• Jane (8/5): - The Scarlet does not live up to the website photographs. It is in need of new carpet and a complete redecoration. It looks very tired in places. The room was not always cleaned carefully. The opaque door between bathroom and bedroom was covered in splash marks and fingerprints throughout our stay. I don’t think it was ever cleaned. The glasses in the room were not very clean either. The room safe jammed on us twice meaning we had to wait for an engineer to come and fix it. The bed was very comfortable as was the room temperature. The complimentary minibar was very welcome. Beer, soft drinks,chocolate, nuts, water etc all replenished daily. Tea and coffee making facilities were welcome too. Fruit and snacks are available at reception free of charge too. So, it has good points and bad. The staff make up for its issues to some degree. But it is in a good location for almost everything in Singapore. It just needs a refurbishment for it to live up to it’s 4 star billing. It is in a good location for Chinatown and the MRT, meaning you can get to the sights easily. The staff are excellent and do whatever they can to help. The rooftop bar is expensive, better value and more authentic dining options are a walk away.

The rail system is very easy to use and cost very little too. The Hawker food market is just across the road. Great street food at excellent prices and a good vibe. I would recommend this hotel
• James (10/5): The Scarlet is an excellent choice in Singapore. - The Scarlet is an excellent hotel. The rooms are nicely furnished, and the free minibar was an added bonus. The staff was efficient and more than accommodating. The location is good…located right next to a Hawkers’ market…which made finding food easy. The only issue we had was that the rooftop bar (part of the reason we booked The Scarlet) was not available to us our first night due to a private function. Additionally, the hot tub is undergoing maintenance and was closed. We were not advised about the unavailability of both of these when we made the reservation. I would recommend The Scarlet as a place to stay in Singapore. The hotel layout is quirky and harkens back to days gone by.

• Jim (8/5): - The location is excellent, in the heart of bustling Chinatown. There is a MRT train station less than a block away for super easy access to all of Singapore. Staff are friendly and helpful. You are welcomed with a cold towel and water when arriving Property is boutique and cute. Many restaurants and coffee shop’s within walking distance. We had room 304, an Executive Room with balcony. Room size was on the small side, we still had room for our bags. There is a safe in the room. There was a good size balcony with table and 2 chairs. There were complimentary mini bar items. The shower was basic, with only a single handheld shower head. All other hotels on our trip had rain showers. The room was too bright at night, with much outside light from the bathroom that you could not block out due to the opaque glass bathroom Door. There are decorative lights on the balcony that can’t be turned off. You’ll need a sleep mask in room 304.

The room was small but just fine for a couple of nights. My sister recommend this hotel to me last year as they enjoyed and I would recommend too - if you are looking for a small friendly boutique hotel.

• Sian (8/5): GREAT LOCATION - Stayed for 3 nights. The hotel is in an excellent location for Chinatown, easy transport links via Maxwell MRT, Chinatown or Tanjong Pagar MRT'S. Maxwell Hawker Centre a minute walk away for food. Great little rooftop bar open from 5 pm. It's a quirky little hotel, corridors are like a rabbit warren. We were at room 240, no view, at the back of the hotel, but adequate enough with super comfy bed and complimentary mini bar/snacks I would definitely stay here again.

• Susan (10/5): - This was the best choice of the trip! The location was ideal for Chinatown and very near the bus stop, as well as as lovely breakfast spots. Checkin to leave bags was a breeze early in the AM and I returned late evening to find the bags were in my room. The free gifts in the room were numerous and incredible! A bottle of wine, refrigerator full of snacks and drinks, lovely tote bag, toothbrushes, endless bottles of water, and more. This is the most unique boutique hotel with character I have ever stayed in, but I understand renovations will begin April 2025 through the fall... hoping it keeps that old-timey feel. I travel solo and felt safe everywhere. Highly recommend room 236 at the end of the row. I read that some rooms do not have windows but this one did. Very comfortable.

• Pamela (8/5): A different kind of vibe - a unique experience - Wonderful boutique hotel very close to Chinatown and the Hawker food center and the Maxwell MRT station is less than a block away...excellent location for an tourist! The staff was excellent...very helpful in every way possible! The snacks in the lobby and mini-bar (free) were a very pleasant and appreciated treat. As many other reviews will tell you, the rooms are small and they don't all have windows (we had a very small skylight)...but you don't come to Singapore to sit in your room! The bathroom was very spacious and comfortably appointed, including the provided toiletries. Overall, the charm and location of the Scarlet Hotel is the main draw. The art deco decor is a nice change from the big box hotels. It was a very relaxing stay and the rooftop bar was an added bonus with a view after a long day of sightseeing.

• Christopher (10/5): I will stay again - For a boutique style hotel - the Scarlet is really good. The staff was friendly and accommodating - late check out approved without any hassle. The bed was firm, which gave me a perfect sleep. My accommodation included a free mini bar, which was really nice. Lots of restaurants, nightlife and Chinatown within walking distance. If you are looking for a nice place to stay, without the fuss - this is it.

• Penelope (10/5): A pleasure for the senses! - This was the most enjoyment I've had an hotel in years. The Scarlet is striking and opulent with clever, intimate lighting. Bed and bedding were very comfortable. I was allowed to check in a couple of hours early without an extra charge. Mini-bar is free and restocked daily.

• Catherine (8/5): - This property is in a great location and a 3 minute walk to Maxwell MRT station and Chinatown. Lots of food and restaurants around and the convenience stores are well located. The only issue is there is too much noise on the street which is echoed into the Suite that we stayed in. The suite windows were located at the front of the hotel almost on the corner so we could hear people talking, cars driving, and construction across the road. Double glazing windows may be an option for this Lavish suite . Not sure what the other rooms were like. It has a rooftop bar which was great but no food. Overall great location and nice hotel.

