• TranTruongSon (8/5): A Comfortable Stay with Helpful Service - This hotel is in a good location to explore Sinagpore. Nearby, you'll find convenience stores, laundromats, and the MRT entrance, all just a short walk away. It's super handy for daily needs and getting around. While the hotel isn't as new as some others nearby and the elevators can be slow, these are small things considering the overall great value. Rooms are clean, and while the internet isn't super-fast, it'sgood for everyday use. A big plus: there are international power outlets in the rooms, so you might not need an adapter. What really makes Hotel Bencoolen stand out is its super helpful staff. They're always eager to assist, day or night, making your stay even better.
• WAH-KWAN (2/5): - Very small ,old, saw lots of small ants on the floors,not sure what were they! Talk long time to the receptionist to change the room . He saw the insect too. Hope we do not bring back any of them home.
• FrequentFlier315013 (2/5): Avoid - Moldy walls, splintering floor, blocked plumbing, grubby , thin towels, a/c noisy and forceful directed at the bed, unable to control or turn off. Restaurant could not even provide a decent cup of tea! Nothing to recommend it Avoid, despite low cost.

• RickieJ (8/5): More room amenities than expected - Our introduction to Singapore began after being dropped off at a 4-star hotel memorably located on Hong Kong Street. Rated 4 stars, Hotel Bencoolen is modern and conveniently located near a big shopping centre and a couple of train stops. For our 4-night stay, we took a smallish room as we intended to mostly be out to drink in as much Singapore as possible before heading to Kuala Lumpur. Despite expecting a smallish room, we still had a sofa, desk and chair plus an armchair to add to the comfort levels. The only negative was the thin curtains so the city lights shone into the room and it was quite noisy on our second floor so sleep was inconsistent. Storage And this is another in an incredibly long line of hotel rooms with no hooks. It did have another hotel rarity, drawers; 3 of them. I still don’t know why hotels have stopped offering drawers (answers on a postcard). Open double wardrobe with 5 wooden hotel hangers. 3 shelves below are ideal for shoes and one up above. That’s another trend, wardrobes without doors. One bedside drawer and 2 at the good-sized desk/dressing table Ample storage along a slim shelf Bathroom For a standard room, the bathroom is spacious. It’s behind a frosted, wall which ensures the room stays light and airy. They’ve provided a separate shower alongside the all-important bathtub. I love the separation as bathtubs can be dangerously slippy when also used for showers (as proved by beloved’s broken ribs when slipping in on in Krakow). Both had an additional hand shower. Generous sink. 2 large towels and a bath mat. We were short on hand towels but there was a linen cupboard right outside so managed to access them from there. Toiletries - shower gel, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Toothbrush/paste Shower cap Vanity kit - cotton buds and cotton wool pad. Facilities TV - only had 4-5 channels although Netflix was available. UK-style 3-pin plug sockets Safe Slippers Iron/board Hairdryer Tissues Food and drink Kettle and tea/coffee 2 bottles of water Breakfast was included although we never partook. It was in the tiny lobby, we managed to get a seat once but there was no food left. It never looked particularly appetising but great if you can make it work and are prepared to wait for a seat. Hot drinks and water are available in the lobby 24/7 Service was adequate although we weren’t able to safely store our luggage on the last day, other than in the open lobby right by the front door. Luckily check-out was at 12 so we decided to leave the cases in the room for one last exploration of the city before heading to the Changi airport early to enjoy its many wonders.

U can change the room temperature but not close the ac. My big problem was that the cool air came in your hed when u sleep. I had 2 days of problems after that . Staff is not so friendly, they said that they will help us with the ac but nothing happened. Low standards hotel ...
• zed2434 (2/5): Avoid this place - I would advise against staying at this hotel due to its subpar condition. The hallways emit unpleasant odors and the rooms contain mould. Furthermore, the bathroom lacks a power outlet, and the main power source is inconveniently located at the bedhead. The breakfast service was also disappointing. The pool, which is ostensibly a spa pool, had non-functional bubble jets and inadequate chlorination. My relatives attempted to change rooms due to the mould issue but were informed that the hotel's age, dating back to 1968, was the cause. The sole redeeming aspect of this hotel is its location. Notably, nearby hotels, such as 30 Bencoolen and V Hotel, are reportedly superior. We persisted in staying only because we had prepaid and were unable to obtain a refund.
• Gaelle (6/5): - The location is the main asset. Easily accessible and nice neighborhood. Food courts nearby for meals. The cleanliness was average. The only amenities were soap, toothbrushes and shower caps. Though we booked for 4 we had only 3 large towels each day. No face towels. The shower was leaking but they came and fixed it when we asked. There was also a power problem with the safe.

