Guest Reviews
- Alejandra (6/5): - We chose it for convenience and location and it delivered that way. But it is a 2 star hotel so we were mindful of that… we opened the balcony door and a cockroach went in our room… while chasing it to kill it we moved the beds/ and notice how stained the mattress was and the wood panels on the box ( base) were broke in some areas making the mattress sink a bit. The furniture is very dated and cheap but the linens were very clean as was the room.
- Garry (4/5): - Convenient but cleanliness an issue
- Carlos Giovanny (10/5): - Very easy to get around Florence walking or using public transportation. The front desk person was so nice and he help us with our bags and took that extra mile for us to feel at home very nice experience
- Ronnie (10/5): - Perfect location, perfect host, perfect stay.
- B9039LFmohammeda (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE – A Scam Disguised as a Hotel - DO NOT STAY HERE – A Scam Disguised as a Hotel
To Picolo “Management”: Here’s the review you goaded me into writing after humiliating me in front of my family. You mocked us and dared us to speak up—so here it is. I write this not with malice, but with full clarity and purpose: to warn others to avoid this disgraceful, predatory operation you call a hotel.
This was hands-down one of the worst travel experiences I’ve ever had. This isn’t just a bad hotel—it’s a calculated trap, designed to bait budget-conscious travelers and then bleed them dry while offering the bare minimum (if that).
Where to begin?
Heating and AC are completely broken. You’ll either be sweating like you’re in a sauna or shivering yourself sick—like my father, who caught a cold from the freezing conditions.
Hot water? A lie. There’s a pathetic sign claiming it takes 5-10 minutes to heat up. Spoiler: it doesn’t. Ever.
WiFi is useless. Constantly dropping and reconnecting—if you’re lucky enough to connect at all.
Beds are rock-hard. The rooms are outdated, neglected, and falling apart.
Daily cleaning? Another lie. Not once during our stay was the room cleaned, despite being promised otherwise.
You’ll be lucky if you even see a staff member. According to their website, reception is "always available." In reality, there's a line of confused, defeated guests standing at an empty front desk, waiting for someone who never shows up. If you need help, forget it—phone numbers go unanswered, aren't on WhatsApp, and emails get ignored. You're completely on your own.
The atmosphere here is outright hostile. Want to use the microwave? Sit in the kitchen? Grab a coffee after 5 PM? Be prepared for a barrage of passive-aggressive signs threatening you like you’re breaking the law. Surveillance cameras are everywhere—not for safety, but to catch and punish guests for using basic amenities.
And don’t fall for the “cheap rates”—that’s the bait. After you book, you’ll get flooded with messages demanding extra payments under bogus deadlines. I was even charged multiple times for the same booking under the guise of “confirmation.” It’s not hospitality—it’s harassment.
Late check-in? Another scam. You’re rerouted to a separate location five minutes away, where a man named Nandu tries to squeeze even more cash out of you. It felt shady and unsafe from the start. And don’t expect a smooth entrance—the front door barely works, leaving you fumbling in a dark alley just to get in.
Final word: This place isn’t just a bad hotel—it’s an embarrassment. A hostile, dishonest, rundown dump run by people who clearly resent their own guests. Avoid this place like the plague. Pay a little more and stay somewhere that doesn’t treat customers like criminals or walking ATMs.
You’ve been warned.
- Nicholas (10/5): - Everyone there was super friendly and helpful. I would stay again definitely
- jayverg (4/5): Nice location and friendly service. Needs loads of improvements. - Very simple hotel, with a lot to be improved.
The location is great, very central and a few blocks away from the main train station, and also the important sights in Florence.
Staff is friendly and helpful, always smiling.
The room is not very isolated, the air conditioning does not work, and the heating is switched off.
There's no one at the reception during the night.
Shower over head does not have enough pressure and does not work. You'll have to use the detachable shower, but gladly you can hang it.
TV is very small.
No fridge in rooms.
Pillows are very small.
Reception and rooms are on the 1st floor, so one flight of stairs is necessary to be climbed.
Flushing only works again after maybe 10/15 mins.
