Guest Reviews
- Christopher (10/5): - Short walk to Oktoberfest Grounds
- Jess (8/5): - .
- TETSUYA (8/5): - tks
- xiaohong (10/5): - Clean and great location, good staff. Recommend!
- Sergio (8/5): - We enjoyed the place. It is close to train station and restaurants around.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Option eoom
With AC
- Carl (10/5): - Lavender who worked at the front desk was so polite and helpful!
- JIAQIN (8/5): - This is the hotel - everything is just about being average!
Room is small, limited everything. Just close to train station.
- Allan (6/5): - I would probably stay somewhere different next time
- Joao (10/5): - Great place and near the all
- Phillip (6/5): - It is a basic clean little room within five minutes walk of the train station
- Gillian (6/5): Small room but great location - Great location and a good budget option. The family room was very small, even compared to another A&O in Cologne. It git very warm and uncomfortable in the room in July.
- Jamie (8/5): Family stay - Small room, but ok for a few days. No tea or coffee making facilities. Being a hostel I expected a communal kitchen where we could make our own coffee or prepare food.
- Ibrahim (2/5): - This hotel is so bad in terms of hall cleaning. No Kitchen, the Heating was not working. Used shampoo and hand wash gel. You feel like you are living in 1880s, with its price you can get a really better hotel, so disappointed.
- dierik (10/5): - Very close to the train station. Very clean and spacious room for a hostel. Breakfast on site, pretty good eats for 9euros. Cheaper than other restaurants in the area. Bar on site. Highly recommend!
- Gareth (4/5): Prison Cell Beds. Very disappointing. - I booked a long weekend stay at the A&O München Hauptbahnhof as part of a leisure trip through Germany. It was NFL Football weekend and so when this showed up at just over £60 a night I was pleased. The pictures on the website looked lovely, and I made my booking.
The positive side of the hotel is its location. It’s super central and literally 3 mins walk from the Hauptbahnhof Exit.
That’s pretty much it sadly.
I’ve not stayed in such an uncomfortable hotel for quite some time and I’ve never been so keen for check out time to arrive. I looked at taking it on the chin and booking another hotel, but with the football everything was full and the few rooms left were very very expensive.
I had a private single room with a private bathroom. Room 605.
I don’t think I’ve ever stayed anywhere so soulless and lacking in everything. The beds were as near to being in a prison cell as I can imagine, beyond uncomfortable with cheap foam mattresses that have plastic wrapping. I hardly slept throughout my trip and dreaded going back there each evening. The room was incredibly depressing and the tv reception was awful.
It did have a decent bathroom, though the shower needed to be run for a good 5 minutes before the water was warm enough to shower with.
Cleanliness standards were good, so good that my room absolutely stank of bleach on arrival, which lingered. I guess you can’t fault them for that, given that we’ve just come out of a pandemic.
The communal areas are scruffy and real
- Adam (6/5): - Property was adequate for 1-2 nights stay in Munich. Close to the train station but area around the property doesn't have much else.
Our room stunk of cigarette smoke, even though there are clear signs around the property saying no smoking and their was no A/C in the room.
- Jenny (6/5): - This hotel was clean and conveniently located. No frills and a very basic room, but it was fine for our trip.
- Jean (8/5): - We had a room for 4, with a double bed and set of bunk beds. Altogether it was a bit tight for 4, but adequate. The room feels like a dorm room, with sparse furnishings, and a private bath. The location is convenient to the train station, and on the metro line. Decent and adequate, but nothing special.
- Christopher (2/5): - Covid restrictions changed shortly before our stay that would have made illegal for my wife and I to enter the hotel. I requested a cancellation to our booking but this was flatly refused by them hotel staff. Hotels.com support staff were initially helpful but quickly stopped responding.
- Muhannad (10/5): - Excellent
- Chin Keong (8/5): Good for short stay in Munich - Comfortable, a no frills accommodation for a short stay. Staff are friendly and helpful.
- Chin Keong (8/5): Good budget place to stay. - Comfortable stay. Staff are friendly and helpful, glad to be here. Clean room with basic amenities.
- Marieke (8/5): - Big room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A&O - Convenient location, good to crash for a few hours nothing more
- Richard (6/5): Ok place, fairly central location - Located about 5min walk from the central train station (amd maybe 10min from the Hackebrucke bus station) it is easily reachable - but current works closed the tram traffic right in front so it is a bit further walk for the closest transport.
