Guest Reviews
- Taylor (4/5): - Only had 2 restaurants. Food gave me food poisoning. Staff was nice but absolutely will not be back…
- Maria (8/5): - The property is old but is super clean! The only draw back is that there is only 1 place to eat so the variety is lacking but overall the food is delicious. It is right next to the ferry to isla mujeres so that is def a plus. The island is a must see. Looks just like a post card!
- JOSE RAFAEL (2/5): - La experiecia mas mala q he tenido en todas mis vacaciones
- Tatyana (6/5): - The lunch and dinner taste horrible!
- Claudia (8/5): - The room was a little disappointing. For 3 it was too small. The food was very good and that made it worth it.
- Oxana (6/5): - We’ve been here few years ago and the staff was always very nice and welcoming. Unfortunately the room we stayed in looked like didn’t have any improvements in the past few years.
- Jaqueline (10/5): - Everyone was super nice !
- pablo (2/5): - Rooms definitely needs upgrades, the food at the buffet its not that good but brakefast was horrible definitely not staying again over there.
- Krystal (10/5): - The resort was beautiful. Activities were amazing. Nice people. Great energy. Tasty food and beautiful parrots and peacocks.
- Edgar (10/5): - Everyone was so friendly and offered insights to our trip checklist. Had a great experience. We'll be back!
- Paul (10/5): - The staff were wonderful
- Jane (6/5): - Friendly staff
- Sergey (2/5): - very dirty beach, not private. not friendly waiters, not tasty food, very small choice of food, dirty and old apartments. I don't recommend it
- Angelena (8/5): - This property is highly affordable for couples and family with small children. All inclusive so drinks were endless and the food was okay. The food and meals were nothing too fancy but every night there was a theme to the meal. Lots of activities to do around the resort and the beach is walking distance with private seating just for dos playas people. Please tip these people! They do their best to serve the customers including the drunk hungry ones who wonder in last minute. The hotel room on the other hand was not the best. Me and my fiancés hotel room toilet constantly leaked and we woke up with a puddle in the bathroom every morning of our stay. The room also smelt of mildew but nothing too gross. The shower water is also Luke warm takes a moment to warm up in general but doesn’t get hot. We didn’t mind that since we were sun burnt and wanted nothing to do with hot water. Can’t say that’s everyone’s preference so make sure if you’re looking for somewhere that will give you the basic Cancún experience nothing over the top fancy you stay at dos playas Farandas. There is also wild peacocks and iguanas that wonder around the property they are domesticated peacocks please don’t feed them as the employees take care of them. Also bring an extension cord the hotel rooms have 1-2 outlets in the room itself max.
- Sonya Ann (10/5): - I loved the quiet, family friendly atmosphere and the buffets were always amazing. The property is not huge but it is perfect for a relaxing getaway. The beach area was perfect for swimming.
- Mayra (10/5): - Great experience!
- Melissa (6/5): - Bring snacks with you. You’ll need them. Good budget property if you don’t expect any frills. Very small pools. Beach full of seaweed. EXTREMELY pushy salespeople. The bartender Appolini was the highlight of the trip. He’s wonderful. Trust me if you’re not in a rush, wait, save $200 more and stay somewhere else.
- maeva (10/5): - i was skeptical over the reviews but the place was amazing! the staff was super friendly and smiley. rooms were clean. we upgraded and it was 100% worth it. would recommend again
- OLa (2/5): - If I could give zero stars, I would.
My stay at Dos Playas by Faranda was the worst hotel experience of my life — and I’ve never felt so humiliated while traveling.
From the moment we arrived, things were wrong: no one helped us with luggage after check-in. We climbed stairs in the dark because the hallway lights kept shutting off. Our room door barely closed, the bathroom reeked of sewage, and there was no fan or ventilation. My friend has allergies and struggled to breathe because of the strong sewer smell.
There were no toiletries — not even shampoo. Just one towel per person, expected to be used for body, face, and hair. They didn’t even replace it daily. The pillow had a black stain. The closet was tiny, had only three hangers, no shelves, and worst of all — an open electrical breaker box inside it.
The pool smelled horrible. The food was even worse: cold, bland, and the vegetables were often spoiled.
Reception staff were shockingly rude. One night I lost my room key, and they refused to give me another, making me wait over 30 minutes outside while my friend slept inside.
Worst of all — this was meant to be a birthday gift for my best friend. I planned it with love, and instead I felt ashamed and helpless.
This hotel ruined everything. Do not stay here. It’s not just bad — it’s depressing, unsafe, and a total scam.
