The tea kettle was also questionably clean. The lift also did not work when I arrived. Way over priced for what you're getting.

Tried to ring reception for portable hair dryer and report fault only to find phone not working either. People on reception friendly and helpful also the cleaners.

- Verified traveler (2/5): - I wouldn’t say there was anything I liked. The first night we stayed our plugs in the room were not working so we were unable to charge anything in the room. We weren’t able to get another room untill the next day. Which ment we didn’t have a room from 11-4. The next room was okay. The key wasn’t working to begin with then the toilet wouldn’t flush. I would say over all horrible experience especially after paying €350 it was not worth it and very Disappointing. We also got told we would get a ‘ discomfort’ fee back but that never happened.

Reasonably clean. bathroom faucet was loose and bath tub not scrubbed (we did arrive early so housekeeping was rushed). Staff gave excellent off property restaurant recommendations. - yael (6/5): - the bed (matres)was not good. to old !! wene I Opend the windows at all times there was strong smell of cooking ham or egss , I had to shout the windows at all times. cant imagine what turist do at sunny or summers day. the shawer didnt have a strong flow of water .the stufe where real nice !

The room itself was very comfortable, clean and in good condition; however the bathroom was probably due an upgrade with a faint smell of damp and tired fixtures and fittings. Breakfast in the bar downstairs was fine. The common parts were in the process of being redecorated to a good standard.

- Christopher (4/5): - At over €250 a night I thought the room was a little 'tired' - but there is a dire shortage of hotel space in Dublin. The (Irish) breakfast was awful I'm afraid: cheap orange juice, coffee stewed to hell, shrivelled bacon (one meagre rasher), tasteless egg, sausage made of sawdust, black pudding made of even worse sawdust. In Ireland - where MacSween's black pudding comes from? This plus the overweening smell of disinfectant from the bar......

However, 1st floor rooms are positioned above the pub which is very loud Thu-Sun with music until 3am. Window sound isolation is really bad. If you are not there for a party, make sure you book the rooms in 2nd and 3rd floor, or you will regret it.

The hotel is in central Dublin and over a bar so it can be a bit loud but I didn’t think it was to bad. It was however very hot in the room as they do not have AC and only a small fan. If they were to update and offer AC I think it would make a world of difference with regard to noise and comfort in the summer. Would be better for winter visiting.

- Lauren (10/5): Great weekend - Hotel was great, staff were so helpful and really friendly. Room was really clean and cosy with loads of tea, coffee and extra amenities included. It's also a short walk from the city centre with parking available right outside the hotel. Would definitely stay here again!
- David (6/5): Nice place, great family room, very noisy - Great service, wonderfully friendly staff. However this hotel is very noisy. The bar below plays music until 2:30am. It was very loud in the rooms. Recommend families do not stay on the 1st floor. If you are out until late it will not be a problem but it was not great for my younger family. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast awesome. So a mixed review.

- danny (4/5): Lovely hotel but above NIGHTCLUB - Had to stay in Dublin for a night, and without a huge research based on pictures alone i booked a room. Hotel was dated and nothing like on a pictures, bedroom was comfortable had two single beds and lots of space. one mattress was very unconfortable so had to move in a middle of the night. However my biggest problem was a loud music until 3 am . Hardly slept and despite given so many ear plugs it felt i was on a dance floor myself. Not for a person looking to rest but if u are heading to Dublin for a jolly then its perfect. Hotel receptionists were fantastic

- Kayla (10/5): Nice centrally located hotel - We stayed at the Portobello Hotel on our last night in Dublin. It was easy to find, but parking is sparse. We scored a street spot outside, but had to pay until 6:30 pm. The staff was great - gave us a recommendation for a laundromat and we went down and ended up having them wash and fold our laundry on a rush (picked up 3 hours later). Quick to grab an Uber to explore Temple Bar and other parts of the city. The room was very clean and was remodeled. Quiet place to sleep in spite of being in the city. Will definitely stay again.

