Guest Reviews
- Eric (6/5): A Place Of This And That... - The rooms are spacious... the walls are thin. The beds are worthy... there's no bed side lamp. The water is good hot and the tub large... I had to use the washcloth as the stopper.
The first night I was given rm. 103 which is too very near the entrance frontdesk and noisy. At least the manager gave rm. 210 for the rest of my stay.
- HOSHIZAKI (2/5): - As everyone says,THE WORST HOTEL in Hollywood.
- YiShan (8/5): - In general it’s good with its price.
Just there is a smell in the room.
- Albert (10/5): Basic but fine - Extremely basic room. Ideal for an overnight stay.
- Jordan (10/5): Cozy, clean and worth it - The room was big and comfortable. The bed was clean. The floor laminate felt kind of sticky, but I am assuming that's due to whatever cleaning product is used. The parking lot leaves much to be desired, but that's not a deal breaker - it's rather small and tight to get out of. Especially if all spots are taken. The TV in the room didn't work for me, so that's a bummer. In the bathroom, the toilet and sink were a little small, but that's understandable as it is an older building. Overall, this place is well worth staying at, especially if you want to be in Hollywood.
- Ketankumar (8/5): - Microwave is not avaliable. Everything is good like clean room, good staff, shop near by.
- Christopher (10/5): - This place is safe and close to a target , and close to dining options.
- angie (10/5): - Great customer service
- Nicolas (6/5): - The location is great, but the accomodations and specially the wifii could have been better.
- Adriana (6/5): - I booked a couple months in advance the listing said it had a microwave of course when we get there, there is no microwave and the listing has changed which is upsetting then there’s not enough parking so I parked on the street an got ticketed so that was fun. Not horrible but probably wouldn’t stay again.
- Sofia Fabiola (10/5): - Really nice place. Clean and friendly. And don't forget to buy tacos truck on the corner.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Overall good stay - Decent hotel in hollywood area. Old but updated. We checked in late and checked out in morning. Parking entrance/exit is narrow but parking spots are fine.
Good room size for double bed. Only downside was the stand-in shower which had no lip in the floor to prevent water flow to main bathroom area making the bathroom messy.
Overall good stay and would stay again here.
- Lovely-Ann (4/5): - They don’t have enough shampoo and soap, no mirror aside from the washroom, hair dryer didn’t work really well, room was ok
- Miguel (10/5): - Very clean and friendly
- cristina (2/5): - Husband and I stayed here for about 12ish due to its cleanliness. It was dirty, hair on the blankets and in the bathrooms. Roaches in the bathroom and just not what any of the positive reviews said. Will never stay again. Motel 6 is better then any of these small motels
- Ivette (4/5): - Hotel was disgusting with a very strong curry stench. My room was not cleaned properly. Bathroom was gross. I had to clean and disinfect it myself. An awful fight broke out in the middle of the night with a woman screaming for her life. I just didn’t feel safe. Drug addicts in front of the hotel too. The staff was nice specifically Patrick.
- Sara (10/5): Perfect for our two nights. - There was a little glitch in our reservation when we added a night after our original booking, but they were able to accommodate us without argument despite being at full capacity. It was clean and convenient to our concert destinations. And it's hard to find free parking in LA in a safe, back lot with direct access to the rooms.
We'll likely book there again.
- Journey38593910061 (8/5): Good experience in Hollywood - The room is spacious with table and refrigerator. TV has lots of channels. Location is great! Shops, metro and buses are closeby. Staff are friendly. Felt safe staying in the hotel.
Down side is that the bathroom is quite old, but basic like shampoo and soaps were provided.
- John (6/5): - Walls were thin and my neighbours played loud TV at 2am.
Ruin smelled of ammonia
- Andre (4/5): - too narrow parking space
- Micah (6/5): - One of the more affordable hotel options in Hollywood area. Nothing fancy, just a place to sleep at night.
Property: Old two-story building with refurbished individual rooms (e.g. floors, bathroom tile, furniture). Smells faintly of curry (didn’t notice after 5 min). Stairs, no elevator.
