Colazione ottima! Mi dispiace dirlo ma purtroppo la nostra camera era vicina al condotto di areazione che era attivo tutta la notte, quindi abbiamo sentito un ronzio continuo. Avrei dovuto chiedere un cambio stanza. Inoltre era piena di polvere anche in conseguenza all'attivazione dell'aria condizionata durante la notte.

Our room was massive and the bed was incredibly comfy. The location was also great as we were close to the boat/ferry service into town. Such a lovely stay and we'd definitely return. Nothing to not like. It was all great!

- james (9/5): beautiful hotel in quiet part of Venice. the longer i stayed the more i liked it. - Beautiful building in a quiet part of Venice. garden room was very nice. Staff were friendly. Vaporetto Boat stop nearby, change at lido for airport boat. magical sailing into Venice. Breakfast was great, although a bit chaotic with too many staff/guests. outside breakfast area was not open as it was winter. not a big issue but room spotlights came on when opening door, i kept waking my wife up when getting up early. outside chair cushion's soaking wet, would be better with hard chairs which could dry.

Our room overlooked the football stadium & the noise from the game & especially the pre & post match entertainment was phenomenally loud into the late evening. Un aspetto che ho apprezzato particolarmente è la disponibilità verso i cagnolini: all’arrivo ci sono stati forniti ciotola e cuscino dedicati, un gesto davvero premuroso. Il personale è sempre stato educato, cordiale e disponibile, contribuendo a rendere il soggiorno ancora più piacevole. Ottima anche la colazione, varia e di qualità. L’hotel non si trova proprio in centro, ma è comunque possibile raggiungerlo con una piacevole passeggiata; in alternativa, il vaporetto è comodamente situato a pochi passi dalla struttura. Once again – this Four Star hotel deserves Five Stars for service and value. Our EIGHTEENTH YEAR at the Hotel Sant’Elena in July 2025 was even more enjoyable than our previous seventeen visits, and our annual trip was, again, a wonderful experience in this, one of the most beautiful of cities on Earth. The first class hotel team once again excelled in the quality of service. Personable staff, abundance of wonderful food, impeccable cleanliness, and a willingness to ensure that our every wish was catered for. Our mornings began, as usual in bright sunshine with the warmest of breakfast welcomes from the staff and a wonderful, abundant display of food. A fantastic start to the day. We were able, again, to explore the exquisite surroundings, including easy railway trips to some of the other historic cities in the Veneto and surrounding area, including Verona, Treviso, Padua, Murano, Burano and Vicenza. FOOD: the variety of food is fine and lavishly plentiful. There is a very generous breakfast array of fresh fruit juices, milk, bread rolls, croissants, jams and other preserves, fresh fruit salad, cold meats, cheeses, cereals and yoghurts, cakes, sausages, bacon, scrambled egg, fresh fruit, tea and coffee. I’m always amazed at the quantity and range of food provided, right up to the end of service at 11am. Breakfast may be taken in the air-conditioned Dining Room or al fresco at tables on the garden lawn in the quiet morning sunshine (or, if you’re feeling lazy, in your bedroom for a small additional charge). We enjoyed dinner at the hotel more often this time than in previous years. The hotel has a slightly more limited menu than the 'tourist' restaurants, although meals are surprisingly keenly priced. If you are a fan of fillet steak, or branzino (sea bass) cooked to absolute perfection, as we are, you'll have a great experience. LOCATION: Being in the only green (predominantly residential) area of the main island of Venice, it's fresh, clean and very peaceful. The hotel has been created in a former convent, and has a large enclosed lawned garden (recently re-landscaped) which is ideal for breakfasting, peaceful relaxation and sunbathing. The hotel is literally only 200 metres from the vaporetto (public waterbus) stop on the edge of the Venice lagoon – absolutely ideal when arriving and departing. During your stay, you’ll see plenty of distressed travellers struggling to cope with lugging their heavy baggage around for an hour or two on foot, trying to find their hotel in the bewildering maze of small streets at the start and end of their holiday in the heat of the mid-day sun. For first-time visitors to Venice, it's a little disorientating getting your head around travel and connections. Travel agents refer to "Venice and the Veneto" - well, you'll find that the majority of hotels