• Tatooine (10/5): Very good hotel near a Métro station - Two colleagues of mine and I booked three rooms in this cosy hotel, which had recent works inside to improve its services. I can testify that, within its category, it's a very good hotel despite the previous reviews and the fact that we have been told that the quarter is not nice. My room was very clean and everything was working. The staff is professional and very friendly. I recommend this hotel.

• lxs_dendrinos (8/5): Nice stay, good location - We had a nice stay at Exarchion. The hotel is a little outdated, but generally clean and cosy. It has a wonderful terrace on the roof, with a nice view across the whole city. We had the surprise of finding an apartment instead of a triple room. The rooms aren`t that small as I had expected. There is daily cleaning, changing of the sheets and there is a nice breakfast for those who have chosen it as a meal plan: boiled eggs, cheese, ham, marmelade, toast, coffee, orange juice, water. The staff is a little bit "cranky", but I have nothing bad to say about them. They are hard working people. The area is filled with Police, so you shouldn`t have to fear, there is a variety of bars, shops and restaurants nearby with relatively good prices. The Acropolis is close, as well as Omonia Square. I would come back here, that`s for sure. I love Athens!

Bathroom old hand held shower with shower curtain. Extremely noisy place with traffic and people. Breakfast very average, location is good that's about all that's going for it. • christopher (6/5): - The hotel is in a good location. However, the facilities are quite old and not in good condition. The fridge is actually not working and shower is broken. The restaurant is rarely good and the services are nice as well.

The local is convenient to get to various attractions, but there are cops stationed outside of the front door, so it may not be in a safe area. The beds in our room are not clean. There are bed bugs. We complained to the front desk and the guy just asked us to move to another room! Check your bed and pillows next time you stay in this hotel,
• themalteseslayer (6/5): Not best stay but stull enjoyed it - The staff were really nice especially the male receptionist. Upon arrival he gave me two keys and told us (my mum, sis and I) to choose which one we liked most. Once we were heading back to the airport he called us and thought we left one if the bags at the hotel. Even though it was not ours, my family and I really appreciate it the fact that he took time and called us. Shows great dedication and care! What I did not like: 1. Breakfast was always the same, either crossiant, cereal or bread. There were no toasters or variety of gluten free products. 2. Shower was very small (less than 1m by 1m) and shower cubicle not well attached. Plus toilet and sink were exactly next to each other which caused discomfort especially for the feet. 3. It's neighbourhood was not the best neighbourhood. It was protected by guards in case of a riot. ______________________________________________ Apart of having nice staff, the beds were really comfortable. Next to it, there is a small shop which sells pizza, burgers and hot dogs. There are also some restaurants and cafes nearby.
• Hester (8/5): Great location!! - Loved the location, anyone that says the area isn’t great just need to get out a bit more. Was easy walking distance to the sights, and the amount of great restaurants on the street is fantastic. Immense vegan options nearby. The hotel is simple yet comfortable. The bathrooms could use updating. Good working aircon (not noisy). I visited with my teenage daughter and felt safe at all times. Our room was overlooking the street on 2nd floor and we didn’t notice any nighttime noise, which I have seen mentioned.

• Jennifer Marie (8/5): - Check-in was a seemless process. The room was clean, but the shower only has a curtain and a very shallow wall surrounding it. It wouldn't have been an issue if the shower drain wasn't a bit clogged; water ran over the short wall into the bathroom drain. I liked the breakfast that was included; it wasn't super fancy, but they had hard boiled eggs which I appreciated. Also liked the roof top balcony. Just be aware that this hotel is in the city center section of Athens and very noisy at all hours of the night; I had trouble sleeping.

It is possible to admire the landscape from the roof top on the 7 floor, terrace in wich you can also eat or drink providing you by the bar of the hotel. Location is good, near to the Acropoli and the mains archeological sites. Near Aioulou Way , where you can find shops, bar, cafe and restaurants. It's a zone with nightlife and daily life, music, no stop.

• MitchC5959 (4/5): Standard - Decent location in Athens is the only positive about this review. Outdated room that was fine for sleeping which to be fair was cleaned every day. Staff couldn’t crack a smile and didn’t make an effort to engage which didn’t feel very welcoming at all.

