- Sue (10/5): Had the best time, slept like a baby, ate like a king and the zoo experience was amazing - Bed was amazing, food was glorious, staff were super friendly & helpful Water pressure in shower
- Mitchell (10/5): Completely unbelievable and we will be back! - If you’re thinking about booking this- do yourself a favour and do it! Everything was UNBELIEVABLE! Great facilities, clean, beautiful views, great staff, great buffet breakfast!! 10/10! Nothing!
- marygY655FK (10/5): Taronga Zoo Retreat - It was an awesome experience seeing the Koalas outside our hotel sliding wide window. It's very relaxing staying 2 nights at the zoo, wandering around in a relax phase. Food at breakfast was great with view of the harbour.
- Leigh-Anne (10/5): -

- Robyn (10/5): Amazing, great memory. - Everything. We had a room looking at the Koalas. The rooms a very spacious, spotless and quiet. The staff are professional, polite and friendly. The Restaurant was outstanding, the food amazing and the view looking over to the Harbour and City breathtaking. Nothing
- tracey (8/5): Great place to visit - Great friendly staff Shower head came off hotel sorted
- 747normant (10/5): Elderly couple. - The whole stay was amazing. The views from our room were STUNNING, face to face with Koalas. We had dinner in the Restaurant, which was divine. Looking across from the Harbour and City was breathtaking. Everywhere the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. What a memory.
- Thapa (8/5): -
- YiXing (10/5): Excellent stay and will come back - We stayed at their retreat,it was extremely clean. We expected there to be bugs since it’s inside a zoo, but there wasn’t a single one. The room was well-equipped and comfortable, and when we opened the window, there were three little koalas right outside. So adorable! We liked it all
- Tessa (10/5): Great time - Everything None
- Tegan (10/5): -
- Sandy (9/5): Convenient little staycation - The staff were fantastic and we loved the guided tours. The me-gal restaurant was great too. It would have been nice to have had more time in the sanctuary but it’s okay and we understand the animals need their peace
- Murmarg (10/5): Something different - great experience - Had a great deal to stay a couple of nights with zoo access and extra talks & walks included. We were in a bushland room, overlooking the kangaroos. Keepers and volunteers were wonderful, always happy to answer questions. Staff at the retreat (except one night at the bar) went above and beyond being courteous and helpful. So nice to be able to checkout the zoo at a slower pace. Easy access to public transport. Wonderful harbour views from the restaurant, make sure you go up to rooftop for the best uninterrupted views. Would recommend staying here.
- Samoa (10/5): -
- Yen (10/5): Amazing retreat experience - The entire retreat ambience, being close to the animals in the sanctuary, especially the koalas was a once in a lifetime experience. Nothing. Everything was great for my stay.

- James Rayner (2/5): - The view. Every thing is way over priced.

Would not recomend.
- Robyne (10/5): - Nothing
- Khim (9/5): Exceptional stay. Family loved it. Staff were amazing - Great for my kid who loves animals Slightly far from town but it’s ok.
- Lodge1903 (4/5): Unfortunately poor service - The service did not match the cost unfortunately. The reception restaurant area was understaffed and my food was cold by the time my partners food came, and the table still wasn’t cleared from the last group. We tried to express our frustration, but were dismissed. Disappointing service here.
- Kathryn (8/5): -
- Zoe (8/5): -
- Dino (10/5): -
- Peter (9/5): Highly recommend! - Beautiful property and lovely staff! Very interesting and wonderful place to stay! Nothing
- Laura (10/5): Brilliant! Book it now! - Absolutely everything! This is a beautiful hotel with wonderful facilities and restaurant. The breakfast is top notch - coffee made as you like it and a full spread! It was unbelievable to wake up to a koala munching away on his leaves and the staff were all so accommodating and lovely. Worth the money many times over!
- hbhakh (10/5): Great stay - We had a very nice 1 night stay at the Wildlife Retreat. The lobby/lounge overlooks the zoo and has great views of Sydney. We arrived shortly before check in time and our room was ready. Our luggage was delivered promptly. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well appointed but slightly small. There was only 1 small mirror in the bathroom, which we found inconvenient and a little odd. Our room overlooked the wildlife retreat. There were several koalas right outside our window.
