Guest Reviews
- Mohamed (2/5): - One of the most old and uncomfortable, dirty and unsafe hotel I have experienced
- Khadija (2/5): Horrible - Dirty and very old hotel, not even one star quality, more like a motel.
1. Poor quality. They have false positives reviews and old photos of there facilities and are poorly maintained and not updated in over 10 -15 years.
2. Photos of the hotel shown are at least 10-15 years old and the hotel currently looks nothing like the photos. Its dirty and poorly cleaned with stains everywhere, walls, bed sheets, pillows, furniture.
3. It is NOT a non-smoking hotel as listed. There is smoking everywhere and in common areas and we constantly have to smell cigarette smoke coming into our room.
4. NO breakfast buffet available or offered! Only a very poor and inedible cold meal for breakfast.
5. NO working WiFi. Only available in the Lobby and spotty.
6. NO Free airport shuttle available.
7. NO 4 restaurants and bar/lounge as listed. Only one outdoor roof top (in the heat) restaurant/bar that offers food/snacks after 6pm! No food all day long until dinner.
8. NO 3 coffee shops/cafes as listed!
9. Don't even have an iron for clothes.
10. Manager who is the only person that speaks English, refuses to help communication with us and the Arab speaking staff, causing much confusion and stress, then only for him to be rude and ignore us.
- KHALED (10/5): Pleasant stay - It was a pleasant stay ,the Staff specially the Reception were very hospitable and helpful ,made every thing easy and possible ...Thank you
- Verified traveler (4/5): Stay away - The hotel was run-down and dirty. It is possible that it was once a 3 star hotel but not anymore. Mold everywhere, the shower did not work and never had slower internet
- AHMAD (2/5): - Everything is absolutely terrible
- todd (8/5): Reasonable - King Hotel in Cairo is a very decent place, but nothing special.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Extremely dated hotel. It's not kept well. The only reason I booked there was the day trip I had early morning which started from King Hotel.
I have sent them a message to take advantage of the "free airport shuttle" - they didn't even bother to answer and obviously the shuttle was not there.
I had dinner on the rooftop which looked a bit better than the restaurant near the lobby but the food was awful.
Sadly I can't say anything good about this hotel
- Vicky (10/5): - Nice hotel in a quiet street, would have loved coffee making facilities, just woke up to 5am prayers (very moving) but now dying for a coffee. Breakfast is at 6.30 am.
- Magz (10/5): - Love the remodel!!! I always stay at the King when in Cairo.
- Victoria (6/5): Ticked the basics. - Clean and basic hotel in Cairo. Lovely rooftop bar which sells alcohol. Breakfast was also decent.
- laura07852018 (8/5): Would recommend - Nice hotel. Rooms are basic enough but adequate for what I needed. Breakfast was at a good standard so I was happy. Shower was excellent (im fussy on my showers) . Location was very good. Staff were lovely especially Mohammed at the front desk. He was exceptionally helpful. Not a luxury experience but that’s not what your paying for either. So I would recommend this hotel and I would return.
- Tommy3434 (10/5): Relaxing and engjoyable - All the staff was very friendly.
Breakfast was good and many choices
Room are okay not wow but very cealn and nice
Thay have wi fi .we really liked our stay and we like to visit Egypt one more time
And for sour king hotel
- Kane (10/5): King hotel Egypt - Great hotel to start off at our intrepid visit, got some good places to eat and local amenities aswell room was good aswell got for a hostel feel but private room and bathroom
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were fantastic very helpful and friendly.
- Candish444 (8/5): Great Budget Hotel! - I booked this hotel mainly cause it was the meeting point for a couple of intrepid day tours i booked (ie for convenience). Friendly and efficient check in after midnight. I used their free airport shuttle upon arrival very safe and reliable (only offered one way). Close to a metro station (tho i choose to use ubers like cad $2-5 wherever u need to go in downtown since the hotel is in dokki, giza). Looks like some floors are going thru renovations. Nice rooftop bar and decent breakfast. My room had a mini fridge, king bed and good AC. The only negatives i have to say is that the water pressure is light and wifi connection in the rooms is weak but are not deal breakers. Either u cant get on or u get kicked off alot. Overall great value for your dollars.
- Tasha (4/5): - Staff are scammers.
Hallways loud. Beds dirty with hair and stains.
