Guest Reviews
- karenpI65WB (4/5): Good for sleep and shower - The hotel is fine if you’re looking for basic accommodation to sleep and shower. I don’t recommend paying for the all inclusive package as the drinks were watered down and the food was not good. The room was very basic. Internet was not good. Service was okay. Keycard wouldn’t open the door some days, hotel was run down, ants in the room, etc.
- nikkijradford (2/5): DO NOT BOOK PLEASE - This is an honest and true impact of what this hotel is really like. After careful thought I feel it is necessary to inform you of the deeply upsetting, isolating, falsely advertised, and expensive holiday experience I endured.
This holiday has not only ruined my time away but also severely affected my Christmas, New Year, and most importantly my mental health.
I am a 52-year-old white British female who travels alone and has done so many times previously through Love Holidays without issue.
Total Cost Paid: £2,748.91 (plus additional hotel taxes and VISITAX on arrival, which was never checked)
1. Nexus Transfer – Arrival Experience
Upon arrival in Mexico, I approached the Nexus transfer desk. I was told to wait, after which two staff members walked away, leaving me standing alone. Approximately half an hour later, a female staff member approached me and very rudely told me to “just wait” when I politely asked why.
When I calmly asked for her name, she placed her right hand on my arm, covered her name badge with her left hand, and said, “I’m not giving you my name so you can make me lose my job.” This was never my intention. I was alone, in a foreign country, unable to speak the language, and felt extremely intimidated and frightened. She then walked away, leaving me crying and wanting to leave.
About an hour later, a man approached me shouting, “Here, here is your taxi.” I was visibly shaking and crying, and even the taxi driver repeatedly asked if I was okay.
Retune pick up was late by 30 minutes, only one other couple picked up after me, none before
2. Hotel Check-In
Upon arrival at the hotel, the receptionist, who did not speak English, shouted instructions at me regarding payments, cards, and room details in an aggressive and unwelcoming manner. Her attitude was unnecessary, hurtful, and made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome from the outset. Give paper to sign and to be honest don’t know what I signed
3. Room & Hotel Condition Issues
Throughout my 11-night stay, I experienced the following issues:
Dirty floors that were never cleaned once
Sliding balcony door extremely difficult to open and close, requiring two hands
A makeshift and unsafe balcony lock
No balcony light, making it unusable at night
No suitable place to dry wet swimwear or towels, causing the bathroom to smell (unable to leave clothing on balcony)
Dirty marks all over the fridge door, never cleaned
Hairdryer advertised but not provided
Television unusable unless connected to the internet (not advertised)
Gym not advertised; repeatedly asked reception over 5 days how to use it and whether a card was required, then gave up
Each interaction with reception was met with eye-rolling, dirty looks, and staff walking away without answering
This behaviour made me feel scared, worried, stupid for choosing this hotel, and deeply uncomfortable thought my stay
4. Restaurant Treatment & Food Issues
I was shouted at by the same female restaurant staff member on multiple occasions for what I was wearing, despite wearing the same cover-up for several days without issue previously.
On one evening, when attempting to sit down, she shouted “No, no, you can’t!” When I politely asked where I could sit, she pointed outside. I placed my plate down, with all eyes on me, and began crying from embarrassment before walking out without eating.
As a result:
I did not eat breakfast on 4 out of 11 days
I missed lunch on 6 out of 11 days
I missed multiple evening meals
Checked out at 12pm on the 11th day and unable to eat or drink as banded is taken
5. Misleading Advertising & Lack of Support
Advertised swim-up bar did not exist
Advertised infinity pool was not working
No Love Holidays representative on site (wasn’t aware of this when booking holiday)
Unable to book excursions due to language barriers
Staff did not speak English
Google Translate was ineffective
I felt completely isolated and unsupported
Pool side snack bar offered chips, hotdog, pizza and one other hot dog only, everything else had to be purchased, and only 2 soft drinks available. Not available all day as advised 12pn to 6pm (all food served cold) nothing was advertised in English; there was a bit of paper with photos
Never offered any form of active as advertised, no table tennis table, no aqua fit session supplied, no aerobic classes as advertised online
Online hotel is advertised as a four star, nowhere near that level
No sandy beach (full of seaweed) only 8 beds on beach that could be used
In 11 days, there was only 4 nights of entertainment, and they were either Spanish singers or Mexican singers
· I spent most of my holiday alone in my room or by the pool for short periods
· Min bar advertised online, no mini bar in room, there were x 2 bottles of complimentary water, then you had to buy bottles of water as not supplied though out the holiday, could only fill up a cup when the restaurant was open
· Café advertised online, no café on site apart from a mini shop
· Two restaurants on site advertised again, only saw and eat in one
· Only one dining room option not two as again advertised online
6. Meeting with Hotel Manager
On New Year’s Eve, I waited 2.5 hours in reception to speak with the hotel manager. The meeting lasted approximately 10 minutes. When I raised my concerns, his response was simply, “What can I do?” which was deeply disappointing.