- H1048MQjackieb (2/5): Quadruple room - Horrible hotel. Filthy entrance. Bare stone staircase followed by another wooden one. Dingy reception upstairs. City tax added €5 pp per night although this was supposed to be already included in booking but had to pay it again. Beds were camp beds, not like picture. Walls damp and air-conditioning was leaking with towels soaking up water. Only positive was good shower and location. Hotel itself Horrible and way too expensive for what it was. Anything would be better. Do not stay here.
- poncik0 (6/5): Good location in the city centre - Nice compromise if you don't want to spend much money but at the some time enjoying to be right in the heart of Florence.
The stairs to get to the rooms are really narrow and uncomfortable, especially if you have big luggage.
The surrounding is silent and the room equipped with AC. The bathroom is pretty small but still ok.
- EAULD (4/5): Adequate but old, unhelpful staff. - Took up to 5 minutes between toilet flushes. We had a lot of confusion about beds, expecting 3 separate beds. They were only helpful after our group organizer arrived. One key per room. Room was dank upon arrival, had to ask for heat. Breakfast was fine, with hard boiled effort and salami as well as sweets. Location good.
- mtodorova1 (8/5): Nothing to complain about - Staff was very friendly the whole time. The location was good and we liked the breakfast (sweet stuff as usual in Italy). We left our luggage there after check out for free but bear in mind that there is no actual storage, all suitcases are left on reception so if nobody is there, anybody can open them.
- Alicia (10/5): MUY BUEN HOTEL - EL HOSPEDAJE ES SENCILLO PERO CUMPLE CON LAS COMODIDADES, SU PERSONAL ES MUY AMABLE , LA UBICACIÓN EXCELENTE
Preis/Leistung voll ok.
- aleksandraannar (2/5): Never stay there!! Bed bugs! You will get sick! - After first night there I was bitten all over my body. First I thought it was mosquitos but later turned out it was bed bugs. I had 50 bites just on one hand. I had to go to doctor and spent 25 euros for medications. I had to take antibiotics for a week. I looked like a diseaster. I coulnd't stop myself from scratching and now Im gonna have scars for probably at least one year. My friend had worse because the bed bugs traveled with her to her home and she had to spend around 120 euros for disinfection of her apartment.
We wrote complaint to the hotel and they didnt even replay. The perfectly know about the problem and they don't do nothing about it.
They pretend to be nice but the truth is that they are cheaters, never ever stay there.
- Angelo (8/5): Breve permanenza a Firenze.
- 351pascaleb (2/5): Neverrrr stay there - Rooms are not clean, very bad smell from the toilet , toilet in general(bowl, shower...) are old.
The linen on the bed are clean but the mattres are uncomfortable.
No Ac so u will wake up the next day with red skin from the mosquitos.
No elevator so it was so difficult for us to carry the luggage and the stroller.
When u enter u will feel directly how dirty this place is specially if u have baby.
- janicecooney (2/5): Don't stay here - I rented this hotel for my daughter for one night, June 2015. She rang the bell when arriving but no one answered the bell.
The hotel was loud, TV played in the lobby all night. The shower curtain was full of mold. They insisted she pay for breakfast, although the room was supposed to include breakfast for 2. She skipped this and ate somewhere else. When I contacted the hotel with my concerns I did not receive a response. My daughter was afraid to get into the bed and slept on top the bed for the night. I would not stay here.
- 815josephg (2/5): Really bad - We got this room through Hot Wire, so we did not know what the hotel was before we paid... and it was our worst hotel experience ever. The service was very poor and the breakfast more than disappointing, but the worst was our bedroom. 3 single beds : one uncomfortable, one very uncomfortable and one extremely uncomfortable. Plus, the drain of the shower was jammed, so the WHOLE floor in the bathroom was flooded everytime we shower. We complained but nothing was done. DO NOT GO THERE.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Three words: Stay somewhere else! This place was dirty, uncomfortable and hot.
- Nishant (4/5): wifi and beds were disappointing - The hotel is easy to get to as it is on a road that divides the city into 2 so it is convenient.
The wifi is only available in the lobby/dining area with no comfortable seating so it makes it not convenient.
The beds are 2 twin beds pushed together which were horrible. The Owner and his 2 daughters run the hotel and were very friendly and accommodated us for an additional night on the discounted rate that hotels.com had to offer.
For my wife and i the bed was a total turn off.
No encendía.
