We were upgraded to a suite with beautiful balconies -- though the one night of our stay was hardly enough time to enjoy it! Service was very friendly and welcoming. Very comfortable sleep and accommodations.
- Happiness568649 (10/5): Wonderful stay! - We had a wonderful stay and Maison twenty seven. Beautiful, unique hotel that was beautifully decorated. The location is great, removed from the chaos but short walk to the beach and 3rd street/pier easily walkable. The staff was the best part of our stay. Michael helped us with check in and restaurant recommendations and even upgraded us to a bigger space which was really wonderful as we were traveling with a toddler. Gavin went above and beyond, helping us get up and down stairs and elevators with our toddler and providing fans ect for the room. Dine helped with check out and was very kind and helpful. The valet staff was also wonderful. They also had free coffee/homemade cookies/juice! Can’t wait to come back for another stay!

This hotel feels like a cosy home away from home. Living room is charming and everything feels like an old world chic. Looking forward to be coming back!
- A5022QKjonr (10/5): Found my new favorite hotel in Santa Monica - I go down to Los Angeles every month for work, and i've been trying all of the nicer hotels in the area, and this one is my favorite. The minute you get to the property, you are met with peace and tranquility. The central area is so inviting, and there is a front area and back area to sit quietly and read or eat. It's the Chateau Marmont of the westside. Entire place is clean, rooms are inviting and have character. Looking forward to getting to know the staff more on return trips, all of them were wonderful.

Front staff were hit and miss in terms of how much they wanted to help, didn’t go out of their way to help with anything. Michael, who checked us in when we arrived late was friendly. Neri was lovely woman, personable. The place has changed from when we stayed and it was PaliHouse owned. It is still a beautiful property but lacks the precious warmth.

Rayan especially dealt with my annoying needs to change my reservation, twice, on my week long stay. He found ways to help me that I hadn't asked for. - telsahy (8/5): Great hotel, even greater staff - We stayed at Palihouse Santa Monica for a little over two months while my father was in town for surgery, and the experience was shaped in large part by the exceptional staff. Ryan, Gavin, and Dalia were consistently attentive, thoughtful, and incredibly helpful with our many needs over an extended stay, which made a challenging period much easier. The property itself is an older building and doesn’t offer the full range of services you might expect at this price point (for example, there’s no room service). That said, it’s beautifully decorated and well maintained, and the staff are highly professional and genuinely caring. Their attentiveness and competence more than made up for the lack of traditional hotel amenities, and ultimately made our stay a very positive one.

- CarrieSteilen (10/5): Feast for your eyes - If you care about beautiful things, gorgeous architecture, lush Gardens, The Pali House is for you! As you walk into this perfectly preserved time capsule you feel like a 1920s movie star. The craftsmanship on the ceiling alone, the woodwork and murals make you pine for the lost art of woodworkers. The place just has great vibes. It’s so perfectly located. You could walk anywhere in Santa Monica, but there are bikes to borrow as well. The front desk staff is very helpful and can give you recommendations if you’re new to town. I have been coming here for more than 10 years and it is still has not lost any of its charm. Highly recommend.!

Cons: they don’t do housekeeping everyday, you have to keep bothering them for anything. The pricing for the rooms I found to be deceitful. When I went to book all the websites said 245-265$ per night on the rooms- yet when we got there it was double that. I don’t find anything about the hotel worth that price point other than the location. There is also hardly any amenities for such a high price point. I will not be staying here again or recommending it.

Very tricky if not a bit hazardous getting in and out with dog and bags. I took the attitude that it’s part of the old world charm, and took the stairs as much as possible.

Rayan has been an absolute pleasure to work with as has all the staff. They’ve been accommodating to every request and go out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcomed. We traveled with a baby and toddler and they’ve been helpful moving us into our room and any additional requests we’ve had. The location is perfect for mornings walks and proximity to 3rd street promenade and Santa Monica pier. We will definitely be coming back to visit again and checking out other hotels in the same ownership family. The staff is a huge part of our experience. Thank you!

