Guest Reviews
- Aldis (10/5): - We had missed our train departing from Venice, but despite the late request we were accommodated, and our luggage was llooked after the next day while we spent some extra time in Venice. The room was tasteful and, for Venice, very spacious.
- Matias (7/5): - Nice location. House cleaning times were weird. On the first morning cleaner started knocking my door 8:30 and on the second day 16:00.
- Vasilis (8/5): -
- Alan (7/5): Expensive for what you get - The location . At 1am we went down to reception to complain about the fan not working in the room and the guy working there gave us a fan. The lack of value for money. The fan/ air conditioning wasn’t working so it was really hot in the room.
I asked for an extra pillow for both of us as there was only one in the room due to both of us having neck problems but they only provided one.
- alberto (5/5): Senza dire arrivederci.
- r_o_b_ (8/5): Vence always fun - Basic place next to the train station. Old fashioned but authentic. Comfy bed, very nice staff. Service offered is the minimum possible. It is good just for a limited stay. They are supposed to close the consierge service at about midnight, so if you stay out until late you must collect the keys "at a friends"... which is not the best thing. Maybe they can think about a self-managed way to access the property.
- Frauke (5/5): -
- Pascale (9/5): -
- Marianne (7/5): OK But if you want to walk Venice at night not an options. - No breakfast. But at that price point not expected. 1) You only get a room key and the front desk leaves at 10. So, you need to be back to your room by 10 pm! 2) I am 71 yrs old & the young lady at the front desk did not offer to assist with my small carry-on or backpack as we climed the stairs to the room. The next morning the older women at the desk did ask but I did not need help.
- Gerold (10/5): Würde wieder kommen - Alles in Ordnung Nichts
- Marco (6/5): - Location Outdated. Not so celan
- Ali (8/5): - Personal sehr lieb, sehr gut gelegen, schönes Interieur Recht klein
- Zdenka (1/5): - The room was clean at first apperance. Woke up in the morning and was covered in small bitte Marks from small incects crawling in the bed. Had to go to pharmacy to get cream and pills for the incect bites. Beware of the small Bugs that share the bed with you.. stayed in room number 5.
- Peta (6/5): It served a purpose but one night was enough. Staff were friendly enough - It was well located but noisy from the street below Should have warned no lift. For the price I paid the room was very small. Also if you need to use the plug sockets for charging devices with an adaptor be warned if you come from UK you will blow the fuse in the room and lights will go out. Hotel did provide a USB charger with local plug but it meant I could only charge phone.

- Francesco (9/5): -
- Valeria (5/5): - Clean, the staff is friendly If you want to have a sleep at night, then don’t choose this hotel. The hotel has no soundproofing at all. That was a nightmare.
Also it was super cold in the room, the bed is not made with a blanket, there was only a sheet and some strange plaid in the closet. The floor was very cold and the tiles are impossible to walk on without slippers
- Elea (8/5): Great location if you travel by train :) - Very close to the train station, the staff is friendly and there‘s always somebody there (you can leave the key and don‘t have to worry about losing it). Interesting shower, quite small 😂
- Nasim (5/5): Poor bathroom, poor room amenities, very outdated - Location Room, toilet
- Atsuhiro (10/5): Awesome - Great staff, clean room, great access from the train station. Room cleaning everyday and nice shower water pressure. None

There were a lot of mosquitoes in the room, I tried to fight them all night, they were buzzing and biting

- Antoinette (10/5): Exceptional -
- ElvisBarden (8/5): Excellent night sleep - I had booked on Atlantide Hotel but was reallocated to Hotel Antics Casa Carettoni during check in. It that might be owned by the same landlord/company
I've booked a single room with private shower and toilet. It was perfect and despite not very big, it had everything I need for a 1 night stay.
Had a very good night sleep.
The hotel has no lift, therefore not suitable for disabled people.
- Mark (8/5): Nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff and Venice/Italy was fabulous to visit - Nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff and Venice/Italy was fabulous to visit

- Delreview (8/5): LOCATION LOCATION! - Hotel Antica Casa Carettoni is located in a busy pedestrian street just five minutes flat walk from the Santa Lucia station. On arrival we immediately felt like we were in the thick of Venice.
Our room looked out over the street, but with the shutters closed it was quiet and peaceful. and we slept well.
Our room was nice - however, both room and bathroom were on the "tight" side. This did not overly concern us as we were out and about most of the time.
Breakfast was adequate - and served in "slight chaos" with the woman in charge running between the coffee machine and the reception desk; and the food was set out in different parts of the room. Not a massive issue - but could be improved with a
little more order, and maybe someone to mind the desk during breakfast time. Hotel foyer needed a bit of re-organisation also.
The Grand Canal and ferry ticket booths are just two minutes away.
Pleasant - and certainly very handy!
- Sanjib130787 (8/5): Good location - Good location, very near to Venezia Santa Lucia station and ferry points from where you can plan your trip well. The rooms were clean and spacious with cupboards and table/chair.
