Guest Reviews
- parpanathapalavesam (4/5): Need an urgent face lift!!! - The Royal City Hotel is a large hotel which is quite old and all the rooms need an urgent upgrade or face lift. The room is big and there is a strange smell in the room, s=not sure what it was. One good think about the Hotel is the buffet breakfast which is quite expansive with many varieties including bread / egg / omlette.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Ok if you need to stay in the area as it seems to be the best hotel around
But it’s old but functional
- truongv751 (2/5): Terrible Hotel. - The first time i come and stay this hotel for 2 nights, room is it okie, you won't connect wifi in room, they tell me free wifi but you can't. breafast very crazy, nothing to eat, and i have order 2 eggs, but staff you say no. oh my god, i pay room with breakfast, why? my family 3 pax.
The worst hotel i have ever stayed at in my life.
Houseking go to my room, but she don't knock the door.
i never come back this hotel. service is too poor.
- Rebra89 (4/5): Not so good - Arrived in the hotel 6 am and asked for early check in, I was charged 1000 baht extra which I understand. Is hotel policy.
During the check in there was not given any information. Receptionist informed just that I have to pay extra for the early check in and nothing else
But for 87 dollars is not worth. There is no internet in the rooms, the bathtub very dirty and hair in the bathtub.
Breakfast was good however there is no care about costumers at all.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Not best. Still good enough.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible - I stayed one night for 2rooms. They are So dirty, air conditioner doesn’t work, water flood in bathroom
Finally I ask for other room but they are almost the same.
- Iris3194 (6/5): So so - I came there without any searching. And the most impressive thing was no wifi in the room, just at the lobby. I wondered how a big hotel couldn't provide wifi. Bangkok is a modern city, and this hotel is located here, how come? The decoration was okay, breakfast was so so, not many choices.
- AliceNguyen43 (2/5): Terrible hotel - The first time I come and stay in this hotel. My impression is very bad. The bellman is not enthusiastic. You won’t connect wifi if you sit in your room. Breakfast very poor. I can not find anything to look ok ok. Staff joking, talk loudly. A man in a suit does not smile at the guest, wipes his desk with a towel and goes to the place where I do not have permission to do anything. I feel not respected. If you want to throw your money, you can come and feel.
- Terry (10/5): - Very welcoming staff and helpful. Older style hotel showing its age but comfortable.
- lc3nt (2/5): Worst hotel ever stay - This hotel design is Super outdated.
1st inside room. Still using design that are dated back to the 90s. Control at side bed small desk. Hot/ warm water only start to come after on for awhile during shower. Air-con also centralised only able to control fan from high to Low.. can’t even choose our own prefer temperature. room no wifi. Only at lobby have wifi. In this modern ere, how can hotel don’t provide wifi in room. Even cheap/Budget hotel provide this service
2nd total 3 lift but during peak timing u have to wait especially if u stay at highest floor. (I stay on 21st floor need to wait 10-15min - some pple wait for about 30min before able to get lift to go down lobby. Because all those lower floor rushing for their tour bus.).. worst thing while waiting is the lift area, can’t feel any cold air.. in side lift Aso same hot, especially when lift is full of people.
given another change will nv choose this hotel even again..
Lastly the stuff there not very approachable, nv smile. Put on Long face as if we other them.
Was inform to Ensure that the bed are clean when check in if not we will be charge for dirtying their bed during check out.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Not far from Central. Good for breakfask. More car park.
- Francis (6/5): Sad@Bangkoknoi - No wifi in room, only in lobby. No airport dropoff/pickup service. Old facilities, poorly maintained. Service is slow and not helpful at times. Location is okay.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Soul_Traveler808 (2/5): Nasty attitudes - I could over look the age of the hotel, eventhough they do need a major Renovation. But i can't over look the horrible staffs attitudes, (except for the bellboy, doorman, and the security guards outside, these people were extremely nice & friendly). Worst of the bunch were the so-called 'floor managers' they're men that wear dark colored suits and ties, walking around like with their nasty attitudes. This hotel would be a much better hotel without these lower grade managers. I'll have to give this horrid pit a ZERO star. (PS. For this hotel staffs, Please do not contact me, I don't want to hear from you! Good bye!)
