Guest Reviews
- Bruce (8/5): - Clean and central
- Viditi (2/5): - There was no water in the shower and the basin.
- Hermann (6/5): General - Los recepcionistas muy mal voluntad, y malos tratos.
La cama mala, colchón todo vencido.
Baño bueno, ducha caliente.
Todo muy limpio.
- Khalid A. (6/5): - They do not have refregrator for diabetic ansiline peps to keep on.
- Filomena (4/5): - The only thing I liked about this hotel is the location and proximately to the subway station, restaurants and stores. Staff did a good job of cleaning the room.
The room was dated and moldy, bed was uncomfortable, no hot water, no staff available after the morning, shotty Wi-Fi, only two poor quality towels were provided for the entire day, no hand towels, and no hair blow dryer.
If there was a situation no one was on the premise after the morning cleaning. Not good!
- Alvin (6/5): - No Tea Service in the Room a must for a London Hotel! No Breakfast even though it said Breakfast. No One at the Front Desk.
- Adam (4/5): - Shower stupid. kettle, burnt elements. no milk. Nobody on the desk to try and work things out.
- jason (4/5): - We booked this property as the price was reasonable, we went to check in but nobody was there, there was a post it note on the front door saying go next door for check in which we did and greeted by an extremely rude man, there was mot hot water on the 1st day of stay and the property in my opinion was in a poor state of repair and Very dated however the room was clean here was an extractor fan cover missing in the bathroom exposing live cables amongst other issues, we wanted to report this on our stay but there was no staff at the property, ii reported this to Expedia who I wil say were very helpful in offering us alternative accommodation
- Bryan (4/5): - Wifi was my biggest issue. The connection wasn’t working at certain times.
- John (6/5): - Was ok for the price
- Linda (6/5): - Good location. Needs updating.
Great price.
- Steven (4/5): - Sorry but the property, is dated , needs a freshing up , an upgrade . Nothing is inviting. Stair carpet is tired , the rooms are tired , the bathroom needs clearing , mould is visible. Beds well they needed renewing. Sheets were clean , but the covers are disgusting , they are stained even the replacement one one was bad . Coffee andvtea need looking at , no milk , no spare pillows . . So this hotel need some serious looking at.
- Charles (4/5): You get what you pay for. - No hot water in the bathroom. Not the sink, or the shower. Despite letting it run for an extended period as advised. The bathroom was also filled with mold.
This is a discount, low priced hotel so I don't expect too much. But I just want other people to know what to expect.
- Michael (2/5): - In an area close to Paddington Station , good!
Room had a 2 sq metre piece of carpet which was soaked with water when I walked into the room, and the hot water tap in the shower which was totally non functional.
- Andy (2/5): - Horrible
- Gil (4/5): Worst bed ever - I have traveled a lot for over 20 years. This was the worst bed ever. You could feel the coil spring mattress killing your back and side. It also squeaked with every move.
The shower temperature control spins around without changing the temperature.
- Chi (2/5): - Nothing to like about this hotel.
Straight 3 days and nights without hot water in shower room and the receptionist had gone hiding and nowhere and no one was available to help us. Ring the hotel phone number and no one responded. Completely shameful and careless hotel and should be shut down from providing further service to tourists.
- Jake (2/5): - Do Not book here
- Rhett (4/5): - Room for the most part was fine, not great, smaller than the pictures, really just two heads with a foot in between them. We were right by a busy road, and it was super loud at night, so sleeping was tough. The shower also did not have hot water. Staff was nice.
- Oleg (2/5): Stay away from this hotel! - On October 5, 2024, I booked a room at Normandie Hotel (London, England) for the period of April 5 to April 7, 2025 (2 nights).
Unfortunately, I have serious complaints regarding the quality of service provided during our stay. Upon check-in, we were assigned a room in the basement (Room #2), which was extremely cold. There was no central heating, and the radiators were completely cold. The only source of heat was a small electric heater, which could barely warm up a single square foot of the room. Given that it was early April, the temperature inside was uncomfortably low.