- Cherokee (8/5): - Good location, good food, friendly staff, our room was cleaned well every time we got cleaning service. Beautiful green landscape. Nice beach with plenty of lounge chairs for everyone. Smaller resort but we liked that about this place. Good for a laid back vacation. Just what we wanted. Keep in mind there is stairs throughout the resort and no elevator. Our room had a good working AC which was a plus for us. The entertainment was great!
- Christopher M (8/5): - Budget. Clean. Various problems with rooms however
- Jennifer (10/5): - We had a nice stay, this is a smaller hotel on the hotel zone, but it has everything you need and is a great choice for the cost.
Pros:
- The staff were really friendly and helpful
- the rooms were always clean with plenty of bottled water given each day and AC
- the private beach was nice with activities nearby
- the pools and grounds were well kept.
- they had great food options that changed every meal
- The bartenders were great, lots of alcoholic and non alcoholic options and snacks around.
- bus station in front of the hotel for easy transport
Cons:
- The walls are a bit thin so you will hear music outside and people in the hallway. Not an issue if you don't want to spend vacation in your room anyways!
- Jake andrew (8/5): - Beach access cleanliness and felt like a safe environment
- Nancy (10/5): - Great hotel and beautiful beach! A great affordable option , would definetly visit again .
- Jill (8/5): - The beach a absolutely beautiful
Soft sand, waves but no riptide. They work very hard to clean up the seaweed.
The food is local Yucatan. If you're looking for gringo food rhis place isn't for you. But they do have hot dogs and pizza snack bars.
It's very clean. Upgrade to the ocean view, well worth the money.
The activities are fun.
Remember that its not a 5 star and you will be please.
- Annika (6/5): - This place has a beautiful beach located right outside your door, however the rooms were not super clean. The beds had stains all over them and were rock hard. The staff were ok, many of them ignored us and prioritized those who spoke Spanish over us. Overall it’s not a super boujee place but it’s ok if you are looking for somewhere neutral to stay.
- Jacob (8/5): - We stayed for 5 days. Food was great. The area was well taken care of. We will definitely return. The staff was amazing and they worked with us on our accommodation when we needed a different room from the original selection.Guadeloupe from the iguana restaurant, outstanding!
- Madeline (8/5): - We had a great time at Dos Playas. It’s smaller than your average all inclusive resort but it was perfect for our family with a toddler. If you are looking for luxury, ongoing entertainment, and state of the art facilities, this is not the place for you. Although very quaint, it was clean, a few pools to choose from, easy access to beach, and meal options were okay, some days better than others. We enjoyed our stay!
- Olena (10/5): - I really enjoyed staying at “Dos Playas” The area around so beautiful. Restaurants facing beach views so it’s really nice,, very tasty food art the buffet and restaurants, great variety of cocktails and other drinks .Mexican diner in the garden with decorations , dancing and delicious food was awesome .
I appreciate everyone who is creating memorable atmosphere . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- julio (10/5): - Deben actualizar los cuarto
- Tetiana (10/5): - Lots of trees and paths where you can walk around like a jungle, I liked everything. And the food and the staff. Everyone is friendly.
- Galina Soloveyevna (8/5): - I really liked the beach and food
- Maryam (4/5): - The staff are very rude! The food was not so good not a lot of variety given to choose from. The resort is very small, small beech.
- ELSA (2/5): - The place is falling apart. The beach is beautiful though
- Jerra (4/5): - Very little dining options and hardly ever had a waiter come to our table to offer drinks. Rooms were clean but water temp was cold and shower faucet in poor condition. The peacocks and iguans roaming around the property were the highlight of the trip for me. Ok for the price I suppose.
- Stephanie (8/5): - Close access to the beach
Had to call front desk multiple times to get extra pillows
- Abigale (6/5): - Great for family. Beautiful beach
- Candelaria (6/5): - En the pictures they show much better rooms then reality
Mattress was hard I was expecting full size bed but they were twin
Barroom need to be renew
- Norman (8/5): - Nice place nice people nice service pretty good location
- HUGO LACERDA (6/5): - Not the best, but not the worst. Cost benefits is worth it
- Wilson (10/5): - Not that big not small but cozy hotel, loved the walk paths around the hotel is like a Caribbean park next to the beach.
- Dale (10/5): - Our trip to Cancun once again was terrific! This hotel has a very friendly staff very clean and very affordable. We will be staying here again next year - this will be our third time at this hotel.