I told him the hotel needs to be truthful when advertising and that this hotel is not suitable for English-speaking guests. I firmly believe there is discrimination towards anyone who speaks English. He said he would to my holiday rep and get back to me, two days later walked past me twice and never address anything with me
Impact on My Wellbeing
I spent this holiday feeling:
Unhappy
Isolated
Intimidated
Victimised
Embarrassed
Ashamed
Hurt
Disappointed
The emotional impact has continued since returning home. I am struggling to talk to friends, family, or work colleagues about the distressing and embarrassing experience I endured.
- anetadB8200SN (8/5): Family holiday - Upon arrival at the hotel, my initial impression was one of uncertainty. Due to the rain, towels had been placed on the floor in the reception area, and we were not greeted immediately. However, this was understandable as we were waiting in a queue.
When we reached the reception desk, the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Although their English was limited, communication was not an issue, as we were able to understand each other using translators and body language. The reception team were helpful and consistently professional, always greeting guests with warm smiles.
There were six of us travelling together. Upon entering our room, we were pleasantly surprised by how clean and spacious it was. The room featured a balcony with beautiful views, and the bed was extremely comfortable. Housekeeping services were provided daily, and upon request, a kettle was delivered to the room along with coffee, cups, and all necessary amenities.
Breakfast offered limited variety. Guests expecting a traditional continental breakfast with items such as cheese, salami, or ham may be disappointed. That said, the omelettes prepared at the egg station were very good. Breakfast service begins at 7:30 am, though the omelette and egg station does not open until 8:15 am, which we found somewhat unusual.
Lunch and dinner options were satisfactory, and it was always possible to find something suitable to eat. This is not a five-star property, and the experience reflects the value paid.
Guests who wish to swim in the sea should note that this hotel may not be ideal for that purpose. Although the hotel has a small beach area, it is often affected by seaweed and is not particularly inviting for swimming. For those seeking a better beach experience, I would recommend visiting the beaches near the Coco Bongo area, where the coastline is beautiful and the sea is far more appealing.
It is also important to note that the hotel is quite old and appears somewhat tired in places. Guests should manage their expectations accordingly, as this property does not reflect a four- or five-star standard. In my opinion, it is more in line with a three-star hotel.
Guests who smoke should be aware that this is a smoke-free hotel. Smoking is not permitted around the swimming pool or on room balconies. This policy would benefit from being more clearly communicated by travel companies prior to arrival.
Although we are still currently staying at the hotel, our experience so far has been enjoyable. The entertainment team and hotel staff consistently go above and beyond to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. They work long hours and remain friendly and attentive at all times, which is truly commendable.
- krestaa (4/5): Don’t go - This is not a 4 star hotel, this is a 1star . If you are British don’t come here because no one speaks English I suppose you get what you pay for though as it was cheaper than other hotels. Food was ok but not a big variety, waiter staff were friendly. Room was clean but basic , can’t have a cup of coffee unless you are sat in the restaurant. Next to no entertainment so be prepared to spend money for days out and excursions because you will get very bored staying in the hotel. WiFi is very poor and no swim up bar as advertised. Beach is right outside the hotel but very limited loungers and space and due to pool and beach locations you get very little sun as you are always in the shade. My advise is spend that little bit more on a different hotel because you will end up spending a lot more trying to get away from this hotel on days out and better food .
- 649nikkis (2/5): Bad don’t go - Do not book this hotel especially if your from the UK no one speaks English . This is definitely not a 4* hotel more like a 1*. I’m not a fussy person but I must have to admit this in hotel was one of the worst I have ever stayed in. When we arrived I just thought the pictures look different to what had been advertised. The food well what can I say we must of gone down for breakfast at least 3 times out of the 14 nights yes 14 nights . We could only eat stale bread in the two slice toaster because everything else was in edible . We went to dinner once but I had to come back out it was that bad. On an evening we didn’t even bother getting dressed up because no one else did my 16 year old daughter took lots of nice things but couldn’t wear them . Everytime we went to eat something we all just looked at each other. Because we where all inclusive they where no cooking facilities we had to go to the one and only strip that was near us for snacks like crisps and drinks because the food was horrible. The beach was no beach just full
Of seaweed and absolutely stunk . Hotel just falling apart . We went and got a bus a couple of times near coco bongos to have food. I had asked TUi if they could put us in an earlier flight to no avail this wasn’t anything to do with them the hotel was booked with someone else . If I wanted to leave the hotel early we wouldn’t have got any money back and because we had already paid for our 2 week stay already we had to stay . 24 hours before was due to go home I what’s app the reception because they couldn’t understand anything I said and asked if my transfer has been in touch and if they could ring them because It would not let
Me download the Nexus app and they replied with no we can’t do that for you . All our clothes was damp and the full room was
Damp . Here are the attached photos also don’t let the food photos that you see on the hotels page because they are all fee I never saw any chicken nuggets or fresh prawns . Here is my fine dining experience showed in these two photos .
