Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice people, beautiful apartment, AC, close to the river.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Ottima posizione e personale gentile e molto disponibile. Prezzo onesto e ottima pulizia.
- Denise (8/5): Florence gem. - A quiet older style apartment building, well located for me near Casine Park where I needed to be for several days. Host was helpful with regard to sights and tours to do.
Easy walking distance to the city centre. Airconditioning in the rooms was wonderful.
There was an electric jug in the communal cupboard which was great for a morning tea. Coffee machine also available.
Stanza essenziale.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - tutto bene
- ceres (6/5): - Simple but nice
Good for budget travellers
Bed is a bit small
Clean
- robin (10/5): Wonderful stay - We had a Wonderful stay. Very comfortable, great staff and great location.
- LG (6/5): Extremely firm bed - not comfortsble - While Albina was friendly and helpful, and the room was clean, the bed was so hard they I woke in pain several times a night. I have never encountered such a hard bed in a B&B or hotell in the western world in 28 years of travel. It was like sleeping on the carpeted floor. The owner did swap the bed for another that was marginally softer, but still not comfortable.
Good location, safe street near the station, restaurants and main attractions.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean, comfy and convenient - Be sure to contact them 24 hours in advance if you plan to arrive during off-hours, so that you can get the door codes. The desk isn't staffed 24/7, and messaging via Hotels.com isn't always relayed in a timely fashion.
- Reymundo (10/5): - Excellent, clean and comfortable. Very accessible to museums and restaurants.
Thank you
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay - Great all around. The location, the room, the bathroom, the staff was all great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): pure classical experience - I thought it was a hotel but actually It is an apartment which its rooms are rented to tourists, so there were no staff there during the day and night (only in morning for breakfast). The rooms were quite clean and nice. The breakfast was small, simple and homemade. However in general I really liked it because it was a very old building, furnished in a completely classic way, so I could catch a real feeling of old Italian neighbourhoods and classical style of living.
- JORGE DABGUINO (8/5): It was good. just that the arrival is highly risky - We arrived. Knocking at the door is ackward. Need to communicate by phone to get the door open.
- riccardo (8/5):
Zona strategica,gradevole,silenzioso,organizzato
- James (10/5): Good value, close to railway station and river. - Great value, especially the breakfast at 2 euros / person. nice place to stay. Met our needs
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean, calm and reachable. - The staff was very helpful and kind. Everything was clean, without any complications. It is located not right in the city center, so it is calm and peaceful, but still reachable from railway station and touristic centrer. Also price is reasonable.
- barbara (10/5): - Just excellent!
- SOON (2/5): - No regular window in the room. Breakfast time is about 9am. Do not expect real breakfast. Super Dirty walls and furniture. Lots mosquitoes and bed bugs. I got bit by them a lot. Towel change every 3 days. Bed smell from A/C. The room was humid so all towels were not dry. I reused wet towels. I dropped my towels on floor first day. They just hang up dirty towels in bathroom for reusing. Owner worked until 2pm and didn't response guest's request or emergency issue. They were not friendly. I choose here because of great reviews. I regret and it was nightmare for me. There was too dark from 1st floor to 2nd floor.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Super clean and walking distance to cemtre of city - Loved Florence - a pleasure to walk the culturally rich streets - take hiking shoes - cobbles are hard on your feet. Felt safe and welcomed as a traveller. Great evening life in the centre and good food everywhere.
Not a great experience for famillies with young children - great for young people and adults, art and culture lovers and romantics.
I woud stay longer next time.
Rome and Venice just an easy train ride away and Tuscany Coast would be easy to access if pre booked,
Took a day trip to Venice - not a good idea - Venice was packed with people doing the same thing - way too busy to appreciate its obvious cultural beauty.
- Jessica (10/5): Quiet street, close to transportation - This hotel was located within walking distance of the train terminal and was on a nice quiet street, but close to lots of shops and restaurants. Although there was no view of the river it was also very close to the river to allow for a nice walk along the river.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Florence one sleep - just one night B&B staff were very accommodating of late arrival. just had to make arrangements for access. also stored my luggage until I could pick it up later I day.
