- 29martib (8/5): RIU Cancun - Spring Break 2026 - I've stayed at this resort multiple times. Enjoy we have enjoyed it every single time. The staff is wonderful...Alejandra in the lobby bar was a joy & Keke at the buffet every morning always went above & beyond couldn't ask for better people.
- inderdips2026 (2/5): Awful experience - This was an absolutely horrific experience. My family and I were attacked by other guests, and instead of helping us, the resort staff ignored us. My cousin suffered a broken nose and was pleading for assistance, yet no action was taken. We were removed from the hotel late at night without access to our belongings. Even worse, the attackers were allowed to stay. This resort clearly does not care about safety or accountability.
- ekemb (2/5): DON’T COME HERE - I am extremely disappointed and disturbed by what happened at this resort. We were attacked and threatened, yet staff refused to help or involve proper authorities. Even with evidence and witnesses, we were treated unfairly and forced out. The lack of care and accountability is shocking.

The assistant manager repeatedly lied about what happened, despite clear video evidence and multiple witnesses supporting our account. When we asked to speak to a manager, they refused to meet with us at all. We were left feeling completely dismissed and unfairly treated. The way this was handled felt discriminatory and deeply concerning.
- NorthStar592087 (2/5): NOT a safe hotel to stay at! - Needed a 0 star option. Had the worst resort experience ever. Our basic human rights were violated by the staff at this resort. My family and I have stayed at Riu’s all over the world and this is by far the worst Riu experience. We were physically attacked by a group of Hispanic men staying at the resort. As the men were attacking us they were threatening us that they would send the cartel after us. My cousin, she was bleeding nose busted begging for help, begging for the police, begging for security to do something and hotel staff did nothing! The police came and did no investigation. The hotel staff did not listen to us and kicked us out of the hotel in the middle of the night with no money no passports and did not let us get our belongings. They held our belongings hostage until a day later even then it was a fight to get our stuff. Do yourself a favour don’t stay here, this hotel does NOT deserve your money. They also let the person who broke my cousins nose to remain at the hotel we tried to press charges and the hotel staff said they don’t want to help us cause we are no longer guests of the hotel. They do NOT care about tourist safety. I have reached out to WestJet, Sunwing and Riu Resorts. I am disgusted how we were treated. We had multiple witnesses who were other guests who spoke on our behalf and they were threatened by hotel staff that they would get kicked out to. Part of our group who were asleep and not involved were also forced to leave. We begged, bled and pleaded but no remorse was shown despite having video evidence from other guests clearly showing our assault. Management have fabricated stories and will not look at the evidence we have when it backs our story. I’m not sure if this was clear racial profiling but the people who assaulted us, as we were screaming for security were allowed to stay. This resort is not safe. They do not want to help. The staff lie and management have no regard for safety and proceed to ignore our emails and pleads for help in this foreign country. Staff even refused to give us the police’s number to press charges! Riu Hotel, look at the evidence and compensate as we will proceed legally for your violation of our rights.
- Departed68 (4/5): I Will Not Return - I have never left a bad review for anything really, However, I was so disappointed with my trip. I can't afford to go every year, so it means a lot when I can get away. Here is my honest review. We (my friend and I) had a lot of problems. We had booked 2 rooms and requested that they be close. I know they can't guarantee adjoining rooms, but we weren't even in the same building. We also upgraded to an ocean room view. My balcony had a 4 foot concrete wall. If I sat in the half broken chair that was provided, I saw 4 concrete walls and nothing else. I went and requested that I get moved to be in the same building as my friend. The new room was mainly overlooking a roof with only a partial view of the ocean. I went to use the ironing board to iron a dress, but when I took it out of the closet, it was so old and rusty that 2 of the legs were no longer attached. I told the cleaning lady so that they would replace it for the next person in the room. Instead, they wanted me to pay for breaking it. Eventually, they made me sign a waiver that said that I did not do the damage. The resort was so loud that I barely slept the entire trip. They use heavy doors that slam very loudly when they shut. These doors were slamming all night long. It almost sounded like a gun shot (I knew it was not a gun shot). It was that loud. Also, people were partying and screaming in their rooms and hallways until 4 or 5 am each night. There was no security and apparently no rules. The drinks were definitely watered down and horrible tasting. It is the only time that I have had a terrible margarita in Mexico. The pools all closed at 7 pm which I have never experienced either. I've only been to resorts where they close at 10 or 11 pm. The safe in the room didn't work and the freezer in the mini fridge looked dangerous. The hotel did not seem like a 5 star despite the amenities available. On the positive side, most staff were extremely friendly. The beach was lovely and the pools were terrific. Food was decent, as well (but no room service and restaurants close at 11 pm. I hope other people have had better experiences, but mine was not great.
- Q4831DMpaulh (4/5): this is the party central hotel, loud loud loud. - Now if you are looking to be right around the corner from the nightlife then it's okay. If you're looking for a good night's sleep don't stay here. They have a loud beach party going on until the early hours in the morning. If your ok sleeping in a night club you will be fine. The hotel itself is fine a little older but the staff maintains it well. The best part about this resort is the staff.