- Verified traveler (2/5): not the best in town - the location is good but staff is not helpful and a bit rude... the bathrooms are not good and the place has a bad smell...
- H.G. (4/5): Good location, but that's about it - We traveled by car and for a start we could not drive to the hotel, as it is in the inner traffic exclusion zone. Advised by staff we did finally enter the zone and unpack only to find out that parking the car cost 25 Euros per day, which added another 75 Euros to our two day/three night stay., I think this fact should be pointed out in the hotel's literature and advertising. Also the fact that air conditioning is an extra 5 Euros a day.
The staff on arrival was friendly. The rooms looked reasonably comfortable and clean however when we returned that evening there was a terrible smell of sewage in the room. Unbearable!
An additional cost was also incurred because breakfast was so horrible that it was best to go without and stop in cafes along the way. I know it is only 2 star, but I have stayed in many more pleasant hotels of the same rating. Sadly I cannot recommend this hotel.
- Nicole (6/5): It was alright - The location was great, a reasonable walk from the train station and the breakfast was good. However, the staff certainly do not go out of their way to help you. I am female and I was with a male friend. We are not lovers, so you can imagine our dismay when there was only one bed. We asked if we could get a room with two beds or have the bed spilt (the one king bed was formed by strapping together two twin beds) and the women replied that we should have notified them by email. We spilt the bed ourselves and my friend, being a gentleman, let me have the sheets.
- two alone (6/5): Convenient but not great. - Very convenient for Florence visitors.
Clean but basic.
We did not have an outside window - window opened onto a blank wall.
Bed was not comfortable.
Shower was cold when we got up a little later on our second day.
TV did not appear to work & there were no instructions for how to get it going.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A well-located reasonable budget choice. - Piccolo was typical of so many places we have stayed as budget travelers: Chosen mostly for location and cost, while having the necessary facilities (private bath.) Nothing fancy at all, but our only significant complaint is the sagging old bed. The included breakfast was basic but satisfactory. The staff was friendly. The location was excellent, convenient to the train station and the city sites. As usual, expect to carry your luggage up at least one flight of stairs. Overall, we were satisfied.
- Jack Leslie (8/5): Good value for the price - This hotel was perfect for our needs. The cost was very reasonable and we were able to save some money with the breakfast included in the price. I had hot tea and hardboiled eggs with bread and jam every morning. My husband liked the whole grain cereal. The food was not fancy but the little buffet was nicely presented. The coffee came from a machine that allowed you to chose cappucino, hot chocolate, coffee, etc. Since I love my "real" coffee ground from beans every morning at home, I simply switched to hot tea and got coffee at the nearby coffeeshop as we walked to downtown Florence. My husband thought the coffee was just fine.
The hotel is on the second floor (no elevator). The staff was very friendly and helpful. They told us the front desk closed early evening but gave us keys to the street entrance door. We had an early morning flight out of Florence and the staff called called us a taxi to pick us up at 5:30 A.M. We made arrangements for this the day before. We locked our keys in the room on departure day and made it to the airport in plenty of time. The room was clean. We had a little sitting area and the bedroom and bathroom were a level 2 steps up. There was a wardrobe, desk and a chair in the sitting area. The wi-fi was fine.
We prefer to stay in 2 star hotels to save money and get a flavor for regular neighborhoods. This hotel wasn't fancy but it was clean, safe and quiet during sleeping hours (and most of the other times too)
- Verified traveler (8/5): a small hotel within walking distance of the train station - We asked for direction at the train station (please note that the tourism info center is no longer in the station but outside across the street at the Basilica, it's easy to find) and found this little old hotel without much trouble. You need to press button to get into and I assume the front desk is not 24 hours either. We stayed in room #1 and it was fine except that we need to pay attention to the step between living area and bedroom. Furnitures are old and TV set is hanging overhead. Breakfast is 5 Euro each but high speek internet is free.
The hotel is one block away from the main street that links almost all of the attractions. Florence is a small town and we don't need public transit at all. The problem is that museums are closed on Mondays so plan your stay accordingly.
- Amanda (8/5): Amanda - This hotel was very close to the center of Florence and perfect for our needs; although the view wasn't great, and it wasn't really a place we wanted to hang out, we really were paying for a place to sleep. The staff was very friendly and helpful, which was all you can ask for.
