The rooms were comfortable, well equipped & spacious. The breakfast was very varied & lots of choice. The staff were very courteous & we will definitely stay here again when we visit Shanghai
- BrigitteGolightly (6/5): not a boutique hotel at all! - we chose this hotel based on the good reviews and stayed for many nights but we were quite disappointed. if you treat it as an ordinary 3.5 to a 4 star hotel it is good. However, if you are expecting the charms of a boutique hotel, you will be disappointed. I choose to stay in boutique hotels wherever i go as generally, you get a very special experience but in this case, i don't think they know the first thing of what it means to run a boutique hotel. First, let's look at the positives. 1) the location is good - 3 minutes walk to nanjing main drag and close to restaurants and shops. 2) rooms are well kept and clean 3) hotel is quiet. what makes me think it is lacking as a boutique hotel. the service staff are just perfunctory. 1) the answers to most questions is "i don't know" "we don't have it" etc. The i don't know would be answers to questions like how can i make a regional call or international call. what they don't have will be something as simple as a map. 2) the rooms either smell musty or smoky even though they have a no smoking policy - we changed our rooms but the effect was still the same. 3) the amenities in the hotel itself is really ordinary. we are lucky we brought our own ... this is not what you expect from a boutique hotel. 4) breakfast was just abysmal. so, you are paying for a boutique experience that you don't get. in that sense, i feel you are better off in a international 4 star chain that will be similarly anonymous and uninteresting. i am sorry i can find many positive things to say about yangtze boutique hotel. i try to like it but i didn't. for the price you pay, i think you can do better. or in fact - just pay half that amount and stay in holiday inn :). it will be similarly non-descript but it will be smack in the middle of nanjing road. If i were to visit shanghai again, i think i would choose to stay in the former french concession area. the bling bling of the lights on nanjing street is good but after one or two evenings, you have seen it all.

- Benjamin (10/5): - The Yangtze is a great hotel. This is our third stay here and we are going back next week before our trip ends. The staff are all very helpful. Our flight arrived early in the morning and we were able to leave our bags with concierge until we could check in properly. Our room was a really spacious room and the bath and shower area was big! The bath itself is huge and really deep (we don’t have a bath at home so we really appreciated it). One minor issue with the turndown service, they only turndown one side of the bed, but there was two of us so one of us was left out every night. Overall, a very comfortable hotel and very well located!
- 433hughr (10/5): 1930s in the 2020s - something different in Shanghai - As we know from previous visits, Shanghai has a great many first class hotels (usually at remarkably reasonable prices); but this time we thought we would look for something a bit different. The Yangtze dates from the 1930s and so has a history which gies back to the remarkable days of the foreign traders in the city. It is a few steps from People's Park; a few more bring you to Nanjing Road; and it is a short walke to the Bund. The hotel was completely refurbished a few years back, with the aim of recreating the 1930s in style yet delivering modern services. Its rooms are large for that time or this time; it is quiet, comfortable, and with excellent wifi and an included buffet breakfast to meet all tastes. We enjoyed our stay and hope to come back again.

- TravelGnomes (10/5): Charming elegant hotel in a very modern city - It was a lovely respite to stay here in a busy frenetic modern city. We were upgraded to a suite and it was so spacious - one room for us parents and a separate room with sofa bed for pour 25 year old son. Location is very convenient - walking distance to many local restaurants and a huge shopping mall (Raffles City) just across the road. We didn't walk to the Bund but it is a walkable distance. Didi car transport was easy to get from this hotel. Overall a lovely elegant atmosphere - unique from all the big chain hotels. However one comment is that there are giant soft toys on display from the outside balconies and lobby lounge sofas. Maybe that appeals to the Chinese market, but to the Westerner's eyes they are strangely out of place and incongruent.