- Helen (8/5): Clean and friendly short stay hotel - Staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was good quality and plenty to choose from. The room had tea coffee and biscuits. It was kept clean and was very comfortable. The hotel was located in a good area for travelling around whether on foot or tram. It was a bit noisy at night when the clubs finished and the rush hour started.
- Abdul (8/5): Portobello, Dublin - Stroll along the canal and meet the royal swans. Not so quiet area but definitely a central location very close to Camden Street and Grafton Street. Loads of local café, restaurants and bars so no reason to stay on diet when visiting Dublin.
- Keith (8/5): Not cheap, but best value in Dublin. Walkable! - Close enough walk to major attractions. 20min to Temple Bar, less to Grafton. Staff very friendly. Asked for a quiet room and got 306 which was huge and we slept well despite the late night club music from the bar below. May be harder for light sleepers. Exceptional value for meals (5E lunch combo, 10E dinner with a drink) and drinks (4E anytime for anything) at the bar, compared to the rest of Dublin. Room was musty but that was bearable given the low price for Dublin. Stored our luggage at no cost. Would stay again for sure.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Not ideal accommodations but location is good - We stayed on the third floor of this older establishment which was run down compared to first floor close to reception. The carpet in our room was stained and the hallways and room smelled of smoke. The bathroom was ok but had a horrific window view of old dirty rooftops with discarded beer bottles and cigarette butts. One of the staff, Valentino, was particularly welcoming and oriented us around the entire city. The location is quite good but the room left much more to be desired so I won't be returning to portobello anytime soon.

- Aisling (10/5): Come stay here now!!! - Incredibly warm and friendly staff, especially those at reception. Our stay was made as comfortable as imaginable and the little touches such as complimentary chocolates and greeting us by name made our stay memorble and enjoyable. Would highly recommend this venue for the food, closeness to Dublin city and the friendly atmosphere in the place. Thank you so much and I hope to see you soon!! One tip for the future, please try to make both shampoo and bath/shower gel available as there was only one dispenser (of some liquid) in our room. Thank you!

- Verified traveler (6/5): Good place for just sleeping - The neighborhood was kind of creepy for two females to stay in my opinion. The building needs an upgrade, inside and out. Our room was small, but that was okay because we only slept there :) It was clean, just outdated. (old phone, old coffee maker etc) I would recommend this to anyone who is just looking for a bed to sleep on. Not really a hotel for children. The employees in the bar and customer service was fantastic. I have it a three star because it needs updated.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Portobello on the canal - I went and took my dad to ireland. The hotel was OK not bad by any means, central to Dublin. The bar downstairs was awesome. The problem is you have screaming drunk hooligans out till sunbreak and a room with no a/c and open windows.

- Colm (6/5): Great location - Have stayed here several times over the years and it keeps getting better. Love the location, my only negative would be lack of parking as you must use on street parking which can be difficult to find.

I had a couple of really good meals in the bar, a good main meal with a quarter bottle of wine (or Guinness etc) for 10 Euros. Room comfortable, staff always friendly and helpful. TV reception in room not always good though.

- David (8/5): Solo Trip Overnight - Stayed for a quick weekend and was very pleased with the hotel. Staff was friendly and gave me some tips on getting around Dublin, room was clean, and ready when I arrived a little early. It's not in the primary tourist area so about a 15-20 walk to Temple Bar district, Guiness, Jameson, etc. Very pleased overall, a great value.

The hotel is in a great location - just a few minutes walking from St. Stephen's Green. I was working in Rathmines, so it was a great compromise from staying in the heart of Temple Bar/O'Connell Street and in Rathmines. The room was clean and comfortable, although you could tell it could use some maintenance (peeling paint in the bathroom, minor stains on the carpet, etc.). Overall, though, great deal in a good location for those who need to spend a few nights in Dublin.