- Hadabah (2/5): Dirty hole - On arrival we were very disappointed with hotel, paint peeling off the outside of the hotel
We had ocean view room, very basic but clean,
We went to the restaurant on several meal times but very disappointed with presentation of the buffet, the food was uncovered and not hot, on one evening there was 1 serving spoon per 3 different dishes, when we asked for some tongs to try the noodles, we were given napkins told to wipe tongs after use, ready for next guest, have pics to prove this
The cleanliness of the whole hotel is appalling, health and safety not good, dirty band aid on pool side was there for a few days, also bread in the pool a few days which festered, pics to prove,
Also this hotel advertised,2 restaurants and snack bar,
Was not informed dogs are welcome into restaurant, sorry didn't get pics
So in some area I was sneezing and coffin
This is not a 4star, and does not have 4 star facilities
Accused people of smoking in room and tried to find them, even a non smokers who was threatened with police was so scared she paid the fine
Best thing about this hotel is to avoid
- Micht507 (2/5): Terrible don’t go - Horrible hotel, rooms basic no hairdryer no kettle hallways dirty even the doors don’t match rubbish left out on the balconies in full view . Food I wouldn’t even feed my dog burgers Cardboard and we w
Were given four fries ! Was told it was 4 Star superior but it’s a one if that. The staff was nice but no one really Speaks English. We gave the reception of passports to put in the safe and they didn’t put them in the safe. They got lost. We ended up finding them just stuffed by the reception.. we stayed 1 night got up first thing and booked another hotel im so angry with the people that sold us the Holiday!
- 871keeley (2/5): AVOID - Do not stay here it’s worse hotel I have ever stayed in
No kids club
No entertainment
Food makes you incredibly poorly
No kettle in room
No hairdryer
No mini bar
No salute tv
No babysitting service
No spa
It’s rubbish we hate it all of us are fed up
- donna (6/5): - Is definitely a 2 . Nothing to get excited over. It is like you think it could be for 2.5 hotel. All inclusive means cheap food, cheap food.
- 672timead (2/5): Horrible experience - Do not book this hotel. Bugs on the walls, stains on the floor and the bedsheet, rust on the shower head and the staff does not speak english at all. The food is bland and gave me food poisoining. We booked this for 8 nights and only stayed the first as we arrived late in the night and checked out in the morning. Horrible, would not recommend.
- Maria (6/5): - Clean rooms. They did not turn property lights on at night indoors and outdoors.
- Clark (4/5): - I had high hopes for my stay at this "exclusive" hotel in Cancun, but unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The bath towels in our room were stained and dingy, almost grey in color, which was quite off-putting. The breakfast was another letdown—they served Tang, not even real orange juice, which seemed very cheap for a supposed upscale hotel.
I had informed the hotel in advance that my husband would be arriving a day later than me, yet they refused him entry into the room when he arrived, causing unnecessary hassle. The rooms were clean, but that doesn't make up for the overall lack of attention to detail.
In the evening, there was a show by the pool, but the area was poorly lit and looked downright eerie. It wasn’t inviting at all and felt unsafe walking around. Overall, I expected much better from a hotel in this price range and location. It was far from the relaxing experience we were hoping for. Would not recommend.
- 388tywanas (10/5): Inclusive and Affordable - Don’t let the exterior fool you. This has been an incredible experience for a solo trip to Cancun. The staff are overly friendly and helpful. Drinks were great and food wasn’t so bad… I stuck to what I know works for me! My only recommendation would be to upgrade the shower heads and then invite me back with a free night stay 😀.
- josu_d880 (2/5): Terrible service - Awful services, filthy facilities, lack of maintenance, very low quality, there isn’t a bell person at night. They sold us a cab service but they didn't give us the service, they’ve a terrible administration, water leak in the toilet, ant nest in the room, very uncomfortable pillow, everything stinks pillows, sheets, blankets, towels,
- Michael (2/5): - For English speaking people, this is not your place. I wouldn’t go back, that is why we left after one night and stayed elsewhere
- Sachin (2/5): - This place is a dump. End of story.
- Glenroy (2/5): - The hotel staff made the check in and entire stay experience as if they were doing me a favor by allowing me to stay there without realizing I am the customer and choose to stay there and paid to stay there. Their hotel rules for such a mediocre property and limited everything around it is not fitting or up to standard. I will say though, I was given a free upgrade which I appreciated because the initial room was less than desirable. On my second night, the room was leaking water coming from the roof and no one spoke English to of assistance, no manager was also available. The hotel balcony door did not have proper lock, however they made you sign a waiver at the counter to release them from liability in case your room was broken into
- Daniel (2/5): - Nothing. It was the worst place I stayed at. I booked another resort the next day!!!!