- Micaela (10/5): - Amazing! Loved it I felt like I owned my own little apartment! Close to everything
- Verified traveler (4/5): well below avarege - I wouldn't stay again in this hotel for few reasons. the bed was so uncomfortable it could only be compared to a wooden floor. breakfast was well below average. Although room were cleaned everyday towels didn't get changed. When we requested fresh bath towels we were told it they will get replaced. To our surprise and disappointment we found the wet towels (those we threw on a floor!! before leaving hotel for the day) hanging in the bathroom. We had to wait until next morning to get fresh towel as there was no staff on duty.
- Evan (8/5): Good value for independent travelers - Great place for rather independent and healthy travelers located in a quite and safe upscale neighborhood. Short walk from train station and on backside of building along the Arno. A 15/20 minute walk to most major sights.
(Bargello Museum was our favorite)
- Cristian (6/5): - Smell and looks like a hospital, very old furniture, near downtown, clean, too expensive for what is offering.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A great location to main attractions - PROS: It is a great little place, close to all the main tourist attractions via a little walk, 20 mins max. Right near the river which is beautiful at sunset! The staff are very friendly and the area is very quiet so was easy to sleep. Oh, and the bathroom tiles are amazing! :)
CONS: the only con I really have is the bed was way too hard and the ad says multilingual staff but only spoke to the owner (who spoke English) on the last day when we checked out. However, even though the gentleman who was there everyday to greet us for breakfast, he was very polite.
A very enjoyable stay!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Value - The reviews are correct. No one was there to check us in/greet us. There was a note on the door off the street with a key. - Make sure to turn the key with some force as we could not get the key to work correct at fist. That being said, for the price this was an excellent value. The neighborhood felt safe and is close enough to walk to major attractions. Breakfast was adequate. When the staff was there, for breakfast and housekeeping, they were very friendly and helpful.
- J. (6/5): Florence in Two DAYS! - The B&B was close to the train station, however since we did not know exactly how to get there we took a taxi less than $10.00. They left a note on the door with the key and directions for each door there after I was, a little concerned. Did not see anyone (other than the guy that served breakfast who spoke NO English) until the day we checked out. The neighborhood was safe so I guess their policy of leaving keys taped to the door was OK. The breakfast was seriously lacking, the room we had had no windows and ac not reliable (I think the guy was cutting it off when we left, which made for a hot room. IT was decorated nicely, the bed was like sleeping on concrete and the pillows were thin, very thin. This was our 3rd B&B to stay in on this trip so we were somewhat disappointed in the breakfast and the grumpy guy that served it.
- geraldine (8/5): overall happy!! - my stay was good. the room is very clean, bed is very firm. i had my best shower and sleep in this place. breakfast was not too bad. wifi was good.
it's a pity that it doesn't have a lift, we had to carry our heavy luggages up to the 2nd floor.
the surrounding is very quiet, no amenities around. need to walk about 5-10 mins to get food or drinks.
- Alejandro (8/5): Nice hotel wih access to everything. - This hotel has a great location near everything important in Florence. Train station is a few blocks away and close to important tourist places.
- Verified traveler (8/5): simple B&B in a quiet neighborhood - This is a rather simple bed & breakfast, with five rooms in a big apartment on the (US-style) second floor of a residential building in a quiet neighborhood. The breakfast and the amenities are minimalistic, but the host (Albina) is rather nice. The main Florence attractions are within an easy walking distance, and going along the river is fairly relaxing. If you don't need much amenities, you should definitely check this place out.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good stay. But attendant was not available during check in time. That was frustrating.
- Richelle (10/5): Great value - The bed and breakfast was extremely clean and well taken care of. The room we stayed in was just wonderfully decorated and a really decent size. Breakfast was simple but all we needed to get going with our day. Thanks!
- Yuju (8/5): Nice B&B place in florence - Room was nicely decorated. House interior looked nice. Thr lady at fromt desk was nice and helpful. The location is not far from the train station either. Very nice neighborhood.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - Great location and reasonably priced. Firm mattresses and no lift, which was no problem for us but just good to know. B&B was very clean and had good facilities such as shower and AC. Walking distance from Santa Maria Novella station and Ufizi Gallery.