The breakfast was so limited in options. The buffet spread ended almost as soon as when it began, no brown bread options and no scrambled eggs as well. Also the person at the reception continuously runs to the breakfast room to make tea/coffee for you personally. Its tiring for him to manage and does not feel good to see a person like that. The temperature in the room was not comfortable. When getting in touch with the reception, they said they cannot help with the ac since its winter season. Well its theoretically winter, whereas it incredibly hot practically. The street is full of crowd and restaurants and tourists walking while dragging their suitcases on the road, so if the rooms are towards the street, you can say bye bye to sleep as its very noisy till late.
- mellowkenny (8/5): A gem of a little dates - Perfectly located near the train station, hotel is far enough away from the main tourist sights that it isn’t noisy at nights but is at the end of a large shopping street in Venice which means the street outside is never too quiet. Very friendly manager on the desk . . he never seemed to leave the desk during our entire stay. Decor is a little dated but warm and comfortable.
- Theskv (8/5): Great hotel, great staff, GREAT location - Our flight was delayed and we did not arrive at the hotel until after 1am however they were kind enough to let us check in even though we had passed the check in time.
The room was lovely, not too small but big enough for two people. It included a small mini fridge and a safe that I believe you could ask reception for the keys to. The bathroom was a modern bathroom however the showers are quite small. I am not exaggerating it was like you are in a coffin and you cannot turn around. Even though it was a small shower it had great water pressure and it did the job.
The location of the hotel is fantastic and you are right next to the train station. In the morning you can hear some of the bustle going on in the streets but it is a great view and motivates you to start your day.
The staff were fantastic and the lady at the front who served us breakfast was so kind and enthusiastic. Breakfast didn't have many options. You could pick from cereal, pastries, toast and assorted meats and cheese. They offered you a hot drink as well on arrival in the mornings.
One thing that I would suggest taking into consideration is how much luggage you are bringing as there are no lifts and you need to carry your bags to your floor.
Overall a fantastic stay!
- insearchofit (10/5): Brilliant find - Very lucky here. With Venice being scary expensive - this was excellent value. Breakfast was better than we expected so was the location. We asked for a quiet 1st floor room away from the street and room No 1 was awesome - it was LARGE! Slight issue with mossies, and strange aircon control. Will not work if window open.
Very clean, and décor/furniture very Italian.
- Urbanheat (4/5): Smallest room in Venice - We have travelled from Rome, to Tuscany and Florence and this has been the smallest room we have stayed in. Actually, ever. Not what was advertised. We originally booked into the neighbouring hotel, but seems that there were renovations and got checked into this hotel. We queried with reception staff who just told us to pay more to get into another room. Ps! Staff here compared to rest of Italy, poor service. Won't stay again.
- Coastal509721 (8/5): Venice hotel - The hotel is located very close of train station, at the main pedestrian street to the centre. Out side is hotel little bit battered, but inside is very cute and stylish. Rooms are small, but nice. Shower is very narrow.
Some room has strange noises at night, probably vibration of drain pipes.
Staff is very kind, good speaking english. Breakfest is rather easy, some time with out any saussages and eggs.
- angief441 (8/5): lovely stay - We where actually booked into Hotel Atlantide but due to maintenance work, we got booked into Carettoni. Lovely Hotel, very clean, due to all the marble on stairs, walls etc it could be noisy, echoing the closing of other room doors. Staff very friendly, more choice needed at breakfast time.
Try for room to back as this hotel is on main street from railway station, water taxi station etc and can be very noisy at certain during the night. All in all would stay again.
- 711joeyl (8/5): Ideally Located - It's a nice 3-star hotel in a well traffic'd area of the city, local to the train, bus, taxi, and food. Our room was small, but sufficient for our stay, and the staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms are very close together to each other, so you get a bit of ambient noise, and there wasn't a way to control our room's heating system (which worked for me, but my husband was roasting and had to crack the window.) All in all, for a weekend stay where you're going to only be sleeping in your hotel while in Venice, it works well.
- mistaJake (8/5): Very nice hotel - Me and my wife stayed at this hotel at the start of September and this was our first visit to Venice. The staff were very friendly and always had a smile on their faces. The hotel is very clean, decorated nicely and a great price for when we stayed
Room
Our room was on the top floor situated at the back of the hotel away from the street where it was very quiet. There wasn’t really a view from our room, but this didn’t really matter as we would spend most of our time out and about. We had a very clean room with a Double bed, AC a very small safe (£20 deposit) and a fridge. The bathroom was very small and the shower was very tight. I'm 5, 11" slim built and I found it very hard to shower. The water was powerful and had good pressure.
Breakfast
The breakfast area is quite small only for about 20 guests at one time, but if you timed it right you can get a seat. The breakfast is very basic and minimal. Cereal, cakes, croissant, ham, cheese boiled egg, water, juice, tea, coffee. It was ok, but could have had a better variety of food, or possible cooked breakfast food.