- Manprit (8/5): - In a good area.
- Ashley Breanne (10/5): - It was wonderful! The staff were very helpful and kind, the room was very clean and the pool was beautiful. The food was also great with lots of options!
- genaro ochoa (4/5): - I wasn’t happy with everything
- Steven (4/5): - The basic property was okay. Room was clean- had a/c and a tv. However, no microwave, coffee maker , ice machines and a tiny elevator. Shower was a dribble of water and not very hot. Noisy pool area and hard to find lounge chairs.
- szayak (4/5): Expectations lead to disappointments - Immediate disappointment. Dirty, outdated, check in process was crazy. No microwave, no fridge, no room service, phone in the room didn’t even work to get front desk assistance. Barely warm shower, I do mean barely, very slippery shower, only 2 towels, and no wash cloths. Food was basically the same daily, not appealing or appetizing, so we chose delivery options. After you stood in line for at least a good 15 mins or so you were able to get 2 watered down drinks pp that we’re gone in 3 gulps, and they close at 10pm, not worth it! The beach, well don’t plan on getting in here. It’s covered in seaweed, sandbags, and it smells. The ONLY good thing was the fresh French fries you could get at the snack bar. Will not recommend this resort to anyone.
- cesar alonso (8/5): - It's in good area. easy for transportation. Not a very good hotel but it's aceptable .
- Maria de Lourdes (2/5): - Better communication between hotel and Expedia.
- 292tessac (2/5): YOU DON'T GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. - Sure, this place is super cheap for an all-inclusive....but read the title again. YOU DON'T EVEN GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. You could stay at a cheap hotel down the street and get a better value than you do here. Pictures look nothing like the real deal. Beach....what beach?! Two pools, both filthy. We even dubbed one of the pools as the "hair pool". The room is minimal. No fridge, microwave, hair dryer, or ice machine. Gym was closed, washer and dryer in building were out of service. The wifi only works in the lobby where there are sales people constantly harassing you. Literally will chase you down to try and sell you day trip deals. Most of the staff were rude and didn't speak much English. Other then the bartenders. They were cool. Shout out to Genner. He was the best and he worked his tail off. And we were the only ones who left him a tip! One bartender for a full house is ridiculous. The food was mediocre and little options. Had to get there early before it was all picked through. Needless to say, we spent most of our time away from the resort and even spent extra money on food and drinks away from the resort because it was that bad. I would never go back here and would highly recommend looking elsewhere if you are considering staying here. You'll spend a couple hundred extra dollars on food and drinks in other places anyways!
- Sandra (4/5): - The staff was very arrogant, the food small portions, no variety…. Beside I paid extra for a ocean view room and I got a room that I can’t even see the ocean.💔😔 I believe if people want to have a very nice vacation pay a little bit more dollars and get into better hotel, with more professional service…
- Serra (4/5): - The property was very disappointing. It was outdated. The beach was terrible. The meals were very bad. The only good thing was the staff. The staff was really nice and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It has beautiful beach and pools. Needs more staff to keep the Playa 1 area clean
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Few points, the wifi was terrifible, mostly native (local) or originated clients, only few people would speaks or understand fluently english, but other then that everything was fine. No Premium alcohols.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Need to improve room conditions and elevators, stares are not clearly marked second elevator broken.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - After reading so many negative reviews, I was pleasantly surprised at the overall quality of my experience. I recommend this Holiday Inn.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No towels, AC was not working and Hair blower but everything else was okay.
- Maureen (8/5): - This was a clean hotel, reasonable pricing and friendly staff. Great location to stay 😊
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good location. Friendly Staff. Beautiful beach and pool
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very poor Wifi. Shower unclean. Curtains very dirty
- Liliana (6/5): positive feedback of my stay - They allow pets which is great but they charge me at the hotel for my pet, which I thought, was included in the room fee.
Furniture is old and the sofa was stained. The room was not really clean (floor).
They were nice but nothing for free.
The buffet was nothing impressive. Regular simple.
They should offer more local seafood, fruits, options.
I would stay again as it has the little private beach and accepts pets but I would like this facility to be more comfortable and better cleaned.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Cleanliness of room , quantity of service - Use less hotel bathroom not cleaned no hot water staff is useless they talk rude will never stay in this hotel again
They should close down this hotel
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The beach was nice, service should’ve been much better as all holiday Inn hotels provide.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nightmare - It is incredible they called this place holiday inn, the service is very poor and they do not said that , we will be overcharge for almost anything
- Bryan (4/5): - Wifi was terrible, I had to book a really big room for 1 person only and no breakfast or food was included in a $160+ per night room.