- Jayesh (8/5): A nice hotel - We had a suite with a balcony. The room was nice and clean and the bathroom had a deep tub and a Japanese toilet which we always love in hotels. It was about a 10 minute walk to the Bund and the streets often have murals which is interesting and pretty. Breakfast had a choice of local and western foods. The metro is literally across the road and we used it to go everywhere. People Square is a 5 minute walk. It was always busy with lots of people with laminates (I learnt from our reception that it was grandparents with details about their grandchildren- rather like real life Tinder!!) Theres a big Mall at the end of the road by the Metro station.
- Barkerfamily (6/5): Disappointing hotel fell below our expectations - We were rather disappointed by this hotel. The room was a good size as was the bathroom but we had absolutely no view but looked out onto some boring buildings as our room was at the back of the hotel. The room was also a bit tired. The breakfast buffet was very limited and the chairs at breakfast were so old all the stuffing had gone and you sank down really low. They were quite uncomfortable. There is a metro stop across the road and People’s Square is about 150meters away at the top of the road. Nanjing Road East is also a 2 minute walk away so it is very well located. If you like walking like us you can easily walk to the Bund too in 15/20 minutes.
- Ciboney2000 (10/5): Lovely hotel, great location - We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend in December on our way to Thailand. My queries prior to our stay were answered quickly and efficiently. The hotel itself is lovely with an art deco style marble lobby and a beautiful stained glass roof. Our room was a great size with a very comfortable bed. Tea, coffee and water were provided, along with robes and slippers. We had a large bathroom with a huge tub which was decorated with rose petals one day for our anniversary. The staff were very friendly and luckily for us spoke decent English. The location really brings this hotel into its own though. It’s literally across the road to People’s Square metro so we took the Maglev from the airport then the metro the rest of the way. Cheap and easy. There’s are loads of local restaurants, supermarkets and greengrocers so everything you need is on hand. About 10/15 mins walk to The Bund, round the corner to the walking street East Nanjing Road and about 20 mins walk to Yu Gardens. We did get the metro places but also did a lot of walking as the weather was good and the hotel was so central. We would 100% stay here again. Loved the hotel, loved Shanghai!

Not stayed in a better hotel around the world. Top hotel great morning breakfast as well. Great decor,comfy bed and a lovely bath too.

- 529alexandrost (2/5): Awful experience, stay away from this hotel - I had a highly disappointing experience with this hotel. It's been 19 days since my stay, and I am still waiting for my refund for the security deposit. The hotel staff gave misleading information at check-in and check-out, assuring me that the refund process would be automatic and hassle-free. However, I later discovered that refunds to debit cards take significantly longer, something they failed to mention, leaving me unable to make an informed decision about my payment method. What’s worse, there was no clear indication during booking that a security deposit was even required. This lack of transparency has caused me a great deal of stress. I've had to waste time repeatedly following up with both the hotel and Booking.com to resolve this issue, but I am still without my money. The overall experience has left me feeling scammed. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone and strongly urge others to avoid it unless they enjoy paying extra for security deposits they will never get back.
- veronsle (10/5): Comfortable clean vintage modern hotel - A combination of classic charm and modern amenities hotel. Excellent service from all staff and the delicious buffet breakfast added its appeal. Strategically located beside Nanjing Road (East) shopping district - Do visit Miniso Land (Evening time). Walk along for an evening stroll to the bund area (Night view). Opposite the hotel about 3-5mins there is a subway underpass (Exit 14) near raffles city mall. Alternative if you want to head to the subway underpass with lesser stairs up or down, you could consider to enter raffles city mall and ride the escalator to basement (lesser stairs).
- Cheryl (10/5): - The staff of the hotel are welcoming, helpful, informative and attentive. Few minutes walking distance to the train station and few convenience stores around the hotel. A lot of local small eateries surrounding the hotel. Conveniently located in between Shimao Shopping Center and Raffles City Shopping Center. The hotel rooms still need a bit refurbishing as it is dated, however it is still acceptable as they are clean, useable and spacious.
- seamus0314 (10/5): Beautiful hotel with exceptional staff - The Yangtze is a lovely hotel centrally located for many tourist sights. My room was lovely with a big soaking tub as well as a rain shower. The housekeepers were so sweet as well, tucking in my daughter’s teddy bear at turn down each night. What a nice touch for I’m sure very busy people. The breakfast buffet was terrific, and I’ve got to thank the waiter who took time to show me what was vegetarian and what wasn’t. That sums up this hotel, actually, as everyone was patient and kind with my lack of Mandarin. It’s a beautifully appointed place with an exceptional staff. Stay here!
- Hui Cheng (10/5): - Large room with super huge bathroom. However, water pressure in shower was weak. When bathtub is being filled up (which takes ages), the shower cannot be used cos no water. Room too dimly lit. Beds felt worn. The room was very quiet. Superb location, just next to Nanjing pedestrian street. Plenty of dining options and cafes around. Hotel breakfast was in a cosy room. Whilst food selection is limited, the quality is good. Bfast also serve local noodles which is really delicious. Staff very attentive and helpful. They were friendly to chat and offer tips on where to go. Overall, excellent stay.
- urbanguy1974 (8/5): Satisfied with our stay - 3 night stay for 3 adults in 2 rooms Upside: (1) Location: Across the street from Raffles City mall. People's Square metro station is literally across the street, giving access to multiple subway lines. Nearest section of Nanjing Road pedestrian street is just a short walk away. Many places to eat in the neighborhood (2) Efficient and warm service: Housekeeping is "old school" with evening turndown, providing a touch of luxury. Plenty of bottled water replenished twice daily. Concierge/doormen were helpful with luggage and transport advice (3) Rooms were spacious and clean Downside: (1) Cheaper category rooms face the internal courtyard. Depending on the weather and time of the year (we went in autumn), these rooms can be a bit gloomy. However, courtyard-facing rooms probably are probably quieter, as the streets around the hotel are busy with traffic during the day (2) One room was on the warm side, with the thermostat showing temperatures as high as 26C. Spoke to the front desk, and the explanation given wasn't very clear, but I suspect the HVAC system had probably moved to heating mode, even while the weather was still relatively warm. Fan was offered, which I turned down. Didn't consider opening the windows as the room was at the ground level of the internal courtyard (3) Small gym. Well maintained, but with limited equipment