Parking: Tight alleyway entrance/exit behind the hotel with about 8 parking spots. My rental Ford Bronco was able to park there both nights of my stay. Nearby street parking rarely available.
Room: Lighting was 2 dim fluorescents overhead, no lamps. Extra firm bed with 3 pillows, headboard w/ side tables, small table and chairs, mini fridge (made noise), benches for luggage, TV (I never used). Windows w/ wooden blinds, no curtains/drapes, view of a wall, and I needed sleep mask at night. Bathroom w/ hairdryer, towels, soap bar, packets of shampoo and conditioner, toilet and shower. Lighting was a bit better. Shower head bound with electrical tape, water pressure was low-ish with decent hot water. Some noise heard between rooms, I listened to ambient noise with my phone at night for sleep.
Service: First call to hotel was met with someone (she/her?) that was abrupt/short and unhelpful with their answers. I inquired about possibility of early check-in, and they replied “No.” I asked where parking was because the entrance is not clearly visible from street, and they said “It’s in the back.” However, the person that checked me in (he/him?) smiled, communicated friendly, and was helpful.
- Karen (6/5): - There was a serious disinfectant odor in our room that was almost unbearable. I would recommend less chemical. It was however, quiet and conveniently close to target!! So that was a win!
- Abraka (10/5): - I like the fact that it was in proximity of everything. Shopping, dining, entertainment, adult entertainment and the area seems safe. I'd definitely stay again. What i didn't like was parking. Very small parking lot. Everything else is ok. A larger TV would be 👍 👌.
- Jonathan (6/5): - Limited onsite parking. Room very basic but clean. Just not a great vibe.
- Yadira (10/5): - Very good option to stay, super central and very friendly service
- Michael (8/5): - Close to the places I needed to go.
- Christopher (10/5): - Alwas stay here, no issues
- philsL940PH (8/5): G9od place to stay - Don't let the look of the outside put you off the room was big and clean plenty of room for the 4 of us
parking out the back was good but does have a tight driveway
great place to stay for the price walking distance to plenty of food options
Only down side was there is no in room safe
- Ana Carolina (10/5): - A hospedagem é simples, mas limpa e confortável. Funcionários atenciosos. Nada a reclamar.
- ricaurte (10/5): - Everything perfect
- Gloria (8/5): - N/a
- suzannek401 (10/5): Recommended - Very close to public transportation, and to entertainment, food, stores, next to a Walgreens and a Target near by.
Room very large and quiet, TV, fridge, hair dryer, desk. Area is very close to the metro and buses. Easy to get to using public transportation.
- Steve (10/5): Don't judge a book by its cover - Hidden Gem - I have been coming to The Hollywood Star Inn about 3 to 4 times a year for the past 10 years. It was a bit rough in those early days, but I have to say, it has become a hidden gem. It's been remodeled, nothing fancy mind you, but a comfortable mattress, AC that works, and spotlessly clean, the bathroom impeccable, free parking and good security. It you are looking for a place to stay and don't want to spend a fortune, this is a great option!
- Yajaira (10/5): - Very clean building and pretty big rooms. T.V. With cable and the apps. Very close to public transportation including the Metro train and public buses. Easy to locate different places to eat. Room was very nice, large, quiet, and clean clean clean. Area was a little sketchy but not "dangerous" by any mean. I meant you get to see homeless people around the area (where don't you see this around the big cities in the U.S.) , but no one interrupts your walk or any of your business.
Check-in was smooth and so was the check out.
Yes, I would stay again in here.
- ROSA (6/5): - Hotel was convenient for the location we needed to be at. Room was clean but very strong smell of smoke.overall place is old and back door wasn’t closing right.
- Jason (8/5): - Budget motel that is good
- Vikas (10/5): - Good
- Miles (10/5): - Not the NICEST, but definitely the best hotel when it comes to location and comfort. Definitely recommend staying as it is in the center of everything in LA
- Daniel (10/5): Excellent - Always the best customer service. Very attentive. Thank you so much.