We were given a Wi-Fi password from a different hotel (Seymour Hotel), which did not work in our basement room — there was no signal at all. Most concerning of all, there was no hot water. The water temperature was around 20°C (68°F), which, combined with the cold room, made basic hygiene impossible.
Instead of proper blankets, we found only small pieces of flannel on the beds. As a result, we were freezing throughout both nights of our stay.
We were unable to contact any hotel staff — the building appeared to be completely empty aside from us. Due to the lack of Wi-Fi in the room, we were unable to immediately report these issues. Moreover, after two nights in these conditions, my wife fell ill from the cold, and we were forced to cancel our plans and leave London early.
- Nigel (4/5): Awful- Read The Reviews! - No hot water all stay!!!
No reception out of hours.
Fire alarm at 2am but nobody to check it or cancel the sounders until someone turned up eventually. They cancelled the alarm, apologised, but didn’t stay to see if there was a fire, or if everyone was okay.
- Matthew (8/5): - It was a good hotel for the money.
- Ray (8/5): - It was ok very dated front door was hard to unlock but otherwise ok
- Matthew (2/5): - No hot water in the room. Had clearly been like it a while as the control just span around. I’d accidentally left an item of clothing at the property and in attendance a few days later I was advised they’d thrown it in the bin. So be aware there are no lost and found facilities
- Sol (4/5): - Location is good, v close to Paddington. The room was tiny with very tired carpet that was probably teeming with dirt.
Hot water? Not available, the shower was only warm enough not to gasp - but oh well, good for waking up properly.
When I arrived I didn’t realise that the radiator was merely decorative so my first night was absolutely freezing. In the morning I realised there was an electric heater that I needed to plug.
There was one towel, that I used for my body, face and hands, and also as a bath mat. Thankfully the other two nights more towels magically appeared. Never saw a soul.
For what this hotel is, it is the most expensive hotel in London. I’ve stayed in youth hostels more comfortable than this.
- Tracey Louise (2/5): - Horrible bed, no WiFi no hot water no milk. I am glad I only booked one night
- Roscina (2/5): Old. Rickety bed. No heating. Stained bedding - Great location. But choose somewhere else. The bed spreads were very old and stained. One bed wobbled so much couldn’t sit on it let alone sleep. No flipping hot water. Cold showers in December is not good. No heating and portable heaters not up to much. Mattresses are cheap and old. I got spring marks just sleeping on them. If they just fixed stuff and got half decent mattresses it would be fine for the money. But gees DO NOT BOOK HERE
- Valentina (2/5): - Uninhabitable room with no heat or hot water. Hotel staff not responsive/ not on premises. Left the property as soon as practical am awaiting a refund. Horrific experience.
- David (6/5): - Good location. Hotel rooms were perfectly adequate and not the usual overheated boxes.
- Desmond (2/5): - Bed covers were dirty, bed was terrible, sunk right down to the springs. Central heating not working
- Akar (2/5): - Not good not recommended no have anything
- Zoe (6/5): Not great hotel. - The room is clean, but no kettle and cup or glass to make tea or coffee. And even there’s no Kleenex in the room. The bed was so old that you can feel springs in the bed against your back.
- Barry (2/5): - I want to raise a formal complaint. When I arrived I was given a key for the main door and the a key for the bedroom door. I went out for dinner Sunday. Came back out the key in the main door and didn’t work. I was outside when it was rainy getting soaked till someone came out he done it worked. I tried again in front of him didn’t work. I asked what’s going or doing wrong he said don’t know.
The bedroom itself is on a slant which makes your balance uneasy. The main receptionist is not approachable. They put a kettle, tea and coffee in the room but no fridge so have no where to put the milk fresh. This is more like fawlty towers the phone number on the website no matter what time day or night you call never no answer. I want a full refund and the beds are so outdated it really is unreal
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very basic - Shower control was not attached to shower.
No bath mat.
No wifi.