Rather basic property, with some wear & tear visible and cleanliness not exactly perfect - but it covers the basics if you want to stay fairly close to the city centre.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location but a bit dirty - The hotel was in a very good location, very close to the train station and restaurants. Check in/out was very fast and easy. The room itself was a bit dirty. There were dark stains in the toilet and there was a crack in the seal around it so a bad smell was always coming up. The floor was a bit dirty as well.
- Grant Morne (6/5): - Our rooms was not clean beds was not made up. Will not recommend it for family at all
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The staff are friendly enough and try their best with what they have to work with.
Rooms at first glance are okay, however on day 2 of our stay my wife found bed bugs all over the bedsheets after coming back from a long day out. That freaked us out. We were worried about the bugs, possibly biting our kids when they asleep the night before or getting into our luggage and infecting all our other clothing.
We when down to change rooms but couldn't get a room of the same size. Even worse there was another couple who was given a room which was already given to someone else, waiting there for 2 hours before us and still waiting when we were there. They got a rude surprise when they open the room door after getting their keys. Their room was already occupied!
In any case, after a 3 hour wait for us, we were finally given a single bedder at the end which was barely space for 2. The rest of us (we are a family of 4) had to bunk in another room with my brother's family.
We are supposed to get a some sort of refund but 2 cities, 2 hotels and 5 days later still not even a 'peep' from A&O Hotels. I have travelled over 300000 miles and stayed in a lot of hotels in the last 7 years. This is the worst hotel of them all. This is also my 4th stay in Munich. We will never stay in A&O ever again!
- Don (8/5): - Near to Munich Central Train Station - 5mins walk.
Near to cheap supermarkets like ALDI.
Near to Halal Turkish grocery stores and supermarkets.
- Stacy (4/5): Terrible place to stay - The room was dirty, I found dried blood on one of the walls. Markings all over the walls, looks like they had not been clean since the day the place opened. No AC anywhere, made for an uncomfortable sleep at night. I could hear people on boths sides of my room. The toilet was not very clean and the sink had a crack in it. I am in the process of canceling 2 of the 3 nights I booked as I was stuck there for the night. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I would add more photos, but the system is not loading passed 3 photos
- Fredrik (4/5): - Beds are hard and covered in plastic?
The only reason to choose this hotel is because of the proximity to octoberfest area and close to the Hauptbahnhof.
- HS (8/5): Good location, supportive staff - It would be nice if a kettle is provided in the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Private room for four was the perfect size for our family. We even had a balcony. Great location. Check in took over an hour with only one staff person there at 3:30pm.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I liked the location. It was a heat wave so the top floor was a sweat box.
- Ingrid (6/5): Find a Place With AC - Good location near train station. We didn't hear any trains. Safe area. No AC so we had to open windows. Unfortunately, lots of city street sounds on front side of hotel. Street car stops right out front every 10-15 mins. Trash truck comes at 6:30am. They gave us a room on back side of hotel next night. Much better during night. We found out construction on place behind hotel starts at 7am. That's ok because that's when we set our alarms anyway. Find a place with AC if for no other reason than to drown out city street sounds.
- Warwick (8/5): Basic and clean - Clean, modern furnishings but an old building with lots of steps. Staff could be a bit more helpful.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Absolute disgrace, the property is a HOSTEL, but it is referred several times as a hotel. FALSE ADVERTISING
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was fine
- Ana (10/5): - Fantastic staff who go out of their way to hellp (Charbel) - thank you so much! The hotel is in a great location, close to the station. We would highly recommend it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good stay - It's basic but comfortable and good value for money. Friendly staff and lots of space in the rooms. It's easy to get to all the main sights of Munich and close to a lot of good restaurants and shops
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good for short stay - This would be fine for a single night stay. The rooms that are part of the hotel have beds just like the hostel, but the location was pretty nice. Good restaurants near by and only a short walk from the main train station.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location - We like the location is very close to the train and the bus stations. Lots restaurants nearby and is walkable to most main attractions in Munich. The hotel is very basic and the wifi is very slow in the room, we have to go to the lobby to get wifi. The bed is good but the pillow is not.
I will recommend this place if you want to stay someplace close to the train station.
- Mark (8/5): Helpful staff. Convenient for station. - Clean room, handy for railway station. More hostel than hotel but staff very helpful. Some steps to get to the lift.