- Johnwilmm (10/5): Great location excellent staff - Our stay at king hotel was really pleasant and so nice.all the staff from receptionists to sacurity .the room was quite and clean .breakfast was very nice
We liked and felt save at king hotel .do not forget to visit the roof top bar
- Corenefred (10/5): Vist again - It was nice stay
We hade double room in haigh floors
We hade wifi in the room it was okay
Good breakfast.very nice staff helpful
We really liked we like to vist king hotel again
Thanks for all king hotel staff
- Explorer1968 (2/5): Not a place to return to. - I got to see a couple of rooms at this hotel. The first room was ok. The bathroom was functional and the room was fine for a night. I saw other rooms where the bathrooms were disgusting. The hotel is not clean enough for my standards, which aren't that high for Egypt. The breakfast was edible, the staff were there, and the elevator works but has no door so it's a bit scary. The location is good as it's central but not noisy. Actually it was a quiet sleep. For very little more money you can certainly find a better place to stay.
- Anna_justen79 (10/5): lovely egyptian hotel - King Hotel is 3 star hotel located closer to the river Nile, closer to most of the places of interest in Cairo. The rooms are in good condition and everything works perfectly. Just as you expect out of a good hotel. There is nothing fancy about the hotel, serves decent food and staff are helpful.
- AMERELDEN (10/5): nice hotel - nice hotel
This is a great hotel in Cairo for guests looking for an affordable hotel in a great location. While the rooms aren't anything spectacular, they have functioning AC, clean sheets, and hot showers. The real gems of the King Hotel are its staff and its rooftop bar. The staff were all very accommodating and were willing to assist in any way.
- cabbageroller (2/5): Dreadful visit! - This hotel was booked for us as part of a small group at the start of our trip. What a terrible place to stay! We had bathtubs with mold, upon mold. The hotel is just a drab and hateful place. When the food made me sick,(fish was not properly cooked), I asked for more toilet paper. Instead I was asked why I needed more and how many people were staying in our room! When I saw a bug in my bed the guy at the front desk yelled at me, took me back up to the room, turned over the mattresses and screamed that there were no bugs in their hotel. Wow! I would never suggest booking a stay here.
- Yoshi-NY (2/5): - Air conditioner made big noise all nightlong because upstair’s air conditioner dropped water from midnight to morning. I’ve already unpacked and in the bed and needed to wake up at 5am so I could not change the room
Room no was 703. That was terrible.
- Maleeah92 (8/5): Excellent Customer Service - Stayed here as part of the Intrepid tour. It is what you’d expect for a 3 star hotel, however, what made it more pleasant was the customer service. Reception immediately knew my name as soon as I came through the door and they gave us a late checkout as our flight wasn’t until 6pm. They had all the basic necessities there. Location is great too. The rooftop bar is beautiful! Only problem I would say is the small shower - other than that, I enjoyed my stay here.
- RobertS205121 (8/5): Good budget hotel - I had a nice stay here while travelling with Intrepid, and stayed an extra night beforehand. The hotel is well-located with good amenities nearby. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean with a comfortable bed.
Negative reviews on here are too harsh. The lift was fine. If you're looking for a budget hotel that has comfort with value for money, as an experienced traveller I'd definitely recommend here.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Some pugs in the room no refrigerator in the room no internet
- kpgreynomads (8/5): Good stay here the staff are the best - We stayed two extra nights before Intrepid trip. It’s a basic hotel but adequate. The staff are great. It’s in a good posiition for walking and using metro . Supermarket and booze shop nearby. We were greeted warmly by all Egyptians . Breakfast first morning was not so good but it improved. Rooftop bar big bonus . Would stay again .
- AprilB781 (8/5): It’s Egypt - I stayed here as part of an Intrepid trip both in a renovated and un renovated room. I don’t think it was as bad as the reviews on here make it out to be. The beds/linen are clean, and that’s the main thing I’m concerned about in a hotel. I felt the rooms were clean (surfaces, floors, etc), though a bit dark. The older rooms showers DO have mold and need to be ripped out, but this is the norm in Egypt. I actually found it charming, especially when we returned to Cairo at the end of the tour. Just shrug it off and take it all in.
