When we came in I found a dark smear on the toilet seat which I was anle to clean off myself. I told the front desk and they sent someone to clean it but then I had already cleaned it. Made me wonder how well they prepared the room. A clean toilet is an absolute must.

Yes, there is "parking on site," WHICH IS $45 BUCKS A NIGHT!!! Booking.com MUST CHANGE THAT POLICY and start forcing hotels to LIST THEIR PARKING FEES ON THE DESCRIPTION!!!!

Sarena (9/5): Lovely Stay in LA - Loved the spacious room, king bed, walk in rain shower, lovely public areas. The location - across from the Grove outdoor mall and the farmers market - can’t be beat. Very walkable to good cafes, restaurants, Hollywood improv. Easy to get around by bus too, which we did a few times. Pro tip: ask for a coffee maker to be delivered to your room! Can’t think of anything not to like!

CaitlynsGrampa (8/5): Chocolate delivered each evening with a smile. - I stayed for 7 nights whilst visiting LA. A perfect location across from the Famers Market, The Grove and 3 minutes down the road to Trader Joes. The is valet parking onsite. My room was refurbished with a handy air conditioning unit. The unit was a little noisy in the night. The room is serviced daily and was very clean. My request for a kettle was met without issue. All staff I had contact with were friendly and helpful. I was disappointed that the onsite bar / restaurant was closed for 2 weeks. The elevator was handy and worked at all times. I did not access the onsite pool, but children staying in the hotel made use of it. My king sized bed was firm and comfortable, but watch your legs on the corners, I am now sporting a large bruise ! The shower is not the greatest water pressure and the floor was a little slippery at times. I felt this hotel is a good location for a stay in LA, despite being about 10 mins from Hollywood centre, I felt comfortable, safe and secure. There is local bus service stops 1 min from the door.

The day I checked in the room next to mine was playing loud music and kind of having a party. The hotel didn’t seem to bother but they changed my room.

Eduardo (2/5): - We originally booked the room for two nights because we were arriving to LA via Australia arriving at 7am, so as to assure that the room would be available upon arrival. We called the hotel 36 hours prior to arrival to confirm all this. The front desk clerk assured us that we didn’t need to book the night before because there were plenty of rooms and that our room would be ready at 7am no problem, which was nice to hear to not have to pay for an extra night. Alas, we show up at 7am and the front desk clerk working at that time (not the person we spoke to 36 hours prior) tells us that there are not room available early and that our room will not be ready until 3pm. We protest at the thought of waiting (and sleeping) in their semi-open courtyard which was wet and damp from the rain the prior night. The front desk clerk informs us that all those extra rooms were booked and we were out of luck. We then leave the hotel to find alternate accommodations when in three hours they call us to tell us that a room has somehow been procured. Don’t get me wrong, we were grateful for them finding a room but we had already gone through the hassle of finding an alternate place to sleep. It is for the foregoing reason that I am very disappointed in the Short Stories Hotel. Eduardo & Christine A.

John (10/5): Lovely decor, great value and a stellar location with The Grove across the road - Lovely decor with a calm boutique feel. A stellar location with The Grove literally across the road and everything was very clean with comfortable beds and nice linens. Location was a perfect base for exploring LA and it felt safe at all times. The Valet parking felt quite expensive, however it is LA and it was clear when we booked so I can't grizzle too much.

983zeg (4/5): Nice Hotel, Ice-Cold Staff, Hospitality Left the Building. - I stayed at Short Stories for three days, a few days before New Year’s Eve. I’ve been staying at this place since it was called Farmer’s Daughter, back in the early 90s. I was always well treated, and it has always been one of my favorite hotels in Los Angeles because of the atmosphere, the location, and the staff. This time was a disappointment. I have never seen such a cold, dry, unfriendly staff. No eye contact, no smiles, no “good morning” or “good evening” in any situation. They just stand behind the counter with serious faces. I passed through the lobby many times during my stay, at different hours, and the attitude was always the same. I paid close attention to this, morning and night, every day. Management really needs to change the staff policy. Basic courtesy is free. I asked for my room to be cleaned at 9:00 a.m. when I left to get breakfast. I was dryly told that priority was given to rooms checking out. My room was not cleaned until 3:00 p.m. That’s all I have to say. I miss the Farmer’s Daughter. Please do better.

Tracy (5/5): Good location for Farmers Markets, quirky refurbishment of an old hotel/motel. - Great location just opposite the Farmers Markets and it was a nice touch being offered a sparkling water or prosecco on arrival. It was also good to have access to chilled water in the hotel foyer. There were 3 of us staying in a two queen bed room but towels and robes were only provided for 2 people. We had to ask several times before extra towels were provided. Rooms are comfortable but we were in a block of rooms that was across the car park from the main hotel and the noise from the main road was pretty loud. We had a drink at the hotel bar and the staff member at the bar was not at all welcoming.

Very high parking fees not disclosed by booking.com and had to place a $200. Deposit after paying for room not disclosed by Booking.com. Very expensive stay. My car was parked right outside my room, but the valet had my keys, I had to carry all my luggage to the front desk when I could have conveniently put it into my car because the valet needed his tip! Poor guest service.

Courtyard was relaxing and pretty. Room size description was off. It was not 400 Sq Ft. Probably closer to 300. The cost of the room was close to a 4 star hotel. I would return but not more than $250 per night.

Danielle (10/5): My new favourite place to stay in LA because the location is perfect, rooms are big and courtyard has a lovely ambience. - The location was absolutely perfect. So close to the Grove shopping centre, CVS and Erwhon and other supermarkets. Very central location that you can walk to a lot places. The rooms were big. The food at the bar was so incredible and the courtyard was a divine place to sit. The pool was compact, but perfectly functional.

Hanna (8/5): - Aesthetes will be pleased with this hotel. The decor, details, and design are pleasing to the eye. The room itself is small, but still unique. I missed a slightly softer floor near the bed or slippers. The location is top notch. Art and automobile museums, as well as the market, are within easy reach. I really liked that there was the option to leave luggage for a while after check-out. The staff was very hospitable. There's no option to have breakfast; the restaurant opens at 4. There are plenty of places nearby, of course, but if you're tired and on the road and want a snack, you won't find anything in the hotel before 4. This isn't a specific negative for the hotel, just a detail
Ana B C Goncalves (7/5): Beautiful, but that's about it - Beautiful hotel located near The Grove, which has a lot of stores and events, and the Farmer's Market, with great places to eat. The interior design creates a sense of luxury right from the entrance and it keeps getting better inside the rooms. The room is huge and comfortable, with all the amenities you may need. The swimming pool is nicely heated (not scorching, it was just the right temperature). Me and my wife had a relaxing time there. Even though The Grove and The Farmer's market are cool places to visit, that's about it. There's nothing else to do by foot nearby. However, that's pretty much the reality in Los Angeles: you have to get around by car. The hotel has this cool, luxury atmosphere that's not reflected in the services provided. Staff is polite, but cold. I left early to go to the beach and returned at 4 PM. To my surprise, my room hadn't been cleaned. I don't know what time cleaning services are provided, but in other hotels I had the same schedule and always returned to a clean room. Water pressure is not great, and my toilet ended up clogged on the second day (though it was fixed quickly). The swimming pool is nice but small, hidden beneath the hotel walls with little to no sun, and there's no bar. Overall I think this hotel relies on the luxurious interior design to charge what they charge, but there's nothing else to it. It was a nice stay but I wouldn't come back.
Alxandra (8/5): - Nice location, clean, although we find some hail on the towels, friendly staff. It was a bit to loud for us, but it gets better between 11pm and 5 am so we managed to rest.