I do not recommend Economy Car /or American Car Rental (same business) as they were to pick us up at the airport to deliver us to our rental van. After 2 hours of waiting they finally sent a car to pick us up, after arriving at the car rental place they had no vehicle for us and it was paid for two months prior to our arrival. They said the van I had rented was given to someone else and maybe we could get it on Tuesday. We decided cancel the rental and we were charged 150$ American dollars for their error! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! We’re disappointed not only with the rental shop but also with Expedia! They had not paid the rental shop yet for our reservation! Chaos! BUT…. We made the best of our 14 day holiday and used city transit!
- Francis (6/5): - Not the best, not the worst. Food is awful though. Shootout to the front desk service.
- Linh (8/5): - The place is quite large, have a private beach and 5 pools ( all are small pool). The food was better than we expected. We were there 8 days and none of the food repeated. The minor issue is that when we reach the room, the tv didnt work and electricity issue but was solved by the hotel. Wish they were responding a bit faster and not a few hours later. Other than that everything was great!
- larry joseph (8/5): - The location is great, rooms are clean, staff is friendly and helpful. Loved the walking trail. Resort is small so easy to get around and food was good with options for eating throughout the day. Staff goes to a lot of effort to give you a real taste of Mexico
- Kiersten Ann (8/5): - Great stay and good price!
- Russell Charles (6/5): - Great twin beaches, walkable to many activities, quaint staff efforts, kitchen creative with available foods, I prefer the three storey walkups, folksy entertainment, priced right for Canadians and locals, glad to see the concrete work getting patched and step off edges painted, very bright sign across street at aqua court, lots of 12 peso buses, we be back
- Jordan (8/5): - The staff at Dos Playas were exceptional! Everyone was really nice and accommodating, from the front desk staff to the servers. Guadalupe and Luis were particularly great servers, and they made our stay all the more enjoyable!
The beach area is great, and it is easy to access excursions from this hotel. The buffet was great every day, from breakfast to dinner. There are also pretty good snack options on-site, like pizza and burgers. There is entertainment in the nighttime, which was enjoyable. You can walk to Coco Bongo from here in about 40 minutes.
The hotel does appear to be a little older. The room will not be the best you've ever stayed in, and some sections of the resort could use a little physical love. If you're more interested in a great and picturesque room, this resort probably isn't for you. If you're more interested in the beach, excursions, and exploring Cancun, this resort will allow you to do that at an affordable price. There were tons of families vacationing at this resort while we were there, and they seemed to be having a great time! I think people of all ages can enjoy themselves here.
The staff, including maintenance and cleaners, were very receptive to our requests, and they were very prompt.
The highlights of this resort were the staff, the beach, and the buffet.
- Douglas (8/5): - Staff super friendly
- Frederick William (4/5): - Property is very old . Dining was not good. My daughter got food poisoning the second day . Walk in clinic and pharmacy is right next door.
Only two bottles of water in room no other beverages included in frig. Buffet was very limited and other restaurant was Mexican and was very bad quality. Bathrooms near buffet smelled terrible. Have been to Cancun over 10 times and this place was the worst by far. Would not recommend .
- Arber (10/5): - they are excellent
- Jodie Dawn (10/5): - It was a wonderful experience!
- Qui Phuc (6/5): - This is a small resort so there is quietness if you prefer, the food is not as good as expected but the food option is changed every day to make up for it. Pizza place is great compared to other food options. If they clean the seaweeds on the beach more often, it would greatly increase satisfaction. Staff is friendly overall. We like the green shades as there are lot of trees at the resort.
- Elizaveta (8/5): - Loved the level of service- very kind and helpful employees especially for complete tourists like me and my friend! Helped us navigate Mexico by explaining how the buses/taxis work and helping us book a car last minute sitting with us for 45mins calling the places as most don’t even speak English. Only small things like we had to ask for our bedsheets to be replaced when we got there- they had stains. And my friend found a hair in the food once which spoiled our appetite. These things could have happened anywhere so we appreciate the staff taking care of both situations
- Shane (8/5): - The beach is beautiful.
- FELIPE (6/5): - Place is outdated, staff is friendly but it takes forever to get something (ahorita…). Drinks are the worst, food is fair.
