Guest Reviews
- Peter (6/5): Nice spot - and we found a great traditional restaurant nearby - It has a great view- nice roof terraces and a pleasant pool Some of the restaurant staff displayed a rather grand attitude - the restaurant served more or less nouvelle cuisine- small portions that don’t really suit people with hearty appetites! We had to beg for some extra potatoes! Subsequently though we found a traditional restaurant that wanted to feed us at almost a third of the cost- so a good result!

- 118ava (6/5): Terrible restaurant - Beautiful and interesting building but the restaurant is a very real problem at this hotel. On our first day, we ordered lunch and were kept waiting for 45 minutes for a very small portion of pasta which was nothing much to write home about despite the long wait and high price. We were not greeted by the staff, and had to ask for bread which was dry. Service at breakfast is even worse. The hotel hasn’t learned from previous complaints. Weak and cold instant coffee is on offer from an urn. It may seem trivial but this did spoil our time at the hotel. I did complain a couple of times. The management comes across as being far too parsimonious and in terms of the catering really should pull up its socks.
Staff at reception, cleaners, porters all very helpful and kind.
- Ruslan (10/5): -
- robert (10/5): good hotel if need to go to naples to fly home - great views.

- globaltraveller200 (8/5): Spectacular view, unique ambience, peripheral location, basic room - We enjoyed a return visit to San Francesco al Monte (one adult and two youngsters for four nights) but less so than previously.
The hillside location offers a spectacular view E across Naples to Vesuvius, and the immediate area is quiet and detached from the noisy and congested city - but it has no restaurants and is not within walking distance of most of Naples’ visitor attractions. ‘Downtown’ is best accessed through nearby funiculars or by taxi.
The building is an atmospheric – and, understandably, somewhat ascetic - conversion of a 15th century monastery. Our ‘junior suite’ had one queen-sized double bed and a sofa bed, both in the same room – not what ‘suite’ normally means. The room and bathroom were adequately equipped but they were not a luxury experience – apart from the view, a base rather than a destination. The shower over bath was slippery and awkward to access, with no safety mat.
The rooftop pool, garden and outdoor restaurant are seasonal and were not yet open.
Breakfast was an adequate if unexciting buffet. The dinner menu and the food were good but not child-friendly.
Wi-Fi was simple to use. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and professional.
Overall 4/5. Recommended to those seeking a unique and comfortable experience rather than a luxury one.
Tip – if travelling by train from/to Rome, use the Centrale station rather than the new and remote Afragola.
- globaltraveller9999 (8/5): Good hotel to explore Naples - Good location to explore Naples (and Capri, Pompeji and Amalfi). Rooms very clean. Very friendly staff. A little bit noisy because of the street in front. Biggest draw back is the breakfast which was by far the weakest we had anywhere in Italy

- peter (8/5): Hotel with a view, out of the Jungle.. - View across Naples to Mt Vesuvious are amazing. The heritage of this old convent is facinating, level 3 is like a museum. NA

- Norma (8/5): Toller Blick und Hotel mit Vergangenheit - Tolles und sehr besonderes Hotel mit Flair. Fantastische Aussicht.
- Liridona (10/5): - Helt fantastastisk opphold!

- mereiller2025 (10/5): The Good, The great and The Gorgeous - Honestly, what can I say? This place is a literal wonder of Naples. The views are so beautiful they’ll make you forget you just walked up 400 hills to get here. The rooms are stunning, and the staff? Absolute legends. Everyone had a smile on their face—which, in hindsight, might have been because of what they saw through my bathroom window. They were incredibly accommodating, and the restaurant food was so top-notch I’m still dreaming about the desserts especially The Macarons.
The "Snag" (Or: The Unintentional Talent Show)
There was only one tiny, naked—I mean, minor—issue. Our bathroom lacked the traditional amenities known as "blinds" or "shutters."
Now, look:
If you’re an exhibitionist: Like myself and my partner, you’ll have a five-star stay! 10/10, would recommend for anyone looking to provide the locals with some free dinner theater.
If you’re shy: If you aren’t keen on showing the neighborhood your "peek-a-boo" areas while you floss, this might not be the room for you.
Pro Tip: If you see a crowd gathering in the street below with binoculars, they aren't looking at the sunset. They're looking at your skincare routine.
Loved the stay, loved the service, and apparently, the city of Naples now loves my left hip. 10/10—will bring a cape next time.

- Onufran (10/5): This is the best place to see a city like on your hand - The view is very nice Was hot in the room (we try to turn on air conditioning, but without success, maybe it was our fault)

- stephaniecS6716JD (10/5): Excellent unique hotel with nice restaurant & great views - Husband and I are currently staying at this unique hotel. It sits above the main part of the city with beautiful views of the Bay of Naples. Pleasant staff and lovely property with something interesting to see around every corner.
Very clean, comfortable beds with good quality linens. Rooms have in-room hair dryers and robes, shampoo/conditioner/body wash etc. Felt safe within the hotel.
We loved the heavy brass keys to open the doors, art throughout, and had fun exploring the historic and newer parts of the building.
Highly recommend dinner at the excellent restaurant. Attentive service, beautiful presentation (try the dessert cream puff!), and fantastic views. Especially enjoyed the steak with gorgonzola.
Learn from our mistake and don’t walk from the train station! It’s not long in minutes but it’s straight up uneven steps through alleys in a sketchy part of town. Get a taxi/uber and thank me later ;-).
Highly recommend. Stay here, you will be glad you did!