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Mark (6/5): You get what you pay. - I think with the rate of 1600 after tax that I paid for the room was ok for the room I got. Overall was not bad if you just want to have a good sleep. Other facility like swimming pool or sauna was not as good, and I didn't want to use it. The room was comfortable and the staff was helpful. It's basically an old hotel and facility is not as new. 3/5 from me.
- Lifeisgood2812 (2/5): Not food hotel for business trip/leisure. - We spent 4 nights here just last week. I’ll try to be as objective as possible. Firstly, upon check in, we were asked to deposit 1000 baht for the room key. Even though they have the option of charging it through my credit card, they still insisted on the cash basis. First inconvenience, as think if it is your last day in Thailand, where else will you be able to spend the 1000 cash if you’re leaving the country. The shift supervisor was rude as well. Second inconvenience, NO WIFI signal in the rooms. It has a barely limited radius which is within the lobby area only. Third, the rooms are old. It smells like old, damped carpet. The bath tubs aren’t properly cleaned. The television set channels are too limited. To sum it up, disappointing.
What’s good about the hotel? The buffet breakfast. They change menus everyday.
Overall, if they can only listen to the reviews and improve the necessary things to change, there’s so much potential in this hotel. But for now, we can only hope for the best.
- Michael (10/5): Art Deco Classic - If your looking for new fabulous this is not that place. This hotel is regal with character. It is an older property with lots of charm and friendly staff. When we pulled up to the hotel the staff went out of their way to grab my bags and help me into the hotel. Once inside, l had the feeling of nostalgic dark woods and crystal glass with a hint of Art Deco. A very pretty lobby with a small welcoming bar and larger room where people were preforming karaoke. The other end of the lobby was the restaurant and an inviting Chinese restaurant. Upon entering my room l noticed it had a nice big space to it, a modern TV and a classic bathroom with Art Deco lighting. A small refrigerator was in the closet area but no microwave. I liked the bedding, a top/sheet blanket and a reasonably soft mattress, sometimes hard to find. A plus that not many hotels have thought of was that all the controls for the ac, lightning were in the front of the middle nightstand. Very kool. This hotel also had a nice workout area and a really nice pool area. 1000 Baht deposit, overall l cannot find a great deal to complain about this hotel. As l said it is old, the carpets need replacing but the charm makes up for it. My only negative was when l approached the front desk girl for the password she extended her hand out to the reference guide on the desk. If she would have took my phone and put it in for me, it would have made my day, but that's just me.
- luciacM1521GP (6/5): Nice deco - I stayed here for 3 days of my business trip and love it at some extents. It's not a new hotel, or i should say that it's an old one. But its decorations and design are very nice, useful, and smart, especially for its bathroom. Staffs here are quite nice even many of them don't communicate well in English as expected. But i hope that in case i will stay here again i can see the Garden cafe serve the different and plentiful breakfast. One more point: that's my unlucky chance to be here while there's too many Chinese tourists. I guess they're at a same group because they acted and behaved similarly as always which made us feel terrible each time we get into the hotel's small elevators or waiting at the lobby. If the hotel somehow can manage their guests to make the atmosphere peaceful for all their customers, it will be better view.
- Ryan (8/5): Nice hotel, accessible. - Fast check-in. The furniture are a bit old but still in a good shape. Will go there again.
- KrisG894 (2/5): Worst hotel - Worst hotel, I booked this hotel through agoda and mentioned early check in. After I reached the hotel the reception staff rudely says I need to pay extra..Even after having vacant rooms. I'm a world traveller and never seen such a response with any other hotel. Please never ever stay here.
- Peter (8/5): Big Hotel catering to mainly tourists on coaches - Located on the outskirts of Bangkok but within an hour's ride on aircon bus no.511 (15Baht). Would have been Good value for money for short business trip stay if WiFi was provided free in the rooms.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Old Hotel - Hotel needs serious renovations, bathrooms, carpets
- KNOKS (6/5): Outdated but good service - Stayed here one night just because we wanted to be close to the Southern bus terminal. The staff there were nice and very helpful, they gave us a room on the top floor. The room was outdated and the carpet was dirty. We went to check out the pool and gym room, they looked like no one had used it for quite a long while. There were good selections of breakfast. The hotel is in a very convenient location so if it gets some renovation it would be perfect.
- Lai Foong (6/5): - The front desk speak little English, however they are very friendly. The bell boy are extremely helpful. The room is big but a little rundown.