• Felipe de Jesus (8/5): Nice, I could consider stay here again - I really enjoy this hotel. It was perfect for me traveling solo. Near the train and in a convenient location. Minor hiccups. The day of arrival ~9pm, my unit had a broken AC. Couldn't do much, until next morning. It got fixed by 11am, but couldn't believe how important AC is here. The room is exactly like in the pictures. Spacious. One thing the unit did not have a air extractor that can stay longer than the time you are in the shower or in the unit. There is no ability to open windows either. So, it is very noticeable the mold growing in the windows. One other thing that was uncomfortable, I am 5.1" and the bathtub in this room is insanely high! I was scared of slipping off on my way out. Other than that, pleasant stay spacious unit for two friends and with our own private bathroom.

The breakfast was of low standard. The staff were very helpful but the food kept running out and there was a very narrow range of options.

We had a superior room which was incredibly small and in a poor condition with poor decoration and furniture which was badly scratched. There was no room to store luggage properly. The bathroom was very dated with exposed pipes and loose taps. The room had an interconnecting door to the next room and we had poor sleep as the occupiers were noisy one night. Breakfast was very limited and unappealing. We asked for a glass for the room, the bar wouldn't give us one and the hotel didn't possess any. The room was 150 sgd per night and poor value for money. On the plus side the air con was fine and the bed reasonably comfortable, the location is good. We wouldn't stay again.

The window isn't openable, but in the evening one hears bordering rooftop bars. If one is a light sleeper, he should have ear plugs.

• michellelI2663YI (2/5): Photos incredibly misleading, definitely not 4-star. Closer to a hostel than a hotel - I had the Executive Premier King room booked through work - apparently not to be confused with the Executive room. This room has no desk, no chair, not even a simple bedside table or a wardrobe, and is around 12sqm. The hanging rail is not even high enough for any work clothes to actually hang freely. Front desk staff were also utterly unhelpful. Long story short, this is basically an over-priced hostel.

Breakfast absolutely horrible, polystyrene plates, cheap bread for toast. Coffee and tea the worst. As for the staff, rude, don’t listen or try to resolve issues. We moved to another hotel after just one night of a five night stay in Singapore. Aircon like a truck parked in your room, blackout blinds! I don’t think so, just paper thin material. Bathroom old and very tired, toilet seat came off. Please save your money and look elsewhere!!!

Photos do not represent this hotel at all. Avoid at all costs. Reception staff were unhelpful. Dreadful experience.

Positives: great location across the street from the Bencoolen MRT station; near many restaurants; walkable, safe neighborhood; taxi stand in front of hotel; decent pool area; air conditioning in my room worked well; helpful staff Negatives: unfortunately, the negatives far outweigh the positives and have mostly to do with the condition of the hotel and the breakfast. I've included photos with my review so that you don't have to take my word for the following: in general, the hotel is very dated and needs more than a basic sprucing up--it needs to be renovated. The owners are responsible for this condition, not the staff which seemed to be trying to do the best they could to keep a horrible hotel clean. The carpet in the hallway on my floor was in the worst condition I've ever seen in a hotel. It was terribly stained and, quite frankly, gross. The flooring in the room was coming up. It seemed that water had dripped from the air conditioner and warped it. There was black mold around the air conditioning vent. The rooms are very small, basically big enough for a bed. Breakfast was inadequate. It's crowded into a small space and the area didn't feel clean. I didn't see juices and there was no indication as to what the various offerings were (usually a hotel will have a little sign next to the offerings so you know what something is). I stayed at the hotel for two nights (thankfully, only two) and had another hotel booked when I returned a few days later from Cambodia. The prices were nearly the same and the second (V Hotel Lavender) was far superior to this one.

