Guest Reviews
- Juan Carlos (5/5): Great location and friendly staff. - The Location The city tax. It was based on a 5 star hotel, so more expensive. But Eliseo felt more like a 4 or 3 star hotel.
- Catarina (1/5): BEDBUGS, BLOOD, HAIR ON THE PILLOW - Nothing was good. BEDBUGS!!
We are absolutely horrified by our experience at Hotel Eliseo in Rome. What was supposed to be a relaxing stay turned into one of the most disgusting and humiliating hotel experiences we have ever had.
From the very moment we arrived, we were met with shocking arrogance and complete disrespect from the man at reception. After arriving exhausted from a flight, we politely asked for water, and instead of offering basic hospitality, he barely even looked at us and coldly told us to go outside and buy some ourselves. This behaviour was unbelievably rude and unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one claiming to be 4 stars.
He then arrogantly informed us that our room was not ready and that we could only enter at 2 PM, forcing us to sit in the entrance hall in front of everyone after travelling. While waiting there, we immediately noticed a dead cockroach on the floor in the lobby. That alone should have been enough warning.
Then, only 10 minutes later, the same receptionist suddenly came back and said the room was actually ready after all. The lack of organisation was already alarming.
The moment we stepped into the corridor, we were hit with a terrible smell of mould and humidity. When we entered the room, we were genuinely in shock. We paid €742 for a room that was absolutely NOT worthy of a 4-star hotel. The room smelled awful. The bedsheets were dirty and covered in hair. The decoration was old, creepy and depressing, and the bathroom literally smelled like urine. Everything felt filthy and neglected.
We immediately complained at reception, and the man told us that perhaps at 2 PM they could move us to a suite “to apologise.” Shockingly, the suite was even worse.
There were BEDBUGS everywhere. The sheets had blood stains, pubic hair, strange marks and visible dirt. The entire room felt unhygienic and unsafe. The bathroom remained disgusting and clearly not cleaned properly.
- Francesco (5/5): -
- Iuliia (1/5): Impression is negative - The location is great The room stinks like somebody was smocking in it for many years, everything is really old. When I tried to boil a kettle in the room the lights went off.
- Giorgio (5/5): - Posizione ottima.
Rapporto qualità prezzo: buono x i livelli di Roma - arredamenti un po' vecchi, andrebbero modernizzati
- colazione insufficiente x un hotel "4 stelle"
- raffaello (3/5): Evitate - La posizione Camere fatiscenti e vecchie. Doccia inutilizzabile. Battiscopa staccato dal muro.
- Sonia (8/5): -

- ignazio (4/5): - La posizione Troppo vecchio
- Guido (2/5): Non aprite quella porta …. - Ottima posizione e personale gentile, cordiale e preparato.
- Dylan (2/5): Not worth the money but the location was good enough - Location were good, staff were friendly enough The room was very lacking. Bed that you could feel the springs - very hard and uncomfortable, mould in the shower, dust everywhere, shower would drift between ice cold, comfortable and scorching hot without changing the temperature.
- Cristian (8/5): -
- Mia Nordal (9/5): - Flot udsigt fra morgenmads stedet, god valuta for pengene
- Maria Eleni (10/5): Best Hotel in Rome - I recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful, making check-in smooth and stress-free.
The room was spotless, spacious, and beautifully designed, with a very comfortable bed that ensured a great night’s sleep. I especially appreciated the attention to detail, from the quality toiletries to the thoughtful amenities provided.
The hotel’s facilities were excellent, and everything was well-maintained. Breakfast was a highlight, offering a wide variety of fresh and delicious options to suit all tastes.
The location was also ideal, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, quality, and outstanding service. I would definitely stay here again. I liked everything
- elisa maria (5/5): - Solo posizione La struttura molto decadente. Arredamento da sostituire. illuminazione scadente. Doccia con soffione non utilizzabile. Le foto dell' hotel non sono veritiere.
(3/5): Bad memories of this hotel. Dislike it - Only the location is good. It’s too old, needs to refresh. The bathroom is too small and with a strange smell. And the shower is not stable. Too hot or too cold. I will never select this hotel before it redecoration.
- rocco (3/5): - La colazione è sufficiente e il personale è valido La pulizia
- luca (8/5): -
- E5982QDfrancescor (2/5): Outdated hotel, bad smell, poor maintenance and unacceptable staff behavior - Very poor experience. I stayed at this hotel for two nights and I strongly discourage anyone from choosing this property.
The hotel is clearly outdated and poorly maintained. The room had peeling wallpaper, an unpleasant smell, and a bathroom in unacceptable condition, including a leaking bidet. Even more concerning, the bed sheet cover was not changed for the entire duration of my stay, which is simply unacceptable for any hotel.
The room layout was also impractical: the internal window shutters could not be opened because the television was placed in front of them, completely blocking access. This reflects a lack of attention to comfort and functionality.
What made the experience even worse was the attitude of the reception staff. They were not welcoming, not inclined to listen, and showed very little attention to the customer. When a colleague of mine came to briefly meet me to discuss a work project, he was not allowed to enter the hotel. The staff even mentioned they would call the police, which felt completely disproportionate for a simple and common request. The conversation took place with raised voices and a rude, unprofessional tone.
Overall, the hotel is old, poorly maintained, and the service is far below expectations. Between the bad smell, lack of cleanliness, maintenance issues, and unprofessional staff, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I have had.
I would definitely not stay here again and strongly recommend choosing a different hotel.

