If you are looking for a clean hotel in a good neighbourhood this is not the one.
- Lewis (6/5): Friendly staff good value - Great location nice hotel it was adequate but all rooms are close to the elevator since it's a very skinny 7 floor building. If you're a light sleeper it's not the place to be like me. You can hear elevator noise starting at 6:00 a.m. and people chatting in a hall.
- RANJU (6/5): Not too good experience - Though Hotel is close to Omonio metro station, the street where hotel is located was too dirty with lot of people around having drugs. There were syringes on the entire stretch and people sitting on the street having having drugs. We were finding it bit difficult to moved around at night as it poses risk. As far as hotel staff is concerned, one staff denied giving us packed breakfast on the day of checkout. We informed him previous day evening but he says we should have informed them previous day morning. Nowhere we have seen such a demand. Previous evening was good enough to pack breakfast next day. About cleanliness, the housekeeping team was not cleaning the carpet everyday and the towels were not changed. One day even the bed was not made. Bathroom was dirty too and no place to hang our clothes. It looked very old property
- Verified traveler (4/5): Unsafe neighbourhood and run down - First time to Athens so didn’t know the neighbourhoods of the city. Turns out the hotel was in a neighbourhood which was not good. There were lots of drug needles all over the street, lots of homeless outside and builds around were vacant and dilapidated. Hotel condition was not very good, really run down and the shower leaked all over the floor through the tiles, shower curtain was dragging on the floor and mouldy. The one thing positive was the staff who were very friendly.
- Extraordinary726751 (4/5): Staff lovely, hotel more like a hostel, area horrendous - The staff at the Marina hotel were lovely and couldn’t do enough to help us but this is not really a hotel. It is more like a budget hostel. Rooms were very small with bedding that did not fit - and rubber under sheets which were uncomfortable and hot. It was very basic in every way. Everything was old and only just working. Breakfast had a lot of choice but nothing was more than the most basic quality. If you are expecting a budget hostel it is fine. Very noisy at night and the walls were so thin you could hear everything. We did not get one good night’s sleep and in fact checked out and paid to go somewhere else for the last night. The worst aspect , however, was the road it was in. Everything you read in other reviews is true- it is horrendous at night. We got a taxi back to the hotel door every night and every taxi driver commented on what a dangerous area it is. There was a security guard on the door through the evening but we did not feel safe walking back there in the late afternoon/ evening. We feel very sorry for the hotel staff - they made a real effort but the area has been abandoned…….. we would not recommend this hotel for anyone!!!

- _V7795YR (8/5): Good hotel with friendly staff - Stayed in this hotel in early March of 2025. After reading all the negative reviews I was getting ready for something terrible … but it wasn’t bad at all! The hotel is a bit old but it’s clean, the room was really tidy and had all useful stuff that you usually need (except for the kettle, that would make it a better stay haha but not that serious). My room didn’t have a view at all, but I wasn’t really hoping for a view so it’s also fine. At night it was a bit loud outside sometimes. The breakfast was also good/tasty (not many varieties but more than enough to choose from). And the best part was the staff - always nice and friendly, will help you with everything! Room service- also very polite and friendly. Also there is security outside which also means a lot. As for the neighborhood - yes it’s bad, but it’s not the hotel’s fault. You do need to be careful for a few moments once you get to the bigger street. And sometimes you see really bad stuff that’s happening there. Made me sad and scared a few times, but nothing bad happened. It’s very close to the city center so you can walk pretty much everywhere, very convenient.
- mcX5351CT (2/5): Terrible! - It says 3 star hotel. But I feel it is a 1 star hotel. The room heater does not work properly. The room was cold. There was no phone in the room to contact reception. No cattle. Not many varieties of Breakfast. No fruites. The most annoying thing was terrible smell. There were constant bad smells coming from the bathroom window, and it came to the room. They don't keep any air freshener in the bathroom either. I stayed 3 star hotels in different countries, and that is by far worse in my experience. The location is not lovely. Looks like scary and abundant slum. Junkies were everywhere staring at me.