• Malin (8/5): Hotel in a lively area - Perfectly ok hotel, a bit dated but had everything I needed. The room was cleaned daily. It was quite a lot of noise from the bars and food places outside in the evenings. Definitely not in a tourist area which I liked but felt safe walking around in the evening.
• Verified traveler (10/5): Don't miss this hotel in Athens - The hotel was cozy and clean. It had a REAL balcony to place a table and two chairs to take tea, meal or wine. I really love its style!! It locates not very very very convenient to the traffic but in a district where the norms were living. 5 minutes on foot then reach the bus station where you can take the bus to Syntama Square in 20 minutes if no traffic jam. The breakfasts were good. Shops, bars, cafe and restaurants can be found in 1 to 4-minute on foot distance. I like this hotel so so much!

Decent filling breakfast which included croissants, jams and butter, breadrolls with cheese and ham, boiled egg and fruit including coffee and fresh orange juice. To be honest the area is a bit shabby but will definitely suggest this for a weekend in Athens

Des restaurants pas cher et bons et un quartier animé. L'hôtel est accueillant, le personnel serviable. Seuls points négatifs la salle de bain trop petite et la literie très dure.

• FRANCKLIN (8/5): EFFICACE ET PAS CHER - Chambre vieillotte qui mérite un sacré rafraîchissement. La salle de bain date d’une autre époque et la douche est avec un rideau qui colle à la peau. La literie n’est pas terrible. Le quartier est très populaire et vivant. L’hôtel est situé a environ 10 minutes du métro Omonia, c’est facile. Personnel très accueillant et sympathique.
• Marios (8/5): Felt good place... - In the middle of a tear gas riot we approached the hotel... At first very dissapointing... BUT... We had a very good time and our room will become a future love nest. All this changed from the warmth of the people, the lively surroundings, the history that the place carries, the coziness of the place, the sun that filled the room in the morning and a breakfast in bed from a very caring staff.
• holgarn (4/5): If you like Police surveilance 24/7, here you are! - The hotel is simple but ok. What I did not like is police forces in front of the door 24/7, guarding a place which has a lot of conflicts every night. Every second night I had to close the window because of teargas and they use a lot of flash-bang grenades. Hotel is safe but around the corner you can get in trouble quite fast. I recomend to check better the history of a neighborhood before, than I did.

• robertpM9306LW (4/5): The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - I am amazed at the positive reviews for this property. I have traveled to over 30 world countries and never stay above a three star location. My reason for this is that I rarely am in my room for more than overnite to sleep, most of my day is spent touring. I basically have a few simple qualities to look for in choosing a hotel. One, it must be close to public transportation; two, it must include a buffet breakfast in the reservation price, and three, it must have an ensuite bathroom and air-con if my visit is during a warm season. So her goes: The Good: the place is fairly clean. There is one lonely cleaning lady and the place though a bit run down, has clean floors and she cleaned the rooms, made the bed and emptied the trash every day. I never saw her sanitizing commonly touched areas. Most staff did not wear masks at any time. The location is good for great restaurants and quick meals. There is a gyro restaurant almost directly across the street, that sells amazing gyros for only 2.5 euros. The Bad: Though it advertises a buffet breakfast, that is no longer the case. They offer the SAME EXACT BREAKFAST every day. It consists of a smashed down toasted sandwich, the thickness of a cracker, consisting of 2 slices of white bread with one slice of thin ham, and one slice of cheese. You also get 2 small croissants with jam and butter, a paper cup of orange juice and a cup of coffee(of your choice). No refills!!!! I asked one morning if I could have something different and the waitress responded that I could have "just cheese on my sandwich" if I wanted HAHA. No salt, pepper or condiments were offered. The location is very noisy. The street noise is horrible. I had to sleep with noise cancelling earbuds in all night playing white noise and it still did not block the street sounds. The hotel is extremely noisy even when not particularly crowded. None of the floors are carpeted and people use this place as an overnight location I guess to catch transport the next morning. Ignorant people begin rolling their suitcases down the floor at 6 AM. Since the place is a "Bohemian" location, it attracts a more eccentric crowd. A man played his guitar and mandolin in his room on my floor for hours at a time beginning at 7 AM and ending sometimes after 11PM. My room was located directly across from the elevator door which was slammed constantly throughout the night. The hotel is supposed to be non-smoking, but cigarette smoke permeated the floor. The location contrary to other reviews is not an easy walk from Omonia Metro Station. It is a fairly long distance, with very uneven sidewalks that are extremely narrow. If you are wheeling a suitcase, you need to do it in the street, which is very busy and dangerous. The Ugly: Two men worked the front desk, one the morning shift, the second the afternoon and evening shift. The morning man was just plain rude and mean. I would walk to a table to be served breakfast and he not even greet me, plus he would allow me to sit and do nothing. Finally I just started finding the waitress myself to get my breakfast. I would walk in the lobby and he would make eye contact and just ignore me. The hotel requires that you drop off your key before you leave---something that is fairly standard in Europe. I left one afternoon and no one was at the desk. I left my key there---there is no drop box, ran out for lunch, I came back and no one was at the desk, yet the lobby door was wide open to the street. My key was still on the lobby desk. Anyone from the street could have slipped in, taken my key, robbed my room and left the building. Though the area is diverse, trendy and a little rundown, I walked around at all hours and felt very safe. This being said, while in the area of Omonia Station, I was pickpocketed and had my mobile phone stolen. I asked the second front desk manager for guidance and he just shrugged his shoulders and told me that it happens all the time. Would stay here again? No. I would recommend some of the hotels right on Omonia Square--pay a little more for a nicer experience!