- F515VHlynnf (8/5): Good for the Price - We stayed for 5 nights during Spring Break. It was definitely a party atmosphere, but not overwhelming. Since I read many reviews before we left, I thought I'd share our experience. Here are some pros: 1) Great location: short drive from airport, with stores right across the street (pharmacy, groceries, etc.). Plenty of clubs and restaurants to walk to (but we didn't). I think this location also helps it have less sargassum than resorts farther south. 2) Beautiful views: From the rooms and all the public areas. Just gorgeous. Crystal blue water. At night, loved seeing the lights around the cove and across to the island. 3) Great staff: Everyone was friendly and hustling/working hard. We tipped a lot, and they deserve it. 4) Plenty of food and drink available all the time: It wasn't gourmet, but totally fine for the price we paid. Breakfast buffet was fantastic. 5) Activities: We didn't do many, but there was always something. The 18-year-olds in our group loved the Riu parties. The nightly shows weren't really my thing, but the bands/live musicians were really good. Beach volleyball was great. Here are a few cons: 1) The rooms are a little run-down. Again, you get what you pay for. They were always cleaned and restocked, but definitely an economy feel. 2) Not enough elevators. We stayed on the 7th floor, so we took the stairs about 80% of the time. Faster and good to get some exercise. 3) Interior doors slamming: There is a strange door between the living area and entry hall of the guest rooms. Wind/vacuum from other doors causes them to slam, and it's very loud, esp. late at night. Easy fix: Just get rid of those doors. 4) No reservations for restaurants: Many people got in line before 6, but that's not ideal for us. We ended up just getting on the list and taking our buzzer to the lobby bar to wait. It was usually much faster than they said it would be. 5) Small gym: WAY too small for this size of a resort. Every time I tried to go, it was full, with people waiting. Ended up running along a nice paved and shaded path to Riu Caribe and using their gym. (Also small but not as crowded). Recommendations: 1) Walk on the beach to the lighthouse (Punta Cancun) and then along the cliffs on the Hotel Ziva path to the huge Forum Beach area. Beautiful views the whole walk. 2) Take the ferry to Isla Mujeres for the day. Ferry is right next to the hotel. 3) The balcony has a drying rack. But it can get really windy. Pack a few clothespins. 4) Bring cards, dice, games to play in the lobby. The resort did not have any, and it made waiting for the restaurants fun. 5) People definitely got up early and reserved most of the pool chairs. We sat on the beach, so it wasn't an issue for us--always plenty of chairs there. Just an FYI. Overall, for the price we paid, this was a great, fun resort.
- brookecH1381SA (8/5): Amazing staff, rooms need a lot of work - The staff at this resort deserve a huge shout-out, each and every one of them were so welcoming and helpful. We received amazing service all around while we were here this week! Although this resort has seen some wear and tear it’s still a beautiful spot and it’s one of the cleanest resorts I’ve ever been to. The cleaning staff do an incredible job of keeping this place spotless, especially considering it’s more of a party resort. Food was also pretty decent. I heard some others complain but I was happy and could always find something I liked. RIU party was a blast and entertainment by the pool was always great!! The only criticism that I have is that the rooms are pretty awful. I’m used to going to Cuba and I’m fairly easy to please but they were BAD. Everything was very worn down and falling apart. Also the walls are paper thin. Our neighbours left their tv on all night and it sounded like the tv was on in our room. If someone is having a conversation in the next room, you can hear it. If you’re not planning to be in the room much, this is still a great place to enjoy a vacation in Cancun.

The location is perfect — right in the heart of the hotel zone with beautiful ocean views and easy access to nearby shops and activities. The beach is absolutely stunning with clear turquoise water and soft white sand. The staff were very friendly and always willing to help, which made the stay even better. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and housekeeping kept everything fresh every day. I also really enjoyed the food — there were plenty of options at the buffet and the restaurants, so there was always something good to eat. The entertainment and pool activities kept things fun during the day, and the atmosphere at night was lively but still relaxing. Overall, it was a great mix of relaxation and fun. I would definitely recommend Hotel Riu Cancun to anyone looking for a beautiful all-inclusive vacation in Cancun. I would absolutely come back again!
- ryankR3555JK (10/5): 10/10 - We had the best holiday at Riu Cancun. The rooms are great, we upgraded to a corner suite but the normal room was also nice, we were there for a special occasion. The hotel beach is fantastic, food and drinks amazing. I cant find any failt with this hotel it’s amazing. You look forward to the meals here and the a la carte restaurants were amazing. You dont get sick of the drinks like most hotels. I cant complain about anything im trying to think of something but it’s that good there is nothing I could improve. They dont have straws for coctails ha :( were booking for next year, thanks to the staff for the holiday it was amazing!
- markw00d23 (6/5): Good Location but Rooms could do with refurbishment - The location of the Hotel is Good and first impressions when we arrived were that it looked very nice and lovely and clean. Unfortunately when we got to our first room we found that the Air Conditioning was making a lod rattling noise and even the porter agreed when we pointed it out. On the third request a maintenance engineer was sent to investigate and he said that the AC Unit needed new fan which made sense and he would report to reception. Unfortunately reception didnt contact us so I went down to the front desk and was then told that they consider the noise normal. I requested the manager come up to the room and see it firat hand and at this point they changed their stance and offered us a different room. The down side to this was that the room overlooked the Main Pool which is very noisy all day and most of the night. The rooms themselves are a reasonable size but for a five star hotel leave a lot to be desired. We just accepted that this was the best it was going to get in terms of the room and so got on with enjoying the holiday. The facilities at the Hotel were very good, the staff were all fantastic and are 100% friendly and helpful. The drinks both branded and unbranded were good. There was a vast range of meal options from the Buffet to the four speciality restaurants and there is something for all tastes so you wont go hungry. Its nicely presented but as with all buffetts could do with being slightly hotter. There is a small section of the beech for the hotel which is more than sufficient and a quite pool in addition to the main pool but as the day goes on the quite pool does become shaded. Some may like the shade actually as it does get very hot in the sun. The worst thing for us was it was the start of spring break in the US and so a couple of days into the holiday the Hotel was overrun with young men and women who become loder and louder until you cant hear yourself think. They seem to get drunk and our theory was in the use they cant have alchohol until the age of 21 so getting it in Cancun at 18 was a shock to their system and it showed. Despite all of this we still managed to have a great time. We travelled with our friends but in addition there were lots of other friendly people. We did some good trips and attractions including Coco Bongo and Xplore plus the trip to the island.
- tash0nnad (8/5): Affordable Fun, Mediocre Drinks and Food - The decor is dated and doesn’t have a definite style. Odd color choices. Home of bottom shelf liquor and the buffet has limitations if you’re a flavor seeking foodie. But the RIU chain knows how to promote good times and fun. They have really reliable transportation to and from the airport and to the parties at another resort. The pools are packed with people from all over but it’s not over crowded with people. Opportunities to chill by the a less noisy pool or the beach is available. Steakhouse is probably the best place to eat on site.