- Ana (6/5): Good staff but no parking - Location is good, it's near the metro, and can be walkable to Hollywood tourist area but not safe to walk around. Staff are friendly but very limited parking
- David (10/5): - Had a great stay, parking down an ally behind building so we felt like our cars were safe especially in such a popular area. staff was great.
- mrdarcy67 (8/5): Hollywood star great location and value. - The room size was excellent, the decor was a little plain a few wall hangings and improved lighting would help. Beds comfortable and room well serviced. Free coffee at the reception hatch available early morning.Previous reviews mentioned homeless people in the area, sadly it’s the state of LA everywhere. Access to the Metro is easy just one block away $1.75 per trip never felt unsafe using it we even rode it to the Airport without incident. Farmer boys and Norms restaurants by the metro for breakfast ,good value and excellent. Strongly avoid the temptation to visit Kings Chinese buffet, I’m not a daddy eater but this was vile and extremely expensive for what’s on offer.
- Daniel (10/5): Excellent - From everyone to everything was great!
- david (8/5): - The place was clean. Close to eating places & a Target for everything.
My door on occasion did not fully click closed, so be sure yours does.
- Margaret Mary (8/5): - Cute little joint no frills but for a place to lay your head for the night wasn’t too bad. Friendly husband and wife owner.
- Ricardo (10/5): - The location is perfectly pleasant for shopping and local dining options are available for guests. There is The Comedy Store and Laugh Factory always having unique experiences by the time the show is finished.
- Ryan (10/5): 205 - I actually really enjoyed the location and the local vibe. Room was huge.nicely furnished.only 2 complaints.bed was big .just very hard.and the other was room had bathtub just no stopper.no way to use it.was so looking forward to.other than that it was nicer than expected.
- Michelle (6/5): - Lovely staff
- Andrew (10/5): - Good hotel for the price.
- Fred (8/5): - Quiet. Courteous servic
- David (6/5): - On the plus side, the room was spacious and clean, although basic, and the staff was nice. It was also a convenient six or seven-minute walk from the Hollywood/Western subway station. The room needed to better illuminated, as its only lighting came from two dim ceiling fixtures. The illumination could be much improved by the addition of a floor lamp, as well as bedside lamps on either side of the bed. The gentleman at reception kind enough to lend us one bedside lamp.
- Donna (8/5): - Served our needs. We were in town for one night before a Route 66 trip. There’s a small parking lot out back, which was extra convenient. We had a late check-in (after lobby door locked) due to flight timing, and staff was there to let us in. No frills, but that’s just what we wanted and expected.
- Christopher (10/5): - All good
- Joanne (6/5): - N/A
- greent566 (8/5): Hollywood has a very extreme homeless population, trash is everywhere, and it smells like urine all the time outside. - It was a nice! I was skeptical to stay at first but the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The man that runs the place was super nice and informative about the city and where to go and where not to go. Everyone was very inviting. I don't like the fact that the front door closes at 10pm and you have to walk around the back of the building to get in. However, I can understand why they do that. Hollywood and a less glamorous city in person vs what you see on TV.
- Georgia (10/5): - Safe, quiet and convenient.
- Ricardo Andres (2/5): - We spent only one night out of four due the extremely poor conditions and they refunded only two rather than three. From the moment we entered, we met people in bad conditions. The room was tidy but with few amenities. The heating system was really noisy. The bedspread had holes and to thin. The bathroom was marked with cigarettes burn on walls and sink. The next morning ther was a cockroach in the shower. You could hear the conversation of the other rooms and smoke. The smell was unbearable.
- Lee (8/5): - Stayed for two nights there because of theIt was clean
- Sravani (2/5): My feedback - TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE - Worst experience ever
- Adrien (10/5): - Overall nice experience
- Raymond (10/5): - front office was super friendly and acclimated us perfectly
Parking is very minimal but we ended up finding one or plenty of street parking but it’s LA so don’t keep anything valuable
- Kim Lye (8/5): - Located about 8 minutes of slow walk from Hollywood Western Metro Station. Other than the metro station, i do not see any homeless people hanging around, as some of the reviews have claimed, so i felt safe during my stay.