• HenknAnnie (8/5): Excellent location for many major attractions and well priced rates. - We stayed at the Exarchion hotel for seven days recently and enjoyed the stay. The room was a good size, air conditioned, a refrigerator and plenty of storage space. Good size bathroom too, the only drawback being the small shower with curtain. The breakfasts were included and offered juices, cold meats, eggs, fruit, breads and a modern coffee machine. As items were used, replacements were provided immediately. Reception is staffed continuously and were very helpful in offering advice on things to see and do, even giving us a map of the area and marking up where to go. We walked to the Archeological Museum (very impressive!), Parliament (changing of the Guard), the Athens University, Library, and the Australia / New Zealand / United Kingdom World war 2 memorial. There is nearby access to the hop-on hop-off busses and the metro (to the Acropolis) is a short walk away. The environs are very interesting to say the least. As there is a university nearby there are many young people milling around the many bars and restaurants and the whole place was a buzz to be in. We noted some remarks by other reviewers about demonstrations and signs on sheets hung up in the Exarchion Park next to the hotel, but we were never harassed by anyone, even late at night. Should we ever visit Athens again we'll be staying here again!

• Bonozevolik (6/5): It needs some refurbishment / Necesita mejorar - We stayed for three nights in this conveniently-situated hotel. The front desk agent in the afternoon shift was very helpful and nice. Breakfast is basic, but we didn’t expect much. In regards to the room, the mattress (at least in room 603) needs to be replaced as it is super soft and uncomfortable. Water temperature was good at all times but the sink was always with bugs and ants despite the room being cleaned everyday. I can’t believe housekeeping didn’t see this problem. I don’t think we will recommend this hotel if you’re looking for a pleasant sleep. Location is great though. —— Nos alojamos tres noches en este hotel que está muy bien situado. • bethm684 (10/5): Genuine Experience - Great location to experience the less touristy Athens life but also amazingly close to Omonia and transport, as well as other tourist hotspots! Loads of nearby excellent eateries, and I felt quite safe as a solo young female traveller despite the ongoing prolitical protests and placement away from the main hotels of Athens. I was able to see the more residential Athenian life, walk to most places or the train, and have great food. Only downside was the include breakfast wasn't hugely elaborate but nearby bakeries, cafes and restaurants more than made up for this! Room had all that was promised and I had no issues with it at all.

• thurin (8/5): See everything and rest - Hotel is situated in the centre of Athens, not far from Acropol, Syntagma Squere, National Archeological Muzeum, Lycabettus Hill so you can see all atraction by walking. There are many restaurants around the hotel. Nice place no doubdt. Quite big and clean rooms. Hotel offers breakfast included and wifi.

• Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient hotel in a poor neighbourhood - Convenient location for the centre but not the classiest area. the burning bins and presence of riot police on the first night was not very reassuring. The hotel was comfortable with reliable wifi and an adequate breakfast.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Gutes Hotel, kritische Umgebung - Das Viertel Exarchion ist ziemlich arm. Deshalb sind die Restaurants auch sehr günstig und das Essen ist super!!! Auch ist das Viertel sehr bekannt! Allerdings hat es hier viele Drogenverkäufer und in das Viertel darf keine Polizei rein, sonst gibt es nur Probleme. Es kam zu einem Zwischenfall wo die Polizei eingreifen musste und da wollte man einfach nur weg, da die Situation eskalierte. Uns passierte nichts, ich wollte einfach schnell ankommen um nicht draussen herumlaufen zu müssen. Im Hotel habe ich mich sicher gefühlt. Ich war mit einer Freundin unterwegs. Das Zimmer war auch sauber und das WLAN funktionierte sehr gut. Das Frühstück war für uns genügend. Unser Zimmer war direkt an der Strasse und man hörte die ganze Nacht Musik von den Clubs.