I would return but not during March Break. First 2 weeks were perfect, no issues at all. My last week was the start of March break and it was somewhat noisy during the night from March Break students. I understand completely that it can be difficult to control .
- Ttigerca (10/5): March break - Our stay a the Riu Cancun was fantastic great service,the food was very good lots of choices and excellent service. The only problem we had was with our transfer. Which was booked thru the hotel. Our flight was delayed and by the time we arrived in Cancun we were marked as a no show, found out they don’t check to see if flights are on time or delayed. The pools are very busy get up early and get your towels down. The service at the lobby bar was outstanding big shout out to Maggie and David they are great bar tenders and wonderful people.
- Amoree_xt (10/5): Great experience! - My sisters and I had an amazing vacation, from the food at the buffet, to the various restaurants, to the swim up pool bar, to the resort club, and the shuttle service, everything at RIU Cancun, surpassed our expectations and made our trip wonderful! Our rooms were cleaned every day, the staff were very friendly, and the people at the resort were also very easy to get along with. The location of this resort is very ideal for beachgoers and for those looking for the club scene — there are so many opportunities to explore.
- Jenorman429 (10/5): Great Value - This was a great experience! I read lot of reviews before booking and it was hit or miss. After experiencing the resort for myself I can confirm it’s great. The buffet was fantastic! Lots of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Service was fantastic as well. We never had to wait for table and everything was very clean. The Italian and Asian restaurants were our favorite. The steakhouse and fine dining were ok. The food was served room temp at the fine dinning place, not my favorite. The sport bar was open 24 hours so you can get a drink anytime of the day. All of the bartenders were friendly and fast! Lots of smiles! There’s no room service but you can get prepared burgers, dogs and nachos after hours. It’s not 5 star but it will feed you. Restaurants close at 10 so plan ahead. We got a junior suite that over looked the pool area and ocean. The room was large and clean. Our mini bar was always stocked and we had plenty of bottle water and clean towels. Most negative reviews I saw were for nit-picky things. This is more of a budget resort. If you’re looking for a high class Michelin star experience, this isn’t for you. But, if you’re looking for a great location, good food, friendly service and clean amenities, this is your spot. I’d definitely book another RIU resort.

- Sightseer07210818943 (6/5): Don't come here during spring break - Overall the resort is nice. Great beach and ocean views from rooms. The front desk staff and staff in general are very pleasant. There was a nice party voice the first night but then it just got to be too much. The resort was overrun by spring breakers and that's why I give it an average review. I take some responsibility for not checking the policy before booking, but I will say that there's no way that MANY of these kids were 21 or older. Loud noises at night, way too much noise and yelling into the early hours of the morning, 2am to 4am. Rude manners in restaurants and bars by these kids too. No tipping for the hardworking staff. They had to close the pool because someone vomited. There are other things too, but hopefully the resort will try to limit the number of kids they allow to book. If this is a sample of young people today, we're in trouble! Probably wont stay again.
- Resort623789 (4/5): Don’t be fooled by those credit back. - The hotel is in serious need of renovation. The elevator is old with broken lights, floor tiles are cracked, and several hallway light fixtures are broken. The only projector in the hotel was also broken, and staff had to entertain guests while the big screen was being fixed. The only nice thing about the room was the ocean view. The TV was extremely small with strange sound, and the bed was simply two full-size beds pushed together, which made it very uncomfortable to sleep on. The bathroom was not clean and there was mold on the shower door. The food was just okay—nothing special. The most concerning issue was safety. I saw people without wristbands on the beach (which is supposed to be private for the hotel), and they were able to walk directly up to the pool area using the stairs. The staff were friendly overall. Miguel at the wet bar was excellent—he’s a great bartender who really knows how to make drinks. He was definitely the highlight of our stay

Cleanliness: commons spaces of resort were very clean. Our room was cleanish, but had blood on the curtains and some sort of crud on the wall. Value: decent value for price. Location: beach was nice, views were solid, not too far from airport with tons of restaurants, shops and bars nearby. Sleep quality: adjoining room noise was crazy. You could hear people next to us having a normal volume conversation. Air conditioning was finicky. Made for some challenging sleeping. Rooms: were ok. Showers large and hot. Decent size. A bit dated. Mentioned noise from adjoining rooms.