- fraserGregory (2/5): - The mattresses must be ancient as they completely flattened with the slightest weight, with springs sticking out. 1 Sheet and no covers or duvets. No toiletries no plug tiny towel no te
- Ryan (4/5): - No hot water. No elevator for heavy bags. No staff except for in the mornings when she’s cleaning. Bathroom was falling apart. The water knob in the shower was broken and fell off.
- Martha (2/5): - NO internet despite being told it was going to be available. Had to pay for 3 days of international phone service to use personal hot spot. No breakfast on any day we were there. NO staff available for the entire stay. Called the number on the door 3 times and no answer. Beds were springs mattress with little padding on top. Boards under the memory form on the small bed. Fan made available in room did not have adapter to plug in.
- Dennis (10/5): - No WiFi
- Lakhvir (2/5): - The staff is very bad they don’t listen to you don’t ever go over there they too arrogant and disrespectful
- Peter (8/5): - Easy to check in (but read the "check in before 10pm small print), quiet, clean, friendly staff and excellent location. Overall good value for money.
- Desmond (4/5): - The bed was terrible, almost through to the base, this was room 7
- Fizza (2/5): - Would not let me in even though I had ID
- Terence (2/5): Terrible service - dont stay - Terrible service. No-one at hotel telephone numbers offered did not exist.
Had to wait outside for an hour and only got in through help of another customer who had the same problem. This is not a one off they simply dont care - only stay if you want tk wait ovwr an hour to get in.
- Georgina (2/5): - Very dirty old damaged furniture didn't dare sleep on the bed slept on top bathroom freezing cold shower no hot water no cuuos for rinsing out after teeth cleaning advertised 24hiur reception more like 4 hour reception wished I'd slept/stayed outside to be honest it was way way overpriced would never ever stay there again and would advise others thinking of booking to have another think
- Gloria (4/5): - small, old, towels old
- Tim (8/5): - Nice basic accommodations!
- Brigitte (4/5): - So, we got what we paid for but still.
No staff on site. Beds were very uncomfortable and no consistent hot water.
Pluses - it was safe, the room had a window that opened and the area is beautiful
- Liza (2/5): Never again - This hotel should never be on Hotels.com. The shower stall was the size of London’s telephone booth! Forget about amenities - none at all! We did not have cold water for the 1st 4 days. Reception was not manned 24 hrs, maybe 4 hrs a day only! No staff to report to. The cleaning lady who I happen to bumped into 1 afternoon (3 days after check-in) said it was not just us who are complaining. Other guests complained of the same nature as we saw them waiting at the entry hallway, waiting for any staff to talk/report the matter to. One rainy afternoon, we found guests waiting to check in at the front door. No one answers the phone, they said and they have been waiting!
We will never stay at this hotel ever again nor recommend it to anyone!
- charles (6/5): - good hotel limited staff atfront desk sometimes nobody.Cant understand whey they placed me 6 floors upstaire. There were no occupation on lower floors. My only interaction with staff was the cleaner.
- Kevin (2/5): Never Again - no staff in attendance, no breakfast , no hot water in room
- Richard (2/5): Don’t stay here - ever. - I didn’t get in to stay as they lock their doors at 10pm. They hide this rule behind some link. Why isnt it upfront.
All I can hope is that I get my money back - which they took two days before the stay!!!
- Marrietta De (2/5): - Only provided portable electric heater which is not enough to heat the room at -2degrees. We tried asking for another heater but reception was closed at night. Woke up with staffs talking loudly in the hallway. Water in the shower is either too cold or boiling hot. Was told they have luggage service only to find out luggage should be collected at 1:30pm or else at 10pm as there will be no staff available in the reception.
- Daniel (2/5): - Don't stay here. They should have their hotel license revoked and get reissued a new one for fraud. No reception. Nowhere to sit in the room. No heating. Bathroom sink blocked. Bathroom an ice cave. Moldy shower. I remember now why I only book first night on Expedia never two nights unless I know the property already. I stayed in a great place on Sussex Gardens in September; their neighbours are running lovely hotels. Why can't they. Disgusting. Avoid at all costs.