Coffee tasted bad
**There was no hot water in the room.**, someone from maintenance tried to fix that and open the pipes to get hot water into my room to no avail.
Overall do not recommend go to the hotel next to it, its way better for 1/3 of the price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Worked well for us. - Not close to stores and restaurants. Bus system easy to use from Hotel. breakfast bar good. snack bar could improve staff very friendly and helpful. Shuttle van nice beach area small 2 nice pools
- Cruz (6/5): Pressured - Place was outdated
- Barbara O (6/5): - New staff poorly trained
- selene (8/5): Nice hotel bt the beach great location - We love their New Year dinner celebration, nice staff, great food, night show .we had a great time
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice and close to the beach, staff was friendly. - The staff was great and very warm - they tried to work with me as I don't understand Spanish very well.
- Andrew (8/5): Not exactly satisfied. - They didn't have shuttle service from the airport. Which I didn't like. But the service was good. I like their swimming pools, and The place it's beautiful, but the ocean water is greenish yellow, which I didn't like.
- Ruby (4/5): WiFi is Terrible - Almost impossible to get WiFi in your room. Had to go down to the lobby and even there it was choppy & extremely slow. Hotel staff said there was nothing they could do about it and that I should go to Walmart and buy a data card for my laptop.
They claim to give you free WiFi but they might as well not have it at all. If you will need a reliable internet connection during your trip don't stay at this hotel.
- Enrique H. (8/5): bad weather, but perfect vacations - friendly staff and good service
- Olga (6/5): Nice - They don't put enough towels we were 4 they gave us only 1 towel diary
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel has a beach, but it's not a nice one. Location is ok, not great.
- liem (10/5): - Nice friendly very convenient the bus, beach, downtown and prices.
I like it and in the future I would be come back enjoy
- Verified traveler (6/5): ok for stopover stay but not for long stay - The bed is like sleeping on a rock, the food is not appetizing at all, won't stay there again
- Adam (2/5): Not sure its worth your money... Horrid Management - I was impressed with the housekeeping staff. Top notch, did a fantastic job, and worked very hard. They even went so far as to make adorable animals every day from the towels. It was fun.
THE MANAGEMENT: So, lack of any communication by management. Rude at every turn. I understand there is a language barrier, but even with the nicest man of the bunch, if they didn't explicitly understand your question, they would begin to raise their voice, and give you glaring looks. It was not very welcoming. I was under the impression I had breakfast included with my visit.... apparently not. I found this out as the staff chased me down, screaming, and rudely making me follow, acting like I was some sort of prisoner, to pay the charged $10 USD tab for eating some scrambled eggs. There was just glares, and a generally unwelcoming attitude. I will never ever recommend nor stay at this hotel again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Outdated and rundown hotel in Cancun - The hotel is in need of a serious renovation. Mold in the bathroom, chipped paint, broken furniture, windows that leak air everywhere, noise coming from the bar next to the property...Karaoke night every night = people yelling at the tune of Mariachi music until midnight.
Don't let the "next to the ocean" location fool you, if you are looking for a resort like experience...look somewhere else, let me re-phrase it...look anywhere else but here. The beach front is 12 feet wide (I am being generous), covered on weeds, zero waves and dirty. The pool is small and dated, the bar next to the pool needs more variety. The lobby is terribly small with one (1) sad couch that has seen better days. The hotel bar has a very limited offer, but the bartender was very nice.
If for some reason you decide to book a night here, and like me ignore all the reviews thinking "it can't be that bad" please be prepared and bring your own towels. Our bathroom only had one towel, and every single day of our stay (wife and myself) I either had to call the front desk or go to the front desk to request and additional towel. At one time the lady at the reception actually asked why I needed an extra towel...really? 2 people sharing one towel? You also need to be an animal lover to book in this hotel. I counted 3 ant trails in my room.
It is inexpensive with cheap quality on services and facilities. If all you want is a place to spend the night a step up a hostal, then book here. I Learned the hard way!
- Freddie (2/5): - This Hotel was not what it was advertised as.
No bath towels
Bad smell
Limited hot water
- Pip (10/5): We loved our room over the playa! - Beautiful beach right on the doorstep, views from the room. Away from the noise of the party zone
- Alberto (6/5): Not for businesses - Hotel is not for business.
Is definitely an economy option for family stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR - basically - you get what you pay for - Nothing Special about this hotel at all!
