- Sue (10/5): Great Boutique Hotel - My stay at the Empress Hotel was really good. The staff were so kind, friendly and helpful. They were informative of where to find places and made my stay very relaxing. My bedroom and ensuite were lovely and had everything I could possibly need. The breakfast room was bright and welcoming and the meal was perfect. On my last day there was a huge downpour and I got extremely wet on my way back for my luggage, Although I had checked out at noon, the staff let me use a small cloakroom to change out of my very wet clothes before leaving for the airport and my flight home to New Zealand. I can thoroughly recommend the Empress Hotel and will certainly be staying there again when I return to Vietnam in the New Year.
- Kim (2/5): Never stay at this hotel again - This place is way overpriced for their services and room type. U can get much better place for your money. The staff seems never happy. Why would u be this industry when u can never smile in front of your guest. We r paying them money not like asking for a free stay. And they absolutely not helpful. The breakfast choices are limited. And if u ever give them any negatives comments, they will not happy. I was giving my honest opinion about my check in experience and I got questions by the front desk the next morning as I was walking out. Not with the possitive attitude, more like questioning why I gave them a bad review. Absolute horrible. I will not recommend this place for my family and friends . - Steve (2/5): Don't stat here. Not friendly, rude. - Check in was horrible. They couldn't "find" my expedia reservation. They asked for $300 USD per night as "deposit"! Staff was rude, breakfast is a joke... the hotel's elevator didn't work half the time... there were 3 people at this hotel as guests, i see why. I heard hotel is closing down. they don't use their own check in counter, but a small desk as counter and turns the lights off in hotel. kinda scary.
- Cindy (6/5): Just Ok! - Did not feel good/happy since they tried to ripped off my credit card by charging/putting 2 pending transactions with the amounts of $98 & $94 something for my 5 nights (actually I missed my first flight, and I got delayed/came late, so I lost 1 night. Just stayed there for 4 nights but paid for 5 nights) while I did pay everything up front with hotels.com, so I said that they don't have the right to charge that to my credit card account, and at first they denied saying that they just verified card, but then I showed them the proof/messages from my credit card company to show that they have been charged to my credit card account, and they were like they just wanted to make sure their bill is paid when I checked out. So I showed them the proof that I did pay everything with hotels.com, and they need to get that from hotels.com NOT from my credit card again or else I will make a big deal with them since they have no policy/rule to back up their ridiculous/unreasonable argument/nonsense while I have all the valid info. to show them as the evidence. So they did void these two invalid/so called verifications/transactions then.....LOL

- Steve (6/5): Noisy, construction (since 2011), don't stay here! - Dont stay here! nosiy, construction starts at 8am! or sometimes, 7am! The general manager, doesnt care about customer service nor post the fact the hotel is under loud constructions. Apparently it has been going on for about 2 years. There are other hotels (with better price) and better customer service. My days in HCMC was ruined.

Elevator works sometimes, the General-Manager didn't care when I asked him about the noise and construction. He was rude and told me to leave! This hotel has changed, all of the staff has changed, food is bad, internet is slow. There are other hotels nearby, way cheaper and they know how to treat customers.

New cafe opened on the 1st floor (ground floor) and there's a Family Mart (like Circle K) along with bank about 20 yards from the hotel! Staff are friendly!

- Vo's family (8/5): Fantastic vacation - Not really a good choice, the area is a little too far to the Ben Thanh Market. The area is very quiet, and boring at night, but it is very closed to the supermarket. The staffs and receptionist are very friendly, especially, Kenny who showed us the way how to keep our save. The hotel is under contraction, that's why a little noisy in the morning.

- kris (4/5): what happened to the friendly staff? - After having many times staying at this hotel im sad to see the staffing is taking a turn for the worst. The once friendly staff seems to have vanished. Construction in the building and gunfire outside one night was the high lights of my stay. Dont plan to have an afternoon nap here until the reno is done. Not sure why the price online is so much cheaper then what they quote you at the front desk. Had to go back to my room to book extra 2 days then go back down to the front dest and wait for the online booking to show up in the system.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Empress Hotel HoChiMinh City, October 2012 - Small rooms but clean. When we were there, Oct 22-26 212, the hotel was under renovation so there were hammering noises & dust. Our shower head was not working properly and so water was leaked to the toilet area. The hotel is about 25 mins walk to Ben Thanh market and the center of town. It's an ok hotel but there are better prices for similar thing in the same area. When we checked out we were informed that the cleaning staff couldn't find their laundry bag. It wasn't enough that we told them we had never seen this bag nor know what it looks like, I had to write a note to the hotel's manager that explicitly said this.

Asked if I could go on a certain tour (room wouldn't be available till about noon),they said"yes, they would make the arrangements". They would store my luggage. Got back from the tour about 2:30p. Went on another local tour. They said I could check in later. Checked in about 7:00p. Staff was excellent.