- kikrn (8/5): TYPICAL RESORT - Nice and enjoyable stay. The service staff was incredible. I was not impressed with the location; minimal beach space and very little room around the pools, not to mention it is impossible to get a chair at the pools, over half of the chairs have towels on them without being occupied. The rooms are old appearing and forget trying to get the air condition to work. Most nights we slept with the doorwall open cause it was cooler than the air. The beds are 2 double beds pushed together so forget trying to snuggling with your partner or you will fall between the beds. if you are a smoker at the end of the resort there is a 10 foot roped off section for a designated smoking section.I have never had to experience that outside at a resort on the beach. Otherwise the wait staff at the bars were great. Food was average. Overall, it was a nice stay but would not go back.

The staff was some of the friendliest and most well spoken of all the resorts we’ve been to. The food was really good for buffet food. They even had lobster at lunchtime one day! It was delicious. The cleaning staff do an absolutely phenomenal job. It was some of the cleanest resorts. We’ve also been on. Our rooms were always top notch cleaned. Everybody was very welcoming. We had to use the medical services one day as I did get bit by a spider, but I do believe it was on an outing that we did. I did not see the spider. I just woke up with a very nasty bite on my finger. The doctor did tell me that it was a spider though. We did not go down to the beach very much, but it was always clean. It is a bit of a small smaller beach, but it is beautiful. All of the staff is extremely welcoming!! Even the cleaning staff are cleaning up messes are happy and smiling and greeting you and asking how your day is going! The location is also great. We walked over to the ferry and took it over to Isla Mujeres. It is a short 10 minute walk to Coco bongo if you choose to go there. Shopping is also about four minutes away. There is even shopping centre directly across the road. Although it is a bit rundown, it is there. There’s even a Starbucks across the road! Lol. Now did the things that I did find were not quite as good. The coffee throughout the entire resort was terrible. Lol I was grateful for the Starbucks across the road. Our shower was broken. We should have complained the first day, but it seemed so minuscule compared to the rest of the amazing resort so we just toughed it out. It just would go from hot to cold very fast so I had to have a very quick shower. The beds aren’t the worst but they’re not great. The drinks were all extremely sweet! I had to order everything half water. All in all, we would definitely stay here again and would definitely recommend for people to stay here. I traveled with my family - my single sister who enjoyed the pool bar and music, my elderly parents who enjoyed the quieter pool with the afternoon sax player, and my husband and I that enjoyed the pool with games. We all vacationed today and didn't have to compromise.

- loriann3515 (10/5): Exactly what we needed - I went to RIU Cancún with a friend of mine after canceling at a different resort that seemed to not be what we were looking for. I wasn’t sure what to expect since it has been awhile since I had been to Mexico. I am unsure where to start. So, here we go. From the moment we walked in we felt like family. Every single person that works there is amazing! They treat you how you treat them. The only mean people we saw was other guest just acting entitled and honestly you deserve bad service if you are a rude person. Just a few of our favorites- Poncho at breakfast, Miguel, Big Poppi, and Gabril at the swim up bar, Jackie servicing seats at the pool and soo many more. The resort is not huge and for our shorter stay it was amazing since we never got lost and knew right where to go. The pools are beautiful, the ocean is white sand, blue water and minimal seaweed. They work so hard on the food with a million options for all different cultures at the buffet. A lot of people state that it is the same in the reviews most days but honestly you tell me how you can change a buffet that already has 250 options a day. Come on!! The restaurants were a bit confusing. One day we got a buzzer and waited 20 minutes and one day they said we needed to be in a line early for a spot. So basically if you want the steakhouse go to the 6pm line for a spot otherwise you can go to the other restaurants. Our room was simple but exactly what we needed. It was always clean, stocked and had a beautiful view! We did request for more items like extra pillows and water and it came both times super fast! Housekeeping is amazing! The elevators dance to the beat of their own drum and I can see how if you were in the middle of the hotel this would be a bit harder for you. We were on twelve so we usually had no trouble getting on a new one coming from the top. Sometimes it would open and there were frustrated folks on 7 or so, but that was usually in the mornings only. Otherwise the line to go up went fast and caused no issues there. The drinks are good, they have a ton of options and they pass out shots all day if you want. Which we took many. They may be a bit watered down and I think that makes it even better. I want to be tipsy not hammered anyways. I am a bit older, in my 40’s and I was worried I may feel a bit out of place at the party hotel. Boy was I wrong, they have all ages, all kinds of people and everyone was just having a good time. Yes it is noisy at night but I brought earplugs, heard a few doors slam but never even had to put them in. Checkout was just as easy and check-in. We were sad to leave but want to stay at a RIU again. I was definitely impressed. Basically if you are a nice, down to earth person and realize nothing in life is perfect then this is the place for you. If small things bother you go somewhere else and don’t put that staff through your entitlement.