The staff were super friendly especially when it came to fixing the internet connection quickly which wasnt working when I arrived. Front desk were friendly and helpful and my room was clean and comfortable. Little to grumble about really.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay at the Portibello over the New Years holiday. The staff (Valentin ) was very helpful and the location gave us easy walking access to the college, museum and the Temple Bar and college New Years festivities. There were also plenty of dining choices within an easy and quick walk. The hotel, itself is a teensy bit tired, but for the price it was everything we asked for. The free wifi/internet woked consistently - better than most that we have found, in fact. Biggest complaint? Pillows were a bit uncomfortable.
- Charlie (6/5): Good value. Convenient location. Comfortable room. - Cosy budget hotel in a great location - close to many suburban amenities. Located overlooking the Grand Canal at Portobello Bridge. Five minute walks to Rathmines and Ranelagh. 15 minutes to Stephens Green etc. The Portobello is essentially a restaurant/bar and nightclub with 25 bedrooms. My room was located on the third floor which was nice and quiet except for the odd ambulance whizzing by. I would imagine the rooms closer to the bar/club would be quite noisy when live music events are taking place. The room was reasonably spacious for the price, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was dated but the cleanliness was very good (which is really what is important). The staff were friendly and attentive. Would return.
- Rob (6/5): Decent 2 star hotel - Stayed for one night to meet up with friends in town. The hotel is grand. Not going to win any 5* hotel awards, but its decent. I'd stay there again. The location is close to the city centre, the rooms are clean and comfortable.
- Christmas2013 (8/5): very good value and clean - Room was clean and well laid out. Close to city centre. Price very reasonable. Staff very nice and helpful. Only downsides, nightclub/bar was loud from underneath. But this was at weekend night so suspect ok otherwise.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice Hotel by the Dublin Canal - The staff were relaxed about check-in time and were very polite and helpful.
- breda mc guinness (10/5): - I enjoyed my stay and thought the staff where very pleasant to deal with. We were not to far away from anything. The only thing id say is when checking in I should have stated my parents were not able to get into a bath to have a shower. This is my fault for not stating so at time of booking nor did we say anything about it. Over all id rate my stay highly and so would my companions.
- Dave super man (8/5): 20min. Walk from town - Nice hotel. Did the job for what I wanted. Parking is only problem.
- Jenny (4/5): overpriced and run down - We were pretty surprised at the cost of this hotel considering it's run down condition. However, we waited so late to book, this is all that was left in our price range....but there are much better hotels out there for the price...if you book early enough. The staff was great. The location was good. It was safe...but frankly, it's just a step up from being a dump. Noisy machines going off...our joke was that there was a jet ski in the next room....The music from the downstairs club goes till 3AM 4 nites a week. You can hear doors slamming and people talking so easily, that I don't believe there is any insulation to the place. The duvet was nice, but the bed was lumpy. One couldn't open the door except about 3 feet because it was so warped and old. Bright lighting entered the room from under the door & sides. The carpets and overall feel of the place is very tired. They get over one hundred for this room during the week and as much as two hundred during the weekend...really? Unbelievable.
- Rich (6/5): Economical hotel for leisure traveler - The Portobello is a good choice for the vacation traveler working on a limited budget, willing to trade some amenities for lower cost. The rooms are clean and comfortable. WiFi was free and reliable. A full Irish breakfast was included in my package, it was good and the wait staff at the hotel restaurant were great. It is a walkable distance to the city center, about 15 mins. All in all it worked well for me.
- Sarah (8/5): Once you find it... - We were not very familiar with Dublin and had difficulty finding the hotel, but once we did it was a good place to stay. It was clean, well maintained, the front desk staff were extremely helpful and will to do whatever it took to make you happy. It doesn't offer the fine amenities of some other hotels but you get what you pay for, and we were very satisfies with what we got.
- Siobhan (8/5): - Great for a quick stop in Dublin. Close to the city but far enough away to avoid the night life noise. I would have liked a different room...ours had two windows and overlooked the kitchen...we had the noise of fans from I window and the smell of cooking food from the other...so we alternated ...either noise or smells..the one receptionist we saw was very nice and the pub was very nice
- Brad P (8/5): Excellent service! - We arrived and the receptionist Andy was really attentive and nice. We unexpectedly missed our flight and when we called them last minute the were able to accommodate us for an additional night and were extremely nice about everything! Their service is superb! The hotel is in an older building but it is well kept and clean! We will stay in the Portobello Hotel on our next visit to Dublin for sure!
- Jaspers (8/5): Exceptional staff - This is an old but charming hotel. Staff are so pleasant. Breakfasts so good with tables for our family of 6 travelling together. They accomodated some serious food allergies in the pub and restaurant! We were a le to walk to Temple bar area..great location! Be sure to ask for a room away from pub on weekends.