• DiscoveryTours (4/5): Don't get aucked in by the glossy adds in booking sights. - What a dispointment our first room was no other word for it "dirty" I think the sheets had not been changed. The receptionist moved us to another room which was cleaner to a fashion but completely dated decore. Bathroom needs aclean to remove the huge scum on everything with bleach. Floor coming up. Which is a trip hazard!!! Room so small and smelt damp. I had booked a tripple room but did not get it and when I asked they said that there was not available. Bed linen clean but old and stayed. Bed was sooo hard Towels were old and grey Breakfast was included. Interesting pasta, beans, eggs, cabbage and toast again nothing like the photos. I wish I had read the reviews first. Though some rooms must have been done up for sure the top floors are completely neglected. This is the second worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The two.stars are for the receptionist who was very helpful when I complained almost like she was used to it.

• orepukichick (2/5): ONE STAR STAY IN A THREE STAR HOTEL - A terrible experience. Smelly, damp room (the whole floor was wet and sticky) . Bathroom was stained black & filthy in corners. It was noisy all night (sounded like there was a nightclub next door!) Also in our room there was an adjoining locked door with a light shining under it, which didn't give the safest feeling. The passage carpet was stained and filthy, there is no other word for it. Staff were unsmiling and offhand. Breakfast was not ready to start at 7.00 a.m. as stated. We fled without breakfast not wanting to stay another minute. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

• Siew Mooi (10/5): The best I can give is good at best. - The room in the picture isn't the room we stayed in, we had a King Size Bed. For two nights it's smelled as someone was smoking near us, no smoke detectors installed, only fire protection. Room was in need of repair, see attached photo. Airport Shuttle service is having the Hotel call for Taxi service, misleading information. Breakfast, better off not taking advantage of the Hotel offer.
• Tian (8/5): - Great hotel for more than 2 people and excellent location. My sister and her 3 children (ages 17, 14, 11), 4 of them were able to fit ok in the triple room. The bedding was good for this purpose. The hotel's amenities is not top notch, bathroom vent is quite loud and the blinds played up a bit. But we weren't in the room much of the day so it served its purpose for sleeping only. At night it can be a bit noisy as there's a bar/club somewhere near the building. However, I didn't mind it because there's 3 different MRT around that makes it very easy to travel around Singapore. Also, please be aware they do not have laundry facilities only laundry service. If you want to wash your own clothes I would recommend walking to Victoria Hotel, less than 10mins walk. They have a coin operating washing machine and dryer there that's open to the public.

• suzanna (2/5): Will not recommend :( - Initially we were given room 711. Felt body itchy all over and realised there are bed bugs. Requested change of room and thankfully there was but twin sharing. Don't really care much so long I don't get bitten again. Room 302 was much bigger than the previous room but the mattress wasn't spine support friendly. Didn't sleep well during my two nights there. Room was really small. Wall half painted and interior wasn't that inviting unlike what was shown as advertised. No box of tissue provided. Basic toiletries but no holder for the mini soap bar at the basin. Room has a damp smell. Now coming to the breakfast part, nevermind the fact we use disposables but breakfast was so so. The fried kway teow and fried rice ok. But not for the noodle that goes with the spaghetti sauce. Has a rubbery feel. It's not really pasta noodle. saw a lot of plates with the noodles leftover. Please serve bread in future. With eggs, butter, jam to go along with. You can't go wrong with that. At least any leftover bread, you can still keep for the next day or make into french toast. In this way, wastage can be significantly reduced. Also beverages provided is only confined to 3in 1 coffee or tea. Surely no harm in providing more variety like plain coffee or tea right? Will not stay in this hotel. Believe there are better ones in the vicinity like Hotel Mi, Bencoolen 30, Strand, etc.
• Verified traveler (10/5): Satisfied with mini staycation - The kettle in our room was rusty, and the staff changed it immediately. Fast response! The staff also arrange for the maintenance department to adjust the air-conditioning in our room. Furnishings were a bit old but clean, no bugs no insects nothing. Buffet breakfast wasn't a lot of choice, but still not too bad. Location is good and convenient. Overall I am satisfied with my mini staycation and will not hesitate to choose this hotel again.