- Julika (8/5): Comfortable hotel - We were satisfied with the hotel, eventhough it was not a large one, but we got a family suite which was really nice and comfortable enough to accomodate 4 of us, 3 adults and 1 child. There were 2 bathrooms and 2 tvs with cable. eventhough the rooms are not so large but we found it good enough for our stay. The receptionists were doing their best, so were other staffs. We also found out that the hotel sold a little less expensive on the city tours than other hotels around. Breakfast was just OK, not too many selection, but we were fine with that, and the waiter was very attentive, he also very kind to my son. Nearby there were family store and a small restaurant that sold great and very inexpensive banh mie (french bread sandwich). Overall, I would recommend others to stay in this hotel.

- Annette (10/5): Very good hotel i Ho Chi Minh City - Empress Hotel in Saigon is a very good choice. We didn´t pay very much at all. The staff was very, very helpful. The rooms were clean and nice. The location is also very good. You have walking distance to many sight, for example Behn Than Market. If I´d go back to Saigon, I´d surely stay at the Empress again.
- CollegeAgeFemaleTraveler (8/5): Friendly and the price is right! - I have stayed in Vietnam on multiple occasions and have found this hotel to be my favorite of the affordable options. The staff was very friendly and easy to locate when we arrived at 2am... They presented us with drink vouchers to the restaurant next door along with our keys. The restaurant was good but the drinks were half of what Americans are used to. Especially the alcoholic ones. It is most likely a cultural thing as it is a belief in Vietnam that drinking during a meal is unhealthy, they drink after they have eaten their fill. After the restaurant we went back to our rooms. The rooms were nice, clean, and had a minibar and tv. The beds were the usual Vietnamese thin dense mattress that is seen all over the city. Not the most comfortable but I will take it instead of chancing bed bugs. We rented 2 rooms. One was perfect. The other smelled of cigarettes... Also, be aware that the walls are a bit thin. I didnt hear anything from my room but you could hear things coming from a room when walking in the halls. We left early the next day but we needed to hit an ATM before heading out. Their buddy offered to drive me to a guarded ATM on his scooter. They were all just very friendly and nice, I probably over tipped them because I was so satisfied with the whole experience. So they probably will like you a lot too. Oh, I almost forgot. They surprised us with a to go breakfast to take to the airport. Security friendly except for the water. Unexpectedly kind.

- Verified traveler (10/5): good hotel for good price - The room was not too big, but nice and clean, the bathroom was also very clean, with a large shower. We booked a room for one night via internet but stayed two nights more since we were very satisfied with the hotel. Moreover we got the room for the same special price like the first night. The breakfast buffet was good, with asian and european food. With a 15 minute walk you can reach for example the Ben Thanh market, Museum of Fine Arts or Reunification Palace. What we liked very much is that the hotel tries to save energy and water - the bed linen or towels will be changed only every 3 days unlike you wish to have it done earlier. Other hotels should do that as well!

- Verified traveler (8/5): Empress Hotel - A fabulous hotel - cheaper to book online than to pay at hotel. Very helpful reception staff. Only a 5 min walk from the main backpacker/tourist street. One negative - I wouldn't recommend booking any of the Happy Tour tours promoted by the hotel. You will pay more than others on the tour, and can book the same tour for much less money at other tour operators. Also the itinerary in the booklet does not all materialise!
- Alex1969 (10/5): Good location, good hotel, good food, friendly staff - The only problem is that the water in the shower is not hot. The internet costs 30c per 10 minutes, but you get 30 minutes coupon after having an 8$ lunch in a restaurant. The restaurant does not have pho, but it has a lot of other things. There are no other decent restaurants in a 5-minutes walking distance but considering that crossing any street in Ho Chi Minh city is a challenge, I do not think that there are any hotels which have these feature.
- ThinkGloballyActVocally (8/5): Comfortable, cozy & quaint - One never quite knows from online descriptions what to expect, but my expectations were exceeded when I arrived for a week's stay at the delightful boutique (just 40 rooms) Empress Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Conveniently located in central District 1 -- with easy walking access to restaurants and tourist sites, I found the room clean and neatly appointed, the check-in cheerful and laundry service good and expedient. I'll stay there again and I would recommend the Empress without reservation -- but even better WITH reservations.
- Regi (6/5): Good price. Poorly lit rooms. Gossiping idle staff - Poorly designed bathrooms and faucets causes flooding. Tiny rooms with VERY little light. Front desk staff OK. Good location. Lazy cleaning and restaurant staff, like everywhere in VN. Poor restaurant menu-expensive. Bell boys very helpful. Breakfast so so. Clean beds. Poor English speaking ability, as everywhere in VN. Not bad for the price. Most hotels in that price-range are MUCH worst. I have stayed in many others in Saigon so I know. Overall, I would recommend it over similar priced, and even a bit higher priced Saigon hotels. Trust me, they can be far far worst...except if you can afford a 4 star or 5 star hotel, which would cost you an arm and a leg, for extra features or conveniences that you may not need. If you are REALLY on a tight budget, go to Pham Ngo Lao Street, or Bui Vien Street...lots of small, cheap, but very good hotels with wi fi for under US$20 per night. Everything you will ever need can be found in the area..restaurants..beauty salons..taxis...barber shops...out door markets...oh!..this location is an 8 minute walk from the Empress Hotel.