For coffee afficiandoes, try the Maxi Coffee House a short walk around the corner from the hotel. Would definitely stay again.

• Darine (2/5): - I left a syringe of insulin inside the refrigerator in aluminum foil. the hotel was called within a matter of hours. I was told that the syringe was balled up in aluminum foil and discarded. How irresponsible. I had to go to the hospital for insulin.

• Ross (6/5): A Bit Disappointing. - Been to this property before. We were given a room with twin beds when I had requested a Queen Bed. Nothing mentioned at check in. Not sure if we were judged to have single beds. Wanted both passports which is fine but I have no idea why my partner had to sign check in form when booking was in my name solely. More training & customer relations training required.

• Elizabeth (10/5): - Great location for moving around Singapore. MRT 3 minutes away and gave us access to wherever we wanted to go. Close to China Town - always felt safe. Loved this hotel. We had a room with no windows which was perfect for us - we had the best sleeps and most of our time was spent being out and about. Great service, some nice touches such as free minibar and snacks plus toiletries, helpful as I forgot my toothbrush. Our room was clean and cleaned daily to a high standard. Reception staff welcoming and helpful. Definitely a great place to stay if you’re going out and about.

• Stanislaw (10/5): A comfortable and friendly hotel - A wonderful stay at a very comfortable and quirky hotel, ideally placed near Chinatown and the Maxwell Street hawker market as well as a new MRT station. The staff were very friendly and helpful and could not have been more accommodating. Will happily stay again.
• Tai (10/5): - Great location but could be noisy in the early evening hours. Close to train stations and Chinatown. Walking distance to many Food Centers. This is a pretty old hotel but reasonably clean and the hotel rate is fair for Singapore. The staffs are friendly. The complementary in room bar is stocked daily with snacks and drinks including beer. There’s even fresh fruits in the hotel lobby.
• dennis (6/5): Strange place - It was good location but strange place, very noisy at night until we found out roof top bar was above us. Not one staff member told us there was even a bar there. Would have been nice to know what facilities were available.
• Pichet (10/5): Lovely Scarlet - I've loved the neighborhood for a very long time since I was a Singapore resident 30 years ago. A lot has changed, but the location has become central and very convenient for any kind of travel with MRT, busses, and easy to get taxi or just walking to all of the best restaurants attractions nearby. Beyond that, the hotel is lovely in every way, from restoration of its heritage architecture, the updating of modern functions, and the plush European style furniture that was appropriate for the colonial setting of the period. It is even easy for wheelchair accessibility with ramp and large bathroom. Staff is very helpful, friendly, and informative, from front desk to housekeeping. A little maintenance in details may be due in our room, but mini bar is complimentary, bed is comfortable, and all the streets surrounding the property is wonderful!

They finally gave us what we agreed after promising to give them a good review, which my daughter did. The room was clean but small. All amenities were replenished daily. The staffs were friendly and courteous. The hotel is right next to the subway TL-18 station and Maxwell food court, very convenient. There was a long small hallway leading to our room make me wonder if fire was to break out in the hallway how do people in all the rooms without window escape.

• Kinga (10/5): Great location, right in the heart of Chinatown - I stayed one night here during a longer layover. The location is great, close to MRT and if you like to walk, it's at a walkable distance to all main attractions in Singapore. The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was very comfy. Also their mini bar is free and very well stocked!

• amanda (4/5): - The location and style of this hotel is convenient and unique. But the interior needs refreshed. I unfortunately got a room that smelled like sewage and the hotel was sold out and I could not be moved so they came to spray air freshener. (Which didn’t work)

Entrance to the breakfast restaurant appears to take you almost into the kitchen. . Several "under maintenance " signs (e.g. fountain area on 2nd floor outside) appear to have been there for a long, long time. Room was clean and comfortable, although there was a lot of street noise. French doors leading to "balcony" don't fit tughtly, so sound rolls in. Balcony looks out on a parking garage - not conducive to sipping one's morning coffee while planning your day in Singapore.
• Martin (10/5): - The hotel is conveniently located next to Maxwell food center and less than five minutes from China town with great shopping and hawker stalls. The hotel offers many amenities with such simple things as water and snack that other hotels often charge for.
• Susan (6/5): - The hotel is well located, next to a metro station and Chinatown. Be warned - the executive room is really small . We couldn't lay both open suitcases on the floor. If you have a room on the street side, take ear plugs. Staff were charming and helpful though.
• Ed (2/5): poor communication - Sadly there was a problem with my reservation (likely my fault). Much worse was that the front desk staff said it would not be a problem to amend the reservation, but the hotel did not honor that, so I ended up paying far too much. Quite possibly just a failure of communication, but left a very poor taste in the mouth and I won't be back.

• Julius (10/5): Great Hotel - Location is awesome. Middle of many excellent local eateries. Transportation is easy and area is great. Hotel room is a little small but it has everything. They even provide a bottle of wine on top of other complimentary drinks and snacks!
• Keith (10/5): - I give this hotel 5 stars however we stayed here twice and the room we got our first stay was significantly better than the second stay and we reserved the exact same style room. I think comfort and enjoyment will be dependent on what room you get. This hotel is in Chinatown which is great for culture and hawkers. It’s a 2 min walk to Maxwell hawker which we spent each night at. The roof top bar is awesome the view is fantastic.
• Justin (10/5): - I’d rather not share how great this place is and I’d like to keep it a secret! Lovely staff. Free minibar. Welcome bottle of wine, Beautiful and spotless room in a gorgeous building moments from Chinatown, Maxwell Hawker Centre, The MRT and so central. Wonderful.