In evening we had people injection hard drugs(possibly heroin but I am no drug expert) leaving dirty needles at side of pavement. Other than that the the sightseeing was excellent just the road leading to hotel was bad feature.

- X840JKwayned (8/5): A good budget hotel with fantastic staff!! - The hotel is great value for the money but there is no bar restaurant. Breakfast is very good and was included in our package. Saves about 30 euros a day. Staff make the place as they help you anyway the can!! The immediate area is sketchy but we had no issues. Security Guard outside at nights. Turn right out of the hotel and a block and a half up (literally) and you are on the main drag. Walk to Amonia Square/subway in minutes.

It doesn't feel good to walk through it but we didn't have anyone approach us or have any problems. Appreciate the security guard out front. It's a 15 min walk to main metro. Breakfast had a lot of choices. We stayed here because we were able to get 3 beds in 1 room. The inside of hotel and rooms is clean.

Unfortunately, the area may be disconcerting for some guests as serious homelessness and drug issues are prevalent. At no time did I feel unsafe..locals kept to themselves.

The hotel pictures are not what reality is, they were professionally taken, but reality is, furnishings in the room are 20 years old, there is visible pealing paint in the halways, electric sockets, lights, lamps are old and outdated, shower/tub with a plastic curtain. The included breakfast had two day old bread and black bananas.This is not a 3 star hotel at this writing, I paid twice as much as I should have for what I received. Stay away from this hotel unless a 1 star rating is ok with you.
- janmaypa (10/5): good for overnight stay - Return visit to our go to hotel in Athens Have used the hotel Marina a number of times over the last twenty years overnighting in Athens on our way home from the island of Agistri The hotel has never failed to deliver a clean and comfortable night followed by a god breakfast to set one up for a day around Athens before collecting the bags to head off to the airport The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the metro ands 20 minutes walk to catch the airport bus We enjoyed a good dinner at a very reasonable price at Αλεξανδρινό Κεμπάπ – Μοναστηράκι located on Athinas ten minutes walk away - so good that we went back for lunch
- gdo (8/5): - The day before to check out. They don't cleaning the room. No clean the floor and they didn't do the bed, just move the linen up. It was disapppointed. The rest was good, the service at reception, the breakfast gpod. Good experoence with a little black point.

- M7252NDsarar (2/5): Avoid at all costs!!! Scary af!!! - This was the scariest place i ever visited! The hotel itself is nice and clean, a typical 3 star hotel. Nothing less, nothing more. The staff was super nice and helpful but thats mostly how greek people are ( at least towards tourists ). Now for the "fun" part of this review. The street was FILLED with junkies doing heroin right there on the spot. We arrived around 22:00 and we didnt see them in front of hotel that much but there was a LOT of shady looking people just staring at us when we arrived ( both of us are females ). When we wanted to catch the first metro in 05:30 the next morning ( we only slept one night thank god ) we gave up and called a cab. Once we stepped out of hotel the cab driver told us to get inside the car quickly cuz there is a fight going on few meters behind us ( !!! ). We were just shocked! Some junkies were yelling and punching one another We decided to take a metro on Syntagma since we didnt feel safe going not even 5 minutes to the metro near hotel. Driver told us that area is basically a ghetto and that he drove many tourists from this hotel and they had the same experience and felt scammed. The main isdue is that their page and all other like booking, tripadvisor etc just dont give off the impression that the place is in a really shady part of Athens ( where btw greeks from the city never go ).While driving we saw many drug addicts sitting/laying on the streets and doing heroin. This is not about having "thick skin" its about not going to your vacation to a dirty,unsafe and scary place. Its very depressing and im sure those images will stick with me for a long time. I myself live in a big EU city where i see homeless ppl and drug addicts on daily basis but this is something else! It might be "good" location in terms of how close Acropollis and all the other sights are but it REALLY doesnt make up for the totally unsafe and depressing atmosphere you get while staying there! I would give it a 0 but one star is just because the staff was super super nice! They deserve a better working place!
- Cosmopolitan773223 (2/5): SHOULD BE A NO-GO ZONE - I have never in my life seen a worse location for a hotel. The streets are full of junkies doing heroin, and it does not seem safe at all. Even visually, the area is a horror, full of awful graffiti, with run-down buildings and shops. The hotel itself is decent, and the staff was LOVELY, but nothing is worth feeling like you are really unsafe, and could get attacked if you walk outside. I am not even rating the hotel itself, but the location alone, because it was too bad to even think about the accommodation. I would never return, and I do not advise anyone to go there. Maybe the hotel should be relocated, because it deserves to be in a better area, and not one where your taxi driver tells you to be careful.