- Gerald (10/5): Excellent Value. - Stayed 7 nights. The room was a good size, quiet and well kept. Basically want we wanted was a good place to sleep, while being conveniently located [for a tourist] at a good price - that is exactly what we got. As a bonus we got a basic breakfast with friendly service.
The owner was a young couple that did not live onsite. This leads to a unique self serve checking in. Look for a note addressed to you taped besides the door. You will meet the owner the next day at breakfast.
- Robert (8/5): Excellent location. - B&B is in an excellent location for walking to the major attractions in Florence.
It is in a quiet location too. Breakfast is provided and there are two supermarkets, cafés and bars nearby.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel at walkable distance from station - We were reaching late but Albana who owns the hotel kept the key outside of our room for us attached with a welcome note.
- Greg (10/5): Everything you need, nothing you don't. - A great place to stay if you are the kind of person who doesn't call room service every five minutes. Basically like you live in Florence and you have a nice mom who comes in and straightens up your room and fixes you a light breakfast.
Fantastic place. The young lady who came in every day spoke clear English and had a good sense of humor.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Quiet area - Close to the Arno, 15 to 20+ minute walk to most visited areas. Quiet area. If you are expecting luxury this not the place for you. Clean room, hard beds :( small continental breakfast which she does not set up until 8 am but it was enough to start the day. Had to ask for clean towels after day 3. No elevator, 2 sets of stairs to carry your luggage. It is a good out of the way to sleep and stay. My daughter who is studying in florence saw the place and thought it was a nice place compared to other places she has seen. It should be noted there is only someone there in the morning at the desk. You can contact her by phone or email as needed. Wifi available.
- Betsy (8/5): The accomodations were pleasant. - We were very pleased with our choice. We could walk easily to anything we wanted to see. I am glad that we arrived during the daylight, however, as it was on the second floor and would have been dificult to locate in the dark.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not a very nice location - Room was clean, bed was hard only one each pillow. Owner never there though did leave a contact number . Had to take pillows from another room luckerly not all were occupied. No where to get a drink no tea or coffee making facilities. Owner did after I complained leave kettle in breakfast area the next day. Had to walk for 15 mins to find somewhere to get a hot drink at 8 I clock at night. Spent second two nights in another hotel which we had to pay extra for.
- Kar (10/5): Excellent hotel for backpackers!! - Clean, simple, about 15 minutes walk from the Piazza Della Reppublica, and even closer to the train station, duomo, and Santa Maria de novella. It's right next to the US embassy by some of the most expensive hotels in Florence so you always feel safe and know you're in a good area. The B&B owner is extremely nice and helpful. It is very private and you almost feel as if you rented an apartment. Breakfast is more than enough and delicious, "light and healthy" (coming from a man) . The instructions to get in were left by the door for us since the owner wasn't home at the time but they were extremely easy to follow. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to everyone.
- Two travellers (6/5): Nice place but a bit out of the way. - The hotel itself was fine. Clean, spacious and friendly receptionist. However it is set back a bit from the main area and will cost anything between 7-9 euros from the train station. It's also a good 20-30 mins walk to the main hustle and bustling area . When arriving at the hotel we were met with a note stuck to the door, this gave is instructions on how to enter the place supplying the main door key also. We arrived about 4.30pm opened the door and were met by darkness the light switch is just behind the door on the right. The hotel is situated on the second floor so you have a few stairs to climb. There is a code to enter to get into the hotel once inside you have a pleasant hotel. Our room keys were at reception with a map. Was a little strange not having anyone there to great you.
- John (10/5): Friendly family run hotel - Smashing little B & B in the Diplomatic area of Florence - quite a comfort to have security at the end of the street! Corsa Italia runs parallel to the river and is about 10 minutes walk to Ponte Vecchio, the Uffici etc., slightly less to the better shopping areas and 15 minutes from the train station.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Last minute booking not completely impressed - Large room with balcony. Wanted to wear sandles in the shower. Front desk with limited service. Unable to recommend winery in Chianti region. Average breakfast. Convenient location to train station and sight seeing.