- Justina (10/5): - Good
- Karina (8/5): - It’s a old hotel, they should make a maintenance in the structure
- Betty Pai Lin (2/5): 😮💨😓😓 - The ground in the hotel, all stairs and stones. Even the way for wheels, Especially in the rainy days, the ways are very slippery. I felt and twisted my ankle right away on the first day after checked in.. the hotels no elevator so I have to move to downstairs without window.. I tried to upgraded to ocean view room.. but there is shower rain that all the rain water coming into the room everywhere.. me and my daughter must stayed on the bed .. all my suitcases are staying in the water.. we tried to call front desk to help.. in the begging they said 5minutes, 10 minutes and right away… and then hanged up my call.. until after 3 hours, my daughter went to the front desk directly in the rain and asked them to do something to solve problems… finally they sent a cleaning lady came and used a mop to move the water on the room ground to hall way .. that’s it! Of course there still had some water under the bed and suitcases.. I’m not just complain about the old equipment (old shower head, old faucet…, ) the most important thing is no honest and slow services.. in my life, I travelled all of the world, it is the worst hotel I never been.. 😮💨I stayed two different hotels this time in Cancun.. the other one is perfect .. I never thought I had so such a bad experience with this hotel..
- Jairo (4/5): - Food was terrible
- Monik (6/5): - I stayed just one night and it was just perfect.
The building has pros and cons’
The hotel has beach access
Very clean rooms
3 medium swimming pools
The restaurant is doing the best they can, sometimes too crowded, food is ok
Some of the staff are super friendly, but at the lobby there is not the best customer service
There is no elevator
No activities organized by the hotel
- Congmin (2/5): - Poor facility. I booked two rooms, rain water leaked into one of the rooms. Called the front desk and asked for change, they said no room available and even not bother to send a employee to look how bad the leak was. We had to run to the front desk to talk to the manager, she finally agreed to change. Some pieces of concrete from the balcony of the upper floor falled to another room's during rain. The food quality is low and the choices are limited. There are only two operating restaurants. They closed one of the during a rainy evening, made guests standing in a long line outside waiting for dinner. We had to wait for one hour to get a beach towel. Most of the employee are nice and willing to help.
- Kayla (10/5): - Loved the buffets! Everybody was very polite and helpful as we didn’t speak spanish. Lots of different things going around during the day and nights each day we were there so plenty of entertainment! Lots of pool room and loungers. Definitely recommend.
- Akshay (8/5): - This hotel is located on the northern side of the hotel zone. Access to the beach is convenient, with views of Isla Mujeres. The hotel is right next to the Ultramar ferry that leaves for Isla Mujeres from a pier on Playa Tortugas.
This is not the most upscale hotel in this area, but we thought we got more of a local feel staying at this hotel (compared to the other typical US hotel chain names) especially in their food menu. Unlike many hotels in the hotel zone that looked like maximizing the number of rooms in tall buildings, this hotel has smaller sized buildings (2-3 floors) with plenty of open space, including five pools which our child loved. The smaller scale of the number of rooms and fellow guests, and plenty of open spaces meant that we felt comfortable letting our child explore the premises more independently, which was nice. There were also plenty of iguanas and peacocks nonchalantly walking around on the property.
The staff is very friendly.
- Adriana (10/5): - Todos fueron muy amables y ayudaban en todo lo q necesitabamos, la comida en especial en el restaurante cielito lindo muuuy rica
- Marly Donna (6/5): - The staff is very friendly. The place itself is old. The housekeepers do minimal even when you leave them a good tip each day. The food is not good. Recycled every day. Same food for a week and not of good quality at all. Personally, I will not return to this property.
- oscar (10/5): - Resort is ok, spend 1 night here before going to final destination. Food was not the best, not much to do at the resort. Workers are very nice and friendly but it needs a lot of work.
- ken (8/5): - Siri front desk ruined my checkout. He wanted to charge me for not having my bracelet. I had cut it off the night before because we don’t need it anymore since I was checking out early morning next day. They don’t tell you at checkin to keep it until checkout. Suri should be executed by a cartel. All the other hotel staff were friendly and hard working. Good value budget friendly all inclusive hotel. Good food. Clean room , shower, and comfortable bed. It’s not a five star hotel so don’t expect perfect everything. There are stairs on wall, rusted lamps, and broken outlets. Entertainment by the pool and every night. I had to pay for two rooms for my adult kids who came along so this budget all inclusive hotel with two rooms was a bargain.
- Gabriel (10/5): - Exelent atention and enterteiment
- Maricela (2/5): - The property is rundown and old, the food was terrible, the bath towels looked like floor rags.
The front desk afternoon staff was very nasty when I called to request an extra towel.
At the dining room Breakfast time asked for a omelette with ham, cheese, onions and tomatoes the lady told me no only two ingredients haha I told her you make me my omelette the way I want to eat it.
We want it to rest that’s why we rent it here a family small hotel but is not worth the money.
Terrible place to stay.