listed are not actually on the main island of Venice at all, but on the nearby mainland area of Mestre, which is modern, with an urban and industrial flavour. GETTING ABOUT: The main island of Venice is just that, an island surrounded by water. You'll arrive by air at either Marco Polo Airport, Treviso Airport (both on the mainland) or by road or rail via the causeway at the north end of the island. There are no roads, therefore no cars – so don’t bother hiring one in advance! Transport is by foot or by water – even bicycles are prohibited. I wouldn’t recommend Venice to anyone with mobility issues – each year we see the people in wheelchairs struggling to negotiate the bridges and other obstacles with sheer exhaustion and frustration. Improvements have been made recently by providing ramps on many major bridges, but it’s not practicable for the smaller bridges (over 400 of them). From Marco Polo Airport (our preferred airport), you can walk to the nearby vaporetto / water taxi stop in ten minutes, or get a private water taxi (a covered motor launch with open back) at the airport which takes us speedily and in great style direct to the jetty at the hotel in around 40 minutes at a cost of around €120. You’re allowed to share a water taxi and divide the cost – a great deal which makes the vaporetto (public waterbus) service unattractive – water taxis can carry a dozen people. For us, it's the only way to arrive and depart. The alternative is the vaporetto which is crowded, usually with standing room only. The vaporetto is cheaper but takes much longer – it will take you to the vaporetto stop at Sant Elena, from where the Hotel Sant'Elena is just an easy five-minute stroll. The vaporetto runs every ten minutes from Sant Elena, and will take you to St. Mark's Square in just 10 minutes (*don't forget to buy your multi-day pass for the vaporetto at the airport on arrival - unlimited walk on / walk off trips. You can also buy them at the magazine stand near the vaporetto stop at Sant’Elena) If you feel like stretching your legs, St. Mark's is only a 20 minute leisurely stroll away from the Hotel Sant’Elena along the lagoon edge, passing the Biennale Gardens and the Arsenale / Maritime Museum (both extremely worthwhile attractions) – a beautiful stroll at sunset. In the opposite direction, the vaporetto will take you from Sant’Elena to the Lido in just a single stop for a day lounging on the beach. ACCOMMODATION: The rooms are good-sized, very comfortable and are beautifully air conditioned. The beds, bed linen and towels are superb, and the cleanliness is impeccable. The decor is modern, light, cool and airy. It's a sign of a good employer that good staff are retained, and we were again looked after impeccably by the excellent team, some of whom have been with the hotel since we began visiting eighteen years ago! DINING OUT LOCALLY: Midway along your walk from the vaporetto stop and the hotel you’ll see Vecia Gina Pizzeria (Gina’s) a friendly, informal pizzeria bar and restaurant run by the beautiful Barbara. It’s not only a great place to pause for a refreshing Aperol Spritz at a table under the trees on your way back to the hotel, but they offer a full range of delicious and inexpensive pizza meals which can be eaten inside or outside. A great favourite with local families, highly recommended. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area. Being set in a residential area, you’ll be joining the locals for dinner. VALUE: The fact that we returned for our EIGHTEENTH year says it all. The Hotel Sant'Elena is perfect for us, but do check out other 4 Star hotels for price and quality at Booking.com or Hotels.com, just to satisfy yourself. You’ll find, though that the prices for equivalent 4 Star accommodation ON THE MAIN ISLAND can be as much as double what we pay at the Sant’Elena. If price is the most important factor for you, hotel accommodation is cheaper on the Lido or the mainland, although you’ll then have the additional travel every day to and from the main island. Whatever hotel you choose, do make sure that you ignore all claims about close proximity to San Marco / St. Mark's Square! Venice is heaving with visitors at most times of the year, and if you're anything like us, you'll definitely prefer a hotel away from the hustle, bustle, noise and crowds to relax after a tiring day in this magnificent jewel of a City. We believe that good service should be rewarded by recommendation. Great hotel, great location, consistently great service and excellent value. The mosquito we encountered in the garden at the hotel in 2007 is still the only bad thing we can say about this hotel.