- Nik (4/5): Poor wifi - Hotel was fine for a budget hotel. What was disappointing was the wifi. Almost no signal and when there was it was ery slow.
- Nagma (4/5): - Wanted a break away from the hustle and bustle of a hectic week at work with my husband, came across this hotel via Expedia, read the reviews some negative some positive, even the price was right. However I did not expect a cold shower!!
Water was cold and when we tried to brave overselves to have a shower the shower tray filled up with water within minutes, this was due to the plug hole being slightly blocked.
When we went out that night, there was no one to tell, so my husband said just leave it as we are only here for 2 nights.
The only 2 things that were good was location and the beds were comfortable.
- April (2/5): - Not a 24/7 Desk. Arrive 11am to leave luggage hotel locked sign only check in 3:30- to? Call number for help. not one answered. Left luggage at another hotel. When I checked in at 3:50pm and said something to desk person he acted like he didn’t understand English even though we were in England. Rude. Room smelled beds from the 1950s view of dead plants and. Brick wall. Total scam on description. If only hotel in London don’t come or sleep at airport. Nasty!
- Alan (2/5): - no one at check out when my son arrived. when he was given a room the bad was so badly broken it could not be slept in, he was given another very small room several floors up (no lift). shower was very dangerous - electric shocks, which he reported. would not recommend at all, cheap and cheerful is one thing - this was a whole other thing!
- Charlotte (4/5): One to avoid - It wasn’t good. Ragged curtains, no towels, the shower didn’t work. On the bed, the thinnest blanket imaginable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I very much appreciated an early checkin after my long flight.
Room was small but okay, bed was soft and comfy.
The shower regulator broke, so the water was either freezing or boiling; I complained multiple times but the issue was never addressed.
I might stay here again if the price was right, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
- Gillian (10/5): Excellent Value for Central London - Excellent value for fairly central London. No frills but very very clean & comforable & excellent out-of-hours-check in service.
Ideally situated for London Tube & buses.
Thank you
- Barbara (2/5): do not stay - absolutely horrendous
not even hot water in the shower is provided
- Charlie (2/5): Don’t stay - Absolutely awful Hotel - Don’t stay here !
- Mike (2/5): - Hotel email bouncing back. Telephone not answered. Door locked and no-one around when we arrived as scheduled at 3.00 pm. Cards not accepted so we had to walk to Edgeware Road to get cash. Breakfast no longer available. No chair in room - just a small double bed. We stayed here at the Normandie a few years ago when it was nice. This was so bad that we checked out a day early - no-one to hand the keys too. Take this disaster hotel off your list.
- Anand Kumar (6/5): Good for price - Nice area near to Paddington and Lancaster gate station. Easy to navigate and rooms are good for the price.
Cons :they provide towels of size for hand washing only and not for bath.
- Cruz (2/5): - Negatives - Purported wifi non-exsistent, bathmat size towel for a doll, stairs from a horror film (but only an issue if you are placed above first floor and have heavy luggage), bathroom could double as a wet sauna, non existent front reception (you will need a cell phone to call the hotelier to check in) and last of all, the size of the room matches the towel provided, ie for a doll.
Positives - location was great, the view was nice, the room did have housekeeping (who provided a fresh dolls towel daily and made the bed), the hotelier provided a replacement fan when advised that the one in the room could not be connected given it was an EU fan, there is a tv although limited reception, and in the end, I suppose you have a roof over your head - which is a positive.
- david (8/5): - It was fine... comfortable, cheap for the area, no food on site but its just a place to sleep
- Jenilee (2/5): Terrible hotel!!!! - One positive thing about the hotel, lots of services around. I let u guess for the rest. It was terrible. This hotel should be removed on hotels.com
- Timothy (8/5): - I enjoyed the area of Paddington where it is close to the train station to get around the city and the hotel staff was able to take care of us for our room and appreciated the stay.
- e (2/5): - Non existing reception for check out. Been checked out by a cleaner. Non existing luggage room and told would be left in the streets once cleaner js gone. Had a blocked sink impossible to use and shower too
- Anabella (2/5): - Its close to downtown location is realy the only thing I would praise.