We had some time to explore the museum before our tour of the wildlife retreat. It was led by a zoo keeper who managed to show us a variety of its residents and provided explanation. Later, we took the evening tour of the zoo, also led by a zoo keeper. It was well done but there were a number of groups in the zoo with us, which caused some timing issues at a couple of the displays.
The onsite restaurant was excellent for dinner. Breakfast (included in the rate) was much more chaotic. It did not seem to have enough staff to keep up with tables for re-stocking the buffet.
- Scott (10/5): Excellent place to stay for animal lovers or anyone planning to visit Taronga Zoo. - The room was spacious, comfortable and well laid out, with an amazing view over native gardens and Sydney Harbour (with a little koala friend in the tree just off our balcony).
Dinner in the reception lounge was delicious and well priced. (Highly recommend the Chicken Pesto Pizza), and breakfast in Me-Gal restaurant was delicious, with amazing views over Sydney Harbour.
Staff, were friendly, helpful and very informative. I can't live there full time......
- Carlia (10/5): -
- Lynn (10/5): A wonderful and unique stay, which is highly recommended. -
- lishao (10/5): -
- Susan (8/5): -
- Cassandra (10/5): -
- Megan (10/5): We had a wonderful time at the Wildlife Retreat and have already recommended it to our family. - The view of the koala! The view of the city. The comfy bed. The facilities that had a view to the koala....wonderful! Good pressure in the shower and the heat of the hot water. Easy access to the lounge where the seats were comfortable and set out well. The lounge bar had a good food and drink menu. The service from the staff was professional, friendly, helpful and efficient at all times (except for when the alarm went off at 3am and no one was at the desk). We couldn't have had a better time, thank you! We couldn't understand why the tv was mounted the way it was on the wall. It would be so much better to have the lounge in the rooms be able to move so as to be front on the tv. It was very awkward. We watched tv sitting on the bed but that wasn't comfortable.
- Veronica (10/5): -
- Patrick (10/5): Great option for a short break - great location and very nice room. Beds a little hard for me but still ok. Included walk was very interesting and breakfast was very nice. Views from Restaurant are spectacular. Nothing
- Peter (10/5): Best experience ever - It was divine Not much
- Nicholas (10/5): -
- Y6802QJstevenb (4/5): Great venue but awful experience especially food - This is my second time staying at Taronga Zoo Retreat and I must say my 6 yr old son and I really enjoyed the stay both times and it has one of the best views of the harbour and the city. Absolutely love the lounge and a great place to just relax , have a drink and just enjoy the breathtaking view of the city.
However I feel the rooms are pretty basic for the rate but the reason why I gave a 2 star was because of the food quality at this venue. The Me-Gal restaurant food was so overpriced for a very average tasting and quality food. In my first visit we had both breakfast and dinner and the food was below average and had very limited options for kids and this time my roast chicken was undercooked and my 6yr old son’s pasta was more like an infant size meal not a kids meal.
We went for breakfast at 915am the next day and almost nothing was replenished and we felt like we were just eating the left overs. I didn’t see a single cook/chef to make hot food like scrambled eggs, pancakes etc and my 6 yr old son was quite disappointed as he was really looking forward to some pancakes/waffles but nothing was available except for some muffins, cold and hard croissant and danish pastry.
Even whatever that was there eggs, sausages, mushroom etc nothing was kept warm, everything was just cold.
Finally after spending some time at the zoo we came back to order some lunch at the lounge and it turned out their app had some issues and we were waiting for almost 45 minutes for our food and when I asked the bar staff to check on our order , he realised there was no order and he said they were having some issues with the table QR code app. So we waited for another 15 mins for our food to arrive only to be served overcooked and burnt kids chicken and chips and tastless and dry fried chicken burger.
This place needs to hire new chefs/cooks or don’t bother selling any food. Unfortunately there’s nothing available close to the venue so the only option is to order food from the hotel lounge and restaurant. I hope the managment will read this review and take some immediate action.