• Richard (8/5): Liked the neighborhood - Look, this is a party spot. There are people gathering in the park next store daily. Some people might love this environment. Others might hate it. I had a great time at this hotel. Loved the location. There is late night food and bars and plenty of *eclectic* people in the park to hang with. I never felt insecure.

• Lana (8/5): Comfortable stay - Nice hotel, comfortable stay. Close to the archaeological museum (about 7 min walk) which is the closest hop on-hop off bus stop. We had a nice view of Acropolis from our room, and also on the rooftop terrace, which is very nice to relax out on. The staff were great, and helped with directions and translations. A few gyros shops, cafes, and convenience stores on the street. Only downside is probably the rowdiness and noise of the location, although did not feel unsafe, had a lot of night activity and noise on the street.

• Verified traveler (10/5): - We love this area!!!! Tourists can. W frightened of the Exarchia area at first visits. However, if anyone wants to experience the socio-political side of Athens, this is the epi-center. Exharchia hotel is a perfect lil hotel, always clean and always welcoming.
• Abrie (6/5): Good location, nice room - The location is great, all the main attractions are within a reasonable walking distance. The area has some bars and clubs, for me the noise was noticeable but definitely not too bad, I guess it depends on how sensitive you are. The room has good wifi and a mini fridge and a large bed and a balcony, overall nice and comfortable. The front desk staff were nice and friendly, unfortunately the cleaning lady was always rude and seemed angry, otherwise I would have given the hotel a higher rating.
• Liane (4/5): Very basic with unfriendly staff - Reception staff was not friendly at all. When asked if we could get a kettle to boil water in the room, we were told to bring a glass to the cafe next door to get hot water! When we asked if a taxi can be called for us to the airport, we were told to walk to the street to hail one ourselves!!
• Joe (2/5): WORST HOTEL EVER - Across the street from the Hotel was a OPEN AIR ROOFTOP NIGHT CLUB WITH A BAND Very VERY HIGH VOLUME till 3:30 in the morning (so much so that Management offered EAR PLUGS) To make it worse we were on the 6th (top Floor) and the concrete roof had metal tables and chairs witch were being dragged around till very late, because of the concrete echoed through the room.
• David (8/5): Helpful staff - I was unable to use the bathroom in my room. When I reported this they immediately offered me another room. Also, when my wallet containing money was stolen on the Metro the receptionist was very helpful.

• Brandon (8/5): Affordable, near some great restaurants. - Hotel Exarchion was affordable and near some great restaurants. The restaurant Atitamos is just around the corner and I had a great dinner there. The included breakfast was pretty decent hostel-style food. The shower was not glamorous, but it's functional. The bed was clean and comfortable. My favorite part was having a balcony with a view of the plaza. I put my chair out on the balcony to read in the afternoon/evening. The worst part was that the hotel lobby and hallway smelled like cigarettes, which was gross, but the room smelled fine. Aside from the lobby smell, the room was really decent for the price, and the location is pretty good.

The area was almost hostile.Because of youth unemployment in Athens there is crime, drugs,prostitution and homelessness on the streets.I never felt safe during this stay.I was also cautioned by a restaurant manager about the crime.The local area is the home of a wonderful archeological museum but I do not think anyone should be staying in Athens at this time.Athena is sick and needs to get better!

• Colin (4/5): Nice area but basic place - Pros: Lots of good restaurants and bars in the area. Cons: Room was basic enough, beds are hard and bathroom pretty small. Staff at reception were not very welcoming and nothing in the way of maps or guides about the area.
• noel (10/5): Nice hotel close to bars/cafes - I loved this hotel. I stayed for 4 nights and i loved it. Its surrounded by so many bars and cafes. the room was always clean and always smelt good. The breakfast was nothing big but you get what you pay for. It was right in the heart of a younger noisy crowd. If you don't like noise do not stay at this hotel. Noise doe snot bother me so i didn't mind it.