Basic hotel that meets my needs. Room is clean and the TV has a wide selection of channels, including HBO.
Overall, for the price, this hotel is a good deal, clean and conveniently located near the metro.
- Giuseppe (4/5): - Room smell was awful. Outdated bathroom. Very uncomfortable bed and flat pillows
- 240wesn (10/5): Good Night's sleep in a busy part of town!!! - Great!! Need Coffee maker and Microwave in the rooms,though...
clean rooms and have stayed here before...nice price..maybe brighter lights as well
Close to a ton of stuff that we were visiting!! we will be back and make
sure to get microwaves in the rooms....
Thanks
- 751rexl (6/5): Not bad for the location needs more to be really good. - The location is exceptional. The rooms are clean, however I would recommend that the light lighting be better. A full length mirror be added. The room is took dark and I feel could be slightly upgraded with just a few bare essentials. Also more pillows.
- Francisco (6/5): - Room was huge. It smelled of cleaning products though and there were no lamps at the bedside so you had to turn off the light and make your way to the bed in the dark. (I used my cellphone for light though, lol). For the price it was comfortable, had a TV, refrigerator (wish there were a microwave - it had none). It was secure, and had a nice hot shower. No frills and thrills. Got the job done.
- H5312BOmariot (10/5): enjoyed our stay - Mattress was super stiff and the bedding low quality but the room was clean and the employees are friendly. Parking is convenient. Great location, could use a little refresh or makeover. Added fridge is a nice touch, microwave would be nice too.
- Deissy (10/5): - Poner aunque sea un sofa extra.. o sillas mas comodas
- Jacqueline (8/5): - The room was clean and the bed was fairly comfortable. It was difficult to find parking so we had to park on the street. The room door and hallway carpet was very old and dirty and the door was hung crooked which didn't feel very safe.
- Peerapan (6/5): - It’s a ok place to stay in Hollywood. Staff was nice and helpful, but no facial tissue in the room , coffee machine has no coffee, only hot water available.
- ANDREW (10/5): - Budget hotel was perfect for our needs, close enough to enjoy many kinds of foods in a short work. close to the hollywood walk of fame. We had friends staying at a fancy hotel to the West and we had less issues than them.
Construction and traffic noise can be an annoyance for the 1-3 rooms closest to the front. We were the 2nd room upstairs and traffic never woke us up.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Regretfully, the area has gotten worse since 25 years ago, despite the motel's cleanliness and competent management. Unclean sidewalks and a large number of homeless people, especially in the metro area. The neighborhood is filthy and horrible 👎. I hope the council will take a close look at it.
- Glenn (8/5): - Stayed here several times ...great budget hotel great location as well ...staff is always fantastic
- Hom (8/5): - The back door lock is broken. People can easily get into the hotel without authorization. Felt not safe but the overall experience is ok.
- Lisbeth (10/5): - I payed under 120 for this room it wasn’t the newest but it was good nice and clean the customer service was great. they let us check in early and we had no problem coming back very late ( we were staying there cuz we went to horror nights). Idk what his name was he might of been a maintenance man because we saw him speaking to house keeping but that man was very kind and helpful because of him I’m giving this inn 5 stars thankyou sir 😊
- Mariska (8/5): - Came here to spend the night after attending a concert nearby. We had a very smooth check in and the staff was very helpful and kind. Our hotel room was clean and we slept peacefully, but parking spaces are very limited. However, when we arrived there were many spots still left. Would plan to stay here again!
- Stanley (10/5): - Cheap accommodation for LA close to train station and hollywood. Ideal for those working with a budget.
- Joseph Maurice (10/5): - I had a very good stay at this hotel. It was no frills, but clean and in a great location. Staff was excellent. Very nice people and helpful. I highly recommend staying there.
- Gevorg (10/5): - Good place
- jacquelinerF8653MC (8/5): Excellent - Clean room, great customer service for a fair price working ac and refrigerator will definitely book again when I am in the area they also have a big target across the street and great tacos in a corner very convenient for late night cravings will definitely recommend and will be back
- Jo (8/5): - Good budget place to stay in LA. No frills but cheap and cheerful
- Max (6/5): - They say that they have a parking lot but they actually have it full all the times. I had to rent a sprking station 20 mins away from the hotel.