- Cliff (10/5): - Great room, staff and breakfast. I liked how the hotel was walking distance to the Oktoberfest site, downtown Munich and the train station which took riders to and from the airport.
- Robert (8/5): Outstanding Location & Great Service - My friends and I stayed here for Oktoberfest. We stayed in a basic room with a private bathroom. The four twin mattresses were thin and not especially comfortable, but didn't prevent us from sleeping. Towels were provided, but only on the first night of our stay (we probably could have requested fresh towels). There is no air conditioning available; this is the one feature that would have improved our stay as it was especially warm in Munich during our visit. The front desk service was wonderful, all employees we spoke to were extremely pleasant. We were able to check in early and store our bags safely on our departure day. The location of this property is outstanding. A 10 minute walk from the train station, great sights in Munich, and the Fest fairgrounds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room and location is perfect with a appropriate price
- KW (2/5): Problem with Expedia booking system - My flight at Munich airport was cancelled and The airline booked me on a flight the next morning. Travelled 1 hour from the airport at night to this hotel (near Munich central station) arriving after 10pm only to be told that there’s a mistake and they no longer have rooms. Problem with their interface with Expedia website or Expedia itself. I don’t know. No rooms available in any hotel in the same location or in the city or near the airport. Expedia has already charged my credit card and hopefully they will refund me.
- Kendo (6/5): good location is all i can say about it - it is more a hostel than a hotel - but at hotel prices - not over keen on having to make my own bed - put mattress cover and quilt cover on etc. Room was warm but not the most comfortable nights sleep i have ever had - good location close to station
- A & O München (10/5): Good place, Good location but no sleep - People upstairs were dragging furniture and yelling or fighting and the staff didn't intervene. Very very noisy! otherwise, it would have been great!
- jerry (4/5): Close to train station. - Never again. Motel 6 quality. Used October fest to jack up rates after it had ended.way too much for this level of accommodation.
- anne (8/5): - Hotel is well kept. Room is basic but clean. Close to Oktoberfest ground and within easy walking distance of main part of town.
- Verified traveler (6/5): good location - nice staff good loccation riin is not comftable small bed no cleanning service
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to the station but no very nice neighborhood.
- Andrea (4/5): Better to just get a nice hotel - Super hard bed & you have to make your own on the bunk beds. We got in really late, check out is at 10am, so had to pay 10 euros for late check out. Breakfast not good & you scrape your own plates. The worst was the shower head attachment balancing precariously so when you turn on the water, it falls off. Luckily not on my head. Charge for everything: late check out, parking, breakfast. Best to just get a nicer hotel closer to the center!
- Kenny (4/5): Stinky toilet - Sewage smell in the toilet. Bought and finished using a whole of room deodorant spray.
- jh (6/5): Nice location, room was ok. - They say they guarantee check in by 3. We got there at 2:45 and did not get checked in till almost 4. Then only two out of four beds were made.
Other than that it was ok. The breakfast was nice
- Pok and family (6/5): Good location - The hotel is located in good locaton, close to Munich Hbf. But the room is too small for family and very old, water is not hot enough.
- Pok (6/5): Good location but too small for family stay. - Close to central train station, but I think it's not suitable for family with little kids.
- Cesar (8/5): Ok Hotel - Ok hotel for one night. Good location, close to the train station. Reception at night was located in the back room, in a cafeteria which was a bit odd. Only cash at the time was accepted.
- Verified traveler (6/5): convenient for moving around using rail services - It is affordable andwithin walking distance to the train station
- Vicky (8/5): Centric location - We selected this hotel for its nearness to places we wanted to visit. It was during Xmas Markets and you could walk all the way to Marienplatz, as well as the museum quarter. Hardly used public transportation. The place is a Hotel/Hostel, we got a room in the hotel part, with in suite bathroom.
It was pleasant. Staff is helpful
- Verified traveler (6/5): Convenient, good service, poor housekeeping - Hostel has good location for major city sightseeing locations. 10 min walk to Munich Hbf main station, which is good if taking day tours and travelling to other cities.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was a good location and helpfull staff
- Cenap (10/5): clean and comfortable - All good.
- curtis (8/5): - Back rooms are quite a walk to lug your stuff
- MAK (4/5): Location is okay, but better hotels are closer. - This place is a bit shabby and the walk to the Hauptbahnhof is a bit to far in the wrong direction. I've stayed at places for the same money that are closer, cleaner and feel safer.