- Richard James (8/5): - Great value for the money.
- Tyler (8/5): - The resort was very cute and the staff were amazing and very friendly
- Guadalupe (8/5): - I like the buffet every day they have different menus.
- Mr T R (2/5): - It was an awful experience staying for our family. The pool was busy and only chairs there not enough beds for most of the guests and smelly. There’s beautiful beach but junk everywhere, really hope the hotel would look after the beach well . The room was so old and you could hear the someone talking easily. The restaurant was dirty … but the staffs in reception were very nice.
- Zoya (4/5): - I wasn’t my best experience, had to upgrade my room for extra because the first room not at good condition at all. Didn’t like the food choices. Good friendly stuff and good service tho
- Abraham (10/5): - I really appreciate the service from all the staff, I found the food to be varied and tasty. The property although is not new is quite comfortable. I felt close to the natural environment and away from any city vibes.
- Umberto (8/5): - Nice place to relax , definitely not a party hotel
- Michael W (10/5): - xxxxx
- Daisy Janeth (10/5): - Everting good
- Judith (2/5): - Staff Lady in front lobby was rude, and not very helpful at all.
No coffee maker in room.
During rain we got water into our room, there was at least 2” of water that I stepped into in the morning, so we left 2 days early rented a different resort, I’m hoping to get my money back.
- Juan (10/5): - Hotel en muy buena ubicacion a un costado de la playa, la habitacion que nos toco estaba recien remodelada, amplia y muy bonita. Los Jueves tienen noche mexicana con antojitos mexicanos delociosos.
- Kahla (8/5): - Budget Friendly! Did not know Bar didn’t open until 10am. It’s vacation-we like mimosas w/ breakfast! Especially since we did excursions 2days and was off the resort a nice amount of time. Plus, rather early. Although, we did not go to the sushi restaurant, the food selection was not great. We was told once that they were out of burger buns, so I believe others weren’t impressed w/ the food either. Overall, okay for a weekend trip, as we ate well off the resort.
- Teresa Lynn (10/5): - Hotel needs “Do not Disturb” signs for doors. This would eliminate cleaning staff from knocking and/or walking in the room at 8:00 am.. Restaurants were very good.
- FILZHA (8/5): - Nice place, safe
- Alvaro (10/5): - Fue todo muy bonito gracias
- Anna (10/5): - Staff was very friendly. Food buffet and drinks was delicious.
- Deztiney (10/5): - I loved the property and the sushi restaurant! It was beautiful and money well spent my oonly issue was the all you can eat breakfast could’ve been a little better.
- Janardan (6/5): - Bathroom is not good.
- Nissa (10/5): - Food was bad
- BIBIANA (2/5): - Needs updated i didn't have water in my room for 12 hours .
- Lisbeth (8/5): - Everything was pretty good at this property. Although it's an older building, it's kept pretty clean. My family and I loved the pools, and especially the private beach! We also loved the different food options, although they didn't have ice ream, which is something they need to add to their menu! Also, one thing that was not as pleasant was the mattress of the bed provided in our room for my husband and I, it was too hard and gave us an achy back. Good thing the bed my daughters used was ok.
- Capatina (2/5): - You send me the page to leave a review when I didn't even honor the presence there, I kept writing on the chat, I sent emails, I can't get in touch with anyone, my flight was refused, I didn't understand the reason why this happened and I didn't succeed to reach my destination, I chose this location precisely because it seemed to me that it was all I needed for a successful vacation, but because of this situation I was unable to reach it! Please, let's find a way to return my money back,Capatina Alexandra Iulia
- Dora (10/5): - Beautiful & wonderful experience. The staff was awsome
- Francesca (6/5): - Limited seating.
- Esteban (6/5): - The A/C wasn’t enough to cooldown the bedroom, they give you only one key impossible to get second one, in on the hand , buffet is very decent, but if you have a early tour they don’t let you take the minimum to get breakfast you are no allow to take food out of restaurant.
- FERNANDO (2/5): - Worst experience in my life! Been traveking for over 25 year and never had an isisue or experience like this, rude staff starting with the GM, got my room broken into by satff stold 10k pesos like 400$ us dollars, m, walet and documents!! Will never recomend or stay hwre evwr again
- Belinda (4/5): - The food was mediocre. The snack menu was the same EVERYDAY.
- Ricardo (10/5): - Elegant, fun, orderly, beautiful, abundant, attention to details, service at your fingertips:
are all qualities that describe this resort.
- Chris (8/5): - Variety of foods was great
- Jodi (10/5): - Nice place , beautiful location :)