My tour mates and I agreed that this hotel has a lot of charming quirks. The elevator is fun to stand on and see in between the floors/ceilings, and jerks around a bit. The decor is classic in the common lobby areas, but gets interesting on the room floors and leading up to the rooftop bar. Staff is pleasant, especially the guys at the rooftop bar. Overall a comfortable base in Cairo.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - They have no record of my booking. Fortunately they had a room. I believe that my credit card was charged but they also have no record. The staff here are very nice and the room is clean
- 975martinj (4/5): Being renovated and needs it - Like most we started here for a night as part of a group tour.
The room feel like the floor is moving up and down.
There is great variability in the size of rooms and the bathroom can be tiny.
The shower head fell out of the holder.
The hotel is in a general state of disrepair.
The bar snacks are also variable. Friends orders french fries chips that were served cold.
The positives are the staff are helpful and they store luggage free for a week.
If you are on a tour and considering staying in Cairo an extra night look for an alternative.
- pussdeeb (6/5): Black moulds in bathroom wall. - We had 2 nights stayed , booked by Intrepid Travel Company.
Good buffet breakfast but you no drinking water provided.
Bed were clean but bathroom was awful.
Supermarket 2 minutes walk.
Friendly staff.
- 105brads (6/5): Start of Intrepid tour - Ok, so this hotel is no gem BUT I thought it was ok. The main point here is the convenience for the start of an Intrepid tour.
I stayed in an old room first and then when I returned to Cairo after the tour I was in a refurbished room. The refurbished room was much nicer, especially the bathroom which was a huge improvement.
I didn’t have any problems (like previous reviewers) with hot water.
The location is really good and the staff are awesome.
Hotel is currently going through a full refurbishment but as with all things in Egypt it’s taking a looong time :-) if you can, ask for a refurbished room on Level 8.
All in all to be honest, I probably wouldn’t stay here by choice but as the start point of the tour it was fine.
Great rooftop as well although having to pay (per hour) to play pool was a bit much.
- Janly (4/5): Skip it if you can - Stayed here one night as part of a group tour. The best thing about this hotel, as others have mentioned are the staff. Helpful at all times, polite and accommodating. The hotel is also in a good location easy walk to a few Cairo attractions. The worst is pretty much everything else. Rooms are worn, hot water is sometimes lacking, breakfast food not very good, noisy rooms, and on site construction made for an uncomfortable stay. Skip this hotel if at all possible.
- Regina (8/5): Good stay - Hotel has good breakfast. It’s located very close to main area. But is not close to main attractions. One of front desk guy is very nice and he’s always willing to help you. The bedroom doesn’t have heater.
- Takuma (8/5): - No wifi at all.
- sb243 (2/5): Forgot to pick us up from airport, had to pay taxi. Bathroom full of mould. - Forgot to pick us up from airport, had to pay taxi. Bathroom full of mould. I did read a previous review and hoped the problem with mould had been fixed, but as it turned out problem still exists. Checked with other travellers and some of their rooms also had lots of mould in bathroom. I understand that they are renovating, but rooms still need to be acceptable.
- Magz (8/5): - I stay at the King when in Cairo and it is a great hotel for the price and you cant beat the location.
This time they were working on renovations and it did get a little noisy in the mornings but I am looking forward to seeing the upgrades.
Keep up the good work!
- WATAQT (4/5): Start of Intrepid tour. Do not book by choice - I’m writing this review to assist those who are staying here in general, but also as part of the 8 day Classic Egypt Adventure Trip through Intrepid (or similar) where this hotel is the starting point. I know it’s long but we found the info available before we left to be a mix of what we needed but not enough,so am writing this to best prepare those who are used to Australian type standards.
The hotel is old, and 3 floors are in the middle of being renovated. The furniture old and run down, the bed squeaks, the mattress is hard, the aircon is an old wall rattler. The shower is tiny, no other words describe it. All this being said, we found it to be clean.
There are two sets of Wifi with different passwords. One for the lobby and one for the room. The first person behind reception I asked would not tell me, instead typing the password for the lobby in to my phone only.
A couple hours later there was another person on reception who was kind enough to write them both down for me. They worked but were extremely slow.
The rooftop bar was spacious, and we had some chicken strips which were nice. Most Importantly the beer was cold. The man who greeted us here was lovely and luckily for us after a full on day of seeing pyramids, we had a good group to kick back with before heading to station for sleeper train.
Breakfast was interesting. I had a couple of boiled eggs on a roll, and some eggplant which was ok. There was some other stuff I wasn’t sure what but didn’t have any serving spoons, so didn’t try.
There is a small market and chemist round the corner.