- Tim (4/5): Theft a A&O Berlin Mitte - Luggage was place in "secure" storage where only access was through the front desk. Our 4 bags were got at and now we are minus 2 iPods, 1 iPad, JBL speaker and a digital camera. Very suss - looks like someone from the staff is involved
- Carmel (2/5): 3 - First there isnt sheets on the beds on the floor still fluff plus during the night was too much noise and arguments it was nightmare plus too much noise from the street of cars and trams.
- Gelvin (8/5): hotel 2 km from Marienplatz in front of metro line - hotel was great, located not far to Marienplatz can go walking, breakfast was good, parking was a little difficult since it's needed to use elevator for car, hotel was overbooked so there was a lot of people in front desk waiting for room assignment, we waited 10 minutes to get room key, staff were friendly, hotel was clean.
- Andy (10/5): Nice place, close to train station - We only stayed one night in a family room, the room was clean and ready for our stay. The bathroom was clean and large enough. We stayed for breakfast, it was simple and reasonably priced (7Euro per adult).
Overall we were quite happy with our stay and would stay again.
- Seth (10/5): A+ - Nice little spot and the WiFi worked perfectly.
- nigel (2/5): No air conditioning - It was too hot, the bed was uncomfortable, the shower drain was blocked, the pillows were bumpy
- Mikael (4/5): - No AC in the room. Extra charge for card payment. The room was not cleaned so we had to change. Find another hotel.
- Harry (8/5): Fair price for this part of Berlin - Great location near tram station. Quiet. Room was warm and windows didn't open far enough to get airflow - so it was stuffy. Not enough outlets. But overall it was a good experience.
- JMB21 (6/5): Munich Adventure - The hotel was clean, but the wi-fi was terrible. The bed was uncomfortable and the room was a little chilly, The location was awesome with the train station only being about a 10 minute (probably less) walk away.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quick sleep over very convenient - Emergency stop due to bad weather in Germany, great place close to the main station
- Wong (4/5): More description and photo in the hotel. com. - The hotel is very very bad and the hotel.com no more description about the hotel. I feel disappointed about hotel condition and the hotel.com.
- Ai Lan (8/5): Good location for such a rate - It is very close to the train station at such a good rate, a walking distance from the lobby to the train station only take me 8 mins walk. The elevator is working.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Munich hotel - Hotel was clean, cheap and easywalking distance to the train station. Neighbor was not the best.
- Danut Mihai (10/5): Good choice - Super hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): ideal for us - Staff very friendly and helpful. Beds very comfy
- Verified traveler (4/5): Wouldn't recommend. - Dirty, disheveled, staff was indifferent. Elevator not working (was obvious that it was not working for a very long time) and six floors is a long way with luggage. No evidence of anyone even trying to fix the elevator.
- Greg (6/5): - Facilities: Basic; Value: Over-priced; Service: Polite; Cleanliness: Clean;
- Verified traveler (8/5): close to the central train station - although we got the 4th floor, out of 6, and there is no elevator, I still minimize my discomfort, as they are installing an elevator. it seems it will be available in a short time.
- E.E (6/5): A&O's Review - Great location if you stay in the main train station ( Haputbahnoff) area which is by the hub of Munchen. You have to trade that for a slow and so& so service at this hostel. Our rooms were never cleaned in our two day stay neither were our beds tendered. If you are a younger traveller who doesn't not mind much about it, this is your place to stay and save paying cash.
- Sarah (2/5): Poorly run, regularly overbooks rooms - Very bad experience. Arrived at 11:00pm as a family of four, exhausted after several flight delays flying from the states. The hostel was overbooked and they had given our room away (despite the fact it was pre-paid). Shortly, the room filled up with other couples and another family of four with the exact same situation. There was only one clerk on duty, his English was not great, and he was completely overwhelmed. It took 1.5 hours for him to locate another hotel that could accommodate us. As we left, there were still several other people in the lobby needing the same service.
While we waited, I used their restrooms which were dirty and out of toilet paper. Another guest in the lobby who did have a room was describing dirty rooms and not enough bathrooms for the number of guests. Do not stay here.
The only saving grace was that the hostel did pay for the taxi and the other hotel, which turned out to be quite nice. However, we didn't get to sleep until 1:00am - just not what we needed or expected after a long travel day.