- AndrewMcHugh (10/5): Amazing view and great service. - Great Experience. Great Hotel. Great Service. The hotel is situated in an old monastery overlooking the Bay of Naples. Our room had a fantastic view. The bed was comfortable. The bath room was very good with a good shower. The staff were helpful and friendly without being intrusive. Initially we were concerned that the hotel was a little remote. This is not the case the funicular railway is a short walk from the hotel with regular service down to Toledo and up to Vomero. It is also possible to walk to Toledo via a series of steps in about 10 to 15 minutes.
I was stupid enough to leave behind a shirt and a pair of trousers hanging in the wardrobe. We contacted the hotel to see if they had found them. They had. We arranged to pick them up when we returned to Naples from Sicily. When we arrived at the hotel to pick them up, we found my shirt and trousers freshly laundered and ironed in a plastic bag waiting for us to collect. I cannot speak too highly of this hotel and its staff. We have spent one month travelling around southern Italy and Sicily. We have stayed in several hotels including some that consider themselves rather grand. The best hotel we have stayed in, by far, is San Francisco. If, and when, we returned to Naples, we will definitely make a point of basing ourselves at San Francesco.. thank you to the staff.
- Rossella (9/5): Vedi Napoli e puoi muori .
- Rachel (10/5): Perfect - Location is great you can walk down to the buzzing areas and the view from the property is amazing More cups available at breakfast
- Stephen P (8/5): If you like interesting, historic hotels and art, this is the place for you. - The wonderful and varied art collection throughout the many interesting halls, corridors and unexpected locations throughout the very old former convent/monastery. The views from the dining patio and the from the beautiful and spacious gardens overlooking the city were photogenic. It's a lovely place to loll away a leisurely day without the hubbub of the very busy, noisy, and traffic of a hectic city. Our initial greeting at 9am was less than welcoming or accommodating. We dined one evening at the hotel restaurant and that was more than enough. The food was mostly very disappointing. Four of us had different meals, ranging from acceptable to almost inedible. They need a new chef. The breakfast was satisfactory and varied enough. The whirlpool off of the pool area was empty and inoperative and very dirty. It made using the shower there unpleasant.
- Daniel (8/5): nettes altes Kloster - etwas in die Jahre gekommen - Aussucht top ueber die Stadt Fruehstueck,

- Stephen P (8/5): Lovely old building with art just about everywhere. Spectacular location. Not very friendly waiters - The outdoor dining facilities and the pool/lounge area are spectacular. The food was unexceptional. The whirlpool aside the pool was out of commission - and dirty. Our initial encounter with reception at approximately 9am was less than welcoming.
- Dawn (10/5): Wonderful, we would love to return again. - Wonderful courtesy and kindness from staff, beautiful hotel with fascinating history. Service and food at resturant coupled with outstanding view was excellent. Nothing!
- Kristopher (10/5): -
- Ariba (9/5): -
- Peter (10/5): A very comfortable stay in a lovely setting with very friendly staff. - The building itself is fascinating, having original monastery foundations. The hotel was spacious and the view from the breakfast area is spectacular - a panoramic view over Naples harbour. The staff were very kind an dattentive. Coffee/tea making facilities in the room would have been good.
- Paula (9/5): 💯 recommend for a romantic couple retreat - Hotel is in a superb location with breathtaking views of the bay. Staff are very accommodating and the dinner and lunch was great Service in the restaurant was very hit and miss depending on the staff. We dined two nights and very good first night not great second night..

- Eeva (8/5): -
- Robert (1/5): Pictures don't reflect reality - Pictures don't reflect reality and it's unable to get anything close to the standard that they advertise on the pictures.
Bathroom was dirty and shower had low pressure.
They advertised a TV but gave us a monitor in a room which anyway was pointless as there was no way to actually watch anything due to it being behind a cabinet door that closed on their own.
Brekfast is a joke we had baking paper in a cake other than that all you can expect is bread with a slice of cheese and one kind of ham and some ceral out all of that only bread was good.
There was no complimentary water in room a bottle in minibar costs 3 euro. They also try to scare you with a unlawful rule that you cannot bring any food or water into the hotel.
- Bernard (10/5): Uitstekende kamer met geweldig uitzicht en zeer vriendelijk personeel - Het fantastische uitzicht over Napels
- Karin (6/5): Okay - Interesting location No complementary water in the room; breakfast and dining room often didn’t have clean silverware and table sets. A true downcast.
- Amir (10/5): comfortable stay with a great location, beautiful views, and friendly staff - The location was excellent, and the morning breakfast came with a stunning panoramic view over the city of Naples. The room was clean and well maintained. the staff were attentive, friendly, and very welcoming, which made the stay enjoyable overall. the shower pressure could be improved.
- Elizabeth Vasquez Guedes (10/5): - De tudo. Vista deslumbrante, quartos ótimos. Restaurante espetacular. Só o box de banho pequeno
- Mattia (10/5): Perfect stay - Great location; friendly staff and very clean. The building is amazing and very fascinating. The view from the rooms and restaurant is superb All good
- c. VINZIA (9/5): Modern hotel with personality in an old Monastery - Great location in an old monastic complex overlooking the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius but only meters away from the amazing alleys of "Quartieri Spagnoli" and Via Toledo. Room with amazing views of Naples and great breakfast. Well kept hotel with a lot of pensonality and modern washrooms and very helpful staff. Everything was great. On the day of our arrival we just made the mistake of trying to get to the hotel on foot with carry on luggage from the city center...a lot of steps, confusing alleys and steep ramps. Later on we realized that there is a cable car from Via Toledo that stops just meters away from the hotel.