- Sharon (6/5): The hotel could make a lot of money if they opened the bar even if only for a glass of wine a beer or a coffee - The location was good, clean and tidy. Staff helpful It could do with a bar. When you have been out for the day would be nice to sit in the beautiful lounge with a drink or a coffee
- Margaret (9/5): Brilliant location and friendly staff, handy for shops and restaurants. - The location is fantastic near lots of restaurants and the park. Reasonable walk to the city there is an underpass with escalators which saves time.
The staff were lovely very helpful.
The breakfast is great something for everyone. No bar but there is a nice seating area on the ground floor.
- rosepA4432TP (10/5): Loved it! - I loved Hotel Eliseo with its old world charm. I particularly liked the decor with the house plants and paintings.
The staff were very efficient and friendly especially Roger on reception and Marco in the dining room.
The room was lovely cosy and with everything you might need although we did bring English breakfast teabags from home. The bathroom is very long and thin but the shower was nice with glass doors not a plastic curtain that sticks to you.
The location is brilliant right next to Villa Borghese Gardens and a short walk away from the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. And there were plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby so we were spoilt for choice.
- Federico (9/5): -
- Lichfieldlady (8/5): Good location - Hotel is very dated but staff were friendly and helpful. Room was basic but clean with beds nicely made every day. Rooms were quiet. Breakfast was basic.
The location was brilliant though and we could easily walk everywhere we needed to go. Lots of restaurants nearby and you felt safe.
- clare (8/5): Friendly staff. - Good location to explore Rome. No bar.
- Franz Vladimir (10/5): -
- Margaret (9/5): We like the hotel it is in a great area, sheets etc changed every second day which was great. - The location is excellent, lots of good restaurants nearby and a reasonable walk to the Spanish steps. The breakfast was great, lovely views over the city and lovely croissants, rolls and cold meats . The staff on reception are lovely, very pleasant and helpful.
Hoping to be back next year. The shower cubicle was small and we had no view. No bar.

- Eriselda (8/5): - The breakfast was not good. The food didn’t taste fresh and the portions were small. It was not satisfying at all.

- Brunella (5/5): - Posizione ottima , personale gentile , prezzo contenuto . Scarsa pulizia del bagno e letti molto scomodi
- Simone (7/5): -
- Alejandro (4/5): This hotel need a makeover urgently - Good location Not very clean, hard pillows and bed, shower water goes switching between burning and freezing (very uncomfortable), hallway smelled like cigarettes for 7 days straight
- Corbo (8/5): -
- Zorica (6/5): - Location, nice little hotel, kind stuff Not good value for money
- Michele (9/5): -
- Falegnameria De Luca (10/5): -