After seing the most recent reviews I sent an email to confirm the presence of a lift, it came back for the adress couldn't be found, I tried to call an no one answered... As I feared, there's NO lift and we were put on the 2nd floor, which meant 4 flights of super narrow stairs with two pieces of heavy luggage. We complained and the lady at the desk just stared at us and said, "it's only second flor!" (clearly english wasn't her molther tongue and I gathered that going into an argument with her wouldn't change anything)
The room was a triple instead of a double twin, but we appreciated the extra space, the rug was stained and seamed altoghether dirty, there was no kettle, although on the site they say there is, and not evena glass for drinking. The bathroom was incredibly smal with no space for puting our "toiletries" , not even the toothbrushes. But the most unbelievable thing was that (as was related in other rviews): THE SHOWER DIDN'T WORK! I showered with almost boiling water for the water taps didn't work to regulate the water temperature. My 13 year old and I stayed for only two nights and but if we had had to stay longer I would have probably changed hotel and asked for a refund!
Realy, be careful for the price is not even that good. As I have been seeing on the expedia site there are other cheap options in the same area that couldn't be worse than this!
- Jackie (6/5): Basic but clean - Very basic , but close enough to Hyde park .
No tea making facilities
No drinking glasses
No large towels just hand towels
No charging points
No toiletries.
- alberto (10/5): - Safe location. Great staff and clean room.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The hotel was clean, and staff pleasant. There was no hot water available which was quite disappointing. The reception staff was not always available for assistance.
- Rod (6/5): Cheap and cheerful - The hotel was ok for the price but a few things could easily be improved on. My shower only had hot water. I told the staff everyday but nothing was done to fix it. On the last day I was allowed to use a shower in another room. The mattress was quite lumpy and uncomfortable.
- Kelly (2/5): Couldn’t check in or get hold of anyone. - I got to the hotel later than planned but couldn’t get in. No one answered the phone or the door even though it says reception is manned until midnight.
Had to stay somewhere else.. and still can’t get my money back because no one answers the phone.., don’t bother wasting your money, stay elsewhere
- Harish (2/5): Bad hotel not recommended - Did not enjoy the stay at all. On arrival you had to ring to gain entry. On checking in no information was given just my room number.
So I unpacked and then came straight down to get the Wi-Fi code and ask why no tea and coffee in the room. Reception was shut so I rang the number …. No answer I rang at least 15 times in the space of 2 hours and still no answer even returning to Liverpool 3 days later I am yet to receive a reply for missed calls text messages and emails. As I was on business for 3 days I was up at 5 each morning and not back until 12/1am. No hot water day or night to shower. Beautiful weather but we all like hot water available !!!! Not a great place to stay and certainly will not stay again. I am a big believer not to post hasty comments until resolved by the management but when you don’t get a reply or acknowledgment then you deserve to be lambasted.
- Deanna (4/5): - No-one was available when I arrived at the time I had said I would be there (2 to 3 PM). No-one answered the phone. The man at the hotel next door had a key and let me in after a long wait.
There was no-one at the desk most of the time.
The housekeeper was lovely and efficient. She provided a clean good pot for heating water for tea, and she straightened the room each day and left fresh towels.
In spite of my request at least a week before arrival, I was assigned to room 8, in which previous guests had reported bedbugs. There were no bedbugs…but this written request was completely ignored, probably never read.
Two nights there was no hot water. For three days there was no wifi. When it finally re-appeared it contained a strange security warning such as I had never seen. There was never any breakfast (which I would have not eaten because I noticed that the city had not given the best report on their kitchen).
These old hotels in this area are never bright and shiny but they are usually adequate. If you want bright-shiny you must pay a lot more! And COVID has been a real set-back…so expect to ask for your tea/coffee pot which was taken away for a while.
But, in my opinion, it is not safe to be locked in a tall, old building at night with no-one on hand to notice or assist with problems such as fire, illness, unruly guests.
And do not bother with communication or requests prior to your arrival. I do not believe they are read.