• Onur (8/5): Interesting Experience - The hotel is in Exarchia region. This region inhabited by socialists, hippies, bohemians etc. Everybody is free and respectful. If you have a motorbike, you can easily find a park place :)
• Wil (6/5): Noisy room but good location - Nice hotel and great location: 12 min walk to Omonia (closest subway station). In all honesty my ONLY complain is the noisy in the rooms. If you are a light sleeper like I am you will not be able to sleep here. My room was on the third floor facing the street and it was bad! Busy street AND there is a bar across the street that plays music up until 6am. Hotel would benefit a look from sound proof windows. With that being said, this is the only reason why I wouldn't recommend this hotel

• Verified traveler (8/5): For the 24/7 type of adventurer. - The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was limited in scope and the coffee a filtered brew but nice and strong. There is a bar downstairs if you feel like hanging out in the hotel - but there are so many food options, bars and shops in this area that you will more likely be overwhelmed by options. The wall mounted A/C was icy cold and having the balcony made the room a pleasant place to hang out. Housekeeping was stellar. Still, this neighborhood is for the expert traveler who does not need any special treatment. There are two spots in front of the hotel for parking and parking on the busy street is really your only convenient option in this area that is very crowded with pedestrians at all times. Practically every building in this area is covered in graffiti and there is a lot of live music at night. It's a short walk to the metro and just a couple stops to the Acropolis. I had an incredibly great time during my stay and would not hesitate to go back.
• seri (6/5): Convenient but noisy - Checked in after midnight and the reception on night duty gave us a room on the first floor. The music from the bar across the road and road traffic noise was blaring into the room. Avoid room 104 at all costs. We tried to change rooms at 2am but the receptionist didn't seem to care about our situation and said that it's like that. The following morning, we tried our luck again and thankfully the day reception gave us a room on level 6. The road noise was faint, but the music was still quite loud, and the walls are paper thin. Also, the WiFi connection was super slow, and the floor hadn't been cleaned, probably why they give complimentary slippers.
• funkdfyed (8/5): Excellent Value in Great Neighborhood - I loved the Exarchion - i came back for a second stay, actually. For the price, you can't beat this place's comfort or location in Athens. Exarcheia is a fabulous neighborhood, with great cafes and bars, excellent proximity to main sites. The hotel itself is older, but the rooms were recently renovated and exquisitely clean, with comfortable beds, a desk, and considerable space for 2. Most if not all rooms have balconies facing on to the park. House keeping staff did a great job; desk staff was 24hr, friendly and courteous. When i checked in, they couldn't find my reservation initially, but the nice man took me at my word, gave me a key and sent me on up to my room while he continued looking through his records. Wifi's fine.
• Jessica (2/5): So bad we had to leave and find another hotel. - This was a complete shock to arrive to. I'd booked it for me and my three friends to stay our last night in Athens after a beautiful trip to the greek isles where we'd found great hotels through this same website. We arrived and were shocked to find this hotel has been rated 5/5 on hotels.com. The neighborhood is covered in graffiti and falling apart at the seams. The old elevator in the hotel's lobby is so small it was too terrifying to get in and we were forced to walk to our sixth floor room. Then the rooms themselves were beyond shoddy and darkly lit. The A/C barely worked and it looked like nothing had been touched or updated in 15 years. It honestly reminded me of the cheap hostels/pensions I'd stayed in when I went to Europe as a teenager straight out of high school. After one of my travel mates looked online to reviews and saw that someone had recently spotted bed bugs at the hotel (within the last two weeks), we actually packed our belongings back up immediately and returned to the lobby. It's unfortunate that with this website you pay in advance because it meant that we took a loss on the night but we HAD to leave after reading the reviews and seeing the rooms. It would maybe work for young travelers looking to spend little to no money on hot, cramped rooms but my travel mates and I couldn't fathom staying the night. Unfortunate overall.

• Verified traveler (10/5): If it's the neighborhood you want, perfect - If you are looking to stay around the acropolis with your grandchildren I wouldn't recommend it, but if you want to stay in the more hip neighborhood, bit still within easy distance of the tourist sites, I totally recomend it. Tons of bars and cafes around. Think Williamsburg or shoreditch. Also, ask for a room on a higher floor, nice balconies and views.
• Meredith (6/5): good for a short stay - The hotel was in a bad neighborhood, but there seemed to be a decent night life surrounding the area for young people (under college age). There was a lot of graffiti and dogs barking in the area. The beds were small and very hard but there was a balcony and small tv with channels in english and greek. The shower was really nice, I'd recommend this hotel for a short stay or if traveling with student aged kids.
