Guest Reviews
- John (10/5): - We very much enjoyed our time at Sunburn Guest House. It was pretty much perfect for our needs. Thank you!
- Patti (10/5): - Sanborn House was perfect for my needs. The host was very personable, and did a great job giving me a tour and explaining the amenities and expectations. The bed was great, and the AC unit /ceiling fan worked well to keep me comfortable. Highly recommend.
- Miranda (10/5): - Thoroughly enjoyed my 5-day stay at Sanborn Guest House. Gary and Jaime have thought of everything you need for your stay. They are wonderful hosts and really knowledgeable about the local area.
I stayed in the Sanborn Room, which is very comfortable and decorated with eclectic items from Gary and Jaime's travels. It's good having the separate sitting area with a lounge, a couple of chairs, and a coffee table, as well as access to the shared kitchen. The off-street secure parking is a bonus as street parking in the area is very tight.
The location is top-notch - the street itself is really quiet and safe but it's only a block away from Santa Monica Boulevarde so only a few minutes walk to a diverse range of quality restaurants, cafes and shops. Los Feliz and the lake are also within walking distance. DTLA, Hollywood, Griffith Observatory/Park, Dodger Stadium are all within 10-15 min drive.
Would definitely stay again.
- Jose-Marc (10/5): - On a hill so if you are mobility impaired may need to consider a flatter more accessible alternative, otherwise it’s an excellent location.
- Laurel (10/5): - This place was super charming and is in a great area. Staying here was easy and stress-free and I would gladly do so again.
- Nikki (10/5): - Very cute, clean and conveniently located property. Gary was very kind and accomodating. Overall a perfect place to land for a holiday weekend.
- Monique (10/5): - I was traveling alone and looking for secured parking. I was very happy with the walkable location, loads of places to stash all my "necessities," clean shower, and comfortable bed. I would recommend to a woman traveling alone (or a couple) who want an excellent location. The organic food store nearby was a great find for fresh and cooked foods. The outdoor area was welcoming and well maintained.
- Jeremy (10/5): - I liked the neighborhood feel of this place, easy to walk to get coffee/food, gated parking, quiet nights, comfortable bed,and friendly host.
- Robert (10/5): - Gracious host, well-equipped and very clean apartment in a perfect location!
- Olaf (10/5): - Great place! Super friendly hosts, great location - close to nice cafes, restaurants, shops. Would definitely stay here again
- Kylie (10/5): - Oops forgot to do this.
Amazing place to stay it's like having a home away from home and owner is a lovely man we had some awesome chats with.
Hope we can come back again one day
- Jerry (10/5): - It was a good location and walkable to where we needed to be. Had its own parking area. Very quiet.
The Host was helpful.
- Kamila (10/5): Family get away - Went on vacation with family. Owner of the house was helpful and friendly. Basic amenities we needed were provided, plus more (towels, shampoo/soap, tea, coffe). We Stayed in queen bed-room and it was still pretty spacious. House is located in quiet area with a lot of food spots to choose from near by. Good stay overall.
- Jessie (10/5): - Gary was so wonderful and kind. Very welcoming. The room was very clean. The mattress was so comfortable. And we loved the style of the old home. Also the air conditioning and ceiling fan were great additions for being very comfortable.
- Katherine (10/5): - This was a wonderful stay. We loved the neighborhood and the location, but the room and the hospitality was truly exceptional! I would like to stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.
- Mark (10/5): - A very charming room in a great neighborhood one block from Sunset Blvd. restaurants. The host was super nice and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - THE BEST stay I've ever had in La. The host was so friendly and knowledgeable. The place itself was private, clean, cute, and a perfect spot for if you're traveling solo. There was every amenity one could dream of; heater, a/c, tv, parking, kitchen use, etc. The vibe here was truly amazing and I looked forward to heading home for the night. I would recommend this place to anyone. It's a great location in the heart of Silverlake with lots of shops and food spots in walking distance. 11/10!
- EUGENE (10/5): - Hosts were very accommodating of our late check-in. Private parking was extremely convenient and stress-free. One of the most charming places we've had the luxury of staying in while in LA. Silverlake is a great jump off point for your southern California adventures too.
- JENNIE (8/5): - The room was quite comfortable .David was very helpful in making suggestions where things were. The room was near to everything. Appreciate the off street parking. The yard area was very nice as well. Too bad the microwave didn’t work. The room could use a deep cleaning around windows and baseboards. A toilet paper roll holder would be nice.
- Chad (10/5): - Nice, quiet location. Extra roomy. Easy access. Very comfortable bed.
- D (10/5): - Amazing spot!!! Wonderful hosts. Would stay there again!!!!
Great location!!! Close to everything!!!
- Alexander (8/5): - Great clean & basic home stay. 2 rooms in a very quiet & safe neighborhood with great places nearby (walkable).
Our room was large, great aircond, extra dbl firm comfy bed, plenty of light & curtains, no facilities-but great outdoor area with secure parking, small ensuite -shower & toilet, shared kitchen with all you need, close to Hollywood with bus nearby, approx 1hr from LAX, Beverly Hills and great hosts. Enjoyed our (couple) stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was the perfect location in Los Angeles and close by everything
- Craig (10/5): 3 night stay - Great location, modest but clean accommodations. Free and secure onsite parking behind a motorized gate. Very very pleased with our stay!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was large and included a sitting area. The parking was secure and inside a gate. The garden was very nice
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Room so cozy, 3 windows, view of lovely large yard, garden, Buddha sculpture lit up at night, parking space free for any friend, nice neighborhood, near fab cafe/store, free bus on Santa Monica Blvd. Missed little body lotion. Won't stay anywhere else in LA. Fab Ikea bed and superb heating system. A/c too I would think.