The room was a little small but was very comfortable and the air conditioning was really quiet. Well located to War Museum, water puppet theatre, markets and shops, and a big row of restaurants that have both Vietnamese and western foods (for the occasions when you get a bit sick of rice). Note: Highlands Coffee is the only place where we found good quality coffee and hot chocolates.

The main thing for me is cleanliness and I had no problems here. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other people. The location may not be the best, but you can easily walk around the district from here and the cabs are very cheap. If you want to stay somewhere at reasonable price, this hotel won't let you down.

- OSCAR (8/5): We'll recommend this hotel and will come back if given the chance. - The junior suite we stayed for 8 nights was cleaned everyday, with the bed linens changed, as well as the towels and toiletries replenished regularly. They even provided us with the universal power point. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful especially the doorman, who suggested to us where to go to eat upon our late night arrival at the hotel from the airport. The daily breakfast was satisfactory, typically Vietnamese style. However, it could be improved by offering other dishes which would cater to other nationalities. We are not complaining as we enjoyed the food but we feel it needs variety. Overall, we can rate Empress Hotel Ho Chi Minh a 4 out of 5.
- Arnaldo (8/5): Good location - The hotel is extremely good because of the location. Everything is very near since it is at district one. Everything is at walking distance (Less than 30 minutes). The neighbourhood is OK, no so nice but all Vietnam is like that. The maintenance of the room is acceptable for the price. Good relation money-quality.
- Paul (8/5): In general I enjoyed my stay at - In general I enjoyed my stay at the Empress Hotel. The room was comfortable, the staff very pleasant and helpful. The attached restaurant is reasonable - breakfasts are best eaten early if you want your hot foods hot. Although the staff are willing to bring hot water to rooms, I thought the lack of a kettle or facilities to make tea or coffee in the rooms was a surprising and inconvenient omission. Visiting guests are required to produce ID before entering rooms. I thought this was a bit much, but it is possibly the practice in many hotels thoughout Vietnam.
- Andre (8/5): This hotel was quite pleasant - This hotel was quite pleasant to stay in but the location on the street Bui Thi Xuan was eye opening for the traveller unaccustomed to being a pedestrian in Ho Chi Minh City and the issues with being a pedestrian. The close proximity to Tao Dan Park was a big plus. The room had a bar fridge, so you could keep a little fruit and soy milk or whatever else needed. It would have been nice if the room had a kettle and cups for tea or coffee. I would recommend this hotel to those of modest needs and basic requirements. I felt the service of the Bell Captains and Kitchen and Front Desk staff was exceptional. Wireless internet is freely available here.
- Verified traveler (4/5): NOT SO Impressed Hotel!! - The whole hotel has a musty smell about it. When we checked in, the room we were given had a door adjoining another room. The door didn't lock and the room had no safety deposit box. They moved us to another room which was next to the fire exit and staff couldn't open it. Then we went to another room which was located in back corridoor up and around two flights of stairs down the hallway which was tiny and stank a stale smell. The doorman was apologetic. We would not choose to stay there again.
- Damian (10/5): Empress Hotel was Golden to us - An absolutely stunning hotel and restaurant at a great location and a great price. Close to all sites and pubs/nightclubs in District 1. No more than 50000 VND cab rides to all these places (Le Pub, Go2Bar and Apocalypse). A word of advice is dont walk anywhere after dark and keepyour hands in your pockets. Thieves thrive on tourists in HCM city.
- Clare (8/5): Great cheap and cheerful clean - Great cheap and cheerful clean place with great staff. Breakfast is best avoided but their is plenty of stuff around the hotel to keep you happy. We had a great time.
- BEE (10/5): located at one end of the main - located at one end of the main shopping road, Le Loy, leading to Benh thanh market which is about 20 mins walk. Breakfast was good, the waitress will refill fresh food each time guests walk in. Reception staff and bell boys are helpful . Rooms are very clean but shower's water spray are weak .
- petra (10/5): good value for money, friendly staff - The staff were super nice and helpful. Though it's quite an old building, it is well-maintained and room was crystal clean. Breakfast was not that great, but ok. Very good location, close to the lively nightlife, but still quiet.
- Tian (6/5): old hotel, everything is old - This is an old hotel, but every thing is old, lift is old, A/C is old, and maintenance not good, but breakfast is not bad.
- Anthony (8/5): This Hotel was clean and efficient - This Hotel was clean and efficient with friendly staff. The location was within medium walking distance of the city centre and backpacking area but was not as centrally located as some other hotels. Experience proved it to be a little overpriced compared to other options in the backpacking area.

- Gabriel (10/5): I would give 150% If there was - I would give 150% If there was rating over 100%. Very nice and clean hotel. Very frindly staff with very good english. Rooms clean and tidy. 4th and 5th floors for NO Smoking guest. That cant find any where else. Sent some questions and request by e-mail 3 times and got answer allmost immediatly. The reception are very happy to assist you if you want to book a tour. Location very good. 4 minutes walk you can find many nice restuarants. Internet cafe just few meters a way. The only thing i didnt like was that the hotel restaurant was outside the hotel and you have to go 4-5 meter to it, its not nice walk in rain. All in All was very pleased to stay there and will be 1st choice in future.