- Maneesh (8/5): Convenient and clean hotel - Short
- mcgervais (2/5): The WORST hotel I have ever stayed at in my life.... - This is a terrible and incredibly overpriced hotel and on top of that they ask for an obscene 1500 baht deposit. There is no WIFI in your rooms. There was a water kettle but it didn't work. There are stains everywhere that appear to be of some sort of bodily fluid. Everything appears to be decorated in the style of 1950s Soviet Union. There is an odd smell lingering pretty much everywhere. To top in all off, the majority of the guests are rude, noisy Chinese tour groups. If you would like to regret every minute of your stay in Bangkok, please stay here. If not, chose anywhere else. I regret every minute of time I spent here.
- EMERALD914 (4/5): STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL! - Very rustic interiors of the building AND the rooms....actually, close to being in NORTH KOREA 1960s!
Staff service is terrible and not so welcoming or not accommodating at all. NO WIFI IN THE ROOMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE! They say in the lobby, there's the Wifi but for rooms they don't have!
Bottle of water inside the rooms are placed in old-fashioned glass bottles! Pool and gym needs renovations! Filled with Chinese groups all the time who are so noisy. Stay away from this hotel! Value for money isn't achieved! In short, don't book this hotel!
- Nubiliano (4/5): Cheap and big rooms ... nothing more - (wrongly) chosen because of location convenient for my business, it is old, smelly, full of noisy chinese group tours. It must have been nice when it was built but it seems it has not received any maintenance, let alone upgrade, since then. One cannot say it is dirty, but evrything is oily, full of spots/stains and in bad need of a hand of refreshing paint. CRT TV with no more than 10 programmes, INternet on payment. Personnel does not speak english except for few, No iron avilable from house keeping (ironing one suite cost me 5EUR (like in 5 star hotels), group tours make a lot of noise. Cleaning lady lived in the room near mine ... watching TV. Restaurant very poor like breakfast.
- 477gordond (8/5): royal city hotel - I just spent 7 nights in the royal city hotel, I found it a very pleasant and relaxing stay, the staff were always attentive and very pleasant, hotel was very well kept, not as modern maybe as other hotels but very good on the whole
- naphassak0rnn (2/5): Nightmare stay - Terrible !!!!!! Should not call this property that a hotel .... The quality & standard of some guest house are much better than this place. There are no tea and coffee making facilities or mini bar facilities, most of the staff are surly and unsmiling. Everything are extra charge when we asked even though empty coffee cups !!!!
- mackthespoon (4/5): Give it a miss! - We booked this hotel to be close to The Southern Bus Terminal. It looks imposing and probably was 30 years ago. The hotel is generally dim and dowdy and most of the staff are surly and unsmiling. The breakfast was uninviting as the already cooked food was cold! The room was dismal however the sheets were clean but the carpet had quite a few stains on and the tv was something from the 1970's. There are no tea and coffee making facilities or mini bar facilities. The single best feature of our stay was the checkout. Stay elsewhere.
- marksX2041ZK (2/5): Noisy, Crowded, Dated, Poorly Maintained and those are the good points - This hotel caters to the Chinese tourist. Very noisy and loud. Busloads checking in and out and it is a madhouse. During mornings and evenings the elevators are packed. Stayed on 18th floor and the room had a great view but it could take 5 minutes easily, down in the morning. Rooms poorly kept. Light bulbs out in 3 lamps took 2 hours to replace. Hot water is spotty, mostly non existent. Breakfast buffet 2 star. Tube type TV's with poor reception. Wifi is on a card system, two hours for 150 baht (about $4 USD)
Bell staff friendly as is front dest but overwhelmed during peak periods. Any rating over a two is mind boggling. Oh BTW the location is not terrible but out of the way from all major tourist attractions and no Sky train so you will have to use taxi's.
- harshanilb (8/5): OK - Stayed here for 2 night in December 2015 the hotel was ok, but the amenities were all out dated and old. we had a good view but because the window was really dirty we couldn't see outside clearly. Staff was not that friendly apart from the welcome staff (2 porters at the front) they were really friendly and helpful made our stay pleasant.
- judyksp (6/5): OK - Stayed one night because we needed to be close the EENT hospital. Hotel is okay except that there was no tea/coffee making facility (which was a disappointment at the price we paid).
Breakfast is not bad. Have some selection of Western and Asian.
Location near to Central Pinklao and Tesco. Takes about 15 min to walk.