- 172dorothyy (10/5): It was perfect for our daughters wedding - We just left Palihouse where we used the top floor (both penthouses) over the week as a place for our daughter’s temporary residence whilst the wedding unfolded at a different venue. As her parents it was so lovely to walk across the Mexican tiled floors to knock on her door — being on the same floor in different penthouse units was amazing. Imagine units with a shared roof garden. Penthouse 1 is larger and had the space needed for hair and makeup. Don’t chose this hotel unless you can appreciate the way they have kept the old beauty of LA in tact. Yes, the stair carpeting has taken its beatings and the lighting might be a bit moody for most but we loved it. You will feel like you’re living in the 1800s. You took the train with your family and walked to this beach lodge where you will have your own kitchen and two blocks to the sand. A roaring fire and velvet couches are waiting for you inside the front door. Now if only they’d paint the walls white those dark beams and tile floor would sing and be a bit lighter. If you can get a king studio you’ll have a kitchen. Brides should all rent both penthouses to keep parents with their daughters during this special time! We used the carendolet house for the wedding and shore hotel as an extra choice for those guests wanting to be right at the beach.

- Dream25976414970 (2/5): Palihouse Santa Monica is an expensive hostel, at best. Pro-tip: don't bother. - Oh boy, this place is a... DUMP! Having stayed at their newer property in WeHo (and loved it!), I was excited to stay at the Santa Monica hotel. Um, that was short lived. In short, its dark, it's old, its filthy, there are ZERO services - that includes any food and drink after 1pm (even the cookies were gone, cleared away, by 8pm - and the staff are nonchalant to say the least. It's pretty amazing to charge around $400 a night, and to return after a long day to find that my room was not made up. I called front desk to ask why, and, surprise surprise, buried in the check-in materials is the detail that you have to request housekeeping. Don't be fooled that this is a hotel and its a given. NOTHING is a given in this place. Palihouse Santa Monica is a gloried hostel, if indeed novelty wallpaper and a bit of taxidermy elevates it so... the bathrooms are also rank. Old and rank. If you like sticky shower curtains, this place will be your jam. Pro-tip: don't bother. Stay at the Hampton Inn up the street. What it lacks in wallpaper and taxidermy, it'll make-up for in actual hotel offerings.

Valet mit 60 Dollars pro Nacht überrissen teuer. Parkhaus eine Strasse weiter kostet 10, Auto kann ein paar Blocks weiter an der Strasse parkiert werden.

Wir sind vorher gefragt worden, ob wir Zimmerreinigung wünschen und hatten gesagt, dass wir zumindest gern neue Handtücher hätten am Tag. Das hat leider gar nicht geklappt, sondern nur auf tägliche Nachfrage.

Carpets are horrendous old smelly haven’t been changed since the 1950’s. Windows (single pane of course) don’t close or open. Sink drain was plugged. Room carpet same horrible condition as hallway. Bathtub peeling. Other than a wallpaper on one of the bedroom walls and some paint this place hasn’t seen any updates for 70 years. If you showed me this place and I didn’t know it was Palihouse I would think it was a homeless shelter. No joke, that bad. We’ve stayed at Palihouse Santa Barbara and in Carmel. How this is possible to be part of the same brand is beyond. Shameful to be peddling such a property as boutique accommodation. Truly disgusting I can’t wait to leave!