Facility was old, small beach/swimming area, pool was outdated
- Verified traveler (8/5): Surprising - The hotel was nice. The activities, dinner show, and buffet were nice also and more than we expected at times. The staff was nice, and only a few spoke English. When I called downstairs with a question, I had to wait each time for someone who spoke English to come to the phone, and one time they had no one that spoke English available. The staff bent over backwards to be accommodating however, with the exception of Herbierto, who works the front desk. He didn't speak any English and appeared unhappy or frustrated each time we saw him. My husband thought maybe Herbierto was just hot, because the lobby area does not have heat and it was very hot each time we ventured to the lobby. Leonardo, Fabiana in the dining area, Carlos in the dining area, and the two ladies who do massages, again, bent over backward to make certain that we were enjoying ourselves. They made every effort to make certain that we could be understood. The massages were great also. The staff in the dining area was exemplary! Our cups were always refilled timely, we were checked on often, and we were always greeted with a smile. We had no complaints about the dining staff! They were fabulous. Luis the life guard told us about places to visit, helped others understand our English and assisted us when we had an issue with paying for our massages (no fault of the ladies doing the massages).
- Mariluz (10/5): Nice hotel near the beach. - The breakfast was good, we enjoyed the stay, the staff was really nice. We enjoyed the boating at the beach, the towel staff brought us an elephant shaped towel which we liked very much. The food was amazing as well as their pools.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Holiday Out at this Holiday Inn - There's not enough parking spaces. You have to give the hotel "security" your car keys so they can move your car in case other people need to park as well. The front desk never answered any of our calls over the course of four days we were there. Housekeeping finally answered once after never leaving us towels. We had to switch rooms since the first room they put us in didn't have a working AC. Appreciated the room upgrade with ocean view. The hotel service stinks. No one smiled. No one greeted us. The front desk people rather answer the people and talk with the person on the phone rather than finishing up helping you, who is standing right in front of them. The ice machine did not work three of the four days we were there. No water in the gym. We informed the front desk. The day after there was still no water so we decided to stop using or asking for anything else, including never staying at another holiday inn.
- Ciro (6/5): Bad nights at the Arenas...... - The stay in Cancun was the best but, the hotel needs lots of help. The day we arrived we called the Lobby to report that it was hotter inside the room that it was outside. They sent someone right away to fix it and we were told it was a bad the thermostat and that they would replace it the following day. We were there 5 nights and it was bad it never got fixed and we were never offered a room change because hotel was full. I would ask about the thermostat and we were told "waiting for it to come in". I think it was ordered in China or something...
- Verified traveler (2/5): - There was no hot water for washing. And lunch was very ordinary ...
- Texas traveler (2/5): Worst stay ever! - Checked in 11 pm -A/C broken, took 90 minutes to get new room, no hot H2O. Staff was clueless,..Didn't offer free breakfast and tried to charge me more on check out.
- Third trip to C (4/5): Nothing close to a resort - If you just want somewhere to sleep, this is the spot. 89 minutes to check in. 30 minutes to check out. Key cards stopped working every other day. Bad food in restaurant. It was like a hotel you would find in New Jersey. I booked my trip at the last minute and the nicer resorts were full. This was a Holiday Inn, I thought "How bad could it be?" Never again. And it was the same price as the nicer resorts. And did I mention the thermostat cover that fell off every time I touched it?
- Glafira (10/5): Leisure - Hotel is clean comfortable service excellent. Nice location pool next to beach. The hotel offers different activities, bar service at the pool and evening shows. Perfect hotel. You have everything you need in one place!
- W (6/5): So so. - It's nice, except the location which is a bit far from the public beach and restaurants.
- Monica (8/5): Nice And complete 3 stars hotel - Charming Beach close to a pier in front of Isla Mujeres. We received a corner suite and view from the room was amazing. Room had all the amennities and was every day cleaned. Small parking but was solved by valet personal waiting for the arriving guests.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very good for price - Good and friendly service. Great place to relax, evenings are pretty calm here compare to other places which I like.
- Cdn travellers (6/5): Has pluses and minuses - Seemed like maids needed to be tipped first then they would do an adequate job. Front desk processes need serious refinement. Food was mediocre at best. We didn't eat there much. Beach and pool service was fantastic. Concierge service was very good. Room key quit working several times and there were always people with the same problem waiting at the front desk. Overall, doable but next time I'll stay somewhere else
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just for the night. - I would only stay at the Holiday Inn Arenas if you need a clean room to sleep. Short beach and fair pool.
- Jose G. (2/5): Horrible hotel - Hotel stay was horrible. Rooms dirty. Staff not friendly. A/C broke down on second day. No water on fourth day. Never again.
- Taquita Tails (8/5): Convenient location and beach - The hotel is located at the end of the hotel strip (zona hotelera) close to downtown. The staff is friendly and tries hard to help. The travel desk, which sells tours and other items, helps you even when not buying from them. The rooms are big and feature balaconies, so you can enjoy the evening or early mornings. The pool isn't that big, which isn't an issue, but lots of families come so it's often filled with kids. Beach is a few feet beyond the pool. It's safe to leave your belongings there and go to the beach as there are many other hotel guests there. Wifi was sufficient.