We would not hesitate to book this hotel again .Thanks to all the staff who were superb also the best Aperol Spritz going .

We got to ohr room and were greeted by a lovely bottle of press co and some macrons for my parters birthday. Room was lovely and big. Lovely garden view. Plenty of breakfast items. Its a good 20 minute walk from main Venice attractions, but its quiet and lovely. Local shop x2 cappuccinos near by €3.60 to sit in. You can quadruple this price in St Marks square. A water taxi bus service just outside the hotel. We ate near the hotel in a place called Trattoira del Tosi. More local restaurant, but the food was amazing. Staff do not speak much but they let you get on eith your holiday, which we prefer. Overall very good for us. Quiet, warm, lovely rooms. Breakfast lady was lovely too. If you want quiet and do not mind a good walk in to mai stream Venice, stay here. We loved it. Would go back anytime. Had a trip to Murano Burano islands. Its lovely. Thank you, a nice few days in Venice for us

- 850lend (2/5): Disappointing - Very upsetting to me that they were not able to waive a €250 fee for needing to leave early on account of a flight change. Very sad as I told them upon check in but there was no manager on premise to help. I spoke to corporate and even they tried but the local manager was adamant not to help. Upsetting as this room normally rents for $150 per night as it isn’t a very nice hotel but they felt obligated to gouge me.

Or, à notre arrivée, nos amis ont eu une suite avec canapé et grand lit, tandis que nous avons eu une chambre plus petite avec un lit de 140 cm, ce qui ne correspondait pas à la réservation. Nous avons découvert au moment du check-out qu’il y avait eu une erreur à l’accueil : les cartes-clés avaient été inversées par le personnel d'hôtel et la suite était enregistrée à notre nom. Cette erreur, non détectée pendant le séjour, a malheureusement gâché un événement important pour nous. C’est très décevant compte tenu du prix payé et de l’occasion.

As a Diamond IHG Member we were very well looked after here. Maria especially at breakfast deserves a special mention. So kind caring, warm and always bringing our perfect Cappuccino's. Such a delight. Upon arrival in my room I heard some commotion outside so with my background in Lifeguard/Security I rushed down to save whoever was in trouble, I mentioned to Reception I am going out I am not here for TV! I got outside and walked quickly towards all the noise to save the day, when I arrived at the noise I noticed it was actually the local Marine Training Base (Naval base) with PT trainers shouting at recruits training hard. I was relieved that I did not have to save someone but amazed that the noise could travel that far to my double glazed window. I returned after a lovely walk around the local park! So beautiful. In fact I saw no trouble during my stay at all not even pick pockets. Just trades people trying to sell their goods making a living. I felt very safe. In the end I got used to the wake up sounds 'Reveille' from the military base and it was fun to hear the national anthem played every Sunday. But to be honest the noise was just on the weekend and even then it passed quickly. The suite was lovely and warm during the cold winter spell and rain. But we were offered an umbrella from the Hotel which we used, so we cannot compliment all the team enough. The hotel went beyond the call of duty to ensure our stay went well - and this is a credit to the Hotels GM. From the friendly housekeeping service to the wonderful breakfast to the huge comfortable bed (a very relaxing mattress so much better than Accor's mattress I actually wake up with no back ache wonderful). The breakfast is the best thing here, I could almost stay all day just eating the breakfast. The TV was wonderful so huge but of course I did not come here for TV so I enjoyed all of Venice and it's delights (whilst trying not to be a normal tourist seeking out local delights that normal tourists do not see and not taking a photo of every single thing I see!). On first impression (I notice other reviews some guests are a bit taken back by the hotel almost too posh for them) you can actually get past the posh stage and realise you can actually relax here, all the staff are kind, you do not have to wear your perfect designer gear everyday especially when it is raining like cats and dogs everyday., It was even wonderful to hear staff having friendly both with each other and with the guests. Even the new training young staff are enjoying their time at breakfast and getting used to guests (and not being shocked at seeing guests - do not be worried we do not bite!) A lovely stay, and great to see the Hotel catering for our every need and tailoring our experience - this is something you would expect at the Savoy or The Ritz. The hotel is perfectly located if you want to be just outside of the busy area. There is dining in the evening in the Hotel or a Pizza/Pasta restaurant very local which is also pleasant. I recommend booking a large suite inside the main hotel in the winter, the garden rooms must be lovely in the Summer. A special thank you to the GM - we can see that you have excellent hospitality experience. 5 Stars