Clean hotel and very well located, we have not had to take public transport since everything is less than half an hour away by walking. The breakfast was also great. We took it to spend two nights in Athens for our honeymoon and the truth is that we left there very happy.

- Vikenty (2/5): STAY AWAY - The only good thing about this hotel is exceptional friendliness of staff members. Anyone I spoke to was very polite and nice. However, the hotel itself is the worst I ever stayed. The shower head was broken and I had to purchase new one in the market and replace it myself, as it wasn’t acciones by hotel staff. Room had a heavy air and smelled bad and is in desperate need of repairs. Hotel advertised the bar that doesn’t exist and tv has no English Channels. It is not hotels fault but area is infected with junkies that are injecting drugs and sleeping on the pavements next to the hotel and we had to walk around 15 min through the biggest slums in Athens in order to reach something that looks like 1st world country. While I recognize that things like repairs potentially can be pricey and lengthy to achieve, I was mostly angry by the fact that in the breakfast buffet baked beans were served cold. I assume Greek people don’t eat baked beans and have no idea that it is a hot dish, not cold. Furthermore, the pictures do not represent the room as they are clearly photoshopped or taken a long time ago as the room I got was no where close to what I saw in pictures when booking. In conclusion- do not book that hotel, nor any other hotel within 1 mile radius unless you like heroin addicts on your doorstep.

- Heike (10/5): - The Marina-Athens Hotel provided good and affordable accommodation for our 14-night stay in Athens. The management and staff were friendly and helpful, especially if you are able to speak some Greek. The hotel is located in the heart of the metro area in Omonoia, and is within easy walking distance to Syntagma Square, the Plaka, Monastiraki, and the archaeological sites. The neighbourhood around the hotel is a bit rough, but we were able to navigate through it without any problems.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Do your research - We didn’t do our research for this stay on our Greece trip. When arriving to the hotel, even our driver informed us to be safe and stay alert at all times in this area. When walking up/down the streets by the hotel there’s people doing drugs and sleeping on the sidewalks all hours of the day. Cherry on top was the human feces we encountered on the sidewalk right by the hotel. Price was the main reason for our pick of this hotel, but if we ever return to Athens we’d stay elsewhere. We could hear everything around us within the hotel room (in the hallways, room next to us). Bed was basically like cardboard and bathroom was small. This was the last stop on our trip, and we may have been spoiled in all the other places, but it just seemed not well kept. Trash was only changed once, which if you’ve been to Greece you know it should be changed every day since you can’t flush toilet paper. Breakfast had a lot of options which was nice to be fueled/energized before our long days of exploring Athens. The front desk and all other staff were kind and always greeted us. However, the hotel staff on our other stops in Greece were extremely informative of where to go and popular places we needed to check out. Marina Athens hotel staff basically just checked us in and handed us our key. We already had our own plans/itinerary but it’s still nice to get to know the place from people who work/live here.

While we had a positive experience within the hotel's premises, there were noticeable signs of drug activity in the surrounding area. This raised some safety concerns for us, as it created an atmosphere that felt less secure than we would have preferred. To improve the overall experience for guests, we would recommend that the hotel management consider taking measures to address these safety concerns. This could involve collaborating with local law enforcement to enhance security in the vicinity

- Michael (10/5): - I give a five star rating because of the service. The area the hotel was in wasn’t the best. But the hotel service and hospitality was great! The shower in my room didn’t work so the staff gave me an upgraded room. Excellent customer service and very nice staff!
- Evangelia (4/5): It’s scary outside - I will start with the positive which is that the staff is very polite and pleasant. Other than that I wish I read the reviews more carefully because the neighbourhood is in fact terrible. On the way here at around midnight on either side of the road there were people lying in the street. The taxi that brought me had to stop for several minutes behind a car that was bringing “sandwiches” to some of the homeless guys but I’m pretty sure it was drugs because everyone was high. One of the guys had his pants off. The room itself is worn down. Things are broken and need to be fixed, the duvet is really old, the sheets are not secure on the bed and there is a bad smell in here like the previous occupant ate too much curry. Overall I wouldn’t recommend and it’s a shame because the staff is professional.