- chrisjE731ML (2/5): Buyer Beware - Based on a great previous stay at this hotel we booked in February 2025 for another stay in July 2025. Unfortunately we had to cancel due to a surgery in June 2025 and advised the hotel of this by email well in advance of the one night before arrival cancellation policy. On checking our bank statement we noticed that the hotel had charged us for the first nights stay, contradicting their published policy. We called the hotel numerous times, emailed their administration department with screenshots of our booking/hotel cancellation policy Etc. and continued to call until last week (w/c 20.10.2025). During this call the hotel hung up and needless to say, we are still 184 Euros out of pocket. This property is part of the Leonardi Hotel group and we are hopeful that somebody from the group will read this and contact us. This review is just to make people aware that they are not honouring their published commitments and if your reservation plans change, we wish you the best of luck.
- Justyna (8/5): - Localisation, accueil.
- IrmaC86 (2/5): Do my trust the photos! - My sister made the reservations through Trip. com. All in order, confirmed & reconfirmed in emails. As soon as we entered the hotel, the front desk attendant greeted us by name & immediately informed us that our reservations had been cancelled by management at the last moment bc the hotel had booked a large group of 40 & needed our two rooms. We were unceremoniously bumped out. In fact, we were dismissed without further a do, without any apologies or satisfaction. Management ( Leonardo Group) had been able to secure us rooms in another hotel, Torino, & practically kicked us out! As courtesy, hotel management, would pay a taxi for us! . As for the lobby & surroundings, very shabby, old, crumbly, dead looking, wooden floors showing lack of maintenance, pieces missing, covered with old rugs & furniture that has seen better days… ugh! Obviously we never saw the rooms, but from photos posted, they look the same as the rooms in the hotel they put us up, Torino. Also old& shabby. After this total lack of professionalism & missing any trace of basic hospitality , I cannot recommend for anything this semi cockroach motel.

- 578jackieg (2/5): Not 4* - tired dirty hotel. Nothing's been spent on it for years - No way is this a 4* hotel. Went with a group - 4 nights Rome then transfer to Sorrento. Sorrento hotel also 4* and there was no comparison. Very dinghy, tired and dirty. Bed was clean and good location that's the positives. Furniture old, wallpaper peeling, paintwork needs good clean. Our shower ran hot and cold, not pleasant experience. Breakfast very minimal. Tea in room but not replenished. Ran out of coffee, asked at desk and old box brought out but no coffee to be found. Welcome meeting we were given crisps, etc, in our hands which were spooned from a dish. Asked if there was local supermarket and told few miles away - we found mini market one street over. There is a bar but it's not stocked so no drinks available. We will having words with our tour operator

- Janestreat (6/5): Basic but ok - Actually wasn't the hotel I booked I was moved, with no real explanation as to why. Hotel is very dated really could do with a bit of updating. Room was ok clean but has to have been the most uncomfortable bed ever it was like sleeping on a concrete block. Very central though was easy to walk to some of the main attractions.
- enrico (8/5): - Posizione spettacolare
- Gianfranco (8/5): -
- charissa (6/5): Old ambiance - Location is great! Near everything you would like to get to in Rome.
Room we got is dusty. They don't clean floors under the tables & chairs. I can only imagine under the bed. Our shower don't drain well, & there's a gap between the door shower, so the flooring gets wet when you use the shower. Staff are accommodating. When we asked for plugs, they lent us, including electric fan. The view up the breakfast floor is excellent. Food is great. I didn't mind the flaws, it comes with the age of the hotel. But a few changes will be better.
- robert (10/5): - Location, cleanliness, Shower didn’t drain well.

- Travels_fun_555 (8/5): Absolutely beautiful. Ignore all other bad reviews! Perfect location. - A wonderful stay, staff were very friendly and i felt completely safe. The rooms were cleaned daily, breakfast was plentiful, the breakfast hall is on the 6th floor and the view is incredible, you can have a city view with greenery. I read the reviews previously and felt little worried, but seems some people just complain about everything. Location was perfect, there was a mini fridge so i kept some beverages cold. The AC was not cold enough so i got a fan from the reception, it kept me completely cool during the nights, bare in mind i am not used to this heat and felt like fainting all the time. The beds were comfortable, i really liked the decor in the lobby. The bathroom was clean and the shower worked very well. The area around the hotel is well kept, I felt completely safe. My friend who is a local resident recomended this area as it was one of the best and safest areas. Ps excuse my rubbish photography skills, I wanted to leave a genuine review of my stay 🥰. Also there is a supermarket very close by called Todis Rione Colonna - Supermercato, only 5 minutes walk. Don't go to the small corner shots that charge 5 times the price! Over all my stay was a beautiful experience and I will return.