- D (6/5): So So - Stayed in Florence for 5 days at this hotel/B&B. It's more of a B&B than a real hotel. The building is a little old but it's Europe, not Phoenix AZ or something so that's probably to be expected. There's about 5 rooms and if the place is full, it can make it a little noisy esp at night as people that come-in are likely jet lagged. The owner was very nice in her manner. Do expect to be asked to pay a little extra cash for your stay to cover Italian room taxes (I think it's like $2 Euro/person/day.
- Moni (10/5): Good Bedoya - WonderfFull
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very helpful host. - Although a little out of town, once you know bus etc it is great... And a very helpful host, thanks...
- Tomte (8/5): Pleasant stay - Had a quick overnight in Florence. Location was good in quiet neighborhood not too far from the train station.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Host - This family run B & B is a rare find in Venice. The owner is helpful and friendly. We have a spacious 2 bedroom apartment with full kitchen and laundry machine. There is also air-conditioning in the living room which makes the stay really comfortable during the summer heat of Venice. Recommended for family.
- Traveler (6/5): Nice hotel in the center of Firenze. - Awful internet quality. Very small hotel. Staff is there a few hours a day. Room was quite large. Breakfast is average.
- Jeanne (10/5): great location and accommodations for the price - located in a quiet neighborhood but within walking distance of the train station and sights in Florence. Convenient free parking along the river, laundromat and supermarket within blocks.
- Melissa (8/5): Great Value, quiet, safe B & B with Nice breakfast - After staying in at least 10 different 3-star hotels in Amsterdam, Paris, and various cities in Italy during our 4-week trip this summer, La Residenza Il Maggio B&B was the best valued place we stayed. In general, the hotels we stayed in were overpriced for what we got. So we were happy with what we got for the reasonable prices at Maggio. The pros of this place:
1. tidy, homey, decent-sized rooms with AC,
2. Clean, newer bathroom with nice towels
3. Helpful, friendly, and accommodating Albina who will help you with traveling Florence.
4. Nice continental breakfast that is more than just coffee, bread and jam (like most European hotels). Maggio also provided fresh fruit, cereal and yogurt.
5. Located away from the tourist-heavy areas so it provides for a quiet sleep. Located very close to the US Embassy so its guarded by police and soldiers. Feels very safe walking back to Maggio any time of day.
The only con is the location is away from most popular sites so it's quiet a walk to sites. Although Maggio is not located near the popular sites, it is close to the Arno River so it provides a nice walk around the river. I liked that the location was not near the popular sites because it was away from the noisy touristy areas, safe next to the embassy and was priced well for the what you get.
I would stay here again and recommend this place to friends who are looking for a nice, safe and affordable place to stay in Florence.
- Nate (10/5): FANTASTIC BED AND BREAKFAST - I don't know why this place is not on the top of everyone's list to stay in Florence. It's a bit far from the centre, but everything in the city is within 15 minutes walking distance. This bnb is quaint, a home away from home and the staff is extremely nice and accommodating. The area couldn't be safer since its beside the American consulate building. And the room is spacious with towels and closet space. Definitely returning there and advising everyone to book with them.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great budget BB with lovely owners. - This is a wonderful place to stay. The owners are great (couldn't be kinder or more helpful) the rooms lovely and clean. It is near the station and in a lovely area. I would recommend it to anyone.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great B&B - Easy walk to ponte vecchio and the train station. Nice room and lovely bathroom. Perfect size. Awesome staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): very nice little spot - very nice and quaint little space. very clean, very friendly and in quiet neighborhood by river - very walkable
- Karen (10/5): Highly recommend this B & B! - We stayed here only one night, arriving from the train station at 6:30 pm after booking on Expedia just the day before. As we walked up to the address, there was a note with my name on it with a clear explanation of how to get in, precisely what steps to take, and there were keys waiting for us along with a map of Florence with highlights circled...what fabulous service! We left at 5 am the next morning so didn't get to try the breakfast - the room was clean, simple, with an excellent shower and plenty of space.