- Paul (10/5): - It was good
- Kristeena (6/5): - We liked our stay here, however the parking was small.
- Daniel F (6/5): - Nice room people friendly but the parking not good and it’s at ur own risk not the hotel they should just make only certain amount of people to stay however parking spaces they have is how many guest u can have
- Stanley (8/5): - Cheap accommodation and its only problem was being situated on a noisy street and noisy tenants were staying at the place the night I was there unfortunately.
- Verified traveler (4/5): The average cheap hotel - I parked outside half of the time cuz parking was full. Main door closed after hours making it inconvenient to go to back for entry. A/C so loud it woke me up every time it turned on. Sink flooded suddenly out of nothing. Refrigerator worked fine. I wish there was a microwave too. Comforter was ok but sheets could be better. Price was fair I guess
- Mantas (8/5): - The hotel was better than expected, especially for the price. The area is somewhat sketchy, so we were glad to find that parking was behind the building and not on the street. However, the amount of parking spots was limited compared to how many rooms there are. We were lucky to take the last parking spot on two of the three nights we stayed.
The receptionist was really kind and checking in went smoothly. The room was bigger than expected. We found a few stains on the sheets and the floor, but it wasn't terrible. The bathroom was clean and the toilet had some anti-tamper tape on it to prove that it had been cleaned. A hair dryer, some soap and shampoo was provided. The pole for the shower curtain had some cheap tape duct tape around the wall, most likely a cheap fix, but the shower itself was fine.
The room came with a mini fridge and a television with DirectTV, which worked great. The free WiFi required us to accept their terms once every day but worked quite well after that.
The hotel definitely had a few small issues but was more than serviceable. In fact we were surprised, considering the price, that the room was so spacious, came with all the amenities we needed and the issues that were there were so minimal.
The area is the biggest consideration - I'd be nervous going out late by myself. Luckily they have a guard and lock the front door at 10:30 pm, only letting those with keycards get inside.
Overall, we would definitely stay again if we were to return to Hollywood.
- Denise (10/5): - Clean rooms and comfy bed.
- Lindsey (6/5): - Staff was rude as my husband said how you doing brother to a worker and he said that’s now how you greet someone and started a fight like he was going to start a fight. For sure not the hotel or location I thought I was booking. This hotel is in the HOOD!
- Miaopei (4/5): - 一般
- Jasmine (6/5): - For the most part the hotel was what you paid for. I stayed with my 15 month old, sister and mom. We felt safe for the most part. We didn’t hear a lot of the street noise. We also didn’t have a problem with the parking but I felt like some people did. Staff was amazing they let us check in earlier than the 4pm check in time.
- Venture53995637287 (10/5): good location - the room was spacious and the hotel was close to everything! Me and my friend had a great time in la :) The staff were lovely and helpful! Rooms were cleaned and towels given. Also an amazing taco truck just down the road, with a target so was good on food.
- Dan (8/5): Decent Hollywood motel - Decent motel, decent rates, clean rooms , Good AC, front desk was very accommodating and offered some flexibility in the deposit amount which was appreciated, great walk area
- Murray (10/5): - Limited parking. Room was not well-lit. No ice. Convenient to Hollywood sites.
- Vashti (10/5): - The parking was limited and the drive way is very narrow
- Verified traveler (8/5): Just OK - Very basic and clean enought for the price.
Is a ok option for very short stays.
- kathrinnea (10/5): Loved our stay! - We stayed for one night, and we had zero issues. Check-in and check-out was efficient. Front desk staff was friendly. Security was the man! Felt like we knew him forever. Very welcoming and helpful as we had a late night event at The Academy. He made sure we got back into the building safely. We’ll be back.
- Justin (8/5): - I like the property. Nice people, safe rooms. Area is conveniently located. Will hear aome noise at night, wish it were cleaner outside. Remember that feeling on election day.
- Miguel (8/5): - The hotel is very convenient is very centric and there’s a lot to do around the hotel