- julietQ4623HO (10/5): Old Hollywood glamour meets high-end homey feeling. - The Palihouse Santa Monica is perfectly located steps from Ocean Avenue where you can walk along Palisades Park, look over the Pacific Ocean and watch perfect sunsets. The location of the hotel is situated in an ideal spot in Santa Monica because it's only a short walk to the many great restaurants and entertainment places like Santa Monica Pier, 3rd Street Promenade and Montana Avenue, but it's also slightly tucked away in a neighborhood-like part of the area. You can really feel like a local when you stay there. The front courtyard, as you make your way to the front door, feels like you are stepping into a European villa. The classic style of the hotel building makes you feel like you're about to experience something special--which you are. The grounds are perfectly manicured with gorgeous flowers and plants, birds chirping, some tables and chairs with restaurant service available and a bocce ball court. It's a perfect place for sitting and enjoying the perfect Southern California weather. The lobby is more of a classy, community living room--warm and welcoming inviting you in with very chic/funky decor. Leather couches, long tables, velvet booths, cozy chairs, coffee bar, a fire going in the fireplace at all times, nice music, and at a certain hour every day, freshly baked cookies, lemonade, non-alcoholic sparkling wine and candy is set out in a beautiful display for guests to enjoy. The rooms are well-appointed, cozy and usually have a nice sitting area, lots of space. Most have a kitchenette stocked with snacks, drinks and even a few cooking essentials for some simple cooking. My family and I stayed (lived) in Palihouse for about 2 and half months. As a result of the Palisades fire, we needed a place to stay after we evacuated our home/community, and then we needed an extended stay while we had our home remediation work done to repair smoke and soot damage. We decided that Palihouse was the place for us in this situation because the staff and the setting was so hospitable and kind to us during a difficult time for our family. We are a family of 5 plus a large Golden Retriever. The hotel made an exception to their "under 40 lbs" rule for animals because of the circumstances which is just one of the many ways the Palihouse accommodated our family. We were not the only evacuees staying there during that time. The hotel was full of Palisades residents (with dogs). Many of the guests, unlike us, were dealing with the total loss of their homes and the steps forward. Palihouse was a soft landing in a very difficult time for many families. Speaking of the staff: Top Notch. The full time valet gentlemen: Luis and Andy are a welcoming first introduction to your stay. Friendly, smiling, help with your bags. They were so helpful with our specific situation which often included having to come and go repeatedly throughout the day. They would always communicate with us about our cars and when we needed them next. There was rarely a wait for valet. If we needed to have our car early in the morning, we could tell them the night before and the car would be there waiting in the morning at that time. Gavin, Dine', Ari, Barrett are beyond friendly and accommodating at the front desk. They dealt with details of our stay that are out of the ordinary like paperwork and insurance agents due to our situation. Sashi, the overnight security/front desk person: never saw him without a smile on his face. The staff made fresh coffee for the guests available free of charge in the lobby starting at 6am each morning as a special gesture of support to fire evacuees who were dealing with extreme circumstances. These are very kind individuals who learned our names including our dog's, particular details about us and would attentively ask about how things were going. I can't recommend Palihouse more for your next stay in Santa Monica! Thank you for everything, Palihouse! You guys are truly the best.

Not just the room and *ahem* “resort fee”, but ancillary charges were kinda obscene. $7 water, $6 for a small KitKat. If im paying $14 for coffee, I expect cream. You have to request housekeeping and towels, even on a longer stay. Staffing is pretty lean. It’s a premium price and a mid-level product.

The rooms are delicately decorated, and the country-house atmosphere is felt from the moment you enter, with its garden, reception furniture, books, bar, and fireplace. We had a room with a view of the garden that made us feel, for a moment, as if we lived in that dreamlike place. The location is just a few blocks from the Santa Monica Pier. The area is very quiet, with friendly neighbors, and both the neighborhood and the hotel are extremely pet-friendly. They were very thoughtful with our pet, providing a little bed, food bowls, and treats. We will definitely be coming back very soon. Everything good.

- sureetg2022 (10/5): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Incredible stay during a stressful weekend — thank you, PaliHouse! - I stayed at PaliHouse Santa Monica after a very stressful Airbnb situation left me in urgent need of a last-minute place for myself, my elderly parent, and my special-needs dog. I was overwhelmed and on the verge of a breakdown when I called, and from the very first interaction, the staff went above and beyond. Gavin was the first person I spoke to, and he was amazing—kind, compassionate, and immediately helpful. He welcomed us so warmly when we arrived, and made a tough weekend feel safe and manageable. Everyone else—from valet to front desk to café and housekeeping—was equally friendly and thoughtful. The hotel itself is beautiful and peaceful, but what really made the difference was the people. I felt cared for and comfortable the entire time. I’ve already booked again for a wedding later this year and have recommended it to everyone attending. Huge thanks to Gavin and the whole team!

Unfortunately, I didn’t feel the charm of this hotel – in my opinion, it smells musty, it’s not very clean, old, stuffy, and unfortunately far from cozy. It really needs to be refreshed and aired out, because while you can definitely feel the passage of time there, it’s not in a charming or nostalgic way.

- Alan (10/5): GREAT option in Santa Monica - Best hotel experience in years. The entire staff, front desk, barrista, cleaning crew were kind and friendly. I was upgraded unexpectedly to a King suite for the stay. The room was clean and quiet which are most important to me. No issues with bringing my border collie for the stay, super dog friendly place and easy to walk him around the quiet/beautiful streets in the AM. Personally loved the location, just 1-2 blocks from 3rd street promenade and a couple blocks to the beach. Will definitely be staying here again.