For the price, this was an unbeatable deal and in a superb location near the river.
- Matt (6/5): Cheap and functional - We stayed a few nights. The rooms were OK but the service was lacking. There is only someone there in the morning and she wasn't very friendly. Some of the dooms don't have external windows. Breakfast was below average. Good place only if you want no frills and just a cheap-ish bedroom.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Pros
Location
Price
Access to downtown
Cons
Above neighbors
Parking
Would recommend for young travelers . Not traveling with car .
- Genevieve (8/5): Close to US EMBASSY - Good location. Quiet zone. But this means no taxi access. Not a long walk to anywhere you need to get too. No lift- and 2 big flights of steps- no big luggage! Very Big room. Very good breakfast. Friendly assistance. Good wifi. Only 5 rooms so peaceful. Only limited times staff are there so not 24 hr experience. Good rates except weekend at double the price.
- Rob (8/5): A lovely experience - The B&B was located fairly close to the railway station and impressively close to the river. It turned out the US embassy was close by so the area was quiet and safe. On arrival there was a note on the door saying they were out however they had left the key and code for the door - a sure sign the area was safe - and we didn't see them until morning as we returned late. The room was really nice and the whole place had a lovely feel to it, definitely more B&B than hotel. Breakfast was good and overall we really enjoyed our stay. Will definitely return if we come back to Florence.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A great B & B, a great deal for the money! Not to far from the train station and the sights! Would stay there again!
- backpackervic (2/5): fooled by customer reviews on this one - I found a note and a key stuck to the main door when i reached the hotel. I realized, there was no resident management on this b&b. The stairway was pitch dark to navigate and in plain simple terms, my start to florence vacation was dreadful. The internet seems to be shared with too many guests so expect speeds from stone age. Final nail in the coffi. Was the breakfast, with few slices of dry and thin bread, i prefered to spend money and buy my breakfast.
The only saving grace is clean rooms, but it didnt make good for the above flaws.
- Felicia (10/5): Fantastic for anyone! - Let me say, my friends and I really enjoyed our experience at Residenza Il Maggio. Both the room and the bathroom were very clean. The breakfast was fine for me, there was a variety of cereals, bread and jam, fruit, and yogurt. We arrived in the afternoon, when there was no staff, but they left instructions to get in that I found easy to follow. That might bother some people, but I really didn't mind at all. If you think you wouldn't like that, arrive before 4 or 5. The location was very quiet, and, since it's right by the American consulate, you can feel relatively safe walking back at night since there are police/soldiers on every corner. We only stayed one night, but I wish we were there longer!
- Gail (6/5): Florence - LOCATION was good if you could walk alot and do steps. Lot of convenience nearby. The owner was very pleasant and helpful. We wanted more pillows and got them. Our complaint would be our housekeeping for the second day. When we returned from our day we only had 2 towels instead of 4 when we checked in and toilet paper not replaced. Had to get that the next morning. No one at the desk to get 2 more. We could have called but didn't have a connection from the phone and we don't travel with cell phones. The TV was difficult to work and limited channels. Could not find even one in English. Finally the breakfast was nice but would have been nicer with fresh cruisants or something beside wrapped sweets that were prepackaged.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to all the main sights - I would recommend this b&b to anyone going to Florence. It is 1 minute walk to the river, at which you can take a leisurely stroll down the river towards Ponte Vecchio. It is within walking distance to all the main sights and is in a very quiet part of town being close to the American Consulate. We stayed here for 4 nights, and had a very pleasant and peaceful stay. It is very quiet there and the lady who runs the place is very helpful if you need information. The place is also clean and tidy and we would stay here again if we were to go to Florence again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect location! - Perfect location! We were able to walk everywhere we needed, the staff was helpful and friendly.
- Randy (10/5): best hotel experience in Italy - hands down the best hotel experience we had in Italy. quiet street. friendly staff. couldn't get the AC to work, but i didn't bother to ask, since the temp was good. the window was open, so there were a few mosquitos, but not too bad. also, the tv was a little small, but we weren't there to watch TV! the breakfast was the best anywhere we'd been on our trip. everyone else seemed to skimp, but here they had everything we needed. this will be where we stay any time we return to Florence.