- luna (8/5): nice hotel - the hotel have beach and pool different restaurants and activities you can choose from european plan to all inclusive, they have kayaks that you can use for free and beach las perlas have a very calm water, the hotel are closer to downtown than the night clubs but you can take the bus without problem I didn't have any problem checking in or out, this was my first time booking through travelocity and I don't have any regrets, everything was smooth
- sarah (4/5): Full of Mexican families - This is a family hotel. Very noisy. The room I had booked wasn't available so I was given 2 queen size beds instead of one king. Food very average.
- Dave (8/5): Nice clean hotel with ocean view - Really enjoyed my visit only two comments....had to ask for towels twice one night.....would like to have light breakfast like HIExpress
- Thakoordyal S. (8/5): Beautiful hotel awesome view - Very friendly staff love the food if I have to go to vacum will visit the holiday inn
- notjustasweetvoice (6/5): Not a real ALL INCLUSIVE - The hotel was basically full of nationals. The buffet was extremely limited for the ones who do not eat pork. We were stuck with two queen size bed although we have requested a king bed as any other newly wed couple would. They charge me for a phone call even though it was due to an error on their part. The best part was having an ocean view room.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Did not respect my booking type - frustrated - Arrived at property to find out that the room type booked was not honored. Had booked a king size bed - they gave me two queens. GM had to transfer me to a room w/ a King size bed. However, they didn't change the information on my hotel profile so when I ordered room service, I could not charge to my room without having to go back to the front desk to give my credit card again.
To top off, the Internet was HORRIBLE! Could not connect.
Very frustrating experience.
- thomas (2/5): Tom from California - The staff here was terrible. I did not get the room l had reserved. No partial ocean view. No hot water for three days. No place to eat on premise's. This was a all inclusive hotel. Room service menu was a joke, did not even provide one in room. Noise was constant. Way overpriced for the money! And l am not difficult to please, l travel all over Mexico, and this was just a bad experience!
- Jose Luis Del Olmo (8/5): Excelent for bussines trip - Small beach, good buffet, good room price, about 15 usd by taxi to the bar´s area. 40 min. to airport
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not your typical Cancun Hotel - I was disappointed to see that this was just a plain hotel with no real perks and you really dont even feel like you are in Cancun. The pools were tiny and the beach was extremely small. You have to leave the hotel frequently to get to anything like nice beaches or restaurants. We went to other beaches in the area and restaurants and it was over $280 one way to get anywhere because of the location. The rooms smelled terrible. Some of the staff was friendly like the bell boys and maids but I was not pleased with the customer service of the front desk staff. Overall, I would never come back to this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): this was our second trip to this excellent hotel. - It was a great experience. We were here last year and both times was wonderful.
- gigi (4/5): Expensive hotel with a bad beach close to marina - To me was a very expensive hotel, they charge like 5 stars and it's not worth it for 3 stars. They allow pets but don't say how much is the charge, again ridicously expensive. The beach sucks cuz is very close to the marina, very dirty water, a shame
- CA94621 (8/5): Good Value - Clean and well appointed.
- Melissa (8/5): The facilities were great and the staff friendly - Our time in Cancun was awesome and the Holiday Inn Arenas was nice. I booked our trip last minute so we kind of 'got what we got ". Next time I will book something closer to the middle of Hotel Zone, only because everything is within walking distance. Holiday Inn is fine though if you are comfortable with the bus or taxis. It really is a personal preference.
- criss80 (2/5): bad, very bad - The best part of our experience with this hotel is the moment we checked out and knew we were leaving and not coming back here.
First lets start with the booking on this website. The reason we initially clicked on this hotel because it said that it is an all-inclusive deal. Needless to say IT WAS NOT. It also said that we had a Standard Room - Lagoon View or Tropical view with Terrace. I let the updated photo below show you the view we had; Two huge cement walls and in between you can see a small chunk of the sea.
One additional thing is the sunset cruise that this website is proudly promoting, as a free gift is you book with them. That thing is a joke. I really would expect a big name in travel agencies such as this one to know better, and avoid using cheap commercial stunts as such. That sunset cruise leaves after 8 PM. The sun sets in Cancun around 6 PM. Unlike what is advertised or mentioned in the small print, no dinner is provided under any condition, the free alcohol consists of beer and a limited amount of rum punch. If you do not believe me, look up sunset cruise Cancun on this website and read what they promise you and also make sure you check the beautiful sunset picture they show on they website. They do not give you any coupons for senor frog nor do they drop you at senor frog or anywhere near to restaurant area. It is just a 45 min cruise where gray line advertises they activities, encourages you to purchase their packages and most importantly asks you to tip them for this extraordinary cruise. They do pick you up at your hotel however they do not drop you back. Also there is a 5 USD docking fee each person has to pay before boarding.