Die Taubenplage humorvoll mit "Wasser-Revolver" teilweise gelöst. Einzig der Einstieg in die Badewanne/Dusche war sehr knapp und eng bemessen.

Staff blamed booking.com for supplying incorrect information. Eventually we were allocated the correct room. When we dined in the restaurant there was a mix up with our bill and an additional dish was added that we didn’t have. When we tried to resolve this staff weren’t particularly helpful and they were arguing in front of us. This was very awkward and it took some time to resolve. The garden view room had very little space at the side of the bed particularly at the window side.

- WHC3 (10/5): Best Hotel of 7 - We have stayed at seven 4 and 5* hotels in Italy in past year in tourist focused cities. To include Murano Hyatt. Indigo beats them all. Massive, clean, eclectic room. Savor restaurant that has cool vibe...we had desserts and hot chocolate before turning in. We wish we ate dinner here instead of place by Rialto. Vaparetto is a 3.minute walk. Water taxi is a 2 minute walk. St Marks square a 25 minute walk along the canal. Even cooler, Venice football team stadium is across the canal so next time will schedule a visit at same time as home game. Great stay.

- jimmywS5906LX (2/5): A Holiday Masterclass in How NOT to Do Hospitality... - Staying at Hotel Indigo Sant’Elena over the Christmas holiday has been, from start to finish, a slow-moving disaster that somehow kept finding new and creative ways to get worse. We travel often and internationally and are fully aware that service styles differ across countries. We were not expecting to be wined, dined, or treated like royalty. What we were expecting was basic acknowledgment and a functional understanding of hospitality. That expectation, it turns out, was wildly optimistic. The tone was set the moment we walked through the door. No greeting. No “hello.” No “welcome.” Just a blank stare. I actually had to ask whether the desk was for the restaurant or hotel check-in. The response was simply: “Yeah.” No clarification. No eye contact. No effort. Check-in itself did not improve. Our passports wouldn’t scan properly, which was somehow framed as a personal failing on our part. Even though my IHG membership was recognized and a welcome amenity was offered, the overall sentiment was unmistakable: you’re here now — good luck with that. Cold. Dismissive. And a perfect preview of what was to come. That evening, we made the mistake of dining at the hotel’s restaurant, Savor Restaurant & Bar, which immediately set the tone for what would become a masterclass in dysfunction. The bartender was unhelpful and bordering on rude, despite the bar being completely empty. The main server appeared physically present but otherwise incapable of greeting anyone, explaining the menu, or answering basic questions. He simply stood at our table. Sensing what we were in for, we ordered drinks and all of our food at once. Two other tables were seated after us. Both received their drinks a full ten minutes before we did. Our bread arrived — still no drinks. When I finally asked for them again, the reaction suggested I had requested classified government documents rather than beverages we had already ordered. When the food finally arrived, it somehow managed to match the service — disappointing, tepid, and lifeless. The pasta was cold and gloppy. The burger was served directly on a tray lined with brown paper that stubbornly stuck to the bun and toppings, so I got the unexpected pleasure of ingesting paper along with an already mediocre burger — which was such a joy! It was as though they took everything that could go wrong and thoughtfully put it on one plate for our amusement. At that point, I didn’t bother complaining. The chaos unfolding around us was entertainment enough — not to mention, I imagine it would not have phased any of the lackluster personnel existing in that space. The bartender forced guests to move from the completely empty bar area to a dining table if they wanted food — fine — except the table was barely clean, the drinks were dropped off without a word, and there were no chairs. The guests had to pull their own chairs up. Meanwhile, several long tables sat visibly dirty for an absurd amount of time, being cleaned at a pace that could only be described as sloth-like. Staff spent far more time standing around and talking to one another — what I can only imagine was their collective disgust at being asked about food and drinks — than they did doing their actual jobs. Asking for the bill was the final hurdle. Once again, the response implied we were asking for a deeply personal favor rather than something fundamental to operating a restaurant, so that we