• Pauline (8/5): - The staff are fantastic - friendly, helpful and cheerful. It is clean and has everything one needs. The location is excellent, walkable to a lot of popular areas and stations near. Plenty of buses along the street too. Lots of campuses around so lots of cheap eating spots but plenty of upper market restaurants too with a variety of cuisines to choose from. In short, would thoroughly recommend Hotel Bencoolen.

• Lusu (2/5): - I’m so disappointed in the lack of cleanliness at this hotel. My daughter found an old tube of medicine, someone else’s slipper, and a SIM card… along with TONS of dust under the best. Carpets stains in the hallway. Bathroom is dingy. Bedding stained and tattered. Windows hadn’t been cleaned in months maybe? Algae all over the windows and paint peeling in multiple areas. The staff were very kind and hospitable but the condition of the hotel was very low quality and unclean.
• See Kiet (10/5): Clean - Clean environment although a bit of hiccup due to payment confusion. No 24 hour shop nearby too. (Not that near like 10 min walking distance although is in the town Center) Overall ok
• Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointing for Singapore - The hotel reception staff were lovely but the room was damp mould on ceilings and bathroom needed a good clean as did the pool area green mould. It looked like it hasnt been cared for at all very rundown. Area is fine across the road from MRT close to Chinatown Little India etc. We have stayed in Singapore a no.of times before and had always been pleased with the high standards of hotels before.
• jiemin (8/5): Bad sleep due to noise from below - Generally room itself was all ok, the downside is that the noise from below is still very much heard from level 6 where we stayed. As it was a saturday night, there's a crowd at the street level dining, drinking and chatting. And their chatting and laughter up till 3plus am kept the family unrested. Kids and the adults were dead tired the following day.

• Frank (8/5): - This hotel deserves an extra 1/2 star above its 3 star rating. The room I had was spacious and well maintained. The locked door connecting the opposing room was not thick or soundproofed enough as I can hear the other family enjoying their staycation over the extra long weekend holiday. Not a major issue to me though but the lukewarm hotwater was (seems to be a recurring issue in other star hotels I've stayed around here recently) Staff was attentive although a bit stretched as they appeared slightly understaffed. Did not have the chance to check out the pool but will consider coming back to this hotel again.

• Ying Ying (2/5): Avoid - Terrible Super mouldy room, stained sheets, caught a worm, everything was breaking apart Only saving grace was the security uncle Mohd who remembered our names, room number etc throughout the entire stay
• Filmoholic (6/5): - We had to change room once as the bedsheet in our initial room was dirty. The 2nd room had a very bad TV service. The television signal was very bad. Our phone didn't work when we changed to the 2nd room as well. So we had to go all the way down to the lobby to request stuff. Kinda disappointed with the service management.
• Verified traveler (4/5): good receptionist but horrible stay - air con at lobby not working. the lift is very rundown. when i reached my level, the mouldy carpet smelly is strong. the moment i opened the room door, i see a very old and rundown toilet, small wall tiles, grouting are badly done. although the toilet is clean, but the old and rundown feel makes it very uncomfortable. bed was horrible. its spring bed. so its not firm and the pillows were all very soft. the bed cover is not white, but light greyish in comparison with the bed cover. window is facing the other building wall. i checked out after 10hours. my back ache from the bed. the only good about this place, the receptionist is very well manner and responsive. other than this, its time to upgrade the hotel please.

• Michael Steen (2/5): Not satisfactory!! - I know these are COVID-19 times, but I would like to be informed before I check in to a hotel if it is used for healthcare workers dealing with COVID-19. Secondly, the cleaning service is very bad. Only every second or third day. Lastly, I had very noisy neighbours (which of cause is not the fault of the hotel), but overall not a good experience. Location of hotel is good though.