- ralph (6/5): good location but noisy - noisy at night
- Tony (8/5): Excellent location, impecable cleaness. - Excellent location! Impecable cleaness. Very good meal at the Trattoria Vitoria nearby. Easy parking nearby (free at night and Sundays). The manager Albina is a service oriented person and speaks very good English. Well worth the price as well the good comments placed by other travelers.
- Verified traveler (8/5): An overnight stay - Very friendly hosts in a quiet area near the river and 15-20 min walk with luggage from train station. Access is by way of stairs. Excellent breakfast provided. Firm but comfortable bed.
- Ken (8/5): A good place to stay for short time. - The bed was very hard and had to ask for more pillows as only one per person supplied but this was put right with no fuss and with a smile so thats ok.
Noise from other guests a problem first night(loud music and talking in reception area which is outside all room doors) but after that ok.All in all a good place to stay for a short time, and very well situated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great host - Staff were awesome, made the trip so much friendlier and easy to plan. Very good coffee for breakfast too!!! Area good and not far from anything!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hotel with very friendly staff.
- Tarina (8/5): Wonderful staff... comfortable room - This place was very nice for the price although I was told I could have found something closer to more sites for around the same price. Regardless, I enjoyed my stay. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. There was free Wi-Fi but I did not have my computer and my phone did not work. The staff let me use their phone and their computer... very nice of them. It is around the corner from the US consulate so there is no traffic which makes for quiet evenings. Felt very safe in the area as well, as the consulate had guards posted around the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Residenza Il Maggio - Very good hotel. It is conveniently located close to the river banks and you can get to almost anywhere in Florence very easily. Our room was very clean and the staff was very friendly.
- Katie (10/5): Loved this hotel! - This hotel was in a great neighborhood, and easy to walk to from the train station. Roberto, the manager, was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was nice. I would definately recommend this hotel, and would stay here again when in Florence.
- Paul (10/5): Best hotel deal in Florence - This was a small but adequate room with a small but adequate modern private bath. It was very clean. It's located near the American Consulate and the street is blocked off to motor vehicles. Therefore! - No noisy car traffic all night long. It's near the river, and an easy walk of less than a mile will get you to the Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, or Santa Maria Novella Station. The staff was great - very helpful. A very nice breakfast was served in the morning. (On some days we would have liked it a little earlier) There was fruit, yogurt, cereal, toast, jam, and a selection of cereals with wonderful fresh-brewed Italian coffee! The rooms are not air conditioned, which was no problem at all in late September. And it's only a few blocks from Trattoria Armando, where you can get great Tuscan food at a reasonable price. The manager will direct you to establishments the serve more ordinary food at low prices. This is a great deal - Book it!
- Katie (10/5): Excellent location! Easy to walk EVERYWHERE! - This is a nice, little B&B. There wasn't a ton of charm in our bedroom, but we were only there to sleep (so it was fine). It's very clean and in an ideal location (just 1 block from the Arno). It's also nice that breakfast is included. The owners were very friendly and happily arranged a taxi to pick us up at 4:30am for our 6:30am flight. I highly recommend this place!
- Augusto (10/5): Good b&b, within walking distance to sights, great friendly hosts - Convenient and reasonably priced bed and breakfast, within walking distance to sights in Florence. Great, friendly hosts.
- A (10/5): Fantastic little place - I loved this place it was clean comfortable and the owner was very friendly and helpful
- Ildar (10/5): Just perfect for that price - Family owned place, very friendly and welcome. Perfect location (10 min walk from train station), very quiet and safe neighborhood (embassy, streets closed for cars). You get the keys from entry door, so may walk in any time. Breakfast is good - You get not only tea/coffee with pastry, but fruits, yougurt, muesli, etc. Room is small, but clean, bed is big and comfortable, bathroom is nice and well equipped, except shower cabin won't suit typical north american - too small)) Close to historical places. Free wi-fi.