My lamp shades were broken, loose wiring and couldn’t get the safe to work. Carpet’s gross and the kettle was unhygienic. Bottom line, no go!

- Julie (8/5): Good enough for a 3 night jaunt - Hotel was nice, we booked in a hurry due to checking into a pre booked hotel down the road that was dreadful. This was clean, tidy, breakfast was simple, too much furniture in the room so we could not use the wardrobe, no tea or coffee facilities in the room which was a shame and we struggled to get the heating on. But all in all it was alright for the money.
- Eugene (8/5): - The hotel is close to the main attractions and has a wonderful view with many rooms having balconies to the outside, so it would be perfect in the summer time. The neighborhood around the hotel is not the best, but it should not detract people from staying there as it is close to the acropolis, ancient agora, roman agora and all the other archaeological sites. Also quick access to transport links and easy access to many tour groups. The only one complaint I had was that the toilet in room 710 is located in an awkward position where the space is not the most spacious or convenient.

- Francisco (8/5): Liked the Hotel, not the location. - The room was good, the staff service is great. They give you all the information you need. The lobby is very clean and smells really good. The problem was that the bathroom was a little bit dirty and the location was not that good. Even when the hotel is located near every attraction by foot, we felt insecure to walk by its surroundings. We felt like we were in a dangerous neighborhood and had to take taxis all the time to feel safe. Maybe for other people this is not a problem but for us it was.

Only a 20 minute walk to Acropolis. Shady neighborhood, but not terribly unsafe. Walked in late at night with suitcases without any issue. It seems scarier than it is. Would definitely recommend staying here!

The neighbourhood, let's just say will make you rethink your opinions about mass migration into Europe, if you are of the left wing sort. My highlight was having to walk behind a guy with a syringe behind his ear as if it were a cigarette. It's a dirty street with sketchy people hanging out late into the night. While the hotel is close to the major tourist sites I'd find one in a better neighbourhood.

Great because it was walking distance to many of the tourist sites, shopping and restaurants but unnerving walking around the place as it looks like a war zone. The more people I spoke to the more I heard that this is a dangerous part of town and to stay out.

People, mostly immigrants, loitering nearby in the middle of streets, some selling most hanging out, might make women uncomfortable. For me it was simply loud,it did not make unsafe.

- Magnus (6/5): Bad area but ok hotel - What's not good about this place is not really the hotel itself but the area, really sketchy, dirty, stinky, scary area. Walking down the street I was just hoping I won't be stabbed or robbed, the bad area is about 5+ mins walk, once you're out of it it's ok. Other than that the hotel is more on the older style, nothing fancy but clean. Breakfast was good. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Such a pity about the area, probably won't stay here again only because of that.
- Maggy (6/5): Almost good - The air on dripped into my room. The remedy from the front desk was to turn it down. I sopped it up with towels. Later reception offered to change room ( 11 pm). Area seemed rough. Guard at the front. Efficient check in. Good breakfast, issues arose when I decided to change to share an airport taxi with a couple rather than take a cab to the metro and proceed from there. Reception get into it, is there an anti rule about not sharing taxis?

It was tiny, outdated, it smelled, I found hairs in the bed and bathroom, there was no balcony (which was advertised), I felt very unsafe getting to and from the hotel and was harassed for drugs and sex by people on the street when I was trying to find the hotel.

Kettle and coffee in the morning was much appreciated.The breakfast was good as well.. Just a couple of minutes and you are at Omonia and the Metro . My only concern was the neighbourhood . We always took a taxi at night . It was a little scary once you walked out on the street at night.