- NilsG (10/5): - Lovely house in a quiet neighborhood. Gary and Jaime are great hosts. Fully equipped kitchen. Cannot think of what could be improved - wait - yes a water boiler / kettle would have been great. Otherwise all was perfect!
- Maude (10/5): - lovely hosts, location, comfortable and welcoming!
- Roseann (10/5): A keeper! - Great place! Felt like home. Definitely a keeper for future visits.
- D.Holub (10/5): - Really amazing hospitality, very easy check-in, and welcoming host. The place was nice and clean with the shared kitchen being convenient to store leftovers from all the great eats in the neighborhood. Parking was worth its weight in gold. ONLY issue- please like hard beds if you stay here, the bed was rock hard and ended ups seizing my back up really bad. It is a matter of preference, some folks love hard beds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A Lovely place to Stay - A very lovely guest house with 2 very nice hosts. I loved the room we were in. It was quiet, private and peaceful with a shared kitchen. Very lovely backyard. A short walk away many restaurants and coffee shops. Our favorite was Cafe Stella, just 3 blocks away. Wicked very spicy Bloody Mays and excellent food. Definitely our go to place when we return to Los Angeles.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very cozy and welcoming. Lots of space which was nice traveling with a baby
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Unique property with private off road parking and good location. Owner is very friendly.
- timothy (10/5): Great location and value - Fantastic location! So close to everything in the Hollywood area. Room was clean and functional - would stay again in future.
- Nancy (8/5): Pretty Cool !!! - Great location, Great Hosts, Nice presentation...Would stay again !!!
- Michael (8/5): Would definitely stay again! - Hosts were wonderful and everything was clean and spotless. Bed was a little too firm. Neighborhood seemed a little iffy down the road.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - If you are looking for a homestay, this is ideal. And surprisingly, easily located to Hollywood landscape icons, local landmarks such as the Observatory, and interesting eateries... a bit far from LAX so rent a car with GPS.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Our hosts gave us the wrong pass code to our room. Consequently, we did not get to not our room for 3 hours after arriving. Very disappointing.
- Vertika (10/5): - Great service! The owner is so lovely!
- Gert (8/5): - Location is good and in a nice area. You get your own parking spot which is a plus. Owners are very pleasant.
- Mark (10/5): Sanborn Guest House a great place to stay - Love this place great location nice bars and restaurants would recommend this guest house to everyone. Easy check in and out
Thank you again for and great holiday.
- Lori (10/5): - Great place to stay in Silver Lake.
- Michael (8/5): Friendly staff at apartment in quiet street - Very nice apartment in quiet area,I didn’t use it but it has free parking, invaluable.
- Mike (8/5): Hollywood hideaway - the guesthouse is located in a quiet and safe area, within walking distance to restaurants and public transport. It offers off street parking, free WiFi and has a comfy family feeling to it. We stayed for 5 nights and can recommend it if you are not looking for the latest design (house built 1920th). We had a private bathroom, the vanity however was in the bedroom and the kitchen is shared with the other unit. We enjoyed our stay and will return in case we visit LA again for a longer period of time.
- Janet (10/5): An oasis in the city! - It was wonderful to stay somewhere peaceful yet convenient to eateries, shopping and Lyft/uber. Perfect for a vacation getaway!
- Yiqi (10/5): Great stay - The room was cosy, but the bed was large and comfortable. Fantastic homestay experience close to sunset boulevard. Fantastic value.
- Colin (8/5): Sanborn - Comfortable stay in a nice area, plenty of places to eat and drink within short walking distance.
- Carl (10/5): Clean, comfy and close - Accommodation was everything you could need. Extremely clean and close to many of the attractions, as well as restaurants and coffee shops
- Kathleen (10/5): Great LA Location With Parking - We are a couple who visited LA from Canada and spent 3 nights at Sanborn House in September, 2018. Gary met us upon check-in, and even let us in an hour early as we arrived sooner than expected. Gary was very helpful with information about the neighbourhood and the house. There is a binder in the room with lots of brochures for things to do in the LA area. While there is a shared kitchen, each guest has a private bath, a living room and separate bedroom area - all very spacious. Kitchen is very well equipped and you could make all your meals there if you wished.. Fluffy towels and lots of toiletries were supplied. We would definitely stay again. On-site, gated parking was very much appreciated as on-street is limited to 2 hours a day and is virtually non-existent. Good central location within walking distance of restaurants and coffee shops within the Silverlake district. Good access to freeways, but driving in LA takes some getting used to. (People cut you off without signalling ALL THE TIME and the freeway on-ramps are very short and some have traffic lights on them to control freeway on-boarding. Lanes are narrower than we are used to in Canada. Traffic is heavy no matter what time of the day, and is insane at rush hour.) We highly recommend using Google maps or a GPS with real-time traffic info so you know how long it will take you to get somewhere. (Hint: longer than you think!) Do not expect to park anywhere in LA for free.
- Page (10/5): Hidden jewel!!! - We so enjoyed our stay here. Gary, our host, was incredibly helpful and welcoming!!! My daughter and I will definitely return to Sanborn on our next visit to the LA area. Thanks Gary!!!