Location
The location of the hotel was pretty good in my eyes. It is very easy to get lost or end up in the wrong direction in Venice and traveling with a suitcase after a flight we didn’t want to be wondering around for a long time. It was a 10 min walk from the bus station or 5min walk from the train station. The first time we walked right past it getting distracted by all the shops, but it was simple to find. There are plenty of restaurants around to choose from as well as souvenir shops. Outside the train station, there are a few water tax stops which will take you pretty much anywhere in Venice. We bought a 3day pass to travel on the water tax which you can use as much as you like. To get to St Marco square it takes about 20-25mins depending.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to others as it offers great value for money and a great location in Venice. The hotel doesn't really accommodate for people who will find it hard walking up stairs as there is no lift
- alexeyo357 (6/5): Poor choice - Good one is only price and proximity to Santa Lucia Train station.
The rest of experience was bad.
Fridge in the room was not working. Breakfast is very poor. E.g. there was colored water instead of juice. Definitely not 3 stars hotel.
- tesoro7 (10/5): Best deal for location and price ! - Unlike all other hotels where I stayed in my previous 11 visits to Venice (and where I paid much more than in Caretoni) - everything is renovated and actually works, even hydromassage in shower! Clean and QUIET! Very nice, friendly, attentive STAFF.
Will absolutely come back. Thank you, Caretoni, you are the best.
- 104steven (8/5): Visit to Venice - Staff were friendly and helpful and very pleasant. Our room was clean though quite small. En suite bathroom was clean and bijou, but the shower cabinet was very small even though the shower was good. As air-conditioning was not switched on ventilation was a bit of a problem as the central location made for some late night noise in the street below.
The continental breakfasts were as expected but after the weekend large parties of students arrived for breakfast from other accommodation and we had to wait up to 30 minutes for a table.
The central location was very convenient for shops, restaurants and one of the Grand Canal bridges as well as being close to the station and bus terminal.
One tip to others would be that a weekly ticket for the vaporetti is a good idea.
- 960karenm (6/5): Convenient but expensive - Since we were booked on a cruise leaving from Venice i wanted a hotel close to the port. There are no cheap rooms in this city but this was a little pricey for the size of the room and the breakfast was high priced and extra. The room was very clean but very tiny. It was almost me or my luggage. It was easy to find, it was close to the train station and the port and good food was not hard to find close by. The picture on the internet is deceiving. Oh, yes, don't drop the soap in the shower because you will have to get out to retrieve it.
- BH00973 (4/5): Dorm size room & relatively expensive for one night - I couldn't catch the last train to Milan, so I had to stay one night at Venice. It was a horrible experience to find an empty hotel room. Luckily 'Hotel Antica Casa Carettoni' had a vacant one. Since it's 3 stars hotel, I was expecting that the price will be cheap.
The reception was in the 2nd floor. Don't ask me how, but this hotel doesn't have a reception in the 1st floor, because there's no 1st floor. The receptionist was very kind to let me check-in without my passport. He was speaking English and was able to answer all my question.
I paid around 64 euros to stay one night at a room that looks like a dorm. The room was extremely small. For few minutes I thought I rented a dorm room not a hotel room. There was no blanket, no water bottle, no drinks or snacks in the refrigerator. The room heater was not working too. I can't comment on the bathroom, because I was thankful that they had hot water in it to take a shower and enough towels. Otherwise nothing is really cool about the toilet. It could be very challenging to get in and out of the bathroom if I was large in body size.
The price didn't cover the breakfast. What really pissed me off was the Wi-Fi. The receptionist shared the username and password with me, BUT there was no network coverage in the room.
Not recommended for more than one night. Keep this hotel as one of your last options.
- basketweaver69 (8/5): One night in Venice - I only had one night in Venice, en route to Bologna by train, so I looked for a hotel close to the railway station, and found this one. It was ideal - convenient, comfortable, and a cheerful and helpful staff.
- jeaninel469 (8/5): Antica Casa Carettoni Venice Italy - We recently stayed over two nights at this quaint little hotel in Venice. We booked it through route perfect and the booking was smooth and easy and we were really pleased with our find! We were greeted by friendly Laura who also does the breakfasts just to your liking and she speaks good English. As you enter you are welcomed by the aircon and the small hotel is neat and tidily kept.
One flight of stairs to our room which sadly had no view sort of funny windows but Venice is tight on space. The room was spacious and had TV and many plug points. The bathroom only had a shower which is modern with all the Jets and is a little tiny but nice hot water. The breakfast is a nice variety of yoghurt cereal juices coffees rolls scrambled eggs viennas and cheese and bacon bits as well as a variety of lovely sweet pastries.❤️ it was really worth it and it is just a short walk from the main parkades and station. We loved this little place close to everything and the Roma restaurant right nearby so we recommend this to everyone.
- 423carolj (8/5): One night in Venice - Booked for final night in Venice after finishing cruise - easy to get to from cruise terminal or train station and very helpful host - letting us access our room several hours earlier than usually allowed. Good value for money in a fairly expensive city.
- paulbU8027AA (6/5): Cheap hotel - first things first, this is a cheap hotel. It's a bit hard to locate , very tired decor, the beds are hard but you won't spend much time there. Easy to get to from Marco Polo airport. Take water bus to "GUGLIE" which is second stop stop from airport €27 return. And then a 6-7 min walk. The hotel is on a main route, various shops from tacky shops, food shops and restaurants. Ask for a back room, it can be noisy at night. On the whole this is ok for a 2-3 night stay.