- Ravi (2/5): Terrible experience - Got to hotel at 1 pm at AO HOTEL near Central station. With only one customer in queue, I had to wait for 20 minutes before I got her attention. Then she says, "sorry, but we are overbooked and hence we have shifted you to our other hotel short distance away", which was 4 stop away by tram and involves buying a city pass for my family, additional time and cost for me. I asked how can you just shift me, she says it is done by reservation, you may complain to them. Considering that we were alredy exhausted and with all luggage, I gave in and went to the other hotel by cab (paid by AO).
I reached second hotel at around 2 pm, where a huge crowd was waiting and took me 30 minutes to check in. I asked for possible early checkin, but was told not possible. I waited for 30 minutes in lobby, and at 3 pm I was told room is ready. I go to my room with al luggage and find that room is not made with bed sheets and towels lying around. I went back to reception, who promptly came to check and in 5 minutes gave me a new room right next to it.
I go in and find that 2 beds are made , but other two children beds are not made, nor sheets provided and pillows were without covers. Again I went to reception and raise the problem, a house keeper comes in is very annoyed that I am asking for the sheets. He says you have to pay for the new sheets. I explained that I have paid for 4 persons. I finally got the covers but as per hostel rule, we have to make the bed ourself!!!
- Luis (2/5): Poor - Not to repeat.
- Garry (8/5): Good location - Friendly staff, clean room, good location close to centre and station
- hubare (8/5): Great location, everything you need! - This hostel is - for me - perfectly situated right next to the central station, which for a foreigner was what I was looking for. Germany's transport is as efficient as you'd expect with the main hubs along those several train stops in the middle of the map. The staff were very pleasant, even when they had 11 men from the festival to contend with. The rooms (family rooms) we had were clean (mine was very spacious and had a balcony) and comfortable. All in all I'd definitely recommend Munich and this hostel in particular.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice hotel, right in centre of Munich - Basic, clean hotel right next to all major transport links and reasonable walking distance to local attractions
- Scott (10/5): Great Value, Great Access - We chose this hotel for two reasons. First, we were going to spend plenty of money on Christmas festivities saving money on the hotel was great. Second, we were coming from an overnight flight and arriving by train so wanted an easy access from the Hauptbahnhof with suitcases. The A&O was clean, safe and close to the Zentrum. Our family room was perfect for four of us who were hardly ever there anyway. Breakfast was good and the staff was friendly and helpful. They offer a free walking tour twice each day (we didn't go but it is a nice benefit).
- Roberta (8/5): Fantastic location - We are extremely happy with our room and location was the best!!
- Ned (8/5): good location and great service - Was close to the places I wanted to visit in Munich
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location at a great price - Hotel was walking distance to main train station and main square. We had a family room which had a bunk bed and two twins and a bathroom. It even had a balcony. It was perfect for our family. Much better than some of the more expensive places we'd stayed at in Europe. Staff was helpful and there is a little snack shop and bar in the lobby with free wifi. Even though it was on main street, our room was quiet since it face a courtyard.
- Abbas (4/5): Convenient location - this is the ONLY advantage - A very basic hotel with very basic facilities. Rooms are old, toilets are also very tacky, not enough lighting in the rooms. Lifts are very old and very basic. Paid a very high price for this hotel, compared to the facilities provided. Would not stay there again, neither would I recommend this hotel to others.
The internet was free but it kept coming and going, not consistent, specially the 2nd day of my stay.
- Susi (8/5): Clean, reasonable, convenient - Worked for grandmother and three teenage grand daughters for our 4 nights in Munich.
- gmc (8/5): Great hotel - terrible car park garage - Great room. Fab value. Good staff. The car garage is awful. You have to bring your car down in a lift. It is just too small for an estate car and I scratched my bumper badly trying to reverse the car into the small car cradle. Fine if you have a small car but an expensive trip for me.
- David (8/5): Clean/friendly staff/excellent location for price! - For the price and the location I would recommend this hotel and probably will stay here again someday. The only drawback was no AC and during our 5 days in Munich they were having unusually hot temps even above normal for July. The staff was very friendly, spoke near perfect English and the rooms were clean all for less than half what we paid for other hotels during our European vacation. Although only two stops by subway, we walked daily to the Marienplatz/city center maybe 12-15 minutes and walked everywhere we went from here. Have enjoyed several visits to Munich over the last 23 years and it never disappoints. Had a great time, once again!!