Rooms are spacious and clean. Only thing is the hotel is a tad old. Overall a great experience!

- Jacques (8/5): Gem in Shanghai - Very good hotel close to Nanjing Road for shopping in a good area. There is a mall with a foodcourt across the road and a fantastic Cantonese restaurant on the bottom floor of the hotel (not part of the hotel). Many local restaurants to try out with all the types of food you can think of. Fantastic location. We liked being close to Nanjing road, but not IN it. The hotel is directly opposite People's Square metro station. Line 2 from this station goes directly to both Shanghai airports and also the High Speed railway station at Hongqiao. Very easy to get to if using public transport or if planning day trips to neighbouring cities. The only thing is that the aircon does not work very well. The staff put an extra freestanding fan in our room for comfort, but we wish the aircon just worked properly. Hotels in this price range should not have an aircon problem. The amenities were very nice and the bathroom fantastic, with a huge bathtub and large separate shower. Overall the room was large and we enjoyed having a little balcony. Breakfast is average - only had it once. Thank you again to the staff for hosting us. We had a great time here. Thank you to the doormen who were always very friendly and made us feel welcome.
- MRF_Singapore (10/5): Return visit to the Yangtze Hotel - I stayed at the Yangtze Hotel once before around 2018 and was glad to have a chance to visit again. I noted only one change, the ground floor restaurant is now separated from the rest of the hotel and breakfast is served in a few rooms on the 9th floor. Maintenance is excellent, the room designs are varied and interesting, sleep quality was wonderful and the location is convenient right across from Exit 14 of People's Square subway station. In cool weather the Bund is a pleasant 15-20 minute walk away (not so pleasant on a steamy Shanghai summer day). This is a really charming hotel, a bit of a time warp in the best possible way, and unlike any other hotel I've come across in China.

Our room was very nice but the aircon wouldn’t drop below 22.5 which was a bit hot for a comfortable sleep in the heat of the summer and the water leaked from the shower into the toilet area making the floor very slippery.

- Kwang Hwee (8/5): Not a five star hotel but the venue was fantastic - My son saw a big cockroach in the toilet at the lobby. No assistance provided for carrying luggage into the room despite being a five star hotel. The welcome drink and dessert was mediocre - turned out to be juice made from syrup and two types of cakes which tasted full of artificial flavouring. Staff at the breakfast venue provided great service although the food selection was limited.

- Orator11 (8/5): Great Location And Good Service - One of the better hotels of the four that we stayed in this trip. Our room was well appointed and the queen bed was comfortable. The bathroom was large, and had a bathtub in addition to the usual facilities. Free drinks were provided in the mini bar. Wifi was pretty strong, though there was the usual Great Wall block from accessing FB etc, even with a VPN. The location is pretty good, with the metro just steps away in Raffles City. Service was friendly and most of the staff had a smile for guests and helped them with luggage etc. The housekeeping staff were superb. Two of the concierge were super helpful, though the chap on noon duty on Sunday 26 May may need to be retrained. While sitting in the lobby, we noticed that he only smiled at and helped foreigners, and not those who looked Asian.
- Taylor Jane (10/5): - Absolutely excellent hotel, easily the best I’ve stayed within Eastern Asia. Staff at door and front desk were lovely and accommodating, even receiving a free upgrade for our stay. Front door man was always willing to order our taxis and have a morning chat. Cleaners did an excellent job. Room was lovely, free mini bar highly appreciated. Is in excellent walking distance to every major attraction, masses of shopping and restaurants within a short distance. Location was always bustling, as most of Shanghai is, but you couldn’t hear any noise from the rooms. Everything about the hotel was ideal, however the excellent location comes out on top! You are really in the heart of the city and we frequently walked a maximum 30 mins to all our daily activities. We stayed for nearly 2 weeks and didn’t want to leave! Would definitely recommend and would absolutely return again if in Shanghai.