The rooms, especially the AC system needs reno and proper cleaning (quite noisy, musty smelling). Doors stick. Rooms overlooking F & B have to put up with cooking smells on balcony. Entertainment by the activities pool was great. Can’t adjust temp in room, showerhead was broken, safe didn’t work.
- HungryandTraveled (6/5): An average resort in Cancun - We stayed in a nice Jr. Suite with sea view, which we enjoyed. One caveat is the floor in the shower in the bathroom, was slippery—no grooves in tile or a provided bathmat. The staff were friendly, hardworking and the best part of this hotel. The food was good, not spectacular but always available. The pool area was nice, but loud (it was difficult to find lounge chairs, let alone in the shade.) No real entertainment at night, although they provided a party to another one of their hotels. The first few days of our stay were truly lovely, and we felt optimistic and well cared for. Unfortunately, our final day and night left us disappointed and unsettled. As someone living with celiac disease, dining can often feel stressful when traveling. I was genuinely grateful to both La Toscana (Italian) and the Steakhouse for doing their best to provide safe meals from the limited options available to me. Their efforts did not go unnoticed, and I felt accommodated and respected there. We were especially excited to dine at the Kulanarium (gourmet restaurant) on our last night as the online menu indicated several gluten-free options. However, when we arrived, we were told those items were not actually available as gluten-free, leaving me with very little I could safely eat. It was disheartening and embarrassing to have to leave, and we returned to Toscana, where once again I felt welcomed and cared for. That evening, what should have been a restful final night became incredibly frustrating. We were kept awake nearly the entire night by the sound of a chainsaw. After an otherwise pleasant stay, it was upsetting to end on such a disruptive note. By morning, we were exhausted and honestly relieved to move on to the next resort. We truly wanted to leave with only wonderful memories. While there were bright spots and people who made real efforts to accommodate us, the final experience overshadowed what had been a promising stay.
- JillJill2026 (10/5): Great Time at the Riu Cancun - We had a lovely time. Thank you. Our schedule pick up and drop off went very well. The front desk was friendly and helpful. The rooms were cleaned regularly. The pool was beautiful and we learned we need to get up by 6:30 pm to lay our towels on chairs. The staff was wonderful. The food was pretty decent. Overall we loved the location and entertainment. Well worth it !
- wallflowerone (8/5): Would stay at a riu again - We enjoyed our stay at this resort. They had entertainment every night. There is a flea market type are a short walk down. Though expect for the vendors to pursue you to shop at their market. Congo Bongo also isn’t far along with places to eat. The only issue was our safe didn’t work 2x. Though they were prompt to fix it. You can bring you own Stanly type containers and they will but your drink in that. Our bed was a bit odd. Two full beds pushed together. They have a place you can exchange money, you’ll need to present your passport. They have several excursion vendors out by the stage. You can book any day trips with. We used Amstar and were happy and would use again. I would stay at another Rui.

- time-off808 (8/5): Great Location - The location was great. The ocean was bit more mellow than the the strip, and it was only a 10 min walk to get to the main playa. The beach at the hotel was very easy to swim. The connecting door to the adjacent room was very thin, to the point of being able to hear the safe code being entered, which really sucked. Earplugs are a must. The food was as good as any other Riu; there is always something to be found that is palatable. The transportation to the hotel in the morning was crazy early; 9:00 am departure for a 12:55 flight. I would not do it again; four stops before the airport, and 15 minute waits for late people at some stops. The staff were all great, other than the woman working the pool towel return hut, who clearly hated her job.

- 0822Kurt (8/5): Christmas Stay - I have stayed at several RIU resorts. I have seen a slight change in the services of the Cancun from my last stay. There was not consistent pool side service for drinks. There were days with no one offering to take drink orders. The food is very good but seemed to be slightly less quality from the past visit. The hotel is clean. The lobby has a welcoming scent. The amenities are very good. The availability of night shows has not been really existent since RIU has offered theme parties at the Caribe. The theme parties have 2 events that are from 2-7pm, and 2 from 7-11pm. It would be nice to have better shows on the off nights of the theme events that are from 7-11pm.

The bath towels/linens are very old and hard (not soft at all) The buffet food was not the best but the steakhouse and Italian restaurants were very good.
- 810sallyn (6/5): CAREFULLY review their promises - The hotel lobby and common areas look very nice. I got the ocean view promised. The bed was only average. The water pressure was very bad. I have long hair and couldn't properly rinse it. If someone flushed a toilet while I was showering, I got blasted by hot water. The food was repetitive and so-so. Service from restaurant staff was very good, but the desk clerks leave a lot to be desired. I chose this property because it offers airport shuttle. I am also a class member so I should get free shuttle. BUT! They said that I didn't book through the hotel so I was ineligible. When I showed that I had booked through the hotel, they gave me a phone number to call. It didn't work. I went to another clerk and she said a representative was on the property, by the pool. Um...why didn't the first clerk tell me that? And by the way, which pool? There are a few. The representative did the same "you didn't book through the property song and dance and gave me a number to call. I ended up just booking, and paying for, my own transfers. I doubt I'll ever stay at a RIU property again.

We were asked to pay for soiled sheets that were caused by people who stayed before us. We had to ask probing questions about when they took the pictures, show them when we actually checked in, with flight timings to get them to cancel the charges. It was painful. Even after getting everything cleared, they wanted to charge us again for the same issue at check out. We had to go through the ordeal again.