- Anonymous (4/5): CHARGED FOR AIR CONDITIONING - Hotel is in pretty good location. Did not know we would be charged for air conditioning. This was not mentioned on [...]. We were billed for it as we checked out. Breakfast was not very good.
- Graham (2/5): The Piccolo Hotel in Florence- value for money - The Piccolo hotel in Florence is located within walking distance of many of the sight-seeing areas. It provides clean and comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. You have to climb a flight of stairs to enter the hotel premises. The breakfast offers a good variety and is more than adequate. The staff were very friendly and helpful. For the tourist it gives good value for money.
- Anonymous (10/5): Excellent location & value, great hotel - The hotel was a fairly easy walk from the train station.
It's also within easy walking distance of a lot of the museums and other attractions.
The room was large and very nice. The bathroom was nice, but there was no surround around the shower and the toilet was next to the shower. When you showered, the toilet and the bathroom floor got wet. The bathroom floor was slippery.
The staff was very nice and helpful! The entire hotel was clean and well-kept.
- vin (8/5): would be happy to use again - for a basic hotel in central florence, i couldn't have expected more. good standard, would be happy to use again. only snag was i think a family of elephants live upstairs, you get that with some of these airy old buildings though.
- Verified traveler (8/5): a short walk but close to all the right places - As a former study abroad student I found this location to give me a taste of the florence natives, and their local drinking grounds all within walking distance to the san lorenzo market area. The walk each day is about 10 or so minutes, clean area, direct and not over crowded with people. The hotel has nice high ceilings, two floors, a simple but great european breakfast spread and just requires you let yourself in and out of the hotel after 7pm.
- Ben (2/5): Hotel Piccolo - Italian For "Terrible" - This hotel is terrible. The office is located on the second floor of a musty, dingy building. Although the staff was friendly, the room smelled and was uninviting. There was no decor and the bed was hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom was dirty and the shower simply drained into the floor. All this was bearable at first, but things got worse as our stayed progressed.
The maids did not furnish new towels unless asked and tipped, they simply hung up the old dirty ones. Worst of all, there were no bug screens, and the maids opened all the windows every day, allowing mosquitoes to enter and bite us all night. We ended up only staying two of the four nights because it was so miserable. We moved to the Hotel Medici across the street, which was amazing, not only by comparison but in general. That hotel is highly, highly recommended!
We learned the hard way that there is a big difference between two and three star hotels in Europe. If you are looking for hostel-like conditions this place is for you, but otherwise book elsewhere.
PS: Free WiFi, their one saving grace...
- Verified traveler (2/5): Piccolo Hotel florence - A tough place to get into and out-only one key to guests. Noisy, mosquitoes, hot, uncomfortable mattress. I have had many nights in a tent more comfortable than this room.
- Ernie (8/5): Good basic hotel - Good basic hotel. Clean and friendly. Excellent value. Convenient location. Would definately use again.
Unless things have changed, be aware that the hotel has very specific checking in times and if you arrive outside these hours you may have to pay for someone to await your arrival - ie make sure you can get to the hotel by 8pm.
- Richard (8/5): Overall An Okay Room - The hotel was very close to the train station and most sites of interest. The hotel is on the first floor and doesn't have an elevator. I had a very spacious room. The radiator didn't seem big enough to keep the room fully heated. It did meet my requirements of clean sheets and hot water.
- sincere (8/5): Piccolo, but not small :) - this hotel is a good place to stay. nice breakfast, good conditioned and garden viewed rooms, very close to the city center and most sigthseeings. everything except mosquitos were wonderful. (so; do not forget your body sprey for get-off the mosquitos :))
- Glen (8/5): Good hotel for price - OK room for money paid. Great location.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Hotel for the Money - This hotel was in a good location (within walking distance of Michealanglo's David and Pieta). However, if you are looking for a parking it probably won't work. Had to pay an extra 24 euros to park the car almost three blocks away, but the staff was helpful with that. It was a small room and the bathroom could have used some improvements but my wife and I only stayed for one night and basically just used the room to sleep in. The wireless internet was a plus and easy to use.
- Anonymous (8/5): A very very small hotel, which - A very very small hotel, which feels more like a big house. Staff very friendly. Close to the main square and within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and rail station.