- markiC4905IX (10/5): If you get the opportunity to stay here, take it! - This was an absolute joy to stay here. Every morning the koalas were outside of our windows, doing their koala thing. You had special access to the zoom and it’s very close to Moseman and to the ferry port.
- F5374GQdanc (10/5): Must visit for the full package holiday - The bedrooms were immaculate and totally accomodating, the services were excellent and the overall value for money was very competitive for the accommodation costs. The styling and architecture equally was impressive as it blended into a wildlife sanctuary so important to our planet. Highly recommend.
- Beatriz (8/5): Memorable birthday vacation - Location, cleanliness and friendly staff Limited dining options.
- Joachim (10/5): - Traumhafte Lage!
- Lyndal (10/5): Great service, clean comfortable rooms kids loved everything. - Buffet breakfast was yummy, location great and staff so welcoming and friendly. Nothing to dislike
- Filip (6/5): Nice place not worth for a money paid. - Nice place near to the zoo. The place it’s overpriced generally speaking. Spot it’s nice however nothing spectacular, restaurant not worth single $. We have paid over 300$ for a dinner for four of us. Indeed nice view on Sydney however nothing worth to spend for food. Sanctuary very small with few animals around.
- Caroline (3/5): Would not recommend or stay again, not worth the price, food was very limited and extremely expensive - Views and access to zoo Very very expensive for rooms food and drink
Charges for evening and morning walks
- Natasha (10/5): Excellent. The best stay anywhere that I've had in a long time. Staff go above and beyond and the rooms are wonderfu - Wonderful service, excellent rooms and facilities, so close to the animals for a wonderful cause of contributing to the zoo's conservation efforts Nothing
- sharon (9/5): -
- sibecca93 (6/5): A little disappointing unfortunately - Has gone down hill since our first free visits. We come on our anniversary for a few years as love the animals and experience, but the room on ground level was not great with no animals to view, it was a little smelly and the breakfast was definitely not up to the usual levels for a hotel experience like this.
- Stevie (9/5): A very special location and experience with nature within an urban environment - Extraordinary location with the backdrop of Sydney Harbour. The resort has been beautifully and tastefully designed and feels like you are out of the city and nestled within the zoo. We enjoyed the included tours and loved the evening tour which was reasonably priced. So special to be able to be guided through the zoo after closing. Me Gal restaurant offers stunning views over the harbour with attentive and friendly staff. The furniture in the main guest arrivals / gathering area was a little grubby.
Breakfast was light on for quality gluten and dairy free options.
- George (10/5): We could not have scripted a better start to our stay in Sydney, it was like a firecracker start. - we stay in 332 and our room had viewing of the 3 male koala beers Eugene, and the two jules baxter and ??
What else needs to be said.
Currently US to AUS money made our trip very reasonable.
I was expecting a Corporate hotel staff and got a wonderful home staff, which was lovely, a bit gruff sometimes, but always homey and very much loved by me and my wife jo ann I am older and the walking got to me, but that's on me.
- Gregoria Rina (10/5): - Animal view room was exceptional. N/A
- Candice (10/5): Fantastic for the family. Must do the night tour. - Fantastic views of Sydney and the wildlife. Food wasn’t the best but still decent.
- Hilery (10/5): A close encounter with Australia’s amazing animals! - Proximity to animals without crowds with the opportunity to observe them outside your window without disturbing them. The animal view rooms were incredible, and the panoramic views of the common areas breathtaking! Even from the zoo, you can enjoy the animals with beautiful Sydney in the background. Thank you for a memorable experience! Everything was lovely!
- Nozomi (10/5): Highly recommend it - It was an amazing experience. The rest room was very smelly
- Warwick (7/5): - The outlook was amazing. Staff very attentive Bar food was overpriced and not that good. Had the pulled pork, very salty 😒 basic burgers for $31. Noisy room, people moving upstairs all night beds where comfy.
- Laurie (10/5): -
- Rick (10/5): The best place to lodge while visiting Sydney - Superb breakfast, exceptional facilities, cheerful and helpful staff. An ideal way to get to know the zoo while lodging just a short ferry ride to central Sydney.