Strength: 1. excellent location, walking distance to Cancun Center; 2. every room has ocean view, which you have to pay extra to get this feature. Plus every room has a balcony facing the ocean, where you can there to enjoy the beautiful ocean view; 3. gigantic lobby with magnificent view; 4. utilizing sister hotel's (RIU Caribe) resource: guests can go to RIU Caribe for party with free shuttle. 5. foods are excellent; Hotel provided fantastic dinner for XMas eve, including lobsters and Spainese hams; Weakness: 1. Lighting in the bedroom is not ideal during night. When you wake up and go to restroom, the room is too dark. If you turn on light, it's too bright. 2. The sound of closing door from your neighbor is too loud.

Will definitely stay at the Riu chains again when travelling. The entertainment was very well done and engaging. The memories made were incredible and we will look back on this experience very fondly.

- sophieaO9570AI (10/5): Lovely Riu Cancun Holiday - I visited the Riu Cancun for 8 days in December 2025. I am travelling from London, Age:25 All I can say is that prior to travelling, I saw a lot of negative reviews and lots of comments online that really made me contemplate changing hotels. However, I stuck with the Riu Cancun and I can safely and happily say I have had the most wonderful 8 days on my holiday. The weather has been beautiful, the hotel staff are honestly so polite and always greet you good morning and if you glass is empty rest assured a member of the team will be coming to ask what beverage you would like. There are 5 restaurants in this hotel and I can say I only visited two, due to having other plans and arrangements whilst on my holiday. The steak restaurant in the hotel is the busiest of them all and if you wish you to get a spot, I’d advise going at 6pm sharp to secure a slot for that same evening. It is first come, first served basis which I believe makes it fair for everyone. The Italian restaurant was also very nice. I believe that at the Riu Cancun there is food for everyone and you won’t find yourself hungry at all. During the day from 11am-6pm they have a small snack bar called PePe’s and honestly, if you like burgers, tacos, nacho’s etc then you’ll be a happy individual. In regards to the pools, they can be quite loud and a lot of people and noise, however, if you have booked Cancun as a holiday you must know that Cancun is known for its party culture and that is something you have chose to book. If you are not ready for noise during the day by the pools etc, please consider booking elsewhere. The beach is very relaxing and it does not have the loud noise that happens around the pools. In regards to sunbathing, I will say there is specific beds that have the sun all day long and there are certain areas that unfortunately lose the sun during the day due to the height of the hotel itself. You will quickly pick up the best spots in the hotel, however, I must say you should be downstairs by 7-8am to secure one of these spots. Room Cleanliness: My room was cleaned every single day and my bed sheets and towels were changed without request. You have two hangers for your front door. Green hanger is a request for your room to be cleaned, sheets changed and your Mini bar (optics) to be changed etc. I never once had to ask for them to attend to my room if needed. The red hanger is a do not disturb hanger and if this is placed on your door, they will not tidy your room or even enter your room. Honestly, I really don’t have any negatives to put across for my holiday and I’d most definitely visit again. Stop letting other people put you off your holiday and go with your gut. I’ve had an amazing time and made some wonderful memories.

The pool parties they brag about are not even on property. 2 days in wish I could get my money back brought the whole family. - cvc1988 (8/5): Great holiday but spoilt by stolen EarPods - Had an amazing stay, the rooms are very clean, however the staff that come into the rooms to clean/ fill up drinks can’t be trusted as I had my ear pods stolen from a bag on my bedside be carful if staying on the 9th floor which I where I was - I didn’t bother report it as I only noticed an hour before check out and its well known that reports of theft are not take seriously by management at Riu. On a positive note I wanted to shout out/ thank Betty from Guest services, Miguel from the bar pool, Poncho and Monica from the buffet, and Mary from lobby bar for being so friendly and attentive they made my experience great. The food was great with lots of choice with the Japanese restaurant being my favourite.

We generally go with treat people with respect, and you will get the same in return. Our room was just fine. Cleaned daily and resupplied when asked for extras in the fridge. We also leave a tip daily for the maids who clean. The area around the hotel was exceptionally clean and well maintained. We would like to shout out to the staff down near the pool restrooms who work continually on keeping the floors mopped up from water from us swimmers. Restrooms were cleaned constantly. We would also like to give a shout to the staff at the buffet. Great Job!! Plenty of choices to pick from at the buffet. Scenery! Scenery! Scenery! The look out into the ocean was beautiful. Water was awesome as well!! I will admit that were a couple of times we may have heard some noise late at night but nothing for us to be upset about. Hell, people are there for a good time!! We sleep with ear plugs when out of town!! Also, close the extra door in your room to mitigate hallway noise! All in all, I would stay at another RIU if the price is right at time of booking!!

