt didn't work. The shower door didn't have a lock. While showering, the door opens 1/4th automatically.
- Tanya (2/5): - Need update ASAP. No phone to reception, receptionist doesn’t speek english, no smoke alarm, bathroom is terrible!!!!! 20 min walk to nearest beach!!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Its location was within walking distance to the Cancun night scene. The lagoon in the morning during breakfast was a great view.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Front desk person not very happy. same thing next morning. Smiles are cheap! room no bottled water available anywhere. glad we had brought our own. nasty hard bed and pillows. This place was cheap, but could be so much better even at that price. Location on lagoon has potential. outdoor bar was nice although closed at 7 pm
- G. (6/5): - It is ok if you are on a budget. You can survive here but don`t expect too much. This is an old hotel and needs refurbisihing. There`s no wifi in the rooms, only around the reception area. You can`t sit on the deck chairs after susnset because the guy at the reception tells you to get off and fold it.
- MICHAEL (10/5): Quiet and Comfortable - I was very satisfied with how nice and comfortable this hotel was. The pool and grounds are very well kept. The restaurant has decent food and drinks in the morning at reasonable prices to get your day off to a good start. I think I got lucky and was able to use wifi from my room.
- Gary (8/5): Wonderful, affordable hidden gem. - Wonderful stay at Grand Royal Lagoon. Hotel is close to Centre of hotel zone, about 15 minutes walk or 2 minute bus ride (120pesos $1cd). Most times you have the pool to yourself or one other couple. Property is a little older but well maintenned. Nice pizza place around corner and convenience store minutes away. Hey for $75cd can't go wrong! Most of the "super clubs" near by start at $150-$250usd per person per day. If that's what you want don't come here but for a simple clean and affordable get away Grand Royal Lagoon is your place! Cheers
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is hidden jewel in the heart of Cancun. No worries with the hustle of big hotels, busy streets. Nicely tucked away!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - If you only need a place to sleep it will do, you get what you pay for (not much)
- Verified traveler (4/5): - When I arrived they pretended they didn’t have my reservation. The woman shuffled papers for five minutes saying my name over and over. When I showed her my reservation on the Expedia app, she suddenly found it on top of the computer keyboard. She then put us in the highest room (3rd floor, no elevator, my mom’s 86) that had no blankets and was not very clean. The breakfast staff were pleasant.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The view of the lagoon is pretty and the location is good, but nothing else is worth it. The property looks old and needs renovation. In addition to that, there’s no wifi in the rooms, which is totally unconvenient for foreign tourists!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great option - clean, comfortable rooms, wonderful location near multiple beaches, restaurants, and nightlife, and good service. A top choice for travelers to Cancun on a budget. Will definitely stay there again if in Cancun.
- B (4/5): - Upon arrival didn’t have room ready, finally retrieved key and walked up the stairs to the room. Key card didn’t work. Back down to wait for another half hour. (43) degrees no ac. Then she asks if I can do one bed while looking at me,my wife and my two children. I told her no thanks we paid for two beds. There is 4 of us. She spoke very little English and was not happy about it. Finally got in our room on the 3rd floor no elevator. Two single beds that were rock hard. And one small pillow for one bed and no other. We paid extra each day for breakfast when we booked the room. Breakfast was two pieces of rock hard toast (just for two people kids weren’t included )and then he gave us a menu for real food. The window in the bathroom was complete smashed and exposed to the outside. Luckily we were on the 3rd floor.
Finally to top it off we had someone absolutely losing his mind saying he can’t take it anymore and was going to kill himself while screaming and pounding on the walls and doors( person directly below us )
After about half an hour of this at 10 pm I finally went down and asked if they could call security. You could hear the man screaming (in English and Español) while I was asking the front desk to do something. They were not concerned until I told them my children were trying to sleep.
Just piss poor attitude. I never leave bad reviews but this was ridiculous. Find somewhere please.
- Paco (6/5): - Location is key very close to the main area of the hotel zone... And it was decently clean.
- Roman (4/5): You get what you pay for - The location was beautiful, but the hotel it self needs to be updated and cleaned. We found cockroaches in our room, but then again it was one of the cheapest hotel on the strip soo what did we expect? You get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Termites, staff seen wearing my missing clothes... - Wasn't expensive and the location is fine.
However: breakfast was so bad (and I have had bad breakfast!)
My friend found termites on his bed caused by the bed frame.