Now back to the hotel. The people at the reception were friendly but the workers in the restaurant we really rude and only interested in getting as much tips as possible. First night we paid for a buffer dinner 23 USD for a mediocre pasta, lasagna and cold chicken and cheese pizza. I forgot about the salad, which consisted mainly of lettuce and more lettuce. Next morning we decided to take an a la carte breakfast. We ordered an American breakfast consisting of a juice, coffee, eggs and ham. The orange juice was more of like a fluorescent yellowish orange flavored (artificial flavor of course) water. The glass had lipstick stains on it and when I told the waiter about it he just nodded and smiled. He did not even offer to replace my glass! We got the bill and realized we were charged extra for the juice which was supposedly included in our meal. We left a little tip and that drove the waiter mad and he was rudely protesting about it to the receptionist (really? was I supposed to tip for having a dirty glass or for being charged extra for what was included in my meal). And did I mention I got sick after eating that breakfast? Now we went back to our room in order to pack and leave to the airport. The key of our room would not open (we had the same problem the day before). After going to the reception twice to reactivate the key we gave up and finally they sent a security guy to open our door. This whole commotion took about 45 minutes while we are stuck outside of our room and stressing out about packing and leaving for the airport. I had stayed in Few Holiday Inn hotels before and my experience ranged between good to very good. This one was a definite NEVER AGAIN. If you really want to enjoy Cancun and have a pleasant stay I strongly recommend to stay away of that place.
We finally came home and thought this ordeal was over. We checked our credit card statement only to realize that we double charged after our online reservation and later by the hotel upon our check-in. Now we are desperately try to reach out for a customer service representative to try to get our money back.
That was my first time booking on this website and most certainly the last.
- Jake (10/5): amazing staff - I really enjoyed my stay here the staff was amazing a big thanks to omar at the front desk thank you my (colorado) friend. I would highly reccommend this hotel to anyone the service is second to none.
- Verified traveler (4/5): A lot under expectations - Me and my wife chose the HI because we had a great experience in this hotel in Ecuador. However it was very dissapointing to reach and get a very bad service starting from the bellboy (nobody helped us with our bags) to the counter people (take a lot of time). We had to sleep in separated beds since there were not king bed as informed in the website and the queen beds are too small for two people. Hotel premises are not nice, the TV signal was terrible, not even one complimentary water and when asked for 1 additional hour for checking out, they asked for extra money per each additional hour of stay. The only good thing was the breakfast and nice attention from the people at the restaurant.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Holiday Inn Arenas, Cancun, MX - The Breakfast was good, the beach is very narrow, could not call long distance to the USA from my bedroom telephone, I had to go to the front desk and they had to dial for me, I could not listen to a dial tone at all. Very few Americans at the hotel. Accommodations were very good, clean, and the staff cannot do enough for you. The hotel is located far from everything.
- Richard (8/5): Long Weekend - It met our expectations
- Peluso (6/5): Cancún - Very nice if Youtube find it Smith discount. Prívate beach
- Ray (4/5): Hotel on the Beach - 2 night stay but unable to leave the room due to inclement weather.
- Juan Carlos (8/5): Affordable and good location! - Everything was good, I will go back again in the near future. The only thing I didn't like much was that WiFi is only for one person per room...
- Carumba (2/5): Threatened with violence in my room buy the Bar Staff - On arrival the name is more than deceptive "All Inclusive" Well it was nothing Included.Management don't even want to help you they just pretend to.on the final night one of the bar staff came to our room at 11:30 banged on the door wanting us to pay a 130 peso bill that wasn't even ours..We were asleep,my wife answered the door to tell the guy it wasn't our bill.He insisted it was and when my wife tried to close the door he tried to push the door back with force to enter the room.I had to get my P.J's and rub to the door to help her.He was looking for a fight but backed away when he knew I was too! The manger called and said "Pay the bill"I told him to call the police, I wanted to make a complaint .He said "I'm very sorry clam down and pay the bill!! Are you Kidding me.?. If I had felt safe in calling the Police I would have but as I was leaving the next day,we decided to just get the heck out of there and not look back. I am a Priority Club Member but after that I don't think I'll be staying at a H.I. for a long time…This is my first written complaint for any company!!
- Lesa (8/5): Nice quiet location, clean, Great Views - As expected for a Holiday Inn. Very Clean, fairly comfortable, great ocean view, quiet and family friendly. Close to downtown Cancun. Fantastic customer service. Food was good, but the hotel caters to mostly Mexican and Spanish cultures, (Northern South America). If you like the local vacation experience and speak Spanish, great. If you want a resort catering to English speaking or parting, you may want to stay closer to the other Hotel Zone Hotels. The shows were great. Food was good, but got a little tiring after 2 weeks. If you like local, authentic Mexican, You will love it.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Worst food I have ever eaten! - Really expensive for the all inclusive US$45 per day. The food wa awful and there was only 1 restaurant (buffet) out of 3 that was opened.