To miejsce zdecydowanie przekroczyło nasze oczekiwania. Niezapomniane przeżycie, do którego chętnie wrócimy!

- carolinebZ680UW (10/5): up close to koalas, on my bucket list! - One of the most brilliant places to stay if you love animals as much as I do. My room, beautifully fitted out, had a floor to ceiling picture window with a koala in a tree right outside. Glorious bar, fabulous restaurant and you get to access the zoo out of opening hours. It is easy to spend several days here and not see everything. Easy ferry trip across the bay from the main Sydney waterfront. The staff are all charming and dedicated and keen to make your visit the best it can be. Go - you will not be disappointed. I stayed two nights.
- Liz (10/5): Lovely stay in a unique boutique hotel… the views from the bar and restaurant are amazing. - Beautiful hotel is a great spot. Cannot recommend enough. Nothing.
- Oliver (9/5): -
- Bruce (10/5): -
- John (10/5): -
- Eamonn (10/5): - Wonderful, comfortable rooms in spotless condition. The room/level numbering system is somewhat confusing.
- Peter (9/5): -
- Franz (10/5): -
- Jean (8/5): Lovely stay - we enjoyed the zoo, room was comfy & we loved it opening up to the outdoors. - I was impressed by the warmth and helpfulness of the staff. The lounge area was very pleasant. The prices were high, for us, at least, in the lounge, but the food was good and atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxing. The coffee in the restaurant at breakfast was good, but felt like the 5 to 15 minutes to wait for small cups of coffee was long.

- HonestReviewsWithLoz (10/5): The BEST place to stay in Sydney ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I couldn’t recommend the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga Zoo any higher!
From the minute we got there we were met with the most professional staff who were willing to go above and beyond to make our experience the best they could and the most spectacular views of the opera house and harbour bridge (breathtaking!)
We were booked in for extra exclusive tours over our 2 night/3 day stay (I 100% recommended booking as many extra tours as you can. The knowledge by the keepers, zoo staff and volunteers is phenomenal and you get to have all your questions answered 1 on 1)
We also booked in for dinner that the Me-Gal restaurant that is located at Taronga Zoo and oh my god I’m so glad we did! The food was absolutely sensational and if we thought the views from the reception area were breathtaking… the restaurant views are next level!
Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for our 2 night stay with daily room servicing available.
Out of your balcony, every room has their own native Australian animal exhibits.
We had the famous red roo’s 🦘
A buffet breakfast was included every morning at the Me-Gal restaurant and it absolutely caters to all. And the coffee is delicious!
After a long day exploring all the zoo has to offer, you can enjoy a drink and light meals from the bar in the beautiful reception area.
It’s such a beautiful way to wind down and the only noise you can hear is the wildlife and nature and that is the same for in your room.
The location is perfect and tranquil. You can easily make the journey into the city via car or ferry (I’d suggest the ferry though because parking in Sydney is superrrrr expensive)
This stay was worth every single cent and I couldn’t recommend it any higher.
It will not disappoint!
- D4774CYwilliamn (10/5): A Magical Zoo Experience - Anyone interested in a close-up experience with Australian wildlife, in a gorgeous and extraordinarily friendly atmosphere, should not miss the Taronga Wildlife Retreat. That all money spent goes to support conservation and animal care and research makes it even better!

- Alex (10/5): -
- maria (10/5): Enjoyed the Tranquility - Up-close wildlife encounters and easy multi access to Zoo made our stay rewarding. Panoramic views across Sydney Harbour from the main deck were breathtaking, especially at sunset. Breakfast was excellent, with a service-focused team—thanks to Micha, Anne Marie on front desk and our passionate guides Juanita and Helen. Next time will do The Wild Ropes climb as it looked like great fun.
- Simon (5/5): Disappointing - Love the zoo and the staff are lovely Our room was on the ground floor next to where all the talks and walls started. It smelt damp and there was no animals we could see the whole time in the enclosure in front of our room. Third time we’ve come and definitely the most disappointing.