could quite literally just get the hell out of there. The following morning confirmed that none of this was a fluke. We ordered beverages and pastries near the end of breakfast service and once again had to ask for our drinks after waiting — despite staff standing around doing absolutely nothing. Even purchasing bottled water to take to our room required firmness, as though this was an unprecedented and frankly suspicious request. At this point, we already absolutely hated it here. On 12/25, things escalated from passive incompetence into active hostility. We walked past the front desk and were ignored entirely. It was raining, so we returned to grab umbrellas and decided to adjust our pre-arranged hotel transfer to leave earlier. We explained to the front desk agent, Costanza (same person from check in), that the transfer had been arranged by someone at the hotel — possibly named Christina. She scoffed and said there was no Christina. We clarified that it was set up internally and asked if she could check the reservation for details because we couldn't quite remember the name.... Her response, delivered sharply, was simply: “ROOM?!” After providing the room number, she laughed and said, “Oh. It was CAROLINA who set it up.” and then just looked at us. Nothing more said, nope. At that point, any reasonable person would simply move on. The name was clearly close enough to indicate this was handled internally by the hotel team, or to perhaps make her say, "maybe you mean Carolina, let me check...." - anything other than what she did. Either way, the solution was painfully simple: look at the reservation and proceed. Instead, she chose to be unkind and abrasive. When I asked whether guests were expected to know exact staff names in order to receive assistance — and whether scoffing and laughing was appropriate — she immediately pivoted into full blame-shifting mode. According to her, we misunderstood. We were the problem. She was merely reacting. This is complete nonsense. She knew exactly what we were asking. Everything that followed was an active choice of hers to make it difficult to help us. All we wanted was a simple change to our departure time - and it would have been handled. Period. At that point, both of us became noticeably louder — not because we were wrong, but because we were not about to be gaslit into feeling stupid over a name discrepancy. Other employees began watching. I was not backing down. When we asked for a manager, she flatly stated there was none. After more back-and-forth — and only once it was clear the situation had escalated — a woman and a man emerged from a side area behind the desk. I asked if she was a manager. She said she was Paola, the supervisor. That was the moment I genuinely lost patience. If a guest asks for a manager and is told no, are we expected to intuitively know to ask for a supervisor instead? Is there a hierarchy flowchart we missed? If we don't ask for the proper person in charge then, we don't get helped? I guess so... Things then took a truly bizarre turn. Costanza accused us of taking a photo of her and said we “couldn’t do that.” We did not. We took a photo of the restaurant area. And honestly — why would we want or need a photo of her? As soon as the supervisor appeared, Costanza fled the desk, visibly upset and portraying herself as the victim. If you’ve done nothing wrong, you stay. You explain. You resolve. You don’t storm off. Instead, she went to the back courtyard and began loudly complaining and yelling about us. I could hear her clearly from the street while standing outside to cool off — because yes, I was that angry. Paola listened, and ultimately promised to take care of our request. We do feel bad that Paola had to come into that situation and receive some admonishment, and we appreciate her follow through with the request. The room itself is fine, which somehow makes this all more frustrating. Because with even minimally competent staff, this hotel could be decent. Instead, it feels like a place where guests are tolerated at best and resented at worst. No one here seems happy. And it shows. I want nothing from this hotel. No points. No apology. No follow-up. I’m writing this solely to warn others: lower your expectations dramatically. Expect to feel like every question or request is a burden. Expect eye-rolling, scoffing, and blame-shifting. Expect hospitality to be treated as optional and IF they want to. Expect that you are an inconvenience that is to blame for them being unhappy. If you go in expecting absolutely nothing, you might be pleasantly surprised. We chose the wrong hotel for Venice and will never return. Save yourself the frustration — stay literally anywhere else.