• Ana Maria (4/5): Loud cleaning staff and bad condition of rooms - Very good location of the hotel, good reception customer service, unfortunately the low price matches the conditions - there was mold in the bathroom, very very noisy as the cleaning ladies were yelling and laughing out loud every morning, despite our complaints. Very small pool, no view from the 3rd floor, lots of drain flies on the walls...unfortunately would not recommend and would never stay there again!

• LI HUA (2/5): Horrible - Do Not Attempt! - Horrible. 1) Dirty - Bathrooms with dirty/spoiled hardware strewn around (bathtub stopper, plastic nozzles). Musky smelling towels. Dirty Carpets. Dirty linen made us get all itchy and got bitten by something - after a week the swell is still there 2) Gave away our room to someone else after we arrived one-day late for check-in. We paid 4 nights in advance and only was late for 1 day. Did not have the courtesy to call us to check if we're coming, just take for granted we will not turn up. Gave us an "upgrade" but we had to check out/move rooms in the morning when we were rushing to go to our appointment. 3) NO Extra Towels! Towels were musky so after using the first one, I decided to swap to the 2nd dry towel (which turned out to be musky as well). Requested for another one as my partner had to shower. They did not have any left! Asked us to go get one from the pool ourselves. Turns out pool towels were faded green colour with bleached out patches. Gross 4) Only 1 access card, and need that card to activate power in the room. So when my partner went to get the said pool towels, i was awaiting pitch dark in the room. 5) WIFI was not working when we arrived and receptionist curtly told us "dont know when will get fixed". Did not even bother to inform us when we checked in - just gave us the WIFI password chit. Fortunately it was fixed after several hours. Cannot believe Singapore can have a bad hotel like this! What a shame!
• Jeremiah (6/5): Budget Hotel at a great location - It's a typical old style hotel, old spring mattresses, small rooms, old appliances, outdated toilets, overall it would be what you expect for a budget hotel. The staff are nice and accommodating, and the best feature of the hotel is it's location and accessibility.
• Vladimir (2/5): - Staff is not friendly - both Kim and Joseph I surprise, how they communicating with peoples!!! Management must pay attention. Hotel is old. Mattress is in worse condition, very pour wifi reception. Overall horrible place, next time will choice next door hotel at Bencoolen.

He also allowed us to leave our things at storage until check in time. The hotel let us check in 2 hours early as our room was ready. The room was small for 3 people and not much room to move around and not able to open the suitcase at the same time and not much storage. No full length mirror! The room was tired looking and the place could do with a refurbishment. My room was awfully noisey due to a big generator right outside my window and a loud air con making it difficult to sleep. The view I had was of a brick wall. Overall did the job of a room to sleep in at night. The reception staff were dull
• Edward (4/5): Needs to clean - Hotel is old. Carpets in both rooms dirty. The first room had stained carpet and garbage around the garbage can, hair in the bathtub. I called down and the front desk came up to “investigate” the room. She took pictures and gave us another room. The other room wasn’t much better. The carpets look and felt dirty. The caulking around the tub was spotted with mold, the tiles in the shower had mole in the grout even the shower curtain had mold. The towels were well worn and grey. The room itself smelt musty. Don’t stay at this hotel. The hotel needs to CLEAN, the only good things are the hotel is across the street from the MRT, the bell staff were very friendly.
• Lai (6/5): - You only get 1 key to your room. Extra charge $10 for key. We also found bed bug on our last 2 day of our stay. Maybe it got attach to our bed sheet. Location is great. You can take their subway which is just around the corner. There is also a good court near the subway station.

However, you can tell that the condition is the room is a bit rundown. The aircond blow directly towards the bed, which made me unable to sleep. The power socket also designed and placed at weird location. My room is next to the staff service room, was quite noisy throughout as the services ladies keep talking loudly outside. They have small gym and pool.

Uncles at the front desk are very generous with helping, from storing bags to recommending foods. Room is decent-sized with amenities, good coffee and milk tea. Cleanliness can be improved. Wifi is provided for up to 6 devices, which is sufficient. Overall recommended.