A few things, we had quarter roll of toilet paper when we got to our room which didn’t last long. Bring a roll of your own, even two for the rest of the trip.
Here’s a list of essentials for us so far:
Toilet roll
Pocket pack tissues
Hand sanitiser
Travel adapter for phone chargers etc
Sunscreen
Pillow case
Potentially even a sleeping sheet.
Earplugs (more than 1 pair for your whole trip)
Most of all, an open mind. This is a basic Trip, and you get what you pay for. Set your standards lower than what you are used to in Australia as we went through quite a few disappointments when it came to the accommodation options for this trip. This hotel is 2 Star maximum by Australian standards.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - In the middle of everything, easy walking distance to stores, breakfasts included-limited. Rooms need some maintaining, basics-bed-small shower stalls-lighting not great-doors not really secure-under some construction-elevator door gets stuck on tiled floor. staff polite-friendly but limited on understanding English language, however they try. Rooms & sheets clean, immediate attention to problems fixed when informed, internet accessable-wait staff efficient. No printer available for print outs from personal computer. Reservations for hotel room via internet did not reach hotel. Also exchange rate fixed at hotel even so bank's rates are much lower.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Not that good for its price and it was not clean, there was dead insects on my bed.!!
- Kristy (4/5): Not particularly nice - First and foremost, staff were great. Very helpful and accommodating.
I booked my room months in advance only to turn up and they had no reservation for me. Staff made phone calls, I showed my reservation email, which I had to forward in to someone else as proof and they gave me a room. The room was pretty awful. Mattress was thin, sheets had hair on them which made me think they hadn't been washed, at least properly, blanket was dirty, bathroom could be updated, fridge was so noisy I unplugged it and was genreally a noisy place. I wouldn't recommend, even if it's just an overnight stop between flights like mine was.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Arranged a hotel pickup and the driver did not show up at the airport. Upon check-in, staff was trying to imply that it was my fault because the driver claimed he was at the airport.
Management is deceptive above the "free" airport shuttle, claiming that you need 3 nights to get one. It should really be taken off orbitz as an amenity since I mostly chose this location for its shuttle/airport ride.
The room was quite dirty, with long chunks of hair under the sheets. The room left a lot to be desired in terms of maintenance, as the ac was falling apart and the toilet was not functional. Not worth the money I paid, and the room did not look at all like the photos.
- Linda (8/5): I recommend and I'd return to stay again! - Great service and walking area. Decent breakfast and accommodating.I recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel downtown - A nice hotel downtown. Service in hotel was berg good. The roof top bar mostly was out of wines, however beer was available.
The neighborhood dogs barked off and on all night. Seemed to sleep most of the day.
The facility was fine, except most of the electrical outlets were worn out and would not charge.
- Alvin (8/5): Nice hotel close to the real Cairo costumes - Excellent experience!!! One of the most greatest must-see worldwide places anybody shall go. The king Hotel is one of the best place because it's location and multiple avenue. Their staffs are so friendly, and very humble, willing to help you all the time. The breakfast buffet it's a tasty Arabic meals, and the koshary serve at nights its delicious as well. During my book tours, I was lucky a group cancelled, so Ms. Aline was my tour guide for 5 hours. The ticket for going inside the pyramid is not included ($200 Egypt pound-$13 US dollars), so make sure you buy it before get in. The experience inside the pyramid is amazing, but creepy. You will see people screaming and suffocate for the lack of oxygen sensation, just be calm and cross thru the tunnel for 12 minutes. Don not do it if you are CLAUSTROPHOBIC!, I mean it, it looks like you are buried alieved. The next part of excursion was a close show to pyramids, but I pay ($800 Egypt pound- $56 US) to Shamar (the owner of camels). Come on this is an unique experience and paying this for a 45 minutes ridding on a camel and taking a high quality picture, will worth the price. If you bargain souvenirs for ($15-20 dollars) , you may have 10-12 small different types of souvenirs and magnet as well. I was so tired by the time I came back to hotel , but ridding a camel and going inside the pyramids are the BEST Wonderful done so far in this Egypt tour! Good blessings, and enjoy your life at full!
- Andrea (10/5): - Internet access is only in the lobby. I am OK with this but wish it could handle more traffic. This would not prevent me from staying again, though. Everyone on staff is friendly and willing to help. Almost everyone speaks some English (those at the front desk are fluent), so I didn't have any problems with communication.