I selected this property based on the highly polished—indeed, clearly photoshopped—images displayed on the hotel’s website. Those images bear little resemblance to the actual state of the facilities. To be precise, the lobby and the staff are exceptional, and they deserve genuine commendation for their professionalism and hospitality. Unfortunately, their efforts are completely overshadowed by the deplorable condition of the hotel itself. The age and neglect of the property were immediately apparent the moment I entered the elevator. It is obvious the hotel has not undergone any meaningful upgrades or renovations in at least two decades. The room assigned to us was filthy, heavily dated, and wholly unacceptable. The mattresses felt as old as the elevator—no exaggeration—and the television did not function at all. Despite booking a king-sized bed, we were given two queen beds pushed together, and when I requested the bed type I had reserved, I was simply told none were available. The bathroom facilities were equally antiquated, matching the same 20-plus-year deterioration evident throughout the room. For a property within a major hotel chain, this level of disregard for maintenance and guest comfort is astounding. I can state unequivocally that I will never stay at another Riu property. The manner in which this hotel is presented online versus the reality of its accommodations is unacceptable and misleading. Travelers deserve transparency, and I sincerely hope this review serves as a warning to others: DO NOT STAY HERE. Even a standard Best Western offers better accommodations. The facilities at this property are, quite frankly, a joke.
- A8881QCpatrickm (2/5): Blaming guests for their own errors. Terrible attitude. - The worst experience I have ever had. Avoid !. Front desk are confrontational when we tried to solve an issue that they created. Check in took 40mins. After a long journey the last thing a traveller wants is mix ups with rooms after overbooking. We booked a twin room and were "upgraded" to a room with one bed. Another 40 minutes passed before someone put a fold out bed into the room. We were told that we would have a separate room the following night and I arrived back after a good night in Cancun to be told I have no access to the room. Staff take no responsibility and are confrontational. The attitude of the staff at front desk was the real killer though. Never experienced anything like it.

- relias (2/5): Save Your $- Do not Stay Riu Cancun - There was 10 of us. I convinced all these people to go there. I bought an ocean view room and was lied to when I checked in that it was of course it wasn’t and when I went back to the front desk asking for an ocean view room they said I had to wait until the next afternoon. Osmar, William and Vanessa at front desk were the rudest. We booked this in July and in October they had a 20% discount. Half our group got $200 back and me and the remaining people got $0. All kinds of fights would break out at all hours. My room was not cleaned daily. My do not disturb sign was stolen twice. Last 3 days 2 out of 4 elevators didn’t work. Horrible stay!!!

A few points for the property to improve; 1- Elevators always busy and time consuming to go up and down even when all 4 elevators are working. 2- Need shaded areas/umbrellas on the beach for those of us who can't take 100% sun exposure. What helps there is the fact that the shade from the building itlself starts building up early afternoon. A great plus is that all restaurants were able to accommodate our group of 10 people on one table.

This wasn't a problem though staff very nice and we went to floor 2 which seemed to be better. Rooms are dated and needing redecorated. Food was standard all inclusive. Nothing special. Big thing for me was the staff they are all very hard working and happy to accommodate you.

The property is nice but on the smaller side. Amazing ocean swimming but not ideal if you want to lay on the beach all day. The hotel is very clinical and serves all your basic needs - Rui party team were really good and enthusiastic made the days enjoyable round the pool. Hotel didn’t provide a very intermittent feel as it was so busy and comparing this to other Caribbean places we have been felt like we were just a number but this could be due to the busyness, party style hotel saying that the hotel entertainment wasn’t very entertaining. It all comes from the Rui party team. Good food choice from the buffet but quality could be better but still nice food, Al carte restaurant weren’t the greatest as there was first come first serve and waiting times could be a while and the portion sizes aren’t enough to fill you up so order two especially at the steakhouse. Staff are all well mannered and polite. Location is great it’s on the loop for all the trips and within walking distance to Coco bongos and the shops. Rooms are equipped with everything that you need and are clean but nothing fancy or exciting. Value for money was good in my opinion.
- 4ErinN25 (10/5): Cancun girls trip - Check in was smooth and easy. There are several bars throughout the hotel and the drinks were great. We used 2 of the 4 pools during our 5 day stay. The entertainment staff was fantastic! We went to shows 3 of the 4 nights we stayed and they were all different and fun! Our room was clean and well stocked with towels. There was hand soap and combo shampoo/body wash and conditioner provided. I liked the food options. The steakhouse was my favorite. We also tried the Japanese and Italian restaurant, the poolside buffet and the regular buffet. Not everything was what I would have chosen but I liked trying new things and I always found something I liked. We went to the neon party at the nearby Riu hotel. The hotel bus transport was super easy and convenient and the party was fun. You won’t have to take a towel unless you plan to use the pool. Check to see what parties are happening during your stay so you can dress for the theme! I will absolutely stay here again!

Rude person in charge of this. Otherwise the room was big, very nice landscape, good service, variety and quality in food.