- Sebastien (8/5): Staff non existant - Staff non existant
- David (4/5): - No one available on checkout in the morning
No hot water for shower in the morning
Used condom wrapper on the bedside table (I hm took a photo)
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ghost Hotel with Invisible staff - I stay in London each week for work and move around, well this place nice clean room etc, but no kettle coffee/tea as stated in my room description. Could not get hold of reception over 3 days as i wanted as above plus iron and hairdryer. Very basic. Dreadful customer service, well none exactly l didnt see anyone, won't stay again.
- Daniel (4/5): - A hotel has to have the basic amenities.. hot water and a good mattress. In this case we had days that There was no hot water and the mattress was broken. Was a really bad experience. Also there wasn’t anyone to talk about this.
- Stuart (2/5): - The shower came in two flavours, molten lava or artic frost - no in between. BUT don’t worry you can inform reception… what’s that, they’re never there! Well, don’t you worry my friend. You have a number to call… ‘you have reach the Tesco mobile VM of …’ BUT, surely they’ll call you back… 👀. In a word… AVOID
- Zeljko (2/5): - There's never any of the hotel staff, a dirty room, a messy bathroom, too, i'll never come to this hotel again
- Alexandre (2/5): - I aleady complained to expedia and to the hotel.
DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL, no heating, no duvets and no receptionist at the property.
After dropping the key the receptionist left, I went into the room and it was freezing, there were two electric heater in the room which none of them worked. The windows were not double glazed so you could feel the cold coming into the room. I called to complain the receptionist said call Expedia.
So I left and had to book another hotel. Just not worth the stress.
- Chi Fai (4/5): - Convenient location however other than the TV and WiFi room feels like I’d traveled back in time to the 1970s
- Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid. - No one in reception upon arrival. Note on door saying call number to check in, called the number several times and no answer. Had drag our luggage around with us for the whole day as we were unable to check in. Also they won’t let you leave your bags/luggage in the hotel upon check out. Awful inconvenience.
- Catherine (8/5): - Basic clean accommodation. Handy for bus stop and station.
Staff very friendly, asked for kettle and extra pillows and there were bought to room.
Bathroom needs refurbishing but is fully workable.
- Tony (8/5): - Good value fine room and facilities limited contact with staff
- Octavio (2/5): - Terrible bed. Hot water only three out of six days. Reception without staff. Bad option.
- Mathew (6/5): - Back to basic bed for the night. No frills but clean and comfortable.
- Lorna (8/5): - Convenient to Paddington station for travel
- Miss D W (6/5): Needs a kettle - The hotel was clean and we had no problems checking in. However, the lack of a kettle, or even a glass in which to put water from the tap, made the stay less comfortable that it would otherwise have been (had to buy a bottle of water and some paper cups).
- Michael (2/5): - Bed bugs!
- Melanie (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay at the Normandie Hotel
- Cliona (2/5): - Needs complete modernization
- Shari (2/5): Bed bug infestation - DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
Room 8 is infested with BED BUGS . I reached out to management, who did not even respond to my emails.
BED BUG ALERT!!!!
- Harris (2/5): - Bed bugs! I was covered in bites after staying here for one night. Avoid if you can
- Natasha (4/5): Disappointing and would like to have cancelled - Check in was poor with key that had to be collected down the road after calling to find out how to get in. Perhaps had I known this from the start after a long day, I may not have been so frustrated on arrival. Window in the room broken and exceptionally hot with limited ventilation. Bed covering was smelly and not clean and was removed entirely leaving me with a sheet only. Bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable. No facilities or even bedside table. Exceptionally sparse room. Not what I expected at all and disappointed that this is what you get in London for this price. Communication with landlord was poor and still waiting for a reply to a request after 4 days.
- rebecca (4/5): Not what was expected ! - Listing falsely included breakfast. No staff available except at my initial check in. We did not get towels on second day. Staff did not return phone calls. Beds were lumpy. Another guest needed a doctor but staff not there to help out. The task fell to me for directing other guests to medical assistance.