- 545pierret (10/5): A boutique hotel that walks the talk! - We opted for the Art Deco room category for complimentary limo transport and other treats! We have spent there four nights and five days. Our objective was an immersion in Shanghai, feeling its flavor and meeting with local friends in good condition—high standards amenities, caring personnel, splendid art Deco facade, and good breakfast. But on top of everything, the hotel location is unique: 200 meters to Nanjing Road, 5 minutes to Peoples’ Square, a 30-minute walk to the ancient city site… and Peoples Square Underground station with at least four lines. CNY 2599 per night for a two-bedroom room with breakfast included with direct booking sounds like a very reasonable price. NB: no room service. We will come back!
- homebeijing (10/5): Delightful, with spacious rooms - This is a lovely, small hotel near Peoples square. Its 1920's era with generous sized rooms, huge bathrooms and a very pretty entrance. The breakfast buffet on the 9th floor is great value and the staff are very helpful. The rooms are clean and well serviced with a turn down service every evening. The metro is nearby as are several convenience stores. There is limited parking out the front but we didnt have any problems getting Didi's to collect us. A very convenient spot.

- KodadesOz (10/5): When Location Really Matters! - This art deco style boutique hotel was a delight. The location is as good as it gets...literally yards away from a metro stop exit, it is close enough to see a lot of major attractions near and around the Bund and Nanjing Road. The room was very comfortable with some nice welcome touches - a fruit plate and candy. The concierge service was excellent. We were well serve by Ray who promptly took care of our taxi and tour recommendation needs. The only quibble may be the breakfast, which was ordinary, when so many alternatives abound in the area. All in all, we had a very comfortable stay, and will mostly likely go back on our next trip to Shanghai.

We had problem with aircon in our room and upon noticing that my wife and me were exhausted after long journey to shanghai, she immediately check for other available room. We were given an immediate replacement of room. Im grateful to her as we stayed in the hotel for 8 nights. I will definitely go back to stay in Yangtze for my next trip to Shanghai. The breakfast could be improve further though.

Real character, excellent location, very comfy bed and great service, can’t complement the staff enough for their service and the robot room service bringing ice - amazing! It is indicative of the sense of style and eye for detail that the robo- server was dressed in a traditional Chinese waistcoat! But the best of all- what a bathtub- luxurious wallowing! If I had to add a criticism the rooms were a little overheated and the air on didn’t seem to regulate - but easily solved by opening the windows and turning off the ac!

The rooms are spacious and very nice decorated, lovely details like the candy box on the night stand, big bathroom with bathtub. Also the decorations and furniture in the public space is very beautiful and matching the whole building. Breakfast is good. The staff is friendly and efficient on check in and check out. The hotel is very convenient right behind the Nanjing Road, next to People’s square and the MTR station. Restaurants and shops close by. I’m looking forward to come back soon.

We booked a taxi. We turned up 10 mind before the taxi was booked and eventually 40 minutes later, we had to hand over cash to the concierge in the hope that he was being honest on Uber

The location is perfect with great shopping, food choices and even body & foot massage. It was also located above the 人民广场地铁 which makes the location even accessible everywhere. We were greeted by very friendly staff especially the person named Leo. He helped us daily with our online purchases, kept our parcel and each time we arrived back to hotel lobby, he will informed that our parcels arrived. Offered to arrange transportation for us to the airport and even introduced us several good places to visit. Would love to stay at this hotel again.

I didn't know that they are no longer managed under the Langham brand, but this local brand is also upkeeping its reputation from the former Langham. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone who has the additional budget to spare. However, pls note that there is no private drop off area, you can request the concierge to hail a cab for you or you can also hail a cab/car from Didi, they can stop right across the hotel for pick -up and drop-off. They also helped with double checking our flight details in the chinese language website to make sure we went to the right airport terminal. Both the bedroom and the bathroom are big in size and are incredibly clean. The best in cleanliness out of all the hotels I’ve visited. The only thing that was surprising when we arrived was that there was no taxi parking area directly in front of the hotel, so we had to get out of the taxi and cross the street to reach the hotel lobby. The hotel staff was quick to cross the street and help with our luggage though so it wasn’t much an issue.