Food was OK just got abit repeatable after the first week, italian restaurant was our favourite. The only let down was the very loud mouthy young Americans who can't hold there drink they should stick to drinking budwiezer, very rude to staff and so annoying I feel sorry for the staff. Obviously the hotel chain as got this hotel to be a 18-30 destination. Apart from the gobby yanks great holiday 👍
- Renee7070 (10/5): Enjoyed our stay - The first day at this hotel was pretty brutal, but it got turned around. Basically, when we checked into our room, the bedsheets were absolutely filthy, they were all stained, the room was filled with dust, and the air conditioner was broken, and there was just no way that we were gonna stay in that room so we went down to reception to tell them about it and the staff was very helpful and very nice about the situation and they had the room cleaned immediately and they told us that they were gonna switch us into a new room the next morning. Once they switched us into a new room, the room was 10 times better. It was extremely clean, it was spacious and everything in it was perfectly good. Overall, the surroundings of the hotel and indoors was very clean, the workers are extremely nice and friendly, and I was very scared of the food being bad, but surprisingly, the food didn't disappoint and they had a variety of different options to pick every single day, including five restaurants for dinner. One thing I don't like is that the music is very repetitive and so were the games so it would be nice if they would switch things up, especially for people who stay there longer than five days. But the beach is extremely beautiful, the sand is extremely clean and the water is super clear and beautiful. They have five pools total and they are also very clean, and multiple places where to relax. So in all, I would rate this hotel a 9/10 just because the first day the room was very disappointing but the staff turned it around, which made it a great trip over all.
- k0traveler (10/5): Pleasing stay - Decent property for the price but would be more appropriate at $200/night. Lobby was nice and modern, rooms have heavy wear. Bed was mediocre. Not a great hotel if you have a fear of heights: glass elevator, hallways have floor to ceiling windows overlookong the bay. Mini bar did have full size bottles of liquor so a major plus. RIU has an app that allows you to order maid service items and mini bar restocks without having to talk to a person, major plus for social anxiety. You can also preview the menus at restaurants (not buffet) on the app as well. The buffet made it easy to make healthy, low carb, or keto choices. Variety was great and many items were rotated daily. Restaurants were less than flexible. Menu is very set and food isnt really made to order. No customization on food there and very small menus at each. All of the food we ate was wonderful. Drinks were strong but bartenders were rarely willing to make anything other than what was in the preset cocktail menu. All were heavy on sugar and it was difficult to get drinks for my keto diet. No poolside servers made it necessary to walk all the way to the bar for each drink, less than ideal. Pool side taco bar was nice and food was good but same everyday. Beach is nice and clean but small and non existent during high tide. 4 pools but no hot tub. Overall not bad. Did not meet our fundamental needs but could be a great deal if your needs are different and you can get a great price.
- MikeMart1 (6/5): Hotel Riu - Cancun - Staff was very nice and friendly. Room was ok. Thermostat didn't work properly so the room never got cold. Ceiling fan was pointless and tv stopped working. Called to get it fixed but no one ever came up. Ok stay overall. Buffet style restaurant that had average style food.

- Julian_Ally (10/5): RIU Cancun - RIU Cancun was fabulous, The property was lovely. we stayed on the 6th floor and the view of the ocean was breath taking. The ocean was great not much seaweed and the pools were great. They had a pool primarily for entertainment, a separate pool if you just wanted to relaxed and be away from the noise and they also had a swim up pool bar. The restaurants were limited at this property but you could always find something satisfying to eat. For me, besides the front desk agents I found most of the service workers weren't that friendly especially at the restaurants. The location of the property was great! You could walk to nearby entertainment areas such as coco bongo and local restaurants. The Riu party was great, they shuttle you to a nearby property for parties which was always entertaining. Overall my wife and I enjoyed the vacation at Riu Cancun. We also stayed at the Riu Palace Kukulkan for a few nights and this property is gorgeous as well, good food and good vibes.
- lizzie086 (8/5): Lovely hotel and staff - Just returned after a 14 day stay from this hotel and must say how impressed we were with the staff, rooms, (little tip avoid the 13th floor as you cannot see the sea because of the ledge and high wall), including the overall cleanliness of the hotel. The staff worked around the clock trying to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The food was very good and we tried all the speciality restaurants during our stay and can say again we received excellent service especially that we had a birthday to celebrate during our holiday. The entertainment team worked again extremely hard all day to keep us busy and we never felt pressurised to join in if we didn't want too ( we did quite a few keep fit classes and games). It was spoilt however by the fact we expected to have the speciality nights i.e White night that we had packed for, at our resort only to be told that Riu had decided to do them at one of their sister hotels the Riu Caribe which a bus was laid on for the guests. Considering the Riu Cancun is an adults only and several of the guest were, shall we say, had been drinking to excess all day to then ship them down to a family hotel did seem very wrong to me. If I had my family at the Caribe and a drunken load of people invaded the resort I would have been quite annoyed to say the least. They were very loud and obnoxious at times and could do with a lesson in how to behave, falling over drunk and being sick, throwing drinks at each other etc but it was their holiday too and it takes all sorts. Overall the experience was a positive one but we will not be going back to this hotel in the future.

- Tri1x (8/5): Riu - My girlfriend, her friend and I had a great time staying, only problem were the beds, they were ridiculously hard and uncomfortable, the tv didn't work properly at all, but other than that service/everything else was great

- ashkay2025 (8/5): Great food / few addons needed - The food and venue were amazing. Super clean and everyone was so unbelievably friendly. I loved that everyone was bilingual as well. Super easy. I definitely think you would benefit with a hot tub on the property as it’s pretty disappointing to see the jacuzzi and it was cold. I also believe you should have duvets. The scratchy wool blanket you have wasn’t comfortable enough unfortunately.

Maintenance swapped the batteries twice, then it completely stopped working. This was a 5-day trip, and they did not offer us a room swap until the third day. After we have complained since day 1 of the trip. Outside of that, we enjoyed ourselves
- G9295KFmariok (8/5): All Adults Exclusive Get Away - The Riu Cancun is a frugal stay and a nice all exclusive. The drink are ok can't complain, the shows are strait, at night I would like more live shows. The food is 24/7, but after the restaurants close the sports bar is where you can warm up a hotdog or burger. They have five restaurants open during different times for breakfast lunch and dinner. Some complain, but if you want a better stay go pay more else where. The beach during November 2025 was nice and many people where in the ocean. It was all adults. I will be back to the RIU Cancun, the room is dated, but no issue for me. The staff are nice and friendly, I hope many are still there when i got back in 2026. They also have a small club that open around 11 ish at night for a few hours. The vibe is chill, but fun and body positivity so no problem taking your shirt off and not having a six pack.