- Ótimo custo benefício (diárias a 30USD).
Position centrale a Dokki.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It is near Dokki metro station. By walk, it takes 5 minutes. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO that this hotel does not provides free shuttle bus service from the airport. You may get a taxi from the airport and ask the driver to PUT THE METER ON. It will start from 3.00 L.E (Egyptian pound) only. It will cost 40 to 50 L.E. (26km) in total. The price from the airport star alliance service without putting the meter is not reasonable at all. It will cost you 200 L.E. or more to reach the downtown. If the driver does not want to put the meter on, please find the next one to try.
The hotel itself provides only free wifi in the lobby. There is no wifi in your room. No shampoo, no dryer, no slippers, etc. Please prepare as much as you need. As it is a 3-star hotel, the price is reasonable and friendly from Expedia.
The breakfast provided by the hotel is not fresh at all. But you can buy food and drink, and almost all you need for traveling from a supermarket nearby. Just turn right and turn left from the hotel door, you will find a supermarket with green sign on your right side. It only takes 1 minute from the hotel itself.
- Luke (2/5): Awful - Terrible location
Terrible staff
Terrible Air Con in a dessert city
Cafe short changes and served bad food.
Neighborhood is dangerous
- Shaj (8/5): Good value, would go again - I liked King Hotel Cairo. The staff were friendly, the rooms were adequate, there was an in-room AC, tv, and frig, and the prices were right. They also helped me book a tour, though I'm sure they became a profit middle-man in the process. What I didn't like was that the floor of my room was filthy with dust, no wi-fi in the room, smoking allowed in the lobby where there is wi-fi (but that's all of Egypt - death by 2nd hand smoke), and they didn't clean my room or make my bed or change my towels once during my 3 day stay. I have no idea why. Despite all that, I would go again.
- Patrick (8/5): Nice Place in Cairo - Nice hotel, great rooftop bar, and in a good neighborhood. Lots of restaurants and activity going on, but nice and quiet in the hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Welcoming - Off a main drag, this spot was convenient for getting a taxi to the pyramids or a short walk to a metro station. The staff was friendly and it had the basics for a good price.

- Mahatma (6/5): There's a rat in my kitchen, what I'm gonna do - Title explains it all I would believe....
One morning at breakfast my mate broke his jaw, since he was seeing a 10 inch rat coming out of the kitchen... The solution from the hotel, just put some wood in the cornerhole where he came from, that will keep him out....
- TravellingTheWorld (8/5): Great place to stay in Cairo while on a budget - I debated long and hard before selecting a hotel to stay in while visiting Cairo. I had originally planned to stay with friends, but the timing was off, so I had to fit a hotel into my three-country travel budget. I wanted inexpensive, safe, and decent. The King Hotel was a great fit. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, which helped me get much-needed sleep.
I arrived very late, in the middle of the night, after a flight delay. When I arrived, the desk clerk asked if I had taken the wrong bag from the airport. I checked, and, to my extreme embarrassment, I had. The real owner had already called the hotel (thanks to my location notation on my entry card) and the clerk put me in contact with her. The clerk arranged for a trusted driver (in the middle of the night) who delivered the bag to her, costing me just $6. I had no bag, and the hotel helped me with necessities for the night.
Problems at the airport the next day precluded me from getting my bag, so I opted to head to Alexandria early for a visit with friends. The hotel kindly adjusted my stay-time. When I came back three days later, I stayed there again.
The hotel is off the main path, but I had a driver with car, so that was of no consequence. The breakfasts were fine and typical Egyptian-style - I never left hungry. I reserved a three-bed, then a two-bed room. The cost difference was small, and I liked having the extra space. Everything was clean, the water was hot, and there were enough outlets for electronics. The weather was moderate, so I didn't need heat or air conditioning.
The first night I had a decent mattress, but during the second stay my mattress was too thin, even with one piled on top of the other. When I mentioned that when I check-out, they asked me why I hadn't told them, as they would have found me a better one. I believed them.
One regret - I never made it up to the roof restaurant, as I was not there when it was open.
I really appreciated the help and effort put forth by the staff, and will stay here again on my next visit.
If you are used to staying in American-comfort type hotels, the King Hotel will be too bare-boned for you. But if you travel to see and do things (rather than cocooning in your hotel), and appreciate inexpensive hotel value, safety, and a caring staff, I whole-heartedly recommend the King Hotel.