And item of my clothing went missing, then I found a member of staff wearing it as I left (I had cut the sleeves off in a certain way so knew it was mine). The man in charge at the time tried to ignore it and brush me off. I explained how it had gone missing and knew it was mine. He simply tried walking away. I got it back after the maid basically returned it to me (filthy) and basically accepted it had come from my room. Whether accidental or not it found it's way to someone else's back very quickly.
Not concerned by the cost but the principle of potentially being stolen from. The manager was exceptionally rude.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Ad said wifi in rooms. There isn't. If you want wifi, then you have to go down to the unlit pool area.
No phone in room. Door lock broke.
Last day I was there, I was taking a shower and the water completely stopped coming out of the showerhead. Had to rinse off with a water bottle over 30 minutes.
Not a good hotel. Do not stay here.
- J (6/5): - Nothing fancy about this Hotel. Not to far from the Hotel Zone. We used it to sleep and shower. Paid for Breakfast and was very disappointed with what was given, save yourself the money. Has a small pool and staff was friendly. Definitely worth the price.
- Rex (6/5): inexpensive hotel in the hotel zone - I would stay there again if I were traveling alone and just needed a place to sleep.
The good: The hotel is 100 yards from a small market which has a sandwich shop inside. Even closer is a small pizza place run by an Italian fellow using a brick, wood-fired oven. A grocery is within walking distance. The grounds are well maintained and sit on a bay. Signs warn of crocodiles in the water. The owners (man and wife) were in the office when needed. One night the music by the pool was too loud and I went to the office (no phones in rooms) to ask if they would turn the music down. Before I got back to my room, the music was turned off. The shower had plenty of hot water, was roomy, and didn’t have a water-softener. Maid service was offered daily but left an envelope requesting tips two days before checkout.
The bad: The A/C had to run constantly so the humidity wouldn’t takeover. Wet clothes didn’t dry because of the humidity in the room. The free breakfast was outdoors in a thatch hut by the water. It consisted of 10-12 bite-sized slices of watermelon, cantaloupe, or papaya, 2 pieces of toast, coffee, and a small glass of, what tasted like, tang. We stopped eating the free breakfast after day two, when a bird flew over to where the fruit was prepared and held and stole a piece off a plate, after which, it was served to me missing the piece of fruit. Not hygienic to eat with the crows.
For me, the good outweighed the bad. Your mileage may vary.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent attention and clean rooms.
The hitel has 3 flloors and no elevator, but all was excellent beside that.
- Scott (8/5): pretty basic but good and cheap - Initial reaction was OMG nasty. The place is a bit run down. Old furnishings, crumbling concrete in a few spots which should be repaired (exposed re-bar which is cancer for a building). I expected my room to have a balcony. Not all rooms have that, but the pool courtyard was just down a flight of stairs. Wifi does not work in rooms much at all but ok in the courtyard. My room could have been better but I didn't really spend much time in it anyways. Shower door would not stay shut, towel rod by the basin was missing. Very clean though. the maid was very friendly always smiling. Reception desk is helpful if you need directions or something. For the cost it's very good. Hotels in Cancun can be very pricey.
- Jackie (8/5): Ok place to stay near the beach - We stayed for one night in this hotel. It was clean and had hot water and AC. We stayed in the double bed with a pool view. We really only used it to sleep. It was close to the Presidente hotel about 2 blocks away and we walked to the bus stop there to go to the markets/beach. The taxis were more expensive and we didn't mind the walking. There are places to eat around the corner as well as a money exchange/gas station. We got in the pool once it was dark and the pool closed at 9 PM. We had complimentary fruit plates and coffee in the morning. Overall, it is a good place to spend the night.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Rooms are very old.................................
- Gilberto (6/5): Bad services at the Restaurant - Not friendly at the Restaurant, bad customer service, I definitely not going here again. Not recommended.
- Miktel (4/5): Room Quality - When we first gor there they tried to put us in a room which was dirty blood on pillow 2 ac one newer than the other the older one was all rusted a grundgy looking, went down to complain and they said all they had was a bigger room but would cost more, then they came up with one right beside office which was real good for wifi probably the only room you'd get it in room, but it faced to the street and there was a lot of noise but this room was much nicer than the first.
- Michael (10/5): - nice
- Amanda (6/5): Expedia ruined my booking - After a day of travel, lost bags and a 2hr taxi wait we arrived at the hotel to find only one of two rooms booked. Expedia sent the wrong paperwork.. at 2am not impressed and looking forward to my refund.