A little peel off in the floor in the bathroom, a stain on the curtain. But really not much as the feeling is so pleasant, who wants to leave?!! Thank you.

- Chase (2/5): Run! Horrible in every way. No evening staff. - Horrible, horrible place. The room and hotel felt like we were in a haunted house. If you want to feel like a poor European renting an apartment in the 1970’s, this is your place! We were appalled at the room for the price. Seemed like a cruel joke. The maroon shag carpet seems original to the building. The shower is so small I could barely fit and the shower curtain was attached to my body the entire time. I wanted a romantic getaway with my wife, but she couldn’t even shower with me. Also, she didn’t even want to use the shower because there is only a rainfall shower. No handheld sprayer or anything so the only way to shower is to get your hair soaked every time. This doesn’t work for most women. The room was an adjoining room we could hear the people and their A/C running in the room next to us. Zero privacy. There was also ZERO service. They have this massive hotel with many rooms and… ONE person working there. He was a security guard and said there is no one else there and he can’t help with anything customer related. What?! I expect a hundred rooms run by one human at Motel 6. I expect a staff and at least one person to help guests at this price point. Bottom line is that this place is super dated to a disgusting degree. There are many hotels in the area that do much better for less or the same price. Try The Huntley. Ocean View Hotel or even the Comfort Inn is far nicer for half the price. Run from this place. My wife and I asked for a refund after an hour there.

Almost the best part of the neighborhood in Santa Monica, is quiet, chill, and a nice walk range to the Santa Monica Pier. The property is a nice and old establishment and has been nicely taken care of. The room was spacious and equipped with a full kitchen. Ordered room service and everything was nice. Quite a boutique staycation experience by the beach. The lobby didn't provide service in the afternoon, which could be a little discouraging as I would love to spend the afternoon in the yard and lobby if there were refreshments provided. But it is not a big deal.
- Cskeen (2/5): Cold, windy night, no heat: why we cut out stay short. - The lobby and gardens here are absolutely beautiful, but our experience in the Grand Studio Residence King was so uncomfortable that we checked out after one night of a planned six-night stay. Temperatures dropped to around 46°F in Santa Monica, with strong, cold winds blowing through the room’s old windows and balcony doors, which don’t seal properly. Although there was a thermostat, the heat didn’t work at all, and when I called the front desk, they confirmed it was nonfunctional. The room felt like it was in the low 50s, and despite a thin comforter plus a light blanket requested from housekeeping, we spent the night shivering. This is clearly an older property that’s only been given cosmetic updates. Without proper insulation, a cold, windy Southern California night is surprisingly miserable—especially when you’re used to truly cold climates where heating and insulation are required by code. To the hotel’s credit, they did provide a 50% discount after some discussion. Unfortunately, even aside from the heating issue, the room had a lot of quirks. The layout felt awkward, the carpeting was dated, the bed wasn’t very comfortable, and the bathroom sink drained slowly. It has a sort of haunted-house charm, with large old closets and an ice-cold bathroom floor—likely a former apartment that’s been turned into a hotel room. It’s a shame, because the common areas are lovely, and we loved our room’s small balcony facing the Santa Monica mountains. This property has real potential, but it needs a full renovation, especially the HVAC, windows and doors, etc. It also isn't ADA compliant if that matters to you. And at rates between $436 and $481 per night, which is what our costs would have been before taxes and fees, I think it’s reasonable to expect at least a reliably heated room.

The toilet clogged twice, the A/C is useless, and they handed me a dusty fan as a solution. Meanwhile, they’re charging $13 for a bottle of water. Management seriously needs to rethink what they’re selling here—because it’s definitely not comfort.

- laurencemU5327JL (2/5): Do Not Go - Couldn’t cancel despite wildfires. Don’t bother. We prepaid and couldn’t cancel because hotel was closed because of wildfire evacuation warning. Be forewarned that you must reserve without prepaying. We had a friend check out the hotel the day before we were expected to check in: the hotel was closed — but we could not find any means to cancel without relinquishing our deposit. Hopefully, MasterCard will right this wrong.
